LD46 — Keep it alive

Emergency Override by Listonos 2020-04-20T06:17:15Z

I'm not a very good gamer. I didn't understand the game that well and i didn't really get how the binary numbers toggles worked. But I got through some puzzles by trial and error. Note that this is all because I'm just not a very experienced gamer. With that being said you were able to teach someone like me most of the controls and the stuff about the modules. That's a win already. I also really liked the art and the game in general is just a very pleasant experience even though I didn't understand everything.

Locked'goshi by StabAlarash 2020-04-20T16:54:57Z

I died After 4 days I think. The game is really cool and it both fits the theme as well as the current time where all people have to stay at home. I think there is some potential in this game to make it a full release. I really liked the sound effects but especially the gameboy style pixel art :)

Fine Flowers by PietPtr 2020-04-20T14:07:54Z

The game or what you'd like to call it didn't scale to the right resolution on my computer and the scrollbars. didn't work. However, from what I can see on the screenshot the art does look nice. And I could see the clock ticking on the webpage which was a nice addition. Especially when you keep in mind that you've done this in one afternoon.

The Angel Recording the Truth by Kevin Prehn 2020-04-19T19:27:10Z

I really liked the polished UI :) And the explanations were very clear.

Eternal Flame by Galgris 2020-04-20T05:34:05Z

I liked it although the movement felt a bit off. With that being said I really like the 8 bit artstyle and sound. Well done :)

Venusian Cargo by MCjammydodger 2020-04-19T20:17:43Z

The idea of the rewind makes it so much more fun to play! Reminds me a bit of braid and thats a good thing :)

Hold That Thought by 2kah 2020-04-20T13:29:22Z

I won on the second attempt. Took a few seconds to get used to but the game is a lot of un to play! Even though I don't see any potential to turn this into a massive game it was definitely worth the time. I can't really say what you should improve because aside from some general polish I don't see what can change here. Well done!

Adventure Watch by blearn 2020-04-19T12:31:16Z

I never got very far in the game. With that being said though, I liked the art and sound effects a lot so overall I think it's a good game.

Robositter Infernal by Phlip45 2020-04-20T06:33:59Z

For some reason I actually really loved just spraying bullets on those zombies. The baby was kind of funny. I'm guessing the map is either procedurally generated or there are just some maps in which you spawn randomly. The change is a pleasant thing. The music was nice and definitely fitted the game. Things I would recommend are adding a restart button or key and adding some animations to the zombies. I wasn't to keen on the visuals as a whole to be honest but this keeping in mind that you only had 48 hours, I can understand that yu didn't spend too much time on the graphics. Overall I found it a fun little game to play for a couple of minutes.

Omiga Daycare by Wheffle 2020-04-20T08:35:20Z

Very cool, reminds me of those old games. The music was very good but I didn't like the graphics very much. But this is a game jam so given the time constraints you still managed to make a great game. Congrats!

Peculiar Farming by Arcus 2020-04-19T20:38:38Z

That music was awesome! Also a very cool interpretation of the theme :)

Sweet Resurrection by James Shipp 2020-04-20T06:24:31Z

I couldn't open this game on my mac. I'm guessing that's because I'm on macos catalina and you might've exported to mojave or high sierra. From what I've seen on your itch page the graphics look very cool though. I won't rate this game because there is more than graphics only. But I do feel like this already is an aesthetically pleasing game :)

The Village Alchemist by Falzock 2020-04-20T16:48:58Z

I really liked the environment/art/music/SFX. The game feels very polished. I don't really know what I can give you as advice besides some polish. The game itself is great for a game made in such a short amount of time!

Coronary Flypass by squirmonkey 2020-04-20T08:09:15Z

Awesome game. I found the snipers a fun challenge. it added some gameplay that you don't see too much in other games. The art was really well made and the levels were very well designed. The music also fits the game really well and it was a pleasure to listen to. Great job!

FICER by Blueberry_Mauro 2020-04-19T12:21:50Z

Where is the source code?

