LD44 — Your life is currency

Stranger Coins by grena 2019-04-30T21:11:35Z

That was crazy, nice work! I couldn't get past the first stage as a coin though :(

Nexcidium by keanutah 2019-04-29T12:42:09Z

@gear-steak Thanks for playing! I'll update the description to make it a little more obvious that it's a shooting game. But yeah as you said it's not 100% necessary to dodge, especially once you upgrade your fire rate. As your dosage decreases, you get visually smaller, but the collision boxes are actually the same.

I think some difficulty tuning will be done once the rating period is over :)

Nexcidium by keanutah 2019-04-29T22:14:22Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

It's so funny that people aren't realizing you can shoot! I knew I should have added a 'controls' indicator to the game.

I've updated the itch.io page to make the controls more obvious ;)

Nexcidium by keanutah 2019-05-01T13:22:33Z

Great feedback everyone! I'm especially pleased you are all enjoying the story, it was my first time trying to wrap a game in any sort of narrative.

100% agreed that Rapid Fire is OP! I wasn't really able to balance the game in the time we had, and opted to make it fairly easy so that most players could finish it. But yeah, Rapid Fire is definitely the first power up you should acquire.

I might explore this game more post-jam! I have a few ideas on how to expand it.

Nexcidium by keanutah 2019-05-02T12:56:27Z

Good criticism, thanks all! 100% agree with all of it. You definitely need to be encouraged to shoot more, and the levels could be balanced better.

I'm currently working on addressing most of these critiques in the post jam version!

DISREGARD LIFE, ACQUIRE CURRENCY by notb 2019-04-30T21:17:49Z

Really awesome work, I'll definitely be checking out the source code! Totally agree with others that the text is hard to read.

Sour Business! by GabrielH 2019-04-29T23:13:57Z

I like the art!

LifeShot by kuviman 2019-04-30T01:45:13Z

Really had fun with this, nice work!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Dimmer by Chaseplays 2020-04-21T19:33:08Z

Fun! I think the goal was a tiny bit confusing, I was expecting the battery pickups to increase the screen battery percentage. Once I figured out you just need to collect the battery and make it to the end, it felt pretty good! Controls didn't feel as precise as they could, but it was very playable. Nice work! Loved the screen and sound dimming together - a great concept!

Autoexec by reheated 2020-04-23T01:25:47Z

Great job, love a good shmup, and this delivered. I think more wave patterns would obviously be an improvement, but this was a fun play. Fun to think about how the skills best interact.

Keep The Beat Alive! by Willops 2020-04-21T01:21:47Z

Had a great time with this, once I realized I had to use the mouse to aim. Really nice concept! Sorta like a twin-stick shooter version of Crypt of the Necrodancer. Great music!

Locked'goshi by StabAlarash 2020-04-23T23:53:09Z

Very polished, nice work!

PlayBack by Joe Cowman 2020-04-23T00:21:48Z

Great concept, nice job!

Flamerunner by groverburger 2020-04-22T00:28:29Z

Really nice! The feel of the running was great. I did get kinda stuck in one area, and had to restart. Ascending the rock structures to get the high up torch was really fun though! Nice work

Super Rally by Fengol 2020-04-21T20:23:15Z

I had a hard time getting the shot timing right. But it was a neat concept, love the idea of keeping the rally alive. Maybe pong style controls would work well here?

Dr. Hackerman by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2020-04-23T23:05:38Z

I liked this. Nice graphics, and the typing game itself is basic but fun. Well done!

Oh! That's a Hare!! by metalfist213 2020-04-23T22:56:50Z

Hard to see the bear traps, and a pretty hard game overall, though I'm playing on a trackpad. I did find it enjoyable though! Graphics were cute and pretty nice. Good on you for learning an engine while building this, you did a great job!

Morose by 100th_Coin 2020-04-21T17:09:16Z

Very nice! Definite Undertale vibe. Combat could use more feedback, it was hard to tell what was happening damage-wise. I wasn't smart enough to figure out how to make the green flower haha

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-24T23:22:20Z

Really great! Can't say much more than what's been said already. Awesome puzzles!

MR YELLOW by p-r 2020-04-27T20:57:32Z

Oddly compelling honestly. It was hard to account for the enemies though, since you don't really know how mr yellow is going to move when you teleport. Since, I enjoyed this! Nice work.

Unbroken Shell by Garett Cooper 2020-04-22T01:52:51Z

Pretty challenging. Loved the look of the game, and the concept was nice. Felt a little too hard, but I can totally see that you could get better at it over time.

Boundary by William Derksen 2020-04-22T00:44:34Z

Really innovative, haven't seen something like this executed this well before! Could see this evolved with more mechanics over time. Nice work!

Keep the Beet Alive by Tad 2020-04-23T22:49:40Z

Really cool! I feel like the rhythm game aspect of it could have been tuned better, more feedback for onbeat/off-beat would be nice. Great graphics, fun music, excellent work!

