LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Watery Crave by Zathnic 2021-04-28T18:39:21Z

A very nice game! Found it quite challenging, though, and got stuck at a place where I can't proceed without hitting the red thing that kills you. The controls felt weird yet very smooth, the atmosphere is very nice. Great job!

TRENCH by dirkinz 2021-04-29T16:51:07Z

A very cool puzzle game! The mechanic is super interesting, loved it. Would be nice to have some music & sound effects to improve immersion. Sadly, couldn't make it past the 3rd level (admittedly I am pretty bad at puzzles). Great job!

Space?Space!SPACE by Meta-link 2021-05-04T21:31:06Z

Nice graphics! Liked the controls, using two separate sets of arrows simultaneously was a bit difficult but very fun. The dame would definitely benefit from having music & sound effects. Nice job!

Buried Deep by masterkrepta 2021-04-26T12:41:05Z

Nice & simple game. Would love to have better graphics & some sounds. The jetpack felt a little too slow for me. The drill doesn't work on the tiles right where you spawn which feels a little confusing (I thought it is a bug at first). Managed to find all 7 miners, but it would probably be more fun to have some clues or hints on where they are. Anyways, nice job!

Midniight by Ace17 2021-04-30T16:37:42Z

Interesting game! A little strange to pack both windows & linux version to the same archive - I downloaded the Linux version and got confused with the plethora of DLL's at first. The game is one of the few in this jam that really set some mood & feeling & atmosphere, mostly by background music I guess. The controls could be a bit more smooth, the interaction between jumping & stairs & falling to the side was a bit confusing at times. Anyways, great job!

Knight With A Gun by Kobi Hawk 2021-04-29T16:40:22Z

Nice game! Pretty satisfying when you start shooting really fast. The direction of shooting is too random, though, and makes it very hard to aim precisely. Maybe a larger game map would be more fun as well, with some features on it (e.g. obstacles and stuff). Anyways, fun game, good job!

Puzzle blast by stmatn 2021-04-26T11:02:03Z

An interesting puzzle! Was a little confusing at first - it isn't obvious to me that the hints show relative position of items (I thought the hints say that I should exchange those items or smth like that), but figured it out. Gets hard pretty quickly, with a 4x4 board you really start to need pen & paper to lay out all the possibilities. Reminds me of sudoku-type puzzles. Nice job!

DD-7 - Underwater Exploration by James Gillespie 2021-04-27T17:57:40Z

Nice entry! The controls felt a bit clumsy, I'd personally love it to be faster and more responsive. Cool graphics and concept, nice job!

The Descent by iovorobiev 2021-04-26T10:21:48Z

Unfortunately I couldn't play it: I'm using Linux and running the game via the Wine emulator - the dialogues don't show (but I could skip them by pressing Enter), but then when the puzzle starts the arrow keys don't do anything, the tiles don't move. This is most probably an emulator issue, but maybe I was just doing the wrong thing? Anyways, I'll happily play a Linux build if you make one!

Delve Inc. by jacobturn 2021-04-26T13:02:08Z

Unfortunately, couldn't figure out what am I supposed to do. Tried to press the mentioned buttons but nothing happened.

Robo Delve by Thalikoth 2021-04-26T09:30:09Z

Agree that it's a little confusing finding that .7z archive, maybe add a direct link to it? You can add a separate link to source code in your game post. The concept is nice, I'd say the graphics needs some work and it would be cool if the rope would bend over obstacles (instead of going straight through them) like in e.g. the Worms game. Anyways, good job!

Fallumns by Logan 2021-05-03T12:40:59Z

Truly incredible game! The depth is definitely there, loved it. The only drawback I'd mention is that as soon as you realize the depth of the game, you start perceiving it less as the traditional tetris-like game and more like an exploration game, i.e. you lose motivation for getting more score points & want to go deeper and explore the levels. Apart from that, amazing job!

FlickWest by wolderado 2021-04-26T09:16:13Z

An incredible concept! Couldn't find other players as well & the room creation menu was just slightly confusing since you don't know beforehand that you can play with bots. I'd say the aiming mechanic needs some explanation & more visual markers - it isn't completely clear to when exactly can you click, whether you can be late for clicking, etc. In one of the rounds after some shooting & only 1 enemy left I still had two aiming markers - one on the enemy, and one somewhere mid-air, and I wasn't able to shoot into the enemy.

Nevertheless, fun game, good job!

Descent into Madness by danvil 2021-04-27T18:21:49Z

Unfortunately wasn't able to run it - I'm on Linux using the Wine emulator, the game shows Unity startup screen, then a bright-red screen with some Unity loading bar, and then it exits. Probably an issue with the emulator + Unity interaction, though. Maybe I'll try later on a Windows machine!

Micanthul by alexhall 2021-04-27T18:14:23Z

A very promising game! Nice concept, graphics & theme interpretation. Would love to see more actual gameplay (more that just 3 buttons, that is) - battle tactics, maybe move your party on an actual map, etc. Anyways, good job!

Vertigo by GaryS 2021-05-01T07:18:47Z

Very nice game! One problem is that sometimes there's no way you can survive because there the land piece you're standing on is too wide and the next one is too narrow, so you can't jump from the first to the second. I didn't realize it at first but the enemy mechanics is pretty clever. Nice touch with the statues as well. Great job!

Drilling Rig by Bitheral 2021-04-26T10:55:31Z

A promising concept! Would love to have some kind of "score" or "money" that you'd spend on upgrades or just have that number out there, since right now you're pretty much just aimlessly digging dirt & stone. Loved that you can put lights, that was a nice touch! Maybe add an actual lamp object as well, I think it would look more natural this way. Anyways, good job!

Deepsea Alchemy by Hugimugi7 2021-05-01T08:39:19Z

The concept & mechanics are really, really cool. Sadly, the amount of text and the fact that it slowly appears letter by letter, made the game almost non-playable for me. 20 minutes in-game and I barely did anything interesting, most of the time just waiting for the text to finish so that I could skip it, just to get another piece of text to wait and skip. I see that you've put a lot of work in this text for creating a certain atmosphere; I'd advise to use other, more effective atmosphere-creating means (like music) first, and then concentrating on the narration. You could make the text skippable for impatient players like me, e.g. add a button that immediately shows the next mission objective, and maybe add a way to skip the tutorial completely. I'd still suggest cutting on the text a little - e.g. there were 3 (if I'm not mistaken) pages about packages being stuck and that the player would receive a notification on that and that he should keep an eye on that. All that seems completely unnecessary to me: players know that if something pops up on the screen, it's probably important; and they'll quickly learn about this notifications as soon as the first one appears. So, let the players play & expore, they're very good learners.

Anyways, the game clearly has potential, the mechanics are super cool and I'd love to give it another try at some point.

Btw, I noticed a lot of `tilemap_get() - couldn't find specified tilemap` and `Too many manifolds in collision` messages in the logs, hope this helps!

Lava Escape by Balduvian Dead 2021-04-26T13:00:07Z

Nice simple game! The digging mechanics felt awkward at first but got used to it pretty quickly. However, it just becomes a game of hitting the right button out of three, which tends to become dull after a bit of time. Nice touch to have procedural levels (are they procedural? I think they are). Sometimes after switching to the next level the player somehow gets left behind and I can't do anything after that - lava is advancing, the controls don't work & the player doesn't die. Anyways, good job!

Dig Deeper and Deeper by leviathon 2021-04-26T10:46:58Z

A very unusual game! Liked the concept. The upgrades in the shop felt a little confusing (like, what exactly is "spring"?). The drill circles felt too bouncy & sometimes didn't destroy a tile upon impact (and sometimes did), which complicated precise aiming. Anyways, fun game, good job!

Bumpysphere by bassguitarbill 2021-04-27T17:44:55Z

Nice game! Found the controls a little hard (that you select a direction & move instead of [A]/[D] doing the movement, as usual), and the hook was a little weird to control, too (sometimes it would expand and then retract, and it's inconvenient to have to press two buttons for it to grab something, I think it would be nice if it grabbed stuff automatically). Somewhat frustrating that enemies can shoot through the terrain, that's how I got killed while trying to grab the golden chest. The music is nice & calm, the art is fantastic, loved it. Nice job!

Abyss Asylum by Dmitry Kaidash 2021-05-04T20:45:42Z

Incredible. The atmosphere & mood are definitely here, and fits the theme perfectly. The only downside is that it is sometimes hard to see what's coming because stuff is behind the players body. Overall an amazing game, wonderful job!

Hey, Wake Up! by SeaFishelle 2021-05-01T07:53:03Z

Nice little game! Would be fun to have some objects that you'd have to avoid. I too faced the situation when the only energy can was so far up that I didn't have a chance but to lose. I played the web version and it lags noticeable when you pick up an item. Anyways, fun game, good job!

Deep into the mine by BubakGames 2021-04-26T09:58:37Z

A simple & nice concept. Would be cool to have a visual indication of impact when you hit the enemy. A larger view box would also help, since right now it's a little hard to navigate around. Got down to 186m. Nice job!

Mined mines by Alexey Kuzovkov 2021-05-03T11:44:47Z

Really nice game! The combination of block digging & minesweeper is pretty smart. For some reason I completely forgot how minesweeper works and I thought that the numbers were the distance to the closest bomb, which made me seriously confused at start, but figured everything quickly, so probably it isn't a big problem. Concerning the theme - it doesn't really feel like going deeper, you just have a fixed map to clear and that's it. Sound effects would definitely improve the experience. Overall, a cool game, enjoyed it, great job!

2021-05-03-143923_574x557_scrot.png

Compulsive Diggers by Rolly 2021-04-26T11:12:51Z

Incredible game! Hard to keep the dwarves from diyng, though. Maybe add an indicator above each dwarf about what he needs/wants to do, like "get to the surface" or "dig down" or "eat", etc. Sometimes they'd just wander around without digging anything, getting up the ladders but then ignoring the path to the surface, jumping down & dying. Anyways, fun game, great job!

Deep Delivery by pvp 2021-04-30T16:21:18Z

Really nice concept, has a lot of potential! I'd say controls need a bit of work: the left-right movement felt painfully slow to me, and I didn't initially realize that you need to keep pressing the up key (as opposed to just hold it) in order to move up, so I spent several minutes really frustrated about what am I supposed to do. Anyways, good job!

Chicken Robot on Mars by Koroshi 2021-04-27T20:21:15Z

Nice game! Wasn't able to reach the 4th room, always dying on the spikes. That you can't really do anything about them except memorizing feels a bit unfair. The style & art are lovely, the controls feel smooth, and overall the game looks fun, good job!

Caverns by Gossian 2021-05-04T21:23:06Z

Interesting concept. Are the background images hand-painted or generative? I'd say it would be better to have more clues for the player about the level's shape. I ended up just blindly jumping everywhere until I somehow got to the target. Anyways, nice job!

Btw, I was playing the Linux version - buttons in main menu sometimes don't react when you click, apart from that everything works fine.

The Rabbit Hole by NuclearRedeye 2021-05-04T21:36:23Z

Nice to see minecraft-style textures and doom-style raycasting, but it really doesn't fit the labyrinth idea, it's pretty hard to navigate here (small screen escalates it even more). Anyway, good job writing your own raycasting engine, that's a nice experience!

Extreme Deep Sea Fishing! by Sbug 2021-04-26T15:30:29Z

A very cool game! Movement feels a little sluggish at first but gets pretty satisfying after upgrades. I'd suggest adding some static background, since it's hard to navigate when you're alone in the water with no reference to compare speed to. Maxed the oxygen tank upgrade just to get really deep and see if there's something interesting there, was satisfied to meet a large shark, although it damaged me severely and I couldn't make it to the surface. Anyways, great job, well done!

Flower Finder by Retrisma 2021-04-26T10:31:51Z

Incredible game! Loved how it slowly got more difficult, reached room 11 with score 14. Those spikes - I initially thought they are a new type of flower and jumped directly on them :D The boulders felt a little harsh but still fun. One thing I noticed was that even though I was constantly dying and restarting without any progress, the boulders frequency was advancing fiercely, as if it didn't take into account that I wasn't making progress. Not sure if that's a bug, but difficulty should probably be dependent on your progress? Anyways, loved the game, great job!

Physics Breaking Boxes by Temulgeh 2021-04-26T20:01:07Z

Awesome puzzle game, loved it! The "going deeper" mechanic is cool, maybe could go a few levels deeper :) The puzzles are ingenuously designed, the transition from one to the next is incredible. Amazing job!2021-04-26-225929_587x583_scrot.png

Space Dwarf by DesertMaw 2021-05-04T21:15:06Z

Pretty nice game! On the graphics side I'd say you could use bigger voxels, since voxel models with that resolution look more like high-res polygonal models with a ton of aliasing and less like voxel models. Also noticed some z-fighting on the terrain top faces. The enemies seem not to be really smart and start to be a problem only when they're everywhere, and up to that point you can mostly kill them from a safe distance. The gun seems to aim at the point above ground where I'm pointing at, making precise aiming a little confusing (my expectation would be that the bullets would fly exactly where I told them to). Found a bug when I for no apparent reason would get a higher vertical coordinate and could escape the level bounds, and also couldn't proceed since the bullets fly above the enemies without hitting them (see the screenshot). Finally, concerning the theme - it doesn't really feel like going deeper, you're just going to another level. Anyway, there's a lot of work put into this entry, good job!

