Pretty fun, but it gets annoying once you've bought one of everything. It takes forever to get enough to buy anything, as you get a set amount of money that doesn't increase.

Fun and well-done game!! The way that the cities grow and the spaceships abduct people out of individual apartments works really well. I like all the mechanics in there, but the balance could be tweaked to make it more exciting. Upgrades took a really long time to get, and I never really came close to dying or running out of people.
Thanks for the game, make in time. I moved everywhere but I can't stop alien :-(
Wow, that was fun! I love missiles, they are so cool :) Also, the animation of humans being harvested is hilarious. It would be awesome to have more time for polishing, especially adding sounds. I'd love to see that! I have spent more time in this game than I'd like to admit :) It was fun.
Cool game, I like how you combined tower defence and being able to shoot UFOs yourself. The way cities expand is cool as well. As others have said, the cost of upgrades could be tweaked
Those missiles look super satisfying. I enjoyed playing the game! Got overwhelmed after a while, my defenses and shields could not hold against what felt like a hundred enemies lol. Things went from "I'm going to max out my pop soon" to "aw shit it's over" real fast :D
That was pretty fun ! I like the way that each square gets light off when they get abducted haha.
As the time pass, UFOs are increasing and they are just too much to handle with our current upgrades.
On the overall, I enjoyed it a lot ! Good job on this entry ! :tada:
Haha, yeah, I was joking in the last hour of development that the game feels too easy right up until it feels impossible. It definitely needs a balance pass. The truth is that I didn't get a chance to do an entire playthrough until after the game was submitted. I just didn't have any time to spare.
Thanks for the feedback, guys!
@matinat I had this issue until I realised it uses mouse click to fire, or space to jetpack.
@justin-c Really good game, I enjoyed it a lot. The art is good (growing buildings, missiles) but the difficulty should be balanced better. It is very boring at the beginning ( not a lot of enemy,, nothing to buy for a while) but passed 1ktime it's suddenlty unplayable bc of how you are surrounded by flying saucers.
Except that part it was very nice to play 5/5 fun game!
Nice work! It's funny seeing the little people flying up out of the buildings. If I could change anything, I would make the city areas closer together so there is less panning back and forth looking for new UFOs.
Gameplay loop is solid, flying feels very good, so do shooting
At first I didn't like the slow projectile speed, but it grew on me. I think it fits the game, it pushes you to rely on static defenses more and it forces you to run around the map, good choice!
I think with even little monotone beep and boop sound effects this game would level up, they really make a huge difference.
I thought the windows lighting up as a representation of building health was perfect, it tied in directly with the theme that the people were being abducted so fewer lights will be on when they're removed. Great example of diegetic information instead of a hud or something.
Really glad I played :)
The game os pretty good, I liked the way camera works and ability to fly. It's also nice that you have to choose between defence and city upgrades. Difficulty on other hand could use some tweaks. Maybe UFOs should spawn more frequently or health and people shouldn't regen because it's very hard to lose
I really liked the core concept and execution. Even though there was no sound I really enjoyed playing all the way through over a thousand "threat" points. It got quite crazy with the amount of UFO's at that point. :D
If you added some additional mechanics this could turn out to be quite an addictive little game.
Very fun and enjoyable experience!
Hit almost 6,000 points! Some things I might recommend if you continue to build further:
- Indicators on the edges of the screen showing that a city is being attacked so you know to go defend it if you're busy shooting at other invaders. - The ability to either pick up or sell things you've placed on the ground. - Health bars/indicators over the enemies so you can see how much more damage is needed to kill them, especially since the bullets have long travel times. - The ability to upgrade your character's gun.
Great entry!
As others mentioned, it definitely needed a balance pass. I didn't even get to the part that others said was impossible. I just assumed the game never ramped up the flying saucer spawn rate, so I didn't see a reason to keep playing. The money build rate didn't feel like it ramped up fast enough for the amount I spent on upgrading the cities.
Still, a fun little game!
Thank you for the game! I really liked your take on the theme -- almost all other games are about you doing the harvesting, but in this one you are the one being harvested!!
I also really liked the huge missile base :-D :-D
I hope that you have the time for working on this more, I think it has a lot of potential. Personally, I would like to have some sort of radar to know where the aliens are. Also, the "mouse-look" movement was a bit too strong.
But overall, I had a lot of fun! I stopped when I got a score of 420! (it looked like the enemies were not getting much stronger than that).
Nice one!
Enjoyed the gameplay a lot! I just got nauseous sometimes because there was nothing in the background to see how fast I was flying :D
Very nice cross of management and sort of bullet hell. I can easily see this become a fun indie game in that genre.
If I were to give one tip I would suggest making your bullets a bit faster? It's very frustrating to run after a UFO and firing at it only for it to more or less outrun your bullets :p
Still, very nice game, I had fun :)
It is a nice game you've made, some animations are cool (the spaceships flying, the guy walking, people flying) City improvments are well done : are buildings made randomly ?
I think it lacks a global objective (like survive for 10min, or reach a population of 1k, ...) to keep the player focus.
anyway, good game!
@sdelay I prioritize buildings in the center when adding to the capacity, so the cities will look more developed in the center and less developed on the edges.
You're definitely right that having timers is more suitable for a game jam like LD, where most people will only play your game for 5-10 minutes and they really like having an end in sight. But I've always been a fan of the classic "keep going until you lose" style games. In this current version it's impossible to survive past about 17 minutes, but that is still longer than most people will play.
HOLY crap this game is so fun! It's a shame you didn't have enough time to add the sound because that would make the experience so much more fun! The upgrades kept me going for a long time. The flying's a bit too floaty too. Overall, really fun game, and good job!
Had quite a lot of fun on this one! I foolishly prioritized the first building and didn't even realize the farthest building to the right existed until far too late.
I liked the simple graphics, especially the city lights representing the people in the buildings. I agree with some of the other people, getting upgrades after the first few slows down to a crawl. Maybe make it so the more people you have, the more money you generate. Otherwise an enjoyable game.
Really frantic button-mashing fun game! Loved the graphics, and the increasing density of incoming aliens. Well done!
I love this game! You've designed a very cool mixture of overlapping mechanics here, and they all work really well together. βUsing the building lighting to indicate good/danger/shielded status was great. All three defenses were fun to build and effective in different ways. I really liked being able to jetpack up into the night sky and pick off UFOs before they got to ground level. The choice to have a wide map so you can't quite see everything works really well and keeps the player moving and paying attention at all times.
The missile launchers that fire straight up before they start seeking is a really cool visual. Having different UFO types is great, and their animations are nicely done. Being able to upgrade cities to expand your population is really smart, and I think that'd be fun to lean into even more if you decide to expand the game later. Managing your HP, citizens, and cash all simultaneously is a lot of fun. So many good mechanics in one jam game - very impressively done!

