LD39 — Running out of Power

ROBOT POWER by Imphenzia 2017-08-13T18:55:09Z

The game looks and sounds great! I'm also a sucker for low-poly art, haha. I found the controls were a bit numb in the air, but I guess that motivates more precision flying. I was stuck on the first level until I actually read the instructions that I had to go back to the rocket. On the plus side, I went farther left than the background image :P Good job though!

Find Out Yourself! by asyzruffz 2017-08-21T00:50:46Z

Pretty fun trying to get everything switched on, though it was a bit confusing when everything reset - I wasn't sure if I won or lost. I think I did win, because eventually the power went out and the screen went black. Good old-fashioned mindless fun, haha

Nightfall by Roberto Romao 2017-08-21T00:42:54Z

I got stuck by a bug when respawning in the second level. And I found the controls really unintuitive. But the game looked pretty good, ran well, and was fun to play. I liked it!

My Dear Battery by Diego Manarim 2017-08-21T00:28:54Z

Like others have said, the difficulty ramp is pretty insane - but that's just a matter of play-testing and balancing.

Running From Power by MaiMai 2017-08-01T06:49:31Z

@dioinecail - A minimap is a really good idea. I think it would help with finding the last few pirates, like @sean-beyer mentioned is difficult. Also, I saw power more as fighting power, not electrical power. A variation on the theme. @blksocks I agree, haha! Thanks for the feedback and for playing!

Running From Power by MaiMai 2017-08-03T01:34:22Z

Thanks and good job, @pio, you murderer! But yeah, it's a problem; I didn't have time to do much balancing.

Nectar Frenzy by LizardScript 2017-08-21T03:47:53Z

The game is pretty simple but it's fairly intuitive and it looks so good. Good job!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Glowing Meadow by Ekilibr 2017-12-23T22:51:19Z

Great submission! Looks, sounds, and feels excellent! The only issue I had, at first, was telling the difference between a dying plant and a weed.

Avoider by Linus 2017-12-24T01:01:03Z

Those rotation controls are ridiculous, and the game looks super concept-y, but it's really enjoyable. I'm definitely a fan where you're your own enemy, separated by time.

Clicker Thingie by ludipe 2017-12-24T02:04:34Z

I played it through a couple times to get both endings. I must say I'm a sucker for idle games - I like becoming passively rich I guess, haha. But it's really solid considering the time you spent on it. I think my only complaint is that there wasn't more content - so good job!

Fat Puss by Gama Croma 2017-12-24T00:19:36Z

Super cute art, and I love how the cat gets fatter after eating mice - didn't realize that at first. It's a bit difficult to tell where the cat/foot collision is, but I still won after a few tries, so it's not too bad. Good job!

Ketchup Quest - Endless Arcade Fighting to Protect Your Saucy Stash by samboyer276 2017-12-24T01:33:28Z

Super fun, looks good, and even sounds good! Good job! Oh, and multiplayer too! :O My main frustration was things being occluded by my phat stack of ketchup bottles later in the game, but not a huge deal.

Bestfund inc. by carld 2017-12-28T21:37:31Z

This is a great game! I played it for about half an hour, probably about 20 times, trying to figure out how to make money. Once you reach that threshold where you can afford more (maybe around 1000), though, there's no concern about money. I built the tower and stocked it and the money just kept coming in. But after that, there's nothing more that you can do except watch your money go off the screen. Screen Shot 2017-12-28 at 2.30.13 PM.png

Lore Finder by Eniko 2017-12-24T00:37:17Z

Love the art style! Gameplay felt legit as well. Not a fan of the key mapping, but everyone's different. My only gripe is the stuff you didn't have time for; specifically sound effects and especially the ending. But I def enjoyed it!

LD42 — Running out of space

Nuclear Arms 6: Waste Wizard's Tricks by Logicon211 2018-08-19T01:56:08Z

The game is definitely hard, but fair. And I like the sense of humour. The aiming with the dash was a bit hard to pick up on, but it felt really good when it worked

Bun Run by Gumboot 2018-08-19T01:30:14Z

Love the art style and the bouncing and jiggling of the packages on the bike. The stacking system was pretty cool, though I sometimes couldn't pack many on (not sure if the packages are randomly chosen or I'm just not good at it), and I was really wanting to pack some on vertically

CAVEMAN by MaiMai 2018-08-14T22:46:20Z

Thanks, @justinsix! We used projectors to do the 2D parts, if that's what you're asking about. Directional shooting seemed the most intuitive, though I agree that it's cumbersome regardless. In hindsight, aiming with a mouse may have been better. Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

CAVEMAN by MaiMai 2018-08-19T01:52:18Z

@doey Thanks for the feedback! The theme is not obvious as it's hidden in the story. Basically, the village is running out of space so you need to venture forth and find a new home with more space.

CAVEMAN by MaiMai 2018-08-20T21:07:36Z

Ahh! Sorry @pranjalbisht it seems that it's not well optimized since I developed on a pretty powerful device. Thanks for letting me know, though!

Yeah @jorbits I didn't even think of using the mouse when making the game. Good idea. And the game length was really just limited by how much I could get done in two days.

Thanks for the feedback @shakedimus it seems like you're a victim of the non-optimized nature of the game as well. I added the Windows build after, hoping it would run better, but I guess not. Sorry but thanks for the feedback!

CAVEMAN by MaiMai 2018-08-20T21:09:17Z

Thanks for The Mammoth tip, @velvetlobster ! That looks really cool!

