LD45 — Start with nothing

Big Tomato by Jakob Willforss 2019-10-08T18:33:05Z

The pixel artwork of the plants unfolding and the tomatoes growing was really nice. I also thought the soundtrack of nothing but birdsong was really nice and peaceful, until the nefarious forces of big tomato turned up.

The yelling sound for driving people away could sound a bit weird when it was repeated a lot (for example, when I was wildly spamming X).

Overall a really fun game! Good concept executed very well

NoWastelandCreationIntended by kruemelkeksfan 2019-10-07T21:16:24Z

I like how much polish you put into the UI, I think the combination of complex UI with simple pixel graphics for the universe works really well, plus I like the font a lot.

Gameplay-wise: I had a real resource crunch on food, which kept shutting down my buildings, and I couldn't figure out how to alleviate that too much (even the farms kept shutting down, and I couldn't rely on exploration to find food regularly enough).

Exploration is a fun mechanic for an activity (and really good, because you can give randomized rewards that help the player build something more sustainable) but in the current version of the UI it is two clicks (one to end the day, another to acknowledge the popup) compared to one click for any other action -- maybe the message would be better moved out of the modal into some kind of scrolling status box so that it doesn't interrupt the flow as much?

NoWastelandCreationIntended by kruemelkeksfan 2019-10-08T07:14:08Z

@kruemelkeksfan ah OK, thanks for the explanations! That makes a lot of sense.

Veni, Vidi, Upgradici by Kornel 2019-10-08T20:03:08Z

Really nice, really polished! I think I ruined the difficulty curve for myself by not unlocking anything in the "enemy" upgrade tree until I'd finished unlocking everything else -- serves me right for cowardice, I guess. With a design hat on I guess I'd want there to be some way of making the player avoid that particular upgrade sequence, maybe by messing with how many dots you needed per upgrade and making the enemies drop bonus dots or affect dot spawn rate or whatever.

Fantastic job! The definition of "juice" :)

Slap the King by quin 2019-10-09T18:56:34Z

Fun! I got stuck inside tiles a couple of times (a gravestone and, weirdly, the river) but loading with Q makes it pretty easy to get back out :)

Melted into Existence by Zayah0_0 2019-10-08T20:44:36Z

There was a jump pretty early on I couldn't get past, but I liked the concept!

Space Cell by CiaranW 2019-10-08T20:41:11Z

One little graphics detail I liked was the asteroids obviously having the green shards they leave behind embedded in the stone they're made of. Great job!

Your choice by Tropos 2019-10-08T20:54:13Z

Really polished graphics, good job. Being able to jump unlimited times on a wall changes the platforming dynamics a lot, I like it!

Hungry Ghost by printablealice 2019-10-08T20:28:38Z

Took me a little while to figure out the controls! (left and right to move, S to inhale, D to jump, space to switch world).

Gloominate by Darth Mediocrity 2019-10-08T19:22:53Z

The audio is wonderful! Unfortunately I can't see any graphics output except a black screen. There are these messages in the browser console:

phaser.min.js:1 WebGL: INVALID_VALUE: texImage2D: width or height out of range 255[.WebGL-0x55cadea7e1d0]RENDER WARNING: texture bound to texture unit 0 is not renderable. It maybe non-power-of-2 and have incompatible texture filtering. index.html:1 WebGL: too many errors, no more errors will be reported to the console for this context

Biohazard-XX by hiro.e 2019-10-08T19:43:03Z

Nice graphics! I like the mechanic of having to stop every X steps in order to feel bad (because of the virus?). The groan of pain sound effect was a little much for me when repeated, though.

Island Survivor by TC5550 2019-10-08T20:20:45Z

This was really playable! I was hooked until I built a raft. One minor thing I did like was setting the background of your itch.io page to the sea texture used in-game -- that worked really well to make it feel like the ocean did stretch out in every direction :)

Venus Ascending by MisterKeefe 2019-10-08T20:30:42Z

@ciaranw thanks, I also end up with one mouth left desperately fending off the end of the wave... About swapping words, that's a great idea, I'll have a look once the jam is over! I think there's a lot going on onscreen sometimes and it's quite hard to keep track of which word you're halfway through, definitely.

