LD52 — Harvest

HARVEST 2300 by xk_the_name 2023-01-09T02:12:21Z

Quite a nice little experience. Great ambience and mood throughout, screenshake and vfx were very fitting for the genre you're working with here. I struggled quite a bit with the controls, but what you have going on here would be great with controller support, if the triggers/shoulder buttons controlled the two sides of the harvester. All around a good time!

Lil Death by ghostbomb 2023-01-09T01:47:13Z

Really fun game. The pogo comboing was super satisfying, controls generally felt pretty much perfect. The single life felt a bit over-punishing, would have liked to have perhaps seen the souls you harvested slowly build up a shield to allow you to take even one extra hit. Was an absolute joy to play!

Pickey (VR Only) by shadowbrain 2023-01-12T07:08:31Z

Noice, incredibly satisfying to pick everything. Surprised that there was no finger curl reading for knuckles but also hey man I get it. That truck tripped me up for a few seconds, wasn't sure what else to pull off

Harvest Survivor by hadesfury 2023-01-11T07:33:01Z

Oh I'll definitely get sucked into this one. The vegetable animations are just the cutest things, and the farming mechanic is a nice added layer of depth  Fantastic work all around!

Aorta by Cloughd 2023-01-08T22:57:21Z

Absolutely nailed the mood, nice job. the shrine-like interactables were fun to seek out, and I liked how the heartbeat sound effect changed as an indicator of your current health status. Was holding my breath anticipating the spooking jump scare the whole time

The Orchid's Edge by Cornflowerblue 2023-01-12T19:28:42Z

Really impressive amount of work done! The level design is wonderful, I had a great time seeking out all the gems hidden in far corners. There's a high amount of polish and enemies are, while generally very easy, still very fun to beat down. The only real nitpick I had was that I wish the lock-on was mapped to the left bumper instead of clicking the right stick, since that input's usually the most frustrating to hit. Fantastic work, very fun!

Bungee Pumpkin Harvester by KOHCEPBA 2023-01-08T23:48:33Z

This was very very fun! I really enjoyed the sort of physics-based Vampire Survivors gameplay, mowing through a bunch of cones with my giant saw, spamming the anchor buttons to keep me swinging like a possessed yoyo. I noticed that the "heal %50" perk seemed to heal %50 of base health and was less useful late game, and although I would see the vfx of the pumpkins getting harvested, after a few moments the sprites stopped spawning to show me where they were. Not that I really needed to know exactly where pumpkins were, though, I just kept swingin' as hard as I could. Had a great time. bungeepumpkinharvester.png

Harvest Tataki - Whac-a-carrot by caranha 2023-01-09T04:26:59Z

Love seeing another Pico8 game in the compo! this was super fun, love the bright and happy soundtrack and was able to roll around my controller's dpad quite well to whack the carrots quickly.

Body Harvesters by Justin_C 2023-01-12T05:30:49Z

Had quite a lot of fun on this one! I foolishly prioritized the first building and didn't even realize the farthest building to the right existed until far too late.

Slim Pickings by ectucker1 2023-01-10T02:37:35Z

Really charming combination of graphics and sound! loved the very hand crafted feel of everything, almost like it was made from construction paper with kids playing around making the do-do-do sound effects, fantastic mood.

Sparkle Slime Mushroom Man by brandann 2023-01-08T22:19:48Z

neither web player nor download seem to run for me, but the characters and env look so cute I really hope you can get it working, would love to play

Strange Garden by Gunturtle 2023-01-09T05:15:38Z

Love to see more Pico8 in the compo! This was very fun! took a couple runs to master the mechanics, but it was a happy sense of discovery rather than frustration. great sound design and little animations all over, everything felt nice and juicy. gonna favorite this cart as I can see myself sinking quite a bit of time into it!

Whap Harvest by pushmepullyu 2023-01-11T06:51:35Z

This was super cute! Would love to have seen some kind of eating animation to confirm that the bear ate the fish. also would like to see fish get launched at different velocities if you slap multiple at once, so you could try to line yourself up to catch one and then the other. Played until I was 100% full and beat it

Bas by salmonmoose 2023-01-12T04:55:40Z

Very fun, very chill, very cute! An incredible amount of care was put into the pixel art and the growing animations. Not difficult but didn't need to be for me to have a great time just moving the character around. Also so happy for controller support! great work!

