LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Gundemonium by AkirAssasin 2021-04-26T22:08:22Z

Great game! Great art style and gameplay. I feel that most people will choose to stay at the far left or right. Got catch off guard by the enemy spawning above me at level 12... I wasn't fast enough to shoot them.

Minigun Miner by drludos 2021-04-27T00:06:36Z

Good mini game! Didn't know that replit can host GUI in browser. The control is a bit hard to get used to, so I basically keep shooting and stay at the top of screen most of the time.

Labyrinth by Brendev 2021-04-27T02:42:30Z

Nice game! The sound and graphics (and the minotaur) really set the atmosphere. This reminds me of Temple Run. Would be nice if you add some collectibles like coins/gems for scores.

MineWell by superpokeunicorn 2021-04-27T07:40:54Z

Cool mining game with good graphics and music. Those particles and sound effect make digging feel very satisfying!

Diver by hungryroy 2021-04-28T02:04:34Z

Great game! I have never seen an underwater platformer(?) game before. I like that oxygen is scarce and a bit hard to get, making the game challenging.

Need more deep: Donut cover by Kurakurture 2021-04-26T22:29:10Z

A fun platformer game. The goblin is cute :) I found that you can just jump down the hole and skip most parts. Maybe add a check so that it can die from falling.

Nuclear Chaos by pixlark 2021-04-27T05:57:37Z

I like this physics puzzle games! I'm not good enough to get very high score, but at least the annihilation effect was fun!

The Descent by iovorobiev 2021-04-28T04:05:54Z

Congrats on your first compo! It's a cool puzzle game! Quite challenging to have to optimize the number of moves.

Search and Resque by Hilvon 2021-04-26T18:20:25Z

This is a really cool game! The digging mechanics is cool! I also like the graphics and atmosphere. Would be even better with some background ambient music

Archlike by Ayced 2021-04-27T07:56:23Z

Nice little hack and slash game. The combat needs more polishing, but it's always fun to slash enemies. It's hard to deal with multiple enemies at once. I learnt not to rush into them but try to slowly get them one by one!

Chuck Challenger: The Hunt for Malpractice Mole by Phlip45 2021-04-28T01:40:18Z

Love the sound effects! The controls are good and I like that the bullets are in projectile motion! Also, kudos to you for building the game using PixiJS!

Drawn Out by xmatos 2021-04-28T06:05:38Z

Wow, this is a brilliant idea! Love the generative music.

trabitboy_ld_48 by trabitboy 2021-04-26T22:17:00Z

Nice game! It's fun to shoot around and the control feels good.

Miner Rescue by Vasco Freitas 2021-04-27T06:59:07Z

The control is quite difficult, I had to move very slowly in some areas to avoid hitting the walls. I love that there are checkpoints which helps to balance the overall difficulty.

Deeper In The Night by Lorwon 2021-04-27T02:28:44Z

Great job on making a game in C++ with your own engine! This reminds me of the torch puzzles in Hellblade.

Minball by Pizzasgood 2021-04-27T06:39:51Z

I encountered some bugs with the physics as already mentioned here, but otherwise this is easily the coolest pinball game I've ever played!

Deep Dungeon Tactics by Aditya Kumar 2021-04-27T03:28:38Z

Great work! I guess the first floor was really brutal before the balance patch! I got a bad RNG on my first run, my mage got fried by 2 enemy mages in the first enemy turn. But my second run goes well and I was able to clear a few floors by carefully luring single enemy out.

Down the Dwarvern Hole by TheseusInABottle 2021-04-27T02:03:18Z

Nice little puzzle game! Love the art style and the voice acting! Wish the puzzles are more difficult, and that you can pick up multiple swords at once rather than wasting time to pick up and use them one by one

Deep way down by Martynas 2021-04-27T04:17:54Z

Amazing storytelling and gameplay! The game mechanics are simple but interesting, especially for the anger level.

The 13th Floor by ScalphaMission 2021-04-28T01:30:45Z

I think you can make the flashlight brighter as it's still too dark for me in some area. But otherwise the game is great! Stats are well-balanced (I would rather reduce the hp of enemies and make them spawn more often, but it's also good right now), controls are good, and the upgrade system is well done!