To The Planet Core by Corporation 2021-04-29T17:18:05Z

An incredible game! Very nice & engaging mechanics, loved it. The graphics could be a bit better, and music & sounds would definitely improve the experience. Nevertheless, great job!

Voice Warm-up by Effarek 2021-04-27T17:55:05Z

Really cool interpretation of the theme! The gameplay reminds me of gym training in GTA. It seems that you could basically go through the game just constantly pressing the spacebar, so I'd say the gameplay could be somewhat more involved. Anyways, nice job!

Asteroid's Ahead: Double Trouble by AR Borno 2021-05-01T07:41:34Z

Promising game! The controls are a bit weird, though - you can't move left/right when you're falling down, and acceleration seems to just immediately set you velocity to going upwards, while a more physical (and natural & intuitive) way would be to increase the velocity with time (like in Newton's second law). I didn't notice the shop completely - white text on a bright-yellow background isn't a good idea :( Anyways, congrats on submitting a finished game, good job!

Khazads by vsi- 2021-05-01T07:05:13Z

A nice game! The fade transition to setting menu or to the game start felt a bit slow. There's a little bug in the settings menu: the starting volume level is 0 but the slider is located in the wrong place, and also the volume slider doesn't fade into black when you exit this menu. It would also be nice to have a text that tells the player that it's the volume slider :)

Concerning the game itself, it would be nice to have some attack animation/effect so that the player can see the attack range. Runes on the floor are a nice touch, but they are barely visible, maybe you could make them glowing? The stone walls have pretty much the same grey color as the ground, and it was a little confusing trying to distinguish them at first.

The maze level felt a little off because the view area was too small, so that when you move too much stuff moves on the screen (like looking through a window in a fast-going car), which is slightly painful to the eyes. I think this could be fixed by simply using the same camera as in the first & third levels.

The game overall felt a bit too easy (and short, but that's completely understandable for a jam!), and the boss fight didn't really feel like a boss - the crossbow allowed you to just unleash tons of bolts onto the enemies while dodging their arrows. The UI sometimes overlapped with enemies, which made it a little hard to aim.

Anyways, nice entry, enjoyed it, good job!

Dwammings by Eden Shazar 2021-04-27T18:43:23Z

Lovely graphics and nice concept! I'd say the UI and player controls could be a bit better, right now it is too easy to misclick a dwarf or get all of them trapped deep, and while you're selecting a job for one dwarf they all have already fallen down. Anyways, great job!

Pale Dwarf Adventures by SinusQuell 2021-04-26T12:23:53Z

A very nice game! Returning to the surface for upgrades feels a bit slow as you go deeper, but this forces you to plan your tunnels, which is fun. Jumping 2 tiles exactly is a clever decision - not too high but still allows for maneuvering. Would love to have an ability to build some ladders/walkways. Great job!

The Way to Survive by HerryFabien 2021-04-27T20:01:09Z

Nice game! Strong Age of Empires vibes. Would be nice to explain what exactly do various building do. It would also be cool to have the workers automatically return to the warehouse & then search for resource again (you know, like in Age of Empires :D). Unfortunatelly, the game freezed at some point (I was playing the web version), so I couldn't progress. Anyways, promising game, great job!

Tom's Twist by TheBlindEye 2021-05-01T07:31:46Z

Nice game! Agree with others that it is sometimes not really clear what to do, maybe some hints would help. There are lots of bugs with the shadows, notably it seems to use something like cascaded shadow maps but the transition between cascades is wrong (see the screenshot - the circle of cascade transition is clearly seen on the left window). Tree LODs felt a bit awkward as well - they change to low-LOD too soon, and why would you use LODs for such low-poly models anyway? Nevertheless, fun game, enjoyed jumping around and kicking the ball, good job!

Project Achelois by DzejPi 2021-04-26T09:45:38Z

A nice concept! The start was a little confusing - e.g. initially I thought I should control the ship, and then when the nuclear drill was heating it looked like nothing was going on for a while, until I noticed the color change. Maybe add some progress bar indicator for drill startup, so that it's blindly obvious that stuff is happening? I too was exploring for about 10 minutes and didn't find anything, the last objective was deep down & I couldn't make it there (maybe I just failed to find a passage?). Overall I'd say the game could be a little more dynamic. Anyways, good job!

Deep In Time by Kitsomo 2021-04-27T17:17:32Z

Nice idea! The tutorial is hard to find & hard to read, since you haven't gotten used to the controls and keep falling down & skipping the tutorial text. I found the game quite harsh, sometimes I even wan't able to tell what exactly killed me (looked like some rocks falling from above), couldn't even finish the first level. The black holes don't show up on the minimap, so it's virtually impossible to dodge them unless you just remember where they are. Anyways, nice job!

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-27T18:28:25Z

A very cool game! Would be nice to have the terrain filled with more detail, and maybe highlight available moves for the player. Loved the tactical aspect, simple but really fun, great job!

One More Lap! by Harrison Dunn 2021-04-29T17:27:08Z

Fun game! The camera feels awkward at first but I actually liked it, creates a more immersive feeling. Pretty satisfied with my best lap time, but got tired after 50 of them. Great job!

Rainbow Fall by Vitor Barbosa 2021-04-30T16:11:35Z

Nice game! Doesn't really fit the theme as I see it - you're not going any deeper, just proceeding. The mechanics are pretty simple but nice and somewhat innovative, I liked them. Overall it feels like a good finished game, good job!

Kurou's mind fights by NoCymer 2021-04-26T15:56:03Z

Nice concept. I feel that the "going insane" thing could be a little more involved. Fighting is really hard, I didn't manage to kill the second group of enemies (two green slimes) no matter what. I'd also suggest to make the tutorial text larger & use a brighter font color (dark-brown on a dark-brown background is really painful to read). Anyways, nice job!

Deeper into hell by lisyarus 2021-04-26T11:14:30Z

@effarek the levels are procedurally generated, so, yeah, they sometimes look like that. I implemented a system that makes sure all exits are reachable from one another; should've used that for reaching items as well, I guess!

Deeper into hell by lisyarus 2021-04-27T20:22:37Z

@corporation Thanks! Yes, the engine uses sdl2 for OS-specific stuff and OpenGL 3.3 for rendering.

Deeper into hell by lisyarus 2021-04-29T11:36:12Z

@ace17 sdl2 engine gang 🤘 Yep, I shouldn't have made rotation speed reach those ridiculous levels, makes controls quirky. Thanks for playing!

Dark Dungeons and Scary Creatures (DDSC) by Python_B 2021-04-26T20:21:17Z

I don't see an actual executable in the downloadable archive, only the source code. Not sure if that's intended, but most people here probably won't know how to compile it or just won't bother. The code uses Makefiles (people on e.g. Windows or Mac don't usually have `make`), `.tar` archives (again, not the most widespread thing), and links a system-provided `sfml` library, which, again, most people probably won't have. So, building this on Windows or Mac would be a nightmare.

That being said, I love compiling stuff, so I did try it. I'm on Linux, and I already have `sfml` installed. First of all, a few notes on compilation: - You use "cd" to the source directory, but that doesn't work in my system. In general, each line of a Makefile build rule can be executed in a separate sub-shell, and its working directory doesn't persist across lines. [Here's](https://gist.github.com/lisyarus/7a8d10a2cd82abd8010f2e9717221fae) how you could rewrite this Makefile to make it work - You use `ceil` and `floor` functions without including the appropriate `` header. It probably worked on your system because some other standard library headers included `` by themselves, but you can't count on that across platforms. (also they really are `std::ceil` and `std::floor`, but omitting `std` in this case works on most platforms)

Now about the game itself: looks promising, reminds me of Heroes turn-based combat. The interface needs a lot of work, though, and the exact sequence of actions is a little unclear (e.g. when exactly should I press the skill buttons?). Nevertheless, managed to win a few fights and go deeper before I was killed. Anyways, nice job!

Kikker Kerker by kleingeld 2021-04-26T09:24:34Z

A nice game! Would love to see it finished & maybe add more variety to levels (obstacles, mazes, ets). Sounds are awesome, especially when you throw enemies out of the map. Great job!

Rope Down by Wunarg 2021-04-26T10:06:28Z

Loved the concept! Reached a depth of 418m. The movement felt a little too slow, but still fun. I'd say that some sound effects would be cool, since I didn't even realize that some things were decreasing my HP :) It is also possible to just fall down most of the time, ignoring enemies & traps completely, so maybe the level generation needs more work. Anyways, great job!

Robo-Driller by Famicon80 2021-04-26T15:49:46Z

Nice game with classical mechanics! Liked how the robot can hold on to cliffs and how jumping is implemented. Good job!

Can You See The Flame by LambMakesGames 2021-04-27T19:52:31Z

A very nice game! Gameplay isn't that involved but still nice to jump through that creepy world. Better graphics would probably make the game much more immersive. Anyways, good job!

Space Drill by FurGoose 2021-04-26T13:14:10Z

Fun game, simple understandable mechanics. Would be nice to have a larger resolution, since right now it quickly becomes painful to the eyes when moving quickly. Anyways, nice job, congrats on completing your first jam!

Marble Maze: Descent by Ohmikron 2021-05-01T06:42:53Z

Interesting game! Mechanics are nice, levels are well-crafted. The "next level" button doesn't work - always moves you to the 1st level. The camera is really awkward at times: sometimes it is too far from the ball so you can hardly see what's happening; sometimes the ball is e.g. at the right edge of the map, and if you tilt to move, the place where the ball was rotates significantly, which distract you from concentrating on the ball; sometimes the camera rotates 90 degrees around the vertical axes with the tilt directions staying the same, which further confuses the player; sometimes parts of the level cannot be seen because another thing is in front of them. Overall, I'd say the camera really needs some work; apart from that, fun game, good job!

Into Conflict by C4Scar 2021-04-30T16:53:16Z

First advice: don't put "sorry for a wall of text" into your wall of text, you're only making it bigger :) Interesting concept, I always love a global strategy when I see one. The interface needs a ton of improvements: what exactly happens on the screen feels confusing, half of the map is covered by the UI, and it isn't even clear what color the player is at first. Apart from that, with some tutorial that explains all mechanics in detail I believe this could be made into an interesting game!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Escape The Unstoppable Gooey Blob by OddballDave 2022-04-06T16:51:03Z

Incredible game, loved it! Unique idea (almost jealous I didn't come up with something like that :D), satisfying shooting controls, fun to mess around. There are a few things that I would change, though. The rockets launched by bazooka seem to acquire player's speed at launch, so they'll move in a direction other than where the player was aiming. No other type of weapon seems to do this, so this leads to some awkward inconsistency. In general I think it's best to avoid this type of velocity transfer for games where you move around a lot. Secondly, the green blobs shrink when you hit them, making them harder to destroy (smaller hitbox), which leads to frustrating situations where you've been shooting at an area for a long time yet didn't actually kill anything. Maybe this could be avoided by tracking blob hitpoints separately from growth size, and indicate hitpoints somehow (e.g. low-health blobs are reddish in color). Of all the weapons I found only the laser blade to be able to consistently kill the blobs and almost win indefinitely, but I had to click the mouse like 5-10 times per second which makes your finger tired in about 10 seconds :) This leads to my third suggestion: maybe the player attacks automatically (with some weapon-dependent period) if the left button is pressed? Overall a cool & addictive game, fun growth mechanic, enjoyed the game a lot!

P.S. I tried the Linux version first (since I'm using, well, Linux) and it crashed my window manager (xmonad, to be precise). It's actually the first time I've seen something cause it to crash and I have absolutely no idea how this could happen. The Windows version worked just fine under the Wine emulator.

The volcano woke up ! by Yamzho 2022-04-04T16:42:30Z

A very nice game! I only lasted 15 turns. Couldn't figure how exactly fire spreads, i.e. does it spread randomly, does it spread from burning non-forest tiles, etc. Nice art and sounds, simple but fitting. Great job!

Crazy plant lady. by limered 2022-04-06T11:02:45Z

Nice game idea! Love how it descends from a peaceful leisurely pastime to a complete madness. Lovely plant models, although the ones with many thin leaves produce a ton of aliasing & flickering, maybe you'd need to turn AA on and/or use textured transparent leaves instead. The shadows looked a bit wonky, probably increasing shadow map resolution & playing with shadow bias would fix that. I'd also suggest highlighting the plants when you mouseover them, would make fast-precision-moving-plants-around thing more satisfying and less frustrating (especially when you misclick!).

Quite a depressing story, good job!

Damaged by marvalgames 2022-04-05T08:47:51Z

Looks like a promising game! I went through 3 rooms, killed all the enemies, and couldn't figure what to do next. There were many closed doors, am I supposed to open them somehow? Dashing absurdly increases your speed, not sure if this is a bug or not. Enemies' right hands seem to be pointing at the player even after their death, leading to some flicker in animation (looks like they alternate between lying on ground and pointing to player each frame). For some reason I couldn't start moving until some 5-10 seconds into the game, when an enemy approached me (again, not sure if this is a bug).

