I like the simple core puzzle mechanic!

I like the simple core puzzle mechanic!
I really love this! I love the core concept. Like lemmings meets sliding puzzles and it works so well. Awesome job!
Can't find the link to the game :(. Maybe you can still upload it.
Hahahahaha. Not at all what I expected from the thumbnail. I think it's great and fresh and different. I'm not sure if this is innovation or madness but I'll just vote for a big fat possitive innovation. After about 3 minutes of throwing meat at it and balancing it correctly I was like. Wait what's on the back. I felt really smart when I found the battery. I removed it and waited anticipatingly.... Good job for doing something way different!
I like the fact that it changes when you feed it. Gives me tamagotchi vibes in a way. Could use an ending.
Nice plottwist :D good way of mixing in some different mechanics and using the core! I really like how it had enough variety for a game you made in a weekend!
I always get stressed out by platformers but I feel like this one found a good balance of exploration/zen/stress and not too many jumps I really hated. I actually finished it in one go. I expected to fail and not being sure I would try again. Nice job. Oh and I love the tree and the sound it makes :D!ā
Had a hard time beating it. At the start of the game I did land nicely on the table but I didn't know where to go yet. After landing on the floor again I noticed him up there. But at that point I just couldn't help to make the jump again. Still loved the look and feel. Nice art and nice audio!
Nice clicker game! Great audio as well. Only thing I had a bit of a struggle with was that I skipped some texts because of the fact that I was clicking so enthousiasticly. All in all good job.
I really liked the level parts you could shoot through but not fly through!
Thanks for the nice comments and good feedback! We are looking into tweaking some more of the game elements and making it more challenging. The score system should be more transparant and way more challenging. We think the minor tweaks will polish the gameplay part a bit more.
" Iād love to have some of the backend info that you mention be exposed!" @microchasm I will do some future posts about the genetics and some graphs we used for fertility and health and such. @orion-five made some really awesome systems which I could play around with and tweak.
@blue-pin-studio yeah the faction based stats are currently in there but are not very transparant yet. Their unique features is already in their motto's but not yet too clear for the player. Wincestor would have higher influence in their genes(we had chance of succes of matching depend on that but that's not yet in) Salestor would have knowledge in their genes (being able to more clearly see succes rates) Sapwood has higher fertility in their genes This one is actually in the game! Krankhaus has better health in their genes this one is also already in the game. Matching with these houses gives you a chance to also get better genes (or worse depending on the matches) We might continue with that a little further in another jam we might do ourselves!
@pleyad Thank you! A friend who couldn't join the jam likes it as well and is currently trying to put together a nice soundtrack for it. We had audio on the list, but you know how it is, the list is long and the weekend is short. We have considered widows and same sex coupling but simplified for now. We figured medieval times were not so open minded about these things. Maybe in the future we might end up using that thought though. Anyway thanks a lot for playing!
@euler-moises We don't want to imply that there are no bastards. But the Nobles sure want to imply that there aren't any. So they are not officially accepted into the family tree! (Also was a feature we wanted to brainstorm more about but... you know... time and all). Thanks for playing!
@joh We are considering assasinations, natural disasters and the plague. But that's quite a bit of extra work so it might take a while and another game jam for us to work on those ideas.
Your early deaths are most likely characters with bad health genes. You can actually select lines that get older because those probably have better genes to mix! Like @orion-five said Thanks for your thorough thoughts!
@mika-la-grand teens marrying elderly is mostly a power move. They probably don't end up sharing the bed. But for more influence and such it can be a good idea. It was not unseen back in the days. We didn't add the succes/fail rate with the marriages yet but that would have caused those match ups to fail more often then succeed (would be a nice achievement or something in that case ;) ) Incest was one of the first subjects we talked about as well but we had to simplify and not tackle subjects like that lightly. If we would implement it we wanted to do it right. Give the genes in those branches mutations and possible negative alleles so they get family diseases and such. That is a lot of work (I would love to do some day). Music I agree. A friend is actually doing some post jam soundtrack composing. We were discussing pruning the tree and letting people die left and right once the tree grows a lot. Plague etc. But that's for later versions. The mouse cursor is a bit of a pity... and might be patched!
Thanks for the thorough feedback! Hope these insights in our progress are interesting :D . Come back to it later (you can follow it on itch.io) and you might see some interesting patches.