Deep Mole by hutchings90 2021-04-26T19:18:46Z

Love the sound effects  Nice game except that it may be a bit too easy. Wish there's a higher difficulty

Mineshaft by ditam 2021-04-27T06:10:38Z

This is a fun mining card game! I feel that those cards with non-zero cost (cards other than pickaxe/TNT) are not worth it, seem it's better to keep digging than spending money + a turn on those. But then, I only played against AI. Maybe someone can come up with solid strategies using those cards.

Plunge by ZwodahS 2021-04-26T19:08:12Z

Great game! Feels good to go really fast! The only problem is that sometimes I got bounced off the screen and died, probably because of some red blocks off screen?

Deep digger by phoenix-gi 2021-04-27T07:34:24Z

This is a cool game. At first, I thought it's impossible to outrun the enemy miners, but it seems that there are ways to temporarily trap them in a hole to buy some time. The graphics and sound are good, but there should be sound effects when collecting gems! Also nice to see that you are using your own game engine. I'm also building my own engine but it wasn't ready for this jam.

Mage basement cleaning services by RedKitsune 2021-04-26T23:18:59Z

Wow, great game! I like the music and graphics, and on the spell effects. Killing monsters and destroying things with magic are always fun.

Bomb Miner! by Parsafari 2021-04-28T05:50:51Z

It's a juicy version of minesweeper! Good work. Took me 2 try to notice that the number is for 4 directions. Just a random thought, it may be interesting to experiment with other variants, like using hexagons and other tiling patterns.

Monster Tower by LungTakumi 2021-04-27T05:43:40Z

Cool platformer game! The dragon looks great! Sometimes there's not enough platforms, making it impossible to dodge the dragon's attacks. And I had to take a leap of faith to dodge from dragon fire, because the next platform level wasn't appearing fast enough!

Miningsweeper by Nick Barrash 2021-04-27T02:19:12Z

Really cool minesweeper game! Love how you add the radar and monster battle mechanics to the minesweeper game. Having upgrades is also nice.

Bundt Man by bubbadubc 2021-04-28T06:18:50Z

Great game! Love the music, sound effects and graphics (especially for the death animations!) Mechanics are simple but provide enough challenge. Only issue is that I experienced some random freezing on the web version.

Blackout by Frasse 2021-04-29T06:47:51Z

Wow, this is excellent! Like the plot twist at the end

Enter The Golfeon by Steven C 2021-04-27T00:32:26Z

Challenging but fun golf game! Love the fact that I can strike mid-air to get to the 2nd hole! And I like the Blender monkey head :)

Disaster Dig by alpharock6 2021-04-27T03:55:14Z

It's minecraft! Overall a good game. I like the fuel management mechanics. At one time, I barely made it to the refiner with nearly 0 fuel left. Then I decided to get both fuel tank upgrades ASAP :)

Submarine Adventure by bflatinteractive 2021-04-27T05:17:36Z

Great visual novel(?) Love the fish models and atmosphere. It seems that the oxygen level is always at > 150% and the choice against hostile fish doesn't really matter. Also, it seems to be bugged after 45000ft or so.

Deeper and Deeper by John llyod Apolo 2021-04-28T06:39:20Z

Really enjoyed this boss fight. I like the 3 head mechanics and that you can't damage it when the eye is closed. Took me a few tries to beat the alien. I always died from falling when trying to dodge the attacks

Titan Spear by Zackavelli 2021-04-27T01:44:18Z

Nice minigame with great art and music. It's quite a difficult game, had to keep focusing on the bottom of the screen instead of the spear

Ludum Dante’s Inferno by VainCil 2021-04-27T03:39:54Z

Cool concept and nice job building a 3D game in Elm! As a web developer, I always wanted to try Elm.

Magic Forest by RuslanCH 2021-04-28T05:59:35Z

A nice, relaxing endless runner! Great background music that sets the mood. Agreed with other comments that I feel dizzy after concentrating on the game for a while.

In Too Deep by RefraX295 2021-04-26T06:58:54Z

It was fun! Not sure if there's a limit or it's just due to the lag, but after placing a bunch of turrets, I wasn't able to add more.

Asterisk by Crychair 2021-04-27T07:44:59Z

Love the voice acting and pixel art style. The gameplay is very polished.

Deeper Dungeon by CiYouLater 2021-04-26T06:18:27Z

Love those faces  I died at level 5 when facing multiple enemies. Maybe make the hitbox bigger to make it easier to hit the enemies

Dive & Dig by andrewkennedy 2021-04-27T08:23:34Z

Really cool concepts and funny dialogues. The graphics and music are excellent!