Don't Drop The Egg! by rk3Omega 2020-04-21T09:47:42Z

Hey! I know you! You're that guy I "didn't" bother on discord while nagging about the state of transmogrify :D Aside from my awful humour I hope I can provide some valuable feedback. I'll start with the stuff that I didn't like so much:

I really hate falling damage. This is not an offense to you, because a game can be amazing but for some reason falling damage can ruin a lot for me. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion and others might love it. In fact, as I'm writing this I think it might this might not be good feedback after all.

I didn't like the force fields that pushed you in the air, at least I didn't like them combined with falling damage. I got annoyed when I cleared all the spikes with an insane jump only to realize my legs were weak and I died.

That's pretty much everything I didn't like, but it's because I just hate the fall damage mechanic in general which is completely my own problem.

Now open a good ol motherclucking bottle of champagne because here comes the good stuff you should celebrate:

I really like the polish on the jumps. I've played super meat boy for 5 hours if steam isn't lying to me and the controls feel very much alike. The fact that you kind of jump and slide along the wall if your take of is near a wall feels very smooth. The height difference adds complexity to the platforming and I could go on about the polish you've added to the platformer controller but you know what you made so I'lll just say the controls feel awesome.

I also liked the level design and how you introduced the mechanics. Even though I'm not a fan of fall damage, the fact that you had to slide of walls to reduce your speed to the ground and thus not have to deal with fall damage was introduced in a very intuitive way. That along with some other levels made me like the level design a lot.

I'm a big fan of the pixelart. The animations were nice, The tileset for the ground was well made and the mountains in the background didn't pull my eyes away from the player but it was pleasant on a subconcious level or just if I was in an idle position looking at the game.

The music rocks. The chiptune tracks didn't get annoying and that's special because most chiptune trcks I've heard hurt my ears after playing for a while. It really added a lot of value to this game.

Overall I think you've made an amazing game and I'm very impressed by the fact that you've pulled this of in such a short amount of time. I really like playing the game and would consider it in the top 100 of all platformers on itch.io. This game really feels like a finished game already aside from some polish like particle effects (although I didn't miss them while playing). Great job!

Edit: Just saw you held an egg which is very cool and perfectly alligned with the theme. It also is a good explanation for the fall damage although purely gameplay wise I still don't like it. Amazing game!

Circuit in Distress by LyghtningWither 2020-04-20T17:08:51Z

I like the idea. But I'm awful at this game XD I really like the lighting and it looks already very polished for a gamejam game

Fuel Hungry by WubbaDuck 2020-04-20T13:37:03Z

That's some interesting gameplay. however, in regards to the gameplay I feel like it would be more fun if it were the opposite way and your radius actually grew bigger if you were lower on fuel.In reality this probably wouldn't make a lot of sense but the feel of the game would improve because the player will be going a 100% to survive at all times. In this version you pretty much know you're about to die once your radius gets small enough and at that point you're just kind of expecting your death to happen. One final piece of advice would be to add better sound effects but this is a game jam so I get that you might've been short on time. With all that being said though I think you really have a very cool idea that fits the theme of this compo very well :)

SPS10DS3 by Retti01 2020-04-20T05:06:10Z

I liked the mood and music but I didn't get very far in the game. Great job though

Primed by gimblll 2020-04-20T05:27:42Z

It's very short, but the polish, amazing graphics and tight controls, as well as some funny jokes make the game great.

Not Clowning Around! by Wilson Taylor 2020-04-19T20:13:00Z

I haven't gotten very far in the game but I like the art a lot ;)

King's Table by PetTurtle 2020-04-20T14:13:01Z

I'm not a big fan of tower defense games (I don't hate them either it's just not my cup of tea) But this was a cool game. I also really liked the artstyle and the tileset you used for the dungeon. If you will come back to this game in the future to add some polish or other stuff to the game then a soundtrack would be nice. It was a great experience!

