This is all very polished for as small of a timeframe as you had. was it just you or were there more people?

buddaccio 2018-08-14 22:07

Nice game! It was fun but also a bit too long, I think. I beat the game by building a lot of "Tier 1" depots and metal/energy producers and after the first 1/4 of the game, there was no longer problems. When a block was falling, I could create more than 6+ others blocks. That was a little game breaking.

skyrex 2018-08-15 11:20

This game is so absorbing. I planned only to test for a while but 10 minutes later I admit to myself that it was a couple o whiles more :D I liked that mechanic of falling tiles, it really sometimes make me angry :D

larkinia 2018-08-15 11:57

Had a lot of fun in the first few tries. At some point I developed the same strategy as @buddaccio and won the game by building and replacing tiles.

wetbox 2018-08-15 12:25

@mobiusdisco Thank you, we are really appreciate it. This time, five people worked on the creation of the game: two programmers, two artists and one gamedesigner/sound finder. And also thank you for your tweet =)

vaip 2018-08-15 13:58

Good!

moffkalast 2018-08-15 14:13

I like it, it's quite well done. I did find an exploit of sorts on my very first run however, as it does become somewhat obvious that the most outer blocks fall down - so you can just build out a long spike and work on the economy until you're basically in creative mode.

EN:

Advantages - Deep atmosphere - Challenge (try not to die) - An interesting idea

Disadvantages - Easy and boring - The upgrade mechanic does not work as it should: It is much more profitable to put a new building than to improve the old one. Since the place is not limited, and your goal is to make your island bigger, then putting a lot of buildings is not a problem. - The mechanics of the destruction of the island is not done: Destruction of the island will occur exactly in the direction in which you build it. It would be more interesting if it would collapse more unpredictably.

RU:

rustycrow 2018-08-15 19:27

Wow this game was very interesting, i started out panicked but figured out you can get a free turn because how the RNG block fall logic was set up. I want to say this game is very atmospheric and i love the idea you have here @wetbox like having a ship a destination and managing the ship to that destination. i really felt the Theme (which fitted very vell with your game ) almost held you back.

The visuals and audio is also impressiv for a 72 hour game, the ending sound track was very nice

My ship i call it skySword :frog: Size dosen't matter @moffkalast :frog: GGSkySword.PNG

gleb-shishov 2018-08-16 10:29

I think you need to make the interface a little less and not so massive. I could play more if there was training and not such a short time

kapiteinkoekwous 2018-08-16 12:20

GREAT game, really love the art style and idea! Although the game starts quite slow and doesn't explain enough (without having to resort to the '?' button), I kinda get the idea you were going for. Really nice concept, would love to see additional content and fixes! Keep it up! :D

borys 2018-08-16 15:31

I love atmosphere and music that making this atmosphere the most. Concept of this game is also very ingenious and nice matching with a theme. One thing I would change is camera rotating, because current one is little bit rough and maybe add more buildings, etc. Anyway, really nice game. Keep it up! Edit: Why is no audio rating here? Music is great!

garfilexx 2018-08-16 15:42

Great game! :) I love the art style of this game!

antonionp 2018-08-16 15:49

Good theme adaptation. Why graphics rating is disabled?Art is cool

lootgrounds 2018-08-16 15:52

Oh. I played an hour in this game until I stopped. It's really a simple, cool and complete game. It was nice to play it. I hope there will be a great release after.

amour-du-pain 2018-08-16 15:53

Beautiful idea and atmosphere ! Here are a few things I could point out: - The first sound effect when you start the game tragically destroyed my ears - People already said it, but it is too long considering the few buildings there are (which make the end ironic considering you ask if the player want to try a new strategy) - I was surprised that the metal factory cost that much metal and almost no energy, would'nt the opposite make more sense ?

Anyway, I'm more than impressed than you managed to finish a city builder during a jam, congrats !

runner-alien 2018-08-16 16:09

Game looks gorgeous!, i would love some pointers on how you got things looking so good!

zlabya 2018-08-16 16:45

The best game i've rated till now.

thefunattic 2018-08-16 16:46

This is a cool submission ! I wanted to show you the great city I built, but the game crashed when I alt+tabbed... :( I had great fun though !

The really strong aspects are the atmosphere and soundtrack, which is very catchy despite its simplicity, and charming graphics and UI. It all runs very smoothly and building is a pleasurable experience. Overall the esthetical experience was well executed.

