LD38 — A Small World

Space Travel 15 by jk5000 2017-05-08T07:52:35Z

I had a hard time downloading it. Drop box is fairly reliable but I kept getting network error while downloading other game was fine. Re-host?

Cloud Garden by dwemthy 2017-05-20T08:30:11Z

I appreciate that you made something and it feels like you just went with it and let it grow. I think that if you continue you should focus on the core how the player interacts with the world and the controls.

Space Aliens Are Coming by RealityCheck 2017-05-09T08:19:35Z

I actually laughed out loud when I saw the repopulation of my game. Congrats on finishing the game, it's hard some times but you stuck with it. I felt that I couldn't keep up with the ships sometimes but I don't mind loss being inevitable, as long as the player can make the decisions to figure out what to sacrifice. I wonder if you could expand the game so you couldn't actually see the whole play field like in Defender and just have a map. There's lots of possibilities there. Congrats and crossing the finish line!

Pocket World by BtheDestroyer 2017-05-20T08:10:33Z

I liked the premise and core design a lot. I ended up getting stuck because I traded all my wood for rocks and couldn't figure out how to get wood back. (Do Trees Grow Back?) The aesthetic of "Game Boy" is done well. I did have to mute the music after a while. Music is very hard to do in a Jam. I really liked the writing!

Gate Breaker by GrassWhopper 2017-05-08T06:58:05Z

I understood what I had to do I couldn't figure out how to do it. I kept picking up "<>" but nothing happened and I just kept following the arrow. I like the base idea a lot and the art style and color palette is good. I like the enemy ship design. Might be worth some time to polish and improve. :)

Solar Wind by flusap 2017-05-09T08:01:47Z

Congratulations on your first game! Seriously, you've accomplished what others only dream of. Keep making games. Seriously. My first LD entry wasn't this good! I really liked the exploration and that each planet had it's own quirk. The reverse controls planet was neat. I didn't get the boomerang planet until last. The audio is excellent for a jam entry and helps set the mood. It makes me happy and encourages me to see someone take an idea, explore it to completion and make something to share.

My Name is Bunny by AlexClay 2017-05-20T08:50:10Z

I like the subject matter but I don't feel the core mechanic is deep enough to be engaging. The core gameplay loop is move, wait, move, wait. The graphics are great and I really like the dialogue. Bonus points for making something that conveys how you feel. I really liked the simulation of watching the planet go around the sun and the moon going around the planet and having the salary earned be based off the lunar cycle. Good job!

"Couldn't start because OpenAL32.dll is missing from your computer" :(

Caterpillar Chomp by Xephrys 2017-05-20T08:35:52Z

It looks really nice for a compo entry. I've read some comments about the game not being very deep but if that isn't what you intended, then this game is what it is. My primary concern is that I think there's a strange mismatch between the fact that the ants smoothly simulate while the player character moves like an old LCD handheld game. It makes it difficult to control and results in not being sure what my move is going to do exactly. After I became a butterfly, I pressed left and became a caterpillar again and the game seemed stuck.

R.U.D.I. by SpaceWizardJ 2017-04-29T23:01:38Z

Thanks for playing and the comments @loveapplegames! By midway through the game I cut the galactic map and the procedurally generated worlds. I intended to have a map of a sector of space that you have to take over to win but over-scoping in 48 hours is very easy to do right? So I stuck with this, I made two "planets" but yes, that's something I would do to finish the game beyond the Jam!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Hive Alive! by Remco 2020-05-12T07:25:50Z

I enjoyed the look. I like games that use retro stylings in interesting ways. In your description, you talk about the sound being too much for headphones. Why did you not replace the sound or just cut it? I enjoy strategy games. What is your favorite strategy game? What are the rules for that game? Can you compare them to the rules of your game in terms of complexity and player feedback? I didn't know I could move the camera and when I did figure it out, it was difficult right? Could your game have worked without camera control and just put the camera in a more readable place? Good job on the music, it really ties together the mood of the game while being loopable in the background without being annoying. Thanks for letting me play your game!

Edit: I read after the fact that your game engine utilizes ray tracing. What did it bring to your game?

