This one was fun, great visuals and music, the (i can only assume) randomly generated people made me smile on several occasions.

tengovod 2023-01-09 22:14

Funny game, its too repetetive

ghastlymicrowave 2023-01-09 22:15

feels like the mechanic is a little lighter than it could be, but the game looks and sounds charming, and fits the theme perfectly. Would have liked to see more challenges to make the game hard other than just more people. Reminds me of the mii channel and warioware

maimai 2023-01-09 22:16

I love the art! There are some er..interesting combinations, haha. Depositing people in the coffin felt really satisfying. My first couple runs I was just trying to grab as many as I could but I kept failing and I wasn't sure why. Then I realized that some people matched the face on the right and I understood. Great job!

sphinx 2023-01-09 22:18

Interesting take on the theme. I like how it gradually turns into chaos, LOL. Had fun "harvesting" people.

fishmasterino 2023-01-10 13:16

We posted a small update to correct bugs ! - Difficulty now resets when trying again - All hats and hair are now properly rendered in the contract - You can no longer drop a character outside of the frame to never see them again - Cursor is now scaled to screen size - Characters spend less time out of frame - You can now hear the clock tick when time is running out

Thanks for playing and rating our game !

scarpex 2023-01-10 13:20

Those faces are cute! A little hard but fun.

wastedsince99 2023-01-10 13:29

Super fun entry! I love the art and the audio and the concept is cool, too. It has some amount of replayability in the sense that you want to beat your score, but unfortunately it gets boring quicker than it should because there's no real variation in the mechanics, it's just drag & drop with the only difficulty being to spot the right characters. Nevertheless I had fun with it for a while and consider it one of the stronger entries!

sergio-crypto 2023-01-10 13:52

Cute short game, love the chaos energy it gives after one minute or so. Music is spoopy, very fitting

maxededo 2023-01-10 14:00

This is a solid entry, simple gameplay but I had fun with it. Love the pixel art, and thought the little people were funny :)

arron-fowler 2023-01-10 14:00

Super solid entry. Gets quite full on but the game loop is solid and compelling. Really good work. kudos

kodingnights 2023-01-10 14:01

7 souls harvested and only 1 unfortunate mishap

Good graphics, I like the variety in characters. Music reminds me of old Sierra games.

wobbleblocks 2023-01-10 14:05

cool short game, great work!

rhewid 2023-01-10 14:09

Great idea and a very solid base to get this game to a state where it could get the next papers please. Artwork is great. As already others mentioned you could increase the difficulty but otherwise cool game!

yopox 2023-01-10 14:10

Really solid entry: gameplay, music and graphics are all great! It reminded me a lot of Papers Please but in a completely different style of course.

I could harvest 11 souls, I will try again later for sure!

kultuk 2023-01-10 14:20

Really nice! LOVE the pixel art!

mcechinatto 2023-01-10 14:34

I really liked the idea of the game and the art. The music and sound effects also match the game's purpose very well. I found the way that the characters' characteristics vary very interesting, making the game more difficult and fun.

keip 2023-01-10 14:37

Lovely game. Liked the style and the concept of "finding waldow" :D . good work

erik-kubiak 2023-01-10 14:39

It is funny but a bit repetetive :) but I really the aesthetic

hacktrout 2023-01-10 14:49

Short and sweet. A really tightly tuned game with no major flaws. I especially liked how the track got more energetic around the half way point, a nice little bit of adaptive music which is ambitious for a jam game! Well done :)

recursor 2023-01-10 15:32

Nice graphics and sfx along with a solid game loop. However, I don't think the characters should be able to walk offscreen as there were several times I felt like I was waiting for the person to either come back into view so I could grab him or waiting for them to show up for the first time. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this very polished experience. Nice job.

mangoworks 2023-01-10 15:34

Short And Fun!

joanna-skorupa 2023-01-10 15:41

This is brilliant! My fav so far, great idea & great execution. Short and simple but genuinely fun! I hope you continue to work on it and release a full size game. Wish there was a subscribe I could click on!

andreas-roschal 2023-01-10 16:08

Simple concept but really well executed. I had fun playing. I really like the character art. Some combinations of facial features look hilarious.

starlet 2023-01-10 16:36

The game is really fun!! Simple concept but can get very hard and is really fun!!

roroto-sic 2023-01-10 16:37

Great Arts and Souds! Fun to play and a good idea well made ! my best is 10 souls and 0 mistake Capture d’écran 2023-01-10 172759.png

mtpw 2023-01-10 16:47

Real fun game and great pixel art. What bugged me was the rather big page with the person to be harvested, overlapping with a solid chunk of the screen, making it impossible to see if the person is walking there. People also often walk outside the window so they can't be picked up. Maybe changing the walkable map size for them and display the file in a sort of hud with no people hiding behind it and it would be even better.