CAVEMAN by MaiMai 2018-08-23T20:24:03Z

@vekstr Hey I like that! Though definitely beyond the scope of the 2 days we had

CAVEMAN by MaiMai 2018-08-29T17:13:13Z

@lndrstrll Thanks! I would have done some more optimization if I knew it was a problem during the jam - but alas, my computer is too beefy haha

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Overslept by MaiMai 2018-12-04T05:22:05Z

Thanks for playing! Totally agree. Balance always suffers in a game jam game, but those are good insights, thank you

LD45 — Start with nothing

Singularity by dob 2019-10-21T03:45:54Z

Took me several minutes to figure out the controls. But others were raving about the gameplay so I decided to push through and try to figure it out. Once you "get" the controls it's really rather intuitive, but when you're staring at a black screen that doesn't do anything it's really frustrating. That being said, once I figured it out, I really enjoyed the gameplay. The puzzles were interesting, and the UI is actually quite helpful in helping you understand when you've gotten each step correct. I also appreciate the leniency in how close I had to be to have it considered correct. Pretty solid game. With some better on-boarding, it could be quite something. Even so, I've played it longer than any other jam game so far.

Start With No Cat by MaiMai 2019-10-14T22:54:48Z

Hey everyone! Thanks for letting me know! Sorry about the missing link. Everything should be working now, and I've added more text and pictures now that I had some time. Get yourself a cat! @vividglo @fabula-rasa @stamestratagem @skdf

Start With No Cat by MaiMai 2019-10-15T04:43:13Z

@inferture Thanks for playing, and also thanks for the bug report

Start With No Cat by MaiMai 2019-10-25T01:57:46Z

Oh, thanks for the info @ddrkirbyisq! (And to everyone else for the feedback. We're reading it all!)

Nothing Ground Down Nothing by Vilja 2019-10-22T06:44:24Z

Good job! I was able to finish the game, though it actually took me until level 4 to fully understand how the words and puzzles were related. The puzzles were quite clever, especially in the later half. Even though there was some nice difficulty scaling, I didn't think it fully taught everything (though that may be intentional for a puzzle game of this sort). As others mentioned, obviously more audio would be nice, and I did find the controls (instructions) confusing on keyboard. Overall, I honestly enjoyed playing it, haha, so kudos!

LD46 — Keep it alive

HareFare by Gumboot 2020-05-04T16:35:13Z

Love the art, as usual. The game feels really good for a jam game. The only thing was that I really missed a yaw control. I think that would have made it a lot easier to control

Chicken Luck by tiptoe 2020-05-09T02:22:20Z

Love the aesthetic - both visual and aural - very cohesive. Not a huge fan of movement and chirping using left mouse button - would have preferred them as separate buttons. But I enjoyed the game and I got to 24 and felt achieved (but also dead)

Beetle Blast by OursBleu 2020-05-11T03:41:49Z

This was surprisingly fun, haha. Very simple concept but balanced well, with a decent amount of game feel for a jam game! Not a whole lot to offer aside from a desire for more content and polish - which you're obviously not going to get from a jam game. Good job!!

HealthAI by TermiGht 2020-05-11T04:30:20Z

It took me 3 runs to understand the controls. _Right click_ the patient to see what their injury is. _Left click_ the elevator that you want to send them to. Once I understood that, I was able to start saving some people. Definitely feels unpolished, but it was pretty fun once I understood the controls. Good effort for a compo!

Toilet Paper Gardener by MaiMai 2020-04-24T07:42:15Z

Hey @a1gemmel @jakemchugh1 @dmtroy @pilarius Thanks so much for letting me know! I usually don't get a chance to check back in during the week. The link should be working now. Try the game again, and please update your rating if you think it deserves it. Thanks again!

Toilet Paper Gardener by MaiMai 2020-04-26T01:18:57Z

That's great feedback, @empty-set , thank you! First, I ended up spending so much time getting the game working that I didn't do any balancing beyond making sure the game was beatable. So, you're probably not missing anything. But thank you for your feedback and for spending as much time as you did playing it. I appreciate it!

Toilet Paper Gardener by MaiMai 2020-05-10T04:50:03Z

Poor marketing, haha. Thanks @sandra-martinez!

Chonk Simulator by Bradalli 2020-05-11T03:53:58Z

Looks cute - especially like the trees and changing time of day. Really had no idea what to do, but it was pretty so I just ran around clicking stuff until the poor Chonkinator died of hunger. Good effort.

Keep What Alive by Valeth2124 2020-05-10T04:48:56Z

It felt so natural to be avoiding people while outside, haha. Overall really good. I got to day 4 but then died from trespassing in an empty room. Wasn't too sure how that happened, and I felt a bit cheated after making it that far. But you have a lot of content in here and I was impressed with how much there was, so good job.

Save It by sundhar 2020-05-09T02:07:08Z

I like the quick gameplay loop of try-die-try, however I died much more often than I feel like I should have because I was still moving back or jumping and went off the stage. Also, the physic material should be set so the player can slide up and onto platforms instead of sticking to them. Overall, though, I like this type of game, and think it's a solid effort, particularly for a compo entry

Frozen Tundra by Kaan Alpar 2020-05-11T04:17:22Z

Looks really good and plays well. The game doesn't have much to do, and it feels like there's no way to escape the inevitable freezing to death. On the other hand, I guess that enhanced the game's feeling. And the ambiance was another thing I enjoyed. Good job!

Bar Mix by JuanVanLitz 2020-05-09T01:44:31Z

Good effort and nice choice of assets. I had some trouble selecting drinks and making them since I forgot all the controls as soon as I read them, haha. Feedback for taking a drink and for mixing a drink would be really helpful. The animator controller was obviously not always in the correct state - I wonder if you would have been better off without animations. Though that may have been at odds with your art style choice (Your high-quality assets create a higher Fidelity Contract meaning that there's a higher fidelity expected for everything else as well). It was honestly a bit confusing for movement that up/down/left/right were all off by 45 degrees. But, in the end, you delivered a complete game and that's worth a lot in and of itself.

