I like the graphics :) Shiny

Harvest From Your Success by jk5000 2023-01-09T22:45:41Z

Deep (kinda). Didn't try to complete the game for the "bad ending", but I think there's one. I liked the game, although camera shaking on walk was not the best idea (ok for me, but a lot of people may feel motion sickness).

Elonkorjuu - Live Harvest by Tutti Ankka 2023-01-13T00:36:16Z

Pretty nice retro-shooter-like game, although with some issues:

- Some sounds are too unpleasant (like ticking of you health). - Animation of reaping is too simple, could be done much more satisfying. - Ghosts models had some artifacts. - Camera rotation lock doesn't feel well in 21 century. I'd suggest you to let players see around them in all directions. It's not Doom 1.

In general – interesting experience and seems like a complete game. Good job!

The Dark Forest and the Memories of Harvest, of One Autumn's Days by Tygrak 2023-01-10T22:06:27Z

Feel the vibes of Inscryption here because of the moody music. Also some Return of the Obra Din touch because of the visuals.

Unfortunately the game is pretty much unplayable due to extremely high sensitivity of the mouse, so the camera is rotating like crazy even if you change my mouse DPI to the minimum amount. I'd suggest you to fix that somehow probably (I think such a change can be allowed even after deadline – maybe pressing buttons 1-2-3-4-5 to change mouse sensitivity).

P.S. as creator mentioned below, you can change sensitivity with K and L keys, it's mentioned in the description (I just missed it)

The Dark Forest and the Memories of Harvest, of One Autumn's Days by Tygrak 2023-01-10T22:21:33Z

@tygrak > the K(decrease)/L(increase) buttons mentioned in controls didn’t work? :( there definitely is some weird stuff there, when I made the windows build it was all fine but when first testing in the browser it was suddenly going insane so I added these buttons as an option

Will try those, didn't see them for some reason – I don't always read the description, but it's understandable that a lot of games don't have tutorials and settings inside the game that is made in 48 hours :)

P.S. Yes, it worked, thanks

Raise the Dead for Fun and Profit by ben_burnes 2023-01-09T23:30:09Z

Fun match-3-like game! Didn't get all the mechanics, but spamming skeletons and zombies worked perfectly to win. Pretty solid and whole (except pause menu, but it's ok)

Boba by danman9914 2023-01-10T06:12:52Z

Glad to see the creator of Inscryption, Pony Island and The Hex on this Compo (even though I'm participating for the first time, and you are here not the first and not the second time)! Making such a well polished game in 48 hours is a real deal, though you have a lot of experience, so it's understandable. Anyway, gorgeous work!

I was already intrigued by the screenshot (graphics felt nice, especially for The Compo), but when I started playing I liked a lot of other things as well. Here are some thoughts:

- Nice little touches on a lot of things like: rulers getting older and changing; animated sun and changing weather; rumble on GUI elements; adding farms and other objects on tiles while progressing and etc. - Neat graphics (both GUI and world elements). - Fun gameplay, even though I'm not a fan of idlers / clickers. Wanted to see what the Harvest is (I'm pretty sure this was the idea – that's why it's shown pretty early in the game). - I like how you reskinned stuff for different civs – it seems like a logical decision, though you could just stopped at 1 civ, but you didn't :) Asian planet with rice made me smile. - After Part 1 of the game it became too confusing, even though I was ready because of the Intro and since I know your games pretty well. It was a real nice idea to make a reskin for other planets and make a player to Harvest a few more planets, but when I collected 10 "????" and bought the upgrade, everything turned out to something really confusing, and then I lost my interest – 3 game windows? What? Pretty funny, but no idea what to do after that. Closed 2 of the windows, and then when I completed 3-rd, last window just closed. Sooo.. funny, but confusing. - After my first "not 100% playthrough" I decided to finish the game, and I saw the ending. I still don't think that the idea with 3 windows is a good solution (since it's too confusing), but it's a funny one. Could be made in 1 window with the same outcome though. - Nice sounds and music. I liked the first soundtrack more though. - Didn't understand at first why the game is called BOBA though, I always accidentally read it as BOOBA. When I got the ending, I got it, but I had to google the word anyway. - Buyable upgrades are not different enough compared to upgrades, that you can't afford currently. This is one UX-suggestion, everything else seems good.

Great game overall! For The Compo – It looked incredible even before the Part 2, but after Part 2 it looked even more hard to make in 48 hours. I slept only 2 hours during The Compo and barely had enough time to finish [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/catchy) (it was ready only 30 minutes before the deadline), so I won't be surprised that you didn't sleep at all. I'm not used to make games in such small time frames, [I prefer to take my time in this craft](https://www.potioncraft.com/), but I was really shocked because of how much can be done in just 2 days (it's 48 hours, damn it!), and your submission is a perfect example. Making it too often can be exhausting though – I don't think I will want to participate in the nearest few months, but it's for now – we'll see :)

Grow Golf by torcado 2023-01-10T23:18:25Z

Funny concept, although too complicated and strange tbh, but the game is solid and very well made! Here are some thoughts:

- Graphics and animations are very well done! Everything is smooth and nice, color scheme is pleasant. - Sounds are nice and gets the job done. - After phase 3 the game become way too complicated, so it's pretty easy to lose interest (and lose the game as well). Difficulty curve is incredibly steep, and it doesn't fit the game well. - I understand why it's now shown where the ball will land, but I'm think that it would be more fun to show the landing area to make it more tactical then pixel-hunting-skill-game. I understand that it's not how it was supposed to be, but it's just a thought. - Having some easy-to-understand end goal would be nice, so there's some motivation to continue.

Generally the game is very well made, good job!

It was all for the Tuna by rosypenguin 2023-01-09T21:41:07Z

**Intro:**

Very nice! I came here because I saw you post with a map https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/it-was-all-for-the-tuna/get-ready-to-explore-the-archipelago-of-nekotuna (even though I didn't find this map in the game), and it looked so close to my game for The Compo https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/catchy, so I just had to check it out :) Our games have a lot in common (I even have Giant Goldfish in the game as well, lol).

