LD42 — Running out of space

Postgirl by Noxalus 2018-08-13T14:02:11Z

I thought it was an easy game... then half a minute and I died burned under cardboxes :D Now I know Post officers is one dangerous job, I will appraciate post office workers more from now on :D Fun game! Really cool animation of hands

Rainforest by SimoGecko 2018-08-13T18:44:33Z

Woah, amazing graphics! That's really something! Controlling cart was quite hard, but with time i got used to how swingy it is. The idea itself is great! It reminded me of this old russian handheld game with catching eggs :D But in nicer, modern version :D https://i.ytimg.com/vi/m3kgHsHRPEI/maxresdefault.jpg

High Castle by Wheffle 2018-08-14T09:31:45Z

That game gave me so much more than I expected! It is quite complex, a lot of strategy thinking needed, but still with the right amount of dynamic. So far that's my favourite one. Still keep playing it. And a story! You did a good job, wasn't expecting a nice stroyline (i mean game has a lot of options, it's not a simple one and yet you managed to find time to make good music and a nice storyline. Really good job.

Downscaled by WongKongPhooey 2018-08-14T11:22:31Z

Graphics are so simple, yet extremly cool. That's what one should aim for, when making retro pixel game. It's really neat. Game is well balanced, easy when you don't care about score, hard when you want to master it. Ans somehow i think that type of gameplay would be best suitable for a rhythm game!:D

The Killer Blue Tiles by Alisiena 2018-08-13T18:07:40Z

There was no instructions, but the game was really self explanatory and it's always a good thing! It was simple, but yet idea was kind fun. Would play it for a longer time :D

Your Friend Compo by Ulcius 2018-08-13T21:07:17Z

@noxalus Thanks a lot! Oh no, definitely that's not normal.Somehow I just completely forgot to disable it. Actually I will fix it in a minute, thanks a lot for pointing that out!

LD45 — Start with nothing

ARCHITECT by Lucien Catonnet 2019-10-12T18:39:04Z

Ohhh, very cool entry, looks and feel like a finished product. Kind of addicting and nice to replay over and over

Minds are Mine by EggshellDog 2019-10-12T19:02:43Z

ha, very nice idea, kept me interested till the end. It was very cool, cause i always needed to find to new solutions to 'outsmart' the level, to finish it. Very, very nice

Heaven Services by Wojciech Bruski 2019-10-12T19:47:07Z

blad.png i was intrigued by the idea of not so very idle clicker, until I run to this bug. I couldn't buy higher bank capacity, cause it's cost was more than i could actually earn :x. Otherwise kinda cool. It took me a little bit to sort out that i actually can buy upgrades in the rooms, but was i learned it it was kinda smooth with buying upgrades and fixing computers. Also nice idea with the fact that first clicks needed to be earned manually by a player, nice touch.

The Firebrand by selkkie 2019-10-10T15:57:25Z

That's quite a gem we have here! I am super amused you were able to pull it all off in just 72 hours! It's like we have nicely polished and finished product here i would be willing to buy on steam or switch for a dollar or two. Think about releasing it!! The only issue i had was with slow reaction of notebook. Apart of that none. Time limit was a surprise, but a good one. Good game needs to have some kind of twist, introduce something new. The time limit and message made me realize I really was going in circles with picking unimportant threads. I just had to try one more time, to pick different ones. And there again to try picking only those i see lead somewhere. Actually i played 3 times ad still got bad ending, but I am determined to try again and get to the truth this time. There is plenty of good game jam games, but very rarely you find a game you are willing to replay few times (and come back to it after a day or two) :o Congrats

Oriopia by TheMuffinMan314 2019-10-09T16:32:52Z

firstly i thought it was egg smacking game and i kept losing :D but after reading instruction it started to make a lot more sense. Suddenly i learned how to fight enemies and started exploring. It was so cool to see the world changing, gaining colours. Very nice as an experience. And very well executed for such a short time :oooo

Small Town by Emiliabea 2019-10-12T16:08:07Z

was surprised it ended so fast but hey if every game ended with petting all the cats, the wprld would be a better place :D very neat art!!