Battery Low by smilewood 2022-04-06T18:29:55Z

A nice, unusual entry! The idea is solid and can definitely be turned into a proper game. As you've already written in the description, audio would be a huge improvement. Movement is a little frustrating, maybe the drone should e.g. move left while the left key is pressed, etc? I got tired of pressing keys repeatedly, especially when I needed to get really far :) A minimap would also help a lot, since it's easy to get lost and lose track of progress. Maybe the minimap would only show already explored areas, for example. Anyways, interesting game, good job!

Shoal by Kerdelos 2022-04-05T15:47:20Z

Incredible game! Such an interesting and unique mechanic, loved it. Wish the fish didn't get stuck at obstacles that often :) Are they using some kind of flocking algorithm?

JUGGERNAUT by cogcomp 2022-04-04T17:44:35Z

An interesting take on the theme! The ship's starting speed feels painfully low, while the speed acquired by hitting enemies feels painfully high :D Also the map collision resolution seems to be absurdly intelligent and always pushes the ship in an appropriate direction so that you can essentially reach the end by literally doing nothing, not sure if this is a bug or a feature?

Anyways, congrats for completing the game with your own C++ engine, glad to see I'm not alone :D Good job!

Wrath of a Dying God by piscythe 2022-04-07T12:52:19Z

Incredible game! Cool mechanics, addictive gameplay. Loved those enormous armies of enemies, I don't recall being actually afraid of something in games for a long time! Tried the strategy of using the Order/Angel ability to spawn troops behind enemy backs to distract them and unleash Smite, seems to work pretty nice but got quite repetitive after many waves. Really wish there was sound, that would make the experience even better. Audio indication of ability recharge would also be cool, since I've found myself moving the eyes constantly from the battlefield to the abilities panel and back, that takes time & energy and is in general a bit tiresome. Overall an amazing game, great job!

P.S. I tried the Linux version and it fails with an error (see the second screenshot). Presumable the executable should be called `WRATHOFADYINGGOD.x86_64` instead of `WRATHOFADYINGGOD-LINUX.x86_64` - I renamed it to the former and it worked nicely after that.

Hyper Keepy Ups Turbo by nanolotl 2022-04-06T17:19:32Z

Incredible game! Nice idea & mechanics. Wish the player could aim with mouse instead of keyboard so that you could move and shoot independently. Some ways of restoring health would also be great. Found the game quite hard, could barely last even a minute. Still enjoyed it, though, great job!

The game looks nice and promising, but similarly to @yukimiitsuka I couldn't find the exit. I tried both fullscreen and not, I seem to be able to move past screen borders but naturally I don't know what's there.

Windtrails by homeworld 2022-04-07T07:28:23Z

The game looks incredible but I couldn't run it properly: I'm using Linux so I had to run the Windows version under Wine emulator, and the game ran at 3-4 FPS :( If you make a Linux build, I'll happily try it!

Catronaut by fatPenguin 2022-04-05T09:29:36Z

Nice game! Loved the art style, cat model especially. The jumping mechanic felt a bit weird: I spent 5 minutes trying to get on the first platform until I realized you can also jump mid-air; jumping on moving platforms later was extremely hard even with that knowledge. Jumping and moving in general felt slightly unresponsive. I think this may be an amazing game if some more work is put into polishing movement, good job!

Blockage by Dis0rder 2022-04-06T19:41:32Z

A very unusual art style, disturbing in a good way (as in to create atmosphere). At first I thought I simply need to find something hidden in the organs and that would be it, was quite satisfied to find a...weapon and a speed upgrade. The gameplay isn't that novel or addicting, but it was fun enough to find and kill all the...things :) Good job!

Wobbly Plankster by mgear 2022-04-05T11:55:46Z

An unusual game! Got to 40k score by constantly pressing space, which, I have to admit, isn't the most satisfying thing to do :D Interesting physics-based mechanics, loved them.

BLACK HOLE DEMISE by fraanns 2022-04-04T19:31:32Z

A nice game! Cool & unusual physics-based mechanics, nice art. I personally have found jumping on those rope-attached blocks extremely challenging, but maybe I just need more practice. Jumping itself felt just a bit unresponsive, as if there was a small delay between pressing the key and performing the jump. It would be nice if you didn't have to press [E] altogether - you could activate checkpoints simply by walking through them, and pick up flowers the same way.

Salary Zombies by Scrawny 2022-04-06T16:27:45Z

Very nice game! It feels that the player doesn't have much control over what he's doing, though, since he can't choose the action, only where to shoot or smack (and the direction doesn't make much difference since there are zombies all around anyway). Maybe if given some ability to choose (e.g. from two random actions) and a larger queue the player would be able to do more long-term planning, making the game more interesting and deep? Anyways, fun game, enjoyed it, good job.

The Inevitable by InappropriateName 2022-04-05T17:01:35Z

Incredible game idea and fun theme interpretation! I thought that completely blocking the way would stop the ship, but it seems to be smart enough and always finds a path. Great job!

Do Your Job! by Thomas Higgins 2022-04-05T14:32:46Z

Nice idea, but the gameplay gets extremely repetitive: you just endlessly move to the coffee machine, to the visitors, and back. Couldn't figure out what the progress bars on the bottom left are, and what do the fridge & cooler do.

Until the end by Sir. Syko 2022-04-06T18:38:00Z

Nice game and idea! I'd say it needs some polishing, though. The controls felt a bit clumsy and lacked inertia. Furthermore, there's hardly any reason to move at all, since this increases your chances of being hit by those balls. After several attempts I tried just staying in the starting corner protected by a platform above and shooting somewhere to the right, and didn't lose any HP at all! So maybe the game needs some actual reason to move. Anyways, nice game, good job!

I'll buy us some time by Lex 2022-04-07T08:21:31Z

I also faced the problem @zack-hd mentioned when obviously successful hits are processed as misses if I selected my weapons with a mouse. Playing with the keyboard worked fine. The core mechanic idea is amazing & novel, truly loved it. A game of personal muscle skill, love that type :) It seems that in the end you always get two enemies simultaneously trying to kill you with no possibility to eliminate them both, which feels really unfair but kind of fits the theme. Good job!

A really unique idea that perfectly fits the theme, loved it. Those smaller muffins following you are a very nice visual touch, albeit a bit distracting. I managed to finish all the levels just hiding in the map corners, so I'd say the game needed more playtesting :D Good job anyways.

Fruitloose by caeonosphere 2022-04-05T18:08:24Z

Snowmageddon by PurpledArtFrog 2022-04-05T14:42:29Z

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-07T07:59:13Z

Nice game, impressive visuals and sound! Loved the punch that you are the 7th unit. Lovely player character model. I'd say camera movement and shooting need some work. The camera view changes way too suddenly at times, presumably when you move out of something that blocked camera view. Very hard to see what's to the side of the player, since the camera always looks forward. Aiming in general is hard as well, because you can't always estimate the height difference between the player and the target, and you can't predict where it is actually aiming. Maybe some crosshair indicator projected on the target would help? Anyways, impressive game, good job.

Gone Out West by Sita 2022-04-04T17:35:59Z

A very nice game idea! Interesting gameplay, although it becomes somewhat repetitive after a while. The tutorial feels a bit overwhelming (you keep reading text & clicking in the hope that you're going to start playing already, but the text goes and goes on), and reading large text on a wide screen is a little bit painful :( The bandit encounters felt a little weird, the horse feels unresponsive making it almost impossible to avoid obstacles. Anyways, nice game, good job!

Spooky Gothic Siege by Kszaku 2022-04-05T09:14:02Z

A very nice, addictive game! Wish hitting the zombie queens (no idea how to call them) showed some effect, since at first I though they're invincible. Spawning 3 queens on one side at early game seems a bit harsh, maybe that needs some balancing. Other than that, great job!

Meteor Power by UkuleleFury 2022-04-06T11:37:38Z

Very nice gameplay idea! Found the controls quite frustrating at first: I thought you'd control the robot with WASD, and WASD was actually displayed in the bottom, but somehow pressing them doesn't move the robot and only highlights the button, of which only A is active and others are disabled, so I guessed you can only move to the left at first, and you need to press A and click to actually move left, etc, you get the idea :)

(I know the controls are written in the description, but I usually only read the description if I can't figure them out, while in this case it _seemed_ that I did figure them out, which was kind of infuriating later)

Maybe just selecting a robot by mouse and then clicking where it should go would be much simpler for the player? I ended up keeping A pressed all the time anyway. Given this controls, and the fact that robots have their own pathfinding (which is great, btw!) it's pretty much impossible and useless to have more than one robot at once. There seems to be a glitch when part of the solar stations' network gets disconnected from the main station: some disconnected stations are highlighted as active, so aren't, which was a little distracting. I didn't realize you can zoom in/out at first, and that background is rendered in a bit strange way when you zoom out. Anyways, I managed to build the solar stations and it seems that the only thing left is connecting them over and over again, since they get destroyed by the meteors, which gets repetitive quickly.

Unfortunatelly, I couldn't really figure out what to do. I've found a key, but nothing happens to the doors: I tried pressing [E] while looking at the door and having the key in my inventory, tried holding the key in the air and pushing it into the door. I also couldn't do the chemical mixing: I think I've found the lab equipment (big black apparatus hidden behind some boxes, right?), but, again, nothing happens if I put flasks on it, in it, etc.

The visuals, sounds & atmosphere in general are very nice, looks like a promising game!

Summer Vacation by roryh 2022-04-06T16:19:29Z

Very nice game! Movement is probably a bit too fast, a small delay between moves would be perfect. I tried several times and still couldn't survive, I ran out of puddles and died from thirst. Not sure if this is intended (after all, this is inevitable?) or bad game balance or I just wasn't performing that good :) Anyways, lovely game, enjoyed it, would definitely play something like this for a long time if it had more content!

Delay the Invasion by Corporation 2022-04-06T11:15:34Z

Sad to say that I tried the game but it was flickering so bad that I couldn't play without my eyes getting hurt :( I was running under Linux with the Wine emulator so problems may be possible, although I've never seen stuff like this with Wine before. My guess would be that VSync / double buffering wasn't set up properly, or the color buffers weren't cleared, something like that. The screenshots look great, I wish I'd be able to play it!

Delay the Invasion by Corporation 2022-04-06T12:20:27Z

@corporation I see. I'm using my own engine as well, which is based on SDL2 for all that platform-related stuff, and I haven't faced any issues with it (apart from some rare Linux-specific glibc versioning stuff that doesn't have anything to do with SDL2 and rendering). I've checked your engine (out of pure curiosity!) and learned that you use glfw, which I sadly don't have much experience with. Anyways, good luck with your game and your engine!

Yarr me shippey by Labete 2022-04-06T12:58:10Z

The idea looks really nice, but it seems that the player has barely anything to do here - the outcome is mostly determined by whether or not one has the required dice. In the first playthrough I was losing morale no matter what, in the second one I got lucky with the dice & won. It's really unclear what various ship actions do (why would I clean it, is it dirty and that lowers morale? or does cleaning lower morale? what does "search" mean? etc). I'd say it's a nice idea but it needs much more actions on the player side. There's probably a bug: after losing the first time, the next day's event appeared right on top the defeat message (see the first screenshot).

The British Are Coming! by Mog13 2022-04-05T10:07:57Z

Looks like a promising game! Clearly a lot of work was put into modelling and level design (although I'd make the ship sail white and thinner, right now it looks like made out of cardboard). Rendering in general needs some tweaking - AA is missing, and shadows look weird at times (looks like undertweaked cascaded shadow maps). It's also hard to see what's going on when you see the whole island and your troops are tiny and occupy just a handful of pixels on the screen.

The gameplay is a bit too slow - you just click and wait until your troops do the trip to the chest and back, with nothing else to do. They also behave weirdly in terms of combat - sometimes they'd attack the enemies, sometimes they won't.

Anyways, looks like a promising game that needs tweaking and balancing, good job!

Smog TD by Zackavelli 2022-04-06T10:10:37Z

Fun and interesting idea, but I'd say it needs balancing. Tower defense games usually start slow, so I was surprised that just buying ~8 simple turrets (for all the available starting money) wasn't enough to stop even the first wave. With support towers I managed to get to wave 7 and lost due to high pollution. The pollution was being generated far more quickly than I was earning money to clear that, which felt a bit unfair, but that balance is what the game offers to master, I guess :) I'd suggest improving the UI a bit: the "start wave" button is still available after you've started the wave which confused me a little (maybe it should only be visible in between waves?), and an indication that you are mouseovering a tile would be nice as well.