@tom-robson Thank you for your kind words! We will look into some future updates and a possible follow-up, either in the form of another game jam for us 2 or to look into turning this into an actual project (once our current projects are completed). If you follow us on itch.io you will be informed of future updates. I'm doing some patching as we speak ;)
@infinite Thank you for your vote! That blocking interface can be moved but I understand that you would expect the UI to be there and not be part of a thing you would have to drag. Maybe in a future version this will be altered.
I was looking at a general graphic for a baby but that would take away from the whole genetics part. So then my mind raced to a baby face with genetics and quickly realised I would have to make three times as much art, and I already didn't have a lot of sleep :P. I have some ideas for that so I'm sure I will patch that in the future.
Thanks for playing!
@abdurrahman-khallouf Thanks for playing it yourself as well! Thanks @meme-310 for refering! Sometimes you can be a bit unlucky but genes do play a big part. Each house has their own genes. We will add their motto's in the game today so you can see more easily what kind of playstyle they might have. Matching them with the other houses will diversify the genes in that direction too. (1 allel from the father 1 from the mother) So AA father and aa mother would become Aa which in our case stands for fertility. With fertility it's the more capital letters the more fertile a character is. So the child would have Aa. If that child matches with another Aa their kids can have all kinds of variations: AA aa Aa aA. BB is also a factor in fertility so these genetics combined can give various results. And that's just fertility! There are quite a bunch of genetical factors.
The we forget to marry them is a funny thing I'm sure actually happens in the real world too :P.
We have some more ideas on how to improve gameplay and gamify it more. I'm going to have a call with @orion-five in a bit to see which aspects we want to prioritize in a next patch.
If you'll follow us on itch.io you will be notified of the patch! I would love to hear if the next patch will improve gameplay for you.
@nolanfa thank you for playing. The last update we did made it me focused on scoring. We also balanced the rate of bachelor's from other houses but that does indeed make you focus more on age and sex. I think we can solve that part with our planned success and fail rate when matching depending on a couple of aspects like influence and age difference. That will probably take done time to implement. Thanks for testing and your thorough feedback.
@thibaud-ligneul Thank you so much for your kind words! Some early mock-ups included a stats menu when you clicked on an individual. Maybe we will add that in a later patch some time! Would be fun to iterate a bit more.
You can follow it on itch.io to see if and when we update it.
I really enjoyed the graphics! It could be more difficult but that didn't distract me from finishing the game and enjoying the good parts. Nice job.
After a couple of wood chopping and deer hunting it got dark real fast.... I'm sorry Emily for killing you with the rifle!! And I'm sorry for then killing you with the axe! Love the sound effects by the way. Nice job
I'm really bad at platformers but it started off great. The jumps felt fair. I did end up meeting my arch nemesis jumps I get stressed about though but I do see that for people who love platformers this is a true gem! Nice job.
I tried to avoid the first couple of grass sprites :'). Quickly realised my mistake when they caused me to jump in the real spikes. I had the lovely vibe of being offline and playing the dino jump game but then with some more content. Really nice vibes.
Very awesome game. Does that neat little character have a name? Love his voice and his style :D
Really love the atmosphere!
Loved the tossing of food. I am horribly at platformers but this sure was fun! I also loved the resapwn animation (yeah I saw that one a lot). Nice job
Neat idea. Lovely small game. Really dig the art! Would have enjoyed being able to skip the intro text on my second try.
Had a real nice score of 1:something but didn't get to see it at the end like a later attempt. I love the simplicity and the most core fundamental way of doing a stealth game. Good job!
Great graphics and atmosphere!
Really like the fact that your children helped you make it! I think it's a nice litle cute game.
At first I wasn't sure if my actions had worked or not. But I eventually noticed with the experience bar that it did. Maybe some extra indicator would have been helpful. I like the simplicity of it and it does cover a bigger topic within the theme. Nice job on that!
I was a bit lost at times with when to jump on the back of the green frog but it did give that extra layer of gameplay that I enjoyed. Jumping over fires sometimes got me on edge a bit (I'm not a big platformer gamer). But I do think it all works quite well together :D! Nicely done. Cool concept.