The Terror that came from Nothing by Le Don 2019-10-09T12:16:30Z

Ok, I was seriously surprised by the mouse-pointer face :D i need more surprises like that in my life :D At the beginning i didn't know what was going on in the game, but once i sorted out the rules it quickly became kinda addicting!! Nice idea!!

Keep Me Burning by NavrcL 2019-10-10T17:31:17Z

I'm thrilled with visual side of this project, very very neat! Also loved to see your 'making of' video. Gameplay is not really my thing, but it has a great potenttial of becoming cool rougelike!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Abyssal Accessory by Junber 2020-04-23T21:40:51Z

that was super amazing, how tamagotchi stats were actually telling its own story. I had to pick up a phone and forgot to pause the game. While I was talking i was like oh no, game will probably end if i don't feed the squid - and it really did. I am grateful for putting a lot of details like that in game. I will start again asap! So far great storytelling, great art, great music. And the game isn't exactly short, I'm super impressed how you managed to make it so complete.

Unit 21 by a333 2020-04-27T14:16:27Z

It's absolutely astonishing! Both art and gameplay were top notch. It was extremely hard to figure out what i needed and could do even with tutorial, but that's totally fine with game jam games as for me. I will always take me time to try everything. After a while i figured what to do and game was absolutely fantastic. A lot of mechanics and ideas put together and polished. Very impressive you managed to do game this complicated (and this cool!) in such a short time! Congrats!

Small hints/feedback from me: 1. I think it would be wise to block possibility to play the game till we are done with reading tutorial. 2. I got stuck without possibility to move around, when i tried to deploy, while enemies were still on map (but it happened only once). 3. I couldn't understand while i sometimes could leave the map while being outside unit and sometimes not (maybe info was on a 'conversation' panel but i missed it) 4. Clickable parts of UI and text on the left panel could be more highlighted - for us players to know it is either important or clickable :)

Until We Freeze by icxon 2020-04-27T16:08:46Z

Music was very simple but set the mood for the game perfectly! I felt immediately attached to my friend fish. I carried her (i would like to think it's her!) everywhere and felt bad for leaving her. That is until i learned i can use TAB to switch items. I didn't read instructions before starting game and in actual game the instruction came pretty late for me (i firstly climbed up, then i went back and backtraced to find chicken noodle soup, then i finally learned TAB it may be useful to put it closer to starting point maybe ^^). It was simple, but very beautiful. Very good experience! I greatly liked it!

Abandoned by GRaAL 2020-04-27T13:41:04Z

Very interesting mechanics! It's extremely hard to create a sensible logic game on any game jam, but this one is very cool.It was hard to predict enemy movement before you got into its visibility area (at least for me) and I think that's for the plus. It makes playthroughs slightly different and more challenging, with still plenty of possibility to plan how to lure enemies. I liked this entry very much!

There is this bug though, that if i (as a yellow monster) get on the gate, before it's open i get stuck on it and can't move at all. I need to lose level at this point and try again.

The Dumb Kid's Job by Yvanor 2020-04-21T19:12:33Z

#JuniorIsOk - sadly, cause I would rather see him got some lesson out of this :D I really liked Dev breaking 4th wall here and there, it made the game super funny. Also mechanic was simple, yet cool. nothing makes a day better than some shooting and stealth

The Flower of The Elmhearst by SarahFrisk 2020-04-22T00:54:22Z

Really great art and interesting story. I was pleasently suprised games was that inclusive - that's a very nice touch! After library game got super laggy though and it made playing kind of hard.