**Feedback on the game "It was all for the Tuna":**

- Feels and plays nice. Fun for 5-10 minutes. Couble be even more if a bug with texts didn't happen and if I knew how to buy upgrades (skipped it in the tutorial for some reason). - Fishing mechanics are pretty good, even though I didn't understand it completely (probably need more time to know for sure) - Tbh I think it would be better to separate controls of the boat and fishing (now everything is on Left Mouse Button which is good for mobile, but not so good for PC). - Game has a good enough tutorial. Last tutorial bubbles could stay for a little bit longer, so people don't skip info about the Town and Upgrades (clicking on town is not very intuitive, since you need to be really close to it). - There are different Tunas in the sea (I found at least 4 types: small, medium, big and giant gold one), which is nice. - Boat movement is a little bit jerky, but it's not a big deal. - Ambient sound is pretty annoying, so I played with no sound. - Game lacks map, since it's hard to navigate without it (maybe I didn't find the map in the interface?) - There's a bug: all texts can dissapear after some time, so it's impossible to understand how much Tuna you have and no texts on the GUI / Main Menu / Buttons. - Graphics are pretty good.

Overall really good game, especially considering it's a jam game. Could be a nice game post-jam, so don't stop working on it, good luck!

It was all for the Tuna by rosypenguin 2023-01-09T21:47:08Z

@rosypenguin I'd suggest you to add this map on the game description (also some screenshots / GIFs would be nice)

Fairy Feeder by recursiveanomaly 2023-01-13T01:24:37Z

Very nice game!

- I like the graphics, sprites and animations - Interesting gameplay, although could be too stressful for such "farmy" game type - I like the idea of almost freely placing plants on the screen - Sounds feel nice - I don't like the Music though, it doesn't fit well in my opinion - Game lacks goal. Getting as much as you can [some resource] is not a very good design. Some upgrades / new pixie types / food types or even decorations could be a nice addition. Current goal will do for jam version though - Controls need some polishing - for example canceling selected type of item should be done by selecting other type of item or pressing the same type again (also Right Mouse Button). Placing several pixies / food in a row requires to press on pixie again evey time, which is not very handy when you need to place 2+ at a time. Letting build 2+ in a row would be nice (and RMB to stop placing). Adding hotkeys for pixies and food would be nice (for example 1 and 2 buttons). - Ending is a funny one, although I can't say I like it very much. Still better than nothing :) Reminds me of a [World of Goo](https://store.steampowered.com/app/22000/World_of_Goo/) animations in the end of a level. Didn't get why you get to continue with all the pixies after such an ending.

All in all – great small game for 5-10 minutes

Lil Death by ghostbomb 2023-01-09T03:39:01Z

Good stuff! Pretty fun and feels kinda complete and whole.

**I like:**

- Smooth animations with a lot of frames. Smoothness of action - Sounds and music - Gameplay - Controller support - Some humor parts - Pumpkins

**I don't like:**

- Keyboard mapping on zxc + arrows (I used to play with WASD). I found - Feedbback mechanics, that throw you backwards after attack is pretty annoying, although can be used for some master moves. Still a little bit annoying. - Sprites are pretty basic, although it's understandable for 2-day-jam with fully completed game :)

**Fun fact:**

If you leave Game Over for long enough, it will become a bullethell for a few minutes. And then evertyhing calms (probably some protection from overflowing?)

Harvest Survivor by hadesfury 2023-01-11T22:38:15Z

Pretty obvious that it's a "Harvest" version of [Vampire Survivors](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1794680/Vampire_Survivors/), here's some thoughts:

- Nice graphics. Sprites and animations are cute and fit well. Although some animations (like rolling) don't look well on such camera perspective (tomato rolling backwards look weird). - Sounds are fine, but not balanced with the music volume, so if you want to play with the loud enough music, you'll get spooks every time you cast an AoE explosion. - Colliders sometimes are too big, you get hit and get stuck in obstacles more often than you should by sprites appearance. - Adding multiply attack-abilities to the player character wasn't good decision, it's really hard to control your abilities, especially when you don't know what abilities you got. In Vampire Survivors you at least know what you picked an how it works. - Fun farm mini-mechanic, that help you get more veggies

I like the appearance of the game and also I like the idea to make a Vampire Survivors clone, although I think that it needed to be more different instead of copying all main game mechanics (not good ones, bad ones as well) and not adding interesting ones (like choosing your build and spells). I know that there are some upgrades with level ups, but it didn't feel enough since all abilities already pre-picked for you.

And yeah – this little guys is cute af ↓

Homunculus by Iluvatar 2023-01-12T23:32:36Z

Ok, so I was really exited when I saw the screenshots (especially lab and the book), but when it came to playing I had a lot of problems. I didn't expect it to be a quest with a lot of dialogs. Here's some thoughts:

- Graphics are well done, good job here! - Game start is too long. I almost dropped the game on the first 15 dialogs. I came here not to read, but to play. - Thanks for the option to skip dialogs quickly! - Texts are not very well written, there are some typos and texts are written by not native, probably (which is totally ok for a jam, just an observation) - I dropped playing right after I stuck on the first screen. I got the book and... that's it. I don't know what the game wants from me, and it's pretty frustrating. This is the problem of old quests, so you may say that the design is old. Some hints would be nice. - Embedded version on this page doesn't load (it says Downloading all the time for me), so I had to open WebGL version on itch.

Where I stuck:

9DNWSpcE0KHEf8w.png

---

Some suggestions:

- Don't make player read a million dialogues in the first minutes of the game. Let us play. - Show the main mechanics (at least some hint would be nice) – like drag and drop stuff, maybe some hint arrows for the first actions in the game. - Add let's play on YouTube for those who couldn't complete the game and even advance after room 1, so we could watch the gameplay and content even if we didn't get the controls. - Add link to itch in Links section (you have only Windows one there)

---

Screenshot 2 and 3 are very well done! Again – graphics are really nice!

The Orchid's Edge by Cornflowerblue 2023-01-12T23:11:36Z

Nice and fun Genshin-like small adventure with the objective like in Mario Odyssey. Played with Xbox Controller. Here's some thoughts:

- Fun gameplay, clear objective - Nice animations and graphics - Controls are well polished (I like the Air floating on attacking, attacking sequences and camera follow), although there are 2 easy crucial problems with controls (easy fixable though) – too big cooldown on movement/actions after dash and too big cooldown on movement/actions after 3rd attack. It may seem that it's for more complicated combat, but in fact it's just a frustrating slow combat feature, that needs to be fixed. Got hit by floating enemies too many times when I wouldn't with more quick combat system. - GUI looks nice, although health bar with full HP looks like you lost some HP already. So it was strange that I didn't heal anything with the Heart Flower at firsts 3-4 tries (then I understood that I was on Full HP, it was just bad GUI visuals for bar). - Shorts instead of pantsu could be a disappointment for some audience... :)

It looks like a lot of stuff were made before the jam (like controls and maybe some animations), but if it was made from the scratch – that's really impressive.

