How They Survived by Florent Juch 2020-04-24T12:27:57Z
The throwing mechanic is really smart, though it took me some time to get the hang of it. Great graphics and sfx!

Nice spin on the popular block-connect genre. The mechanic is very well thought out and the addition of characters maybe isn't something very big but adds interest on top. Well done!
The gameplay wasn't very appealing, but this is one of the best theme interpretations I've ever seen on a jam
Great game! Pretty challenging on these tight corridors. Love the graphics, especially the fact that walls sparkle on the edges (little detail but adds so much).
I would introduce new content sooner, you need to play for a bit to see anything but brown walls. Especially for a game jam, when people need to play a lot of games and skip rather quickly.
Such an innovative idea! Great artwork and polish.
I found a little glitch, when you move a tile when the baby is falling and catch it, it gets stuck in a wall
Really cool! Would make a great mobile game.
I think the phone should reset when you die and not only when the level restarts. This would get rid of the "reset level" interface, which is very good because less interface -> more immersion.
As for the timer, the game (as I see it for a mobile game) has a relaxing mood and art, which is very suitable for a mobile game, but the timer is so tight that it demolishes all the relax. I would lengthen the timer and maybe add some cheat to it, like making the lower half slower (or something else depending on what part of the bar the player enjoys finishing on the most)
Nice concept.
I would add a possibility to hold a button to write, as soon as I realized it is not writing what I type I just started clicking one button, which got frustrating.
Does the "I feel lucky" button do anything except for pop? I do feel lucky today so wanna know :)
Phh, in childhood I had more.
Jokes aside. Simple idea, good execution. Nice job!
Very good artwork and sound. Really like the merge of a topdown shooter and an rpg game.
At some locations I felt there were too many enemies (of the same type also) and that I have no way of killing them all with a restricted ammo count.
But overall: Magnifique jeu!
It reminds me of Space Station 13. Good job!
Really good game, the art is amazing and the torch mechanic fits the theme well.
It got buggy at times though, I once jumped on water, once was in water and didn't die and once got teleported to the begining for no reason :)
Really cool mechanic, great execution and feel
The camera was sometimes more of a foe than a friend
Really nice! Love the fish concept and the cutscene at the beginning is of good humor.
Cool concept, never seen such game before!
I would decrease the enemy count at the beggining to let the player get used to the mechanics in a safer environment
Really nice twist on Tetris-like games, I didn't get the idea of building a "snake" at first, so I just made straight towers, but had fun nonetheless
Very cool game with an innovative concept. Nice take on the card-playing video game genre. The graphic design reminds me of Portal and the gameplay, don't know why of Superhot
I would make the tutorial more interactive, the talking is suuuper long.
There is a little abuse also, if you click the human and then click a card the human moves and you can still use the power
Think I got a perfect run on the second level (x151, beat it!). Overall, nice twist on a music game, adding a basic storyline was a good idea
Cool management game, beautiful graphics.
It took me a bit to fully understand the mechanic, maybe add an interactive tutorial?
Really good game. Floaty controlls, like in celeste (classic). Good challenge and level design. And great graphics.
The only down thing is that spikes are barely visible and it gets frustrating when you need to die on every single one of them to remember their position
The monochromatic theme changing into the colorfull one is a really good idea and works perfectly for this game
The sounds of the gnoms are just brilliant. Good job!
Cool platformer and great graphics.
I think the introductory space could be shorter
Really nice! Great graphics, audio and overall mood
The art compensates the clicker mechanic ;)
Not much of a gameplay for now, but the art is beautiful and the mushrooms' sound effects are gorgeous
Very interesting game. Really good concept and great execution. The battle for the club is my favourite stage
Wow, the simplistic graphic design and the sound add so much to the mood. Good job!
Lovely graphics and a charming mood. Good job!
Great that it is a co-op game (get as many passes as possible) and not a versus
Nice little game!
Amazing pixel-art and the best title ever, since it pops up instead of the "zero" filter in compo game-browsing
The fact that you included the "lose on purpose" button in a game about a jam makes me laugh :)
Amazing idea to give each animal a unique minigame related to it's most recognizable characteristic, like a sleepy owl or flipped turtles (who's gonna get the pizza?, I bet on Leonardo)
Some games were bit buggy, like the toothbrush going into the crocodile's teeth and becoming impossible to move, but it didn't spoil the experience (oh I spent quite a time with the crocodile). Also, I think the panda minigame needs more clarification or a longer timer
Was hoping for a giraffe minigame :) , don't know what happens after all buildings are unlocked (didn't have that much time  ) maybe there is a giraffe final challenge or something?
Pixel-art is on point and the game is really fun.
On the flip side, mashing the flee btn can get frustrating
I would suggest randomizing the dungeon a bit, I think now it's always slime, slime, skeleton etc. and you can fight the easy slimes, get 4 coins and flee (or at least try to ;) )
The game is fun with it's creepy mood and graphics. Nice take on the theme!
