The Stolen Seconds by Jogy34 2013-08-28T00:04:00
I had the same problem as everyone else - the player moves far too fast. Congrats on implementing random levels though!

I had the same problem as everyone else - the player moves far too fast. Congrats on implementing random levels though!
Gets very difficult to see what's going on out of view, but really good fun and a great concept! Well done!
Damn, do I just suck or is the car driving part just hard? Also, I'm not sure why I kept coming across cops but what the hell, it was a fun game!
I got D - I killed my brother! D:
Good start for a more detailed game! Keep working on it!
Really good work. The story was well thought out, and I liked the various deaths everyone had. The link to the theme was a bit weak but well implemented. All in all really good work!
Interesting concept, I enjoyed it! One thing that would have been nice was separate buttons for yes and no, instead of having to check which was selected before you pressed X everytime, especially since most were No.
Interesting concept, and it was so close to being a good implementation. Really good use of the theme though!
I'm really impressed with the amount of story, it was really long! Interesting use of the theme and the graphics were sublime!
@zatyka You can skip the scrolling! Just press space. I said something about it in one of the tutorial messages... I think.
@jwolf - there's a reset button too - R. That one I didn't explain, so that's on me.
Yeah, there are some bugs that need sorting out, and it should give consistent results and we were planning on adding abilities such as changing the positions of units while they march but didn't have time and we weren't sure how to implement it. Thanks for the reviews and ideas everyone!
Mazes are always a nice idea. It's a solid base for a game, even with a few simple extra mechanics it could be really fun.
Nice concept! It might work better if you didn't hit your head on the asteroids though, but I had fun
Neat little game. I really enjoyed the story, the art at the start was great! The game itself is really hard though, and could be helped by only restarting the current floor when you die. All in all impressive for only 8 hours.
Pretty damn interesting game, and I wish I had people to play it with!
Pretty damn good game, though as others have said a money count would be great. I wasn't very good at saving kittens though.
Fun, inventive little game. I'm going back to play more now!
Got a few of my friends playing it with me, it was great. The awkward controls... I know what you were going for, and it kind of works, but with a bit of tweaking I feel it could be both awkward but usable, if that makes sense.
Interesting concept, would be fun to play with someone and see what tactics you could come up with.
Pretty damn good game - it was fun finding the different unit's strengths and weaknesses, although at the end I just amassed heal bots and gun robots.
Nice, rated it a bit differently because it's not really a 'game' but it's really cool, and gets 5 for innovation!
Really enjoyable game, loved the sense of progression despite not knowing exactly where to go!
Very nice graphically. Great work overall!
Really creative and huge game world you've created. I'm really impressed!
That's some fun stuff. Hard, but fun. As others have said, a score timer would have been the final touch to make this a proper game, but it's fun nonetheless.
Not the most intuitive controls, but otherwise a nice challenge
Hm, had some visual issues with little black boxes around every sprite... Still, pretty game if I imagine they're not there and a neat idea! 5/5 for theme and innovation, and graphics because I feel like I'm so close to seeing something really pretty!
Nice game that could be so much fun if the collision detection was that little bit better and the seasonal effects were slightly more pronounced. Cool level design though.
Cool, movement seemed slow, although I'm being picky. Played all the way through and was impressed by the difficulty. Each colour had innovation and I loved the Megaman-inspired beat-boss-to-collect-weapon feel! Graphics were also very impressive, really liked the lighting!
Pretty good fun - seemed a bit slow, but I'm not sure there's much you could do to change that. Music sounded good!
Iffy controls but a cool little concept. Could be clearer what to do!
A pretty good game with a nice use of the theme! The difficulty was spot on, so well done with that. Jumping physics seemed a little jumpy but that could just be me. Great job!
Hilarious game. Great work with the dialogue options.
Cool, one thing you did really well was the feel of the character, lots of games made in the time limit understandably have poor control or are too slow or don't bother with jump height depending on the length of the press. So well done for doing well with that, we've avoided making platformers because we know we couldn't manage decent character control! Needs a different method for changing those colours, because as it stands you just have to wait for the right colours to appear. But sounds as if you've got some good ideas moving forward with developing it, good luck!
Some really cool lighting effects, and the ending is pretty cool even without any philosophy! Nice organic gameplay made this a fascinating entry, with the light being the clue to location and becoming difficult to spot when you're emitting more light. Very cool, but a shame that it isn't used (not that I could see anyway)in the final star, which was a ittle frustrating to find. But it's one of my favourite gameplay ideas so far!