Anyway good job and good small game!

Harvest Tataki - Whac-a-carrot by caranha 2023-01-11T23:58:31Z

Funny mini-game, solid pixel-art, although maybe too bright. Feels like a rhythm game, although it's not (probably making it a rhythm game in the future would be a good solution).

It's not clear when it's too late to press on carrot, so probably allowing to press it while the sprite is visible is better solution. Or graying out carrot, when it's too late to press.

Goblin Sylvester the Mighty Harvester by Shess 2023-01-28T18:22:06Z

Very nice game overall. Interesting gameplay, beatifull items, completable goals. Controls could be better, but this is really nice anyway. Too bad I found out about this game too late (after voting is over)S50srOLzmUK6u31.png

Harvest Season by DrunkardWolf 2023-01-10T03:20:08Z

"Not today" was my first ending :D I like retro shooters, and this one is pretty good for The Compo.

- Pretty good mini-shooter, although lacks some additional enemies maybe - Wasn't obvious what to do at first, because no feedback from the Boss when you shoot at it a few rounds - Textures seem nice - Maybe too much camera effects, but it's a good way to achieve a special mood

Bad Apples by paulstraw 2023-01-10T04:56:45Z

- Nice graphics and touch on growing apples and x-ray vision! - Controls of the car are a little bit irritating, but I can see why it's made as it is. - The gameplay is pretty fun, when you get it, but the game lacks objective (just not dying isn't enough for me). - Boomerang is kinda buggy – sometimes it just stays for like 5-15 seconds in one place, and sometimes it returns right away.

Nice game overall :) And thanks for the GIF in the description!

Avian Reaper by MaximBegunov 2023-01-11T22:53:35Z

- Nice medieval vibes and graphics. - Most of the sprites, textures and animations are very well made (I didn't like the Blazing Fire one, but I understand that it's hard to animate fire in this style. - As of gameplay – I didn't like it very much, maybe because it's too chaotic and not very straightforward. Feels like you obligated to do stuff so it's not a complete pain. I'd prefer more straight controls without cooldown or no controlling at all but with better AI or placing static characters (like tower-defense or smth like that)

Anyway really good entry, good job! Glad to see more Medieval styled games!

None of your beesness! by SupremeKurt 2023-01-10T04:22:28Z

So kinda like Minesweeper in some way, but the problem with the gameplay is that you can just go on grey tiles, remember where is the danger and restart the level. Font and the name of the game are pretty funny :)

Crop Circle by Rulrite 2023-01-12T22:16:49Z

This is a very small game with simple, but a little bit complicated gameplay.

- Graphics are pretty good, I feel some Retro Vibes in combo with sounds / music. Pixels may be way too big though. Playing Full Screen is not recommended. - Controls – It wasn't easy at first 30 seconds, but then I got how to control it. Not the easiest controls you'll see in games, but pretty straightforward when you understand how it works. - Gameplay is not standard, so it's kind of fresh, although I can't say that I like it very much. Still nice for 1 run :) - Game feels complete, although very small and with no goal (I didn't want to play the second time, since I didn't have any motivation)

Apple Harvester by rhewid 2023-01-10T03:37:21Z

Fun little game. Probably not the best way to harvest apples though.

Graphics are well done, but some parts of it (like GUI) could be better (though it's The Compo, so understandable).

Also funny texts, good touch!

Apothecary by benskca 2023-01-10T03:59:37Z

As a creator of [Potion Craft](https://www.potioncraft.com/) I can say that I really like the main idea and the alchemy vibes! I like art even though it's pretty simple in terms of style (still sets the right mood and very enjoyable).

As for UX and UI – it needs a lot of polishing, since the game has a very high entry threshold – since there was no tutorial, and there's a lot of stuff going on, I couldn't heal even my first customer (although I tried). Book controls and all the alchemy is not something I could do right away :( Probably adding a Walkthrough YouTube Video could help a lot.

Anyway still very impressive for game in 48 hours and I still like the vibes a lot!

Also, I noticed that you used existing music ("One Bard Band by Alexander Nakarada") – I'm not sure, but I think it's not allowed by the [rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) of The Compo: > Your game, all your content (i.e. Art, Music, Sound, etc) must be created in 48 hours.

So you probably had to go for The Jam or remove music. I'm not sure, but I thought that you should know.

HARVEST by diesdas 2023-01-09T22:22:58Z

- Fun little game. - Didn't expect to have a limit for the branches. - I expected fruits to be more fruity – now it looks like a Close Button (red with the cross) - Probably making it into a larger game with enless grow could be a nice idea.

Gun Harvester by The1 2023-01-13T00:48:00Z

Very nice game!

- Pleasant shooting controls, feedback from actions and sounds. - Graphics and animations are good. - It's not clear that you need to first get seeds, then plant it and then shoot it to get money. - It's not clear how planting controls work (at first) and controls of planting is not what you expect (it plants on your time, not on tile you are aiming for) - Nice that you have upgrades - Didn't expect Roses to kill me. Only then I understood that they are not my friends... - Gameplay is kinda boring after some time because there's no any real threat for a long time

Petra Rabbit's Carrot Chase by TheseusInABottle 2023-01-11T23:53:16Z

Interesting graphics style and good simple solution with tutorial, and funny one with the music. Controls are pretty weird though, and camera rotations doesn't help much with seeing what's happening inside the labyrinth.

Infernal Garden by publicidadeba 2023-01-13T01:39:19Z

I like the art of characters / some projectiles / GUI and work on some details, although gameplay seems to be overcomplicated and I didn't feel the goal. Also watering plants doesn't work as I expected (I though that I need to spray the plants, but I needed to press right where the plant is to grow it). Also sounds seem nice. Character movement animation looks too jerky in my opinion.

Midnight Harvest by SirLich 2023-01-10T04:34:22Z

Nice concept, even though I couldn't play the game farther than level 3 and didn't want to restart :) This idea could be used for some larger game in the future, good luck!

