oh wow this one's very fun! Quite challenging to get the right combinations while dodging enemies, until at some point the entire map gets flooded with stuff so you can't make good combos anymore so you just throw everything at everyone lol. My first try was 15763

hypernoodlejon 2023-01-09 01:30

Really good vibes here! Quite a challenging game but satisfying to walk through a bunch of resources and get some quick shots off. Enjoyed the different combinations but the speed of gameplay and constantly tracking the enemies meant I never got a good sense of how the different components effected the final projectile. beautiful pixel art as well, the resource sprites are so cute and enemy projectiles are very easy to track. Just overall a very fun game!

Simply fantastic. Charming art, great concept, wonderful game-play. Somewhat ars-magicka-ey while taking a unique and awesome spin on the concept. Final score: 11483. (I suck)

Love it! Only issue I had was that its hard to tell when you've taken damage without looking at your health bar

joey-shipley 2023-01-09 16:12

Great entry! Really enjoy the combo of gathering, crafting, to make the weapons to attack. Would be cool to see this one further developed. :)

Bravo, very interesting games and very well done. Perfect gameplay Good luck for the victory

A very cool game! Pretty intuitive controls, nice first "tutorial" enemy. Great music and feel! A few suggestions:

- The game is obviously very fast-paced and it is hard to be strategic about what types of weapons you're going to use, you spend most if the time just dodging the bullets. Maybe the bullets should be slower, or maybe there needs to be a way to heal? - Sometimes the enemies spawn right next to you and hit you immediately, which is a bit sad :) - Speaking of dodging the bullets again, the room felt a bit too small and the enemies a bit too fast. At some points is seemed like I've no option other than just making circles dodging the bullets and not letting the enemies to get close, and I'd occasionally shoot if I happened to step on enough weapons. So, maybe increasing the room size would make it better? Or maybe even add obstacles and stuff.

captaindreamcast 2023-01-09 20:25

My best run was 16784, I feel I got the hang of it now, combine stuff into useful weapons when there are few items lying around and fire junk as fast as possible when the screen is cluttered, that was my final go-to strategy.

From the title screen with the cute main character I loved this game. Very polished presentation, beautiful art and music and a very addicting fast-paced gameplay loop. Every time you finish a round you immediately have to start playing again to get an even better score. Really amazing all around, great job!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it goes a long way in improving all of my projects :3

@lisyarus Yeah, I noticed quite late that there were a lot of balance issues that needed to be addressed. The game was actually originally much, MUCH harder than this. I toned it down a lot in the final hour. If I had a bit more time I'd definitely look into some sort of healing or permanent upgrades as the waves progressed.

mad-brokli 2023-01-10 05:28

Fantastic music and sound effects! I really liked the theme of the game though I think it would be good if the enemies fired a bit slower or if the room was larger since it can get a bit hard to dodge their shots while navigating towards the items. Looking forward to seeing where you take this, the combos got my hyped!

streq 2023-01-10 13:06

Amazing entry! very well polished look, great audio and music, and honestly really fun! specially once the player familiarizes themselves with the ammo outputs.

My only real criticism is that I would've liked a way to heal the player, even if it's a really scarce pickup, because as it stands, early mistakes motivate the player to just restart the game, as there's no way to get health back.

And also, this isn't really a criticism but a suggestion if you intend to keep working on the game (which I would!)

- have you considered having 2 item crafts, or even 1 item crafts? they would of course be weaker than the 3 type ones, but they would give ammo in a pinch! I wouldn't really know if this makes the game better though, only testing it would :)

I'd also consider @lisyarus comment about making the bullets/enemies slower to make crafting ammo easier, and not something you stumble upon while running for your life!

kiberptah 2023-01-10 16:41

Very nice game, feels quite polished for a game jam! I have little neat picks about font and UI, but it's all minor things. Gameplay is fun and chaotic in a good way!