Thanks for the suggestion Iiamere, we did have some discussion about pirates and weren't sure exactly how we ought to do them. As it is the idea is that you need to watch to see where the ship goes missing, then send a privateer to take out the pirate. Might not be especially balanced so possibly more frustrating than fun, thanks for feedback!
Good point, definitely needs to be clearer on a number of levels: Port creation, Privateer management, pirates maybe, etc. But glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Samuel, we did consider a number of your suggestions, haha. Thanks for all the feedback everyone! You're right DragonXVI, if we'd playtested properly we;d have found out that the nodes aren't very clear, and would have maybe made the path 'snap' to nodes easily.
commodoreKid - I'd love to keep working on this game, we had so many stretch goals we'd have loved to have put in if we'd had longer so we got lots of ideas!
Dr - we didn't have much time to balance, so it's not too hard! Good point about the menus. And you're right about ships going through ports - they can be used as waypoints, its only the end and start that matter!
Thanks Lars and markus (glad you liked the art, drop shadows make things much sexier!) You're right Lars, it all needed balancing, like to reduce the amount of money you get from Europe and to entice you to make trades with America, but glad you liked the foundation!
Thanks SK16!
Retro - I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean. When you make a trade route the distance and gold of that route does appear at your cursor position! Although maybe you're right that we didn't need the pop up, as the information about how much it will cost is already there.
Cool, could probably do with nicer controls, maybe just sending the asteroid in the direction the player is looking? However, nice original concept and good execution
Nice, cool character movement and I think your right that it needs something more, maybe another mechanic. I liked the concept though, and the graphics have a strong foundation for a compo entry; I could see them getting really good with some work because they have a nice feel about them.
One criticism is that unless I'm missing something then it isn't actually possible to get all the stars, since sometimes your characters happen to be crossing in the middle instead of at the top of a wave, which is frustrating, although increases the difficulty to a good level.
Oh! One thing I really liked was the score system and name input, which was great! I don't think it added much but somehow really helped my enjoyment. More games should have that feature!
Cool concept, well implemented although I'd add more clear indication of what's a wall and what isn't when in 2D. Overall really nice, especially for a compo entry!
Cool concept, feel like the levels should be smaller and maybe add more types of objects/enemies to add more variety and more interaction between worlds. Other thing I would do is just make it about 4x faster. Faster is funner! Nice little monster sprites and I liked the character too!
Interesting idea, quite tricky sometimes but overall good game!
Really enjoyed this entry, one of my favourites actually. Spent too much on boost so I couldn't reach the other planets in the late game, haha. Good job!
As others have said it's super hard by yourself, but it seems like it would be super fun with a second player!
Really funny and very different. I felt super chuffed with myself when I worked out the under pressure puzzle.
I did only realise you could press Space to shoot in the space levels after dying repeatedly. Oh well.
Nicely done! Personally I preferred playing without your description, figuring out the gameplay on my own after being linked to it by Rock Paper Shotgun (congrats!)
Ooh, manages to be more fun once you realise the severity of the punishment for clicking incorrectly, since you have to get every click correct
Really really nice graphics, and the shots coming from the side really added another 'dimension'! (I'll see myself out)
Some nice ideas, although isn't clear enough, or fun really. Difficult to even know where the enemy is. So maybe change up the gameplay. I love the idea of little ant-sized people running around into each other, with mini explosiosn and stuff, with upgrades with a simpler system where you can buy buildings and generate units from them instead perhaps. Either way, nice concept, should have been implemented better. I do really like the modelling though, has a nice colour scheme and is simplistic enough to be clear
Cool little thing with very nice effects! Love it.
Fun! I found it a little unclear how trade routes worked at first, but once I figured it out then building a little trade empire was cool!
Fun, inventive game - well done!
Loved the hamster but the gameplay was rather repetitive
Wow! As you can tell by all the comments, this is great fun!
First time I played through the number of invaders bugged out and I couldn't finish but the second time it worked fine
I couldn't seem to attack with rightclick or leftclick, not sure why but after I relaunched I couldn't seem to move or anything either. Keep at it though, if it's your first entry then you've got plenty of time to improve!
I really like that the bullets go through enemies, makes it much more tactical and fun! Not bad!
