LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Rift Plugger by Mikeliosus 2018-12-04T14:28:04Z

Nice concept, and the art looks nice! The controls felt a little clunky for me though, and I had some trouble throwing things into the rifts when I was close to them. The attack also felt kinda slow and not very satisfying. Some of the sound FX were good though!

TtAWwyPTBaSPSTtaUGtSYL by GiovanniBarrottu 2018-12-04T14:34:29Z

@call-me-nutty thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I forgot about the WebGL thing, I expected my game to be buggy on WebGL (surprisingly not) so I didn't even plan around having a web version.

TtAWwyPTBaSPSTtaUGtSYL by GiovanniBarrottu 2018-12-04T14:36:44Z

@jasacken Thanks for the advice! I might have to try out that movement idea you mentioned!

@vulcansyntax Yeah, I had trouble trying to make the dragging not feel too slow, thanks for the criticism!

Bottomless God by Thewerebean 2018-12-04T14:17:35Z

Art and music is nice! could have used some sound fx though.

Collisions are pretty wonky, and you can walk off the side and get under the map.

The gameplay is kinda lackluster, it's just kind a guessing the right object.

it's a cute game, though.

Goobli by FiloTG 2018-12-04T14:03:32Z

The sound is really nice! I like the music and the sound fx work well for their purpose.

The levels are well made, and do a good job of introducing the player to different aspects of the mechanic as you go along.

One thing that was kind of annoying was how sluggish the character is, I know it gets slower with your size, but it's just kind of tedious to have to move around the level so slowly, especially if you're redoing a level.

I also liked the art, it was cute, though there were some problems with seams showing between tiles sometimes.

nice game guys!

The Time Gnelf and the Quest for the Missing Golden Cogs by WFMG 2018-12-04T13:01:08Z

I'm not really sure where the connection to the theme is, I don't really see what sacrifice I'm making. And the slow motion ability isn't that useful since the jump is already *really* slow. I'm also not entirely sure why the player model does that weird scaling thing when you stop, a bug? The story part kept replaying on every scene load too.

There was also only one sound in the game and I don't think it worked amazingly as a jump sound when the jump was so slow.

The platforming wasn't bad, and the movement felt decent, but there didn't seem like any reason to or reward for collecting the cogs.

GOATWRATH by Fat cat 2018-12-04T13:28:24Z

First of all I like the art, it looks nice and is cohesive!

In terms of enemies some of them move so slowly that they honestly may as well be standing still, and they also generally feel like they have maybe too much health, it's not super satisfying to have to shoot them a dozen times to kill them. Also having them flash white or something when you hit them would make it feel better to shoot them.

It feels like maybe the player was purposely made under-powered to incentivize sacrificing, but it wasn't made clear what sacrificing people actually did for you, so I didn't do it at all on my first playthrough. And even once I did a run where I sacrificed everyone it still kinda felt like the enemies had a lot of health.

The sound was a little lackluster, there wasn't much of it, and the shooting/hit sound fx weren't bad but weren't very satisfying. Also if you can't put music in, even just a little ambient noise can go a long way.

The mechanics worked well though, and I didn't really have any trouble dodging around or shooting enemies, no real complaints there, though maybe aiming with the mouse makes slow/stationary enemies too easy to hit, since you can just keep your mouse on them while dodging around.

Vikrifice by Lucidus 2018-12-05T09:32:13Z

Fun game! the art and music is good and the mechanics feel pretty good, though the platforming feels a little slow, at times, especially with the short jump. Pretty well polished though, good job!

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-05T09:18:07Z

This is great! well polished, well made puzzles that explore the mechanics, good music and art. Found a little bug where if you hold down a direction and switch characters, both will be walking at the same time.

No real major issues with it though, great game!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Upset Crab by 43sam 2021-04-26T03:23:13Z

The art and sound is good! The attacks feel satisfying, though it's a little annoying how the crab stands still for so long after attacking, and there are a lot of potions so you can kinda tank everything. It's fun though!