Tidal Wave by BjornStahl 2022-04-06T06:32:55Z

What an incredible fresh game idea, loved it! The game definitely needs some tutorial, took me a few sessions to understand what's going on. Still couldn't figure out whether population count affects anything except the loosing condition. Nice minimalist visual style, although in my opinion adding some contrast and colors would hugely improve it. Rendering performance definitely needs some improvements, the thing starts dropping FPS pretty quickly, and in the end I was playing at about 10-15 FPS. I'm no Unity expert, but my guess would be that you're drawing all the balls as separate objects which consumes a lot of time. Instancing should make things much faster. Anyways, loved the game, great job!

Forest Runner by Tharbakim 2022-04-04T17:11:01Z

Truth be told, I got a little confused about this game. Spent about 15 minutes walking here and there with pretty much nothing happening, except for the containers with occasional money & shops. Are the pursuers supposed to appear later? Once when travelling between forests the text said that I found a river & now feel refreshed, but my money dropped from something about 30 to -159, which didn't feel nice at all! Another time I opened a box and my money count became negative as well, though not that low. Needless to say I couldn't use the shops, never having enough money for that.

I liked the map generation, and character controller felt good (although I wish it would also be playable via WASD). Map borders were sometimes rendered a bit strange, though (I've added a few screenshots).

A nice simple game, but the gameplay is a bit repetitive: after you've burnt everything in the house you're basically constrained by how far the closest tree is. Maybe it would be fun if new objects spawned here and there?

All Lines lead to boom by Peter Ondus 2022-04-05T10:28:24Z

The game looks incredibly promising! Loved the idea & mechanics. I tried to catch the bomber with a hacker many times but failed, mostly due to the interface, it is just hard to understand what's going on sometimes.

Berserk by NoobHereo 2022-04-06T17:43:54Z

A promising game with lovely & beautiful art! It lacks a lot, though, the main thing being some attack juice or at least feedback: the player doesn't know when he's hit, when he hits the enemy, etc. Adding some basic effects (like changing sprite colors after being hit) and sounds would already improve that a lot.

Under the Moon by RollCreators 2022-04-06T07:52:13Z

Nice game idea! It's hard to understand what's going on an what am I supposed to do at first, had to do some trial-and-error playthroughs. Didn't really understand how to fix the shield and what upgrading the shield does, the asteroid seemed to always crash on the planet whatever I do. An interesting entry anyways, good job!

Slime Rise by haztro 2022-04-05T14:50:47Z

A really impressive game! The guys seemed to behave a little weird and often just stayed on the scaffolding and died. Took me a while to figure out how everything works, but it was fine. Wish the game session was a bit longer, the slime started advancing like crazy after about 100m. Enjoyed the game, good job!

Brush it Up! by kory 2022-04-06T15:31:46Z

Interesting and truly unique idea, nice touch on the theme! I had issues with the camera as well: sometimes it's really hard to actually move the brush around the required area (and not just put the brush there) from any of the provided angles. Maybe it would be simpler if the player could simply move the camera, without the need for different views? Another solution would be to move the camera automatically based on where's the player pointing at, but I guess that won't be easy to implement in a nice and non-frustrating (to the player) way. Anyways, fun submission, good job!

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-04T18:55:45Z

@sita true, early game is kind of slow, but you can skyrocket if you find a good spot and place many buildings close together!

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-05T13:42:18Z

@schadocalex Sorry for this problem, and thanks for reporting it! Glibc-2.33 was released about a year ago, probably updating your system might fix this. Guess it wasn't wise on my side to stick to a recent version of glibc, I'll update my packaging environment. If you have Wine, you can also try the Windows version :)

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-05T13:49:17Z

@snowycocoon Thanks! I'm using my own tiny C++ engine with almost no dependencies except for a few tiny essential libs, thus the small size.

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-05T17:13:36Z

@zackavelli I'm still extremely surprised people get that far into the game! Really glad you liked it :) You are absolutely right that balance is the main issue here, but as usual I just didn't have enough time to balance it properly.

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-05T17:17:30Z

@fifut Yeah, you can get trapped in low wood/food situation and there's basically no way of recovering, that's a balancing oversight on my side. Thanks for your feedback!

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-07T07:10:09Z

@googlypoo Thanks for your kind feedback and suggestions! Not moving eyes too much is a good thing to think about, I haven't really considered that at all, thanks. There's a shadow behind all text, but I agree that black shadow on a dark background won't make much of a difference. Fast card draw is a result of bad last-minute balancing: I figured that the late game is pretty much waiting for good cards and discarding all others, so I made the cards appear faster. Balancing in 48 hours is...hard :)

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-07T07:14:03Z

@william-corrin Thanks for your input! Panning camera target was a thing I considered but decided to drop in favor of more important stuff. Now that I think about it, simply right-clicking on a tile to focus on it would probably be enough, and is easy to implement. Red text actually signifies the food resource: each resource has it's own icon and text color, I hoped it will make things easier to understand visually. Lesson learned :)

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-07T07:15:10Z

@bucketh3ad Thanks for your kind words! Yeah, the glibc version issue seems to be a common one, I'll definitely have to do something about it.

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-07T13:55:59Z

@polarcube Thanks for your kind words and a thorough feedback! Floating icons become a bit distracting, true; I did reduce their life duration but guess it wasn't enough, should've made them transparent as well. Water becomes light-blue when it's frozen, I didn't have any time to work on water properly so I guessed at least changing it's color during the frozen effect would be better than nothing. Given more time I'd definitely add freezing/melting sounds and better water rendering. The balancing issues you mentioned are all valid and the solutions you outlined are really interesting!

LeapSheep by joselor 2022-04-06T07:00:37Z

A really nice game! That sheep rolling downhill definitely gave me giggles. Unfortunately, I've found this to be the major gameplay issue as well: it's really frustrating to lose control over your character in a fast-paced platforming game! I think something like a button that puts the sheep on its feet and stops rolling would be a game-changer, or anything else to fix that frustration. Another small detail: I wish the "restart" button would be available via keyboard - it's a bit frustrating as well to reach the mouse every time you want to restart.

Anyways, fun game, nice idea, good job!

Living the Dream by darandin 2022-04-06T12:41:43Z

Made it to age 46. About the age of 25 working becomes useless: it exchanges 10 energy for 10 money, and food does the exact opposite, so you end up with a zero-sum loop. I guess this was intended (taking the theme into account), but still would be nice to have some more late-game gameplay.

Doomed Drone Defence by Skyward4d 2022-04-05T11:48:54Z

A very cool game! Managed to get all upgrades and had 40k$ extra. The game progresses in a slightly slow rate at first, but I love how it descends into pure madness after 2 minutes of playing :) Nice decision to make the generator stop the bullets - frustrating a little, but it forces the player to move and not stay in one spot. Found that the best late-game strategy is to simply circle around the generator, shooting in all directions.

Inevitable Dungeon by Surfa 2022-04-05T09:01:10Z

Really nice art and soudns! Solid game idea. I couldn't figure out how to put stuff in the death bag, sadly. The UI was also a bit weird: some windows would close by [ESC] but the game freezes after that; other windows (the inventory) don't close by hitting [ESC]. I felt there were way too many enemies, but considering the death bag mechanic this is fine.

Tick, Tick, BOOM by Petunia Games 2022-04-07T13:58:56Z

Nice game idea! The controls were a bit hard - I often ran into obstacles, was stuck, was pushed by other people, couldn't interact with an object I was standing nearby until I approached it from a right angle, etc, everything with no feedback from the game. Such things are quite frustrating when you're trying to act as quickly as possible :) A fun game overall, good job.

Inevitable Seige by Hawke Games 2022-04-06T15:57:18Z

A fun game! Got a little confused at first, didn't realize you need to use the keyboard for selecting buildings. Nice that money just spawns for you to collect. I tried different strategies and just spamming with arrow towers seemed to be the most effective, so I ended up not using stones (that are quite overpriced, considering they are a single-use item) and that 2-coin-thing. So, I'd say the game needs more balancing (of course that is pretty common for jam games, mine included). Nice game overall, good job!

@fredrik-rosell I've tried restarting the browser (chrome), tried opening an incognito window, and even tried a different browser (firefox), but it keeps staying at 90% :(

Stay Afloat by Fredrik Rosell 2022-04-06T10:54:31Z

@fredrik-rosell I finally figured it out, I had VPN turned on, and without it the game loaded fine! Loved the character, very nice model and animations. The controls feel nice as well, although a jumping and walking sound could improve the feel. Nice idea with underwater platforms, but trying to spot them through water isn't that fun (and definitely a nightmare for color blind people!), maybe there should be some other way to indicate their position? I didn't really see the point of controlling energy distribution, managed to finish the game without using it at all. Nice water rendering, although there were a few glitches here: some looked like overlapping water polygons, some looked like improper normal texture boundaries (as if it's sampling mode wasn't set to REPEAT or smth like that).

Anyways, lovely jam entry, great job!

This heatwave will last all summer by videodotexe 2022-04-06T08:53:50Z

Nice game idea! I'd say the controls need tweaking, I ended up spamming mouse clicks all over the place, would be nice if I could hold the mouse button and move it around. Camera control is a bit weird as well, looks like it is a default spherical camera controlled by latitude/longitude (or any two angles, call them as you wish), so that what happens when you try to move left or right depends on current camera orientation ("left" moves left in one hemisphere and right in the other one). Anyways, fun entry, good job!

God's Rage by LiveInside 2022-04-05T11:26:02Z

Very nice art! Character control feels a bit clumsy, and the jump is waaay to high - you can't see the platform you're going to land on because it doesn't fit in the screen, which makes precision jumping a bit frustrating. Picking up objects is a bit weird as well: it only works if you stand near the object but not exactly behind the object. I've never had the progress bar reach its maximum: I always just died in lava.

Gomma by Tulio 2022-04-05T14:11:40Z

A nice entry! Couldn't really figure out what I'm supposed to do: I enabled the lamps with the excrement, feed the worms with the food, but died eventually. Is there a way to fill back the second progress bar?

Suppress The Press by Frostbiiten 2022-04-07T08:32:41Z

A very nice game! Simple yet polished and fun. Found the movement way too hard due to high inertia, but I guess that's what makes the game challenging. I'd suggesting adding some visual or/and sound indicator when the press is close to reaching you (e.g. an alarm sound and pulsating red something on screen), I died several times just because I was chillingly collecting energy orbs and forgot to check the press state. Anyways, nice game, great job!

GrimTide: Delay the Inevitable by MartinK 2022-04-05T14:03:19Z

A really nice game! The only thing that bug me is that some red cells seem to be indestructible, making it impossible to actually last long enough. The UI isn't super intuitive either, sadly. Loved the concept and gameplay, though, and the art & sounds are really nice, good job.

Beebs Bump by Beebster Games 2022-04-06T15:09:19Z

One Sided Pong by Brandless 2022-04-06T08:44:04Z

Funny take on the theme! One suggestion is to randomize initial ball velocity direction, otherwise you can start the round doing absolutely nothing with the ball moving perfectly in the center of the screen left-to-right-and-back, waiting for the floating-point simulation errors to escalate so that the ball moves a bit up or down.

GrayBox by Ty1rl 2022-04-06T18:10:50Z

Nice game, definitely has a certain spooky mood. I wish the bullet hits were better indicated, though. I managed to score about 70 several times by selecting projectile upgrades the first few times and fire rate next. Sometimes the bullets bounced off the spheres and went far away, which felt quite frustrating since I definitely hit the enemy :) I'd also occasionally get stuck in a...corner? Not really sure, to be honest, but if there's some surrounding map it would be nice to know in advance where you're going. A promising entry overall, good job!

Fart Competitions by PureImprov 2022-04-07T08:06:49Z

An unusual entry, perfectly matches the theme :) Got to about 40s at both levels. The only improvement I'd suggest is highlighting the keys if you're actually pressing the right ones (e.g. green [E] becomes blue if player is pressing [E]), otherwise it's hard to see when keys actually change, and even harder to understand if you're even doing the right thing in the beginning (I pressed the indicated keys but nothing happened, which is quite confusing).

Candler by SunJet 2022-04-06T09:56:46Z

Congrats on your first game jam! Fun & original game idea. It seems to me that the best strategy is to try to stay in the center and only move to the corners to avoid being hurt, this way you get more escape routes. Good job!

Destination Station by JM-Janzen 2022-04-05T12:10:40Z

An interesting game! Wish there was a way to move the camera, and not only zoom in/out. The green text on the right (the "social media" thing, I guess?) is a little disturbing since it prevents you from seeing what goes on underneath it. It would also probably be nice to have a better indicator of station levels, right now it's almost impossible to see and I had to mouseover them constantly to see what level they are. Pretty fun game overall, good job!

Lone Microbe by timmyisbored 2022-04-05T09:41:04Z

Nice little game. Wish there was some score indication, otherwise you're just aimlessly moving around. I didn't realize you even can move at first, maybe some arrows around a player at start would help. An invisible map border is a little strange, better indicate it somehow.

Fading Fate by arch.inglor 2022-04-05T17:35:45Z

The game looks nice and promising but I couldn't really figure out what I am supposed to do and what do the buttons do (they didn't seem to do anything...).