Also Right Mouse button and Left Mouse button swapped didn't feel logical to me, since Left Mouse button is "approve" and Right Mouse button is "decline" in most cases. I played 1.0.0 version, so I can judge fairly (maybe it's fixed in 1.0.1)

Midnight Harvest by SirLich 2023-01-10T08:20:14Z

@sirlich > My reasoning for the mouse controls was that I didn’t want a double-click to harvest a mushroom. In hindsight, maybe I should have used spacebar or something for the collection, and bind both mouse buttons to ‘reject’.

I think the best would be Left Mouse for picking the mushroom and accepting it as well (and the right mouse for rejecting). But only if you don't want to use buttons. Buttons would be much better solution tbh :)

Midnight Harvest by SirLich 2023-01-10T08:25:58Z

@sirlich > By ‘buttons’ do you mean HUD-space UI? like the ‘Continue’ button in the preview level?

Yeah, UI buttons. So when you click on mushroom you get 2 buttons under the mushroom (Pick / Reject), green and red one. Probably with icons, but it's not that important. It would be much easier for player to understand – and you don't have to think every time what button on the mouse to use (remembering there the left / right, reading the hints on 2 different sides of a screen etc.)

Drake's Fortune by chompdev 2023-01-12T22:33:46Z

Very nice prototype! Here's some thoughts and suggestions:

- I like the gameplay. Reminds me of Angry Birds, but with more freedom. - Core gameplay seems pretty solid, this could be developed into a bigger game. - Meta (upgrades) is there, but could use some work. - Game lack graphics / animations, but fireballs FX seems to work nicely :) - Controls – please don't hide cursor in such controls system – it's vey NOT handy when you don't know where your real cursor position is. I assume you wanted to make it harder to hit the target, but it's not worth it. Game will only benefit from good controls and will suffer from hidden cursor position (IMO). - Don't limit backpack size. It's just irritating and doesn't do anything good (you complete level not for 100% and it's just frustrating).

Generally – I liked the game, but lack of suitable graphics / animations feels very much. If you ever want to continue developing this game, you should consider finding an artist / animator (if you don't have one) and work on the style for sure. Also controls bothered be during the game (again – hidden cursor is a bad design, reconsider hiding it).

Samhain by daitli 2023-01-12T00:49:16Z

Nice hook mechanics! Felt as a Roadhog from Overwatch with no cooldown on hook. Gameplay is way too plain and simple, although it was fun to hook those souls.

Robotnik by kwaku 2023-01-17T20:35:57Z

Nice art and idea, but too complicated gameplay and the lack of step-by-step tutorial is crucial. I'd prefer controlling such a machine with the mouse intead of platformer-character / or multiplayer. This can be developed into something nice, although it needs a lot of work with the UX / controls / level design and good tutorial.

Harvest Dune by rrsmtz 2023-01-13T00:06:11Z

Nice game. Fun and short. I'd prefer something with own setting, but this is fine as well (why not make it about Dune if you want?).

I completed for the second ending (this was my plan all along!), gonna live in the worm's stomach from now on.

Protect Your Farm by connorwmackay 2023-01-10T02:59:09Z

Background that looks like a game isn't the best idea, since you can't see where the game ends without borders. I'd suggest changing background on itch page :)

Forked Up by Paroxysmal 2023-01-10T23:34:49Z

Pixel art is well made, although color scheme is way too green / monochrome. It adds some charm for sure, but it's also not very UX-friendly to play.

Icons in UI for Upgrades are so small and look the same (also because of the color), so it's very hard to understand when you have enough of what resource (I'm player, I don't wanna think, game should help me with that :))

Idea with grinding and gathering resources to get upgrades is not new, but still very good one! Although the combat system is not very pleasant with controls, but needs a lot of polishing to be enjoyable and not frustrating. Also it's pretty easy to get 4-shotted in 1 seconds, since the invincibility time is very low.

Pixel-art texts is understandable desisiton, but really not the best way to give information with such a font (It's really hard to read anything).

I liked the graphics and the idea. Although some of the stuff will need a lot of polishing and playtesting if you decide to make it as full game. Still like this submission, good job!

P.S. I played with Xbox Controller.

Fun little game! Even though it's a clicker, the game would benefit from Hold mode very much (I played with macros on my mouse, and it felt much better than clicking every time).

Nice game graphics, but upgrades should have the same color scheme and style – currently it looks too unfinished because of that.

Good job! I finished the game btw :)

Afterlife Assistance Agency by FishMasterino 2023-01-12T23:54:00Z

- Pretty fun game for a few minutes. - Nice graphics. - Enjoyable feedback from actions. - Controls could be better (colliders for people are too small – you can only grab them for head for some reason) - Objective people always go over the edge of a camera, and it's pretty frustrating, especially when you can grab him by the foot, but you can't because of too small collider. - Music and sounds are good. - Game lack some big goal / objective. No meta upgrades, no story, no milestones – no reason to replay the game.

Propaganda by She Wrote 2023-01-10T02:21:50Z

Fun little game! Lack of animations and proper graphics is balanced with simple, but fun and engaging gameplay. Wanted to drop the game after first 3 minutes, but then decided to finish it – wasn't that easy, at least until I got how the propaganda-meter works :)

For some reason the game doesn't work in embedded version (but works on itch). > Failed to read the 'serviceWorker' property from 'Navigator': Service worker is disabled because the context is sandboxed and lacks the 'allow-same-origin' flag.

Funny concept, although it was pretty hard to understand controls. I won first map not doing anything (cars just mayhemed themselves), after a few minutes I finally understood the controls. Placing walls was fun.

Nice fun Puzzle! 7 level was pretty hard, but I made id at the end. You lost me on level 11, because I lack action is such games, but it's not the problem of the game :)

Graphics and animations are nice, I'd change some color scheme maybe. Sometimes it's hard to understand where the tunnel of the Temple is (when it's not facing camera) – you have to guess.