Universal Friend Organization (UFO) by ThePelranthean 2020-04-25T05:11:19Z

I like the concept. I had a hard time in levels 3 and 4 because I couldn't tell which icons on the map were planets that had and planets that needed. The music is really good and contrasts against the urgent (and grim) nature of the game. What would you do to deepen the gameplay? Thanks for letting me play your game!

Motobot Defender by pkenney 2020-05-11T01:45:29Z

I love this entry! The mechanic is simple but challenging! I really like the control scheme, the bike feels good and it's just on the right side of difficult to control. If it was easier, it wouldn't be fun. I wonder what this game looks like in long form? If you took the premise and made it into a fuller game, what would it be? Good job on art choices to make it fit in a 48 hour jam! I got 17400 and I even used the DPI switch on my mouse mid game to get more accurate turns ><'

VillageQuake by Kontroman 2020-04-20T05:21:45Z

Ok, the music and sound are amazing. The game looks good and I understood what to do right away. However, it is hard for me! I think the visual language is a little tough, I am not sure if I can rebuild it right away or if I can build it after it is ash. Good work! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Feed Me, see more by triggthediscovery 2020-04-21T02:19:50Z

Ok. Great name. I like the concept and you a mad person for making a city with walking people to feed my plant in 48 hours. I like the humor but I always aggroed the city and they beat me up. I managed to create a chain of people to my lair but I couldn't feed them to my plant properly and they would turn grey and disappear. I was trying to figure out how to abduct people better but that seemed to be it. Thanks for letting me play your game!

LD Jam 46 Keep It Alive by brandann 2020-04-25T06:11:00Z

I tried 3 times and my knight died! Dare I say it's an escort quest but done in a sort of rogue like dungeon crawl? Interesting concept. I enjoyed trying though and I liked the music, it fit the mood of the game well. I did enjoy that you're the princess protecting her knight! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Helium by joekinglake 2020-04-25T05:22:18Z

I love this compo entry! I like puzzle platformers. I played it 4 times. On the 3rd time I figured out how the last room and the balloon worked. The art is well directed and I like the gameplay. This is the type of game that you could layer a lot of stuff onto. Where would you take it next? Thanks for letting me play your game!

SOS STARSHIP F1 by Tim Eriksen 2020-05-10T22:28:14Z

I played and stopped at the first stop and then I got lost! I love the abstract approach, committing to it works and it reminds me of old PC games. What was I supposed to do after docking to the first place?

Cowboy and Robot by techsec 2020-05-12T07:08:59Z

I like the concept of trying to save an adorable little buddy. Nothing is more motivating in a game. I couldn't quite figure out how to "win" although I went around several times. I'd like you to go back and play your game and ask yourself a few questions: -What is it I'm asking the player to figure out or master? -Is my level design a compliment to the mechanics? Does the level give the player a place to use the mechanics to plan and execute? -If the A.I. is hard to implement in a jam (trust me, it is!), what could an A.I. do that's challenging given the mechanics and won't call attention to itself in a negative way? Like what if the A.I. patrolled so the player had to observe, learn, plan and execute? -Go play some of your favorite Stealth games, how do they do it? Good job on completing your game! Thanks for letting me play!

MR BUZZ'S FANCY-ASS PICNIC by MrLeePerry 2020-04-25T04:55:27Z

The polish on the art and look is fantastic. Good work! I like the sound effects. The gameplay reminds me of Whack-A-Mole and I was able to get a rhythm down. What would you do to deepen the gameplay? The animation is good and I liked how intuitive the controls were. Thanks for letting me play your game.

Violent Running by Faulkin 2020-05-12T07:45:53Z

Good art for 48 hour jam! 3D art in a Jam is a very daunting task. I really like the decision to have the player robot waddle. That's definitely a lot of bang for buck! I thought I was good at shooters and your game destroyed me. I did have a hard time hitting the eye ball robots. In your game loop the player has to keep the planters alive and fight off the baddies. You made a decision that eye ball robots can knock you back. In a game, you want the player to feel empowered to overcome all obstacles right? So is this knock back more or less powerful than anything the player has? What if the player had that ability instead? I think the game would still be challenging. What direction would you take the gameplay? Good job on your entry! Thanks for letting me play!