I don't get why you uploaded the HTML version if it's unplayable (even as a sample)
Such a great concept! With cute graphics too :)
Very innovative! And with cool graphics
For me the elder talks for too long
The buttons at the top make a great addition to the interface
You could have told me about the double jump in the first stage, at first I thought it's impossible :D
Well although there is no gameplay I felt like in a kittengarten and the graphics were cute!
Wow clever idea with the battery. Also, good level design
I myself planted a corn tree in my garden, don't know why it doesn't want to grow, weird thing
Good doze of humor, the pictures of the lady are just amazing.
Don't know what's going on in the cornflake palace, but must be fun (maybe some soylent green production)
Very original in it's design. I didn't get the mechanic and what I was supposed to do at first, but now I think I figured it out
Glad I had a good contract and my family got the last paycheck
Nice little platformer with a twist. Pretty cool idea with the egg (though it's kinda weird you throw it, it could break).
I don't get why there are no checkpoints and you need to play through the tutorial every time you die
Nice reference to Stephen King!
Nice and simple mechanic with an immersive storytelling.
I was in a room with no exit except for the one I came from, was it the end or just a dead end and I should have backtracked a bit?
Really fun idea! Love the aesthetics and character design. The only thing which bothers me is the movement, it sometimes is fast and responsive but other times is super slooow, hope this is a bug you will patch in a post-jam update or as a hottfix
Great graphics! The gameplay wasn't very immersive, but I guess that's how work is
As a sidenote, the notes on the piano are in incorrect positions (the group of two black keys is above CDE, not ABC)
@trmrddr Oh, I see
Nice and simple, I like it.
Well, I won't be able to sleep at night (from laughter, not because I didn't save some fish), but I agree that this game was made with love... and clay
@ludipe Thanks! You've got a score greater than 32000, so I'll tell you a little fun fact. So Pico-8 is 16-bit with first bit being reserved for the sign, so the maximum possible integer is 32767. When playtesting I realized that after some training it is not that hard to get above this barier. When you go 1 above 32767 you have nowhere to go but to -32768 so you could get a negative score. At first I wanted to make a negative score achievement, but then the game would end cause it couldn't really track your score afterwards (negative score would feel weird to beat) so instead I append "00" to the end of the score, so sorry your true score is mere 360 :D
@jimanzium Yeah, in 48h I didn't have had enough playtesting and so specific numbers for the frequency of blue coins and the amount they sped up the game were just guesses based on intuition. Also since coin spawning is not much scripted sometimes you get almost no blue coins for a long time and other times you get a lot (I once got five) in one spot.
Really good puzzle game, like the bucket mechanic that if you're holding one the others block you, has a lot of potench
Although I get your point with "lose nobody" approach () I think that the long curly levels are unnecessary and are not crucial for introducing the mechanic (but oh god are they long, especially the one you need to go through twice, one misclick and you dead)
The "yay" and "again" sounds, my favourite
The dinos are so cute with their tiny (or rather enormous) hats. Artstyle amazing, the only down side imo is the timer going too quickly down and too slowly up
Nice twist on a doom-like mechanic, getting close gives you hp, but also puts in danger. A vampire fits it very well.
Nice shooter with cool graphics.
I would make the robot shoot with a constant stream of bullets when the mouse button is held (when holding maybe slow down rotation or movement to balance this out), mashing of the right mouse button is not much fun :)
Really like the end note when you lose
Cool title and mood! There are loads of enemies :)
Great graphics and audio! Pity you didn't finish it
Really cool and innovative!
Some colors are hard to distinguish when in rush (like red and orange)
Nice art! Hope you add some cool music in a post-jam update
My comment got duplicated and I don't know how to delete it
Petals as your health is a really cool idea! Good job!
Great mechanic! Though it would need a little bit more polish: for example when you die the game doesn't let you respawn and you need to wait for the bad guys to shoot the civilian or the falling boxes sometimes don't kill (which is crucial in level 4 or 5). Overall good job!
Really hard to keep it alive ;)
Cool concept and artwork! Pretty innovative mechanic too
I think I would like it better if the guy walked and jumped by his own, it would make more sense to me.
Great music and graphics (why did you opt out of the audio rating).
I like the mechanic, I think it could be even better if you needed to drag the watering can to the plant instead of just clicking.
Really innovative mechanic!
One thing though, it's weird to me that you can slow down as a vase. I think without it the level design (slope of the ground) would have a powerful tool to modulate the difficulty and pace of the game.
Great graphics and gameplay!
The fact that you can place many walls on one tile lowers it's difficulty, but I still died in my first attempt.
It's great you added both visual and sound indication for when the enemies spawn
The humor was on point :D
Really cool idea and theme interpretation. It is sometimes really hard to aim properly as the controlls don't allow for subtle movement
@jamjar Certainly it would help :)