Fallowtide by Jeremy Ryan 2023-01-09T00:53:50Z

Holy crap that was incredible! Can hardly believe how much you accomplished in so little time. Fantastic spooky mood, had a great time thinking over strategy as I added and removed cards, and the ending really caught me by surprise! This was an absolute joy to play.

Death In Time by Yorsh 2023-01-10T09:02:24Z

really fun controls, it felt great to jump down on people from a rooftop, or hide inside a building until they got close. Art style is nice and simple as well. Quite enjoyed it!

Harvest Swarm by LuhUchiha 2023-01-09T03:50:33Z

The focus on art definitely shows, the farm, the player sprite, all the tools look wonderful. Really well done!

That said, the moment when I picked up something wasn't quite clear to me, although I believe that was mostly due to the web player cropping. the interaction reticle seemed to be always locked to the upper right of the character which made interaction awkward, and interaction seemed often to just not work even though I don't think I was spamming. also the bug in my game was bugged and would always spawn in the same place.

Again though, really good vibes from the sound, art and sfx

Super Hex Harvest by amkingTRP 2023-01-10T08:41:10Z

Great puzzle design and wonderful pixel art! really had a lot of fun figuring out each screen.

It's a Platformer by acdimalev 2023-01-09T02:50:31Z

played via the linked browser-based emulator, worked well until a fair few levels in when I was stuck repeatedly falling into the Eldridge abyss that looked like a repeating tilemap of shrubbery and giant black squares. Was cool to be able to play a gameboy game in a browser. Game was fun for what it was, that jump animation is _wild_  , seemed like the focus here was on the tech used which is quite cool!!

Intake Outake by HackTrout 2023-01-10T08:33:23Z

really lovely pixel art work, and I can tell that a lot of focus went in on juice, visual style, and mood. using the whole keyboard is a really cool concept, this could really be an incredible game for training your typing skills. Lovely music too, I've had it in the background as I'm typing this and it's quite soothing

The Cursed Vest of Soul Harvesting by Frogravity 2023-01-08T22:23:18Z

link to the windows build does not work, maybe posting a link to the itch page itself would work better?

Crop Rotation by ZwodahS 2023-01-08T22:49:26Z

Adorable sprites, super cute and very clear what the smaller art variations between different cards mean once you've read them once. I can see this getting very addicting as you watch your money go up and down with each passing day. had quite a bit of fun!

Bloodberry Fields by anoushcat 2023-01-09T08:25:36Z

Really great art and sprites! it was a bit hard to tell when I was taking damage or where my safe zone was, I might have preferred fewer different types of enemies if it meant that the game qualities of each could be better shown. the structure building was quite fun and gave a clear sense of progression as you were able to build better and better things to protect your little house. overall I quite enjoyed it

Plant Harvester by zimny11 2023-01-12T05:03:52Z

Lovely animations, those potatoes and smug corn cobs are just a joy! The joy of grinding into a wave of incoming carrots was unmatched. the 2-mile-wide turning radius of the tractor was frustrating for just a moment until I remembered all my summers of landscaping as a youth and the skills to drive something so unwieldy came flooding back to me. Great fun, great entry!

Bee-Loved by Maddog 2023-01-08T22:34:28Z

Had a lot of fun! Controls definitely made it feel like I was playing a rage game, and took a good couple runs before I really got used to controlling the bee. Attempting to aim the bee into a flower had the delicious frustration of a carnival game, so if that's the vibe you're going for then *chef's kiss* well done!

Forked Up by Paroxysmal 2023-01-10T03:10:05Z

This was really fun! Absolutely beautiful pixel art. I think reducing the cost of the double jump would be nice, since not having it blocks you from most of the game. I had to grind through days for quite a while to afford it when I kept gettin' killed by that one blob in the tiny pit by the mushroom  Quite enjoyed the game though, gonna keep this one saved so I can play again in the future.

Wheat Master by nyxkn 2023-01-10T03:20:15Z

I hope you know, that game window is going to be open on my pc for the foreseeable future. clicker games are absolutely my guilty pleasure and this one really scratched that itch. extremely addictive!

bLife by samyam 2023-01-08T23:04:26Z

Had a lot of fun just buzzing around the environment for a bit, it was incredibly calming. Thank you!

Wheater of the Colossus by GCake 2023-01-10T02:50:34Z

That was really fun! harvesting the wheat and then watching my wheat counter tick down as I climbed the monster had me carefully considering where I could get to next that wouldn't use more resources. I also very much enjoyed leaping from its shoulders to smack the targets near its hands.