Venus Ascending by MisterKeefe 2019-10-08T20:32:06Z

@sheepdog123 thanks for the feedback! "put more effort into sound" is definitely something I'm taking away from this jam, a typewriter noise is a great idea but more generally I think there's some great sound work out there from playing people's games, and a lot of cool tools out there for working with it that I've not used before

Nothin' To Muffin by SP3sheep 2019-10-07T21:06:02Z

I liked your graphics a lot, particularly using the particle effects to add a dynamic feel to the car sprites and when you picked stuff up. I think I got unlucky with recipes -- I picked up mudcake five times!

One thing I did notice was that controlling the chef character felt a bit "floaty", which is hard when you're trying to control their motions quite precisely in order to dodge obstacles / enemies or pick up the correct ingredients.

Mutant Balls by mytho123 2019-10-07T20:56:55Z

Interesting mechanic! I had some pretty severe framerate issues unfortunately, but I enjoyed how the combat worked.

7 Days [mouse only] by Chris Mulholland 2019-10-08T20:47:22Z

I really like the graphics on this one.

Cell by SirRed 2019-10-07T21:25:30Z

The character design is cool, I like how modular-looking the upgrades are (like "glue this bit onto yourself"). The level backgrounds were a bit placeholder and didn't really match the character aesthetics but hey, it's a jam :) .

I thought the sound design was really strong, I liked the effects and background music a lot

LD46 — Keep it alive

Something Magical by wasd 2020-04-22T10:02:55Z

Thanks so much for the detailed description of your dev process, it's really useful to read about how other people tackled creating their game. Fantastic entry, great job!

Keep The Beat Alive! by Willops 2020-04-23T07:53:29Z

Fantastic entry. I really enjoyed little graphical touches like the ghosting. I wasn't sure if bumping into enemies hurt me or them more? Really nice use of rhythm, it was a very fresh take on the rhythm game. I fell into a kind of move-shoot, move-move-shoot pattern after a while. Nice balance with moving restoring more health than shooting (but also throwing off your aim...)

Fine Flowers by PietPtr 2020-04-20T14:04:19Z

For one afternoon, this is pretty good! I liked the graphics too -- would happily play a whole game in this hand-drawn style.

Keep the princess... Alive by Vivoubos 2020-04-20T08:57:20Z

There were some fun glitches which I'm choosing to believe were intentional:

- Swordsmen run straight into pits if you're on the other side - Archers teleport behind you if you open the shield on top of them

I really enjoyed the art and sound for this game! They worked well together.

Keep the Garden Alive by gamepopper 2020-04-20T11:13:33Z

Nice graphics, the main guy looks like a brown marshmallow

Blood Oath by alexhonor 2020-04-23T21:08:09Z

Nice action, a liiittle too much juice with the hit stop but it was still really cool. Great graphics on the characters, maybe the environment could have used a bit more love, but that's a jam for you :)

Survivor by Hagge 2020-04-22T10:16:18Z

I thought the map was endless and procedural, so I just headed left! Got to $325 before I realised I had entered a featureless wasteland and was doomed to run out of fuel and oxygen without ever seeing scrap again.

I did have a couple of issues with collision detection on the rocks -- the player couldn't pass through some edges but could on some others, and the truck just rolled over everything.

Good entry!

Feed me! by Liam 2020-04-20T08:44:20Z

it was hard to tell the bucket and the tank apart! Overall quite fun though.

Keep Colours Alive by Ariel Curtido 2020-04-22T10:42:18Z

Hello! I seem to get stuck on the title screen for your game. There are no errors in the JavaScript console, the game just doesn't seem to start -- no Colourmen appear.

Keep Colours Alive by Ariel Curtido 2020-04-22T16:28:02Z

@ariel-curtido thanks! That got me started. It's fun -- pretty difficult though!

Hacking is Probably Not Like This by sayumeki 2020-04-20T07:46:01Z

Impressively polished given the time constraint! I'm fully onboard with pretty much any hacking game, so this has my approval. One thing that would have been nice is a way to cancel out of games in the practice server, since needing to win to exit is a bit annoying if you accidentally restart a game after finishing it.

Lich Clicker by Fictions 2020-04-20T08:36:24Z

The lich sprite is really great! It reminded me of the art style of Chris Riddell, like his monster "the Gloamglozer". I didn't notice the hunger bar, I was only really aware of the story progression bar up top.

To be honest I'm not a huge fan of clicker gameplay, but still, good job!

Commodore Commander by Alex_ADEdge 2020-04-22T11:52:36Z

This is awesome, it's like LOGO but with combat. There are a couple of glitches with the console -- you can delete the whole screen but then it doesn't notice when you open new commands -- but overall this is a really solid entry.