Scrambl'd by StarErik 2020-05-10T04:19:03Z

Wow. Solid jam entry. It even has the genuine Nintendo butalness of restarting the level as soon as you die, haha. I swear that sometimes when I restart a level and hold down a direction I go a slightly different distance through the air (there's only a small difference between landing totally okay and splat). The main thing that could have improved would definitely be a death animation/sound/graphic/screenshake. But just nitpicking. Great job!

delivery_birb Has Logged On by ferricsbo 2020-05-11T04:04:45Z

Cool that you used the PICO-8, I've been meaning to try it out. Especially good job if it's your first time using it! I had a hard time reading what button I was supposed to press so I'm pretty sure I wasn't playing the game correctly. Took the second play-through before I realized that the colours co-related to the colours in the bottom right. In the end I lost because yellow bars didn't spawn, which kind of sucked. Overall, though, really good job, it was fun and cute. I like those things, haha

Save the torch! by eduardogacn 2020-05-10T04:06:26Z

A nicely polished game for a jam! (I guess I played the post-jam version, but still) I suppose the main feedback I would have is just that I found the control layout weird. I ended up switching to a controller since that seemed to work, but jump and throw were backwards from what I instinctively pressed. So I didn't get too far. But yeah, honestly, really good game overall!

Dungeon Day-Trippers by Stephen Toth 2020-05-09T01:27:28Z

Looks really good for a jam game. And I appreciate that you were able to get a tutorial into the game (something I never get to...). Jumping was the biggest issue I had, which lead to me dying in spikes, which sent me back to the score screen from the last level. I honestly don't care about my score from the last level, I want to get back into the game. So, a quicker turnaround after dying would keep me playing the game longer.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-05-10T23:31:41Z

This is amazing! I'm so glad you added the mouse as the keyboard-only controls just didn't work for me. I just wish I could use a controller, as that would make it even more easy to control.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Swords & Feelings by salyon 2022-04-17T20:03:58Z

Really lovely art and animations! Like the others, I would prefer to see the actual values related to the daily gains. I played through several times, and Lifesteal seems to be the only way to win (as far as I can tell). So I abandoned most runs if I didn't get it early enough, since a winning run altimately seemed to come down to RNG. Regardless, a top notch entry (compo even!). Greatjob!

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-06T00:07:11Z

Thanks for playing @emaigualmc2-art! I also really like RTS games so I decided to give it a go for a game jam. I would have loved to add a minimap but just getting the game finished in time really came down to the wire, so there were a lot of quality of life features that didn't make it in.

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-06T05:56:20Z

Thanks all for trying it out! @fromage It's funny, my initial concern was that the game would be too fast if the harvesters were too fast. Guess I fixed that problem  @caramelcode There unfortunately wasn't any audio. Like you said, it was very ambitious and audio is always one of those things that gets sidelined. If I work on the game any more, I will definitely add audio @quinn-patrick Thanks for the time breakdowns, that's actually really helpful. I was still working on finishing up the game flow just minutes before the deadline so needless to say I didn't have much time for playtesting. @sacredbacon Running out of resources was also something I was concerned about as I didn't have time to test that out either. Thanks for the data

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-06T06:02:26Z

Based on feedback, the game's pace could definitely be increased. I wanted the player to feel a bit weak at first, then get quite powerful in the end, but I didn't mean for it to take as long as it is - and especially not run out of resources on the way there. My initial plan for the harvesters was that they would increase in efficiency as the base was improved - but that got scrapped due to running out of time. :slight_frown:

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-06T23:27:36Z

Thanks @someone lots of good feedback here! The harvesters continuing to attempt harvesting from an exhausted mine is a bug that I unfortunately couldn't get back to - I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad, but I guess it is problematic.

Losing units out of bounds was definitely a concern of mine, and I may have to rethink how bounds work so that doesn't happen.

I had very ambitious plans for how the AI was going to behave. I wanted them to send occasional small harrassment waves, and have dynamic patrols between resources, and have them respond to the player's base level and build units based on the amount of resources they were making - all that along with story-based twists as the game goes on. Alas, the weekend is only so long.

Building health/damage was something that I hadn't implemented initially that, in hindsight, could have provided a better win condition of destroying the base.

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-17T20:09:23Z

@jamie-slowgrove Thanks for playing! Yeah, definitely didn't have time during the jam, though I did add a minimap in the post-jam version!

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-18T03:22:10Z

Thanks @roka-josh ! Yup, one of the first things I tackled in the post-jam version was to increase the pace of the game. The beginning is still slower but that's to be expected of this type of game. Thanks for playing!

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-20T01:58:45Z

Thanks everyone for playing!

@koalatte The pathfinding was actually just Unity's standard pathfinding. It seems it's not too bad when you don't have *too* many units/collisions. I allowed for a wide margin of error when moving somewhere, but it still breaks down - especially when you have bigger units. If you play the post-jam version, I increased the speed of the harvesters, which helps increase the pace of resource gathering.

@svemir Yeah, given my overambition, I didn't have much time for balancing/playtesting the final game. So, running out of resources is a problem in the jam version.

There is already a post-jam version available for download! There's a bunch of balancing, audio, effects, and polish. Check it out if you're interested in the game as I had envisioned it (I spent about as long as the jam again on the post-jam version  )

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-22T18:08:01Z

Thanks everyone for playing! I had a lot of fun with this one. This has been my favourite jam game I've made so far and the one I'm most proud of.

