Wow Will! Loved your entry. I'd give you some criticism but I'm so impressed with your entry that I swear to you that I can't find a way to criticize. I loved it, thanks for surprising me.

The puzzles were hard for me but I'm tired after the jam, and they're what I expect them to be, so that's fine.

Not a great feedback but I hope that helps!

If you have time, please check my profile and give me some constructive feedback on my game (:

EDIT: One thing that I can think of is this type of puzzle requires you to have time to think, and when the baby moves you can't think at all, so it becomes inconsistent. It puts an enormous amount of pressure on the player.

wubbaduck 2020-04-20 03:58

This was great! Is it bad that not only did I have fun figuring out all of the puzzles, but I also had a lot of fun seeing how many different way the baby could... umm... cease to exist. Well done!

cagibi 2020-04-20 08:30

Pixel-art is cute! I also like the idea of a time constraint on top of a usually timeless puzzle - and driving a fearless baby to various dangers. Adding a way to speed up (or pause) the game would have been perfect, but eh, compo games :P

jiri-hysek 2020-04-20 11:30

That's awesome! Great mashup of games with reeealy cute graphics :) And a toddler fearlessly exploring world without sense of self-preservation - that's spot-on!

zzox 2020-04-20 13:12

Spikes, cannons and a baby! Really cool concept and implementation, outside the box as well.

ssstormy 2020-04-20 14:46

The baby got stuck in a wall during one of the later levels :(.

The progression is solid! It kept me on my toes and was interesting.

Overall pretty nice :)

cryptomnesic 2020-04-20 15:22

Impressive polish as usual. I found the title screen harder than many of the levels! Nerf title screen.

madbookstudios 2020-04-20 15:42

Amazingly polished. Brilliant idea and execution! Such a clever puzzle game with adorable art. My only suggested area for improvement would be a slight bit more time spent on developing the music. Oh, and I loved the intro sequence where you have to create the title - it shows you how the game works in a fun, interactive manner!

corny 2020-04-20 16:20

As a previous commenter said, the hardest stage ended up being the title screen!

An amazing concept, great execution, I didn't encounter any bugs on my playthrough, the music was fitting, the sound effects too... Simply amazing!

motley 2020-04-20 16:23

Such an innovative idea! Great artwork and polish.

I found a little glitch, when you move a tile when the baby is falling and catch it, it gets stuck in a wall

brandon-js-lea 2020-04-20 17:17

Controls could really do with some indicators, like arrows that appear when you hover over the boxes. I spent about a minute trying to drag the boxes and thought the game was broken. Overall though, this was good. I've seen similar concepts but this is probably the best execution. The one thing that could do with some work is that most of the puzzle pieces felt unused, so it was more of a "guess I've done it" rather than "IVE DONE IT!" feeling.

njm-games 2020-04-20 18:17

Pretty solid submission, I thought it looked really hard when I saw it but it was surprisingly ok.

hulien22 2020-04-20 18:50

Really cool concept, and very well polished! I've never been good at these tile games, so I will admit the title screen was probably the hardest level... ran into the same bug people mentioned above about the baby getting stuck in tiles, but otherwise a really good game!

cheesepencil 2020-04-20 19:04

I had more trouble getting past the title screen than the first few actual levels of the game lol

wongkongphooey 2020-04-20 19:21

Excellent game, very very clever to have to figure out the intro puzzle in order to play, which teaches the main concept before starting. Well done!

cryptomnesic 2020-04-20 19:45

Love that this is somehow at the very top of the DANGER filter on front page right now

binaryprinciple 2020-04-20 19:54

Nice idea of setting up the tutorial that way.

bredian 2020-04-20 19:56

Very innovative approach for familiar puzzle and nice tutorial. Great visuals. But I think the solutions for 2nd and 3rd level are too simple. Just one random click could bring the victory on these levels.

astrolabe 2020-04-20 22:13

Wow, I'm impressed, that's incredible! The way the tutorial works, the music, the aniamtions, the gameplay... I love it!

chickencastle 2020-04-21 03:27

Such an impressive idea and execution. I did get stuck at one point not knowing how to get to the bear inside the bushes. However its really nicely polished, and such a great concept.