STARPOON by RedSPINE 2021-04-26T03:15:40Z

Cute game! though there didn't seem to be much of an overall goal or measure of progress

memories.io - A Living Painting by NamidaSai 2021-04-26T03:30:24Z

Wasn't entirely sure what I was supposed to be doing, but the mood this game has is really nice

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

RootNote by djfariel 2018-04-24T05:55:37Z

IT'S SO HARD! I've managed to get up to wendigo, but I still haven't won.

The art style is nice and the music works for the game, though it doesn't really feel like a rhythm game, as playing on the beat isn't really a part of it. It's really hard to focus on both the note hitting section and the top RPG section, so it's nice that there are sound effects for things like when your attack is ready.

idk if it's just me, but the controls also feel really unintuitive. having the four directional arrows lined up vertically just doesn't make sense to my brain and I always mess up L/R arrows, but again, maybe that's just me.

I had fun with it! played it for a while before I could even get to wendigo!

Rhythm Quest by achebit 2018-04-24T08:02:55Z

REALLY FUN! Died to azazel, but I'll be playing this again. Everything is so well done, the art, music, gameplay, everything fits and works well.

My only small gripe is that I feel the shield sound should be more metallic and not the sound of a basketball bouncing. It also occasionally feels like I hit a note but it doesn't register, not super common though.

Really love it though! my favorite so far!

discardagain by blackoptics8 2018-04-24T03:44:17Z

It was a little annoying that I had to go into the settings of my controller manager and change some stuff for it to stop detecting my controller. Would've been nice to just be able to choose between 2P and AI.

Aside from that, fun game! Great simple concept and the hand animation is silly but fitting. The music is nice, and the sound effects fit well. The AI is a little weird sometimes, but generally works well.

fun little game!

PE@CE by bwalter 2018-04-24T10:11:20Z

Cool platformer game, though the controls are a bit too floaty and the death animation is way too long and annoying.

I don't really see how this fits the theme at all, it's just a platformer.

I really like the artstyle though!

Zig-Pong by BathPirate 2018-04-25T11:38:29Z

Really awesome aesthetic with the post shader and music, the gameplay is simple but fun, like a simple flash game or a mobile game.

I don't really see what the theme mixing is, seems a little weak in that respect.

Again, the graphics and audio are really impressive, they all work together really well, those cymbals just need to be turned down in the mix.

I don't see why you haven't opted out of humour, it doesn't seem to be trying to be funny at all.

'Lil Lost Squashy by bram_ve 2018-04-24T08:40:50Z

Interesting concept, I thought some of the animations were funny like when you write 'end', works pretty smooth but could use some more polishing.

Rythm is Lava by egordorichev 2018-04-24T02:51:44Z

One problem I had was that I would glitch through walls sometimes. It happened on one level where I would jump up and left into a corner and would glitch to the other side.

Otherwise, great game! Looks great and it has interesting (and hard) puzzles!

I remember seeing you posting the visualizations for the lava in discord, and it looks really good!

CityDefense by JOrbits 2018-04-24T07:41:39Z

quite fun! I like the art style a lot.

The sound fx and music are good, but the SFX get really repetitive after a while.

The gameplay also seems pretty unbalanced, the missile turrets seem pretty useless as whatever they shoot at is killed before the missile gets there, and the game is pretty easy overall, you can build a heap of laser turrets and never worry about a thing, I don't think one of my buildings ever died.

I had fun playing it though! it's a nice little game, just had a couple little gripes.

Runs pretty smoothly too, this was my final build and it wasn't lagging City Defender.png

Tharkarys Invasion - Last Line of Defense by Fil089 2018-04-26T08:59:56Z

I was holding shift the entire time, because the player is too floaty and bounces around from things way too much, it's as if this was a pinball game.

