Dig the look, really eerie too. Good game overall!

roolow 2020-04-21 01:26

Really cool and unique look. And the jetpack controlled nicely. It was fun to try to be efficient with, traveling to the opposite ends. I think it needed one positive reason to leave the fire (maybe to collect ammo for you stick thing)? Either way nice job.

Solid game! Very very simple, but i mean that's the fun part of a game jam after all. I love the graphical style! The background wind is a nice touch, but the warning alarm sound is a bit jarring.

spacewizardj 2020-04-21 02:05

I like the look as well, the monsters look like glitches or corruption so good job there!. I ran around lighting all the trees on fire when I realized that I can only have one. So I defended that fire and I still lost. I think because the corruption spawned behind me? I'm not super familiar with Love2D but does it have a 3d library? Doing a 3d game in a 2d framework is a lot of work for a jam, so good on you! Thanks for letting me play your game!

shaolin-dave 2020-04-21 05:23

I'm not sure if the graphics were because of limitations or a styilistic choice, but I like it. At first it was confusing, but then the abstractness of the ice monsters actually made them kind of scary. My only criticism is that the game is very hard to figure out without reading instructions outside the game, but that's par for the course.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@micahlg Thanks! I think the game ended up looking pretty neat :)

@roolow Glad you liked the jetpack. Total agree that it would be good to have another mechanic pushing you to move more. Definitely going to make some post jam changes!

@valdee Thanks! Warning alarm might be a bit too intense haha

@spacewizardj Haha that's funny you burned all the trees down, the game isn't super intuitive without reading the "How to play" write up I made. Love does have some 3d capabilities, but I actually built a really simple 2d voxel engine. I had already built one of these in love so I had some basic base rendering code to build off of thankfully :)

@shaolin-dave Graphics were primarily driven by limitations of the basic voxel engine the game is built on. Each point on the map can only have one height, so that limits the types of shapes you can render. I was happy to have the limitation though, and I think leaning into that a bit helped contribute to the art style. Totally agree on the lack of direction (without the instructions), that's obviously something I should improve post jam!

Awesome 3D. I love it! The controls feel so nice and the gameplay loop is also tight. The aesthetics reminded me a bit of yeti hunter by vlambeer.

matt-burton 2020-04-21 21:03

I LOVE the graphics and effects. The mood of the game gave me a chilling feeling of solitude. Nice work!

stadoblech 2020-04-21 21:09

for some reason i got this very familiar ultima underworld or tes arena feeling... Thank you sir for this!

itskdog 2020-04-21 21:28

Good job with the game. I had fun just jump around on the snowy mountains.

keanutah 2020-04-21 22:37

Thanks for all the great comments! Really happy people like the overall look.

adam-konig 2020-04-21 23:30

Nice work! Game is very responsive and controls are great. The rules of the game were a little unclear and I was struggling to see why I was losing until I re-read the instructions. Also I wish that I maintained my horizontal velocity while jet packing, otherwise jet packing feels slow. Jet packing should never feel slow it should feel amazing!

keanutah 2020-04-21 23:41

@adam-konig Thanks for the play! Good call on the horizontal velocity. I basically always hold down "w" when playing the game, which will increase your velocity... but it would have been neat to not to lose velocity when you release keys. I'll have to experiment with that!

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-22 02:03

The graphics in this are superb, way to create an awesome atmosphere. I love the blend of retro and snow. Gameplay was pretty fun albeit a bit repetitive (but with 48 hours not much you can do there), i loved the jetpack idea. And again, the game just looks spectacular. Well done!

tso 2020-04-22 02:05

Thumbs up for voxels! Moving campfires was counter intuitive but makes sense now.

jason-woerner 2020-04-22 22:37

Great job! I have no idea how difficult it is to create a 3D game in a 2D engine, but if you did engine work here as well, wow! The gameplay was fun, and the simplistic graphics were well-stylized to fit the theme. The music and sfx all fit together nicely and created a great mood. Everything was really cohesive, and there was enough variation to keep things interesting for longer than the average game jam game :D

mza 2020-04-24 16:39

Bonus points for making a fun 3D game in a 2D engine - that to in 48hrs!

kaeveris 2020-04-24 17:36

I like the art a lot and atmosphere of solitude it creates!

keanutah 2020-04-24 17:44

Thanks for the nice comments @stolen-biscuit @tso @jason-woerner @mza @kaeveris! Thankfully I had some prior basic love2d voxel engine code to start with, but I heavily improved it for this game. Glad you all like the graphics and sound! It was important to me to have a cohesive feel to the game, even if everything is pretty basic

mantou 2020-04-25 13:34

A little fun game! Good work

chaseplays 2020-04-26 07:58

This was a really fun arcade-style game that I enjoyed a lot! I would have liked it if the difficulty ramped up a bit faster (at some point it sort of felt like I was waiting for stuff to happen), but it was still a really fun and polished! Great job!

keanutah 2020-04-26 15:38

Thanks @mantou and @chaseplays! Totally agree with the difficult tuning, I've already started to work on some updates to tune the difficult and gameplay :)

saviorium 2020-04-26 20:56

Really impressive work for love2d and 48h! And it looks and plays really nice.
