I love the Theme, as an plushie-addict, this is my Game ! :D

vano 2020-04-21 04:25

I really enjoyed this one! Despite it being a simple wave game, it was really cool having the voice over guide me and tell a little story. I also love that you kept in the mistake audio recordings, really made the game pretty humorous even if by accident. Overall, this was some great fun and very entertaining.

2020-04-21 04:40

Solid voice acting. Would have loved to see a score at the end to see how many waves I went through. Love the theme.

drachmor 2020-04-21 05:11

I had a pair of Teddy Bears when I was little, and I'm now positive they protected me from nightmares. This may be my favorite interpretation of the theme yet! Also mad respect for the voice acting.

A picture is sometimes worth a thousand words. Great theme!

xbcw 2020-04-21 05:24

Really fun game. I wonder if the best strat is to just build a bunch of the 2 cost bears.

billehbawb 2020-04-21 05:25

A very cute idea for a game! A bit frustrating at times because the enemies kept walking through the bears I was spawning so I could do basically nothing but watch myself lose. Adding something where the bears target the nearest enemy instead of just walking by would be very helpful. The voice acting was very creative. Good stuff!

xeno-software 2020-04-21 05:28

These graphics are sick! Loved the idea of protecting the person asleep. As a kid, I loved teddy bears, so this was kind of a nostalgic twist (if that makes sense?) Great job! I look forward to playing some more of your games!

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:32

@inka-mcatee Thanks a ton! And yeah that plushie cute aesthetic for the teddy bears is what I wanted to go for! Something cute turned into something cute and strong!

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:34

@vano Thanks dood! Yeah halfway through I was realizing for a jam it wouldn't be super unique gameplay and even if it has more potential to be better; a jam is short. So I was hoping people would enjoy the voice lines to a narrative children's book atmosphere more or less.

And I didn't even realize that voice line didn't get edited properly lol I was in such a rush to get it all out; glad it brought some funny to the game though!

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:35

@krucks Thanks dood! Yeah I realized after I had submitted and was able to sit down and play the jam version on my tablet that it really needs some sort of progression. Unfortunately I thought of the perfect progression and scoring too late into development.

But it's something I'm going to be adding with my team on a Google Play Release!

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:39

@drachmor Thanks dood it really does mean a lot! I just recently started voice acting and I'm pretty insecure about it still. But people have been enjoying it so it was worth doing!

I was actually inspired by my childhood Teddy bear that I recently found after I went from university. And it's always been a very positive influence on me and helped me through some tough times. Even got torn once by a "nightmare" in a sense but got patched up. So I remembered that and thought "Damn that's one badass teddy bear.".

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:42

@ldd Damn dood that's a really nice piece! Did you make it?

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:43

@xbcw Thanks dood! And it probably is lol, one thing I want to strengthen in a more full game release is the strategy to make more units and cost and upgrades more viable! (Add upgrades in general lol)

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:49

@billehbawb Thanks dood! And the feedback is very appreciated!

The walking through was really bad originally, this was my 2nd jam game with Unity so it was still a bit rough getting into AI. But I learned a lot from it and will be fixing that up! Because yeah it's incredibly annoying especially when you just want them to hold them off for a clutch moment. I wasn't able to fully patch it before the jam release sadly.

I do want to release a Google Play version that's much more complete with the strategy elements such as better ally AI and what not :D

low-mana 2020-04-21 05:55

@xeno-software Thanks dood! I just talked my Mom into helping me get a new tablet for drawing so I could start doing my own game art. I'm glad I can run back and tell her "Look Mom! My art isn't horrible!" lol and it was a lot of fun making!

If you wanna check out more of my stuff I post a lot on my Twitter @RaeaTheDev

scharma 2020-04-21 15:45

Cool idea, fun game. The voice over get repetitive quite quickly, and the paladin bears are a little overpowered when compared to the rest haha. I'm curious, are some bears spawning with only one eye intended? Thought it was cool :). Congrats on your project, well done

low-mana 2020-04-22 01:21

@scharma Thanks dood! Yeah I want to make a new audio system that reduces the repetitiveness/interruption of it and add more voice lines in the future!

