I love the hand-drawn art style and I'm a sucker for clicker games. The web-version was too big at first and I couldn't see some UI elements, I later noticed there was a fullscreen button and that made the game a lot more playable. Overall I think you did a great job and would love to see it expanded on!
The are style is amazing, maybe you could add some more soul types as you advance through the story? I think it would make it a bit mroe entertaining, or have the hunger go down faster to make it more intense. Just an idea, anyways great job!

The game is intendet to be played as an app on your smartphone, but we wanted to build it for as many platforms as possible. @rickzyyt Thanks for the feedback. We had the problem that the hunger went down too fast and we quiet didn't find the middle ground there.

When I first saw the intro screen, I thought I by mistake bought some game on steam and launch that instead, the level of polish on this is absolutely amazing, ready to ship. Also the sound work is great, did you edit your own recordings for the speech ? crazy strong entry
Maybe there needs to be a way to automate the clicking or maybe I didn't play long enough to see that in that case it has to come sooner.. That said, I love the art style, story and wish you good luck with the games future development ;)

I think the hunger bar is in reverse since a full bar indicates maximum hunger. You should instead fight to keep your hunger down, as low as possible :)
@tomeks Oh wow... Thank you for that uplifting feedback. Yes, we recorded and edited all of the sounds. @martintale Yes there is an auto-click feature. After the third story choice you unlock it :smile: Maybe you're right and it needs to come earlier, but it progresses with the story. @saeedprez You are absolutly right, that is 100% correct. The Hunger bar should eiter be renamed or move the other way.
drawings are fantastic. Would love some gameplay that's not clicker based, kind of dampered the rest of the experience/story. Overall though a good idea and technically polished
The lich sprite is really great! It reminded me of the art style of Chris Riddell, like his monster "the Gloamglozer". I didn't notice the hunger bar, I was only really aware of the story progression bar up top.
To be honest I'm not a huge fan of clicker gameplay, but still, good job!

You got me completely addicted. The art style, the graphics, the everything. An extraordinary game to say the least. The amount of content you've gotten in there is outstanding. One of the best games out there, could even pass for a finished commercial game. Does hurt your hand after a while though :)

This feels great, looks great, and sounds great. It's a nice take on the cookie clicker style, though I think the hunger needs to deplete faster (I never had it drop below 90%).
Great game, well polished and fun. Especially the voice acting :P As @filecorrupteddev mentioned, hunger didn't really have a purpose in the game. Other than that, great game!

I have some problems with the resolution, the screen dosn't fix the correct size. i love the art style, it's very nice, good job
the art is strong here. gets a bit tedious after a bit. I had a hard time correlating what was happening directly with the progress. Also it seemed like there was an upgrade point. I'm not sure if that worked or not, it wasn't immediately obvious. I think this has a lot of potential.
Amazing art and sound! The gameplay is also fun, but the automated clicker features could be visualised a bit better. I also really like the story decisions, really makes a run feel personal.

Was a bit confused at first that clicking the buildings/king caused the upgrade window to appear (though it was random, but later realized it appeared because I tried to click the things when they hovered over it).
@ytaha Yeah, we set ourselfs the goal to finish within 48 hrs. We wanted to see if we can pull that off and we are very happy with the result :smile:

Graphics are wow, very nice and animations play very well. The overall concept is interesting. The voice blends perfectly. It is easy to understand how to play and what every power up does. The down side is that the game felt a little short. Good job!

Clickergames are not really my type of game, but outside from the title screen that doesnt really adjust to different screen resolutions, it was a nice experience.
I loved the artwork and voice lines! I used an auto clicker from the start so I wouldn't break my mouse. I beat the game and upgraded all the structures. For anyone wondering, there's not additional story, the story progress just resets after filling it up after winning the game.
Another High effort project. If I were to make a suggestion as to what could improve on, it would be about how there is no replayability. Other clicker games don't hard cap you in leveling up certain areas. Sure, it kind of breaks the game, but at the same time, that's where the fun is. I feel as though if the team spend some time working on making the game more engaging to play at the end, it would be a near perfect entry, because as of now, if you get to the end, you never really need to play it again as you already seen it all.