I got a max of 17 souls with 1 mishaps :D harvested_111.png

schmalex 2023-01-10 17:02

Great, really well polished and satisfying game that has the right ammount of difficulty. It was more fun to play than i anticipated.

echerry 2023-01-10 17:33

Simple idea and great realization. Music sounds pretty good and makes me play this even when I saw all the content of the game

joey-shipley 2023-01-10 17:47

Absolute chaos there at the end, loved it. Game was really easy to learn without reading anything, art top notch, and music too. Really came together for a solid core game. Not much work needed for one of the game stores. :) Good luck on the jam.

noskro 2023-01-10 19:27

Game started pretty simple. But in the end it was just chaos. I loved it. At the start I was planning on commenting, that the people were too easy to distinguishe, but after the 10th soul I don't think that anymore :D

sdelay 2023-01-10 19:50

The difficulty curve is interesting, and well adjusted imo. Good game, simple to understand (yes, the first soul is easy) because of the increasing difficulty. The hand manipulation is smooth, along with the animation. Good job!

furraran 2023-01-10 20:03

The game looks realy good! It may be a bit hard if you struggle paying proper attention to what's going on the screen, but still relaxing in some way.

It would be perfect to have it on smartphone to play in spare time, when you're waiting for something, haha.

procrasteroid 2023-01-10 20:09

It's like a modern reimagining of the old Guess Who game!

I loved it, the art, music, and overall polish were outstanding. Felt like a final release.

I definitely killed a couple of innocents before realising I was looking for the person pictured, oops! πŸ˜…

ukirain 2023-01-10 20:41

Cool and useful game. I remembered "Where's Wally?" and I went back to my childhood. Thanks!

phillip-scott 2023-01-10 23:07

@procrasteroid is right the characters look like guess who people.

Funny game - I had one person that was off screen for 10 seconds! was mildly panicking that I could not see them and the casually walked down.

jajakeim 2023-01-10 23:16

That's a cut game, I love the art style, with it's "Paper please" vibe. You did great!

yamzho 2023-01-11 10:30

This is my favorite entry so far.

Cute graphics, amazing music, fun and entertaining concept. The difficulty scales well.

Well done!

tvorojok 2023-01-11 11:04

I would really like to play longer in the last stage. So that maybe there were some interference or something else, but longer. I really liked the game, thank you!

kosmi 2023-01-11 15:35

Nice game! Beautiful sound and art design!

syudzius 2023-01-11 18:54

Fun little game! Liked the idea, and graphics are very good :) Sounds effects are great too!

stevepixelface 2023-01-11 21:49

Simple, super fun, you get a nice little bit of stress trying to find someone as the clock ticks. Polished to a super high level. Fabulous stuff.

johnnysix 2023-01-11 23:06

Very fun game, would definitely be improved with some minor tweaks like moving the big sheet once you have your next target, and maybe full-screen mode / changing the walk area.

Thinking back to god sims like Black and White etc, the disembodied hand could interact more, maybe pushing other people out the way or banging the ground to make them flee etc..

Keep it up!

megalukes 2023-01-11 23:09

Fun and interesting idea. Nice graphics as well, very well made. Congrats on making it very polished!

ditam 2023-01-11 23:21

What a neat entry, the idea is very simple, but the amount of polish is impressive! Plays very well, with a nice difficulty curve too.

I ran into an annoying issue a few times where targets leave the screen without ever returning, sort of soft-locking you into losing. Something as simple as adding a button for a new contract could easily solve that, but I understand if the lore doesn't allow skipping :)

steelfeathers 2023-01-11 23:24

What a great little game! And the art is so beautiful, excellent work. The only slight issue I noticed is that 1) the people tend to overlap each other almost exactly when there are too many of them (they should have their own personal space bubbles where no other people can stand, so they aren't literally on top of each other) and 2) I lost a person behind the coffin and couldn't pick them up again.

ninnec 2023-01-11 23:28

A well done game that I was able to play on my phone due to the simplicity of the controls :-)

sephowepho 2023-01-11 23:51

Pretty short, but *really really* fun ()! My first attempt, I harvested 12 souls with 0 mishaps, and it was the funnest 50 seconds I've had this jam! I love the pixel art-ed faces, the random generation somehow always comes out with a recognizable/unique face I can spot in the crowd! The polish is great with the little info card, I loved the music (it added a *lot* to the experience), the concept is great and the result is hilarious!