A.D.A.M and E.V.E by Almax 2020-04-27T20:18:40Z

I am so happy that full game is going to come out March 1999, I am going to wait patiently!! Great entry! It set a mood straight from si-fi horror movie. I am usually not that good with horror settings in games though, but this game worked for me. The game could have used some kind of introduction, telling you what your aim is. At the beginning i didn't really know what i am supposed to keep alive, then i saw this ekhm beautiful baby :) i secured it and put it into healing machine. But wasn't sure why i should pick it up and go further instead of keeping it safe there. Once there was a bug where i killed every monster and picked up a baby but still couldn't cross gate. Time run out and happily auto save re-spawned me just before that room. So all hail to auto-save!! Nice feature! Overall i was super impressed with level of details you managed to put into your game. Graphically and mechanically it was all top-notch.

The Heart Of The Keep by BluShine 2020-04-27T00:27:16Z

I kind of liked learning what i need to do in the game by exploring and checking every possible nook and cranny, but at the same time I felt kind of lost. I generally think that learning game by experience is the best possible solution of any good design, but also think even in the most mystical and enigmatic game it's cool to give player some kind of at least major aim. Speaking about enigmatic and mystical game set a very very nice mood, ambient music also fit it perfectly.

Angst by Silas Reinagel 2020-04-23T17:07:11Z

The art is stunning (looks liek don'st Starve: office edition) and the topis is very nice. Sometimes I felt a little bit lsot with what to do next ( sticky notes in journal were almost unreadable), but I guess that's one of the traits of anxiety too. Well executed game!!

ORB by blaster391 2020-04-24T14:36:14Z

it was a little complicated at the beginning, even with tutorial. But once i replayed tutorial and game again I finally got a grip of how to handle it. And it was very fun afterwards. Love how the lightning works. Love variety of mechanics and the art. Impressive that you managed to add all of that during one jam!!

A Dangerous Errand by PapyKent 2020-04-23T17:18:03Z

loved the paper style of game and soudn effects :D But damn, i catched it.

The Little Bakery of Horrors by RobotsAndMuffins 2020-04-22T16:12:44Z

That's so funny, your post ended with "you need to feed sourdough" reminded me i really need to do so in real life too :D it's been a week! :D Very cool art and lovely game!! I love it when someone comes up with such an unique, yet adequate theme interpretation.

Cells by Gaming Night 2020-05-11T22:54:05Z

Amazing graphics. Effect is truly mindblowing. Where it comes to actual game i thought that it was pretty simple at the beginning and that all i need to do is to remember what to do and when. And well it still comes down to it, but it's certainly not that simple. A failure-repeat process where you constantly need to remember to save some 'resources' and 'build' new ones suited the game topic so well. It certainly felt like iw as running test all over and over again, trying new things and new in order to succeed

Until it blooms by Eryph 2020-04-21T20:27:56Z

Though it is describing sad things, the game gives a nice, warm feeling. Kind of melancholic, but beautiful mood. Simple managment mechanic are in great balance with that. Ans art is an eye candy!

Beat Sturgeon by ecmjohnson 2020-04-24T13:37:34Z

woooow, that was hard! :D i'm sucker for rhythm games, so i enjoyed it greatly. Addition of giving is tools for doctors was super challenging. Also the art is on point! The trailer is totally awesome, i was prepared to see Nintendo Switch Logo, it was so professional :D

Keep the Love Alive by notapixelstudio 2020-04-23T17:27:11Z

Couldn't play with the the other person, but it was still fun to play with AI. It wasn't very smart but still mamanged to play, and doing AI during game jam is still extremely hard job. So congrats! Loved the aesthetics of game: simple yet balanced and beautiful. Very very cool gameplay idea!

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-22T14:14:35Z

@yvanor @low-mana Thanks a lot! It means so much to me that I managed to make this game meaningful somehow. I usually just play around with mechanics, so it was something new for me. And @low-mana that's exactly what i tried to show! Also there are 4 endings to the game (or rather 4 choices at the end) but it all comes down to similiar feeling.