I really loved the graphics and animations, and everything else was very smooth and polished - would have been nice to be able to see quicker which world was active though.
Cool, far too big though and could have done with maybe an armour system or something, more loot's more fun! Good sense of humour though, I laughed multiple times, and the game works well!
I'd make it a bit complicated but it's a great foundation! And surprisingly engaging considering it's only text!
Could have some more depth I suppose, but it's technically very impressive! Possibly not clear enough that the aliens give you more lives, but crazy polished for the time limit, well done!
Awesome! Love the balance between relaxing and panicking! Took me a while to get it, but once I did I had a lot of fun. Got all but one planet done then screwed up and rage quit, but I'll be back to try and finish!
Wow, keep working on this, could easily turn into a full game! Couldn't figure out how to refuel though, but had lots of fun, especially with the tricky space flight!
Wow! Fantastic story! Made me sweat! If you were to change anything I'd add something to make it clearer when the player is meant to select a single dialogue rather than wait for a response, since that was the only bit that was slightly confusing. Didn't affect the story though, which had some brilliant ideas and makes the player feel like the decisions are really important!
Brilliant job, one of my favourites so far!
Graphics are brilliant and complement gameplay. Gameplay's innovative and fun, building tension all the time. A little buggy, mouse appeared sometimes, lights flickered a bit, and it wasn't particularly clear that I had to light crystals to survive at first. But I love the persistence in each level.
I could see this being a game I'd pay money for if it were expanded upon!
The little command prompt thing comes up, does some stuff then disappears... Then nothing else launches? If you can fix it that'd be great, since I've been looking forward to playing this! (Windows)
Nice to see something made in Scratch, haven't seen much of it before! Interesting concept, not sure whether or not it's fun but interesting nonetheless!
Nice concept, although I never found any green things despite killing some baddies. I'd make it easier to kill baddies (using 1 spikes) and more likely to give those potions! Quite satisfying building stuff though
from the image i thought "Is that Jumanji?" I was disappointed.
Can't seem to get past the second puzzle, couldn't figure out how to do the dogs part with the >> symbol? Other than that, seems really fun! Enjoyed the co op gameplay!
Need to work a bit on menus, confirmation is dull for every tile, and the menus don't need to be hidden behind buttons, maybe under tabs instead so you can have 'iron age' open for easy tile selection for example. Other than that, nice job! Cool little resource building game!
Simple but fun! Good link with theme.
It's not very clear at first that the mouse controls where you shoot. Cool game though, very arcadey and should have a score counter! Nice music too, really suits the game
Cool, very intricate!
Fun looking game, nice style!
Fun little platformer, I liked the ways you could use the boxes and enemies and everything!
That was really good fun! A really innovative and different game, very refreshing and fun to play! We didn't have any network bugs either. Very well done!
First point: That's a massive download! Is there anything you can do about that?
Other than that, it was cute! It was very very hard though.
I was wondering if anyone was going to use Monster energy drinks. Nice take on the theme and interesting idea.
Funny kind of "end" if that's what the final text was. Nice graphics and made me think, very impressive
Fun, would have been cool to have more levels if you had time! Only because it was fun enough to want more!
Wow! A really great entry. The puzzles were just on the right side of challenging, and the story was fantastic and funny. Really great job!
Nice, fun little game! Feels good to run around and jump at people
Wow! Very nice story. The writing was great, the art was fantastic and the audio was sublime! Really channelling some L.A. Noire there.
The ending was a bit... I'm not sure. It would have been nice to have some more hints as to why they could get sucked into mirrors, or more about the monsters. I got a bit confused about why they needed the 'seed'. And as others have said, it would have been good to have slightly more interaction.
Apart from those two tiny niggles though it was fantastic! Great job.
Great mechanic, really fun! Simple and challenging, really liked the way that the buttons stayed pressed when you died, meant it was less frustrating.
Cool little demo, worth making something further! I found the flashing white every time you attacked a little annoying, but other than that it's a solid proof of concept!
Very nice music! The gameplay was kind of hard to understand, especially how long you had to kill people, but otherwise solid entry!
Nice, really fun and great how the sound builds!
Nice little demo I guess. I like the Mech!
Awesome! Graphics are great and it's got loads of features for a LD game. UI seems a little buggy, but other than that great entry!
Wow! A really rich and complex story. Loved the references to 1984. Really great work!
Haha! Funny take on the theme. Very hard to see what's going on.