Death and Taxes by DingoBandito 2022-04-06T08:32:36Z

Interesting entry! Got caught in a situation when I couldn't afford any of the cards and had to restart the game, maybe there should be a way to get out of this. In the long run it seems that always getting better jobs, bribing police & waiting for cheap or free hospital visits is the way to go, making holiday, gym & taxes cards kind of obsolete. Of course it's fine for a jam game to have balancing problem, so, good job :)

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Spooky Spook Meow Meow by iamtealc 2022-10-03T08:43:07Z

An unusual game! Great atmosphere, nice graphics & sounds. I was initially playing not in fullscreen and missed that you have a fixed-size inventory (and the "go to fullscreen" button is hidden by scrollbars, see the screenshot), so I ended up e.g. harvesting 20 crops and still having only 5. Maybe you shouldn't be able to pick up when full? I also couldn't figure out how to pick up crops in the beginning, until I realized they must not be ready to harvest & went deeper into the darkness. Maybe some indication that crops are not mature would help. Finally, it seems impossible to lose the game if you just stay in the cats zone: the ghosts don't seem to enter it, and new cats appear faster than they die, so you have a steady population of about 4 hungry cats. And if you're feeding the cats, you get constrained by your speed & inventory size, so you still end up with some limit population of cats, unable to support more. So, I'd say that mechanics-wise the game reaches some stagnation after a while, - would be nice to break this somehow.

Battle Forts by yarg 2022-10-03T20:36:40Z

Nice graphics, although it might use some polishing (better animations, better road pavement, etc). The take on the theme feels a bit off to me - this is a classic "two players spawn troops on a timer" thing, so this theme interpretation doesn't add anything to the genre. Having some sound/music would be a nice addition. The gameplay is a bit unclear: it's hard to understand who exactly has the specified boosts (all the troops, or the newly generated ones) and how effective they are (is a particular soldier using magic or physical attack, etc). I also had the feeling that I'd win no matter what, I randomly clicked the perks to see that are my options yet I was always winning.

Zelenium© by Enver Arco 2022-10-03T19:26:15Z

Beautiful art! The gameplay is quite simplistic, and I can't say it matches the theme well: nothing happens _every_ 10 seconds, it's just that you have 10 seconds to win. The game also felt a little bit unfair - after some failures there's no way you could reach the failure point again in 10 seconds. A final note: it's a bad idea to tell the player to press Alt+F4 for a web game, it will close the whole browser :)

Sushi Panic by Delightfullymad 2022-10-04T08:02:24Z

Nice game! Figured you can fix several things at once if you stand right between them, - not sure if that's a bug or a feature, but that's pretty helpful, enables some strategic fixing :) After a while things start breaking faster than you can fix them, but I guess this is intended.

ZombieGrade by Jejkobb 2022-10-07T11:34:46Z

A very nice game! It felt like the zombie's strength & speed increased with your progression, which produced an overall feeling that you're not going anywhere. Maybe there should've been different types of zombies appearing gradually, so that you'd clearly see that you are progressing? Aiming felt a little awkward from this camera angle, maybe a simple top-down view would be nicer. Anyways, good job!

Match it Fast by CharlieMrl 2022-10-04T14:28:36Z

A really nice game! Didn't feel like it fits the theme, though: nothing happens every 10 seconds, it's just that you have 10 seconds to complete the level. Nevertheless, enjoyed it, good job.

Totem Storm by Delta Key 2022-10-03T20:55:50Z

A very nice game! It seemed like the eye never actually touched the player, even if I kept moving, contradicting what the tutorial said. Shield regeneration speed felt a bit unfair compared to how quickly new enemies spawned. Anyways, enjoyed it, fun game!

The Oxinaut by Budark 2022-10-03T20:08:58Z

A simple but reasonable take on the theme! Nice graphics & controls. Screen shake felt a bit too strong, though I get that it is part of the game's chaotic feel.

Coronga Strike by elzeu 2022-10-07T11:16:04Z

Really nice game! As I understood it, your speed is lower than that of your enemies, but your turning speed is higher, allowing for neat maneuvering tactics. The only downside is that it's really hard to aim precisely when the enemies are far away. One solution would be to use the mouse to direct the player, another would be to do non-linear turning (e.g. quickly pressing a key turns just a little bit, but as you keep pressing it longer, the turning speed approaches maximal value). Anyways, cool game & theme interpretation, good job!

Field O' Fiends by Baconeta 2022-10-04T14:41:39Z

Nice game! One thing I felt frustrated with is attack range: there's no hit indication when you attack the enemies, so it's really unclear whether I've hit them or not, and the range felt too close even after several upgrades.

Trackdizzia by lisyarus 2022-10-08T08:42:27Z

@hawkin Thank you! The boost you're talking about is due to how track switching works: if you were at 30% in the old track, you appear at 30% on the new track. So, if the new track is 2x longer than the old one, someone who was ahead of you is now 2x ahead. The opposite happens if the new track is shorter.

Trackdizzia by lisyarus 2022-10-19T20:00:20Z

@dollcoded Thanks for your kind feedback! You are right, hard mode simply makes the AI 10% faster, or something like that. Didn't have enough time to balance and/or come up with a better way to make them stronger :(

Tower of the Dice God by Skyward4d 2022-10-04T15:15:03Z

Really nice game! The graphics & sound design are a bit simplistic, otherwise it's pretty fun! Managed to get almost all upgrades but at some point I seem to have jumped too high and moved somewhere out of the game field (judging by the remaining enemies, who were moving to the bottom-right through the wall).

Mutated Carbon by Gousen Pride 2022-10-07T11:58:01Z

A very cool game! The only problem is that the growth of enemies' levels feels too harsh, I quickly lost all my ammunition and had to go through ferrum rooms a lot to re-fill my supplies. No other resource went out so quickly, so I'd say the game would benefit from a bit of balancing :) Anyways, nice game! I almost got to the leaderboard :)

Alone by Oliver Plass-Wolter 2022-10-03T19:17:34Z

A nice take on the theme! Mouse controls felt a bit weird and made it hard to aim precisely, it would probably be better to make the player point to the mouse cursor or something like that. The shooting & the timer were a bit confusing: sometimes the players shoots when the timer hits 9/10, sometimes he doesn't; sometimes the counter goes with a different speed or even goes backwards. Sometimes it was possible to go through doors and I ended up somewhere I shouldn't have been :D (added a screenshot) In the end I entered some room and the game just jumped to the main menu, so I guess I've won? :)

Against the Clock by Thomas Yanuziello 2022-10-03T21:26:35Z

A nice take on the theme! Although it didn't feel like something happened at exactly 10 seconds. I also couldn't figure whether it is possible to lose - the red things get retracted even when they reach the clock center. Anyways, had some jiggles, good job!

Jump in the line by resacaGames 2022-10-08T19:36:31Z

ExperiMental by nilolo 2022-10-08T19:04:02Z

Incredible game & take on the theme! Banana & disco made me laugh. Jumping & movement in the air felt a bit like they lacked some inertia (i.e. less control while you're in the air). Lovely art style, although it would be nice if the enemies were more detailed. Anyways, great job!

Party is Over by LauraHur 2022-10-03T08:55:42Z

Nice game! The take on the theme feels a bit...weak, would be fun if something more unusual happened every 10 seconds. Couldn't figure out what to do with the dude & the stains, unfortunately. It also took me quite a while to realize you can use the items in your inventory, and the right click to change from looking to acting is really confusing at first. Maybe adding a better, more detailed description would help? (not necessarily in-game, just on the game page.) The text is way too blurry, hard to read on a large screen :(

A side note: the site thinks the game is playable in browser, which it clearly isn't :) And what engine is that? My guess is it's your own engine, judging by the archive content. Kudos for SDL2 :)

Ten Seconds In The Dark by LogovoStudio 2022-10-04T08:18:25Z

Nice game! Gets a bit repetitive over time, though. Definitely good work on creating the mood, gave me some shivers. I couldn't finish the 3rd level with iron rods, the last rod just seemed not to be on the map, and the timer in the bottom-left corner just said "you're dead", not sure if that's a bug or an intended thing.

Run, Slime, Run ! by Dahut 2022-10-04T08:24:58Z

A really interesting & unique take on the theme, loved it! Sometimes it's not clear whether you're standing on the corpse or not, i.e. whether you'll get the jumping boost, - maybe a visual indicator would help. The music felt just a little bit off, I'd expect it to feature in some fantasy-themed game and not a slime game, but maybe it's just me. Anyways, great job!

Sleep When You're Dead by nativetq 2022-10-03T19:02:27Z

A solid take on the theme! The game felt a bit unfair, since you can only move a tiny bit around the map and then the enemies destroy you in just a few turns, and the price for the turrets seemed a bit too high. Also the player's movement looks jittery, guess there's something wrong with the controls? A final note: both player movement during player's turn & camera movement during enemies' turn use the same controls, so you end up unwantedly moving the camera for a second or so after your turn ended but you didn't realize that yet, which is a little bit frustrating. Overall with some polish this would be a cool game!

Space Garden by Yamzho 2023-01-13T13:16:42Z

A very interesting entry! Loved the mix of card-based games with a farming sim, it's a really nice mix of genres. Nice art & music. A few suggestions on the game:

- I couldn't figure what watering does: it didn't seem to affect growth at all. I noticed that you can only grow meteorites on non-watered tiles, but then it seems that the right strategy is not to use watering at all :) Guess it's either a bug/unfinished feature, or the watering mechanics needs some better explanation maybe. - The "grow a plant to neighbouring 3x3 tiles" card seems to only work with meteorites: I've tried applying it to all other plant types, to all tile types (non-digged, digged, watered), it didn't seem to ever do anything. However, the text on the card suggests that it should work! - When you don't have enough energy to play a card, the game still allows you to pick it up, but then when you click it again it just doesn't do anything, which is quite confusing. Maybe you shouldn't be able to pick such a card? In any case some indication that you don't have enough energy would be cool: maybe highlight the energy points, maybe play an "error" sound, something like that. - The general balance of the game felt a bit off: I had too many "plant something" cards and too little "harvest" cards. In fact, I ended the game with a whole lot of things to harvest, which I couldn't do thanks to the cards :)

Cudos for your own engine with C++ and SDL! Mine is the same :)

I tried the game on Linux under Wine and unfortunately it lags a lot (runs at about 2-3 FPS), then it crashes, Wine debugger wanted to attach and then my desktop manager froze :D Haven't seen anything like that before :)

A Walk in Nature by SplitPainter 2023-01-13T13:36:51Z

An unusual entry! The graphics has the vibes of PS1 but also the grass moves with wind which looks fun :) Beautiful music. Of course there's pretty much no gameplay so I can't comment on that. A few bugs and suggestions: - When harvesting those 4 spherical plants, selecting them with a mouse works a bit weird - it doesn't always detect looking at the plant, sometimes shows a strange mouse pointer and I've no idea what it means, etc. - In a few places around the map, the grass grows right in the air, as if it uses a different heightmap compared to the player & the terrain. - The billboard trees are not centered on where their trunks are, which lead to the following effect: when you go around such a tree, it rotates to face the camera, and only its center stays at the same spot, while the trunk rotates as well and has a visible movement, as it you are "dancing" with it :)

reOrganiser by The-Vecter 2023-01-09T17:03:33Z

Nice game, a bit gruesome but excellent take on the theme! Great atmosphere and audio. Made my 50000 in the middle of the fourth day :) A few bugs/suggestions:

- The text floating in the air is hard to read with pixelization unless you come really close, but at this point it stops filling the entire screen so you have to move left-right to read the text, which is a but frustrating - A few times in between the tutorial & the settings (or somewhere in there) the mouse pointer was hidden and I couldn't click anything. This seemed to restore itself in a few seconds though so not a huge problem, but might be worth looking into. - After you've figured out that you just need to harvest everything good and better, the gameplay becomes very repetitive and non-challenging, with the only real choice being which customer to select, and this is still pretty trivial (take the legendary, if there isn't one take the exceptional, otherwise take the one with the most good stuff), and you simply keep pressing buttons and clicking a lot without much interest. So, I'd say this needs some tweaking, e.g. maybe add some random events.

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-09T20:50:58Z

An interesting take on the theme! A bit sad and frightening, though, but it sets quite the mood so it's a plus :) Nice visuals and sounds! The tips appearing one by one are a nice alternative to a dull tutorial.

One suggestion I have is to make the goba spawning more intuitive. In my playthroughs, the always ended up stuck on the field's edge (where they don't grow well, as per the tips) and there seems to be no way to fix that. Maybe the player should be able to replant the fruits or select where newly planted fruits should go? The tips also say that they need some space to grow, but it's hard to see how much space exactly. Maybe there should be a square/hex grid of planting places, which would allow for strict planting rules and add a new interesting mechanic to the game.

Anyways, fun & well-executed idea, great job!

