This game is dripping with style with the titles and sound effects, I'm jealous of them. Got little jump scares throughout the later levels. I love the enemy character that you have created, the look and feel from them is incredible and I love the sequence of what happens when collect them. So many levels too, lots of work has gone into this one for a compo. Some really great thinking outside the box for elements of this, amazing work!

Weird, interesting and scary. I especially liked the game sound effects and music, but the visuals is also pretty good. Overall a good jam game. Well done.

Great game with a thick, immersive atmosphere. I couldn’t finish it because it crashed on the "Containment" level with a "Low Level Driver Error" (I’m on an RTX 4090). But the execution is really strong - especially the lighting and shadows. Congratulations!
AAh thank you for all the kind comments @wisstopher @jk5000 and @bereg. Sorry it crashed for you! I have seen a huge drop in performance on that level and I am not sure what is causing it. Going to investigate that today to see if I can fix it up for a post-jam version. Unless that counts as a bug fix?! :D

I found it enjoyable. I wish there was a web version.
Thanks @torte478, that means a lot! Glad you enjoyed it @baluj but to this day I still haven't found a way to host or share an unreal.exe via html or web. If you know a way though, I would love to try :)

@designernap You might try running it through cloud streaming instead both Google Cloud (with free trial credits) and NVIDIA GeForce NOW / CloudXR let you host your Unreal project on a GPU server and stream it directly to a browser. It’s not the .exe itself, but it’s the closest way to share a full Unreal experience on the web.

The visuals and atmosphere is amazing! I love the title drops. I think the doors miss having an opening sound effect. Also, Esc key quitting the game is frustrating, I think it should pause it instead.
All in all, solid compo entry!
@baluj this is amazing!! I had no idea, I will try to get that set up this week. I will investigate and let you know. Thank you so much for the advice.
@alexclay Thank you! This is a really good point, I am not a regular player of PC games so I miss simple stuff like this. Thanks for the tip and I will amend in future versions :D

There were some minor performance issues on my PC, but that's not a big deal.
The game is impressive! The theme is achieved, the style is maintained. I liked the graphics. It's somewhat reminiscent of the Half-Quake trilogy. I like games like this. Congratulations on the release!
Ah thank you @apdt I ended up pushing on the style as I don't think I did anything particularly unique with the mechanics so I am glad it resonated :D

Wow, I don't know how people get so much done for a compo!
Great experience design! And I was able to understand what to do without any in-game text, which is the dream. On that note, your chapter title hits were also great. Really impressive work, kudos!
I CANNOT believe this game has a trailer HAHA how cool.
Super creepy all around, but especially those voices. Nailed the dark atmosphere. Funny to read that those breaking noises were actual flower pots - they sound great though, so imo, totally worth it.
At the start of a level, the game kind of repositions the player / loads into a new scene maybe? It's a little immersion breaking. Although, you're pulled right back in with the sound accompanying the title ba-bum! So good.
Woah! Thanks all! @maimai nearly no sleep! That's how! :D but also, I take two days off afterwards to recover and catch up on sleep :D thanks for the kind words and really glad you liked it.
@kapricorn-media I saw some other entries start to make trailers a few aroundLudum Dare 48 so started to make them a day or so after submitting:D @pincushion you are right! The level loads are not quite aligned as I needed to chop up the levels last thing and ran out of time to smooth it out. And yeah, those pot sounds came together quite well :D thank you!
A horror game with a dark environment, wow. I'm glad I didn't play this game at night; just watching the trailer already gave me a chill. The atmosphere is intense enough.
Thanks @yibirabbit007 , I ended up pushing on the atmosphere when I couldn't think of anything original mechanically:D sorry if it's too scary. I have a habit of doing that recently!...
That final rest ending, poor Stavros. I tried replaying it to see if the rising platforms in the castle level lead somewhere else (that's also when I saw the level select "I had hopes", which I felt), but Stavros' fate was set in stone, or rather container.
Very atmospheric horror game! The level where the demon first appeared got me good, that was super scary. I think your work with the sound effects paid off, the sound effects in this game are all superb, they were something that really stood out to me while playing it. The noise when text appears on the screen (I loved this between levels, it was such a good way to set the theme of the level!), the containers breaking, the demons, and the ambience where something seems to be out there. Just amazing stuff. Super well done horror-game, great job!
Very impressive compo game, well done!
@captaindreamcast aaaah thank you so much for playing to the end! :D Honestly, so glad the sound has had an impact because it was an area that I ended up focussing on mid way through. Means a lot
and thanks @skiddings, I do tend to throw as much of myself as I can into a game jam :)