dreamcastgh0st 2020-04-21 04:39

Honestly, nice overall job all around. Not exactly my usual type of game, but very well executed, and there's some good fun to be had here. Must be what I imagine taking care of a real baby is like, haha. Although the last level is a little unusual, I've always liked games that force you to break their own mechanics. It's really rewarding to the clever players who already discovered such a bug (sadly, not including me this time :P) and a good way to make it feel less like a game and more like an actual challenge you are facing with a solution not crafted by someone on the other side of the screen (even though it was.) My biggest complaint is that the title screen intro which shows you the mechanics is actually tougher than most of the levels, just because so many of the levels are pretty easy to mostly circumvent. Great job, and I hope to see more good games in the future!

aeveis 2020-04-21 06:53

Very nice! Interesting properties of the tiles that start to work its way into the level design, especially the last level. Could see things like moving platforms between tiles or transporting other things between tiles as well. Good job!

verttixpertti 2020-04-21 07:49

Fun puzzle game, except for the part where the baby got stuck inside a wall.

omni 2020-04-21 07:52

Really fun and addicting game. Loved the gameplay, art and sound. Awesome work! :)

c-ryder 2020-04-21 08:22

Really fun to play. I like how the puzzle mechanic, reminds me of the old picture puzzles I used to buy. Good job!

stevenjmiller 2020-04-21 08:56

Very fun game, I especially enjoyed the last level.

alexvoxel 2020-04-21 12:20

Very cool mechanics and nice feel, loved the music and the graphics in particular

128bit 2020-04-21 13:07

Porbably the best game ive ever saw in my life. Everything is perfect. Please keep it up!

loig 2020-04-21 13:46

Wonderful idea! (And very beautiful graphics also)

keln 2020-04-21 13:54

I loved the simplicity of the puzzles and the mood.

OH, and fuck that "start play" button hahahahahha

2020-04-21 15:43

Definitely the best game of the jam that I've seen so far.

megamasterx 2020-04-21 16:42

This is GENUINELY creative! I had a blast managing everything. Solid entry!

nitero 2020-04-21 17:45

We need more! That last one was especially genius

iarwain 2020-04-21 18:02

Excellent idea and execution, congrats! (I'm ashamed to admit it took me a while to realize the game was actually embedded in the web page...)

stephan-steinbach 2020-04-21 18:12

This was great! Thanks for sharing! I love that the baby tumbles between the panels, once I figured that out it really clicked for me as a puzzle game.

david-bohan 2020-04-21 18:42

Excellent work in every single category. Very impressed. A simple concept with an amazingly fresh idea. Good work!

gama-11 2020-04-21 21:37

Extremely polished little puzzler. The only issue I noticed is the sound glitching out when I got one of the red guys stuck in a wall. Luckily you didn't disable the HaxeFlixel's built-in sound tray / controls. :)

I just hope this isn't based on real-life events!

sid-fish-games 2020-04-21 21:46

This is brilliant, it actually took me a little while to work out how to even get into the game (a little embarrassed). One of the few games that I have added to my collection with the intention of playing much more when I get time. Thanks for this submission :)

maggardjosh 2020-04-22 02:51

This is great! Loved the mechanic, the art, and the music. Well done! Only real complaint is the baby can get stuck in the ground when moving tiles. At the very least would have liked a way to restart the puzzles. Overall great job!

kiln 2020-04-22 08:21

I hate slider puzzles, but that doesn't mean I don't like this game. It's very cute, aesthetically pleasing, and an overall nice concept. I did get stuck when the baby crawled into the pit w/ the guns and there's no reset button so that was that, but overall it was a fun game.

sludgekey 2020-04-22 17:25

I really love this! I love the core concept. Like lemmings meets sliding puzzles and it works so well. Awesome job!

necromic 2020-04-22 18:36

Reaaaaally solid entry. One of the best I've seen so far. Great concept, really well shipped. Few levels but well thought out, love that final level. Awesome job.

leafthief 2020-04-22 19:05

Awesome job :two_hearts:

colinbellino 2020-04-22 21:16

Wow, this concept is so good! The art is cute and well done, the audio was nice too. Well played.

celia14 2020-04-23 01:48

I love slider puzzles so I had to try this! Really fun and cute concept, nice work.

omiya-games 2020-04-23 02:11

Oh, no...

tumbleBabyBug.gif

Edit: in hindsight, I'm still keeping them alive, so there's that?

jrap 2020-04-23 03:32

Absolutely love this, I am DREADFUL at these slider puzzles but i learned a thing or two about how they work through this haha, especially love the baby sprite and color choices throughout

omiya-games 2020-04-23 06:48

Alright, real feedback time. I thought it was pretty cool game. Requiring timing to slide each piece is a really cool addition to a well-trodden genre. Presentation is spot on, as always.