CORRUPT TUNDRA by keanutah 2020-04-21T02:05:53Z

I like the look as well, the monsters look like glitches or corruption so good job there!. I ran around lighting all the trees on fire when I realized that I can only have one. So I defended that fire and I still lost. I think because the corruption spawned behind me? I'm not super familiar with Love2D but does it have a 3d library? Doing a 3d game in a 2d framework is a lot of work for a jam, so good on you! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Game of Life by GreenAndSubmarine 2020-05-12T07:14:57Z

Good job on completing your entry! I'm sure Conway would appreciate your entry. As a "Game", here's some questions you can ask: -What am I asking the player to do? Is it to make decisions on what to protect? That's a lot of data right? How could I make it easier to understand their decisions -Is it possible to change the pace so that a player could engage with it and understand what's happening? The game of life was one of the first graphical programming I ever did and I remember it fondly. I've never thought of turning it into a game. Thanks for letting me play!

Johnny The Stupid Electron by Collin Thompson 2020-04-20T05:15:00Z

I just played he HTML5 version. Love the name. I like that you focused on doing one mechanic. I was a little confused on what makes Johnny move certain directions. I also didn't understand while playing it which direction the neutron was going to go when I clicked. The audio matched the theme a lot. I could see this becoming a mobile game that thrives on the simple mechanic. I kinda want to flick the neutron.

Absolutely Authentic Streaming Experience™ by Whismirk 2020-04-21T01:34:12Z

I liked the concept, well done! I also enjoyed the art aesthetic, the background color cycle was pleasing. I think the concept is very cool but I'd like to play another iteration with more cards! After a while the RNG just gets ya! Strategy would be the next step. Good work on your submission! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Captain! Captain! by SuperGamersGames 2020-04-25T05:30:22Z

I love this concept. When I downloaded it I looked at the screenshot and realized what the gameplay was and got stressed out immediately. It's hard! I really like it. The music and ambiance is done really well. I got into it and as I predicted, the game stressed me out. The juggling of the battery as a resource is very clever. Good job on your entry! Thanks for letting me play your game!

An ocean's life by Shootboots 2020-04-20T03:58:40Z

Your game upload is incomplete. You should zip up the exe, dll and the data folder. @ me when you fix it so I can check it out!

An ocean's life by Shootboots 2020-04-20T06:31:02Z

@shootboots thanks, I downloaded it and it worked. Curious, was the title screen an experiment of water sim? Hehe, I like how it had nothing to do with the rest of the game. I had trouble cleaning up stuff. Some of it spawned off screen. The cleaning up of pollution did not always seem to work. I like the application of the theme. The music fits and really creates a sense of feeling in the game. The boat movement feels good, it makes me wish there was more map to sail around. My favorite thing was the music cutting out and the fog rolling in. That took me by surprise. Thanks for letting me play your game!

Destructive Reconstruction by MantarayTV Games 2020-04-25T05:55:15Z

I like the puzzle nature of the game. Blowing up stuff can be satisfying. What prevents me from just putting the plant down and doing the puzzles? Haha. I beat it and I only lost the plant once! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Backwards Undertakers by KirKami 2020-04-20T03:44:52Z

I like the concept. So to get the most out of your game you need a friend right? I like the music and the animation. I fell through the floor a few times and had to restart the game and I wish I could see more to find the correct soul. Good job on the look and the animations. I like the slingshot and swing animations. Animations are hard to do in a LD Jam. Thanks for letting me play your game!

Bomber Escort (or boomer escort) by thatOtherNerd 2020-05-12T07:35:58Z

CONGRATS on your first Jam! I remember mine like it was... well it was a long time ago! I hope you're proud of what you made!

Ok I may have run into issues but on Chrome: - I couldn't shoot all the time and when I had the sound on, I would hear the shooting sound but no bullets. You may want to look into Unity's collision system and do a few experiments for fun and education. It can seem daunting at first but if you set up different collision types and make projectiles that are physical, use raycast, etc, you'll learn a lot so it won't be so daunting. - I played until my score was 3000 and I never saw any enemies. I stopped playing at this point. Did you revision the build? Chrome problem?

I really like the relative controls. It means you'd have to plan your moves ahead of time. What did you think of the tone of your music? Do you think that maybe in lieu of music, some propellers and gun fire maybe could have helped the mood more? Sorry I had so much trouble with your game. I really would like to play Part II in the next jam. That would be awesome if it fit the theme!