CAMPFIRE by PROJECTaroid 2020-04-19T20:30:39Z

I really like the art and music. It's fantastic. I also love the polish on the game :D

Keep It Powered by rob1221dev 2020-04-20T13:56:35Z

I got stuck at level 8. I think it's a fun game and the mechanic of time on it's own is interesting but not unheard of. However, you did add more complexity to the game with adding those slow/fast blocks and multiple ways which really gave me the question "Do I go to the long and slow route with a battery or the fast one without a battery". And with those blocks that affected your speed the question got more and more interesting. I really liked the design and aesthetics. Maybe in the future you could add a little soundtrack or something. It was a very fun game so thanks for making it.

Fermi Paradox by tversteeg 2020-04-19T12:14:47Z

I got to level 6 and I like the variety in speed because it leaves me with the question "this one is closer so I should probably kill that first although the further one is faster so maybe that one will be here first". I really like that decision where I constantly have to estimate which one of the enemies is a bigger danger. For the controls I think it would be better if there were two keys, one for up and one for down. Because the mouse might be a bit too sensitive in some cases. Long story short: I really liked the game.

Desolation by Ollie Stone 2020-04-19T12:28:48Z

I like the idea. But I think the camera view should be a bit bigger because at this point I can't really get around the obstacles because of the speed and small camera view. There are also some scaling issues but you can probably fix that in the itch page. Cool game!

Balloon Balloon! by JetTheSimon 2020-04-20T08:45:00Z

Very fun to play around with bumping into objects in the level. The only question I have is how you link this game to the theme "keep it alive"?. I really loved the music and the aesthetics were very good.

Let's stick together by syo 2020-04-20T05:14:05Z

I liked the game but I didn't get very far because I often didn't understand when a character in the game couldn't move to a certain place. I did like the graphics though and the dialogue got kind of funny at times. Great game!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:02:02Z

@dinaharison Thanks!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:08:12Z

@kinshuk-thebest I probably won't do that in this jam because I haven't got a lot of time and I suck at drawing, but good idea! Thanks for the feedback

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:09:19Z

@cagibi You're absolutely right! it totally blocks the fun of the game. I'm fixing it so the game will have shortcuts though :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:10:08Z

@oxlox Very funny joke xD Which is why I've put it in the updated version of the game

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:11:26Z

@amirreza01 You're totally right and I appreciate the fact that you pointed that out. I've just added some shortcuts thanks to you and you're fellow gamers :D

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:14:18Z

@sacrface Beating all the five levels is very impressive! As far as I'm concerned everyone who finished at least one level is a winner in my opinion so you really are a die hard :D And I made those shortcuts you guys like so I hope that makes the game a bit better :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:15:56Z

@odeyalko Thanks! that means a lot to me :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:16:36Z

@dg Thanks for the feedback. It was a good inside regarding the difficulty curve :D

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:16:59Z

@cateye Thanks for your kind words :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:17:57Z

@drikdrok Just finished some shortcuts because I agree with you guys on the fact that the UI was a bit annoying. Thanks for the feedback

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:19:09Z

@zwodahs and @wilson-taylor This comment is for both of you because you both make very good points. I've just added the shortcuts ;)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T19:59:04Z

@arcus The joke was there thanks to a fellow community member called @oxlox . I agree on having a drum so I might add that after the jam :D

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:00:47Z

@scifi6546 Thanks for your feedback. You gave me some really godd suggestions. I don't think I can add that before the compo is over but maybe in the future I'll consider adding such a feature.

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:02:22Z

@curleyrach I agree on the difficult controls but I updated the game so there are some shortcuts which you can find in the description of the itch.io page. Thanks for the feedback :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:04:10Z

@generalsturgeon The countdown timer is a reallyy good idea and would probably make the game much more enjoyable. In the time remaining of this compo I won't be able to make this but I might add it if I come back to the game after ludum dare 46 is over.