Commodore Commander by Alex_ADEdge 2020-04-22T16:06:59Z

One small gameplay comment -- don't know how easy this is to implement in your setup but could you let the tank travel multiple squares without stopping on each one?

Commodore Commander by Alex_ADEdge 2020-04-22T16:31:33Z

@alex-adedge ah yeah I got that, I meant more to smooth the movement out -- like if you type `MOVE 4` then the tank moves one square, four times as opposed to four squares, one time, if you see what I mean. In between moving each square it comes to a halt as opposed to rolling smoothly over multiple squares at once. It's a very minor thing :)

mutant cat life by tortov 2020-04-22T10:24:57Z

Hi, I think there's a JavaScript error which is stopping your game from being playable. In the console, it says:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input (game.js:559) (index):47 Uncaught ReferenceError: libris is not defined at (index):47

The result is that your game isn't running, so the screen is basically empty.

Looking at http://mecanosfera.net/ld46/assets/js/game.js it looks like the script comes to an abrupt halt halfway through, like some of it is missing?

ECHO by MartianSteve 2020-04-20T09:13:32Z

The audio on this is great, I put on my big headphones and just zoned out playing it. I had a great time but didn't beat level one, so maybe the problem is me.

Again, not sure if me, but I found it quite hard to get the echo to actually follow me -- past a certain point it always seemed to overshoot and get lost. This made it quite hard to feed it delicious sounds.

Final Flower: Petals of a Lost Age by Scott Steffes 2020-04-24T07:21:39Z

Excellent puzzle mechanic -- the flower gravity was really well-tuned so that you had precisely enough time to toss it, take a few actions, then panic about catching it again. I also really liked how nicely the "you're not holding a flower" audio blended with the general background music. Great job!

Peculiar Farming by Arcus 2020-04-19T20:55:11Z

I like the graphics, sort of like a collage-style of different textures.

YMGYPBVF: You Must Gather Your Party Before Venturing Forth by amkingTRP 2020-04-21T08:20:53Z

This is simple and elegant, and I liked the title shout-out to Baldur's Gate - that takes me back!

Seeds of Eru by Fersyvanderzee 2020-04-20T08:37:06Z

~~Loading got stuck around 50% for me, not sure if it's just my internet though!~~

(a refresh fixed it)

Seeds of Eru by Fersyvanderzee 2020-04-20T08:39:44Z

The S.A.R.A. model was fun, reminded me of the movie WALL-E :robot:

Life by pke1029 2020-04-20T12:20:37Z

This was really charming! I like the battle mode -- it made it more of a game. Nice introduction to the game of life.

Burning Out by Emil Sitell 2020-04-20T19:24:28Z

Cool game, I liked little touches like the footprints in the snow and the animation of the tree being cut. I wanted a bit more to do mechanically to maybe stabilise the situation, but then I'm an optimist.

Late Medieval Network Engineer by MisterKeefe 2020-04-20T07:36:42Z

@sayumeki thanks! the card borders were originally the same for all the cards, but then I added red for monsters, but that does make it more confusing, you're right. And nice idea on seeing integrity for any link! Once the jam's all over I'll try to make these tweaks

Late Medieval Network Engineer by MisterKeefe 2020-04-20T17:03:38Z

@saviqq thanks for the detailed feedback! I agree about sound, I just ran out of time - need to learn how to make it more quickly.

Late Medieval Network Engineer by MisterKeefe 2020-04-21T12:51:16Z

@tygrak it was a hard grind. we have it so much easier today

Late Medieval Network Engineer by MisterKeefe 2020-04-24T07:35:27Z

@scott-steffes Thanks! The travel was pretty heavily based on ["Forward" by Christopher Coyard](https://twotinydice.itch.io/forward) which I really recommend if you haven't come across it.

I designed the network screen first, which I think was a bit of a mistake -- it might have flowed better the other way around. Thanks for playing!

Dicelem: Rise of the Golem v0.9.0 - demoversion by Snory 2020-04-20T10:56:12Z

The mixture of the two combat systems was interesting. It might be nice to disable the mechanic where they can still hurt you even outside combat -- that might make it easier to explore how the dice rolling system works.

The Race Against Death by Salmonmeagar 2020-04-23T18:48:27Z

Good entry. Solid link to the theme and executed really well. Impressive to do this all in vanilla.js without using a framework!