KeepItAlive by LinWenHao 2020-04-20T03:39:26Z

The game requires an account to download. Could you post it anywhere else? @me when you do!

KeepItAlive by LinWenHao 2020-04-20T06:54:32Z

@linwenhao Ok I was able to download it from GameJolt. First things first. CONGRATULATIONS on the completion of your first Ludum Dare! I remember my first time. (Ludum Dare 17!) That was a long time ago, hahaha. Ok, my first comment, is you should let me play more than once! I failed my first time and wanted to try again! I like the art and the walk animation. You got quite a bit done for Ludum Dare! I see AI and a story and that is good! The setup and story along with the exploration is why I played a few times. I would recommend you research Unity's collision system. I often found that I was shooting myself or my bullets were disappearing for some other reason. You game is difficult but I like that! I kept trying to find a good path. I really like the main character talking to himself. Even in AAA games it seems to be standard that all main characters talk to themselves. I like this game and you should keep making this type of game and tell stories. Good job! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Robo Riot by RNGames 2020-04-20T05:49:22Z

It took me forever to figure out that you have to stand on "Next Wave" to go. I like the use of the theme. You're like enslaved to the core to keep it alive. The shooting and movement feel good. The "feel" of shooting with the slight camera shake is really good. The little details like the trail and the dash effect are good. To do all this and include a shop in such a short amount of time is bonkers. This sort of reminds me of a score attack game such as Geometry Wars. I did end up using the radar arrow as a lead to cheese the AI a bit :D. I'm always fascinated by AI in game jams. We have to make an opponent with little time and use simple methods to complete the illusion. Good work in this regard! I poked at your AI to see how it worked and I think that's a really good solution. Responsive to the player and seems intelligent in a Dalek "Exterminate" sort of way. I would like to see later iterations of this. Good work! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Keep the Party Alive by Jirushi 2020-04-20T06:07:27Z

I liked the setting and the concept. The music matched the setting. Maybe I like fires but the opening scene could make a cool wallpaper or poster. So the idea is to go left to grab wood right? I was waiting for a bait and switch where the game is actually a story to be told! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Nemysis by Crispy Chicken 2020-04-21T20:20:04Z

I had to stop after wave 20 because I wanted to play other LD games! Good work! I love the art aesthetic. Good use of color. I wish the souls "popped" more but with your limited palette I think that might be tough. Good job on making this feel like an old PC game. I felt transported, seriously. I was really stressed out about picking up all the souls but I always had more than enough. Later on my minions started killing things off screen and I think. In the end I was having fun and I really wanted a management panel to figure out what the balance of my minion army was! Thanks for letting me play your game!

Clueless Sheep by Scintillae_Creations 2020-05-12T07:52:32Z

I like the core mechanic! Excellent choice on doing enough art to get the point across without going down the rabbit hole, you only have 48 hours after all. I am disappointed that a cactus doesn't stop a truck which is what I died to the most. What does the full game look like? What could you use this prototype to drive towards? I'm curious. Also, did clicking the little spores or spheres do anything? The UI bars are up there but what do they mean? Thanks for letting me play your game!

Super Ultimate Wave Defender by zagony2613 2020-04-21T01:55:20Z

I beat it! I managed to set up a network that nothing could get through. I like the art choices and the color palette. I always like the laser effects. Doing a 3D game in a LD is really tough but you pulled it off! One thing that really put me off was the sound, every laser firing makes a sound and eventually Unity's audio system breaks down and it's reduced to crackling. I like playing a TD in 3d, I feel like TDs are fun and no one makes them anymore. Guess they're not in vogue, thanks for making one! Thanks for letting me play your game!

The Adventure of Mr. Bubbles by DreadedDruidStudios 2020-04-21T01:15:56Z

I downloaded your game. When I try to run your game I get a open file dialog windows and then nothing happens if I select the Mr Bubbles application. @me if you know whats wrong!

Nightmare Knights by Low Mana 2020-04-25T05:39:24Z

I think the voice adds a lot to this game. The number of times it repeats though begins to diminish its impact. I had difficulty because it always seemed my bears had their backs turned when enemies appeared. You got some cool enemies rigged and implemented in such a short time. I like the overall concept a lot! It's discouraging me from leaving a link here but click my name and just look at my entry haha. Thanks for letting me play your game!