On criticism side of things, I noticed the game was very small on my retina screen. I dunno if Haxe provides screen resizing, but such a feature would be appreciated. Maybe it's just me, but I found...*removing* the baby to be more fun that I think was intended. It's quite easy to soft-lock the game with the last puzzle, as the GIF above demonstrates. I wonder if either it might be a good idea to just give the win to the player if the GIF happens, or at least provide a restart button (tapping R didn't seem to do anything). lastly, I'm not sure how I replicated it, but the cannons sound effects at one point started rapid firing and seemingly never stopping until I moved the tile with said cannons. It was...quite annoying.

erehuc 2020-04-23 10:53

Amazing idea, i love how element can go through the level ( like canon ball throught all level or baby falling ) game mechanism is interresting, little audio and nice sfx. Block at a level where the doll is block by 4 wall, don't understand what i'm supposed to do or if it a bug. Nice concept, nice art, nice sound !

2020-04-23 12:27

Lovely graphics, great game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/POu9WBNgI08

cjgammon 2020-04-23 13:17

this game is just great, lots of fun. i couldn't figure out the one where the bear was inside a square. great job.

franklins-ghost 2020-04-23 13:51

Such a great entry and use of the theme. Took me a bit to figure out the moving parts and organising the title screen but was an interesting way to learn how the movement and game works. Had an issue where the game screen was small on my computer but besides that I really enjoyed it.

larzan 2020-04-23 14:41

Great job, i love the concept, i love it when ppl come up with creative new game concepts, this is one of them (at least new to me ;p )

sodap 2020-04-23 16:47

Incredible job, great concept, great execution, fits the theme perfectly! One of the best I've seen if not the best.

butzbo 2020-04-23 18:35

I have to admit I almost gave up on the Title Screen, but great thing I didn't! (First I had solved the word, but ba-by was on the wrong side so I thought it wasn't working for a second).

Guiding the baby through the different kinds of panels makes for great and flexible gameplay! This one is easily among my favourites as it develops from the theme into these unique mechanics.

lasagnaandroid 2020-04-23 18:38

Great game, great concept! It was nicely difficult and had lots of options, I think it's great and super clever. I found a bug that, if you somehow get those floating blocks stuck on a tile they will make a really annoying looped sound, but besides that it was really cool!

dani-desa 2020-04-23 19:54

Not really my type of game but I have love playing it. The graphics and animations are really cool and the music perfectly fits the theme. I have liked the way you introduced the player to the gameplay. Some level are very easy to solve some very hard in my opinion: I got stuck at the firing cannons twice and had to restart again.. :) Overall really good job! I am following you on itch.io now, I saw you did the ludum dare keynote too! All the best man!

pietro-ferrantelli 2020-04-23 20:18

Wow what a perfect entry, i'm especially amazed because it is compo ! Not a huge suprise coming from you, I love your jam games but this one might be one of my favorite ! Perfect score for a perfect and creative work

rudenko 2020-04-23 23:04

Amazing game, i love this puzzles, and idea overall, great execution! Graphics and audio works together perfectly!

gal-afik 2020-04-24 13:22

@omiya-games Same issue over here. If the block locks in place as the baby falls from above it, it will lock the baby in place with the block. I assumed that was the solution to this level, but...

tumblebaby.PNG

brusi 2020-04-24 18:29

Same issue as comment above. Except for that, great game, cool concept, and fits the theme prefectly!

aurel300 2020-04-25 00:12

Very nicely polished, great graphics, nice audio work. I really hate this type of puzzle, so the title screen was harder than the rest of the game T_T I was just commenting on [Tiny Fragments](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/tiny-fragments) that room swapping seems very common in Ludum Dare entries!

Interesting mechanics all around, some could use a bit more gentle introduction. The last level for instance made me stop for a second. I also felt the enemies and cannons didn't play much of a role.

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 06:21

One of my favorite games, but all it needs is a pause menu.

blubberquark 2020-04-25 10:57

I really like the puzzle design, but I always got stuck here:Screenshot_2020-04-25 Tumble Baby by 01010111.png

wikers 2020-04-25 13:29

Vey nice job, i sopuse you know it but Captura.PNG There are another game with the same concept https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/tiny-fragments

I dont care about, both are a very nice job

cosmiccrystalgames 2020-04-25 15:36

Really innovative and cool game! Excellent use of theme, probably one of the best I've played so far. I found the difficulty to be a little punishing but maybe I just don't have a big enough brain for these types of puzzles! It gets difficult to manage sliding the pieces while the bebe is walking. But honestly I think that is just a personal preference thing.