X33D by Ben Taylor 2020-04-21T10:57:00Z

This was fun to play around with. I wasn't sure when the creatures were "done" -- if you leave them long enough do they reach a finished state? I guess they change lot over time (hence the collection mechanism as well as breeding) and "collect" take a snapshot at that point?

One nice thing would be the ability to nickname X33d's you like -- if the nicknames also went through combination when you bred two together which both had nicknames, that would be awesome.

I also really liked that "x33d" is "exceed". good work.

Save the station by Alexander Termer 2020-04-20T14:49:17Z

Very simple but effective design, I like it.

I had one issue with selecting structures to build -- sometimes I clicked through the menu and placed a tower behind it, which isn't great since it ends up with an isolated tower on the edge of the map and also doesn't change to the structure I want.

Space Station Alpha by kjscott 2020-04-20T08:05:28Z

Fun! I died a lot in quick succession. The resource constraints really bit hard, which is what you want out of a PvE survival game.

Clueless Sheep by Scintillae_Creations 2020-04-20T12:02:27Z

Nice game! I think I would have been happy without any enemies, just looking after a sheep.

One thing that would be nice is if it said what had finally got you when the game ended? A couple of times I wasn't sure why I'd died.

Feeding Time! by ghostonline 2020-04-20T09:40:53Z

I hit a glitch on day 3 -- accidentally threw the food through the ceiling (Happened a couple of times)

This is really fun to play, I like how minimalist it is and how the puzzle develops just by changing some of the elements really slowly on each new day.

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:47:21Z

Really cool idea and nice puzzle design! I would happily have played through a few more puzzles. Putting the controls in the "info" section might be a good idea.

Keep him alive! by Rens Jan 2020-04-20T12:34:41Z

This is a different take on "keep it alive", well done.

The Last Ship by Harryu 2020-04-20T11:51:22Z

I thought the metal was floating above my head, but in fact it extended my hitbox a long way which made walking around objects pretty tricky. This would be fine but then the little red aliens were allowed to just run straight through things! Different rules I guess.

This was a fun concept having to switch between lots of different repair tasks. Well done!

Offering by sanjuro 2020-04-20T14:35:52Z

This is very well-executed. Smart reuse of the monster graphic with different colours to make the enemy seem more varied. The core gameplay loop is tight, and the projectiles feel satisfyingly heavy like they're actually making contact with things.

I was surprised at how fast the master's health decreased! You think he'd be a little more robust after all the effort of raising him. Most of the time, when I died it was because I was worrying more about his health than my own.

Kill the undead - keep her alive (for as long as you can) by Gaspar Laprida 2020-04-19T20:53:27Z

Fun game! I am very bad at it though.

+1 for the mouse being over-sensitive -- that in combination with the map having invisible edges made it a little hard to figure out what was going on with the controls. For me, the woman ran straight into a corner and then got trapped by the zombies -- but then, it was my job to keep her safe

The Cyclist Helper by Gediminas Gurskis 2020-04-20T16:07:09Z

this is a really promising prototype -- if you are taking it further, here's a couple of mechanics you could try

- grow/shrink the ramp - press space to flip ramp (you could then have "climbing" levels moving from platform to platform) - change ramp shape (to cube, to curve, ...)

I like indirect control games. Good job!

The Game of our Lives by Owl_Skip 2020-04-19T20:57:01Z

This was so great, a good change of pace and a nice opportunity to reflect -- thank you.

LD53 — Delivery

BHAIbOEN by Local Minimum 2023-05-04T18:27:35Z

Fun! The art style reminded me of the Terry Gilliam animations from Monty Python movies. I would've liked it if I could recover lost babies from the ground - I spotted a couple but could only bump into them rather than rescue them in order to fire them again.

Sender Not Found by whycardboard 2023-05-04T18:59:19Z

Another +1 for clickable tokens - broke the immersion slightly to be copying and pasting with my mouse. I liked the concept a lot though. Great job!

Deliver us from Evil by Matt Barnfield 2023-05-02T09:50:29Z

This is a clever twist on the theme, and a fun battler. Nice card variety (sometimes a difficult thing to do under jam constraints!) One criticism I would offer is the music doesn't fit amazingly with the settings and visuals - it's a bit chilled out for battling demons in hell! Really good job though, echoing what the other commenter said about ambition - good on you for tackling a whole card-based RPG under so much time pressure, and delivering really well!