Hartifacts by lisyarus 2023-01-10T08:50:14Z

@lisyarus > Ah, that’s a shame, there’re just 12 levels in total :D

> Speaking of temples, you can rotate the camera with the middle mouse button. Guess I should mention this in the description, thanks :)

Huh, I didn't know that :D Anyway some indication without rotating would be nice (like a small detail). I almost didn't know what to do in one of the first levels, where the entrance is on the back (at that point I didn't know that there should be an entrance, and I can't connect it just like Cities – from any side)

Crypt Caper by Asieke 2023-01-10T06:56:03Z

I like the minimalistic art style, though text is barely readable and the darkness probably would benefit from being pixel-art to match the style.

Reap and Sow by rickylee 2023-01-12T00:35:58Z

Fun little game with pretty sprites. Animations / FX could be done better (for example explosion from shooting almost completely overlap with the player sprite), it's too hard to find gates (they look like fence) and there're too many trolling empty spaces that you can't pass (like where 2 fences nearby, but you can't fit between them). Also animation of collecting yellow stuff is pretty weird.

The Decade of the Harvester by sdelay 2023-01-10T22:17:14Z

Nice game:

- Good enough graphics - Short enough (although I almost dropped the game on level with harvesting 3 organs, but decided to finish the game) - Funny ending - The game lack some guide on where the organs might be (or I didn't find any), so you just cut it and restart the game - Harvesting organs is a good way of understanding "Harvest" theme. I was sure that someone will make that kind of game, although didn't want to make it myself

At first I liked the idea (when I saw it on the screenshot), but it seems that you just need to scream loudly in your microphone, which is not the best way to use sound. Probably can be developed into something interesting, but avoid making player to just scream – make it about keeping a particular note of dodge something during the melody – that could work :)

Final Harvest by GreyNovemberGames 2023-01-12T00:57:04Z

Graphics are pretty good. Gathering mushrooms and trash is a nice idea, although I felt no objective at all (as well as no freedom, since there's nothing to do in the world), so I almost dropped the game before the storm. Buttons in main menu are barely visible, I'd change that in the future versions. Played LD52 version.

@recursor > The game looks great and is quite relaxing. I was enticed me to keep casting the line out for more fish and enjoyed looking for big bunches to reel in.

Thanks! Yeah, it's kinda addicting, except the time when your hook is far away behind your ship, and you are running at full speed and don't want to reel in :D

@feor > Lovely game! Recreating the feel of an old map must have been a challenge but it definitely works, the wind looks good, and fish species are just different enough to be noticeable. Honestly, this reminds me of playing mid-late 00s Armor Games flash games (and I meant that in the best way possible). Great work!

Thanks! Yeah, I felt as a flash developer from 00s as well – I'm not used to make games in 2 days: my [last one](https://www.potioncraft.com/) released in 1.0 after 4 years from the first prototype with the team of 4-6 people :D This 48-hour compo was pretty fun challenge though.

> By the way, I noticed that ship hiding in the far east, behind the island!

There are some other ships on the map as well. At first I thought that there will be combat and pirates (I feature-сut pretty fast), then I thought that there will be some peaceful NPC ships, that floats around (feature-cut as well), then I thought there will be idle ships, that sais something funny or usefull when you are near them (also feature-cut), so after all feature-cuts I left with useless empty ships. I diceded to leave them in the world, because you can bump in them, it looked fun :)

@tigpan > Love the art style of this game and it’s very relaxing. Controls felt very intuitive. The schools of fish blazing past you as you soar past looks incredible.

Thanks! I liked how fish turned out to look as well, although I had to change their appearance a few times during the development since I wanted them to be visible enough, but still "under water" cosidering the "old map" style.

> The wind changing directions when you reach the end of the map is also a nice QoL touch, although I think the game could’ve benefited from an infinite or looping world.

Nice, you noticed :D Actually at first I made it to justify why player can't move any farther, but then it turned out to be a really cool feature that helps to return to the center of a map. Infinity world seemed as overkill for 48 hours due to a lot of problems (both in design and programming), looping world was one of the ideas, but it had 2 problems: If the world is looping, you will just ignore the wind mechanics and go with the wind all the time. Teleporting ship itself seamlessly is not that hard, but teleporting some other stuff (like fish nearby) could be a problem.

> A nice calming sound track and some splashing noises would’ve also been a nice touch.

True! I planned to add sounds and even spent like an hour on adding sound system just to understand that I don't have enough time to record and implement sounds. I wanted to make a complete game in terms of objectives and game mechanics, so prioritized them (and I think it was the right decision). I will probably work on some sounds after the contest. I'm not very good at creating music since I lack experience in that field, although if it was a retro-game, I would be able to create some simple chiptune with the [Beepbox](https://www.beepbox.co/) (tried this service to be more ready for the Ludum Dare in case I need to make some music)

@vigneshwar > Nice Theme. Nice game play especially the wind flow in different direction

Thanks! I wanted to make realistic naval experience (even though I'm don't have real experience in sailing), but I still had to make some "rawing" system that allows you to move slowly even against the wind or backwards and turn the ship while not moving.

> very difficult to find _sage salmon cagey catfish giant goldfish

I wanted to add some monologues that will help you find those fishies, but I didn't have enough time, so here's some hints for you:

- All of those fishies are Rare. They are spawned randomly, and you'll have to look for them. - Zooming our with the mouse whell can help with searching. - Sage salmon is pretty smart and always move against the wind, so it's hard to chase him. The color is pink, so you will easily notice the fish, if it spawns near you. - Cagey Catfish is very slow and stealthy fish. It's hardly noticable, so take a closer look to find it (it has almost the same color as the map background). Also rare, so you may have to search for some time. I spent about 15 minutes to find it in my youtube playthrough (although in my next try I just found it on the starting location in the first 3 seconds, lol) - Giant Goldfish is just very rare (rarest of all). If you are lucky, you'll find it. Keep moving around the map with zoomed out camera. Goldfish is yellow and pretty slow, so you won't miss it.

@justin-c > Really nice game. The sailing mechanic is really well done. I played until I caught all of the special fish. Maybe give us a “you win” screen, at least.

Yeah, the text on top-left conrner changes to "You made it!", but I understand that it's not enough to notice. Also it's kind of a sandbox, so I didn't want to stop player from playing after that (since there are some addition side "quests" like scout all the map or get more upgrades)

Experience of making [one of my previous games](https://www.potioncraft.com/) also helped a lot, I guess.

Yeah, I like how it turned out as well: I had to tweak it during the development a lot to make it less annoying when you have to move against the wind.