Great graphics and audio that fit well. Really a solid entry all around, you be very proud of this one :)

ruthiepee 2020-04-25 15:56

I adore Tumble Baby!! Slider puzzles aren't normally my thing but this game totally redefines that 'genre' (if you can call it that). It definitely gets my heart rate going when I haveto quickly slide a bunch of tiles so the baby won't fall onto the spikes. I think the game's speed is well balanced: pretty hard but not impossibly hard, and after a few tries (RIP baby) you eventually figure it out and quickly solve it. However I still haven't figured out the square-block level because I'm an impatient dumdum. Is it bad that I love the baby death sound effect?

szieberth-adam 2020-04-26 01:15

A lovely entry by the keynote author. :)

foolmoron 2020-04-26 18:37

Love everything about it! The tiny resolution, the real life inspiration, the tutorial title screen (even though I got stuck trying to make the BABY part towards the right). Initially I didn't like the sharp/blatant pixel art as much as your other games either, but it does add to the cohesive feel of a little toy.

I also really like the actiony feel of it, where you can do a lot of interesting moves if you time things precisely. It feels a lot less like a puzzle in that sense. But that also makes the baby feel either too fast, when you're stressed, or too slow, when you just want them to crawl to the next block already. You can click off the game to pause it which can help make things less frustrating, so maybe having an official pause/slow/fast option would help.

Levels were lacking but that's understood based on what little time you had. I locked the game up trying to warp the baby inside the square though, so a restart button would've helped.

Also the most genius thing ever is being able to crawl over spikes. Total subversion of game literacy that makes total sense physically.

voidsay 2020-04-26 23:06

The twist to use a glitch to solve the last puzzle was genius!

Tho I had a problem starting the game at first. Turns out the bottom two blocks needed to be on the left.

fancypants 2020-04-27 20:17

Nice concept, interesting puzzles.

peterfiftyfour 2020-04-28 08:23

Really cute music and visuals! This is a very cohesive experience, the transitions are great and everything realy goes together well. Nice job! Would like to see more levels and elements added in!

adhesion 2020-04-28 23:55

Wow! Amazing concept, and super fun despite the fact that I'm terrible at these block pushing puzzles :P Visuals and music are great - really loved the sound design too. Solid level design with nice gradual introduction of mechanics, though some levels seemed a bit easier than expected (maybe an unexpected solution?) The title screen is neat but I did get stuck for a bit with "baby" in the bottom right instead of left, so it would be nice if that was a valid solution too. I also got stuck inside geometry inside the last level, which was a bit frustrating since (AFAIK) there's no reset button so I had to restart the whole game. Figured it out on my next try though. Would love to see more of this. Awesome work!

eduardo-yukio 2020-04-29 08:25

Awesome concept! It was very well executed! I liked how you introduced us to the core mechanic on the first level, without having any hazard. I love tutorials that teach you gradually through experience! Very nice art and sound! I just found it strange that the baby was able to walk through the spikes though haha. And the difficulty ramped up very quickly, I couldn't manage to beat the level where the bear was at the middle, it was much harder than the previous ones.

dollarone 2020-05-06 15:17

Love this. Simple and elegant. Platforming but not really.

Enjoyed the different solutions and the options available to you. Music and art is spot on. If anything I just want more levels :)

Fantastic little entry.

pengda 2020-05-07 15:59

Lark20200507-235655.png

哈哈,很有趣

jmad 2020-05-10 09:55

A favorite. Concept is fantastic, everything very minimalistic and serving the mood. Great work!

alexrose 2020-05-12 20:03

I TOO am in the "my baby got stuck in the last tile and there was no restart button" crew but my second playthrough took like 40 seconds. I spent a good amount of time on the title screen remembering how to do these puzzles lol but after that I was like.. oh okay this is fine. This is a cool concept and well executed in terms of its mechanics. I had this idea in a dream once but mine was more like "you are controlling a character too" and now that I played this I realise that would be WAY TOO MUCH STUFF to try and pay attention to.

I think if you'd had an extra day to put into this, it would've gone from something neat to something spectacular, but such is ludum dare. Nice nonetheless.