Meat Sweats by Str8griz 2023-05-04T19:37:20Z

This was fantastic - really enjoyed the absurdity of the gameplay. I started out throwing napkins at a giant face from a youtube tutorial, 30 seconds later I'm trying to shiv a sentient bottle of sauce in a stock room bullet hell. The art style is really nice and the action roguelike gameplay is crisp and fun. Overall just a wonderful entry!

Regrettably, Mr. Beard did not win the Meat Sweats challenge.

Meat Sweats by Str8griz 2023-05-05T07:12:53Z

@hcs-hades please let me know if you do make a t-shirt because I also wish I had one

GONETS. Supply delivery TD by DaniilLenin 2023-05-02T10:19:25Z

The atmosphere is great on this one and it's easy to get absorbed in refuelling the turrets. It took me a while to figure out there were other turrets beyond the initial 4 at the spawn point - maybe some kind of offscreen indicator to show you how far away other turrets are? Really liked the invisible combat that you only see via the clouds lighting up though, that was a cool effect.

Lost & Found by droo shayne 2023-05-05T08:28:49Z

This is a really lovely game, all of the elements came together really nicely. The sound effect for the candle blowing out broke my heart, I got really attached to the protagonist. I want to save them from the moose.

Wonderful.

One tiny thing: I initially didn't play the game fullscreen, which meant the health indicator and the indicator pointing back to the fire were both not visible. In some ways that added to the terror of being lost, but maybe it's something to address.

Parcelmecium by Bokonon 2023-05-02T17:03:58Z

Enjoyed this one - it was fun swinging the different weapons around, and I liked the slowed-down audio for bullet time when rebuilding your defences! Very easy to pour a lot of time into!

Pizza Dash by kdx 2023-05-02T09:43:57Z

This is great! The art style is distinctive - I like the spikes (although I can't always tell where their hitboxes are). It's a fun mixture of platformer mechanics. I wasn't great at grabbing onto things but that will come with practice I'm sure. There was just a liiiittle bit too much inertia on the character coming to a halt - it was really easy to accidentally run (not jump) into hazards.

Postpony by Kii Krindar 2023-05-02T08:15:53Z

This is nice and zen / contemplative, which the music really helps with. Good job!

Chalkboard Deliveries by Locke8 2023-05-04T18:23:39Z

Good graphics and ambitious concept, always nice to see! I struggled with getting units to pick up objects - I figured out how to move them from the instructions but once they were at buildings they didn't seem to do much.

PuffyCats by Iacopo 2023-05-02T17:11:26Z

This is a really cute game, nice job

The Mailman by Castitatis 2023-05-02T19:07:00Z

Poor dogs  this was really good! Scooters were slightly overpowered (wait for enemies to cluster, run them all down) but a fun mechanic - riding one feels a bit floaty though. Love the graphics, love the sound.

The Night Witches by Kultuk 2023-05-02T08:09:42Z

I love the art style but I can't get past the title screen for some reason?

The Night Witches by Kultuk 2023-05-02T10:00:44Z

@kultuk perfect! working now (maybe add some text to the title screen saying "PRESS ENTER" for less intelligent people like me  )

And now I can review it! I thought it was fantastic, really good jam submission. Reminded me a little bit of steambirds if you've come across that? The art style is really fresh and minimalistic, but the little touches (like the animation of the plane's wings dipping when you turn) really make the whole experience so crisp. Congratulations on a great game!

Ludum 53 Delivery by rodvik 2023-05-02T08:18:34Z

Good job, I like the vector art of the shapes and how much physics is part of the gameplay

Frontier Salvage by f1tzy 2023-05-04T18:41:16Z

This was fun but hard - I died a lot. Worked right out of the box on linux, so great job! I liked the art style - was it intentional that the asteroids kind of had little faces on? There's craters that kind of look like eyes and a mouth. I like the audio loop but I wish it had been longer / a bit more varied or had occasionally cut out completely so there was nothing but the darkness of space...

Good job, definitely one I enjoyed!

Dungeon Delivery Service by the Sÿhl 2023-05-02T17:24:58Z

Unique - loved the combination of elements here. I also forgot which key was which so I ended up strumming all of them every beat, which kind of worked.

Born Equal by CalicoBubbleTea 2023-05-02T10:07:45Z

Good concept. It would have been nice if the orders were also visible, also (at least on my screen) the baby's qualities were cut off at the top of the frame, which made it hard to pick good ones quickly. Loved the range of species available

SpaceEats by DylanBrowne 2023-05-02T08:12:32Z

The laser sound effect is really cute, and I like the background music too. Great work!