Thanks! Nice idea about the Whale, more as a decorative thing probably or as an obstacle instead of being a collectable resource. Imagine a whale that is 2-3 larger than your boat that is being pulled by a hook to just plop into 500 points :D

Fun fact about the fog – sprite used for "fog" on the edge of a map is just re-used sprite of a visibility range around the player (when you zoomed out).

Thanks! Yeah, that's fair – I think that maybe rare fish is too rare. I would probably make some balance adjustments after the voting, but I finished the game 30 minutes before the deadline, so I didn't have that much time to test the balance :) Still completable in about 3-6 minutes, you just need to be lucky on fish!

@xfinktion > Lovely game! Map aesthetic is really nicely done. Wasn’t sure how I felt about controls at first, but then I caught a few hundred fish and I was hooked. Only thing that I would want different is a way to view the fish to give a better idea of what shapes to look out for.

Thanks, glad you liked it! About the "idea of what shapes to look out for" – I didn't have to implement hints in the game during The Compo, but you just gave me an idea to create The Fishy Guide for it. So I made it and added to the description page (I didn't want to spoil it to everyone, so I put it in the bottom of the page. If you are still in mood, you can try to find all the fishies :)

> I saw you suggest you didn’t like at full speed you couldn’t reel in fast enough in a different comment. I did think that was a pretty fun (if unintended) feature. Zooming around looking for the goldfish with a bunch of fish on the line was really entertaining for me :D Maybe limit it to a certain range from the ship if you do decide to change it?

Actually it's already limited (your hook will always follow the boat even if you don't reel it in). Although I think that some way of fast returning hook would be nice anyway, so if I continue making the game after voting, I'll probably try to come up with something balanced enough :)

Anyway I'm glad you got "hooked" by the game and had fun!

Thanks! Haha, true! It was even more frustrating during the development, since in real life you can't go against the wind at all, and in Catchy you couldn't do it as well at first, but then I added some "rowing" power. So you can move slowly in any direction (even backwards if you are stuck). This rowing power also increases with upgrades – after getting 3-4 upgrades going against the wind is pretty not-so-bad :)

Also here's the hint how to sail against the wind:

Haha, I can see you completed all the objectives \*wink\*! But in case you need to find more Catfish (for science ofc), you may want to zoom in using mouse wheel (it will be easier to notice fishies). Also Catfish is longer than Cool Cods and have moustache, but also it's slower then the Cod. Also Catfish has s stable color while appearing/disappearing Cods are always changing color.

Also playing [in full screen mode](https://niceplay-games.com/demos/catchy-ludum-dare-52/) or [on Windows](https://niceplay-games.com/downloads/Catchy_LudumDare52.zip) could be a better experience (although you will have to start over, but you may be more lucky next time – the fish can spawn even in the beginning).

Fish spawn rates definitely need balancing, I didn't have enough time to test it, and it seemed good enough at that point, but more rare fishes could be more fun (even though less time to complete the demo objectives).

Increasing luck with time/ship tiers could be an interesting solution though. Also creating spawnerst for rare fish types could also work, but I didn't have enough time for it :)

@tpunisher33 > The game has some gorgeous visual design and identity, excellent work! For me the biggest flaw is the power of the wind, sailing close hauled results in almost zero speed and the boat carries none of that speed when turning into the wind and attempting to tack. It’s an interesting design decision I’m sure you had to make regarding the direct influence the player had on the boat and how “sailboat-ey” the boat felt to pilot and it’s clear you leaned toward the former. As it is now, the boat feels more like driving a car than piloting a water craft, but that lessens the impact movement has on catching fish which is a part of the balancing act.

> I’d love to play a more fluid version of the game though where the sailboat behaved more like a light water-craft and carried a lot of its momentum into turns so catching fish while on the move was more engaging. Still a great concept though!

I see what you mean here and I agree. It was really hard to make Unity physics do what I want for the sailing in 2 days, so I had to go with the MVP version, although it lacked a few important things. If I had more time to work on physics, I would definitely make it more "sailboaty" and less "car-ry". Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

@theothersamp >The art style is absolutely beautiful! I would have liked slightly more contrast to make the wind and fish a little easier to see, but overall very nice. The game is quite relaxing to play, although I think that aspect of the experience would be improved a lot by audio.

>The wind/sailing mechanic is neat. I liked the slight puzzle element of following the wind, although it never felt that interesting because I always felt like I was sailing aimlessly. I didn’t have a sense of where I should go, so I simply wandered about. I didn’t catch every fish type, because after a while the gameplay started to feel quite samey. There’s a strong core here, and if the game had given me a little more motivation (“There’s been a goldfish sighting off the coast of Gilligan’s Island”), it would have held my attention much better. Navigation and movement would be more interesting if I had specific destinations to reach / problems to solve. Perhaps tides and currents would add another interesting layer.

>With audio and a little more to do this could be a very relaxing cooldown game. A very impressive effort!

Fair points! All of what you mentioned is something that is needed to be addressed in case where this demo becomes something bigger, thanks for detailed feedback!

Pretty fun concept. It's not clear what's the goal. I can see 3 of them, but I don't know which is more important: - Make it to the end (so basically run away from the harvester) - Collect more kernels (so ignore using abilities) - Free as many rats as you can (so spend kernels)

- I like the gameplay graphics (GUI and menus not so much, but it's not a big deal) - Gameplay is overcomplicated and too difficult for my taste, although some people may find it interesting. Controlling 2 machines at the same time is a real challenge, and not everyone's cup of tea. Probably adding different levels where you control only 1 of the machines would be a better choice, and adding 2 machines on the late levels

Little, but well made mini-game with nice graphics.

- Beautiful GUI / Menus / Buttons, nice colors - Nice sprites (most of them) - Game lacks animation (harvester machine wheels, etc.) - Simple gameplay, maybe too simple (I missed some additional mechanics) - In terms of logic it's pretty hard to understand how all of those obstacles appeared on the field - If you select all text and them press any button, text will disappear, but new character will not appear. Pretty annoying bug. - When remove the last obstacle in the level, level should just speed up - In general – I liked the game, even though it was pretty boring (dropped after 3 levels) because of too simple and monotonous gameplay. Some bonuses on the way could help with that.

I also would recommend you to add a link to Itch in the section with links, because a lot of people will look their first (as I did), I barely found your link on the description page. Title orange text doesn't look like a link in most cases. More like a title.