Great job, all of you! Here's a well earned round of applause from me!

aduermael 2023-01-12 00:23

Graphics are delightful! Fun and challenging + super aligned with the theme. Well done!! πŸ™‚

bigwhiteshogun 2023-01-12 00:27

As a pixel artist myself I'm just in awe of your talent. Those faces look amazing and the amount of variation is just astonishing. Fantastic job. I do though agree with one comment that maybe UI would be better as an offscreen bar not overlapping the area where those characters walk. It happened to me few times where the guy I was looking for was hiding behind it. My absolute maximum was 12, and with each consecutive try I only got less and less simply because I couldn't stop just observing all those amazing characters and details you guys placed on them. Fantastic job!

adamwigs 2023-01-12 07:42

This game was so much fun! From the simple loop, the art, the humor, just enjoyed everything. Like the little "unfortunate mishap" counter and the fact that all the souls you reaped come out at the end!

enderswype 2023-01-12 08:58

saw your post with your inspirations and omg, the head finder in mario 64 DS, i missed that ! Really liked the game, animations are smooth and clean!

digital-bacon 2023-01-12 11:00

That was really fun to play, and I love the art style! Excellent work!

elmoeinstein 2023-01-12 21:06

I really love the game and the concept. The art was great and it had good replayability even tho it was so simple. I also loved the randomly generated characters. One thing for me, sometimes the characters would walk off screen so i either couldnt see their heads or couldnt see them at all 9/10

andidebob 2023-01-12 22:09

What a fun short game! The graphics are super impressive, and the soundtrack together with the soundeffects complements everything very well. I like how chaotic things get, once you get past like 10 souls. My highscore is 15, but maybe I will try again later. Well done!

danmerey 2023-01-12 23:54

- Pretty fun game for a few minutes. - Nice graphics. - Enjoyable feedback from actions. - Controls could be better (colliders for people are too small – you can only grab them for head for some reason) - Objective people always go over the edge of a camera, and it's pretty frustrating, especially when you can grab him by the foot, but you can't because of too small collider. - Music and sounds are good. - Game lack some big goal / objective. No meta upgrades, no story, no milestones – no reason to replay the game.

patrickrmc 2023-01-13 22:25

Got pretty good at it, although I feel a bit bad for the "misharvested" soul at the end, poor guy. Solid entry overall the graphics are complete and it feels like a full, fully-featured entry. Easy to understand and very fun to play. Good job on the entry!

hawkin 2023-01-14 03:17

Instant favorite! The gameplay was so satisfying and addicting. The artwork is oddly adorable, and I think you were smart to choose an idea that relied on randomization of a few assets. You got a surprising amount of variety in outcomes! Extending the clock with every bag, especially sub-10 seconds, added a lot of frenzy to the gameplay!

I had two fairly good runs in a row, but I felt like I could get even faster -- a sign of a good game. Oddly, during the first run, I maybe clicked outside of the frame, and the entire frame tinted red for the last half of the game. Not sure how that would happen, but it made it extra challenging XD

orhu 2023-01-14 03:43

Cool game! Reminds me a lot of the wanted poster game from the DS Mario games. The only two things that I found frustrating were how the picture of the new person briefly covers a large corner of the screen and that occasionally the person you're looking for will wander off screen making it impossible to grab them. Other than those things though, this is a really fun game!

matank 2023-01-14 08:58

Really cool game! I liked the art style a lot, and the face recognition game is fun! Also liked the UI of the paper and the feel of the game in general. The only issue (which I guess you get a lot) is that it's annoying when I see the correct guy but they walk off screen and then I can't click on them. Anyway, really awesome game!

yellowkamel 2023-01-14 08:59

Thank you for submitting to my stream! Nice "Finding Waldo"-type game, the graphics were amazing. I really respect the amount of different faces you got out of limited assets. Very nice!

jonqs 2023-01-14 11:17

At first i though it was easy but when their are a lot of character on screen it become challenging. The concept is fun. Love the characters generated. Congrats !

terranb 2023-01-15 00:53

Amazing art and music. I think I would have preferred difficulty coming from a wrench thrown how I play the game as opposed to being time pressured. Really fun short experience though!

chevalbancal 2023-01-15 17:47

Really great game ! Amazing art and audio. Good job !

ginxel 2023-01-15 17:56

I love this art style!

peachtreeoath 2023-01-16 06:50

From the screenshots, I thought this was going to be Papers Please type of game. Tbh, I'm not really a fan of those types of games, because they tend to just be shoddy ripoffs of PP without adding anything unique. I was really glad this game was not the case! Instead, it was a rapid fire Where's Waldo game, of which there are very few games in that category.