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-26T18:02:26Z

Thank you! At first, I thought you meant you wanted to be able to bump into obstacles, because right now you can't. But I just found out that due to how my code is written, you can click on the character to skip a turn! I can see that can be useful for better positioning, and would consider it as a feature now!

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-26T21:52:18Z

@hilvon @steven-c Glad you like the game! I spent most of my time on zombie and specter mechanics - zombie swarms and specter catching you off guard. I added bulls and reapers at the very last hour, and they only appear after 60m and 120m. I should have made them appear sooner!

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-26T22:55:29Z

@steven-c Yes, it's quite hard! Not counting the times I cheated, I was only able to get to 120m once  I keep staying behind obstacles to avoid getting instakilled by specters and bulls as they spawn.

This is my original idea. At first, I just copied from chess rules, using pawn movement for zombies, and king movement for player. Somehow I didn't like it, so here's current game mechanics after a few rounds of iterations and playtesting!

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-27T05:31:20Z

@hutchings90 @scalphamission Thank you for playing my game! Good to hear that you like it.

@zwodahs Thank you! I haven't played many roguelikes, but I love board games. I'm very satisfied by the zombie mechanics as well.

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-27T19:38:42Z

Thank you everyone for playing my game  Really glad that some of you were able to meet the bulls and reapers!

@iovorobiev Yes, I plan to at least do a post-jam version of the game! The game actually playable on mobile right now (except maybe the text is a bit small), it feels surprisingly good to me, even though I have never tested it on mobile during the jam!

@pizzasgood Ah, you've found the secret move! I knew there's a timing issue that the player can continue to move during the attack animation, but I didn't fix it. Looks like I should make it an official feature in future

@andrewkennedy @lisyarus Yes, highlighting available moves for player and enemies was very top on my TODO list. Basically expect for zombie and player, other pieces follow chess rules: specter is bishop, bull is rook and reaper is queen. Unfortunately I started the jam late and didn't have the time to add the highlighting.

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-05-03T04:34:13Z

Thank you everyone. Great to know that most of you find the game challenging, as my intention was to create the harsh roguelike feel with a zombies horde  But the difficulty can definitely be tuned down at the beginning.

@lungtakumi all models are created in code using primitives only (box/cylinders/cones) to give a chess piece feel. Check out my (poorly written) source code.

@vilcans @sdata agreed the specter/bull/reaper should be tuned a bit. Right now, some luck + staying around obstacles are necessary to survive. I died most from double/triple specters, followed by instant death from bulls/reaper on an open space.

@james-kusardi actually zombies always move deterministically in a way to shorten the distance to you. But when they are blocking each other, then there will be a bit randomness as their movement order is not fixed.

U-Bot by fargred 2021-04-28T03:04:02Z

At first, I accidentally died at 190m and thought I've seen everything... then I replayed the game after seeing the comments. That's a totally different experience! Great mini game! Great job on your first LD game.

Top Down by DoomMustard 2021-04-28T02:49:37Z

Interesting concept and great job on your first game! Wasn't very sure what to do at first, but the overall experience was still enjoyable.

Newton's ball by KasparKram 2021-04-26T18:29:03Z

Great game! It's pretty hard but fun to play! I also like that you have a shop.

Deeper into hell by lisyarus 2021-04-26T23:54:02Z

Overall I enjoyed playing the game! The randomly generated levels can sometimes be hard, especially at the first few rooms because you start being very weak. I got like 4 enemies on my second room, without any upgrade/health. However, it's otherwise very fun to play.

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-28T02:33:20Z

Great graphics. Nice and simple mechanics. Love the progression in difficulty. It's a bit difficult to aim, especially for the bottle. I would make the hitbox larger for the bottle.

Rope Down by Wunarg 2021-04-26T06:37:52Z

The grappling mechanics is fun to play with! though the game gets laggy after a while

Treasure Hunter by Scrawach 2021-04-26T18:44:23Z

The mimic chest concept and mechanics are great. Great graphics, and there're even cutscenes! At first I thought the enemies are a bit too difficult, but once I learnt the pattern, it's actually pretty fun to play.

The Reapers Course by Pepper Boi 2021-04-28T06:47:14Z

Nice platformer game. I like the increasing difficulty and the mood. There's some tilemap flickering in the web version, but otherwise it's perfect