@krakadushka thanks!! I got few feedbacks saying this particular level (gift exchange, right?) is too hard. I updated game and now it's a lot easier if you care to check it out.

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-23T20:49:14Z

@notapixelstudio - ahh, sorry, it's Windows only. I used Game Maker and don't have proper license for web version or Mac. But I'm super happy that you are interested in seeing the game. I can record the game for you!

@gamer-fates Thanks a lot! I used Game Maker Studio 2.

@ecmjohnson @adam-clayden @shardykins Thanks a lot for good words and the input about the argument section. I had the feeling it was a little bit too cringy, but was in a hurry with finishing that section. But now i see it definitely need some changes and that i need to somehow give player a choice to lead this conversation more peacefully (with similar outcome though). I am super motivated to do it better ^^

@junber Thanks a lot! That's a great idea, I will do that!

@blaster391 @daniel-whittaker @robotsandmuffins @roz @brachistosauro Thank you all for a kind words! It makes me super motivated to further work on this game and make it better :)

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-23T22:56:43Z

@gamer-fates Yes!! If you can, that would be great. I would be super grateful! Here is the project https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dBEFqfDY3o-GIn50RbSEpswfAwme0GNr/view?usp=sharing

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-24T20:34:18Z

@thibaud-ligneul thanks!! I plan to rework the dialogue of the argument part soon, so it would hopefully feel better, with some actual different options!

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-26T10:56:25Z

@blushine Thank you for your very detailed feedback!! I will definitely redo the argument section, as it was also mentioned by others. I will try to create different set of options for the game. As about the handholding after argument i had no idea it could feel like it was forced on her, but that's certainly not my intent. I will try to change mechanic a little to show that she is not very affectionate about it, but not opposed to it.

As for gift exchange i wanted for it to feel like it's both a sign of love but also a small competition. I wanted to show that relationships are not always about fluffs and unicorns. Some relationships develop habits which comes from love, but end up slightly unhealthy (like the presents). And in every relationship people end up fighting sometimes, telling things they regret in a spur of a moment. Thus i wanted to show that even after doing something to fix it (giving a part of your heart) it's not always and not immediately enough to fix it, cause the wounds remain.

But after your comment I realized my basic mistake to make it more or less 'first person' game. Instead of telling : 'this is a story of (certain) relationship' I told player: this is game about you. And that may make people uncomfortable with some sections. As for now the only thing I can do, to slightly fix that, is to introduce the character at the beginning of the game. Can't really redo whole first person perspective now.

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-26T11:45:49Z

@gamer-fates Thanks so much for your help!! I am really grateful! I already uploaded it. I also subscribed to your youtube channel, looks promising, can't wait for ludum dare video.

Together by Ulcius 2020-04-26T11:59:38Z

@curleyrach @mehrdadsh Thanks a lot for your nice words!! I am happy to hear them ^^ @mehrdadsh I already played your game, very cool one!! I am also programmer/game designer! This art was max of my abilities (and a good tools at that), but i won't pursue career of a graphic designer for sure, ha ha, thanks a lot for the offer though, it means it turned out pretty nicely then :)

Brainstorm by Shakedimus 2020-04-23T22:23:24Z

Connected some crazy words :D it actually could be used to get some nice ideas! It was a little bit laggy on my computer though

Brainstorm by Shakedimus 2020-04-25T10:29:55Z

@shakedimus I do have mozilla firefox installed and used, but seems like you already found the issue and fixed :)

The Keep is Alive by OwlyCode 2020-04-21T21:53:01Z

The visuals are really great. Cool perspective and camera work. Character is super cute. I really liked the mechanic, it was certainly something different. It was very easy to get stuck on stones and trees on the beginning, but the more I played the more i grasped the idea. It seems that unless i visited city across bridge i wasn't able to swim, that actually nice thing, that different cities make you better in different ways, but it may be good idea to hint visually what they will help you with.

