The dinos are so cute with their tiny (or rather enormous) hats. Artstyle amazing, the only down side imo is the timer going too quickly down and too slowly up

corny 2020-04-20 15:48

I really like how the dinos wear different hats depending on the times they're in. Classy!

I love the graphical design, and you executed the concept you had in mind pretty well.

The thing that bugged me though is that I didn't really notice the energy meter that dinos had, and it isn't really mentioned anywhere, so for the first couple of moments I was convinced that something was broken - i was holding LMB and yet the dinos had minds of their own! I ended up figuring it out later though, so it's all good.

fedora 2020-04-20 17:07

Really cute aesthetics! Made it to the future, all my dinos but one died in the first 30 seconds. Took me a while to realize I only had limited movement.

schwarcraft 2020-04-20 18:00

The hats were my favorite part. Absolutely loved it. This game would sell fantastic t-shirts.

My one feedback is it seemed easier the fewer dinos I had. I was happy to let a few die at the start of the game to make it less hectic.

raguel 2020-04-20 20:02

What a cute game. When I first saw how hats changed I was charmed. But there was some strangeness with controls. But I can it is great game.

lalada 2020-04-21 09:02

Cute Game. I made them surive by leading them to the corner :)

PS: The modern dinosaur(darwindocus) is my best XD

mrowka 2020-04-21 10:56

Very cute, too bad the stamina goes low so fast I wanted to save them all Great work!

lucien-catonnet 2020-04-21 11:30

Really cute dinosaurs and general graphics. It was pretty hard and a bit too random, I ended up cheating by putting my dinosaurs outside of the screen x) I think you've got an interesting concept because if you don't click enough they wander and die but if you click too much they end up in the same place so a single hit could wipe them all at once, but it needs some refinement to avoid the whole randomness issue, and perhaps the dinos were a little too slow for the steering to matter. Cool entry, congratulations on shipping :)

P.S.: The cyranodocus is the best <3

ribout-horace 2020-04-21 17:24

Simple, but so efficient ! The different time are good, the stamina is stressfull, and the overall is just superb ! (you just need a music now)

njm-games 2020-04-21 18:42

The hats were a great touch

palsina 2020-04-22 13:52

Dinos with funny hats?! you make a strong case for best games here! Its simple but fun to play, a good time.

thibaud-ligneul 2020-04-22 15:16

Thanks everyone for your feedback! We had to cut some corners to meet the deadline, but we're happy to see that you enjoy it anyway!

bigsylvain 2020-04-22 16:23

I really like the game title, the art and the original gameplay! I think the game depends a bit too much on luck, since sometimes it is possible to just wait and let the dinos roam in the same place during 30 seconds, and on the other side the dinos are a bit slow, sometimes it is not possible to escape a meteor or volcano :'(

Good job on your jam entry anyway :)

kayacarlton 2020-04-22 19:38

REALLY liked this game. Very cute art, simple gameplay that is easy to undestand and a bit challenging (finished the game with just one dino). Love the pun. Really great. GJ !

empheon 2020-04-22 21:16

I'm definitely a ramsesdocus2, its hat is way too fab and I'm jealous of its beard.

The game was fun and I'm glad I managed to save those dinos from hell. The art is great, maybe some background music would be nice but overall I loved it!

rosypenguin 2020-04-22 23:27

Thanks for playing our game! It's amazing how we came up with similar premises but had completely different approaches to the gameplay and mood. Love the cute artwork; Apollodocus is my fave. The cheery ending screen made my day! Dino2.PNG

gnd95 2020-04-23 00:41

Great little game. The artstyle is really nice.

A narrativa é simples: sobreviva. Hahahahahah.

gustavo-christino 2020-04-23 22:38

Evaluation...

1 - Mechanics, Learning and Flow: Well, you have an energy bar and you can spend it guiding your current set of dinosaurs in the direction you click. In addition, dinosaurs have a flock behavior with some random movements (as I understand it) and some flock footprint (I don't know if the random is stronger, or if cohesion is stronger in this case). Learning to play was very simple, because it is a one-button game (for computers it seems to work well at the current speed, at least if the goal is to reach only a small group at the end). The game has a flow more for anxiety than for boredom (I think that made it more challenging). I missed some diversity in the threats and the background (but the skins of the dinosaurs were already something interesting and characteristic). The end didn't have a victory screen (as I understand it), it was all too fast and I clicked wrong and restarted (unfortunately).

2 - Graphics, Audio, Narrative and Polishment: I really liked the art used (unfortunately I didn't see a diversity of threats between the ages). What gave me the impression that a bunch of intergalactic titans are trying to stop me from winning (hahahahah). The audio was in charge of the sound effects (a background track based on each period would come as a good thing, but for Ludum Dare's time, I think only one would be nice, maybe with some addition of sound layer or changing the volume) . The narrative is simple: survive. Hahahahahah. It would be possible to reproduce and have micronarratives between seasons, but it would not be work for game jam time.