ReOrb by aayush 2020-05-09T03:20:23Z

Really cool, lots of potential! You can just cover the walls in converters and be completely safe though it seems? If you balanced this, and added more stuff over time (updates, enemies, etc), this would be a fantastic game!

MR BUZZ'S FANCY-ASS PICNIC by MrLeePerry 2020-04-21T23:18:53Z

Nice job! Loved the sound effects, sounded like you had a good time. Cute graphics too!

Soul Seed by unept 2020-04-22T15:23:18Z

Really great, probably my favorite LD46 game so far! Perfect difficultly for a jam game. Great mood, great graphics, simple and to the point. Loved it!

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-21T13:47:42Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@micahlg Thanks! I think the game ended up looking pretty neat :)

@roolow Glad you liked the jetpack. Total agree that it would be good to have another mechanic pushing you to move more. Definitely going to make some post jam changes!

@valdee Thanks! Warning alarm might be a bit too intense haha

@spacewizardj Haha that's funny you burned all the trees down, the game isn't super intuitive without reading the "How to play" write up I made. Love does have some 3d capabilities, but I actually built a really simple 2d voxel engine. I had already built one of these in love so I had some basic base rendering code to build off of thankfully :)

@shaolin-dave Graphics were primarily driven by limitations of the basic voxel engine the game is built on. Each point on the map can only have one height, so that limits the types of shapes you can render. I was happy to have the limitation though, and I think leaning into that a bit helped contribute to the art style. Totally agree on the lack of direction (without the instructions), that's obviously something I should improve post jam!

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-21T22:37:45Z

Thanks for all the great comments! Really happy people like the overall look.

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-21T23:41:42Z

@adam-konig Thanks for the play! Good call on the horizontal velocity. I basically always hold down "w" when playing the game, which will increase your velocity... but it would have been neat to not to lose velocity when you release keys. I'll have to experiment with that!

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-24T17:44:13Z

Thanks for the nice comments @stolen-biscuit @tso @jason-woerner @mza @kaeveris! Thankfully I had some prior basic love2d voxel engine code to start with, but I heavily improved it for this game. Glad you all like the graphics and sound! It was important to me to have a cohesive feel to the game, even if everything is pretty basic

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-26T15:38:21Z

Thanks @mantou and @chaseplays! Totally agree with the difficult tuning, I've already started to work on some updates to tune the difficult and gameplay :)

Servant Snake by C1FR1 2020-04-21T01:51:31Z

Looks cool, but the Mac version wouldn't open up for me at all. No error or anything :/

Keep Them Alive by kaeveris 2020-04-21T20:46:29Z

Pretty fun! Definitely something I'd like to see expanded. It did seem a little glitchy, but it was playable for sure. Not super related to the theme, but that's okay! Wasn't a fan of the buzzer sound.

Sunset Boule-ward by Decappoolla 2020-04-23T00:32:34Z

Wow, nice work! Beautiful graphics, great mood. Very touching.

Pollinate by Adam Konig 2020-04-21T23:11:54Z

Very pretty! Music is great too. Gameplay was neat, very chill. I would personally remove the scoring element and lean into the creative side of the game. Or alternatively add more mechanics to make it more of a game experience. Either way though, a nice polished game!

IGKNIGHT: Keeper of Flame by sacredbacon 2020-04-21T00:55:38Z

Really liked this! Nice job. Cool music!

Happy Life by scalliondelight 2020-04-23T23:46:29Z

Cool concept, very frantic. Took a while before figured out all the interactions, a few were a little un-intuitive to me. So unique though, well done!

Grow! by alex457 2020-04-21T20:53:03Z

I couldn't manage to find enough energy to get the plant to grow. Searching for energy felt a little random? Any tips?

I liked the concept for sure, I can definitely see a nice game here.

Protector by khopa 2020-04-21T23:37:11Z

Really cool that you made a legit NES game! Wish I had a flashcart to play this on real hardware. I think there are some obvious gameplay improvements you could add, but making this all for a jam is really really awesome

Skeleton Crew by BoltzmannsBud 2020-04-21T01:01:05Z

Sound design was awesome! Short and to the point, a good time

It Alive by Mathurin 2020-04-23T02:14:26Z

Nice work, love seeing fellow love2d programmers! I thought this was a pretty good game. Would have liked to see the sign throwing mechanic used more, like someone else mentioned I didn't really need to use it for a while. Maybe you could throw the sign and it would stick into stuff and become a platform? Something like that might be neat. Still, a fun little platformer, nice work!

The Offer by TheWinrawr 2020-04-21T23:04:25Z

Art style is very nice!

BUBBLE BOY by NEKORUMA 2020-04-21T02:09:14Z

Really neat! Matches the theme spot on, beautiful graphics. Simple gameplay, but charming enough to be fun for a while. I think the music loop could be longer, gets a tiny bit repetitive I think

City Defender by O Marchi 2020-04-23T23:01:03Z

Quite hard, but I actually found it kinda enjoyable to rhythmically smash the arrow and spacebar. You could kinda get into a groove with some of the attack patterns! Nice simple graphics too. Good work!
