Definitely my favourite for now.
Very good art and nice concept with a clever "map", took a while to understand what I was doing.
In my opinion, though, the reflections are excessively aggressive and text is not very readable, waves are too sparse and too fast... definitely this game is not suitable for epilectic people (I also got a little bit of motion sickness by playing this lol)!
I hope that my feedback will prove useful, good luck!
P.S. let me know If you're ever going to share the source code 'cause it would be interesting to see some tricks ;)

@siebenmik thank you so much!! i am working on usability. for source code, you can go to the lexaloffle post and under the game there's a little 'Code' link, or you can download the full cart as PNG, the magic of pico-8!

The feeling of speed and reflection is so well made. Nice touch with the map.

Very pretty game! I'm really a fan of the ocean and and the whole mood. It was hard to read the text but overall I liked the game a lot!
The waves look really great! The map is really clever, too. Great work!
As much as I like following the stars, though, I feel that the locations are a bit too far from each other. I end up spending a lot of time holding buttons, missing the sailors due to inertia, and then spending more time tracking them down. I don't really know if that's good for the mood or not.

AMAZING graphics and sound. Just adorable!
WOW haha! I couldn't believe you did this! That's amazing! The feel and stars, the boat and the cat. The depth of the simplicity is so cool. I enjoyed just going around in the boat. That's neat when something like this is here. Well done.

What a stunning game to play and look at! I enjoyed this game very much, and am impressed with your work.

I love the art and animations, actually makes me feel immersed somehow. Very well done
What a realistic feel.
I didn't like it. The graphics looked like a bunch of moving dots. I was just moving the boat around not sure what was happening.

I saw a post you made during development showing off the art style and I am glad I found your game. Really exceptional job on the art and animations. Gameplay wise, I struggled a bit to figure out how it worked. Great submission overall! Thanks for sharing!

Everyone's already said this, but this game really is pretty, and the map as the stars is genius and thematic. Quite quirky as well, took me a bit to realize quite a few of those lost sailors were charging me to take my life away :).
If you're up to it, I'd love to read a dev blog about how you put this together :)
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this game. The water effects were really cool and I love the way the colorful lights were reflected. I like how you integrated the stars in the background, although it took a while to figure out that it was a map. That said, I do like how the game doesn't tell you a lot and you have to figure it out as you go. The game did get a bit repetitive in the middle, although it was pretty exciting towards the end and I just barely made it to the goal with 100 currency. Overall, I had a pretty chill and relaxed time with this game. Great work!
I like the water effect, this have a nice sensation ! The concept to search with a sky map is very good ! Graphics and background is so cute, but maybe this can be little repetitive in a long run.

what a peaceful feel with so little to no pixels. You juiced out all the Pico-8 magic, in a fantastic way.
It looks and feel amazing, and it's a really impressive compo entry.
One of the best games I tried so far.
Good work!

Just beautiful and I almost lost myself in it's soothing atmosphere. It's if nyan-cat had enough of it's own tune and became a peaceful sailor.

The mood is great, great use of audio and visuals to create a really nice crunchy retro feel.
I did find it hard to spot the other sailors at times! And I think a bit of extra feedback on the sailing would be nice, maybe a bit more speed? Because of the retro feel I sometimes wasn't sure if I was moving forward, but qould quickly realise I was.
Great entry, well done :)

Incredible visuals. The audio is a bit glitchy for me. Great game!
It's been said before, the visual appeal of this game is fantastic. This game has a relaxing feel to it.
Took me a moment to get a hold of the game mechanics. Using the sky as a world map is pretty clever, though I found it a bit difficult to notice the blue pixel that represented me at first.
As I started to figure it out, I ran into a glitch where every sailor I touched seemed to transport me on contact without hitting an interact key. I think it was always triggering the currency -> life interaction with sailors on contact.
All that notwithstanding, this is one of the most appealing games I've played so far in this Compo.
Excellent game!
Didn't figured out what I'm supposed to do, but like the overall mood of it. The waves effect is really great.

Very cool style! Couldn't really understand what I was trying to do, but loved the visual style!
Very atmospheric, I really liked the effects of the waves. Well done!
Wow great work! Love the fluidity of the gameplay and the mood it sets. It's a lot of immersion and cleverness to be achieved in Pico-8 limitations in 48 hours so well done!
P.S. It took me a long time to find anyone initially, because I was only going left and right. Maybe start with someone always on screen as the first soul to find to get people going :).
This game sets such a mood! so chill.
Really liked this! the graphics and sounds create the perfect mood, it really seems to be lost in the sea. well done!
Love how you did the reflections, real cool!
Very pretty artwork! Took me a while to figure out you could keep moving up and not just left and right. Keep up the great work!
Very good. I was confused at first, but eventually got the hang of it.
2019-04-29 21:02
Why is the sound ear rape? Collected one bill and didn't find any other. :disappointed:
Very atmospheric although there isn't a lot of content. I am impressed how you did it with pixels, well done. Sometimes the flickering lights were a bit distracting.
Impressive visuals! I will definetly take a look at the source code, this made me realize I have still a lot to learn about pico-8 👏

Graphics is cool, but it's hard to see text and traders in the water. The map is nice, I wouldn't find anything if it wasn't there.
The water effect is so good, and I love the little cat! It's amazing what some of you peeps manage to do with PICO 8, this is really well done, thanks for letting us play it!
the look of this game really fits the gameplay. it's relaxing, and a really smart idea. good work!