The concept is really original as well, so I'd like to make some remarks about the game design :

1. The game seems to point to the Reactor as the reason why the player should accumulate resources : upgrade the reactor, go faster, get there quicker. However : - speed does not affect anything other than the time of arrival - survival solely depends on the ability to re-build the island, not on speed - the ability to re-build the island (blocks) costs the same resources as upgrading the reactor, which is really expensive

This all makes upgrading the Reactor a really poor choice, despite it being central to the island. A far better strategy is to never touch the reactor, and build rows of resource-producing buildings until you can re-build the island faster than it falls. Then, speed never matters again.

This could be avoided in two ways : either remove the Speed mechanic from the game altogether, and increase building/abilities diversity, or make it have some crucial importance during gameplay. Maybe speed gives momentum which holds the island together ? Or it makes resource buildings function faster ?

2. Energy and metal are different names for the same element : a resource you accumulate every second with buildings, and that is used to build more buildings (I am aware that the reactor costs energy only, but its cost is negligeable). Maybe both resources should vary more.

I am aware of the time constraints though, and this is very well done for a 3-days (solo ?) game. Congratulations !!

ctran13 2018-08-16 16:56

Beautiful game. The atmosphere made it really relaxing to play. As people mentioned, the game is way too easy (especially once you figure out exploits), but it's hard enough to balance a game, let alone for such a short amount of time. Great job!

norrimo 2018-08-16 17:24

Really great design. :D At first I failed really often. Than I realized thad I only have to build as much metal factories as possible. After this it was really easy, but also creates a kind of flow. Build factories. Build metal cubes. Build factories. Build metal cubes.

Maybe it could happend something in the late game that challange the player a bit more. Like an event like rocks who crashed with your island and trough this 3 blocks instead of 1 blocks are falling down.

The Soundscape makes a lot too. And your artystyle is really cool but I knew this already because I've watched your posts while the LD. :D

anstabo 2018-08-16 18:20

Real gameplay hidden in this game. It's very oppressing when you play it and you know it's gonna fallen, i wish there was a way to tell if a tile is gonna fall (maybe i missed it ?), the buildings type are limited but that's a good thing for this game as it is self explanatory ! The mood of this game is particulary well done, great job for a jam !

dave-troyer 2018-08-16 18:31

Love the feel of your games atmosphere and it has a nice aesthetic that the music compliments perfectly.

It fits the theme well and is well made. I would've like to see more conflict and some resolution to my play session; like a way of really winning, but that's a very minor gripe from me.

While these types of games aren't really my thing, I found myself drawn in and playing for a bit, which is nice. Great job!

trevor-hayes 2018-08-16 18:52

Good job on this one :)

I didn't upgrade my reactor the first time through, didn't notice I could, and it felt too long. My island was so massive by the end that I was the real mainland, and I had no concerns for half of the way there. My second try I upgraded the reactor. Arriving sooner felt much better so I have to disagree with @thefunattic. As long as the objective is to reach a destination speed is a relevant choice. @thefunattic may have a point about making engine upgrades more crucial to the gameplay though. What about having the island slow down with the increased weight as it grows so you need to upgrade to keep moving along, or have it so that you need to upgrade it to unlock higher tier structures.

I would also like hotkeys to pick what I'm building.

mike-inprinciple 2018-08-17 01:45

The outermost blocks keep falling, so it's fairly easy to predict what to do. At that point the game becomes a grind. I rated it quite highly though, as it's quite complete, good looking and good sounding. Just not my cup of tea.

shockeye 2018-08-17 04:59

Very good looking game, interesting mechanic. Audio is good also, sets the mood well. It seems like you were really hoping for the theme "Floating Islands" to get picked this time!

abhis1kadian 2018-08-17 10:06

Art style is great but the game is a little bit slow like the tile generator takes a lot of time to recharge but a good game

injured 2018-08-17 13:21

I think this is the game with the most amount of polish: crisp UI, amazing graphics, spot-on music, intuitive gameplay that I've played in my two times doing LDJam. Absolutely amazing.

wetbox 2018-08-17 13:23

@buddaccio Thank you. Yes, you are right. Game balance, I think, the most problem of our game. We had an incredible story when we refresh Python version and lost all us code which was written to calculate balance. So we customize balance approximately for minutes before jam’s end.

@skyrex Thanks! We are very glad that you liked =)

@larkinia Thanks for your feedback. We hope that in the future we will finish the project and will add many ways to develop of the island.

@vaip Thanks.

@moffkalast Wow! This is the bigger island which was built so far! We are really happy to see your screenshot. As for the exploit, it really is, but of course we will fix it in the future. Thank you for your time!

@alex-kurasov Все замеченные вами недостатки действительно присутствуют в игре. Мы будет работать ними. Спасибо за оценку!