Cool start. If the controls were a little tighter it would be great!
Cool, really old school! Didn't go on for too long either, wasn't sure how much content there might be!
A little slow but cool, with nice graphics. Really good powerful feel to the monster
This is the hardest game I have ever played. It was strangely addicting
Wow! Even though there wasn't a lot to do, the simple way the story was presented was fantastic! The music and sound effects were perfect. Really great job!
Fun little game, could do with expanding a bit. Graphics are gorgeous though, really nice!
Very funny little game. Nice work! It would have been nice if there was some other way to lose, like a time constraint, but other than that it was very good!
Loved this! Great music and pretty funny!
Very nice little shooter! It would have been nice to have another enemy type or something, but what you had was very tight and nicely polished! Well done!
Cool, seems inspired by Mad Max, which is great! Enjoyed the music too, gave it a nice mood along with the sepia
Very nice, turned out to be more tactical than it seemed at first!
Haha! Best use of the theme I've seen so far. Ghost duck! Who'd have thought.
I found some of the stuff you had to so was very unintuitive, but I guess that's how these kind of point and click games are. It was hard to find the items in some of the rooms too.
Great fun, really nice gamefeel, and really satisfying! Nothing bad to say about it, one of my favourite entries, loved the artstyle!
A monster dating sim. I didn't think I'd see the day. Really lovely visuals!
I'm not sure how the first level is winnable, you can't get to the bread without the chickens killing you, but the graphics are great!
Bit buggy but the slow motion stuff is crazy cool when it works! Might need some more polish, but the actual gameplay was satisfying
Cool, we really enjoyed your entry, just the right difficulty!
Very innovative little puzzle! Could have done with some slightly harder levels, but the ones there were were very fun. Good job!
Cool, really difficult but super polished and very enjoyable
Nice, quite tricky though. Loved the graphics, and the archers were the best bit, since they could often be killed without being damaged
Nice, end game is a little slow once everyone is dead though, since there's no option to do anything. But one of my favourite entries!
Nice little upgrades game. Would have been nice to have something else to do other than just run after people, but good work!
Really fun, great idea. Decent game feel as well
It seems like you've got a good start here. The feel was really nice, and the context was good.
Fun little game, would be nice if there was some choice involved though.
A really fantastic entry! Fantastic graphics and I loved the Shakespearian-esque dialog!
Really innovative controls, good humour and overall very fun! Love the handmade feel of it!
Nice model for the character! Could do with some more polish and levels and it would be a pretty cool game, people would probably pay for it!
Good voice acting, which is really hard to do. Great graphics and full marks for mood as well!
Great entry! The idea and the graphics were fantastic! It was quite hard to push blocks sometimes, so maybe look into a nicer way of doing that?
Nice take on the theme. It would have been good if the gravity was a bit more or you could accelerate faster though!
Wow! Extremely impressive work. I loved the particles and the persistence, really great game feel!
Funny and weird! Pretty impressive for one day. You should definitely add some kind of goal system
Could have been more clear how to win and where humans are, but a cool start. The destructive scenery was very satisfying
Nice, great visuals, and sound. Loved the little narrator character as well, that was really innovative!
Funny, and a bit more depth than I was expecting!
Ran kind of funny on my computer, with graphical glitches
Cute, played through a couple of times to see different choices and really enjoyed it!
So sad! Incredible graphics and a great gamefeel. Arrows mechanics were fantastic, good enough to make a whole game out of!
Nice, love the graphics! Thought it was really funny too!
Cool, nice story telling piece and an interesting mechanic that could maybe use some work to make it a little more forgiving. But impressive work!
Funny little concept! Nice idea with the people getting more points for the specific attack, but could have been more clear why. Good work overall though, and great sound effects!
Cute little platformer! The enemy cat could be a little more interesting rather than just running at you
Nice, really difficult to build a combo though, although maybe that's the idea. Cool graphics, and lots of fun!
Really great animation. Took me a while to realise I could double jump!
Cool idea! I like the little animations for each attack! Visuals could be more useful like showing cooldown. The monsters were cute!
Nice mechanics, I feel like if you fiddled a bit with them a bit and changed it so it was music-based then you'd have a cool rhythm game!
Really like the polygon style, even if it's a little tricky to tell what to hit and what to avoid. Feels like it could be expanded further!
