LD42 — Running out of space

Gameplay was cool, But i felt a little cheated. I cant take cover behind the wallks on level 3, but the Bots can(i cant shoot trough the walls but they can). I also was missing mouse controls, the bots had very smooth movement which made it hard fro me to shot them with WASD.

The audio and graphics was very good for 48 hours :clap: and the power ups was a nice addition(flamethrower :frog: :clap:). the theme was also nicely implemented although the hitboxes could be a little weird and lead to death when turning around overall a cool little game @geeitsomelaldy

The synergy with the theme and turn best mechanics really work well together :clap: The controls was a little weird at first but once i go the hang of it was very smooth. Fantastic game @skreed @louis-denizet @redruth the audio combined with the graphics and game play meshed perfectly together but i stumbled upon a bug(?) mini map would not update some times and it created some hives without me knowing :frog: and when i got there i got stuck on some rogue colliders. Other then that i felt that the theme could have been emphasized more in structures/connections i never really felt like i as running out of space :frog:. But overall i had a great time playing your game and beating the boss :japanese_goblin:.

Wow this game was very interesting, i started out panicked but figured out you can get a free turn because how the RNG block fall logic was set up. I want to say this game is very atmospheric and i love the idea you have here @wetbox like having a ship a destination and managing the ship to that destination. i really felt the Theme (which fitted very vell with your game :clap:) almost held you back.

The visuals and audio is also impressiv for a 72 hour game, the ending sound track was very nice

The game play is kind bugged, colliders are messed up and i kept dying for seemingly no reason. But when the game worked it was quite enjoyable with the beautiful music(with space ship sounds turned off :frog:). I was hoping for a better presence of the theme, but attaching it to the story is at least something.

As a Gamer when presented with a game i will always try to break the game, and i broke yours in about 1 min :frog:. This was a was a very cool game, the controls are very smooth once you get used to them and VERY Cool by using the mouse to steer insted of the standard ways. I was a little confused as to what to do even tough the your description tells me but the Receive and Send pallets area dosent actually spawn pallets and the hit boxes are deep inside the tunnel areas, once i figured that out the game play was smooth.

The visual fit very vell with the game. 48 houer i am impressed

The game is Solid, Controls are smooth after about 30 tries i was able to speedrun all the way to the death room but there is where i met the first problem. The collierers are weird buddy, sometimes i just die i assume its because some part of me hit a spikes or red field but its hard to, how do i say this "FEEL" how big i am, you know what i am saying ? Most of the LD games i have player never seame to use the Theme well, But this game has a very cool take on running out of space. The game is very well made but the balance can seams a little off( water grenades :frog: :gun:) this type of game Screams for mouse controls and stack able/ storeable water. I was trying really hard to aim my extinguisher at times to grab another extinguisher engulfed in flames but the controls just got in my way just needed that extra bit of aim. The addition of music/sound and art is a real big + But the real winner for me, in your game is the use of the THEME very cool way of implementing to the game play Well done @swess

Top score i got was 2327 i think was a little hard to see with your font. my Strat was hold a position with a lot of extinguishers and tornado spray :frog:, but bad RNG can lead to low spawns so most of the time i ended opp RUNNING OUT OF SPACE :japanese_goblin: :frog: :gun: OMG.png

@nick-rafalski @korso this being my first jam its nice to hear that my choice of focusing on gameplay payed off. I am really frustrated that i didn't push my self harder to give you guys the UI and Audio that the players of my game dessverre i promise i will do better next time i Jam.

@wetbox I original wanted this to be kind of a endless game kind of thing, the higher you got the more points but due to time constraints i was unable to make it and was forced to put inn a last minute Exit(so bad art HA). So when you say its very repayable it warms my soul :ghost: , thank you so much for playing my game 2x :clap:

This Jam i have learned from feedback and playing other games that even the simplest of sound and UI go a very long way. Spending time on features that you cant 100% implement is a waste of time. Dont mess with code/ moving things right before deadline. Prepare before the jam so you dont waste valuable time installing or reading tutorials :frog: :gun:. hopefully one day will be able to share a full game with the people that played my first game. When testing lose condition i started to spam the boxes but did not lose, i later figured out that you need to wait and let the people close in on you in order for you to lose, so you instructions was a little unclear. @nomus the controls are weird just use left click to move around, though so as well. The game is interesting, the visuals are really cool, smooth nice to look at, it is to bad like you say its unbalanced. Also the movement part seems pointless(also gets bugged when you get to the screens cant move once you click in). As for the theme, i think it fits nicely. I do appreciate the active selling and buying portion of the game, it gives me something to do while the other stuff is working. Very nice sound design, its relaxing which is how tower def games should be. I wish the theme was more actively used insted of just a substitution for gold but this years theme was very bad(IMO) so i get the easy way out. The visuals of these game is very strong but the UI could use some more work, it needs to be more intuitiv(make the whole image a button) its confusing to have the label on the side be the way you purchase your towers. There is also a element of balance that i found lacking, in a tower defense i need a reason to use the other towers, atlest give the player the option to spawn the next wave so i can make it harder/quicker. All in all you got a good foundation of a tower defense game :clap: DERP.PNG

The visuals are truly mind blowing, 48 hours you must be a pixel artist trough the bone :clap: . The game is solid if you play by the rules , but the boss can be manipulated into a very easy attack loop, in other words you can :cheese: the boss. There is no spoiler filter so if you haven't played dont read next sentence :frog:. If you run away from the boss he chases you and dose a 360 attack from a long range. There are many ways to deal with this and you only have 48 Hours so i won legit way :frog:. 1 More thing is the spam button to attack,dont think anyone want to do that especially in a boss fight where you will die alot :frog: :gun:. The game was a pretty solid plattformer, i was speedrunning the game at the end by comboing all the moves. i was hoping for a challenge utilizing all of the abilities but 48 hours i get it. The intro art was very cool, the rest of the game was missing proper animation. All in all a solid LD44 game.

@vinegarlove Did you have all the UI and no crash on death ? That's really good to hear, i re uploaded after fiddling with some settings. I had never built for Linux and Mac before so didn't know quite what i was doing :frog:

@owlycode Man it really means a lot to me when people say they like my pixel art :cry:, I definitely need to find a way to make music, Audio has always been my weakest point.

@commanderstitch DUDE I also felt that when i was playtesting, the last minutts i was trying to figure out a way to make the player NOT die if he kills the last enemy with his last HP.

This years Theme was very :frog: :gun: i feel my game meets the theme goals but i understand arguments against it to. you all make wonderful points that i will take to heart next time i make a LD submission :frog: :clap: .

The attention to details dose not go unnoticed, but then again i am a little pixel artist my self so :frog: I am not sure if there is supposed to be audio in this but i didn't hear any sound. My only problem was the ability to reset. It needs to be quick if you are going to die alot quickly. I would maybe even dedicate a button to it. I cant rate the game since i didn't participate in this LD but i can at least leave a a comment on your game my friend :frog: .

I can definitely see a lot of potential in a game where the player builds them self up from fishing / gathering, expanding your civ and gear as you go along. I hope you keep this idea in the back of your mind and expand on it some day.

As for the game in its current state, you already know what the problem is based on the desc so no point in repeating it, but i didn't get any bugs in my play through(Not anything i noticed at least).

The visuals where fitting (top down pixel art), if you do continue with this idea keep the art style.

As for your take on the Theme, it was a pretty cool twist(build a civilization from nothing). I wish you had more time to create the full picture.

You have a solid idea for a game here, and with art style that really compliments that idea. But the idea is to big for a LD. I think you learned a lot of valuable lessons in this LD and i hope to see you use them in the next LD.