Market Restaurant by Pincushion 2023-01-09T22:02:54Z

Nice take on the theme! Interesting gameplay as well. The art style looks a bit primitive, but that's understandable for a game jam, of course :) A few suggestions:

- It didn't really feel like I was gaining money. Not sure if that's by design or maybe I'm plain wrong, but such was the feeling of it. If it's not by design, probably the game needs some balancing? - It would be nice to have a faster UI (without animated transitions between scenes), ideally with everything always on one screen, so that one can be really efficient about buying ingredients, keeping track of combos, cooking, etc. I ended up e.g. impatiently clicking on a product I want to buy long before the animation of zooming in to the specific market stall ended :)

Beware The Wheatshifter by Fnkee 2023-01-09T22:42:08Z

Very interesting idea! Lovely art style. I tried to figure out the exact logic of the wheatshifters' movement but failed, and couldn't proceed past the third level!

Settlement by Corporation 2023-01-10T21:43:03Z

A very interesting game! Loved the pretty unique core mechanic, although it more or less boils down to knowing the probabilities of various dice outcomes (assuming the dice are fair, of course). Didn't understand what to do in the beginning, but figured it all after several turns thanks to the helpful tips. The font in the tips could be slightly larger, though, - it is a bit hard to read right now. Speaking of probabilities, since the game is all about them, having just 70 turns seems a bit unfair: the random dice outcomes mean more than your own strategy. Maybe if the game lasted way longer the probabilities would average out enough not to feel unfair? The game is pretty fast-paced so I think 300 or even 500 turns would be fine, and would allow for a more developed colony. Maybe it could be a game mode selection thing, e.g. select 100 turns, or 300 turns, or 500 turns if you feel like playing that long (I definitely would, ha-ha).

Extra points for a hex grid and a dual grid used for the settlements. I'm a simple man, I love a good grid :)

@corporation Oh, I noticed in the comment above that you're using the mersenne twister. It's completely understandable since it's the standard choice from the C++ standard library, but it's really bad for random stuff in games: it is hard (actually impossible) to properly initialize to a truly random state, it's state is just humongous (something around 5000 bytes per a generator!), and it's quite slow. It's mostly designed for cryptographic uses, where you really need huge randomness. What's more, the C++ header isn't guaranteed to produce the same results on different platrofms. Probably fine for something as simple as a single dice roll per turn in a jam game, but for something more serious I'd suggest to look for alternatives - luckily, there are plenty, like the xor-shift generator that I'm using in my engine (it's 16 bytes and fast as hell, but also random enough as well).

Expand by Tesseract 2023-01-11T18:39:57Z

Oh, fractals everywhere! Nice :) Loved that part of the game, having more planting fields was something I definitely didn't expect.

The game gets pretty repetitive soon, unfortunately. I figured that planting 9 plants in a 3x3 pattern, each separated by 2 squares, is a bit suboptimal but easy to use and provides steady income, so I just did that for all the soil types. After that it was just a ton of clicking: select farm, harvest, plant, zoom out, select farm, and so on. Definitely agree with others that some automation would be cool, or alternatively a more deep UI that allows you to do repetitive things easier.

@scolondev Ohh, sorry for that! Try connecting to the bottom two cities first, then buying a _/_ shaped road, connect to the remaining city and then connecting to the temple.

Hartifacts by lisyarus 2023-01-10T08:42:12Z

@danmerey Ah, that's a shame, there're just 12 levels in total :D

Speaking of temples, you can rotate the camera with the middle mouse button. Guess I should mention this in the description, thanks :)

Hartifacts by lisyarus 2023-01-10T21:51:23Z

@corporation Yep, that's a custom engine. That's the only way I can get my package sizes below 2Mb :)

Hartifacts by lisyarus 2023-01-11T21:22:01Z

@therealjtgill Thank you a lot! There're actually only two road models really - a straight and a curved one, others are combinations of these two :) The road placing logic was something I really underestimated the complexity of, spent a whole day just working on it.

Good point about clicking vs dragging the mouse: I guess I should've just kept the "Drag to build a road" text on from the start.

Thanks for using the, erm, "map editor" :D I'm happy someone did that. You can change the orientation of a temple with the blue channel of the pixel: it needs to be a number 0..5 that specifies the orientation. 0 means bottom-right with the default camera orientation (it's just "right" in the PNG), and then it goes counterclockwise.

Hartifacts by lisyarus 2023-01-12T15:37:20Z

@bloodycoin Thank you for great & kind feedback! Yes, having a single way to solve a puzzle was a deliberate choice due to time restriction: with multiple solutions it is very easy to miss something that breaks the level completely :)

Considering the levels, notice how all levels are kind of rhombic in shape, or more specifically they are parallelograms, which are skewed rectangles. They are built by taking the rectangular tiles from the level bitmap, going from bottom to top row by row, shifting each row of tiles by 1/2 to the right. I completely agree that it's not the most intuitive thing to work with! Even I got confused about it multiple times :D What helped me is the realization than in the bitmap each pixel only has 6 real neighbours; the 2 on the top-right & bottom-left are kind of fake.

The orientation of temples is determined by the blue channel of the pixel: values 0 to 5 mean 6 possible orientations, starting from east (positive X in the bitmap) and then going counterclockwise. A questionable choice, again, but it works and this felt enough for Compo :)

Not a simple harvest by Popman_yes 2023-01-11T18:26:11Z

A very nice game! The enemy designs definitely gave me giggles. The tutorial text disappears a bit too fast - I never learnt what you can actually do with that white bar in the top-left because of that :D The levels seemed a bit too easy - I managed to pass them all on first try. You have plenty of room to hide from the carrots, the onions can be easily dealt with from a distance. The potatoes are a bit hard but they still can't reach you if you jump around like crazy, as if playing Quake III :) The last level with a ton of carrots can be basically brute-forced: you shoot and immediately hide behind the walls of the previous level. So, yeah, the enemies and the levels could be a bit more tough, but maybe it's just me.

One more thing: the trident moves to the player a bit too slowly, maybe if it moved faster it would feel way more satisfying. However, this would make the game easier as well :)

Life is Fleeting: New Harvest by Sarah Alexa 2023-01-10T21:12:56Z

Interesting game! Loved the tips and screenshake effect when you're doing something wrong. Nice background music, although it would be cool to have more sound effects. A few bugs/suggestions:

- Sometimes I just couldn't plant seeds on titled, watered soil, no matter what. This seemed to persist between days, i.e. even on the next day I could use the tile (which remained tilted & watered), and on the next day, etc. - For some reason it was really hard for me to find the watering can! It kind of blends in color saturation & intensity with the environment, and I just missed it. Only found it after restarting the game for a second playthrough :) Maybe making it glow or have a visible distinctive outline would help. Also the mechanic of picking up instruments feels a bit redundant since you don't really do anything after that, you just pick them once. - Switching between instruments using the keyboards was a bit unintuitive & inconvenient, also most of the slots are unused most of the time. Maybe an inventory that grows on demand would be better, and you'd select the items by clicking on them with the mouse or by moving the "selected" cursor left/right with the keyboard? - When using a tool, you have to repeatedly press [SPACE] in order to use it on each visited tile. I've found that if I press it fast enough, I can move through a row of tiles without stopping and tilt/water all of them, but that's not the most pleasant thing to do :) Maybe it would be better if the tool was used if the [SPACE] key is already pressed? I.e. I'd just keep in pressed down and move over soil tiles to tilt/water them all at once. - Again, it was hard to find exactly where I'm supposed to sell the crops and buy new stuff! Maybe highlighting this places somehow so that they'd stand out of the surroundings would help.

Anyways, nice & promising submission, good job :)

Rogue Farmer by the3rdHunter 2023-01-09T19:45:11Z

Interesting take on the theme! Love the roguelike+farming mixed genre. Found that placing about 8 plants in a 2x4 rectangle makes me able to start harvesting the first one as soon as I've planted the last one. Didn't realize how to fight at first, thought I need some new tool as a weapon or I need to run from the enemies until dawn. Moving "into" the enemy with my bare hands just didn't sound like a reasonable thing to do until I did it accidentally :) A few suggestions:

- It would be nice to see what tool you have equipped right now, and having the same button do both dropping and picking up a tool would make it much easier to play. - You can accidentally use a tool on a tile where this tool does nothing and the player gets stuck on this tile until he ends using the tool, which still does nothing. Would be nice if the game ignored attempts to use a tool on an inappropriate tile. - Again, when using a tool you can't attack or even heal. This is exactly how I died in my last playthrough - started sowing the seeds and got suddenly surrounded by a dozen monsters and died suddenly, with nothing I could. Would be nice if there was a way to prevent that, e.g. maybe cancelling the tool if you think you need to run :) - It felt like removing trees and rocks is pretty much useless: takes a lot of time and doesn't give you anything at all - you still have plenty of free dirt everywhere, and due to ripe plants turning into bushes you can't really sow a large enough field anyway. - Finally, it would be cool to have more options to fight with the monsters, or at least build some defenses/wall against them. The game felt a bit unfair when I finally got to a good amount of crops but they didn't help me to defeat an overwhelming army of monsters.

Ol' Booty by omphh 2023-01-12T15:58:49Z

An interesting title! Liked the art and the atmosphere. Here are a few suggestions:

- The main game loop is kind or repetitive and, more importantly, feels a bit pointless: you can only gain money to improve your ability to gain money. I mean, yeah, all economic strategy games are like that, but they are about optimizing the process, while in this game there's really nothing to optimize: you can't fail at all! So, maybe there should be some threat to the player, some real obstacle for them to overcome using the earned money. - The ship speed upgrades felt a bit unfair: an increase from 6 to 6.06 knots doesn't feel satisfying at all. Also the upgrade shop said "0.6" speed while the actual increase was "0.06", not sure if that's a bug or something. - Speaking of the speed, it generally felt a bit too slow: most of the in-game time you just press the W button to move to the next ship. - It would be nice if you'd be able to see the amount of space you've left on your ship: otherwise it's hard to make an informed decision about what to take from each harvested ship, you have to sort of guess how much space you have. - At first I thought that "End voyage" is kind of "Exit the game" thing - you'll be shown some stats and then it's game over. Turned out it's more like "End turn" or "End day". Maybe renaming this menu option or adding a hint that it's a natural part of game progression would be cool. - The animation after you end your voyage, which synchronizes in rhythm with the music, is really cool, but only for the first, maybe second time. When you're deep into the game, you really want to move quickly, so I'd suggest adding a way to skip that animation, have a quick look on your stats, and move on.

Catchy by danmerey 2023-01-11T17:08:37Z

Ooooh, I almost envy you making this game, I've wanted to try making realistic sailing mechanic for a very long time :) And fish catching fits the theme nicely. The art style is very cool, although the sea looks a bit empty, maybe it could use some more decoration.

I've only found three fish types, guess I should've sailed a bit longer! It's nice that the hook can grab several fishes at a time, but it's a bit tiring to keep the mouse button pressed to retrieve it back. Maybe it could be just another mouse click? I.e. first click releases the hook, another click gets it back without the player having to keep track of the hook and the sails simultaneously.

Iris's Scrappy Rumble by ScolonDev 2023-01-09T19:09:01Z

A very cool game! Pretty intuitive controls, nice first "tutorial" enemy. Great music and feel! A few suggestions:

- The game is obviously very fast-paced and it is hard to be strategic about what types of weapons you're going to use, you spend most if the time just dodging the bullets. Maybe the bullets should be slower, or maybe there needs to be a way to heal? - Sometimes the enemies spawn right next to you and hit you immediately, which is a bit sad :) - Speaking of dodging the bullets again, the room felt a bit too small and the enemies a bit too fast. At some points is seemed like I've no option other than just making circles dodging the bullets and not letting the enemies to get close, and I'd occasionally shoot if I happened to step on enough weapons. So, maybe increasing the room size would make it better? Or maybe even add obstacles and stuff.

Gempire by Gr3yps 2023-01-10T23:01:37Z

Interesting core idea, nice submission! A few suggestions on how I'd improve the game: - Selection through keys isn't the most convenient way, maybe just buttons with all possible seed & building types would be simpler to use? - Sometimes the game has black text on dark background which is a bit hard to read. - Scrolling the map is a bit painful: the scrolling itself is too slow yet has large inertia, meaning it always takes the player too long to scroll and then one has to stop the movement manually due to inertia. Would be nice to have faster camera movement, which can be achieved with a mouse or maybe with arrows or WASD keys. - Speaking of scrolling the map again, there isn't much point in that other than to make the player angry :) There isn't anything on the map except a few soil spots & building spots, and they could all be in one place to prevent the player from needing to painfully drag the camera here and there all the time. - The game doesn't seem to have any specific objective, and after you've figured the mechanics the gameplay pretty much boils down to a whole lot of clicking, so I'd say this needs some work, too.

MegaBurgers by Horda 2023-01-09T16:21:53Z

Interesting take on the theme! Pleased to see something that isn't a farming game :) I loved the balance of the game, it felt like I was consistently making progress yet I almost never had a lot of money, having to convert it to cows/meat/bread/etc as soon as possible. So, my wealth was usually not in the money but in the intermediate goods, like in real economy :) The bread & meat flying around and the UFOs gave me giggles, though the cow-to-meat process looks just a bit gruesome.