4 Souls 2 Reap by Kepsert 2023-01-10T01:25:41Z

Really incredible game, had a ton of fun playing this, and this style of platformer is absolutely my go-to. Lovely art, controls felt responsive, and the mental math of chaining actions together to get through a segment was a lovely little challenge. Small nitpicks, I would love to have the camera zoomed out a bit further to make certain platforming challenges less a leap of faith. There were times where maybe I did a flashy double-jump because double jumping was fun, but five seconds of slowfall later I needed that second jump and now I have to redo it. Also I'd love to have to attack the spirits at the end of each zone to absorb their powers, instead of just a proximity trigger. That said this is one of my favorite LD 52 games so far, super fun and I can't wait to play more!

Explosive harvest by mrnotcrazy 2023-01-09T09:24:11Z

intro was quite entertaining! the backgrounds on most of the later levels felt too busy, and I would start to lose track of my mouse, my character, sometimes the enemies. Really liked the stacking fruit and combining into bullets mechanic, and I definitely felt differences between the combinations even when I had to kind of just spam [E] and pray, that was quite a nice mechanic!

Root Boy with Legs by shreemp 2023-01-12T20:34:50Z

Very cute game! I think I've seen too much of Omori though because the combo of the hand-drawn pixel art look and color palette was slightly unsettling  really enjoyed the sound fx of the little root boy walking around through!

Wakey Wakey by Jellybean 2023-01-10T03:43:33Z

Took me 187 seconds to wake up all the plants  quite enjoyed the chaos! and the player sprite was adorable.

Reap Its Future by PassbyKamenRider 2023-01-09T04:45:48Z

Loved the little story that took place each day! I was a bit confused at first what was causing happiness to go down, didn't realize you needed to use the scissors even when there was no plant visible in the pot  I wonder if it would be fun to only have the happiness meter appear at the turning point in the story, and have it be more effected by the type of responses you give. Although maybe it does and I didn't notice since I only ever picked the nice responses haha.

Harvest Inn by paloobi 2023-01-09T08:14:46Z

a very nice little experience, flowing through the space->a/d->space->move keyboard inputs was very satisfying as I planted and watered each little seed. I would love to see a seed purchase phase each morning before starting the day, and conditions that might effect how well or poorly something might sell that night, but that's certainly well beyond the scope of the compo.

Extreme Apple Picking by profundity 2023-01-09T02:42:33Z

Silly and fun! managed only 5 apples max but had fun doing it. Can't help but feel that controller support would just be gold on something like this, tried it for the laughs and movement did work, so it was a grand time zipping the little robot around the trees.

Final Harvest by GreyNovemberGames 2023-01-09T03:40:00Z

Incredible graphics, animation, and mood. Some of your building hitboxes are larger than they probably should be, and I'd have loved to see the trucks and trash cans interactable as well, so you could interact them and sometimes food pops out. really fun just to walk around and enjoy the pixel art though

Yamsylvania by 0xWAVY 2023-01-08T23:11:06Z

Yams! I love Yams! Wonderfully charming, incredible music, and very very fun!! I was having a bit of trouble delivering my yams but I'm chalking that up to user error. control scheme and goals were very clear thanks to your guide here, enemy and farmer sprites are adorable, and I liked your color scheme a lot. I could see it getting really difficult very quickly, well it already was quite difficult right away, but very rewarding when I managed to just slide between multiple enemies to get free. Really fantastic work.

Harvest Souls by jjorell 2023-01-09T09:29:35Z

Super cute! really nice artwork for the little souls and the player character. Throwing felt very good even though I didn't really understand the point of it until the end. felt like it was meant to have more uses but got cut back. Was difficult to tell whether or not I was hitting the enemy until the soul popped out of it, something like the enemy sprite blinking white on hit would have increased satisfaction there. But the jumping felt very good and I had a fun time hopping from platform to platform.

Catchy by danmerey 2023-01-09T08:37:21Z

Quite fun to float around, adjust the sail, see what odd sail angle I could still move forward at. trying to line up my cast as the ship was moving to catch a row of fish was quite a fun challenge as well. The art is very nice and creates a feeling of looking at an old captain's map. All in all quite fun!

No Farm, No Fowl by square wave 2023-01-11T05:57:38Z

Really fun game! Loved the upgrades available as I harvested more pumpkins, and the chickens came at a good, challenging pace.