Impressive atmosphere and sound design. I couldn't finish the game but really enjoyed it. Kudos.
Thanks @stefan-b and @jose-bonilla. If you want to see the end you can catch it here in the walkthrough video - https://youtu.be/lprLcbA6iwI
The atmosphere was pretty good! I do love the popup text chapters haha. The lantern effects were really cool and taking the orbs made me think of old school Legacy Of Kain soul taking hah
nice job! :D

That was cool. The lantern was a neat mechanic and there are a good amount of levels for a compo entry. The demons were interesting, although not really a threat after being murdered by the first one to see what happens. The platforming mechanics in the first two levels seemed to be forgotten about after that. I feel it could have more puzzle elements to it as the gameplay was very straight forward.

I really like the atmosphere! I got a bit confused about what I am supposed to be doing, but in the end everything worked out quite nicely.
Thanks @d3kryption! Soul Reaver was definitely the thing that jumped into my head when the theme was announced. Not just me either as I have seen a few other soul collector entries.
@someone Thank you! and cool username there! :D yes, I very much ran out of time to explore each mechanic. The plan was to introduce each one and then make a few levels that showcased combinations.. so that ended up translating into one level... and I made the platforms too subtle on that level so no-one sees them! But thank you for playing and yes. if I was to develop this further I would absolutely take it in that direction.
@le-don Thank you! Glad it all worked out! I tried to use the titles to guide the function a little, but not sure how effective that was in the end.
Thanks everyone!
The atmosphere is incredible with the appearance of the titles and the sound design. Great Job !

Unfortunately I couldn't try it (as of now) since I'm currently running a potato. :potato: :desktop:
gpu.png
But I took a look at the walkthrough-vid and I liked what I saw (and heard). Quite atmospheric! Very good sound design. Gotta love all the screaming and gasping which was surely fun to record. :ghost: :microphone2:
I usually like to record and modify real-life sound-samples myself as well, but had to skip on that aspect this time.

@d3kryption I could definitely see some resemblance to Soul Reaver with the soul-orb collecting. Been reminiscing that particular game/series a lot in the recent years.
Cheers!
Thanks @fivecyclops for playing :) and @dis0rder I am sorry it wouldn't run. This is partly why I refuse to upgrade to UE5 as even LESS people are gonna be able to play my jams! Sticking with UE4.27 till I die! :D Thanks for the kind words and yeah, the sounds were a LOT of fun to make.
Oh my god! I love games like this. I love the evocative atmosphere and the whole theme of exploring the castle and discovering all sorts of oddities and traps. But a game like this needs a bit more polishing and shaders. Even if the game is in black and white, I think it could be better without turning the blacks into pure black, add a grainy effect, and maybe some haze or fog that can fade in and out. Anyway, that's just nitpicking, because it's excellent for a jam! I hope you continue working on the game.
By the way, if you like games with a strange atmosphere, you might want to check out our game too 🥴
aaah thanks @ginger-kyoko ! This is some very on-point and valid feedback, to which I can only respond with one answer... I don't know how to do shaders yet and am fumbling my way through what I do know! If you check my past entries, I so rarely use textures and tend to keep everything flat! I managed once and finished 4th in graphics as a result! But it was a much simpler game. This totally backs up your points :D The haze and fog is something I could have done for sure though, I will keep that in mind. Someone suggested a PS1 post process effect to make it look more dated which is another excellent suggestion.
I will most certainly check out your game too :) Thanks again!