Thanks everyone for the Feedback! Great insights into issues (that will appear in a jam ;) ) Eventually you get blind for your own product without being able to playtest with people outside. I will do a quick patch to solve the following minor issues to make it playable:
Arrow indicator towards portal @ayxs
controls on screen @codehacher123
nerf eyeballs @error-ff
COVER IMAGE on Ludum Dare!! @zest-is-best
Instructions can be found in game if you press the i in the right top corner but it should also be on screen @zest-is-best Will be on screen too!
Collision with rocks (will try to tweak it a bit. It seems to be a bit hard with the player controller) @error-ff
Invulnerable dash + cooldown @error-ff
Create new save game / new loop (we actually made it save every time you die so you get stuck in the first loop you ever start. If that breaks the game however than it's a very sad story... I will create a new loop option if I can fix it fast and easy) @error-ff
Sometimes people seem to not be able to find the last spawner or the portal because a wall seems to have spawned at the same location. I will have to double check why this happens and fix it. @error-ff
Thanks again everyone for playing and for the awesome feedback. It really helps a lot!
The game has been patched!
@dotsquare oh no where did graphics rating go :S :( I was sure it was selected... Maybe something didn't save. It can't be changed anymore I assume...
Thanks a lot @dotsquare ! We had a lot of fun making it all!
Thanks for playing @dmitry-kaidash ! The rocks haven't become my friends either. Maybe in a future update I will give them some more time and love (they deserve it).
@caeonosphere thanks for playing. The eyeballs were added in the last 20 minutes before the deadline. I'm glad they actually work as enemies. Didn't get to af them as your own yet. Might do an after jam patch/version with more creatures and getting all as your own as well. That and new environment when you go through the portal would help a lot with the progression you mentioned. Thanks for the feedback!
@harksa I'm not sure what happened with the opting out. I'm pretty sure we did check all the boxes. We are pretty happy with the graphics and audio so it's a bit of a bummer. Thanks for playing and the positivity!
@joh Thanks for playing. Some explanation of how to defeat enemies and spawners might have helped in hindsight. Anyway glad you liked it!
@abdurrahman-khallouf Hey! Thanks for hopping by and checking out our game. We had a lot of fun making this game but it sure has some rough edges. Never the less happy with the result. I did the art for Noble and did the programming for this game (I'm normally an artist). Maybe see you again next Ludum dare! :)
@future-labs-unlimited Thank you! Cool that we hooked you with our weird graphics :D.
The spawners are selected randomly at the moment so the difficulty curve is a bit random at the moment (game jam style...). Might get patched if we do some more after jam patches.
Thanks again for playing!
@bentebent Thanks for playing! Good solid feedback and if we ever do another small jam for some extra patches we really want to look at the agency and difficulty curve to make it more of an experience. Thanks again and I enjoyed your game as well ;)
@kaafirookie thanks! Yeah the creatures can spawn randomly at the moment so introducing them gradually and not random would help in understanding what the objective currently is. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
@garet We regret whatever happened to the opting out :(. Our main focus was the ones that we accidentally opted out of. I must have interpreted it the wrong way around (that's what hectic game dev and 10 minutes before deadline stuff does to your brain). Good one to focus extra on next time we join :D Figuring stuff out was way too much for a new player and we could have focussed more on that. Thanks for the feedback and for playing!
@codertrevor Eyeball characters were added in the last 20 minutes of the jam, so I'm happy they ended up in there but yeah not adding them for the player is a lot of sad frustration for the players who reach that point. I'm glad all the weirdness came across ;) . Your high score is quite a nice one too :D! Thanks for playing!
@jakobthequizguy glad you liked it? Haha it's a weird little game and for a game jam it works :D . Thanks for playing and for commenting!
@meatball Our audio artist and graphical artists who went rogue and recorded the effects with their vocals were going absolutely bananas. Was a joy to add the sounds when I received them. We did struggle quite a bit with how to do something else with the loop so I'm also very happy with the weird little egg cycle. Like a weird version of the phoenix, without all the majestic charm :') . Thanks for playing!
@snowinn Tutorial is a big one to reserve proper time for with the next jam. We just wanted to add more stuff (that people wouldn't see because they wouldn't understand the game ;') ). I'm glad so many of you did find out what you could and should actually do! Good job on all of you players. Thanks for going through the rough and gritty start and thanks for playing :D!