yogurtthehorse 2023-01-10 16:45

A nice cute game! I liked the idea of puzzling of your weapons and sound effects. They are nailed, actually. Only complain I can tell you is in effects. You have very cool pixel art, but all of these animations are kinda too much for such tiny pixels :)

(But that's very subjective, the game is still very cool)

nikitavychuz 2023-01-11 16:13

I like this a lot! The pixel art is nice to look at and the sound design is punchy. My only complaint is the amount of unused scraps laying around after a bit - it hides the enemies and makes it harder to combine new recipes intentionally.

reivilibre 2023-01-12 19:52

Fun, polished and good music and art. However agreed with some other commenters that it's hard to be strategic about the material pickups (and especially in my case I didn't even know what I should have been aiming to pick up).

As a note, I had to change keyboard layout otherwise WASD was in the wrong place (I was using the web version if that's related). I haven't had to do that for other games, so I wonder if the input mapping is a bit 'off'.

Well done!

cogcomp 2023-01-12 20:42

This is definitely my favourite game so far! (I've played over 30 compo games at this point). Great idea having to scavenge together weapons from parts. It adds a great sense of discovery to the game and the tempo was perfect for me. This is already a good game. It really has potential. Well done!

dacs 2023-01-13 04:25

The game is really fun, and it has the best graphics i've seen thus far, i enjoyed playing it and give it a 10/10, congrats!

scolondev 2023-01-14 19:38

@streq Ooo, 2 item or 1 item crafts would be very interesting and make surviving a bit easier, since you'd be able to more immediately respond to threats. I'll keep that in mind for the future :o

@nikitavychuz Yep, that's another balance issue I didn't have too much time to address. I'd probably want to make the crafts a bit more impactful so you need less components to handle each individual combat.

@yogurtthehorse Heh, yeah I've been working a lot on refining my art style to find a good balance between effects, visual feedback, and gameplay. I don't want anything that's too intrusive to the gameplay loop but I do want it to feel juicy. I think I'm almost there though!

As always, thanks for the feedback everyone :D. The comments are always the best part of these jams <3

profundity 2023-01-15 00:15

I'm impressed. Charming art, solid audio, very fun core gameplay really cool little game - it mostly makes me wish their was more, which is about the best thing a jam game can do. As far as pacing, I actually didn't mind that it was on the frantic side - but this became an issue for me when there started to be enough scrap on screen that it would all be in little overlapping piles, which made going for matches almost impossible. So I ended up falling back on just sprinting around willy-nilly until I heard the sound cue telling me I could fire, going for quantity over quality.

lone-wolf 2023-01-15 05:56

This is a fun, well rounded entry, with a small bump on the audio section (The audio for this was perfect).

I like the unique interpretation of the theme, and the gameplay was pretty quick to pick up on, but I'm unable to beat the score I got when I first started playing and had no clue what I'm doing. (I'm glad I took a screenshot, it doesn't look like you have a highscore tracker?)

One suggestion I have would be to make the enemies more distinguishable from the loot, on my first run I think I lost some hp trying to stuff the first enemy into my pockets (yes, the same run I somehow highscored on)

If this was easier/less challenging I would have played for longer. But I can't stand the smug look on the face of first-try me every time I compare my consistent measly score of 3-4k with their 6.8k. They asked me to tell you "Great work!" :P Saturday_14-09_20.png

Hey there, this was pretty awesome! I ended up playing your game on stream!

Here's the VoD so you can jump to your chapter! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYvmJ8_8kww

verttixpertti 2023-01-19 11:27

Really great. Just needs some way to heal as many have pointed out.

mikyokyuji 2023-01-25 09:04

It’s fun and of amazing quality! I like the detail that the main character’s sprite flips when a player change the direction of movement.

madbeagle 2023-01-26 11:22

The best compo game I've played so far, polished in all aspects. Only minor complaint is as a non-PC gamer the keyboard & mouse controls were tying me up in knots, a version with dual thumb-stick gamepad controls would be even more fun.