I'm also happy that @houvv made time to help me out with models so the game actually has content as well.

Rapid Reentry by ygrichman 2022-04-17T19:06:56Z

Took me a run to kind of get what was going on with the components and the space station damage. But once I got it, I spent a few runs trying to figure out a strategy. Unfortunately, like some others, I couldn't get past 3 orbits; but it feels like a solid foundation. Really good job, I had fun! I also attempted an RTS style game for this jam, so it's definitely up my alley.

Earth Watcher by Friend_Pirozhok 2022-04-17T18:07:53Z

Very nice aesthetics! I didn't know how to get cards for a while, then I didn't know how to use them for another while, which didn't leave me much time to save the world, hehe. Given that the aggression seems to increase the same on both sides, the +5/-5 doesn't do much, aside from cancelling out the next one - and the +10/-5 is an obviously worse card. But since cards can't be discarded, I guess it's just a matter of playing what you have, which doesn't feel too strategic, but I guess leans into the theme quite well. Congrats on finishing the compo!

Hummingbird by Madbarron 2022-04-17T06:51:57Z

Nice! I do like physics-based movement games. It was a little difficult for me to hang out consistently near a flower, since it felt like some clicks were much more powerful than others - probably just an illusion based on the movement. While I didn't like dying, I really liked the rolling bird in the corner of the tilted camera XD

Aster Defense by emrod 2022-04-06T00:28:25Z

Great job, I enjoyed the game! I immediately died the first time and then was able to survive on the second run. As others have probably mentioned, it starts off hard and then gets pretty easy later on. I definitely expected the frequency and health(?) of the asteroids to increase over time but I know balance is really hard to get to in a game jam. Also wanted to mention the Earth is really pretty  I was able to get to a stable defense with no shields AsterDefense.jpg

Lost on the Planet by Domin77 2022-04-17T06:41:25Z

Well done! Definitely felt like I was delaying my inevitable loss, hah. In addition to the wall rotation speed, I would also like to be able to choose which direction it rotates, since I want to slap them down as fast as possible. Also, wasn't sure what sending a message does, but there was a hint in-game when I was close to the ship so I did it a few times - that's useful UX if sending messages is important.

Tidal Wave by BjornStahl 2022-04-17T07:31:00Z

Really fun game, I really like this concept! My main issue with it was that when I moved the walls out, some balls warped inside the walls - probably due to their collision not updating fast enough. So the main way I died was because I was trying to increase the wall size. I played about a dozen times to try and get past that initial wall size increase. Once I did, I was able to last for 528 seconds, which felt pretty good - although I died again because I tried to increase the walls a third time. If it weren't for that bug I would probably still be playing instead of typing this up - I don't know why I find it so addicting...

Explon't by DaFluffyPotato 2022-04-17T18:42:03Z

Wow! and what!? All this in a compo? The art assets are phenomenal and I love the style. Controls are intuitive if a bit chonky but froggg is chonky, so that' good? The gameplay is so juicy and smashing the ground and sending enemies flying is so satisfying :relaxed: Overall, really good job!!

Stick Basketball Arcade by koalatte 2022-04-20T02:11:05Z

Nice and simple. Lost a couple games without scoring, then when I figured it out, I kept scoring and had to stop using the blue balls so the game could end

Carrot Grove by Ehon 2022-04-17T20:53:15Z

Wow, so impressive for a jam game! I loved the backgrounds and Oriel's expressions, haha. There's so much content, congrats to the team!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

18 Souls by MaiMai 2022-10-17T17:38:06Z

@mossieur-patate Wow, thanks for the detailed review. The game indeed starts off hard but becomes easier once you understand it and develop a strategy, which I'm glad to see you were able to go several rounds after a while.

UI comprehension was something I was struggling with. I was hoping the numbers would kind of make sense without having titles for everything, but it seems it might just be more clear with it.

The scythe collision was not initially intended but I left it because it rewards with a strategic reach but also a potential risk.

Good eye with the animation  You're right, it's just a velocity driven animation of the characters' vertical position. I wanted to add a bit more but jam games are full of compromises, heh.

18 Souls by MaiMai 2022-10-19T17:14:10Z

@dzolkin Yay! That makes it worth it, haha. I'm so glad you're enjoying your time with the game. Thanks for playing!

18 Souls by MaiMai 2022-10-25T05:42:24Z

Thanks to all who played! I've made a small update post jam which adds some text to the UI. Hopefully that should be more clear. I do think it's an improvement (even if it's visually less minimalist than my ideal), so I appreciate the feedback

LD52 — Harvest

Harvester 008 by Lintfordpickle 2023-01-25T00:46:10Z

Great entry! Super cool that it's your own engine. As to the game, it's a solid loop...once you find out where to do the things, haha. Took me three tries to finally get the water to the fields and the fields to the warehouse (I actually died the first two times because I was flying around looking for the warehouse to deliver the wheat). The controls are difficult but after a bit of practice you start to get better and it feels really good to succesfully zip through openings. And what that means is that you take bigger risks to go faster but when you do mess up it _really_ hurts, haha. I actually played the post-jam version (you said the features and gameplay are the same) and I didn't have any issues loading, running or lagging on Windows. Again, well done!

Fading Souls by Erkberg 2023-01-24T22:37:53Z

Gameplay was quite intuitive and the sound really sold the mood. I particularly liked the audio cues when focusing on the souls and the impending sound of the Devourer coming closer. Well done!

Barn Busters by UnitedFailures 2023-01-20T01:33:57Z

Haha, so much fun. Physics games are so dangerous to make, but you fully embraced the jank and it worked out wonderfully. A great entry with a decent number of animal variations and traps, well done!