Tricky, it was difficult to make decisions! I felt as though I didn't have much impact on the eventual outcome, but I suppose that was the point. Incredible visuals and audio, so full marks for those and mood!
The isometric style of the art was super nice! Controls could be a bit janky at times, but overall it was nice!
Cool idea, It would work pretty well on mobile if you used touch to control both tentacles
Nice concept, shame there weren't more levels. Could become a fun game!
Nice, could have had a clearer crosshair, but it's got great viduals and a really nice soundscape!
Haha, you weren't lying when you said it was dumb ;)
Nice work though, a funny little entry.
Nice style, bit tricky to charm people though. Maybe it should be easy to charm people when they are sperated from the others
Fun, could do with a little more depth though. It was pretty well balanced too!
Very funny, and silly! Enjoyable, and you definitely have enough skill to make a more fully featured game next time!
This was the first game I played this LD, but since we hadn't submitted when I played I couldn't rate.
But anyway, real nice interpretation of the theme! I loved the fact you could help or hinder the villagers. The controls were tight, and the camera worked perfectly. I just wish there was more to do, but I guess you know that already!
Interesting use of the theme! Loved the floating island graphics.
Fun to start with bu gets a bit repetitive and mashing shoot can be a bit painful. Cool sounds, and fun idea
Wasn't quite sure how to stop the missiles, but apart from that it was fun! Liked the graphics and simple mechanics!
Really interesting stealth mechanic! Nice take on the theme, a very solid entry.
That was nice and polished, although really really sad! Enjoyed the way storytelling was integrated into gameplay
Really in depth and intertwining story! I'm really impressed with all the content. The writing wasn't bad either!
Nice start! Fix the controls and the sliding and you could have a good game here!
Wow, really fun entry! Got wacky at the end too! Liked the fights, thought they were just the right difficulty. And impressed at the music and presentation of it all!
Some more flavour text would be cool, but fun to see how it played out!
Nice visuals! It wasn't totally clear how you were meant to use shuffle at first, but pretty fun!
Nice mood setting, not sure exactly how to progress other than just killing deer, but it's pretty too!
Really funny! Lots of fun being a terrible person
Nice, simple but quite polished. I really like the graphical style of it and was surprised at how fun it was!
Graphics were great, and the build up of your attacks is really cool! Kind of wanted to play the bit with smaller enemies first, maybe have a whole level building to the boss?
The placement of the bombs almost fit the music, but not quite. Great idea for a rhythm game though.
I loved the music! It was sometimes quite hard to find out what to do, though.
Great game, brilliant idea and fantastically well executed! 5 stars!
Incredible sound, but also a really nice build up to the final couple of levels. Great entry, fantastic polish for any entry, let alone the compo!
Cool, really tricky though. Like the graphic style a lot!
Cool! Graphics and music are really polished!
Super fun to run around and squash people! Could do with some levels or something to have something to aim for
Nice, surprisingly well balanced, so managed to get to the "end" but not without being worried I might lose. Lots of fun!
Fun! Liked the art style. Tiny thing, not really an issue but something that confused me at first: space is attack and click is flap. Took a couple of goes to get used to, only becuase traditionally it would be the other way round. Had a nice sense of progression!
Great art and sound! You can see where it gets its inspiration from but it's super stylish! If there were more levels, either mashed up or with a connecting narrative I would rate this very highly instead of pretty highly. Great job!
Nice! this is one of my favourites. Not the clearest UI in the world but a really nice, fairly complex gameplay loop. I was rubbish at it and could not keep the leader alive but had a really good time! Go comment on people's games for more feedback karma if you have the time before time is up otherwise you might not get enough ratings for this game to rank which would be a real shame. Great job!
Nice, simple but effective! I like the design a lot but struggled a bit using a track pad, which is my own mistake, not a problem with the game. I liked that it was really intuitive and a mix between puzzle and quick reflexes, not many games pull of that balance!
Cool, I enjoyed the vibe of the writing in this one! Funny stuff and feels like a heightened version of a real party! Lots of fun little bits and choices! I think it might work a little better if the graphics were used for anything, or if you got rid of them. Like, either the camera changing places or player movement to match the hyped up music, or if you instead got rid of the 3D and either just used text or had illustrations every now and again. But the core of the game was great and I was excited about every choice I made, and it was funny seeing the results!