Truly brilliant for a compo, I found it difficult to understand at first, but then it gets easier.
Love the cat! And the "shader" effect is also awesome
The graphics are so good - the water, using the stars as a map, all really impressive. This is a really awesome idea and I'm a huge fan. Might be interesting throwing in some other gameplay mechanics - other things to find and interact with, for example.
Like a magic eye poster, some people can see it and some people can't... I can see magic eye posters but haven't been able to figure this game out. Very cool ocean effect tho!
The game looks just amazing. The water and the way moon reflects off it looks cool, especially considering how pixelated it is.
The graphics are the best.
nice graphic though I didn'n really understand it..

I was stuck looking at the gif for a few seconds. It Certainly looks unique. The game did feel a litle empty with time, but thats an easy fix. Great work!

The graphics are quite outstanding, but I couldn't figure out what to really do (the map was really clever though). It's okay, I still had some fun just navigating around !
I couldn't really understand what to do and the audio was a bit scratchy/unpleasant. I liked the reflections on the water though

So clever concept of a map! I must say at first i was just derping around, but afer i focused more on stars i finally got the idea behind it! Very clever! Only thing that is irrritating are sound effects. I know they are supposed to be glitchy/oldschool but they sound like scraping blackboard with nails. Good job anyway!

Graphics and Sound are really fitting and i also liked the implementation of the map, but the game lacked readability especially for the text. I never knew, what i did, when i interacted with something

Great art
It's amazing what you can do with PICO-8. Working within narrow limitations has its advantages. All in all this is a beautiful game, one that hearkens back to the Atari 2600 and beyond.

2019-04-30 15:12
This was a fun play! The art style was cool! Only change would be to the water effect/reflection effect as some time it made it hard to see the sailors. Great game none the less!
The graphic is brilliant. Absolutly loving it. As well the sound is on point for a pico-game. The map in the background was a well done idea too. Loved it!

Graphics are great, especially with doing reflection on a PICO-8 game!
Love the artwork, the water effects and reflections are amazing. I found the text really hard to read at points, especially seeing a negative value of life currency when talking with a sailor.

Wow. That's a pretty game!

Graphics and presentation was absolutely mind blowing, the reflections in the water, the star map, I mean - the works. Gameplay-wise I think it has a way to go though, and yes the font was a bit hard to make split-second decisions with. Great entry!
The reflection effect was really cool, text was sometimes hard to read though. Fun game :)

2019-04-30 21:17
Really awesome work, I'll definitely be checking out the source code! Totally agree with others that the text is hard to read.
Nicest thing ever.
Movement feelt right, but I didn't know what to do.
I don't think it is necessary to show life with 4 decimals.
The art and mood were really nice, but it was hard to find what my goal was supposed to be. I wanted to enjoy it, but it ended up being too confusing.
Kind of cool! As mentioned it was a bit confusing, perhaps even buggy, especially with the prices changing as you move around and sailors sometimes wrapping around rather than being in a single place.

Using the stars as a map was absolutely genius. I had trouble understanding what it was that I needed to do for a while, but it clicked afterwards. Some of the text was difficult to read in the water though!
Loved the aesthetics as well, these PICO-8 games never seem to get old!

Nice game, would be interesting to see how you did the reflections. Good job!
Great game! I'm discovering PICO-8 with these entries and I must say all of the games I've seen made with it look good. The star map idea in particular was really cool.
There seems to be an issue though : merchants disappear when leaving the area of a star, so when a merchant spawns right at the edge, they disappear in the middle of the screen rather than offscreen.
Absolutely wonderful, great job :)

Great game. The idea of navigation is very fresh and minimalistic art style is very beautiful. Some more intro about the navigation would be nice as I am not sure have i really gut it, or were i just lucky :)
beautiful water effects. Its so mesmerising with the reflection. However, there was no clear direction or objective so it felt sort of wasted in a way... Add those, or integrate your amazing water effects into another title and you're onto a winner :)

This is really well made, but unfortunately the game is not for me. It's not really the type of game I'd enjoy, but looking at it objectively, if that's even possible, I really liked it.
whats your twitter account if we wanted to follow and see what you do in the future? :)

Very interesting one. Visuals are amazing (the wave effect especially), and the map system is clever. The only thing I say it's not that good: Text is hard to read in my opinion.

I like the map concept
Wow really love the art style/waves/reflections on water. Would have been nice to hear some music to set the mood, let me knowif your ever in need of such a thing! Cheers
Very interesting water - reflections and waves :D Also the star map is an innovative idea!

I really think that the art was the star of this game. It was very good and the sounds made it better too. Cool entry!
absolutely love that sea
Cool Game. It's impressive what a pico 8 game can look like. Sometimes it's a bit hard to identify everything correctly and understand what is what.
But in generall a cool game, really impressive.

The art is fantastic. I love the wavey effects and the reflections. Fantastic work for a compo! It took me a while to figure out that the stars are the map, and that I can sail "up" and "down".
Didn't understand the gameplay, though. Do I want to survive as long as possible, or gain as much money as possible, or what?

Amazing graphics! It took me a while to understand that the sky was the map, with the blue small dot being the player. It's really unique.

Spent some time figuring out what I need to do exactly. The text sometimes looks just unreadable. But overall this is a brilliant implementation of a simple idea. Love it.
Here is my first attempt:
https://youtu.be/zyi4y-mPGic
Awesome graphics, never tought that the pico 8 could achive such... the reflections of the sheep and the moon over the water is awesome, but the reflecitons of the HUD is waky ... the sfx is a bit glitchy and the sky sometimes warps, would be nice if i could navigate backwards to catch the guys that just passed by ...
Amazing graphics! Really cool reflections.
I did not actually get what you were supposed to do and lost interest pretty quicky, but I did enjoy my time with it.