Turtle Atoll by MaiMai 2023-01-11T05:07:55Z

Thanks! I was intending it to be a more relaxing game so I'm glad that's coming across. My concern is that it can still be a bit intense, especially if you start running short on hoomans - but there's only so much time in a jam. And on that note, that's a good point, @grotfang. I tried to balance the size of the turtle, feeling of vastness in the ocean, and movement speed. Thanks for you comments and playing :D

Turtle Atoll by MaiMai 2023-01-25T23:01:58Z

Thanks all for playing! I'm so glad people are enjoying the game  I was so worried about people getting soft-locked if they lost too many hoomans. No one's mentioned it yet, so hopefully it's not too bad :fingers_crossed: @lintfordpickle Arrows are shot where the archer expects the target to be so there's no guarantee of a hit. That means the further away you are and the faster you move, the less likely your hoomans are to get hit. I would always circle the boats when I was playing (though that was also based on earlier strategies where the hoomans were far worse marksmen)

Harvey Harvest by DrSomma 2023-01-24T22:21:27Z

Nice entry! I found the game more stressful than I expected, having to plant, harvest, and deliver everything in time, but that's more about my preference than a comment on the game, I suppose. Despite the simple premise, it's surprisingly polished and complete for a jam game, so well done!

Fields Of Gold by Thierry 2023-01-12T23:59:46Z

I successfully deforested the entire map, I think I won capitalism! Great entry, was a bit sad I got stuck on the weed mission, I wanted to keep playing. I enjoyed my time, well done!

Afterlife Assistance Agency by FishMasterino 2023-01-09T22:16:10Z

I love the art! There are some er..interesting combinations, haha. Depositing people in the coffin felt really satisfying. My first couple runs I was just trying to grab as many as I could but I kept failing and I wasn't sure why. Then I realized that some people matched the face on the right and I understood. Great job!

Boxed In by BurnsDesigns 2023-01-12T22:06:47Z

Haha, very simple but executed very well. I particularly like the small detail of the DVD image always watching the player and grinning when it gets close - great touch ^_^

Juicy Reaping by Kita 2023-01-12T22:19:19Z

Definitely gets intense if you let them pile up. Fantastic job considering it's a jam game!

Calorie Crunch by Sean Esopenko 2023-01-24T22:05:11Z

Really nice entry! Took a bit to figure out how to play (and I had a bit of trouble figuring out what some of the plants were) but experimentation is rewarded and seems to be part of the intended design so it was rewarding once it worked. I also really enjoyed the art style and humour

TurnUp by bcmpinc 2023-01-13T07:06:57Z

Wow, what a game for a game jam... Well done! Was kind of bummed to learn that the robot factories don't work, since I had a bunch of fun playing and trying to get to that point. I think my biggest annoyance was not knowing what most of the upgrades *actually* do. The flavour text gives a hint but it's not always clear. But otherwise, yeah, great job!

Chaos Mode by vacuum_packed 2023-01-25T05:50:51Z

What? This is so tight for a jam game! I loved the foot mechanic, alternating feet - and how they rotate depending on the direction from the source. Just brilliant. And I have actually tried to direct my Roomba:tm: with this method so extra points for realism  Great job!

Danger in the Potager by Odey 2023-01-24T22:47:44Z

Haha, love the art, animation, and those mouth sound effects  Quite simple idea but well executed, well done!

Ancient Order of Michaels by MaiMai 2023-05-03T05:34:34Z

Thanks for playing, @riley9 @simeon-radivoev. Totally agree with both of you, the good and the bad. This game took longer to finish than I hoped, so I didn't get to audio, let alone feedback and polish. But in the end, I'm really glad to hear you had fun

Ancient Order of Michaels by MaiMai 2023-05-04T01:42:00Z

Thanks, @digx7 !

Thanks @james-laird @binroot @djtequila @cheesecube @krassenstein for playing!

And thanks for the VOD, Krassenstein, I really appreciate seeing others play my games  (no matter how painful it can be sometimes). You actually did really well despite it being your first playthrough, you basically played through it exactly how I do :open_mouth:

Ancient Order of Michaels by MaiMai 2023-05-07T19:59:57Z

Thanks for playing, @dmitrygalias @essillore @fargred @lichtung !

You've highlighted some of the issues, essillore. Being a jam game (and running out of time), the rules can be a little archaic, I know. And that ticket in your image...I moved the turret just before submitting the build, and now that ticket will always end up there :(

Anyway, thank you very much for the feedback and do try the update, it's even more fun with the extra *juice*

Ancient Order of Michaels by MaiMai 2023-05-17T18:39:51Z

Thank you for the playthrough video, @icxon, I appreciate it so much! I've already commented on the video itself but it's so nice to see playthroughs from people. Especially for jams where there's never enough time to do proper playtesting, so it's good to see how someone who didn't make the game actually plays it

Dingsi by maxi1324 2023-05-04T01:08:43Z

Great job, especially for a compo! For the second part, the camera being feet height and looking straight forward made seeing anything very difficult and the inverted camera controls made what should have been much simpler platforming into a nightmare.

Wormpocalypse: Battle for Chornobyl by Emty 2023-05-05T23:24:06Z

Congrats on completing a game! I knew it was an Unreal game as soon as I started the game because SteamVR booted up, haha. VR is annoyingly enabled by default in UE, but all you need to do is remove the XR plugin from your UE project, I believe.