The faces were fantastic and you made good use of a face generating system to make it relatively hard to pick out the correct face, especially in later levels when there's a lot of people running around.

There seemed to be quite a bit of variability. The first time I played I could only get 6. I often had to wait several seconds until the guy popped into frame. Only upon coming back here and seeing posts did I realize that was a very low score. I tried again and got 14, with a lot of contract-characters being on screen already. Judging by your comments, the 1st case should've been rare so I'm not sure what happened.

Either way, I did enjoy the game very much. This is a genre I always want to see more of but there doesn't seem to be a lot for it. The later levels were awesomely hard and really challenged me. Great stuff!

philstrahl 2023-01-16 21:22

Had a very "Nintendo-y" feel to it, silly and frantic! πŸ˜… If you're curious, this is was my experience with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnWqmLOzSps

rocktavious 2023-01-16 22:02

This game really impressed me. Super polished, tight game loop, easy win/lose condition but hard to master.

My only feedback is that characters spend too much time off screen because of the looping around the screen nature and that caused me to lose because I lost time waiting for them to come back on screen.

Other then that - all 5's IMO - Great Game!

betovf 2023-01-17 07:03

What a frenzy Guess Who! It gets really crowded  Good job!

gurkenlabs 2023-01-18 19:51

I really enjoyed the variety in faces and their intricate detail. This game feels very polished and complete, for example the ghost animations when the level ends are superb. The sounds and music accompany the gameplay perfectly. Great job!

honey-pony 2023-01-20 21:39

Very solid entry! Everything is nicely polished, the graphics look great, and the music feels very appropriate.

The game does seem rather dependent on luck. In particular, my best run, with 12 souls harvested, had a bunch of characters show up right next to the coffin, making it very easy to score them quickly.

On the other hand, sometimes a person will wander under the character info card, or off screen, and then you just kind of have to wait.

This is somewhat fair, as if you're seeing them walk off screen, technically it is your own failure if you don't manage to grab them before they walk all the way off. But it is rather difficult to grab somebody right on the edge of the screen, particularly because it is somewhat awkward to click near the border of a game running in the browser. Adding some extra padding around that could be helpful.

I did have to test the unfortunate mishap mechanic separately, as I didn't have any in any of my other runs; perhaps my strategy is just rather cautious. But anyways, this was kind of funny, because the first two times I tried to just grab a random person and throw them in a coffin, I actually had gotten the right person by accident. So I had, by luck, just started a run with 2 free souls, that had taken like less than a second each.

Anyways, I do think that a sound effect for unfortunate mishaps would be a good addition, and I almost didn't notice that the timer had gone down, so maybe a little visual effect there could help...?

The one other mechanic that seems a little difficult to appreciate is the info card for each human. That is, there's really not time to read it while you're scanning for them on screen. Maybe you could read each card after the game is over...? (Although, that might have a rather sinister feeling to it... )

The variety in the human characters is super fun, and provides for some nice gameplay. In particular, sometimes in the early game you can very quickly identify somebody by just one feature, which is cool. And, it makes the later game interesting as you have to kind of scan for features that you think you can recognize at a glance, and then filter down the people with those obvious features to see if they are an exact match.

So, the difficulty curve is also a great feature. It definitely feels fair and fun, the way that the number of people on screen increases over time.

Overall, great job!

fluburbio 2023-01-21 00:09

Great game, simple and effective! I agree that the number of people increases a bit too fast, but it's good fun nonetheless.

chase-of-bass 2023-01-21 01:43

This was great!!! I loved the characters faces/expressions -the art in this game was so good -and the music was really good too! It fit the vibe perfectly! The gameplay was simple in a good way and done very well -felt polished and really fun to play! Great use of the theme too! You all did an awesome job on this!! :D

0x01f0 2023-01-21 11:38

*cries in posopagnosia*

no I was just bad at it πŸ™ˆ

very polished game! I especially liked that you get to see the souls by the end of the game πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

rincs 2023-01-21 13:54

That was fun for a little bit, but definitely needed some more spice as you continued on. Loved the graphics and that music is a BOP. I wish I could read whatever it was that was on the cards. The sfx was SO satisfying too!!

a nice numerical implementation of "where is charlie"