New high score! Had to play through again :)

Wow! This was really addicting. My mouse hand is hurting a little bit haha!
I loved how it evolved between bullet hell and automation. It was satisfying seeing my cities and defenses grow and rain hell into the sky. I could have kept playing much longer, but I think the enjoyment gains I got early on were beginning to plateau somewhat. That seems like a good opportunity to begin adding new things: stronger enemies, stronger defenses.
One way to speed up the game (not that it necessarily needing it) was reaping more money by destroying (harvesting??) ships, perhaps because "they give you precious metals or technology" or something. Conversely, wealth might have started growing out of control, so I do think you reached a good balance (despite having much time for it). The strength versus the cost of various items never felt unbalanced.
Obviously sound would have taken this to a perfect score, but you got a whole lot in for a solo dev!

Oh wow, I really enjoyed that one! I love tower defense games where you can run around and fight while building. πππ
This was awesome! Felt like a good flash game of old. I wish for more honestly, more buildings to place, more enemies, and maybe a little faster gameplay curve (the beginning of the game stretches a good bit).

Honestly, this was awesome! Well done!
Very cool tower defense game.
So, the first thing I noticed when I started playing is that the mouse moved the camera, and it moved it really, really fast. This kind of made me motion sick, and I thought I was absolutely going to hate the camera for this game, but that is not what happened.
Instead, I ended up thinking the camera controls were pretty dang good. I mean, I guess they are to some degree standard shooter controls (maybe?) but I thought they worked great here, especially in the early game. In particular, although it is true that the camera moves kind of fast, it's also true that the player controls it, and can lock it in place just by avoiding moving the mouse.
This ended up meaning that I was actually having a ton of fun pointing the camera exactly where I needed it in the early game -- I would scan left and right to see if I could see any alien ships, and what's even better, is that I could shoot at them from almost anywhere on the map with quite a bit of precision! Of course, hitting the ships from so far away was not always easy -- it's difficult to predict how much they will move in the time it takes a bullet to get there -- but it was fun to try.
The other tower defense mechanics were fun as well. I ended up building two anti-airs before I built any missiles for some reason, but then when I finally did build a missile, it was super fun to see how powerful it was.
I guess I'm not actually sure what the utility of the anti-airs is, given that the missiles do seem very powerful in comparison, but perhaps the fact that they're cheaper makes them effective for their price...?
But, trying to build up some defenses was pretty fun, and I think the arc of the game ended up working out pretty well too. More specifically: at the beginning, you're kind of on your own, and you can't really stop the UFOs very fast. In the middle of the game, the UFOs come somewhat often, and there are the UFOs that will shoot at you, but your defenses are strong enough that you almost don't have to do anything.
Then, in the end game, everything becomes total chaos, and your defenses are woefully inadequate. No matter how invincible you feel in the mid game -- there's just nothing you can do here.
As my final strategy I did try to just spam the city upgrades to buy myself a couple more humans. I think that perhaps I should have tried to buy them earlier.
I do think that there is possibly some real strategic depth there. In particular, it seems like the only two factors you can really affect in the very end game is how many humans you have currently stockpiled in your cities, and how much you can reduce the rate at which the UFOs are grabbing them. I think there's quite a few strategies to explore in terms of building up big cities and keeping them safe in the mid game, especially if you could also get shields to last right up until the end, they could provide some extra seconds as well.
Although, I am not really sure what the score means...? My score was 6993 with 885 humans harvested; I lasted a bit more than 1000 seconds.
Overall, this was a fun game to play through, with a lot of fun variety (e.g. shooting by yourself vs. building towers), and what seems like some real strategic depth. Good job!
Edit: Also, while giving a star rating, I noticed that I think this is the most creative use of the theme I've seen so far. So that's a nice bonus as well.
Oh this one was very satisfying and I really like the mechanic of advancing your city while fighting the aliens. wWell done!
Very fun!
I think having the windows in the buildings showing how many people and which spaces were occupied was a super creative and effective way to show that visually.
Really cool entry!
Was pretty fun, would've been nice to have a faster gold generation the more of the city you upgraded / shielded ( and maybe keep the upgrade theme, by having standard AA guns, that you then upgrade with E like you do with the cities?

this reminds me of a game i played on my calculator! nice work, you can scale this up and it will be a really good game. i felt that i really started to get bogged down longer it played.
Good looking, fun to play game. I would like to see more content tho, because game has a good potential but there are only 3 upgrades as far as I see. Other than that, very solid entry, good job! If you would like to shred some zombies with your tractor in slowmo, be sure to check out my entry, I would appreciate your feedbacks :)
@hayricakir I would love to shred some zombies in slowmo with a tractor.
