LD38 — A Small World

Endless Hexagon by David Cookie 2017-05-11T12:16:11Z

Good puzzle game with a mechanic that fits with the theme. I liked the pixelated transitions from menu to game. Graphics were nice, although I felt that the later tiles (from prosperous city onwards) were much more stylized than the earlier ones, ie plain field looks like a plain field, but prosperous city looks like a menacing blob which on conveys the sense of over-development without showing any buildings or roads. Either the earlier tiles should be more stylized (nice green tiles) or the later tiles should be more detailed. It would be nice to have some sort of feedback before you click a tile warning you that you are about to use up you recycle option - maybe highlight the tiles effected as the mouse hovers over it.

Invasion - The Chronicle by Kappa.B 2017-05-02T12:40:04Z

Great concept, deck builder/planet defense, but controls not quite intuitive enough. Graphics pretty cool (UFOs had a bit of a Beatles yellow submarine vibe to them)

The Village Helpers by Z4F1 2017-05-03T12:42:25Z

Good game, but I got caught by the store window not closing also ( which also stops mouse look from working) I agree with all of Connor's suggestions, they will add some great polish to the game.

Pineshore Planet by thomz12 2017-05-02T12:35:28Z

Liked this one a lot. Music was great. Clever mix of 3d with the pixel art. Gameplay is fun but a bit linear, would like to see this one expanded to have a bit of Monkey Island style combining objects to get solutions.

Factions by frenchie 2017-05-04T12:42:57Z

Great job. Theme song is stuck in my head. Visual style good. Game mechanic is simple to understand, and difficulty ramps up with each level.

Tiny Parkour Dude by little-burrito 2017-05-03T13:26:41Z

Loved the audio. Ending made me laugh.

Binary Glitch by JOrbits 2017-05-06T12:32:54Z

Good original game mechanic. Neat, simple graphics suited the game style. Catchy tune to accompany the action. Difficulty increases at a good rate. Annoying to die for not moving at the start. Perhaps better to wait until player makes his first move before apply that rule, and starting the enemy waves.

Road Ja Vu by sn0uk 2017-05-05T08:26:04Z

This is pretty good. I wish you could land on the roofs of the buildings. Seems to be a bug when you return from help screen - controls don't seem to work anymore.

Nano : The Mission by psychopsam 2017-05-03T13:07:36Z

I liked this one. The difficulty level makes it the addictive sort of thing you'd keep playing until you rescued all humans - if you didn't have a hundred other LD games to get thru before judging ends! Cool graphics - suits the premise as a nano machine would be made of chunky molecule machines.

Planetoid Escape by shockeye 2017-04-30T00:25:40Z

Fixed.

Planetoid Escape by shockeye 2017-05-03T13:29:14Z

No there's no audio - that white noise is bug. I'll have to play it again to hear that, I never had my earphones on when testing, so I haven't noticed it.

Planetoid Escape by shockeye 2017-05-06T07:37:59Z

Thanks for feedback. Yeah, if I hadn't run out of time the rocket would have taken you home (or to another level) The sky box was black but I had to change the camera at one point toward the end and forgot to change the colour of the new cameras background. I need to really work on the controls, and movement speed. It was my first ever Ludum Dare, so hopefully I'll learn from my mistakes. Thanks!

Grow Little Planet by jin47 2017-05-05T08:46:10Z

Controls good. I really like that there were visible retro-rockets for stopping. The objective compass pointers were a thoughtful feature - would be unplayable trying to find asteroids by chance. Would have preferred there was some additional challenge like a time limit or fuel limit or something. As it is victory just requires persistence.

a-small-world by PaperclipBadger 2017-05-02T12:45:54Z

Original idea, I'd say. Never heard of a comic timing mechanic before. I don't think we're at the stage in AI research that computer program is in a position to judge us yet.

Room Number by Ayush Singla 2017-05-07T07:32:17Z

Nice crisp graphical style meshed well with the puzzles. As noted by others, the rules regarding the boxes were not obvious enough. But game was enjoyable, would be nice to play it again with more levels and additional puzzle elements. Maybe a movable section of path or something.

Meteorealm by Swanito 2017-05-05T09:05:26Z

Nice graphic, good audio, wish it wasn't a no-win scenario, although I get the point.

My Very Own World by SpaceSparkle 2017-05-05T09:02:26Z

Very attractive game. A bit hard to get into it in the short time I have, but I like a good turn based strategy so could be great once I've had a chance to play it some more. Extra credit for the volume control on front menu!

Talkies by Bernhard 2017-05-07T09:28:06Z

Fits the theme well, nice graphics, tune fits the theme perfectly. Game-play very original. Difficulty increases well with each stage. Good that there was a tutorial. I agree with tompudding about adding some more limits, either a time limit or restrictions on moving connected people. Or having a scoring system where the fewer moves made gets more points.

Weird Cubes by Justus Pousi 2017-05-19T11:12:17Z

Interesting puzzler. I've not seen that mechanic before. The biggest flaw I found was the absence of a clear marker to where the goal is. Made the second puzzle quite confusing until I happened to glimpse the goal while falling. I didn't have issues with the controls, I felt they suited the nature of the puzzle. Jumping is a little awkward, but that just forces you to plan carefully your solution. Graphically the levels looked nice, the play character could be improved in later releases.

LD42 — Running out of space

Bag of Devouring by Ilseroth 2018-08-14T06:08:29Z

Fun. Some of the best art I've seen so far. Good sound effects too. CHOMP! My only gripe is on Windows version the long window frame goes off my screen. Probably my fault for having a too low-res screen, but still, you should maybe handle any resolution.

Rising Tide by smilewood 2018-08-13T08:54:40Z

Quite a fun balancing act get the different building types to work together.

A hero's journey by Minemes 2018-08-14T05:43:50Z

What Lefinno said. +

Brick In by shockeye 2018-08-14T05:06:08Z

Yeah, I realize I needed to work on the controls. I think a bit of damping of acceleration maybe?

604? I got much higher scores during the time there was a bug in the score system 😃 Ha ha. Spotted that just before release!

Brick In by shockeye 2018-08-14T06:15:33Z

I actually wanted to make a combo system, where multiple bounces would get more points. And a "juggler" achievement for alternate multi-bouncing 2 bricks. But I was too tired and lazy and my eyes hurt from looking at a screen all weekend! That's also why no audio.

Rainforest by SimoGecko 2018-08-26T08:08:26Z

Good looking game. Controls are a bit tricky. It would be nice if you could zoom the camera out so you can see the whole area. Good use of the theme, at multiple layers with the cart running out of room & the shelves also running out of space. I like that you included different difficulty levels and a high score list. Very professional.

CAVEMAN by Subsage 2018-08-16T01:06:05Z

Haven't played yet, but just a note, your HTML build on your itchio page is set up as a download instead of play in browser. You should fix that. Anyway, I've downloaded it. I'll be back with my feedback shortly.🤔

CAVEMAN by Subsage 2018-08-16T01:07:52Z

**ERROR**: Failed loading file 'CAVEMAN.pck'☹️

Geobreak by klekky 2018-08-14T04:37:12Z

Good use of the them. Also fun game play. Needs the start to be more obvious, it took me a while to realize I needed to trigger the first wave manually.

Last Piece by WetBox 2018-08-17T04:59:15Z

Very good looking game, interesting mechanic. Audio is good also, sets the mood well. It seems like you were really hoping for the theme "Floating Islands" to get picked this time!

Hiding Spot by toboggan 2018-08-26T10:13:01Z

Cool interpretation of the them. Good atmosphere, audio complementing the concept. Nice art. I think level 4 should be level 3 and vice versa though in terms of puzzle progression.

Inventory is full by GDLuke 2018-08-13T11:43:59Z

I didn't see any bugs when I played. Graphics good, music good although repetitive after a while. As everyone else has mentioned, using items is not really intuitive. Also, I would suggest that item pick up be automatic - game over when inventory is full. This would suit the theme even better. As it is you can just ignore stuff that won't fit.

Alchemist's Apprentice by zachw136 2018-08-13T08:07:34Z

Potion of Steak ?! Great audio. A lot of fun. I'd like more indication of which potions a more valuable. I see a broken bottle score but no tally of your current score. Good graphics, controls are fun.

Camp Snuggle by Scott Steffes 2018-08-14T04:59:44Z

This is a very polished game. Graphics and audio are great, fun mechanic. So many different factors to tweak to keep the old dudes happy.

Rey Trace by WiredOverload 2018-08-17T05:45:30Z

Ok, this is great. Such a clever mechanic to answer the theme. Graphics a simple but perfectly suit the game. Music is good too.

Temple Trap - The Game! by Jasper Hansen 2018-08-13T06:56:22Z

Good concept. Just needs the monsters to chase you aggressively at the start to get things going.

Courier Panic! by SeaFishelle 2018-08-13T07:28:35Z

Music was catchy. Difficulty level a bit high for me. Could have done with reverse gear on that van.

Masao Adventure by ayhangazi 2018-08-13T07:05:41Z

@Kristov: Got the controller on second play through! Need to stop before the edge to pick it up.

I like the music, set the mood of urgency well.

Countdown by Elnu 2018-08-14T01:54:29Z

Concept is a good take on the theme. The controls are a bit fiddly. I think it would be better without gravity, so it would be more tactical as you could move across the screen trying to find the best hex region. As it is you are just frantically jumping around, and top of screen gets little use.

Space Debris by Mallapa 2018-08-13T06:46:52Z

Nice artwork. Especially the title screen. I don't if its a bug or a feature, but if you fire too many times too quickly, you can't shoot anymore.

Zlinx by frontlinesaint 2018-08-22T11:38:31Z

Nice looking game with good moody music. Game-play was good, all though I didn't get far due to my poor reflexes. Suited the theme well. Took me many goes before I realized there was a double/triple jump. (I know it's mentioned in the instructions ... didn't read them until I saw I wasn't getting anywhere) I played the html5 version and the window size was a little big, right-hand side was a bit out of frame. But I switched to full screen and then it was ok.

Mindlapse by Vulture_42 2018-08-16T01:37:53Z

Good game. The mechanic of rebuilding the room with the bricks really suits the theme.

Space To Breathe by kirb 2018-08-13T07:30:12Z

No links?

grindatron.tv by Donitz 2018-08-14T05:57:11Z

Good game mechanic, level progression well designed. Each level teaches you tactics that serve you well on the next. (for example, the rebound jump technique) AI is good (I learnt that jump from watching AI do it) Simple graphics suit the game.

GRIDLOCKED by bradleypollard 2018-08-16T02:12:26Z

Nice puzzler. Bit awkward to work out the interface. Took me a while to understand wired mode ... I had to go back and read the instructions. I think you should have just made it so any time to click on the outputs you can drag out a connections. Visually it has neat and tidy design.

King of Bjorp by Colin Doody 2018-08-16T01:22:57Z

Good concept, well presented. I appreciate the provision of AI opponents, even though its mostly intended for multiplayer. That's a good decision in terms of Ludum Dare, as a pure multiplayer game would maybe not get many judging results no matter how good due to a smaller pool of players (i.e those who can organize some others to play with)

California Jane by fivenamefivesocks 2018-08-22T12:15:40Z

Slick looking game. Lots of levels, with good puzzle difficulty progression, new features added and explained. Soundtrack good, too.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

CityDefense by JOrbits 2018-04-27T00:01:18Z

I think everyone has commended the art style ... I'll do the same. Good audio. Not so great on the theme(Tower defense + city builder = RTS, not exactly incompatible😁), but fun is more important. You should add some more objectives in a future build, or maybe higher difficulty levels for replay-ability.

High Explosive Stealth by Fred Aberg 2018-05-06T10:39:44Z

Good idea, nice low poly art, sound of wind blowing set the mood well. More levels would be good. But please don't put your game in a file called LD41.zip! We've got to download and unzip 3000 games to judge and really helps if they don't all have the same name.😀 HES.zip would have been great!

Stand Clear, Doors Closing by shockeye 2018-04-21T04:31:20Z

Looks like I'll be doing a Battle Royale / Single-Player Physics Puzzler

Stand Clear, Doors Closing by shockeye 2018-04-27T08:33:42Z

Thanks for feed back. Need to fix that mouse. If I'd had time there was going to be warning lighting in rooms about to lock. As it is you have to use the mini-map, which I guess isn't as clear. I should have put in a compass as well.

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-05-02T09:56:31Z

Great game. Original and clever use of theme.

Peculiar Adventures of Dorothy Hops by detectiveLosos 2018-04-27T00:11:52Z

Nice concept, well presented. Difficulty a bit high for someone slow like me, like MZA, I too cannot multitask. I would have preferred to quest prompts at the top of the screen, I think, 'coz look down and to the left didn't help my ability to follow the action part of the game.

SSSS by PlusMinus 2018-04-26T23:08:19Z

Great graphics, sound. Objectives not clear.

Tetratower by kokirisandfriends 2018-05-07T11:07:01Z

Very polished entry. Graphics are top notch. Game play is fun and frantic, very difficult to balance handling the attackers from both sides. Good application of the theme.

Math Blast! by Joe Zabriskie 2018-04-27T08:43:37Z

Fun. Ditto on the dynamic equations. Sound effects are cool!

Shady Cards by Yozamu 2018-04-26T07:24:43Z

Liked the art, very atmospheric. Game play was a little confusing, but that may be because I don't play poker. Good audio, music matches the pace of the game. I problem I found was I couldn't exit the game once started. You should have a pause menu when you hit ESC so you can get back to main menu to quit. The end user shouldn't have to ALT-TAB and close window to exit

Shady Cards by Yozamu 2018-04-27T00:13:21Z

TAB, got it. Thanks!