Derilicity Delivery by Jag 2023-05-04T01:36:07Z

I'm probably biased because I love racing games, but I had fun playing. It was great and even more so for a game jam! Playing with a controller felt pretty natural. Once I got more comfortable with the controls and the map layout, I could start taking some turns at full speed with boost and drift - and it felt so good! Great job to the team! :fire:

Moonrabbit Collection by DaFluffyPotato 2023-05-04T00:40:23Z

Really nice aesthetic! (For some reason I really love the landing sound, it's subtle but solid) Finished all(?) three missions. Really, aside from no ending, the game feels really polished and complete. Fantastic job!

Bundles of Joy by MetallicPotato 2023-05-04T00:50:43Z

Congrats on completing! My main frustration with playing was that there wasn't enough time to predict how the parents would move. It didn't feel fair that I would fail because they suddenly took a hard left after I dropped the baby and it would splatter across the pavement

FoodEx by stesim 2023-05-04T01:59:02Z

Great job! Took me three tries to realize that it's a physics game and I had to actually carry the food in my truck to each delivery zone. Even so, I enjoyed just driving around. I absolultely love the body roll when turning, and the recovery back on the wheels was really good and consistent! :open_mouth: Actually, the whole game felt really consistent for a physics game, so really well done!

Banana Snatchers by HaymakerCoding 2023-05-05T23:45:12Z

HTML build on itch still doesn't seem to work with deploying monkeys with controller. The Windows exe deploys monkeys but when I launch them they just get left behind on the road. A more minor bug is that the music doesn't seem to loop.

Techinical difficulties aside, I do like the pixel art

Pack It Up by thomaspixelart 2023-05-04T02:22:03Z

What the hell... This is so good!

The pixel art is fantastic, the game feels so good and snappy, the sound design is spot on, the music production is great. I have not critique other than the game gets pretty hard. I got to the third checkpoint without too much difficulty but I couldn't get to the next one before being beaten by the game

LD55 — Summoning

You Are Gnome-Caller by uvwar 2024-04-20T00:20:28Z

I wouldn't have known there was more than one song without the comments but I did get 5 melodies before going insane. GG

Cummon Summon by asfdfdfd 2024-04-20T00:56:56Z

The layout looks a bit weird in 4K but I figured it out based on the intro tutorial of where things *should* be. It was quite a grind to get the last enemy who then killed me in one shot because my defense finished before their attack animation did. I may be salty as I'm writing this right after that but it's a well done game for a jam. Good job!

Tristram by Rongo Matane 2024-04-22T02:07:38Z

Yikes, this game is so good! Somehow I played over an hour, what the heck? I always become so addicted to incremental games and here was no different - trying to increase my townspeople's dungeoneering prowess. Fantastic job!

Witches Fishes by OlavDeng2 2024-04-18T00:18:11Z

It took me half the game time to figure out how to summon something. On that note, I don't really see what value the time limitation actually brings, aside from allowing for a win state in a jam game (something I didn't manage). Overall, the game is clunky but the idea seems interesting. And I mean that as a net positive, game jams are for prototyping ideas, aren't they? Also, extra points for using Unreal, haha!

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-17T04:37:37Z

Yay, thanks @brunoklipel, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-17T21:40:15Z

Thanks so much, @doc-ill. The AI uses velocity in order to calculate throttle and steering so it's actually quite similar to how a player would handle. I spent a bunch of time on it, so thank you for appreciating it, haha. A win state *WAS* planned but I ran out of time to actually implement it. In addition, my plan was for the player's charm to get stronger with each enemy they defeated, which would have helped with the stronger enemies. The charm's strength has a squared falloff so you have to get really in there for it to be effective

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-17T21:42:37Z

I'm glad you enjoyed it, @coffeemakingtoaster! Yeah, I spent way more time than I should have just driving whenever I tested it, so I'm glad that translated

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-17T21:53:19Z

Thanks for playing, @trevor-lentz, and for the feedback. I had actually found some synth/retrowave music but I feared it would grow tiresome once you hear it more than once or twice; moreover, it would have been too intense if it were going constantly. I did want to dynamically increase/decrease the music along with the intensity of hunting down an enemy, but alas the realities of a game jam time restriction. Hence just the background ambience - sorry it was boring, haha.

I didn't want to have a visual circle around the player (as I prefer diegetic UI design where possible) though I did have the health only appear when within a certain radius so it's kind of a visual circle??

For the kinetic attacks, are you just talking about ramming them or some kind of ranged weapon?

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-17T23:40:37Z

Ah, I see, @trevor-lentz. I appreciate the follow up and the suggestions. I didn't want to create a battle racer so I'd rather avoid using weapons/projectiles but using the environment to cause damage seems like an interesting idea. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-19T18:48:14Z

Thanks all for playing! @luis-felipe-pereira @mitur The mouse only affects the camera so it shouldn't be that. The game actually calculates each car's center of gravity and adjusts the thrusters' offset when the game starts (since it's all physics based) so I wonder if it mis-calculated that step on start? I don't know, that's weird, so thanks for the report!

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-19T19:45:58Z

Thanks for playing @surfa! Oh, I had much more planned, including full-on races, upgrading your car, upgrading your charm, multiple demon car varieties, dynamic BGM, and a full day/night cycle. So I agree, it was a bit shallow, haha, but not what I had intended. Also, the background ambient sound is 3 or 4 minutes long, it shouldn't be too repetitive, but if you mean the engine audio sound, yeah, that's definitely a quick loop - though it's a couple sounds mixed together that loop at different times, hopefully adding some variety? Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-20T21:13:50Z

Thanks, all, for playing! And thank you for any and all comments and suggestions!