IngloriousDISCO by AxelOlivier 2020-04-23T17:13:08Z

Ha, nice game for a little keyboard work-out before starting actual work :) Was very pleasant to check it out.

Ah, btw, UI in HTML5 version was slightly cut off.

DR U's Magic Medicine by Adam Clayden 2020-04-24T00:57:49Z

First time in my life I've seen pimples on eyes, teeth and hair! That was super funny. Totally didn't expect voice acting, that was a nice touch. Simple, but very fun!

EDO by Jozef 2020-04-24T11:31:50Z

I am totally impressed by tutorial! I am never brave enough to make good interactive tutorial on game jam, in fear i won't make it in time, but here you pulled off very, very nice one! I like how complex game is. There is a lot of elements to manage, they are both super funny and present cool functionality. It was very hard to manage all of them once i started playing, but that's charm of the game I think. I am going to be an expert on multitasking after this :D Also the tentacle mechanic and aniamtion are super smooth!

Necromancer by krakadushka 2020-04-24T11:51:51Z

My evil team defeated enemy, hooray! Would be awesome to somehow see the difference of defeating enemy with good or evil team, it would make the choice matter even more. Anyway that is one of my favourite entries! The level of detail you put into art and writing is astonishing. It was well balanced, easy to understand and very fun to play! Great job!

Stay home Gramps by jxavier 2020-04-21T22:02:42Z

Nice, simple game. I wanted to say that it would be fun to make this gradually harder...but considering, what the game is about, mayne that's not best idea, ha ha :id: Nice art styl!

Constance by Oakwarrior 2020-04-21T19:16:20Z

Game is very hard, but it doesn't get you bored or frustrated - that's how I like it. It's amazing how you managed to put game like this together. Everything is super pro. Art, writing, voice acting, mechanic. Very very wholesome!!!

A Tree by ditam 2020-04-27T19:52:51Z

Feels like i learned something about growing and sustaining healthy tree. At beginning i was just clicking whatever came to my mind, but i realised i need to be wise on take different things into the account in order for tree not to die. A visual feedback to everything i spend resources on would be nice thou. With breanches etc i wasn't sure if i reallu "build" something. Great small game! I liked it.

FIREGUARD by Puszkee 2020-04-29T01:03:33Z

Very cool game! At the beginning i had some problems with controls and figuring out what it is i need and can do, but I got it eventually. At the beginning i was just collecting branches and throwing them in fire to sustain it's size, that seemed natural. I also tried to throw branches at enemies, but it seemed to do nothing, then i discovered that i can set them on fire and was like woah. Then I also discovered I can actually throw fire branches at trees to burn them and it generates more branches. That level of interactive and thought-through environment is always very welcome, it reminded me of smart moves Don't Starve introduced. Very nice entry!

FIREGUARD by Puszkee 2020-04-29T12:16:21Z

@slimbun No, I didn't. I usually try game without and only turn to tutorial when I can't understand game. It's more fun that way. Pretty sure that's the case for bunch of players. Did I get something wrong though? Anyway if game can be understood without tutorial it means it it a good game, in my believe.

Feed My Frankenstein by LurkerRIP 2020-04-24T10:18:33Z

very smart ideas behind mini games, good way to mimic real life activities like pulling the lever or cutting the wood. Game was very hard, but that's what make it more addicting, so for me, that's actually very cool :) Art is super nice, music is cool. Great game! On Html5 version, wood is where to itch.io follow button, which make it hard to operate sometimes (but still doable)

Reload by Waqar Naeem 2020-04-24T00:51:28Z

Woah the controls of the tank were really cool! Those drifts! :D Very good first game!!

Final Interrogation by Gamer Fates 2020-04-23T22:53:40Z

That was super nice. Gave my a feeling of good old Ace Attorney series. Would love it to be longer, cause i was just getting into the story and expected to learn some plot twists hard way. But i know it's compo and time was running out not only for the detective/victim :D I liked how you managed to make a nice art for the cases and intro animation. Writing was very very cool.