Super hard but quite rewarding if you take the time to keep going! I got to 4 points and then couldn't see the next fruit, but I had a good time practicing to get there. I would like to see a version of this with less-random aspects, like a proper level system rather than random fruits. With progression and a bit of work on the movement I could see this being a full game. Good job!
Nice, it would be great to see a fleshed out version with a story! I couldn't figure out how to beat the tomato gang enemy, seemed like they were too powerful! But maybe I'm missing something. I appreciated the fast forward option once I found it, and I could see how the battle system could be expanded. Great job!
Very relaxing and impressive plant generation. Your theme is very similar to our game but has a totally different feel - I love the geometric shapes in the plants and the different growing methods. Would love to see this expanded!
Quite tricky to avoid wetting yourself! Funny game although I kept on accidentally missing the text because I would click too quickly on the wife, so they didn't feel like proper events. I enjoyed the weird look and you can see how it could be developed to become a full sims-inspired game with some more narrative. Cool stuff!
This was nice once I got used to it, although I couldn't figure out how to plant bamboo... I bought a bath but it didn't seem to allow drag-and-drop from the bamboo bag to the bath. But nice graphics and an unusual theme, with good audio as well that helped convey information to the player. It would be good if it were a bit more user-friendly, which I think will put some people off but I had a good time with this one. Love the effort that's gone into the computer and the little truck that arrives, really gives it a polished feel!
Quite a rush! I enjoyed the theme of this one, although it was a little unclear how the mechanics worked on my first go. On my second go I got 5000!
Great audio, very good models and animation! I wish there were a few more levels to play, maybe some with more focused zig-zagging while avoiding bullets. I had lots of fun with this one!
This was nice! Could do with some check points maybe? And the camera work was really impressive for a small game. Good job!
Nice job! I liked the silly humour and the gameplay loop was satisfying. The mechanics worked well together and nice to see a game with achievements!
Excellent entry! Made me laugh a lot, and I enjoyed the mechanics too. I love that it gives you a rank at the end as well, feels really polished!
Cool! I like the graphics and audio a lot, they work really well together. Great mood even if there isn't really any gameplay. Intriguing stuff!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I think the tools/water mechanics could be a bit clearer, it's tricky trying to communicate all the info. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hm that's strange, there should be audio. It seems to work for me but it might depend on your browser or something? Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I agree about the idea of a tutorial, clearer outlines and finding a way to encourage the player to slow down a bit, originally we were thinking about making it take much longer to grow trees and make it more of a real-time game but decided to keep it fast enough to hopefully keep people's attentions. @melomel I'm glad you found it calming!
Thanks for the kind words everyone! @peterfiftyfour thanks for the feedback, I think if we were to do it again or add to it we would improve the visibility of the tree shapes, you're right that it becomes a bit tricky once you're close to done! @black-flag we worked hard on the transitions, thanks for noticing! @damienp I'm glad you enjoyed letting them grow their own way haha
@mateusboga Oh cool, thanks for that! It's cool to see someone playing it live. Thanks everyone for the kind words and feedback!
@jmad Ah cool, thanks for playing through the whole thing! I think perhaps the best way to solve the silence issue would be to add buttons for switching left/right to the trees next to the current one. That way you wouldn't need to zoom out into the room but could still go back to the room for a break from the music? Thanks for the feedback!
@trexxak thanks so much for taking the time for this, we are super stoked that you enjoyed building your own shapes!
@holysparks haha I don't think we thought of that, sorry! Good point though, I'm glad you enjoyed it in the end!
Nice work overall, it's got working mechanics and is easy to pick up and play! I'd like to see a bit more work on the "game-feel" of controlling the dragon, so that it's a bit faster but I enjoyed the handmade feel of the graphics. Congrats!
Make sure you rate games so more people can find this one as well! You'll need about 20 ratings for a final rank. I really like the humour of this one! I tried a whole load of different ways to die and they kept me smiling. I do wish there was a way to undo or checkpoints because if you make a lot of progress it's annoying to have to replay the whole thing to get back to where you were, and then choosing another option usually immediately kills you! But I liked the weird abstract look and had a good time with this one. Good job!
Cool! I would maybe remove that GitHub link, originally I thought I would have to download from there or something. Or maybe move it to the end because I think it might confuse some people! I think the building should maybe be a bit cheaper, it's difficult to build up much stuff without having to run all over them map, which takes a while. I liked the turrets and defense style gameplay most!