The one eyed bears weren't intended, but when I saw them spawning in I wanted to originally add in optional features to make them feel more unique but didn't have time to. So their misgeneration ended up filling in that gap so I left them be :)

kanonix 2020-04-22 12:18

This is such a lovely idea ! It can definitely go far :) Well done for your first jam !

ulcius 2020-04-22 13:10

Ohhh, with the whole topic of fighter for hope vs fighter for despair i got the 'Danganronpa' feelings. Was it perhaps of any inspiration? The game was super nice! It's setting really good mood, I felt proud to fight for hope and I really felt for the fallen bears. I created army of good old fighter bears and they managed to stand still for so long. It's nice approach to "tower defense", cause you can try different kind of startegies.

whatnamegames 2020-04-23 16:05

Cute game, I like the storybook presentation

banzi 2020-04-24 09:35

Awesome game! Good job for the voice acting.

spacewizardj 2020-04-25 05:39

I think the voice adds a lot to this game. The number of times it repeats though begins to diminish its impact. I had difficulty because it always seemed my bears had their backs turned when enemies appeared. You got some cool enemies rigged and implemented in such a short time. I like the overall concept a lot! It's discouraging me from leaving a link here but click my name and just look at my entry haha. Thanks for letting me play your game!

derkuchen 2020-04-26 09:05

Cute idea! The animations are nicely done (the deamon with the hat!) Gameplay wise there was not a lot to do, and I had bad luck several times with all my teddy bears turning their back to the daemon wave just as it spawned, which did not feel so good.

linky439 2020-04-26 10:16

Nice one!

The idea is cute and well-thought. Like others pointed out though, my bears often have their back turned on the enemies, which resulted in their quick death and ultimately the death of the poor child. The counter of "hopes" was also half outside of my screen, so I had to guess if I was above 12 or not sometimes ^^

The voice is a nice idea, but it gets repetitive rather quickly unfortunately. Graphics are good (designs of the enemies are nice) Overall a strong entry (though I didn't find how to properly leave the game? I had to switch tabs and close it with a right click), congrats!

low-mana 2020-05-04 02:33

@kanonix Thanks a ton dood! It's not my first first jam, it's my first Ludum solo jam though :)

low-mana 2020-05-04 02:35

@ulcius Thanks dood! I've never actually played/watched? Dangaropa but people love it so I'm glad I can make something that makes people think of it! Doing something right :D I'm glad you enjoyed it! Right now I'm working with my Dad on bringing to a more finished version for Android!

low-mana 2020-05-04 02:36

@whatnamegames Thanks dood! The storybook presentation is really what I was going for and I was worried it might not catch. But so far it seems to have gone over well.

low-mana 2020-05-04 02:36

@banzi Thanks dood! I hope I can reach a level of voice acting where I can do my own voice acting in the future haha

low-mana 2020-05-04 02:40

@spacewizardj Thanks dood! It seems how often it plays has been the factor that hurts the narration the most. I was feeling like I was pushing it too hard with how often a dialogue option played. Me and my Dad did some revisions for the "commercial" version which we decided to recap each wave during intermission to keep the impact there without repeating voice lines as often.

The whole AI issues are pretty embarrassing hahaha, after this though I was able to make a much better AI for the new version I mentioned above.

I'll definitely check it out dood!

low-mana 2020-05-04 02:41

@derkuchen Thanks for playing dood! Yeah overall the super low level AI I made does seem to have been a very problematic part of the game.

Thankfully for the new version I'm working on with my Dad those AI issues are no more!

smallgaier 2020-05-06 22:20

I think the knight bears should be faster than the other bears because it's not quite useful enough to buy. But it's really cool how you're making an army of teddy bear to defend from the monsters.

nerd-sanctuary 2020-05-08 21:59

Very imaginative. Love the story-telling and creation of the overall illusion. Pulled me right in.

z4v0 2020-05-11 15:48

so awesome, perfect jam story telling game :)

honey 2020-05-11 18:36

The bears are just wondering around while your child is being eaten by those monsters! Evil little swines they are!