A few bugs/suggestions: * After playing for a while (maybe ~20-30 minutes) my bread started disappearing. I though it's rotting away, but then I noticed fresh bread disappearing as well, even before it hits the ground. Looks like some bug! * Of course, the UI could be a bit nicer, with clickable buttons instead of key presses. * It would be nice if the money for the UFO would be taken as soon as you've pressed the button - otherwise, it is easy to miss that and go bankrupt. It might be left as it is as a design choice, of course :) * The graphics looks a bit too primitive, maybe just adding some background and throwing a few trees (a brown cylinder + a green sphere would do) here and there, a few stones, some bushes, etc would make it feel much more believable! * I might be the only one who'll notice that, but the transition between shadow cascades is noticeable - when the shadow suddenly changes based on distance to the camera. I'm guessing you'll need to tweak with Unity shadow settings.

Anyways, enjoyed the game, good job!

MegaBurgers by Horda 2023-01-09T16:52:14Z

@horda Yes, I played the HTML version. At some point all or most of my bread (I had close to 50 of them, I think) just instantly disappeared, and then the new ones started to disappear still in the air.

Jumping Bean Harvester by therealjtgill 2023-01-11T18:54:39Z

Oh, someone using a custom engine as well, with less than 2Mb download size, love that :) Also haven't seen anyone use imgui as a game GUI, that's an interesting decision. I've noticed you have a whole lot of DLL's in the package, mostly for the physics, I guess? It feels strange because what you'd typically do is just make a `libphysics.dll` with all that stuff inside. A lot of DLL's means a lot of files to read & load at startup, which increases the time for the game to start. It also means a lot of functions can't be inlined or called directly by a relative address, since they reside in a different DLL and the address isn't known before actually loading them, so they have to be called through an address lookup table, which is slower. It's usually not that big of a deal, but if this happens for a lot of functions in a hot loop (like the physics engine update), this might be a problem.

So, speaking of the game itself, I love the concept but I'd say the implementation needs some polishing. My camera was routinely stuck inside walls, and since they're all of the same yellow color it's really hard to navigate and understand where you are. The car movement looks a bit jittery, - I guess because the wheels are actually polyhedral and have rigid contact with the ground? Since you're making you own physics engine, it shouldn't be that hard to support proper round cylinders, I think: you mostly only need collision detection, and most algorithms for polyhedrons (like SAT or GJK) can be adapted for spheres and cylinders as well.

After playing for a while I managed to turn the car upside down and got stuck - guess this should be detected by the game somehow and considered a lost life or something like that :)

God Control by chlu 2023-01-11T16:42:53Z

The concept sounds pretty interesting, but it's really hard to play since there's almost no feedback given to the player. I didn't even realize at start that the "temperature" etc. things are sliders and not just indicators and that you're supposed to actually use them. The buttons on the top we're clickable for me at start, but then they suddenly became clickable. The turns advance with different speeds which I couldn't relate to anything happening in the game. And, finally, I had absolutely zero idea about how exactly my actions affect the game!

So, I'd say this is a very promising concept, but it really needs a better communication with the player: make it blindly obvious which parts of the screen the player can interact with, explain what various parameters & actions do, how they affect the state of the game and how do they interact with each other.

Crop Quota by Jampar 2023-01-09T20:08:56Z

Interesting idea! Cool take on the theme. Lovely art style and music. Would love to try to finish the game, but I got really tired of clicking to sell my crops. Is there any way of selling them faster then one by one? I tried clicking and holding the sell button, clicking it with shift/alt/ctrl, right-clicking it, and nothing worked. Seriously, when I got to ~35 people and about 15 planting pots my biggest time consumer was just clicking to sell!

Anyways, a few more suggestions: - It would be nice if the cursor showed what type of plant you've chosen to plant right now, or maybe the plant button itself would change background color during planting, something like that. - Planting itself felt a bit off because the planting pots don't react in any way to you moving the mouse over them; the UI would feel a lot better if the pots were highlighted or something like that. - It's a bit weird that planting is done with the left mouse button, and harvesting with the right button. These actions can't possibly conflict (a pot is never both empty and contains a ripe plant!), so both could be done with the same button to simplify the interface.

Unfortunate Harvest by redemptor 2023-01-11T18:01:56Z

A very cool game! Fun & unusual interpretation of the theme. The level design is great: hard at the beginning, but not stressful, and you keep getting better with each try. Managed to finish it with full health after about a dozen attempts :)

One bug I've noticed is sometimes you can fall into water and then move to the end as if being under the map. Also you can fire the shovels while still in the game menu without starting the game :) (they don't start flying until you actually start the game, though).

Of course I'd love to see more levels, more enemies, etc.

Vegan Robot Takeaway by coder2k 2023-01-09T22:22:55Z

Nice take on the theme! Love that it's not just a farming sim but also has cooking and droids :) nice simple art style, although it would benefit from some decorations around. A few bugs and suggestions:

- In my first playthrough, after preparing the first meal the robot couldn't serve the dish. I clicked the serving area many times in many places: the robot got to the serving window, but didn't actually serve the meal. So, I guess there's a bug :) - In my second playthrough the previous but seemed to have disappeared, but after serving a ton of meals the robot got stuck in the serving area and didn't respond to my commands. Another bug, I guess :) - It seems really unnecessary to select the robot all the time (at the game start & after buying new seeds). Pretty much the only thing you do in the game is manipulate the robot, so you can just always keep him selected. Unless you add the option to buy new robots, but that's a whole new story :) - Sometimes the robot responds poorly to the player's commands. E.g. when trying to grad the hoe, the robot sometimes moves towards it and stays really close but doesn't grab it, then you try to plow the land but it doesn't since it doesn't have the hoe! Then you realize he doesn't have the hoe, click on it again so he actually grabs it, then you click the land to be plowed and he still doesn't because the robot itself received the click (and did nothing with it) and not the land. All this gets really frustrating because the game itself is so fast-paced and everything is on a time. So, I'd say this "selecting/issuing orders" part of the UI needs some more work. Maybe e.g. the selected objects should be highlighted, that would make a huge difference already.

LD53 — Delivery

Delivery Squares by Elementary 2023-05-04T10:08:39Z

I agree with others that the player has too much inertia when they stop moving (the high speed itself it fine for my taste). The game doesn't have a fullscreen option, and when I used the arrow keys they applied to the whole web page first, so e.g. when pressing the down arrow key the page would scroll down a bit and only then it would start being applied to the game itself, which was quite frustrating. It took me a long time to figure out what to do; the colored bars on the bottom left are basically unreadable until you realize what they mean, and I didn't realize the little colored squares are actually directions - I thought they are the squares you need to gather, and couldn't figure out why they move in such a wierd way and why I can't ever reach them. Overall the game concept is a good one, but I'd say the game needs some work with explanations & providing feedback to the player.

The Kings Scam by JCMonkey 2023-05-02T08:11:34Z

Very nice bow controls, although I wish you could do stuff like draw the bowstring to change fire strength and had a larger quiver (but maybe I've played too much Mount & Blade). The walls felt a bit weird in that there's no reason to move anywhere from the gate, and at the same time you can barely see what's going on at the gates themselves. Most times when a package was delivered I didn't even see the guy who did that, and sometimes I did see him by the gate but couldn't reach him with arrows, which felt a bit frustrating. Loved the green arrows :)

Nuclear Hammer by ciderpunk 2023-05-01T10:52:38Z

Really weird game, in a good way :) I think I've finished all 3 or 4 levels and then it starts over from the first one?

The help text in the beginning is a bit hard to read since it is white on a bright background, adding a black outline would help. It also disappeared faster than I finished reading it, maybe instead there should be an [OK] button that hides in? This way it wouldn't depend on the player's reading speed at all.

The main hammer bashing mechanic is fun but a bit tedious. I didn't fully understand how it affects the students: it definitely pushes them physically, but it also seems to alter their behavior so that they move towards the school instead of just walking around?

The hammer explosion effect is cool but a bit too long to my taste - the smoke prevents the player from seeing the students, which was a bit frustrating at times.

Sometimes the "the goal is reached" text appeared before I've moved all the students, like maybe 2 or 3 were still not in school. Not sure if this is a bug or intended behavior, but in any case it would be nice to see the goal progress indicated somewhere (maybe just a text "Goal: 17/30").

Pet Delivery by tanis 2023-05-01T12:22:14Z

A fun game! Truly loved the sound effects. Agree with others that the game looks too small (I'm on Chrome with a 1080p monitor), and the controls are extremely sensitive. I tried several times but couldn't beat the level when the trajectory indicator disappears :)

Mobile Drone by tompudding 2023-05-01T21:02:03Z

A physics-based delivery game, just like mine :D The drone controls feel nice and intuitive, although picking up packages felt a bit strange - it is the only mouse interaction with the game (apart from the menu) and could as well be a key press. It would also be cool if the package was highlighted somehow when it can be picked - I ended up spamming mouse click while flying near it to actually pick it up.

It is hard to see where the destination for the package actually is while flying over the roofs, maybe a little arrow pointing to the destination would help?

LD53: House Delivery! by burnedkirby 2023-05-01T11:21:14Z

Nice & simple game! The sounds are a bit harsh when you just start playing, maybe add some fade-in at start, or use a softer instrument (like a sine wave based instead of square wave, idk). Would be fun if the music went higher in pitch when you speed up (the same way it goes down in pitch when you slow down). The core gameplay gets a bit too repetitive with time, so maybe you could add more stuff that appears by the road with time or somehow increase the difficulty, something like that.

FedUp by jward 2023-05-05T22:08:09Z

@jward Ooh wow! :) Are you talking about the whole engine or just the sound subsystem?

FedUp by jward 2023-05-06T09:14:33Z

@jward The main soft body part is mostly here: https://bitbucket.org/lisyarus/ldjam53/src/7d275fa8cd585a944086b1d0b64bf04a2223c404/main.cpp#lines-509:545

I'm planning on writing a blog post about it, I can ping you somewhere when it's ready if you're interested :)

Hover Bites by Togis 2023-05-04T13:26:06Z

A very nice game! Lovely visuals, although they still could be improved somewhat (add some variation to the ground, make selecting the buildings e.g. highlight them instead of enlarging, etc). Loved that you included a mini-tutorial, although I wish those "click me" labels were larger or flashing or smth, it took me a while to notice them :) The drone menu felt a bit overcomplicated at first, but this is probably because I didn't really use their full abilities.

Speaking of that, I was able to beat the game without any drone upgrades & storage buildings, only using each drone to move a single item between a pair of producing & consuming buildings. So I guess the game needs some more balancing / more levels, so that the player has to use all those available tools.

Btw, your "HoverBites_x11.zip" build is Linux-only, don't mark it as a Mac build, it simply won't be possible to run on Mac.

A Town in Labor by EvoGenGames 2023-05-02T08:50:24Z

Ah, every game jam must have an Excel game :) Took me a while to "launch" it, because I simply don't have any office-like software on my PC and I had to use Google Docs. The text in the tutorial was very hard to read (added a screenshot) even at 200% zoom, and the tutorial itself wasn't very clear. Eventually I figured out what to do, but didn't manage to solve the second level - it already felt incredibly complicated :( I've attached my best solution as a screenshot as well.

Disk Dasher by Andreadbx 2023-05-04T13:49:02Z

The game looks cool, but I'm playing on Linux with Wine emulator and it is painfully slow (from my expericence, Unity+Vulkan+Wine combination is a bit broken on Linux). My advice is to add Linux builds on game jams - it is trivial when using Unity, and there's a fair amount of folks who are using Linux these days :)

STARFLAIL by Mors 2023-05-04T13:38:48Z

A very cool game! Found it to be quite hard (never made it past the 2nd level) but also addictive. My only complaint is that it lags quite a lot sometimes (which is weird - there isn't that much stuff going on computation-wise), and a fullscreen mode would be nice - hard to play in a tiny window inside a web page right now.

Rawnhill Post by grizeldi 2023-05-04T12:14:47Z

A very nice puzzle game! Got a bit tired thinking it through but managed to complete most levels with a golden score :) Nice 7/4 music as well.

I first tried the Linux version but it simply crashed with a Segmentation fault. I then tried the Windows version with Wine and it worked fine.

The game felt like it is running in 30 FPS or something like that; maybe that's a problem of running it under Wine emulatorm, though usually games run without problems using it. The cars' movement felt a bit clunky, especially on the turns. I guess they move in a straight line with a 90-degree turn and smoothly rotate at the same time, which looks weird; probably better turn them in a circular curve and use the curve's tangent vector to compute the car's rotation.

Rawnhill Post by grizeldi 2023-05-04T13:24:27Z

@grizeldi Completely understandable about having enough time :)

Yes, my machine supports Vulkan and Unity games usually work fine (not sure about the Unity+Vulkan combination, though...).

Mad Delivery by Fluffy_Kaeloky 2023-05-04T12:37:15Z

The game looks really fun, but unfortunately it works so slow on my PC that it was impossible to play. I have an i9 and a fairly decent GPU, so I guess either you've done something horribly wrong, or it is an emulation problem (I'm running it on Linux using Wine).

I won't rate the game, of course, - that would be unfair :) The only constructive feedback I can give is the intro: the text disappears faster than I can read it (I'm not a native speaker), yet it is also unskippable, overall making it a bit frustrating.