There are also way too many enemies spawning at the start, the gun on the ship doesn't shoot fast enough to keep up. The fire rate on the gun should be faster anyways, it'd be better for game feel.

After you get 6 turrets there isn't really much else to do in terms of tower defense, you just keep shooting enemies over and over.

Interesting concept, but needs more polish.

Vinyl Boy by flix 2018-04-24T04:44:46Z

I really like it! The atmosphere is great, the ambience and sound effects really fit, and the art style is quite nice.

The puzzles are fairly simple, but it's a nice demo, it's quite nice!

Feed the Beat by Benstar 2018-04-27T01:44:02Z

The style is really good! the art and music is well made and works well together!

Had a couple problems though. Idk if it's just the web player, but sometimes it wouldn't pick up my input. Also the sound that plays when you hit a note is waaaay too long; for a rhythm game, you want a short, sharp sound to play when you hit a note, so the player gets perfectly timed feedback for their hit. A longer sound without a very evident transient at the start makes the feedback less accurate.

Those are some more minor problems though and I really like the concept though, interesting mix of genres and well polished.

Checkmate by aevek 2018-04-25T08:32:08Z

Really cool concept! and it was executed well.

The graphics though, the models are cool, but they seem waaaaaaaay too high poly in some cases, and you have SO many lights in the level, but the overall lighting isn't great. This leads to performance being super low relative to the quality of the graphics.

besides that though, the game is really fun and made quite well!

Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-04-24T04:29:45Z

really fun game! spent a long time trying to beat it, but I think it really may be impossible.

The level of polish on this is great, really love the art, sound and gameplay. Still don't quite understand exactly when and why they move downward though.

Had a lot of fun with it and it was well made!

Harvest Blood Moon by evandowning 2018-04-26T08:14:42Z

Interesting concept mixing farming and tower defense, it was very hectic and kind of hard.

It was kind of annoying that using/picking up items didn't really work well sometimes, it seemed like you needed to be perfectly lined up to use things properly, which is annoying in a fast paced game.

It also seems maybe too hard. You need to keep walking back and forth to pick up the tools, but the zombies move so fast that they destroy things before you can pick up axe > walk to get wood > walk back > pick up hammer > build something.

Dangerous Gold by Kensou 2018-04-24T10:32:05Z

Nice game! really hard!

The controls work really well though, I like the lava effect, and the music is basic but charming.

Just some more polishing with the art and sound effects would be nice.

Guns N' Goals by emf31 2018-04-24T09:13:36Z

562MB wow...

I think the sensitivity for looking around should be increased and the bounciness of the ball should be decreased. The aiming and shooting stuff was implemented well though.

41_2 by Mithost 2018-04-26T08:04:14Z

Cool concept, I liked the style and mood, and the persistent colors through the level was cool.

The controls didn't work sometimes when I pressed them, but not a big deal on a turn based game. Could've done with ramping up the difficulty even more for the later levels. They did get harder, but it was like going from beginner to easy difficulty.

Cardcade by Simon Rahnasto 2018-04-26T04:27:07Z

The art and music for this are really good, the gameplay is fun and works well, and it achieves a good overall mood.

There are some QOL changes that I think would be good though.

- Would be nice to be able to move in the menu with wasd and not just arrow keys, and probably mouse control too since this is a game that uses the mouse a lot.

- E as an option to open inventory would be nice as it's closer to wasd,

- Moving while casting cards? I don't really see a reason for being forced to stand still. I found being at the top of the stage is really advantageous as then you can drag a card a minimum distance to cast it, while if you are at the bottom, you have to drag the card much further to cast.

- Some more enemy variety would be nice, it's just 3 enemies that all just move toward you in the same way

- It might be interesting to make the deck work like an actual deck and you use up your cards instead of it just being a random chance. Then it can reset once you use all your cards, or you could have cards that revive dead cards etc.

Obviously there is a big time constraint for this Jam, and I think this game is really great for a Jam game, but those are things I think could improve future versions.