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-20T21:22:19Z

Thanks for testing with your controller @skleembof, that helps! Along with everyone else who reported the problem ( @luis-felipe-pereira @mitur @dagunov)

I have created a new build (1.0.1) that includes a Dead Zone modifier (the only change) that I'm hoping will solve the issue for anybody having their car constantly turning right. If anyone who had the issue could try out the new build, I would massively appreciate it! Otherwise, I'll just have to wait and see if anyone else reports the issue.

Night 333 by MaiMai 2024-04-22T22:11:55Z

Thanks, @shlolo. Yeah, sorry you couldn't play, Unreal isn't quite as friendly as Unity when it comes to web builds and cross platform.

Thanks for playing @blues. I checked out the Area 51 level in Crash Bandicoot. Yeah, if you mean having oncoming traffic, I think that's a good idea. And, for sure, some music would definitely help. I do think the looping music would have been *more* annoying than the crickets in the amount of time I had for the game jam.

And thank you, ~~Penguinologist~~ @smidgens for playing! I would also love to see a hover game, in fact, we're planning on making this into a full-on game! So, I appreciate your not-necessarily-synthwave request, and also some objective-based gameplay. Having a bunch of different environments would be a lot of work but I do agree that it would be fun to just cruise around with some music blasting!

Deep in Sheep by pfs 2024-04-20T00:05:33Z

Took me a couple runs to get the summoning mechanic between waves. No clear difference between clicking a sheep icon, dragging it, clicking the point left arrow, clicking the X when a sheep is dragged onto the circle, and clicking the Summon button. Your flocking algorithm was a bit lacking on the separation principle but fun nonetheless. Anyway, good entry (and bonus points for Unreal)!

Infernal Covenant by AXLplosion 2024-04-19T19:37:56Z

Really neat concept. The art style is wicked - those three intities look so good. And kudos on making a complete game. It could fairly easily be expanded indefinitely using procedural generation

Necrohold by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2024-04-21T02:16:19Z

I had more fun with this than I expected. Aside from the issues with UI and darkness mentioned by others, I also found that my allies hanging out where they were after defeating an enemy instead of moving forward was annoying - especially when they fought an enemy right in front of the base and then they just hung around until dying instead of helping teammates further afield. But, #jamthings, I guess, haha. Overall, really good entry. I played this longer than most other games, I had quite a bit of fun!

An Other Survivor... by Pierre CILLUFFO 2024-04-18T00:44:10Z

Surprisingly polished game! The notebook sketches aesthetic and sfx are fantastic! I had no idea what I was doing but I reached level 9 and had fun doing it so I guess that's a win! Great job!

Penguinology by Smidgens 2024-04-19T18:40:32Z

Penguin! Game of the Year!

Penguinology by Smidgens 2024-04-22T06:03:50Z

I got my girlfriend to play it. But she's not a hardcore gamer like myself and couldn't quite grasp the subtle yet complex game design concept of placing penguins on things. Once I carefully guided her through this step she has become a pro penguin placer and even managed to put the penguin back down on the original pedastal and, in so doing, doubled my own record for number of places I had put the penguin down! She also agrees it should be Game of the Year

Autobahn to Hell by Revetoon 2024-04-19T23:43:16Z

Wow! This is great, really well polished game for a jam entry! I love the art style and it feels really good to play. Only things I would add are that I wasn't sure at first what I was doing until I caught up to the demon, and then I wasn't sure what to do with him until I killed him and we moved onto the next level. In the second one I caught up and just kind of sat in front of him, doing slow damage. I'm not one to speak, though, your game is way more complete than my car game, haha. Really well done, congrats!

Morth Obscurum by XOREAXEAX 2024-04-19T19:19:58Z

An aural/visual delight! The weather audio/visual effects and lighting are fantastic, and the almost imperceptible music creates such an ominous ambience. The warping effect around the creature is super neat. That, along with the (presumably) procedural tentacle animation all add up to create such an unsettling feeling. Even without any real gameplay this is such an immersive experience! So, massive kudos to you, you've created a wonderful piece of art!

Crazy Court Summons by MistaGiggles 2024-04-19T23:30:35Z

⌰⟒⏁⍜ (leto) by Sodoj 2024-04-20T00:36:38Z

Extremely well polished for a jam game! Had some trouble as it moved away from the original beat and the bells were a bit much but those are minor complaints. Good job!

Armamancer - Never Reload by coffeemakingtoaster 2024-04-17T23:57:17Z

Ridiculous game, I had fun! I needed to turn mouse sensitivity virtually all the way down so I'm glad you added that option. The voice lines were great fun and I'm impressed you fit in the cinematics. The dash felt very abrupt and doesn't feel like it helps much, maybe just with dodging. It felt unnessary that I should have to click the fire button to summon the next thing after using up the previous item.

Fausto by PabloAbraham 2024-04-17T04:47:59Z

Wow, the ambience is spot on! The audio and visual aesthetic is gorgeous, well done!

Amareica by Marin Davys 2024-04-18T00:36:50Z

Extremely interesting avant garde vibe - I kind of liked that I had no idea what I was getting into as I was going through it. I played a couple times and both times the second race was this black and white moving horse meshes. I wasn't sure if it was a bug or intended, haha. I lost all my money, though, so I quit :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I expect this will be the most *interesting* game I will play in this LD, lol, good job!

STAVROS by designernap 2025-10-10T17:57:22Z

Wow, I don't know how people get so much done for a compo!

Great experience design! And I was able to understand what to do without any in-game text, which is the dream. On that note, your chapter title hits were also great. Really impressive work, kudos!

The Witch House by bacontree 2025-10-15T01:21:13Z

Wow, you got a lot done for a game jam! I did like it but I didn't play too long because the character moves through the space too slowly (actually the movement speed felt good, the space just felt way too big). But that's a me problem. So anyway, good job, great entry!