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:05:13Z

@pabricka There should be shortcuts written in the description. Thanks for the feedback on the game :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:07:09Z

@bjornkri You're one of the few people who managed to complete the game. Which is very impressive because some levels were really hard. Congrats :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:08:27Z

@ssstormy I agree on that. I probably won't have time to do that before the compo ends but it might be something to come back to after ludum dare 46

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:10:23Z

@szivacs Yeah I completely get what you mean and I also don't like it when other games restart the music every time. It would probably take some time to make it so it doesn't restart so I won't add that in the time of this compo. Although I might add that after LD46. Thanks for the valuable feedback :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-19T20:46:44Z

@owl-skip That thing of reaching all over your keyboard could give interesting and funny results. And I agree on the fact that dogs are very stubborn when you're trying to teach them how to smoke. But hey, it does give you some of the most badass photos you can share on facebook so it's worth the effort ;)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T06:05:36Z

@detdu The theme is keep it alive. If you don't bring the food to the dog he dies.

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T08:13:37Z

@squirmonkey Hahaha, the smoking does give the game a little plot twist at the end of the game. I also just checked out your game and it was amazing!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T12:42:56Z

@ironygames Thanks! And I totally agree with your advice. I think the things you mentioned would make the game a lot better.

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T17:23:11Z

@sen-kappa I never said the green stuff wasn't weed ;) And you're feedback definitely makes sense. Thanks for that :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T20:19:08Z

@mykola thanks!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-21T05:43:50Z

@phlip45 Thanks! and you're game was amazing :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-21T06:02:59Z

@horus yes, it's totally wrong. But we all like it so who cares ;) And thanks for the feedback!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-21T09:57:12Z

@lalada I know but I gave him a very expensive funeral. Also, thanks for the valuable feedback :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-21T11:47:42Z

@trmrddr he has, press f to pay respect

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-21T12:34:48Z

@rk3omega Thanks for the feedback. It was very interesting to read :)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-22T16:45:52Z

@ytaha that's some valuable feedback! The dog is basically one of those assholes who wear sunglasses inside and smokes even when being around children. Thanks for the kind words!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-22T19:12:10Z

@necromic thanks! glad to see a fellow smoking dogs critic who appreciates this ;)

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-26T13:35:50Z

@splitpainter I agree with you. Thanks for the kind words :)

Memories by Artaupossum 2020-04-20T17:21:48Z

I had a bug or something that turned my screen black. From my experience I think the game would be a bit better if there would be a different animation for the for directions the player can move to. Although I don't know if that would form another problem in the game or if you already know that but left it due to time constraints. I will say that I really liked the music and I would've loved to play the game a bit longer ;)

Good Shapes, Bad Shapes by ishmandoo 2020-04-20T08:38:30Z

I really liked the aesthetic and music of this game. The shader gave the game a very polished look and just made the game very fun to look at. Well done!

This game is broken don't play it by mcaddie 2020-04-19T11:45:02Z

Hi, I tried to play it on mac but it didn't work.

This Website Will Self-destruct (dot) com by FemmeAndroid 2020-04-19T10:58:46Z

This is something that I don't see having potential to grow a lot bigger or make a genre on itself. But it is an awesome idea and not everything should be game changing and super important. It was super fun to try it out and I really liked writing the letter. Overall I consider this a really exceptional, small and cool idea.

The Game of our Lives by Owl_Skip 2020-04-19T20:20:40Z

That was so fun! The music reminds me a bit of the alto's adventure music. It also has a very relaxing vibe. Thanks for making and sharing this!

Keep Your Rage Alive! by cateye 2020-04-19T20:41:37Z

Awesome game! it's an original concept which is the whole point of Ludum Dare. It also probably wasn't very easy to code this thing in such a short amount of time. Good job :)

Mine of Shadows by JesmoDev 2020-04-20T10:38:35Z

Very cool. The music, sound and graphics (especially that shader) give the whole game a cosy vibe. The gun was also easy to control and the game feels very polished. Well done!