3 - Culture: Involving dinosaurs always brings some people (it is in the interest of many people to know more about such animals). Hahahahah. If each era had an extinction problem, it could take even more advantage of the cultural focus. :)

4 - Monetization: Because it is a one-button game, I think it matches to be sold on mobile.

thibaud-ligneul 2020-04-24 14:51

@gustavo-christino Congrats on winning with four dinos! And thank you for your elaborated feedback, we'll study all of that.

arzi 2020-04-24 15:44

Lovely art and nice idea for the game, but I felt like the stamina ran out a bit too quickly.

rohezal 2020-04-24 18:51

Bildschirmfoto von 2020-04-24 20-41-57.png

Maybe add some music for each episode and a few other kind of obstacles (like a meteor which runs down a line or water rising except at a few hills). But the game is a lot of fun and a great entry. The graphics are gorgeous :).

ulcius 2020-04-24 20:59

gotta love those renaissance dinos! Renaissance dinos for the win! You nailed it with the art, it's super nice. Gameplay is simple, but very fun at the same time.

Would love it wasn't up the the luck that much though. For example if meteorites/vulcano spawned on free spaces (not on top of each other/close to each other) or on harder level highter probability that meteorite will try to aim at dinos)

jmad 2020-04-24 21:01

I surviveeed! Well, with only one dino since medieval age, but erm... that still counts. The art is so freaking adorable, and their tiny hats was the cherry on top.

sndr 2020-04-25 09:47

I was only able to get to Modern Times and OH I LOVED THE CONCEPT. It was a bliss to play this! The small dino hats made me smile so much. They were so adorable, and I cared about them from the start.

thibaud-ligneul 2020-04-25 15:32

@ribout-horace @empheon @rohezal : Great news, we updated the game with evolutive music! Tell us what you think of it!

@jmad @sndr : Glad you liked it

@arzi @ulcius : Thanks for your feedback, it will help us for our future entries!

niwol 2020-04-25 16:12

fun game, it fits well with the theme

lungtakumi 2020-04-25 16:16

Your game have a similar topic to mine. Nice graphic, cute dinosaurs! Creative gameplay.

emmatw 2020-04-25 16:25

Cute game! The random movement of the dinos was a nice addition. Maybe it would be fun to add an element that makes the player "want" to keep as many dinos as possible alive, I just ended up killing off all but one in the beginning (even if keeping that one alive also became challenging in the end). Overall a really nice entry, well done!

joe-cowman 2020-04-25 17:28

Very clever game! The art and music are brilliant, and I love the evolution of the dinosaurs' headgear over time. The only thing I might have changed is the controls were a bit unintuitive to me. Since clicking on a destination moved *all of* the dinosaurs, it was difficult to actually dodge asteroids. I think if there was some way to control just one dinosaur at a time it would have made playing feel a lot more active and less chance-based! But all in all, really wonderful game. Congrats on completing the jam and thank you so much for sharing!

ribout-horace 2020-04-25 20:59

Thanks for the new music ! (the modern times are so great !)

natalie-sodomkova 2020-04-25 21:15

Its really cute and nice, but the gameplay feels a bit too random and sometimes punishing. Could be slower.

adriana 2020-04-26 11:28

Hilarious artstyle, engaging and fun gamplay, and a perfect title :) I had a really good time playing your game! In the last few levels I found out it was simply easier to stay hidden in a corner with my dinos to avoid meteorites, so probably the difficulty level and meteorites spawning needs a bit of balancing. Thanks for making this game!

duck-reaction 2020-04-26 13:44

I love the dinosaurs! It's very cute game and funny, I like the concept and the different changes when you pass a new age. Thanks for the meteor shadow that's helpful! To polish, maybe more sounds feedback when your stamina is low would be cool. Great job :)

svenerik 2020-04-26 13:52

Lovely game and cute art style. My dino's did get stuck somewhere though, even though it seemed like there was enough room, the vulcano that appeared in the south managed to block them with an invisible wall. Had that several times, but overall a solid game!

azathothep 2020-04-27 09:29

Nice game, very well made! Art and music are great (the little hats are so cute :3), the gameplay is simple but well crafted, I don't feel like it lacks something. I miss a few more diversity for the dangers though, maybe tied to the century (you could avoid some Eiffel Towers spawning from the ground during the modern times ~~and some crashing planes~~, for example). A larger ground could be also a nice addition, it's a bit too small right now imo. But it's still a very good entry for a jam, congratulations!

israel 2020-04-29 13:01

Very cute! I like how the art and music adapts to the certain era. Controls were a lil confusing to start with, but got the hang of it very quickly. Can see this potentially progressing further into a full game. awesome work!

thibaud-ligneul 2020-04-30 10:25

Thank you very much everyone for your feedback!

