LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Embark by Pseudohausen 2021-04-27T10:27:27Z

The music is calming and I like the concept and simple art style. Maybe it's the fact that I'm not really experienced in idle games, but I'm really not sure what I should be doing in this game. Are coins and dust the same thing?

Worm Excavation League by HacksawUnit 2021-04-26T07:06:49Z

Makes me wish I had a friend to play with o.O

It was really satisfying breaking the rocks, and the little worm's expressions are cute as heck. Good job!

Under Pressure by OadT 2021-04-26T10:29:17Z

Ahhh, I love it but I have no idea what I'm doing! Is there a way to rotate the pieces? Also the initial resolution is a bit too small, and I'm on an ultrawide so full-screen isn't really great either o.O

Great job, I love the chaos.

Stairwell by GiovanniBarrottu 2021-04-26T11:00:26Z

The stairs gives it a really unique look. I would have preferred to have the buttons be tied to keys, and not having to click the green box would have made it a little bit more fun for me. I like the concept of fighting on a spiral staircase though, made me think of a swashbuckling fight sequence. Good job.

Lowestop by Popolon 2021-04-26T10:48:05Z

I can't figure out what to do. The screen says press key to start but nothing is working.

Cave Runner by Sir. Syko 2021-04-26T11:06:32Z

Nice simple game. One of those ones where I'm finding myself still playing after I should have stopped :D

Good work.

The Botanist by Tezza48 2021-04-26T10:45:19Z

I was pretty confused at first, and to be honest I was still confused until I won. I would have liked a little bit more information about what I was supposed to be doing.

The art style was super nice, and I loved the look of the giant crab. Good work :)

Dyb by Ratrat44 2021-04-26T10:06:35Z

It's a really cute game and quite entertaining. I like the hiding mechanic, although, like other people, I got stuck when the enemies kept killing me on the spawn point. I also thought the plants were dangerous at first. Well done :)

Soaring Under by jitspoe 2021-04-28T20:41:20Z

Ahh, I'm so bad at this! I love the little duck quack as it hits the wall. It's soothing while you fly but I can't fly too long. I'm clearly doing something wrong though based on other people's feedback. Good job on the environment and music, they're super lovely and work really well together.

Soaring Under by jitspoe 2021-04-29T07:57:42Z

@jitspoe Ah, it got a lot easier once I had a little bit of momentum. Once I made it through the first cliff it wasn't so bad. It was worth persevering.

Deep way down by Martynas 2021-04-26T08:25:47Z

That was so simple yet so poignant. I love how the mechanics tied up to the stages of grief. That really gave me the feels. Well done!

Deep Golf by dmdmdmdm 2021-04-26T06:50:31Z

I liked the moody music. I didn't know where I was supposed to be heading for, so some sort of target marker would be nice. Also I couldn't figure out if there was a way to turn the camera, so I couldn't go backwards or to the side.

20.000 LIGHT YEARS deep in THE SKY by Arivenzys 2021-04-29T09:48:42Z

It's incredible that all that gorgeous artwork was produced in just one weekend. Outstanding!

Mineshaft by ditam 2021-04-27T15:43:45Z

I had a lot of fun playing this. I thought it was a neat concept of digging through a deck of cards, and really well executed. I'm impressed that you added an opponent to it. The rules felt interesting enough to keep playing for a second time. Great work!

The Depths (Ultimate Edition XXI) by sacredbacon 2021-04-26T10:53:36Z

The camera is the true enemy! I found it entertaining but a little bit frustrating. It was definitely a challenge. I liked the level design and the style. I learnt to truly wince whenever I heard the chomp sound. Good job!

Deeper and Deeper- A drop's journey by Tankou 2021-04-29T09:34:54Z

Cute little game, and fun to play. I think I would have preferred it if you could also move up and down, as sometimes the bugs would be over the droplets making it impossible to pick them up without getting hit. Good work!

Swing Shroom by Quite Good 2021-04-27T07:40:36Z

I think the mushroom puns made this worth playing just by themselves  I love the aesthetic and thought the characters were super cute. I think I would have preferred it if the rope fired all the time instead of just at the wall. I thought it wasn't working to begin with until I figured it was only at certain points. I also got a bit lost in the level, but I had fun. Nice work

I'm So Deep by liammasters 2021-04-29T09:16:50Z

So many fun little details. Absolutely brilliant concept and stupid graphics in the best possible way. Love it.