Flingshot by John Gabriel 2023-05-01T16:30:29Z

Fun game! Got a score of 14000 (wanted to screenshot it but it disappeared too soon). I liked that missing the target doesn't punish you directly (like e.g. decreasing HP) but only means you've wasted precious time on a shot. It was fun trying to hit the target from a slightly weird angle as well (instead of e.g. a top-down camera). I felt like the maximum catapult strength was too much: even with a strength of 2.5 out of maximum 4 the vans would overshoot all the houses by a large margin, which made it a bit hard to tune the strength in the beginning.

Meat Missile Madness by Oliver Pope 2023-05-02T09:14:35Z

Unfortunately I could barely play the game due to mouse sensitivity being extremely high. Even with the lowest sensitivity setting moving the mouse 1cm made the player turn 360 degrees, which made it impossible to aim. The idea sounds fun, though.

The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-01T19:03:42Z

As a mostly PC player (I never had a Nintendo or any other console), I've found the game a bit too hard & fast-paced, taking quite a lot of time to figure out what is even happening on the screen, yet alone what to do with that :D Also I have no idea what "AB keys" or a "D-pad" are; I think something like "move with arrows, jump with Z and shoot with X" would be a better description for folks like me :)

Loved the visuals and sounds, the game has a really cool oldschool feel.

Rogue 'n Royal by Bauke Regnerus 2023-05-03T21:10:40Z

A very well made game! Loved how it builds a story about your character, and how you only get a fixed number of turns to explore the maps. However, there isn't much that helps you decide which direction to go, maybe there should be some clues on what to expect where. The maze minigame requires you to use the arrow keys (no way one can click that fast in the right places using a mouse), which is quite unfortunate as everything else in the game is done with a mouse. I was rather disappointed that when failing the final minigame with the king (the only time I've failed in this game!) I got to the very beginning. Also wish the game was a bit longer, it ended just when I started to feel the spirit of adventure.

Overall I liked the concept a lot, I think it can be a really good game with enough design iterations & polish.

Frontier Express by twobitadder 2023-05-04T14:11:01Z

Nice game, although I felt overwhelmed at lot with it: you need to both keep track of where you're heading, and the time limits that are only visible while holding the Tab key, and the popup messages in the bottom of the screen, and the enemies sometimes covered by those enemies, etc. The numbers over the planets in the Tab panel are really hard to read, I didn't even notice them at first and couldn't figure out what to do. Overall I think it is a cool concept but the UX needs some improvements.

Bomb Express by MoebiusMeow 2023-05-01T18:36:04Z

A very nice idea! Lovely art as well. In some levels I didn't understand how I could pass them, so I ended up just spamming new bombs, which worked like 50% of the time. Maybe a more gradual level progression would be nice, so that the player slowly learns how to use the bombs mechanic to solve various puzzles.

Bomb Express by MoebiusMeow 2023-05-01T21:13:33Z

@moebiusmeow Yeah, I figured the two bombs technique, but I guess I failed to master it - in some levels the second bomb never went the way I wanted it to :)

Planet Quest by Corporation 2023-05-01T19:39:47Z

A very interesting game! Spent quite some time in it (but still didn't beat it, got to something like 95%). Love how you combined a classic tower defense mechanic with delayed delivery, although it didn't feel like that much of a difference after you've upgraded your ship, so maybe this concept can be explored somewhat deeper. Agree that cancelling a selected building (e.g. by mouse right-clicking) would be great. I've felt that the shooting range of turrets & mine throwers was just too small, which was a bit frustrating at times. I also didn't realize at first that rocket launchers can't attack the smaller enemies, which was a bit disappointing as well. Overall a very decent entry, enjoyed it, good job!

Satellite Delivery by LudumDareDevil 2023-05-02T08:32:02Z

Congrats on your first 3D game! :)

I've found it really hard to select the employees, as if their hitbox is extremely small. The game doesn't have a fullscreen option, and it was a bit hard to play on a small window that is barely 25% of my (1080p) screen, making everything in the game really small. I didn't realize you could turn the camera at first, and it took me some time to notice the second patch of building slots on the left.

The buildings say "X/10" workers but the maximum number of workers seems to randomly change to 4 at some point (sometimes after construction, sometimes after the first fire, sometimes just without any other event), which was quite confusing. It also seems that you don't need that many buildings really - having about 3-4 seemed to be enough.

Trains and Factories by Itskdog 2023-05-01T21:20:14Z

I really want to try this game but I just can't figure how to use the assemblers. I've build factories, tracks and trains, and the trains seem to be picking up resources (coal & iron ore) from the factories, but when they reach the iron assembler the resources just disappear. Am I doing something wrong?

Trains and Factories by Itskdog 2023-05-01T22:08:19Z

@itskdog Yep, I used the Google Drive version before. Tried a direct download from LD site, this version seems to work, thanks!

Agree with others on lack of player feedback & slightly annoying (albeit funny) sounds. Mechanics-wise my main complaint is train movement: when building complex networks in constrained space it is vital to know how exactly these trains will move at various intersections (like in a T-junction), but there doesn't seem to be any consistent behavior (sometimes they turn left and sometimes right), and no extra control from the player.

Anyways, I played for about half an hour and managed to build a network producing computer parts for a stable income :) 2023-05-02-010255_1920x1080_scrot.png

Neighborhood Delivery by Pannda 2023-05-02T08:00:12Z

I have a feeling that I've just watched an arthouse movie, in a good way :) Everything was fine with text for me, by the way. The low-res art style is an interesting choice, though it might be a bit painful to look at when you don't have perfect eyesight. The gameplay loop is too repetitive, but I guess this is the whole point? :) Personally I wish there was a bit more story to that, but, again, maybe it isn't intended to be a story, but rather just an experience. The music, text & visual effects definitely set me into a proper mood by the game's end.

Happy for you to be able to express your feeling through a game. By the way, in my opinion doing something like participating in world's largest game jam and managing to make a game that truly evokes one's feelings is really far from "just existing" :)

Cold Pizza by Cole Hutson 2023-05-04T10:50:22Z

Great puzzle, loved the idea! Got stuck on level...7, I think? Added a screenshot of it. Would love to have some sounds effects & simple music to set the mood. Also some more visual feedback would be great, e.g. show possible locations for a sign when you drag it. I've found the car movement to be slightly confusing, as if the blue cars move in a different way compared to the red car, mostly on intersections/turns/dead ends. If I add a stop sign to the blue car and it ends up following me one cell behind and we reach a turn, we don't collide, but in a completely analogous situation when I stop my car and I end up one cell behind the blue car, we do collide at the same spot, which feels weird and inconsistent. 2023-05-04-134218_1920x1080_scrot.png

Andromeda Delivery Service by lisyarus 2023-05-02T18:03:18Z

@grizeldi It says that you can zoom somewhere at the start, before you've delivered your first piece. Agree that it is easy to miss, though!

I wanted to avoid an explicit velocity vector, instead you have background stars that indicate your velocity and also the engines produce smoke. I've made the smoke even more dynamic in the (not yet released, of course) post-jam version.

Fun & unusual core mechanic! Also congrats on your first game jam :)

Nice visuals & sound effects, the music also fits the mood quite well.

Agree with others that the intro should be shorter or, better, skippable.

I didn't completely understand how the scoring system works. In fact, it so happened that I had to leave for a few minutes after launching the game, and when I returned I saw a score of about 7000, without doing literally anything. So I guess the game needs some bugfixing or balancing, hard to know for sure :)

Squid Belt by JustCore 2023-05-03T20:41:22Z

Nice game! Reminds me both of my current LD submission and also the first jam game I ever made.

Some thoughts about your game: * I didn't notice the text in the top-left corner for a long time. Maybe the score could be centered horizontally, while the distance could simply be right next to the arrow pointing towards your destination * Shooting felt a bit pointless: it is a bit hard to aim while both you and the enemies are moving, and also because the enemies get pushed away by your bullets. I ended up simply dodging the enemy bullets all the time, which turned out to be surprisingly easy because you can rotate instantly. Maybe if there were less enemies, they weren't pushed by your bullets, you had a limited rotation speed but the gun could rotate freely, maybe then the shooting would be more interesting, tactical, and important? * The distances are often too large. Half of the gameplay is simply doing nothing except holding the mouse button, waiting until you reach the destination. Sometimes there are encounters with the aliens, but as I've said, it is easier to simply ignore them :)

Nana's Delivery Service by STUDIO ENDEVA 2023-05-02T09:28:17Z

Loved the music, but the white volumetric fog feels like it doesn't fit this atmosphere. It looks like a rainy/foggy morning, while the music asks for something more bright, sunny and lively, in my opinion.

I couldn't figure what to do at first: I though you're supposed to reach these red circles in the sky, and got frustrated not being able to fly upwards. Only then I noticed there are people standing on the ground (hard to see them because everything is so gray and they blend with the environment). I think it would have been better to highlight people themselves instead of showing a red circle above them.

Bokaty by xema4789 2023-05-01T12:35:11Z

I've found the controls to be a bit too hard. When you press [E] (instead of holding it) while looking at an ingredient it simply disappears. Throwing the sushi is also hard, having to both keep [E] pressed, hold the mouse with no visual indication of how fast the sushi will fly, and aim at the same time. I've never managed to end up with a positive net sum after playing a round :( Overall I think it's a cool concept which needs some controls polish.

Slime Post by Sebhulhu 2023-05-02T07:40:27Z

Looks like a fun game! Unfortunately I couldn't proceed past the spikes on the tutorial level: the tombstones almost always just slipped under me and moved away when I landed on them, leaving me on the spikes. On the rare occasions when I managed to land successfully, the tombstone was too far from the right end of the spikes, and I couldn't just far enough to avoid them. So I'd say the difficulty needs to be tweaked, and also the tombstones can be replaced with something that doesn't roll over, like e.g. some solid boxes.

There's a bit too much text in the tutorial; the font used is a bit too wide and short, which doesn't help much. Maybe just increasing the line spacing would help with that. The text also sometimes stays for too long and kind of distracts you, and sometimes it stays not long enough, before I finished reading it (I had to restart the game to finish reading the message explaining how to throw stuff). I suggest to simply show the text if the player is below the text area, and hiding it otherwise. This way, only one text is visible at a time, so that it doesn't distract you much, and also the players can decide for themselves how long the text stays there.

Canyon Dash by RandomPickle13 2023-05-01T13:20:58Z

Interesting game! The road graph looks a bit needlessly convoluted, with all paths taking roughly the same number of nodes, and path planning boils down to visiting the shop because it gives you one less combat encounter. Didn't fully understand how combat works (I see it is like rock-paper-scissors from the comments?), but strangely enough I still enjoyed it. Would be extra cool if the combat animation showed the actual number of troops and stuff like that :) The game also felt too short, and I really wanted it to e.g. load another map with more shops/villages, etc.

Famous Delivery Man by justslavic 2023-05-01T09:54:15Z

Congrats on your first game jam! Making a game with your own engine is really impressive, even with boxes-only graphics (who needs more?) :)

I'd say the game stars too fast - it's only a few milliseconds and I'm already hit by a stone, having the feeling that I need to quickly figure out what to do or I will lose. I see two simple ways to prevent this: firstly, start with a slow player speed, and increase it with time/delivered packages, and secondly start with a field of no stones and gradually increase the density as the player moves forward.

The fact that you don't have some notion of a health bar and basically can't lose is actually great - the player feels less punishment this way, and there's no pressure, just chill jumping around.

Speaking of jumping, it took me some time to realize you can jump in the air - maybe worth mentioning this in the game description? Also if you spam space bar while the being hit animation is played, all the jumps are applied when the animation ends and you end up skyrocketing high up. Not sure if this is a feature or not :)

Nimbus Driver by Janton 2023-05-01T11:02:26Z

For me it also says "Not found" when trying to download the ZIP, so instead I cloned the github repo and the game compiled without any problems, so kudos for that :) Great to see people using SDL2 as well.

Not much to say about the game, it nice and self-contained. Some more visual & sound effects would help, e.g. when the package is received or when the player gets damaged by the birds.

By the way, in many cases there is no way to escape the birds, which was a bit disappointing. I can see two solutions to this: either tweak the bird spawning algorithm to guarantee there are safe spots to travel through, or add some healing collectibles on the way.

Valhalla Calling by Aviv Levy 2023-05-02T16:24:09Z

Very nice game! Cool art & atmosphere. The "sending to valhalla" mechanic forces you to approach to enemies more tactically, which is fun. My only complaint is weapon reach: it was very difficult for me to find the right distance to the enemies for an attack. I didn't find myself using block and dashing much, but maybe I just didn't spend enough time learning how to use them :)

Cargo Chaos by synthol 2023-05-02T08:55:56Z

Nice game! Took me a while to understand what's going on. Maybe an indicator of how many packages you're currently carrying would help? Also quite frustrated by objects appearing anywhere on the screen - most times I lost the game simply because of an obstacle that spawned right in front of me which I had zero chances of avoiding.