A Small Village by MostLikely 2023-01-12T00:17:24Z

Neat art and idea, although controls and feedback from actions are pretty bad, so it's a pain to play unfortunately :( Here are some tips on controls:

- Right Mouse Button to give order instead of Left Mouse Button - Don't deselect unit after giving an order - No feedback from getting resources look like you did nothing and pretty frustrating. Some small animation of trees / popups with numbers of resources could work. I understand that it's a Compo, but some feedback is needed since everything on the screen don't look like a interactable object

Basically it's a mini-strategy (with survival mechanics), so controls best practices from strategy would be very welcome.

It's very nice that you added a multiple unit selections as a feature (although I didn't make it to 2 villigers)!

Nice entry!

- Cute and whole graphics, fun minimalistic animations and sprites - Very nice chiptune music, fits the game very well - Embedded WebGL version is too small, I'd suggest you make it larger - Jumping height should be smaller if you don't hold the jump button (for better controlling your character) - Jumping bugs when jumping from edges of a roundy platforms - Some sounds would be nice - Pixel size is different from sprite to sprite, which is not very good (for example shovel sprite has smaller pixels) - I'd suggest you to change to promo art to something with pixel art, because current once doesn't show the style of the game, and you can benefit from showing pixel art from the game more in my opinion (I showed something like that in attach, but change sprites to some other ones and make it x2-x3 bigger)

In general I liked the game and had fun trying to complete it except the times when I died because of bad controls or jumping bugs :)

Pretty fun for some time, gameplay is self explaining. I also liked the sounds. Felt a little bit like I was in Minecraft (probably because of the graphics and hissing of spiders). Appreciate the "Hardcore mode" button, since standard experience was a little bit easy.

Trees need smaller colliers though, I walked into them all the time.

Froot Labs by Knatterton 2023-01-13T00:56:23Z

Funny concept, reminds me of a [Slime Rancher](https://store.steampowered.com/app/433340/Slime_Rancher/), which I like a lot.

- Satisfying sounds and plops, though some controls and balancing needs a lot of work, since level looks too random. - Tutorial could use some enhancement as well. - The face that you cant get rid of unwanted color without trashing it is pretty frustrating.

This concept can be developed in something interesting with a proper work, well done!

Harvesting Hustle by AngryRubberDucky 2023-01-12T00:27:14Z

Very nice! I felt like I just played a little bit of Minecraft.

- Neat art and smooth animations. One of the best I've seen so far on The Compo submissions. - Controlling with WASD and Z not so handy, probably adding alternative for Z would be nice (maybe you already have that alternative) - Playing for ~2 minutes is fun, although after you get the idea the game becomes very boring and with no goal. Maybe dividing it into levels with some specific goals and additional mechanics could work better. - Screenshotting in the end feels a bit cheesy and only confuses (since you don't say Game Over or anything like that), so I didn't understand what the game wants from me for some time

LD53 — Delivery

Air Delivery by pianoman373 2023-05-04T17:45:01Z

Nice little platformer with minimalistic graphics and sounds.

It was pretty fun to play, although controls felt a little quirky and underpolished. Graphics are nice, sounds and music are on point, story and upgrades are enough to keep player engaged until the end. Nice work!

Fridge Floppers by Split82 2023-05-04T20:11:52Z

Very nice game! Great minimalistic style, all animations are smooth and neat, as well as sounds effects. Level progression is good as well. Controlling with WASD would be much better for me though, so duplicating control keys to them would be a nice addition: for example WASD + Mouse Buttons would be nice control scheme.

In general one of the best Compo submisions so far. Good job!

Fridge Floppers by Split82 2023-05-04T21:17:53Z

@split82 understandable :) I would just make build-it duplicates in such cases like "WASD+JK" and "Arrows+ZX". Also I always tried to press Q+E instead of Q+W, so maybe making E do the same as W would be a good idea as well.

Btw, Beat Saber is my fav game on VR :)

Inbox Fool by 100th_Coin 2023-05-04T18:06:06Z

Nice game! I liked audio and the jokes, the main game puzzly mechanic is interesting (can't say it's very fun, but it's pretty unique). I liked the work on animations and sprites, although color scheme is something that almost stopped me from trying this game. Aprat from that the game needs some separation between background and foreground – TV look like a solid object, not background, and it's confusing.

In general – really good game (and polished enough!). Maybe too puzzly and not enough platformy (for me), but still very quality content.

RUCHKI by katamary 2023-05-04T21:35:46Z

Graphics are pretty neat, I like it! Sounds are funny and creates a feel of a bad(good?) trip. Controls are not very HANDY (get it? :D), and it's very easy to get tired of the gameplay really soon because of it. But I'm pretty sure there's something to do with controls, so it become much more responsive and fun.

In general game looks very nice, and some controls/UX improvements can turn it into a nice small game!

Ravenhaul by Rongo Matane 2023-05-05T10:54:31Z

Very nice and polished game! Graphics are great and animations are smooth and neat. I can't say I like the gameplay though, but controls, visual, GUI and polishness are really great. Some controls could be more clear, but it's not a big deal. Beak animation shows dedication of the team. Good job!

Mouth Feel by ColeSlaughter 2023-05-07T11:01:36Z

Innovative and engaging. Animations and all th derpiness nicely polished. Storytelling is good (although the story is very strange). It was interesting to experiment with the voice, although it wasn't clear what the game expects from me and what to do with a lot of other sounds, that wasnt on the control panel. Ending was a bit too long, although it was funny to listen to all that stuff.

I liked a lot in this entry, although I'd work on a voice controls. Good job!

Beelivery by Jejkobb 2023-05-05T10:03:20Z

Nice and good looking "runner" with unique mechanics that make sense and pretty fun to play with. Good graphics, not too long, nicely put checkpoints. Story didn't seems interesting to me, although it's better to have at least this kind of story instead of no story at all :) Liked the gameplay, although the game could use a little more sounds, Ilked the "bzzz" sound on restart though.

In general – really good entry, nice work!

Maily Melo by Blix 2023-05-02T21:02:05Z

Very nice entry, with some little (but easy fixable) flaws!

