PLayed this one for quite a while, very fun!
Impressed with the graphic style and fx. Oh and the music.
very inspired art style, sound effects became annoying quickly with all those laser turrets, anyway nice entry, i would have liked to see more upgrades and such, was a bit disappointed when i found out lab was end of the game and not an upgrade :D
I actually won a game! Brilliant, although I would've like to see whether I have enough resources to build something.
Simple but awesome and addicting game with great artstyle. However, seeing if i can buy sth or not would be nice, but thats only a minor criticism :)
Great game, quite addicting. Love the art style.
quite fun! I like the art style a lot.
The sound fx and music are good, but the SFX get really repetitive after a while.
The gameplay also seems pretty unbalanced, the missile turrets seem pretty useless as whatever they shoot at is killed before the missile gets there, and the game is pretty easy overall, you can build a heap of laser turrets and never worry about a thing, I don't think one of my buildings ever died.
I had fun playing it though! it's a nice little game, just had a couple little gripes.
Runs pretty smoothly too, this was my final build and it wasn't lagging City Defender.png
This is great! I keep coming back to it :-)
Great combination. I have made a bullet hell for the enemy. XD
Really nice game, enjoyed pew-pewing everything to death
40 mins well spent
This is actually a lot of fun to play. Not very hard to reach the win condition, but after that, just build more and more laser guns and rocket launchers and the slaughter is on. :D
I really enjoyed this one! The art style was the highlight, and the music/sfx was great too - at least, until it started glitching because there were so many lasers/explosions :D
My only (minor) criticism is that even when tons of enemies were spawning, it never seemed like my town was in danger. Besides that, this game was really fun - great job!
Great little game ! I love city builders and mixed with tower defense it can be really nice! ^^ Well done on making this little game, had a lot of fun playing it.
Really nice game but a bit too easy. I managed to get the laboratory within like 3 mins but I went on until my defense was so good that I couldn't see the enemies before they were dead. The style of the game is really fitting and the gameplay feels smooth. Great work!

Oh, p.s. I added you to the "Favourite picks Ludum Dare 41" list on my profile
The great is and looks great! I wish you could zoom in and such, since after a while, the city covers the entire map.. But nevertheless it was a great game! Good job!
Had a ton of fun with this, and loved the art style. Even the blurring around the edges is a really cool effect - nicely done!
Wow, nice one! Graphics and sound are on-point, though I feel the out-of-phase effect on the graphics is a bit strong. I liked how this game deepens the tower defense genre by blending in city building / resource management, so points for theme.
The idea and the execution are great! The concept is worth exploring. Really good job, would love to see this much more developed :)
Very nice game with great visuals. The game could be a bit more challenging, right now it is pretty easy, but also really relaxing.
I played this game on stream last night, here is the VOD:

Thanks for making this game!
It's a cozy title, I found myself wanting quite a bit more on this, and I hope that you continue working on this title. Mechanically, this is a superb game.
It was very hard to stop playing this game. The satisfying sound when you hit the tanks.. soo good. The effects when you zoom out. Its great. I can imagine some people may prefer a hard or a super-hard mode... including me. Great Game!!!
Nice game, wasn't too difficult, but in the start it was quite fun to figure out the mechanics. Great visuals. Play my game if you have time, it's an RTS+Clicker.
I think everyone has commended the art style ... I'll do the same. Good audio. Not so great on the theme(Tower defense + city builder = RTS, not exactly incompatible😁), but fun is more important. You should add some more objectives in a future build, or maybe higher difficulty levels for replay-ability.
Gosh, this game is absolutely gorgeous and runs so smooth. Excellent job on the aesthetic and feel! Those explosions are so satisfying to watch.
Just a few minor points of a critique:
- The laser turrets seem to shoot past small enemies slightly. This doesn't affect the logic of the collision at all, but it visually looks like the laser is hitting past the enemy, rather than directly on it. If this is intentional, to show that the laser is going through the enemy, then ignore this. But if not, maybe the laser is firing to where the enemy *was*, rather than the enemy *will be*, which is causing that. - It would be nice if there was a visual indicator that showed what things I can afford to purchase at any given moment. My eyes had to dart left and right a lot to tell what I could or couldn't build. Maybe the buttons are red until you can afford them, and then they turn teal/blue.
Overall, amazingly well done, congrats!
Webp.net-resizeimage.jpg That was a nice stress test! Great visual style, lots of fun, and a cool atmosphere. I guess my issue is that I would prefer buttons and counters to be all on one side of the screen instead of having to dart my eyes left and right, but I eventually settled on a rhythm of click each button and build as much as you can of what's possible, which probably isn't very strategic gameplay. Also with tower defenses usually the tower placement is the bit that provides some depth but here I'm not feeling that there is much other than encircle your base. Otherwise, a solid entry!
The game looks really great, the music is very nice too and overall it's a solid game basis. I do think it could benefit a lot from polishing and a few features more.
Indeed as it stands the game readability isn't the best. It takes a while to understand the game mechanics, and quite a bit longer to get that the resources aren't generated based on time. There's also a lot going on screen which can make it hard to focus on what is important.
A pause mode or at least a slow mo could be cool (would need time based resources or would be too easy). When you don't have enough resources to build a building it would be very nice if the resources you're missing blinked in red or something, to know which resources is lacking. It's a bit tedious to parse writings on the screen as a hundred explosions are going on.
I'd like to be able to understand better what each building does too (like a flavor text when you hover on the building button) that would blend nicely with slow mo to, giving you a better understanding of what you are doing.
The further you play the more the music is drowned by the SFX (with default settings) I guess you can change that in the menu beforehand, but it lowers the readability too.
I feel like there's much to expand on in an interesting way, if you're interested in continuing working on this project.
This may seem like a pretty negative review but it's more based on what it could be than what it is at the moment : ie a very good compo entry, that runs well and has a very nice aesthetics to it. Good job !
Really enjoyed the game, played it until I won and then a little longer. I had the feeling that the missile tower I bought was a bad investment, the laser turrents were much faster in killing the enemies and the missiles often found their target already destroyed. The missile explosion on an enemy seems to be a bit too early, which amplifies this effect. The music loop is simple, but fitting and I was fine listening to it for the time playing. I'm not so sure about the novelty of the theme, because games like Dune II already came with the builder / tactical combat combination, the two components fit well together!
Pretty fun and addicting!!
Very fun, and the visuals are beautiful!
Great entry, with some balance tweaks and expansion on the tech tree this could be a solid game! The city building/strategy combo reminded me of They Are Billions, which is great. +1 to the "would be cool if we could see what we could afford" suggestions.
Interesting entry, but I think is too easy, I build some basic city and keep it as it. It handle defense for 5 minutes without my activity maybe more.
But combination is interesting, I like your simple graphic style.
I really liked the game, fun and addicting! I loved the art style, and the SFX and music were really nice. The only thing was that its a bit easy, a difficulty slider to adjust the spawn rate would have been really good. Overall a great game, good job!
Music is pretty good! For now the game is quite easy, but interesting. I hope you'll continue the dev :)
Extremely engaging game! It was a very nice balancing act between all your resources. And the last leg of it (building juuuuuust enough factories to make it to the last building safely) was pretty intense. Sure the game is relatively easy if you take your time, but put a time limit on it and you have something very challenging on hand.
Absolutely addictive this game. I loved the lowpoly art, simple but very pretty. Congratulations!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