Alien Harvester by Marcel0 2023-01-09T09:16:19Z

very cute and fun! I wish the camera was just a bit further zoomed out to reduce reliance on the minimap a bit, since once I noticed it I felt like I was focusing on it during combat more than the rest of the screen. Would love to see some enemies that slowly wobble towards you as early as the second wave to keep the fights from feeling too static. Though I really liked the character and environment sprites

Iris's Scrappy Rumble by ScolonDev 2023-01-09T01:30:34Z

Really good vibes here! Quite a challenging game but satisfying to walk through a bunch of resources and get some quick shots off. Enjoyed the different combinations but the speed of gameplay and constantly tracking the enemies meant I never got a good sense of how the different components effected the final projectile. beautiful pixel art as well, the resource sprites are so cute and enemy projectiles are very easy to track. Just overall a very fun game!

A Small Village by MostLikely 2023-01-10T03:36:35Z

Lovely pixel art! the setup and mood gave me major "A Dark Room" vibes, which is fantastic. would have been nice to see a second villager sooner since it was difficult to learn and keep up with the game at the start. Really fantastic mood though throughout.

The Gluten Farm by rockford 2023-01-09T01:54:40Z

Had a good time trying to plan my route for the best bale placement, laughed at those chickens that just wouldn't get out of that one corner so I could harvest please. the tractor hit sfx and vfx go a bit too hard compared to the rest of the sfx especially, made me jump in my chair and shout each time I hit something. overall though I had a very good time!

Brutal Harvest by Harlow 2023-01-10T01:36:28Z

The art is lovely, and the corn's voice kept me chuckling as I fired at them. I can absolutely see a ton of care went into a very high level of polish. The only point of confusion was following the tractor, didn't know that the crows taking from the truck was hurting me. In this case a separate health for the truck may have cleared that up, but regardless I quite enjoyed my time playing!

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-08T20:58:30Z

Thanks you! Should be working now, forgot to set to public.

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-09T05:26:58Z

@caranha yup intended! Mostly a feature inherent to how the character was scripting and I didn't see a need to remove it  And thanks for playing through a couple times! Glad you got the big nest

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-09T07:35:33Z

@ghostbomb oh I really like those ideas, they would certainly add depth to a longer version of this game  thanks for playing!

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-10T03:49:30Z

@jellzilla Oh absolutely, accessibility with the inputs is definitely a concern. If time allowed I would have added an option that would keep you flapping up at the correct rate for what you're carrying as you held down the flap button, so holding would be an option instead of just tapping. But as compo game I hoped it'd be alright to relive the old days of gameboy-induced RSI.

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-10T04:04:22Z

@acdimalev thank you so much for the detailed feedback! yeah the button mashing I'd like to remedy with an "auto-flap" option that keeps you flapping upwards as long as you hold the button. You're absolutely right on the penalty increasing for each stick, and definitely would like to make the steps more clear by spacing out the penalty per every three sticks or so. Thanks again!

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-10T17:49:29Z

@zimny11 is the immense satisfaction not enough? I'm joking I'm joking. I had planned to do something extra if you 100% it but ran out of time within the compo. that's something for future non-jam work

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-11T03:07:04Z

@olddog yes you reached the end  thanks for playing!

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-11T03:07:05Z

@danmerey definitely agree I would have liked to add little eat/put in backpack animations. Thank you for your input!

Harvesting Hustle by AngryRubberDucky 2023-01-10T03:57:28Z

Love the voxel graphics, and fun to see a fancade game in the jam! Took me a couple tries and had to read through these comments to see why the game was ending so soon, but once I figured it out it was very enjoyable!

Another Veggie Harvester Unit by validbit 2023-01-09T01:22:48Z

Never before has such serene scenery and peaceful music been paired by the absolute nyooming and tokyo-drifting I just enjoyed. the hitbox for collecting vegetables seemed pretty strict when I was nyooming, had to slow down and approach carefully when I wanted to actually fulfil the point of the game  I wonder how this would feel in a doom-like setting with heavy metal instead of a peaceful farm! good fun.

Slime Farm by pinapl 2023-01-09T09:48:52Z

Really high polish for just 12 hours of work! the music kicked in only on the second cycle for me which was unfortunate due to just how good that tune is! really enjoyed the strategy of watching the market and trying to anticipate what might still be hot when it finishes growing. sfx and littel slime ball jiggle animations were all absolutely on point.