@zeggamer @jusw85 Thanks for the Feedback. Yep that's right, in the end it doesn't scale great :smile: But there are 5 voice recorded endings and you unlock other buildings when you choose a different path. So there are some things you can find out by playing it again :wink:
Very well done! Nice stile, nice sounds. Maybe add something like powerups for resetting the game (like adventure capitalist).
Really liked the Lich graphic it reminded a bit of the anime Overlord. Also really loved the voice lines like "Fathers say it hard to raise a family" and such I got a very hardy chuckle out of those.
Fantastic entry, Great art and funny quips! the "Fathers say raising a family is hard, but its easy if they are buried close together" made me laugh. very juicy too! it did feel kind of short
I really like the art and sounds, some mechanics felt pretty useless though - like how the temple thing does 2 damage every second, not much point in a game that doesnt last long enough to warrant putting the souls in

Wonderful voice acting and hand drawn sprites! Feels really good and you can see the work that went into it. It's a shame to me its a clicker game since I'm so avidly opposed to them. Though the rate of progression and the choice making for it are really well done. Despite being a clicker, the atmosphere and the music have be drawn in and I think it may be the best I've played, well done.

I especially love the choice to combine clicker with branching narrative, it's something I've been meaning to try myself and it seems like really fruitful design space! As a small critique, it seems like the temple wasn't damaging the souls? At least I couldn't see the numbers go down every two seconds. Either way really excellent job.

Overall the game looks very good and the mood is right. Sound effects and music are spot on. It is nice that you have a moment to read the story and make different choices throughout the game plays. The only downside for me was the game mechanic itself, making the game kind of tedious to play. It just requires a lot of clicking and isn't challenging. The leveling system made it a bit better, but for me, it felt like I was just clicking as fast as possible to get to the next story bit. All by all, nice game guys!

The game looks amazing, and I really enjoyed the art style and animation. The sound adds a nice layer to the atmosphere. The main mehcanic wasn't the most engaging, however, and got a bit tedious. The levelling system was cool. The dialogue was well written, but the story did not really go anywhere. That said, really cool game!

I spam-clicked past the first two upgrades by accident. Clicked 1700 times before I figured out you can actually upgrade the buildings. That's when the game started to become fun! Probably worth a line at the top of this page so more people get to enjoy it.

Neat clicker game, I really like the hand drawn black and white art style and the available upgrades seem pretty good. The audio was good, but I didn't think the sound when you defeat an enemy fit all that well. I wish the upgrade numbers grew exponentially so it got really crazy with the damage numbers and enemy amount.
Unfortunately the damage over time temple seemed to stop working for me so I had to defeat everything by clicking myself. Other than that, great job!

Really good looking game. The sprite animations were really impressive. The WebGL build is set too big for the itch.io window. I had to scroll the window horizontally to get to the fullscreen button. In Player Settings you probably want to set the canvas to something like 960x540 so it displays nicely in the itch.io page and then people can click on the fullscreen button.

Very nice clicker, with some minor innovation, great job. Some comments: The screenshake when killing a soul is a bit too much, when choosing between the options after filling the story progress bar might be holding instead of just clicking (I clicked by accident a couple of times (when not noticing the top GUI in the web version, because I kept clicking), also after "finishing" the game the ritual thing stopped working and I needed to do manually all the work. Apart from that, relaxing creepy music, beautiful hand drawn art and compelling voice acting. Great job!

Such a fantastic game. I really loved the graphics and music. The gameplay was fun, and has inspired some ideas of my own little riff on a soul harvesting clicker.
I didn't notice that the story unlockables were themselves upgradable, so I went on for a while only upgrading my player.
I'm a little confused as to what my unlockables even did. The ritual thing did auto-damage I believe, but not sure what the purpose of the soul catchers and graveyard was for. Soul catcher's upgrade was seconds between soul move, but I don't know what soul move is. Graveyard increased max souls but I never noticed a cap on anything.
I would've liked to have seen a visual indicator of the souls I had gathered rather than just a number, especially with some kind of visual effect showing the souls being pulled into the collection.
I loved the voice over, that was a great touch that I've not seen anywhere else. Very humorous game. Obviously, from a gameplay perspective it's a little simplistic, but I don't mind that. I'm a big fan of clicker games so it wins on that point alone.
Very well done graphics, music and dialogue! It created a great atmosphere. My only criticism is that the game play is kind of shallow, but the story makes up for it!. I've never been a fan of clicker type games tho, they hurt my wrist after a bit.