- Great graphics and animations! - Sounds and music are on point. - The whole idea of managing letters and choosing/guessing who should get it is exiting and could be engaging, although 40% of letters are too unlear (starting from the letter 2, because I have no idea who is that Barbacus or w/e his name is). - Gameplay seemed pretty interesting until I founds out it didn't matter at all (at least I didn't see any consequences of my actions, except reactions from characters. - Game lacks the goal. I didn't feel that I really need to be careful with letters, and it killed the mood and interest a little bit. Ending without any consequences was kind of bummer. - Controls need some better explanation (only GIF helped) and polish: it's not clear that you need to pack the letter again; it's strange that you can't just drag-and-drop into character's face without opening him directly and trowing in the mailbox; hover and dragging items from the letters are pretty bugged and not very pleasant; UX overall could use some improvements. - Nice humor, didn't feel too cheesy and seemed to the point.

Anyway great job, one the best JAM games so far. With some time and love it can grow into something really nice, and I would totally play it.

10 Minutes Guaranteed! by Kwiper 2023-05-05T06:49:26Z

Fun polished little game with neat minimalistic graphics, simple but on point sounds and catchy music. Nice entry! Would be better if embedded version was embedded better – try using 948x491 when building WebGL build.

The Pigeon Post Principle by cassowary 2023-05-04T15:36:37Z

Nice and cozy puzzle! I like the animations of flying and landing, also delivery animations are on point. Graphics and color scheme are good enough. Music didn't seem suitable for such settings and gameplay tbh, but some poeple might like it, and it seemsed pretty well done anyway. Puzzle is not my favorite genre, so I got tired on level 10, but I had fun playing most of the levels. Good job!

Pack 'Em Up by OgelGames 2023-05-02T05:44:27Z

Promicing concept and intriguing game mechanics, but I was pretty disappointed when found out that there's no reason to pack things right. You can just throw stuff inside and call another truck.

Nice graphics though. This could be improved and made into a small full game – just add some real goal and a reason to stack it "right".

Juggle Mail by kuviman 2023-05-04T21:13:22Z

Simple, but stylish, I like how it looks and feels. Pretty boring gameplay though – the game lacks goal, plot and progression. With some development can become a nice hypercasual mobile game.

Chain Mail by AdamCYounis 2023-05-02T13:57:26Z

Nice little game, enjoyed it a lot :)

The Box Baby by Revetoon 2023-05-04T10:44:52Z

Quality content. Not just mechanics, but some plot development (not for everytone though). Not too long, nice work with sounds and music. Controls could be better (spraying and shooting is not very handy) and sometimes game "bugs" (level doesn't end if you do something wrong), but the game is really good and full-fledged overall. Good job!

The Smuggler's Map by Phanelly 2023-05-02T20:12:29Z

I really liked the graphics, setting and the mood! Totally my thing. I guess I wasn't the only one who was preparing for Cartography theme, huh :D All sprites are very nice, the only downside is the path line, but it's easy to fix.

The gameplay and controls are not interesting and polished, but I believe it could be improved with more time :)

Bag Stranding by danmerey 2023-05-02T11:43:55Z

@unkilledshadow135-alex it's a secret ending for pros (read the description) :D But seriously – yeah, I know it can happen, but I didn't have a fast solution, I barely managed to finish the level, and I still wanted to have at least one bridge builder in the game, so I left it as is

Bag Stranding by danmerey 2023-05-02T16:49:49Z

@stuembi yeah, such "backpack tangles" are the part of the experience ;) If I had more time, I'd come to some solution for fixing it somehow, but it's still very funny to have it as is

Bag Stranding by danmerey 2023-05-03T09:22:10Z

@yoanndeplo yeah, I wanted picking mushrooms and flowers to have some resistance feedback and popping sound, but it may not be as clear at first :)

RELEASE THE MEAT by NuiN 2023-05-02T05:25:34Z

Pretty fun overall! Some "Bad Piggies" vibes. Did you expect "strange machines" theme to win as well? :D

The game could use a lot of UX improvements though. Here's some of them:

- When you buy a new part, add it to cursor instead of thrwoing on the scene. - Don't reset angle of the part when you pick it up. - Show when the part will be attached BEFORE you release left mouse button, so I know if this position fits - Hints about selling items or easier way (for brain) to sell items. Didn't know about ability to sell before I came here to write a review. - Camera doesn't work very good on down-hill levels (you can't see where you are going). Probably adding separate part for centering the camera would be a nice easy solution. - Using the same button for jumping and starting the level doesn't seems like a good idea, would be nice to have separate ones. - Meat Dropping button is "M", which is not handy at all. I understand, that "M" stands for Meat, although it would be much better to have something closer to WASD (like R or F). Or a way to open the Meat Gates with the mouse. - Saving the previous machine on "restart" would be much better than building it evey time from scratch. That way I wouldn't have to rebuild the whole machine just to change 1 part position.

The game lacked some meta progression and star-system, because I didn't see the reason to deliver more meat than required, and it was a little bit frustrating seing how the level ends before I deliver all the meat.

Style of the meat is nice, machine and first level style seems ok, eveything else (later levels, finish "room" and some other stuff) doesn't look very good imo, although it gets the job done, so...

Also there's pretty annoying bug that doesn't count conneted blocks as connected, so you have to re-install it (and since the angle doesn't save, you have to start over with the angle)

Anyway I had fun playing it, although dropped it on the level with abyss holes. If the UX was better, I would continue playing for sure, because it would take much less time to build a new engine (like x3-x4 less time and much more enjoyible). Congratz with your first game here btw :)

Am I your "Type"? by pralista 2023-05-02T19:55:51Z

Interestig concept, but time here isn't the best mechanic (unless it's the game for training fast typin), I would prefer turn-based gameplay or at least much easier difficulty (normal is already pretty stressing)

Pack It Up by thomaspixelart 2023-05-06T10:34:40Z

Neat runner with nice animations, graphics and sounds. Gameplay is pretty mobiley (well, it's a runner), although it was still fun to play on PC.

Nice entry, although the game really lacks Jump Buffering – it's a must for such platformers, and the controls feel frustraiting at times, when you pressed the button right before you land, but the character didn't jump. It's very easy to implement, so I don't think it's gonna be a problem if you continue the development. I'd also polish wall sliding sound closer to what's happening on the screen (at first sliding is very slow, so the sound should be really quite and build up with the speed of sliding down).

I think it can become a nice little mobile game, good job!

Nice idea. Pretty fun, the ending felt cut off to me though.