HomicIDLE by Luke Brown 2018-04-24T08:45:02Z

Bugged out sometimes like when I bought the sword, it spawned on my feet and made it way harder to hit people.

Cute story and funny sound effects, could use more polishing.

Neon Space by SMILEY_4_ 2018-04-24T09:52:08Z

Good concept! definitely starts getting quite hard as you get further along. I really like the large amount of strategy available from just 3 abilities. The art style is also great and the sound fx work well, it'd be good if it also had music playing!

really had fun with it.

Super Hyperspace Rythm Plus Ultra by Kichex 2018-04-24T04:58:10Z

Really cool concept! The yellow enemies can be really hard to hit sometimes with how fast they move, but it's really fun!

The music is good and the graphics are really pretty! Thought the shooting effect of the player looks a little weird and the bloom can get a little distracting.

Overall, really fun game! and interesting concept.

Skeletons and Fireballs by snarf2000 2018-04-24T09:18:00Z

fair job for 3 hours, though the music gets a little repetitive after a while. The smiley faces were surprisingly really comforting when I won.

NEED FOR DEFENSE by trulyspinach 2018-04-24T06:05:47Z

Cool concept! The art style is nice, and while the mechanics are simple, they work well.

It would be nice if the price of the defenses was on the icon. Also the camera moves in really weird ways and gets shaky sometimes, kinda made me feel sick.

it was a fun little game though! it was cool

Manic Tower by Ashtrail 2018-04-25T08:08:36Z

The idea is definitely interesting, it's definitely not something I'd expect to be mixed.

I feel like the player bullets should maybe be faster, it feels weird to move and have to wait a seconds for the bullets to catch up. I don't really play bullet hells, but I believe they usually make your attack able to be upgraded? that would've been good to see.

The anti-tower-defense mechanic is interesting, but feels a bit weird, because I don't know why my character would want to help the boss?

On the topic of the boss, it would've been cool to see him do different attacks in the different stages, instead of just more of the same ones.

In terms of art, a little bit of animation on the characters and making the background scroll to look like you're moving would've made it look much more alive.

For audio, there weren't really any sound fx besides when those fruit bombs pop, it really could've used sound effects for shooting and hitting.

The idea is cool, and the main bullet-hell mechanics work well, I never felt like the hitboxes were unfair. Could just use some polishing around the edges.

CARED by Time Loop 2018-04-24T10:22:24Z

the art and music is really good! the gameplay is a bit lackluster though, the animations are slow and unresponsive, and the collisions are buggy, especially with melee. Jumping onto platforms also didn't seem to work sometimes.

The atmosphere was really great, but the gameplay needs some polishing.

FARMACY by Rawrasaur 2018-04-24T08:35:48Z

Interesting idea but needs more work. I never needed to pick fruit because my amount never went down when attacking. And you can just walk around enemies, there's no reason to fight them. I also had my health go to 0 without dying.

The idea was unique, but could do with more time to make it better.

Grenade Golf by pickledbrain 2018-04-26T08:51:18Z

You were right, golf with explosions is definitely more fun, though the realistic explosion VFX looked a bit out of place with the rest of the game.

The visuals and audio could use more content, maybe add some music, and make the player more than just a default capsule.

The UI and grenade shooting indicators all looks really good though!

To the days with you, Piano by Luciax 2018-04-24T04:01:45Z

Interesting idea!

It's hard to focus on both playing the piano and trying to dodge the enemies at the same time. I also couldn't seem to shoot the enemies since my bullets just hit their bullets.

The sounds for the piano are also really rough and harsh.

nice concept, but could use polishing!

Medieval Melody Mayhem by NoahRo 2018-04-24T08:48:03Z

Cool little concept, I feel like it's a little hard though. Could also use some polish with things like animations on the enemies, and some music.

interesting take on the theme though.