@jenny-bourke Our artist Rens can visually show what we all desire! Enjoy those little things. (I'm going to check out your game after reacting to all these lovely commenters. Your game sounds interesting!) Thanks for playing/rolling!
@guimoliveira Thanks! Next time we will include those in the voting :')
@jam373 Cheers! The weird art vibe is something our artist Rens is the King of! He toned it down at the start but we told him to go all out and he embraced it. We gazed at that lovely egg laying animation for too long.
It's cool to see that you see what we were sorting going for. It's still rough around the edges and more info surely would have helped. Thanks for going beyond that start.
Calling it polished is a compliment for sure.
@rialgar When a comment starts with Disgusting and immediatly interpret it as a compliment. The focus was planned to move towards eggs more when you were playing but that emphasis is not tweaked polished and balanced. It ended up being more about the experience you described (the player doesn't get informed though). Glad you had fun! Thanks for playing.
I like the concept. It reminds me a bit of Papers Please (which I loved!).
I really like the concept and I really want to like the game. I think the thing from stopping me really liking the gameplay is the hectic tempo it plays in. I do understand that you have a lot of cool different mechanics in there. Introducing those one at a time would probably have been a bit much for the jam. All in all I think this game would work great would another polish. Cool ;) direction!
I really liked the mood. The simplistic gameplay worked really well. I had a bit of a hard time with the reset/loop where I couldn't tell what the bigger goal was yet. All in all though I liked the direction. Good job!
Cool stuff. Thanks for linking it in my comment! I thought the level select was a clever idea. I enjoyed the levels and the fast forward was something I was about to want to comment when I figured it was implemented. Nicely polished!
These kind of games is what I love about game jams. They really explore a fundamental thing and completely focus and rely on that. This is super cool in it's simple form. Also really think it's funny how you made the video into the gif for the hamster.
I kept on playing so it did invite the player to keep trying different things. I really liked that. The not doing the same thing is awesome. I almost quite with the waiting part. But checked the playthrough and continued. Having to do level 16 a couple of times I did end up quitting though. But all round cool game :D
I wasn't expecting a hack and slash game during this jam so that's cool. It's a great framework to continue on! The theme was a bit harder to find for me but it felt pretty smooth! Great job!
That was awesome. Different and that's what I think Game Jams are for! I love the story of Sisyphus and him being a dung beetle seems pretty close already! Very clever! I would have loved to play more of it and I did struggle a bit at the start with the green bar (either I am motorically not capable or the hitbox is different then I would expected) But all in all it's a great jam entry! If all games were this lovely and wacky I would probably be playing until the next ludum dare!
I like the idea. It reminds me of old games where you had to lay a train track before a train. It's cool that you get bonus points for using all the tiles (makes it more of a puzzle). I couldn't find how you would delete a tile which frustrated me a bit at times. All in all a nice game that fits the theme well!
@cdkml Thanks! Glad you like it.
@baconn00 Thank you for playing! Glad you liked it. I'm uploading a new patch right now. Even more scary enemies.
@felixmreeve Thanks for the thorough feedback! We are updating the game to have an up to date control scheme in the menu. The mine will also be added to the controls. Thanks for playing!
@bernard-bumblebutt Glad you liked it. The controls took quite a lot of time and there are still plenty of players who expect it to be a little different. The submarine can be in the top of the screen if you like. You still go down but a bit slower. It's actually a decent tactic. We wanted the player to be able to choose their playstyle regarding where the submarine would be (every now and then mines are dropped from the top as well so being in the top of your screen and locked would not work with the mines).
The obstacles are spawned with a random interval within a certain range so as an example: every 40 - 75 seconds / difficulty with as extra criteria the depth the player is. So some objects only spawn when you are at a certain depths.
Thanks for the feedback and playing!
@eugenik Thank you! Our audio artist hasn't made a lot of audio before so I'm sure he will love your feedback :D
@felixmreeve Thank you! I might do a patch where other controls and or inverted might be selected in the menu/game over screen.
@peterfiftyfour I don't know the game you referenced so I'll look it up! It is indeed with a faked 3D effect in 2D. Glad you liked it and thanks for playing!
You get sucked into the loop of the game! And it is unexpectectly dark.
"Yeeahaw!"
Works very well. Simple elegant game with a great look and feel.