This is so awesome! You guys did such a good job with the art and the audio. I'm impressed you got both of those aspects so fully-featured for the jam, and it really gives the game a high production value, even for a weekend project. I think the game feel is really nice too - the camera shake and click feedback are really good. This was really fun! The only thing I'd say is that it seems to kind of take too long to get the next story progression near the end - I had to just click for awhile before it happened. Also, there wasn't really any challenge to the game. Not a bad thing I suppose, I still wanted to see what happened, but it might have been interesting to incorporate some kind of a mechanic that made it progressively more difficult. I noticed my hunger meter seemed to be depleting quicker, but it still wasn't fast enough to really change anything. Overall though, this is a really impressive entry. Well done!

If a soul spawned to close to one one of the buildings it couldnt be clicked and it would try to upgrade the place instead. Also the structure that damaged souls every 2 seconds didnt seem to always work. Cool looking game nontheless

People, what exactly have all of you found in a clicker game? It's not even connected to the theme that much, you're not really keeping anything alive, especially your own sanity. Wow. Just... wow.
I've used to believe in humanity way more before I viewed this wall of unworthy praises.
As for providing constructive critic: dear authors, there is a plenty of clicker games on the market.
I believe you could think of something more creative and make somewhat original rather than go cheap. Alright?
The artstyle is pretty awesome, I love the idle animation of the lich, mainly. Using a more "sketchy" style of drawing at everything and making it work on the final version was pretty nice. The game mechanics though, were not so clear. I wish there was more information on what were the differences between the souls, so that I have more control on the ending. The game is a cool one overall, just felt that the cool parts weren't too explored to make it a great one.
I really love the sketchy hand drawn look to the character and animation. Sadly it didn't run very well on my computer, but I got to see it running better on my bfs laptop. My main critique would be it was very simple and didn't really for me, hit the brief 'keep it alive'.
Anon above seems a little upset. This is LD lol, nobody cares about what's "on the market" when they make these games, it's just about having fun and making something in a short amount of time. Yeah clicker games are mechanically simple, the art carries the experience, etc. but honestly that isn't a problem specific to this game; that's how the entire AAA industry works. Food for thought.
For the author: Sure I feel like I'm getting an RSI now but for an LD game it was pretty neat, the art looked great and as mentioned the gameplay is pretty lackluster and standard for a clicker game, but I still had fun.
I really liked the art, it was a nice change from what I have seen recently. The voice acting was also well done. As for the gameplay, I didn't really get it at first but later found that it followed the style of cookie clicker, with the upgrades and such. Simple but story kept me engaged. Good job!

@kp-cftsz I 100% agree with you :smile: We decided to go with a game genre that we otherwise would never have done and was WAY out of our comfort zone, because none of us realy plays clicker games. We just wanted to have fun with an unkown genre and see where it takes us. And that's what Game Jams are for us - interesting experiences and experimenting with different genres.
I'm not a really a fan of clickers but yours offers a lot of twists that I enjoy. Having upgrades that don't just increase the number per second but actually change up the gameplay a bit was refreshing. It's overall a well polished game!

Honestly, i enjoy play short, funny clicker game (I mean, look at my first game: even that is a clicker), and this is exactly that!!! Plus, it has some sort of story/mologue on top, and that's neat!!!

I think the way you ramp up the resource gathering is fantastically balanced. Did you guys actually playtest this or did you nail it first try? I think it's right in the middle between too forgiving and too grindy.
The audio (especially the lich's VA) was fantastic. I often see people throw on audio at the last minute as a sort of "oh shoot! sounds are a thing!" but it's clear you had a direction from the very beginning.
There was only one moment in the game that I was actually confused. After I got my first upgrade, I didn't really know how to access it (or that I could access it). I tried spam clicking on it, and I saw the confirmation bar fill slightly. Until the tutorial tip for holding the mouse click down appeared, I accessed my menus by rapidly mashing. Yeah... I'm not the brightest sometimes.
I would be interested to see what this game would look like with some colored-pencil textured colors, although I know that may take away a little bit from the hand-drawn aesthetic. I think it'd be worth a try!