Trashman Cometh by Khamekaze 2025-10-10T18:37:00Z

THIS GAME IS GARBAGE!

lol jk, phenomenal job! That boss is hard but manageable, which is a great balance to hit in a game jam - especially with everything else in this game. The main issue I had with my playthrough was that the aiming reticle was waaay off and worse the further I was away from the target. Don't know if it's because I was playing in 4K or if it's actually like that.

Either way, super solid entry!

Bonkers by mechanicallife 2025-10-13T01:14:41Z

I love the tangible feel of the game. The async multiplayer element is really nice too, good work with that!

Gas Collector by stuckne1 2025-10-10T04:57:49Z

I know it's a small thing but I really appreciated the footstep audio.

Like others mentioned, the space is very large and boring to walk. Enemies would be a large scope increase but adding a bit of platforming or puzzles would allow you to make it much smaller without making the trip to the gas stations trivial.

Outward by chuckeles 2025-10-08T22:04:54Z

Oh no! It ended, I want more! Haha, fantastic, it really hits my incremental buttons. The audio and visual aesthetic is just so great...

If I had any criticism it's that I'd like to better understand the priority system for the littlings choosing which waypoint to go to. But that's minor. Really good job, amazing entry!

Wind Collector by MaiMai 2025-10-07T01:18:38Z

Thanks for checking it out, @kekluck! Especially since there was no description at the time, haha. Also, I'm really glad you were able to figure out what to do without any instructions yet

I'm less glad to hear you had performance issues. There are definite pros and cons to developing on a powerful PC. Thank you for the heads up, I really appreciate it, and thanks again for playing!

Wind Collector by MaiMai 2025-10-08T00:32:57Z

Thanks for playing @taximan981 @winter2277 @stlrain I was aiming for a chill incremental simulator like game so I'm glad some of that came across.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time and had to drop a number of ideas. So I didn't have time to get to juicing it up, which also included audio, as often is the case

Wind Collector by MaiMai 2025-10-10T01:03:12Z

Thanks for playing and the comments!

@aqtun Good question, you're right. My original idea was that space would be at more of a premium and you would be able to recycle and sell turbines. So you would opt for the bigger ones more so because it's better power per space.

@surfacedfox Sorry about performance. I'm assuming it's the grass, I figured it would be more optimized than it turned out to be :frowning2:

@stuckne1 @custodi You'd think I could scope game jams better after doing them for years, but here I am still submitting games with cut features. Time allowing I would love to have music, ambience, and effects. Also, my original plan was to have them all connected to a battery that you would also have to upgrade in order to store more

Wind Collector by MaiMai 2025-10-14T02:54:03Z

Thanks for playing and the comments!

And I appreciate the feedback, @jk5000, and especially that you've played other games of mine and enjoyed them! I do try to do different things in each jam game so there's going to be varying levels of success. This is also only my second LD game in Unreal and it just takes me longer to make something using this engine, so unfortunately I have to cut more features than I'd like  .

If you've played other games of mine you will see that a lot of them do struggle with balance because I barely get it working in time to submit, let alone properly balance and add music, sound, and juice. Some day I will scope a game well!

Excuses aside, thank you for the honest feedback!

Wind Collector by MaiMai 2025-10-29T04:21:04Z

Thank you so much @elfb0y @smilewood @alwayshungry for playing! I'm so happy you were able to experience the type of vibe I was attempting to craft!

The game would have benefitted so much from an ambient soundscape and some SFX to further complement the mood. And lol @alwayshungry, player movement is something I always really care about, and even though it's less directly relevant to this game I did want to add enough speed and agility so that it wasn't a slog to traverse the island - so I'm glad someone appreciated it

Capital Dungeon by fabY 2025-10-14T03:18:05Z

A very complex design for a jam game so, well done, but also probably a bit too much. Same with the UI: it has a lot of features, which is great, but it's super rough.

All in all, probably over-scoped, but it's there, it's playable, and that's what makes a game jam so great - you can make a game and it doesn't have to be super polished. So, honestly great job! (PS, love the fight animations)

IUTBADIAFWBIGTTT9SNICTATMIT by Furisubi 2025-10-13T01:42:20Z

The music feels so right and the sound design is delightfully cartoony.

The theme of the game felt more like organizing (or at least distributing) than collecting. Not a fan of organizing personally, haha, but anyway, great entry!

Tax Collector Millenium Overdrive by elq 2025-10-10T18:14:34Z

The aesthetic is really top notch!

The narrative writing is satirically overt but I guess that's the point, heh. Controls using static cameras is always an issue and it is here as well. It's faithful to the inspiration, I guess. Regardless, excellent entry!

Demon Army Soul Collector by D3kryption 2025-10-08T22:56:09Z

Nice entry! It felt rather awkward to control the characters with the questionable ground collision and camera attached to them. But the setting, voices, and humour were fantastic, good job!

Blossom Fox by Patatje 2025-10-14T03:25:40Z

I was collecting bees at first, turns out that's not how you get girls! But there was no feedback for hitting anything else other than bees and flowers so that's what seemed right. Something else I would have really liked was a little more jump height control. I think not having air control is a good design decision but being strategic about how high I could jump feels like an extra layer I would like

BallBoy! by Neandi 2025-10-07T04:09:21Z

Nice, this feels really solid for a game jam. I didn't understand why I got a game over the first time but then I realized what my job was actually supposed to be . I was going to just toss balls to the other side in hopes they would get in the basket and then I understood why the birds were there :smirk: Great design!

Good job and clever use of the theme!