@rustycrow LOL! I knew that someone would do it sooner or later. Great job =) Thanks for rating!

vesuvium 2018-08-17 13:42

That's a nice game. Do you plan to expand the concept and make a proper game out of this?

iwa 2018-08-17 13:55

The game becomes too easy and repetitive once you understand how the blocks falls. Other than that it's beautiful and polished. You could make it an interesting full game if you go further. Great job.

rodrigo-denubila 2018-08-17 15:17

I loved the graphics and art style. The game is simple but very polished and well done. Congratulations

n-feofentov 2018-08-17 17:47

Great visuals and atmosphere! I noticed you've been told about all the exploits)

Idea is really cool, but I wish blocks destruction happens less random. I mean, if it has some strict rules I would like to have tools to break them (without exploits), like adding strength to blocks or spreading weight over land to make it more sustainable. Plus more random events like a piece of flying island falling in the center of mine and breaking my delicate balance.

Nonetheless, great job!

P.S. It seems the Mainland is 3 times smaller than my island)

annie-owl 2018-08-17 21:06

What a fun game! Really enjoyed the gameplay almost throughout the whole thing. At the very end it was just waiting while our island will reach its destination, but it's not a big deal.

My only complaint is that selecting a building was a little bit awkward. I kept missing the buildings I wanted to select. I think if you highlight the building that the player is about to select it would have been much easier.

Other than that, I have enjoyed pretty much everything. Good job.

detectivelosos 2018-08-17 22:29

Really well made game. It looks great visually and over-dramatic soundtrack works on your first try when your island crumbles away and you facing inevitable doom. But on your second try this game basically becomes a sandbox game of shaping your island to your desire. In the end it even became laggy of how much stuff I placed.

Once again, this game is very well made, and even considering that you almost immediately understand what exactly is reqired to complete it, it's still fun to build an island of your own design and to fully upgrade all the buildings.

minibobbo 2018-08-18 04:51

This was very nice. Like the others have said, it is fairly easy and exploitable, but it is a wonderful achievement for 72 hours! The graphics and mood were great, the sound was fine, and the UI was intuitive. When the game first started up I immediately used the center click to rotate my island, and it wasn't until I had already done it that I realized I had no reason to think that would work. But it did and it made me happy right from the start.

Great job!

seizethedia 2018-08-18 13:54

All aspects of this game's design work together to create a very eery mood and a feeling of hopelessness as you travel further. I also appreciate how it breaks your choices and forces you to make new strategies in order to survive. I feel like it was too long, maybe with other events occurring along the way (besides my island falling apart) might help to break this up.

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 14:18

Nicely done! Music worked well with the visuals. Which the visuals for this game are quite good :) I liked the game play. Quite a clever concept in my opinion. Overall, very well done!

wetbox 2018-08-19 10:31

@vesuvium The players advised us on several excellent ideas how to develop the project. And probably we will return to this game one day.

@iwa Thank you! Probably, we will do so.

@rodrigo-denubila Thank you for appreciating the stylistics of our game.

@n-feofentov Thank you for these suggestions! These are interesting options.

@annie-owl Thank you! Great idea. Now the game does not understand which building was chosen.

@detectivelosos Thank you for describing your experience in the game!

@minibobbo Thank you! We saw your post with a list of games. There was our game. We are grateful for your feedback.

@seizethedia Thank you! You're right. Need additional events in the game.

@norris-eldridge Thank you!

nonimad 2018-08-19 13:58

Wonderful game! Incredible how this looks like a complete game and not a jam one (except that there's not much content of course). The graphics are really nice, mood is perfect, sounds are all good and ambient music isn't too loud. Would love to play again with different setups, more mechanics, etc...

Congrats!

mochakingup 2018-08-19 14:03

made it on my 2nd try! yay! once you get the momentum going, there's basically no way you can lose. Love the building design! Oh and btw, your windows download link seems to be corrupted? I've tried downloading it 3 times but couldn't open the rar. Maybe just my pc/internet though.

wetbox 2018-08-19 15:35

@nonimad Thanks for the feedback! We are glad that you liked the game. In fact, there are a lot of things in it that could be improved. Perhaps we will do it sometime later.

@mochakingup Thank you! It is very strange. We tested the download and there were no problems with the archive.

chrissx2 2018-08-19 20:46

Loved it. One of my fav games on LD42. There are things that could've been different/improved, but well there were only 2-3 days to do it so what you did is still impressive :).

peachtreeoath 2018-08-22 03:20

Gorgeous game, your UI is amazing and all the little attentions to detail really stand out, like the little highlights at the bottom of every button. Great start to a game, certainly some more buildings/economy/supply chain would help break up the late game meta but of course you did an amazing job with what you have given the timeframe.

kromeboy 2018-08-26 20:19

A really good entry but it may need a different balance, and maybe be a little shorter. Also It need some sort of tutorial