A very unique idle clicker game, played for at least two hours, i really liked the graphics but not so much the musics. Just one thing: after i leveled up every thing and completed story progression, the game became a little boring. Would love more activities to do

I had a screen resolution issue on my laptop (16:9)where is was too big for my screen even when full-screened so couldn't see much of the game but what i could i liked. Art work was great but what really stood out to me was the lines you wrote for death haha really made the game that notch up and kept me hanging in there. *gonna give it ago on my android device later if i have any issues on that i will let ya know.
Gameplay was a little odd. I clicked so frantically that I skipped over one of the story choices. I guess that's what a "clicker" is though? I love the arts style though, and the animation. Was that a handdrawn character that was scanned and 2D rigged? Very nice!
First i thought, omg another clicker. Then i maxed out everything i wanted to keep playing :D
Clickers usually dont play this well! Nicely balanced, and a fun theme too. Well done! Voice acting is a huge plus too in my book.

I have to be frank, this seems... Cheap? For a game jam about keeping things alive, I find it odd that you can't actually lose this game. You lose your health completely and just... Sit there?
Anyhow, not a big fan. Clicker games are oversaturated as a genre, though I will give you credit that there's a branching upgrade system and it seems like what's there is relatively smooth-running.

The art lured me in. It's truly awesome. Loved it! And the music choice is also great. Lich's comments were a great bit of polishing, added a lot to the atmosphere.
Gameplay is just not for me, as I truly dislike clicker games (as I said, art lured me in and I thought it will make me stick around). I stuck around to see how the story ends even though I got bored by gameplay enormously - so that says only good things about your storytelling and, again, the art! :smile: I bet people who actually like clicker games will love this one.

Also, definitely not your fault that I didn't like the gameplay. You just happened to chose a genre that I don't like and than reeled me in with this awesome art of yours anyway.
After a while the story doesn't progress. The last choice was that a final soul would be sacrificed in order for "her" to come back but then nothing happened...?

I have a few issues with the webGL build but it seems the standalone version didn't have that. A great storytelling combined with captivating audio. Well done, a complex take on a simple principle !
Beautiful artwork, well organized thoughts and a lot of love went into this project :) Great submission, good fun, good clicker (even though these aren't usually my jam!). The upgrades were well planned and thought out though I didn't catch why my temple stopped doing damage over time (probably that big rock I added! :)).

Good job on the atmosphere and drawn art! Feedback is clear and the mechanics are very clear. It's a nice touch on the clicker game genre. Not sure it's a good idea to let the player continue playing after the story is completed as it creates expectations to have something more when there's nothing else to do. Good job delivering a complete experience!

I'm not sure if it was not implemented, or it's a bug but I couldn't interact with the crystal on top of soul cleaner after unlocking it.

Awesome art, sound and mood. Really polished and pleasant to play. Gameplay is good implementing usual clicker concepts but as any clicker gets monotonic quite quickly. The story line, decisions and voice acting helps to devirsify the gaming experience quite well though. Great job!

I didn't play to completion/failure unfortunately, since the screen shake was a bit much for me and I was getting a headache. Apart from that though, this is a really really polished game! I love all the squash/stretch on the souls (I think that's what they are) that are being eaten (either by me or the bloke in the middle of the screen, I wasn't sure which it was meant to be), I love how many layers of particle effects are in use, and the art style is really compelling. Nice work!

Checked out the game due to the amazing art style! The music and atmosphere are spot on and the voice acting really brings the game to a whole other level. What wasn't really doing it for me was the gameplay, however that's more of a personal preference as I'm not big on clicker games! Overall it looked and felt great!

Nice art, and I love the idea of a clicker for Ludum Dare. I would have liked to have slight pictch variations in the clicking sound every click so that its not the same sound every time. Also, something more crisp might be more satisfying, it was a little jarring after a while. Overall very cool and very well made.

I love clicker games and this one had really great art for it too! The voice-overs were so hilarious I played well after beating the game just to list to them. I did find it odd that the different areas were capped and that I wasn't able to get the game to play itself but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the game. Well Done!

I liked this game a lot, it really keeps you interested from start to finish. Great story, and simple yet effective and well polished mechanics.
Really entertaining voice lines mixed in with some surprisingly engaging idle-like gameplay. Also had issues with screensize but still managed to play to completion :)

Love the graphics and audio! This is a fun clicker game with some funny dialogue. It seems like running out of hunger should do something - maybe when the bar is empty it could start draining points? Overall it is a very polished and entertaining game.
Great artstyle! I feel like I've seen this style before but can't remember where. I think a steeper progression curve and more upgrades would have helped to feel even more powerful. I was kinda hoping for more crazy numbers and carnage in good old clicker fashion. But thanks to the awesome voiceover I still felt compelled to play until everything was maxed out :)
I unlocked everything and I've beaten the game twice. I dominated the world! Love the visuals and the sound over all. When I first opened your game I was like"ohh great, a clicker, sight, my give it a go since I already opened it". I spend like good 20 to 30 minutes clicking. My right arm is so sour it hurts to even write down this comment so I'll speed up. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I have only one question, what Hunger meter does? I let it run out twice out of curiosity and nothing really happened, except for a new voice line.
Souls, the only thing more delicious than cookies. Well executed and appreciated the use of story elements to drive upgrades and evolution of the environment. Smooth audio. Loved it!