Cure little game, marking enemy spawn points is a great feature! I couldn't figure out how to switch bake to the watering mode though. Ran well and shooting was fun although only seemed to work when standing still. Good job!
Hard game! I think I would speed up the movement a bit and maybe increase the size of the player sprite to make it a bit clearer how much it collides! I wanted a bit more of a rushing feeling to collect flies which faster movement would help with. But I enjoyed the mood and chill sound! Well done!
Fun stuff! It was a proper rush with the timer ticking down. I would like to see more feedback from the timer, maybe like a sound ticking down to remind you how much time you have left? But the platforming works well and it was nice and clear how to play after reading the tutorial. Good entry!
Good work! I found it a bit tricky and I would like to see the theme of keeping a plant alive better integrated with the mechanics but it plays well. I really liked the audio too!
A tutorial or introducing systems 1 by 1 would be great in an expanded version, although obviously tricky to get done in such a short timeline! I think it's a really innovative idea, and could be expanded a lot. One thing is that there's not much to do at the moment while you wait for cash, and it's a bit hard dealing with the oxygen/water. But I had a good time and ran through it a few time (and lost ). I was a bit confused about the price of the Oxen, sometimes it's cheap and sometimes it's price would be very expensive? But I liked the design and it was great having a LD game with some story, really cool!
I agree about making the backs of spears not kill you - maybe just the very back quarter or something? But the music is great and doesn't get annoying, and I like the cute little penguin! I played through a few times and got 179 which apparently isn't as good as lots of players here! I actually disagree about the edges of the screen - I think it makes moving there an interesting risk, but I would make the grid bigger so there's more room to move around inside. Cool game!
Great job! Obviously there's a lot there and it's super impressive to even organise a team like that! Loved the music and sound design, and the mood was perfect.
Cool, looks like you're already making the improvements that the game would benefit from! I hope you get to a finished product because this is a really cool start! Love the graphics and the sounds fit just right!
Cool, congrats on your first game jam! It would be helpful to display the instructions either on the web page or in a pause menu, since it's difficult to remember them in one go. Loved the music and the funny little Gnome!
interesting idea and well tutorialised! I can see the design decisions behind the turn-based vs realtime aspects and I think they work really well. The theme was well implemented and gives a real (if small) insight into the current crysis, even if it's a little strange seeing it from the virus' perspective. It all ties together well, really good job!
Also, fantastic audio! It's tricky to avoid annoying music in a game like this but you nailed it
Cool! I like the way it gets harder over time and it was a really good decision to make the saws pretty forgiving. I would love to see a bit more bits added for variety Overall a really solid entry! One of the best ones I've played so far
Nice, well done! Simple but addictive. Reminds me of Super Hexagon and would work well on mobile with the simple controls and a bit more movement in the graphics. Good job!
I like the graphics style of this. A bit tricky to understand, I think using some words in the tips that pop up would have been helpful! But once I got the idea I had a really good time! That last level was tricky and it felt great figuring out the solution. Very innovative!
@purrseus thanks a lot! Pico8 was a blast to work with, really glad we picked it.
@aljon thanks! We tried a few things with the scoring/difficulty and couldn't get anything that felt balanced. Time is always the limit in LD!
@ree-rolph thanks for the feedback! I agree, balancing the game/difficulty is something we thought a lot about and I think we could have done a better job. I had hoped we found a good balance with the scoring system at the end - but perhaps that should be communicated upfront.
@aless thanks! Our artist and musician will be happy to hear
@sophiemae0 thanks for sharing your score! The feedback around balance is great too. It's always hard to find time to properly playtest and balance a LD game!
@marrs thanks! Pico8 is a fantasy console that's designed as a reminder of those sort of games (but a little easier to work with!). We really enjoyed working with its limitations.
@digital-bacon thanks for sharing your score! Glad you enjoyed.
@forgeronstudio glad you liked the bosses! It was a bit difficult getting them to work with pico8 but I'm glad we spent so much time on them!
@noam-blei The name is the actual name of the asteroid! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicxulub_impactor
@avatargreggles Thanks a lot! Sadly it's only a few minutes long - we would have added more waves with more time!
@somogy Thanks!
@tricky-fat-cat I'm glad we captured that "arcade" experience. We tinkered with the difficulty curve a fair amount so it's nice to hear you thought it was smooth.
@digitalcrest thanks for playing to the end!