Subterplane by Bigbadbison 2021-04-27T07:54:03Z

It was a nice touch not removing the crashed planes, it made it fun flying past them and knowing that I had made it further than before. The controls were tricky but I think that's the part of the gameplay for games like this. It was also good to see the lights of the plane switch on as it got darker. So a few really fun details. Good work!

Deep Dive by Soyeahimjames 2021-04-27T19:47:01Z

The controls felt a little bit... floaty...

It was a nice and fun game, although I felt like I needed a bit more direction of where to go other than just down. Also those are some pretty hostile fish! Kudos on your first game, good job!

Love Under the Robot Junkyard by frogmen 2021-04-26T06:59:02Z

That was a nice little game :)

It took me a little while to realise that my battery was running out in real time and that it was a race against time rather than a puzzle. I love the mood and music, and the graphic design is super neat.

Deep in the Graveyard by AndyKSWong 2021-04-27T08:09:30Z

Ah, I think I'm a bit too dumb for this game. I'm struggling to get past the specters, and even the zombies kill me most of the time. The music is ok but I wish there was some way to disable it after a while. I like the minimalist style and it's a nice concept using chess moves. Also great that this was made in three.js! Kudos!

Into The Depths by Jason Wilson 2021-04-27T15:58:16Z

I also thought that you had to keep going down all the time. The first time I didn't see the shop, and then the second time I noticed that I could buy new equipment so I thought that I could keep upgrading every time I died. Then I lost 4k gold and realised that you couldn't :grimacing:

It's a pretty fun game, and I really love the design of the squids. I felt that returning to the surface to buy equipment felt a bit more of a chore though, since I was losing progress to upgrade. The upgrade system and the shop were nicely done though.

Deep Sleep - The Sandman by VeryGenuineCraze 2021-04-26T08:14:21Z

I really liked what you did with the theme, and the sound design made me laugh. Fun little game to play, although I think I would have preferred to have levels or some sort of progress / difficulty ramp.

Good job!

Run little one, run by Para_no_ 2021-04-26T07:14:14Z

It was nice and fun, and definitely challenging. The controls felt really floaty though. I would have preferred a much lower mouse(rat?) sensitivity. The scientist catching me made me jump almost every time!

Good job and congrats on your first jam!

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-26T13:26:56Z

The wraparound is my solution to the issue of what to do once the player has left the game space. I tried bouncing the player back, but it felt a bit harsher and more confined. Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

@sir-syko yeah, it's a bit tricky when a fish is just on the edge. I'm not sure what a good solution to that may have been though

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-26T13:33:13Z

If only I had more time!

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-27T14:00:12Z

Thanks for the kind words about the music :grinning:

I wish I had added a lot more juice to the game in general. I started trying to add some particle systems in, before realising that my level of knowledge wasn't quite enough to have something done within the time limit. That's an area I'd love to improve on the next time I take part in one of these, along with the sound design, and level design. There's a lot to fit into 48 hours!

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-27T21:54:54Z

@dirkinz ah, whoops. I should have added a check to make sure that didn't happen :grimacing:

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-28T19:46:10Z

I should have added some more checks for where to spawn the creatures so there weren't any collisions. I thought this might be an issue but I didn't prioritise putting a fix in for it because I felt that the game was completable despite occasionally getting hit to begin with, but I guess it feels unfair and that takes away some of the fun.

@eximir good point about the invincibility. I think that may have been my lack of understanding of how the Unity collision on enter fired, as I assumed that it wouldn't trigger twice, but it seems like it does in some situations.

Blue Square and the Mystery Cave by asdehielo 2021-04-27T14:14:43Z

This was the most fun game that I've played so far. I felt like the puzzles were well made and with a nice flow. And a nice little twist in the ending! No spoilers but ahh, that made me feel differently about the game after. Very well done.

Also I noticed that the door noise blew out a bit. I'm not sure how to describe it as I'm new to playing with sound effects as well. It just sounded a bit off to me.