Loved the art style and music and sfx. Especially the animations, they made everything come to life. Pretty interesting concept helping out a lich, but didn't really get the setting or the goal, and the narrative was just confusing but sounded pretty I guess :sweat_smile: Also I wish I knew how my choices affected the game. Don't know about the theme adherence - what am I keeping alive? That said, I was quickly addicted to harvesting souls, and didn't stop until I upgraded everything to max :joy: Great game though, good job :smile:
Had to donwload it, cause it dont show everything in the web version. Great art, music and sounds. Usually I dont enjoy clickers, but this was a great surprise, had lot of fun. And amazing writing and voice acting. Congrats, anazing game!
My fingers are now sore. I upgraded everything I could to the max and think it was probably one of the biggest click-baiting story games I've witnessed. The only issue I have is accidentally skipping the story from over-clicking. Letting the hunger get empty doesn't seem to do anything, and you don't lose? Great voice over and graphics/juice. Well done on such a great release.

Great game. Really enjoyed playing it. Only negative for me was that it reached max quite fast and it lost a bit of "taste". Visuals are nice as well and the audio is very good too

Art and voice acting made this really nice to play. I like that there are several endings and no prestige, I prefer finite games rather than endless ones, so this satisfied me. I refreshed the page to go through 3 endings, just to see some differences, and just one felt a bit unsatisfying, otherwise, very nice story telling. Some upgrades are less useful than others, so I felt some paths led to an easier progress, something you might want to address post ludum dare. Well done!

The most important thing on idle games is balance, and surprisingly the game is balanced perfectly. I've played until the ritual finished and all of the upgrades to max, the game is addicting! The visuals, sounds, music and voice acting are made very well. Simple mechanics but addicting, such a cool game!
I love clicker, and this is a good clicker idea. I really want to see a end game. I have a bug with crypt that doesnt anymore damage.
Simple but fun.... The hand drawn style and the over-the-top voice acting made the game atmosphere very unique and great!
Only criticism I have is that the ending was not marked clear enough... i.e. that there would be no new content after "Keep Playing"... Especially since I got the lover ending first.... and that paragraph ended with something like "There's only one more thing to do".....

Had some problem with the resolution playing on web. Itch.io has an option for letting the resolution to Auto-Detect size for Unity HTML projects, normally that solves my problems with resolution.
@danilo-freire There's a button to the bottom right - you might need to scroll a bit. That switches this to full screen, and it works there. Sorry for the hassle!
Really fun game, though my mouse hates me now
a few glitches (unless they're intended!) near the beginning, where it would tell me to "hold" when i was already in one of the upgrade UIs, but it seems pretty cool - fairly unique for a clicker, love the art and the storytelling :)

Unfortunately clicker games are not my thing but this one has its own charm.

Interesting clicker concept with storyline and wide range of upgrade options. Nice stylish graphics and sound. "Hold to upgrade" made well: appropriate, responsive, fast enough. More enemies and dynamics would be great ;)

Great game. Nice cookie clicker mechanics and the graphics are really nice. My finger now aches from clicking so much which I guess is a good and bad thing! Perhaps add a way to auto click on hover? You've sort of done this with the damage over time but would be nice to just watch the numbers go up with little effort

I also enjoyed the RPG-ish elements of upgades + multiple choice dialogues.
The lack of difficulty is usually a big downer for me, but for some reason I didn't get bored on this one.. must be the difficulty progression from the souls moving faster as the story progresses.
I learned a lot by observing your game and am looking forward to make use of the knowledge I got :)

Nice story and concept! Art and music is beautiful as well~! I liked how you added more interactive features to a text based game~ but the thing is, ti feels more like an interactive story which is fine if that's what you wanted to achieve but, imo, some more gameplay features would make it more engaging~ :sweat_smile: That aside, I still enjoyed the story and the atmosphere~! :thumbsup:
