Cool idea about climate change! Good job for the attempt I think with a bit more time you would have had a really cool game.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD42 → Rising Tide

I can't figure out how to build factories :disappointed:
@squirmonkey To build factories you need to have at least two houses per factory. When you click on an empty space all of the options are there (I didn’t have time to grey out buildings when you couldn’t build them), but you need two houses per factory and one store per three houses. I hope that helps!
Kinda confusing at first. Am with what @sean-doyle said,
I couldn't seem to build a factory, and anything else I built just sent my funds nosediving into the negatives with nothing to do about it.
Bugged uploaded build, or am I just an idiot / missing something? (playing WebGL version)
@mrnyarlathotep To build factories you need to have at least two houses per factory. I guess I didn’t make that very clear in the instructions, but that is the restriction. I just tested the web build and I can build them, so I would guess that could be the problem. Also, the higher up the island you build the more expensive land is, so it could be possible that you just don’t have enough money for the factories.
@smilewood - ah, okay, thanks - it is me as an idiot then :p
e: and I feel like a double idiot because when I posted there weren't any comments visible, and when I came back you'd already explained it
Solid entry, the UI is cropped a bit (the Money label), otherwise it's a fun little game. Would be nice to rotate the camera since it's already in 3D.
Also thanks for making the game playable in the browser!
@squirmonkey Actually you have to build two houses to build factory, and each house will cost something every second, so if you take too much time you won't have enough money to build the factory, and the game is basically over.
It would be much easier to play if cash didn't drop so fast, it became more a speed game than a strategy game, and I don't think it was the intended experience.
But t was quite a good idea !
Ah, indeed. I didn't realize that where you built them changed the cost, and I was running out of money. I played it again and was able to build all the buildings. It's a pretty clever idea, but it seems to be a little buggy. For instance, after the sea swallowed up my first set of buildings, it didn't take away the income from my factories, and the display at the top right looked like this:
factoriesReadout.png
Fun idea, didn't have any problems winning without any planning so it could have been a little more challenging ;) Great Entry though! Also, it only says "YOU" after winning. I think you forgot the "Win" ;)
@squirmonkey Interesting... I don't know how either of those numbers could have gone negative, it should only have subtracted one from the current number each time one was destroyed. I will be taking a look at that tomorrow, although I don't think that it is a large enough bug to warrant rebuilding the game. I would guess that the -2 factories is a direct result of the -4 houses, but i don't know how houses went negative: probably something else was destroyed and subtracted from houses instead of what it was supposed to. Thanks for the feedback!
The mountain looks nice. And you can place houses to the positions in the mountain. The graphics looks nice.
Couldn't build any factory because after 2 house, i ran out of money :(
very hard but was a fun entry well done
Very neat idea! I like how the elevation of the build spots had you consider where to build. There's definitely a lot of potential for this kind of game, like some kind of natural disaster focused SimCity.
As some people have mentioned there are many spots where building a house to begin with will prevent you from proceeding. The north-east area in the back seems to be the only viable place to start building houses and factories since the other low areas are just slightly too expensive. When the water started destroying houses I was still able to build past the maximum amount displayed in the population meters. I assume this has something to do with updating that UI properly since having the stores still hanging around allowed me to speed build on higher ground even though they were destroyed. (Maybe there's a delay period before they're considered destroyed?)
Overall though I enjoyed myself. Good job!
I like the concept and graphics. However, there are some glitches. Also, shouldn't it be "Ludum Dare 42" instead of "Ludum Dare 41" on the front page?
Hello, it's just a picture of an island when I run it, WASD doesn't do anything.
@mertios Yeah, I had the number 41 in my head when I was making that menu way too late at night last night. I found several "LD41"s in the game and fixed them, but I guess I missed one.
Overall I think you have a well made game, but the objective is kinda lacking as it just feels like all you do is click and build with out much motivation. Would love to see this worked on further!
Overall the concept is good, but I think there were bugs that prevented me from building houses to continue to build factories and science places. I think it is probably a little hard to get started.
Once I read two house one factory, I was able to get a nice lil island going... until the waters came. I think y'all nailed the theme in a unique and interesting way.
Hehe... I sorta like watching the world sink under the water. Also, I noticed I was able to have more houses than the displayed maximum.
Quite a fun balancing act get the different building types to work together.
I like it! Actually came back to play it a second time. It goes from too hard (not enough feedback) to too easy (more money than I know what to do with) too quickly. But in between it's very compelling! I'm especially proud of my mountaintop cluster of laboratories. Those elitist scientists in their ivory towers... saving the world!
Nice idea for this game, but UI and colors needs some tweak. The low difference between colors, makes the game less clear and appealing.
The structure is nice and solid, there are no bugs or big problem
The theme is well fitted
Sounds are ok, but it lacks of a proper soundtrack to create some mood
Nice overall entry!
Nice game, enjoyed it very much. Keep it up!
Awesome! Very good idea, I enjoyed it a lot.
Took a bit of time to figure out, but once I made sense of it it was pretty fun! I like the visuals, simple but easy to understand, and the sounds are great. The only issue I ever ran into was already mentioned above, with the negative numbers. Overall, I liked the concept and it fit the theme really well. Good work!
The idea is very great and fit perfectly to the theme. Game is fun but could be a bit more difficult, i managed to win once i understood prices depends on height. I had good time though, thanks!
few things could be fixed :
* end game popup says "you" ... i think it'd be "You win" because i reached 100% of science * too many SFX played for breaking cells and it overlaps badly * the "LD41" thing :-) it's minor but people may think part of the game was made previous to the jam :grimacing:
great job.
A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
The mac build hangs on the start screen and doesn't show the first dialogue.