@azathothep : we planned on adding other disasters, but ran short on time... Didn't think of Eiffel towers spawning out of the ground though, but hilarious idea! :joy:

euforia-games 2020-05-01 13:58

The game was very cute and I enjoyed it a lot. One of the better entries in this event. :))))))

play-pause-games 2020-05-01 18:15

great fun! love the humor

quadape 2020-05-01 19:28

Very fun and simple premise, but extremely good execution! Graphics are very cute and pretty, all new docuses made me chuckle! I didn't notice that you posted them in here, so waiting to see new ones was a good motivation to go forward. Maybe it would be best if you kept them secret on the game page? I don't know. Anyway, very nice and cute game!

krammetje 2020-05-01 22:53

This art is just amazing!

Game feels a bit fast, but overall really fun.

Going through time is a really nice idea. We need more hats!

dk5000p 2020-05-08 16:34

Yay, my dinos survived. I really liked the cute dinos, seemed you could win by just remaining at the top of the screen, but besides that small things everything else was great.

sharks 2020-05-08 16:36

Wow is there anything past the past modern times part? Simple but fun gameplay! Although I felt it was a little hard to tell wether or not a dino would be killed by a asteroid, like if there body is outside of the shadow but their head is in it will they survive? Solid entry!

thibaud-ligneul 2020-05-08 16:43

@sharks Yes there is! Well, finding the hitbox is part of the experience :relieved: ("*and other things you can tell to avoid giving a real answer*")

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I'm playing your games too!

catalystl 2020-05-08 16:46

Nice game. it has a lot of charm, but the gameplay is a little slow in my opinion. I would add some more dangers like things following you at a slow pace and maybe another group of dinosaurs you have to keep alive with a different input.

mineiwik 2020-05-08 16:58

Dino survived! Really nice game. Well done! #team_lancelodocus

naca 2020-05-08 17:48

Love your cute dinos!! I like this game very much. I even managed to survive with more than 1 dino after a few replays, I think there were 5 but in the end the game did not tell me how many! If you add a dino count to the end screen it would be a nice improvement in my opinion.

Every other aspect of the game is fantastic: lovely artwork, great and diverse music for each age, proper animations... and dinos wearing fancy hats  It's such a great work, congratulations!

fabula-rasa 2020-05-08 18:43

That was super cool. The sounds and music were just awesome. Graphics are very nice as well. Cyranodocus all the way!

It is a very nice and fun concept. I enjoyed playing it and really have nothing to complain about. I didn't encounter any bugs. It's just a well-polished great experience! I managed to save 3 dinos :)

jared-york 2020-05-08 19:28

I really enjoyed this game! The graphics style works amazingly well. I made it to 111m A.C. I also really enjoyed the sounds as well. Solid entry.

falzock 2020-05-09 08:29

It was really fun to play this game. The idea to go time is well integrated into your game and I love the art style. Well done!

lazzydev72 2020-05-10 13:14

Very nice Gameplay i had fun love it The dino moving animation is so cool and satisfying. :v:

ggrusha 2020-05-10 14:00

The idea is a bomb! I really liked the gameplay and dinosaurs. I never managed to win. I panic too much when I play and care about dinosaurs)

thank you for your work!кикр.png

honey 2020-05-10 14:22

Made it to the end! Played few times, the initial runs were pretty challenging, the latter ones though I kinda optimized the fun out of the game, herded all my dinos to the corner and survived there throughout the history :) I'd say a little less randomness for the next strike would be better, so that nobody can live peacefully in the corner like me :)

I love the artstyle and the idea you went for, dinos are cute and their personalities in different periods are fantastic :) Also the mechanic that all the area gets more and more cramped and navigation is more and more difficult is pretty well thought out! Graphics of meteorites and volcanos are also great and the impacts and erruptions do feel good!

I would prefer better control over the dinos (maybe more stamina, faster replenishing, faster dinos or something like that) so that there were a bit more interesting situations like hitting volcanos when running from meteorite, which rarely happened to me because I rarely run any greater distance due to low stamina. I found myself in what I thought to be the optimal strategy (even before cornering dinos) when I move the dinos only as little as possible, which meant not moving at all for some time.

Still great few minutes spent with your dinos, overall it was very, very uplifting and pleasant experience! :)

sandra-martinez 2020-05-10 14:34

That's a cute game, I like the art style of it. I suggest changing bg theme as the player move to the next level as well, not only the dino's hat.

thibaud-ligneul 2020-05-11 09:37

Thank you @honey for your feedback! @sandra-martinez : We wanted to do that, but ran out out time... The backgrounds do exist however! Annotation 2020-05-11 113704.png