@slammer Thanks for the review - flow is a great feeling to find in a game!
@squidzilla 77% is a great score! Our artist appreciated being called a "pixelmaster". Our musician will accept "evil genius".
@mikoziq Thanks for sharing your score! Tonnes would definitely make more sense! We didn't think the realism through... then again, as you say, there are space dinosaurs - so maybe a tiny asteroid is the least of the immersion breaking!
@hank-ather It really did feel like cramming it in! The sprite sheet is completely filled, and we were close to running out of tokens (not that I'd been very austere in the first place though!)
@guimoliveira I hear a few people have been having an ethical dilemma about the game! Feel free to wipe out as many or as few as you want ;)
@simplepotential We hoped to get the blood pumping a bit! We often do more experimental things in LDs, so it was nice to do something a bit more grounded and polish it quite a lot.
@ic-rainbow I'm glad you found it fun! "keep it alive" - also potentially "you are the monster"!
@aimainiac We tried really hard to ensure the dinos were introduced and explained, so I'm glad you picked up on it!
@harusame thanks for sharing your score! I agree, waves 6-7 were rushed a little bit and lacked the focus/increase in difficultly of the previous waves. Thanks for the feedback!
@ltyrosine thanks for the review! a few people have mentioned their pity for the dinosaurs - maybe we drew them too friendly looking
@finntastico I think a few people thought they could destroy the dinos by crashing into them. Glad you worked out that wasn't possible! Potentially a feature we could have implemented - some kind of tradeoff between an easier wave but losing mass by crashing into them. Yes, diagonals are faster. I tried making it equal but it felt too slow when moving on diagonals, so I left it the "wrong" way. If you worked that out you can say it's a "pro gamer strat"
@linetaru thanks!
@matthewrobo The homing bullets are definitely the most controversial - we tried to tread the line between difficult and frustrating, but may have got it wrong. thanks for the feedback! We thought about crashing into dinos but worried that it might make the game a bit too easy and more about crashing and attacking than dodging.
@gamepopper Great score! Space dinosaurs was one of the first ideas we had and we knew we'd struck gold.
@nsadie 70% isn't a bad score at all! Thanks for playing :)
@f1krazy I thought I recognised your username when I reviewed your game! Glad you see you're still around  I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and thanks for the positive review of the scoring system. It's something we thought about a lot - having a difficult challenge without frustration is something we really aimed for, so it's nice that you think we hit that mark! 91% is a great score - I'll be honest, 100% was set arbitrarily at 25000kg - which may or may not actually be possible :grimacing: There's some randomness with the debris, so it's hard to work out what the actual mass is. I suspect it's possible though!
@spawncampgames thanks!
@tryston the relation to the theme is a little tenuous! but orbits are technically a loop
@honest-dan thanks so much! A "non-punishing bullet hell" seems like it should be a oxymoron but I'm glad you think it worked!
@harmadillo thanks for the positive review and for sharing your score!
@kaeveris thanks!
@satanos the video is really awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to make it and sharing it with us.
@frank-gevaerts definitely "interesting"! Ensuring everyone could complete the game was high on our priority list.
@kaafirookie thanks so much for the kind words and thorough review! We took a lot of time ensuring the hitboxes were good and fair, so thanks for picking up on that. I liked your backstory too - I never thought we'd get fan fiction written about this game
@duke 94% is one of the best scores we've seen, congratulations! Your joke about chickens is actually very apt - we designed and almost had a chicken enemy in the game! thanks for the in depth review.
@ddrkirbyisq 98% is an insane score! :open_mouth: definitely the highest I've ever seen. I'm glad you read and enjoyed the post mortem too, thanks a lot.
@reef always nice to see more pico-8 games (with very common ideas too!). Using the homing shots to hurt enemies is a really cool idea! We toyed a few times with ways you could fight back, but none of them seemed intuitive enough - maybe using the homing shots could have been it!
Funky audio and I liked the concept of controlling two people with the same controls.
Nice idea with the gravity fields, felt quite smooth to move eventually. Music adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. Great game!
Really enjoyed this, great concept and nice atmosphere. Found it a bit tricky but got really drawn into it!
Nice game! Controls were a little fiddly and I stuck to walls more than I meant to, but I really like the challenge of repeating the level with fewer and fewer abilities.
Nice, atmospheric game! Found a bug where I pushed myself up to the ladder with the trampoline platform, which was great fun actually!