On the beginning though i didn't quite get the fact that with arrow i can change person (thought it would mean going to next scene).

DI(e)NO(t) by Thibaud Ligneul 2020-04-24T20:59:12Z

gotta love those renaissance dinos! Renaissance dinos for the win! You nailed it with the art, it's super nice. Gameplay is simple, but very fun at the same time.

Would love it wasn't up the the luck that much though. For example if meteorites/vulcano spawned on free spaces (not on top of each other/close to each other) or on harder level highter probability that meteorite will try to aim at dinos)

May2020-Attack Of The Karens by Daniel Whittaker 2020-04-24T12:43:55Z

if only cold facts could defeat Karens in real life :D Loved the Karen model and quotes, had me laughing all the time! The UI, especially map is really nicely done. Overall it's new and fun approach to actual tower defense, liked it very much. It got a little bit laggy after few replays. I had to shut down game and start it again for it to work smoothly. That wasn't big of a deal though.

QT's Cells by Mental Inaction 2020-05-12T22:21:08Z

Ohh that was way more deep that I was expecting :o I was very task oriented at the beginning, but the other unit moved my heart. I just couldn't sacrafice it. I was so glad game took that into account and there was an ending for when you are choosing not to do so. Thank you for making that!

Ubergine by curleysam 2020-04-27T00:38:14Z

Ohhh I feel like i got a lot better at multi-tasking now! :D Was extremely hard at beginning, but with every time I managed to survive longer and longer. I absolutely love games where i need to make 2 different things at the same time, totally serious. It's a good exercise. Controls were very smooth, i will try to play on gamepad next time. Also I do wonder how fun it would be to play it in co-op. Was it supposed to by palyes by either 1 or 2 players?

Social Distancing For LadyBugs by mehrdadsh 2020-04-24T00:47:21Z

very addicting! Couldn't stop replaying again and again :D Wise ladybugs, cool game! Good job with your first game jam!

Bakeneko no Ko by makkurataichou 2020-04-22T13:54:27Z

Ohhh, that was super nice. I liked story from the beginning, very good writing. But when it came to interactive elements, woow :) such a great ideas, don't want to spoil it to others in this comments, but please play till the end :) Also i wish i was player 51 :)

Nightmare Knights by Low Mana 2020-04-22T13:10:53Z

Ohhh, with the whole topic of fighter for hope vs fighter for despair i got the 'Danganronpa' feelings. Was it perhaps of any inspiration? The game was super nice! It's setting really good mood, I felt proud to fight for hope and I really felt for the fallen bears. I created army of good old fighter bears and they managed to stand still for so long. It's nice approach to "tower defense", cause you can try different kind of startegies.

Deer Quest by Brachistosauro 2020-04-24T12:26:13Z

It really was deeply unsettling - in the meaningful way. Good job on wrapping actually very hard topic in funny writing and setting. Mechanics were super nice and i loved the diversity in enemy behaviours. The last battle was a little hard, it could be useful to show many times you need to hit the guy to win. Also very cool art!

Koita and the Elder Relics by Toasted Oregano 2020-04-21T20:48:23Z

It has a certain 'Undertale' feeling to it in music, visuals and humor. I was laughing so hard, when I saw guillotine in doctor's office. Jump mechanic was a little weird, but got used to it. Overall it was very fun to go around, talk to different creatures and collect relics.

A Tail Of Ice And Fire And A Tree by Jawsarn 2020-04-21T18:57:14Z

classic, yet very refreshing. Well balanced and just simply fun to play - and that's what most important :)

Keep Me Alive by Texz 2020-04-28T19:25:13Z

Those graphics, this music. The storyline. Everything is perfect here!!! Game of the Year ia granted!! :D