Rhythm Card Hero by gogu 2018-04-26T09:05:28Z

Took me a while to figure out, but once I did, the mechanics worked pretty well.

Just needs more polish, some music, sound effects for the cards, and more cohesive art style would be good.

But again, the game works well, and fits the theme.

Stutter by Jisam 2018-04-26T09:23:16Z

The environment design was great! and the audio worked really well with the atmosphere.

The gameplay was a bit lacking though, jump across platforms wasn't very easy and the walking felt quite clunky. Also the words were very hard to find and hit in time, maybe that's what you wanted to fit the story? I don't know.

The story is an interesting one, and it is definitely helped a lot by the mood of the environment, but the english is not perfect.

The concept is really cool though, and again, that environment is great. Good job!

Ms Grunhilde's Sandwiches by pparadigm 2018-04-24T08:14:56Z

The mechanics that are there work really well, it's just a little simple.

cute game though!

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-25T09:46:05Z

The art design is really good, and the gameplay feels great.

But the rhythm feels off. The music is way too quiet, you can't hear it over the SFX sometimes. I also believe the rhythm is off time. The UI doesn't move properly in time with the music (off by a whole 1/8th it seems), and when I tap perfectly in time it doesn't work consistently.

I play a lot of rhythm games and am a musician myself, and the rhythm just feels off. You may need to increase the time period in which the player can hit the note. There should be at least like a few hundred milliseconds.

Beat Boxer by jaredmercer 2018-04-24T02:58:32Z

The music leaves a lot to be desired. It's kinda lacking in quality, and is also way too short; It's not great to listen to a 5 second loop for a 5 minute fight.

The beats also don't really feel like they're working with the music. It kinda feels more like I'm just watching the notes instead of playing to the beat of the song.

The art style is nice though, and it was an interesting concept.

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-04-25T03:58:36Z

Freaking amazing! Excelent work, wanna check ours too?? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/fish-fighter

It seems you guys are just spamming to try and game the system, are you even rating other people's games properly, or just giving dummy replies? This makes our community look really bad.

Fallen Leaves by LemonBalmGames 2018-04-24T08:56:43Z

The art style is nice, but the puzzles are pretty simple, you just have to find the one item that's different in the area.

LD41 -Fishmup by Tatazaki 2018-04-24T03:06:24Z

I don't really understand the game. If I shoot a fish it dies, I can't catch it, and it just keeps coming across the screen while dead. If I don't shoot the fish, I can catch it, go to the top of the screen and then the game is over?

Wordslide by TravisChen 2018-04-24T07:51:17Z

Really interesting concept, and it works really well! besides a couple times that I got stuck in a wall, it works really smoothly. The art style is also really cool! though the music is a bit repetitive.

Nice game overall! really like it.

00Boyfriend - A Spy's Dating Sim by SamStallion 2018-04-26T03:34:47Z

Really good polish! The music and audio design are really well done, the game feel is great, the mechanics all work well, animation is done well, good all around.

Would've liked to see the text messages repeat less often, and it felt kind of easy to find a safe spot to send them, but those are small problems. Great game!

Super Platformer RPG by Silent Tower Games 2018-04-24T09:04:21Z

The RPG system is integrated well, but it's a bit simplistic, you just use strong attack > weak attack > strong attack > weak attack over and over. The platforming section was also kind of annoying since the jump is so short.

The art style is nice, but it could probably use some music or something.

Par 99 by notnullnotvoid 2018-04-24T03:30:31Z

I really like the atmosphere! the music and sound effects are really good! though the music stopped at some point and didn't restart.

Ended up taking me 206 shots to finish, but it was really fun! I got a little lost a couple times, but the world does a good job of making sure you don't go down the wrong path while also not forcing you.

The upgrades are also well thought out and add fun mechanics to the game. The world is also really nice to explore and the art style is great. It's a little hard to tell the difference between flat ground and hills sometimes, but not a big deal.

I really like it!
