LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Omelettes by stevenjmiller 2018-12-04T13:33:28Z

Easily the best game I've played this LD. Amazingly much content that ramps up difficulty nicely, incorporates the tutorial into the gameplay, and provides genuinely interesting puzzles. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I find something of this level of quality in an LD.

Only improvements I could point out are that: Even just a simple music loop in the background would have been nice. It was a bit difficult to differentiate between the different height levels at times, but it was surprisingly intuitive, and didn't bother me nonetheless.

FTD : Fixin' to Die by nuclearfriend 2018-12-09T18:57:19Z

Oh, absolutely wonderful. The animations, the sounds, even the voice acting. Gameplay was also nice and snappy, and all the effects were good, and I've honestly very little bad to say about this game.

Fallen Girl by fullmontis 2018-12-04T12:44:21Z

Although the game was short, the level design was nice. I enjoyed getting the extra hearts at places. Audio was a very quiet, but otherwise pretty good. Graphics were the strongest part. I'm quite a fan of such an art style. The jumping was a bit floaty (but I understand that that's kind of how it is with an adjustable jump height). And although the sacrifice mechanic and the element of choice were nice, it was basically always a better choice to give up a heart.

Sacrifice by Sword by Torn 2018-12-04T11:06:53Z

@dougdevs Thank you very much for the feedback. A minimap and some terrain decorations were planned, but I ran out of time to implement them. I agree that having to turn around to attack feels kind of tedious, but I felt like it might be too easy otherwise. In hindsight, I think there is some better compromise to be found between the two. The sword cooldown indicator is a good idea.

Sacrifice by Sword by Torn 2018-12-09T21:27:27Z

@erikkire What improvements would you recommend for the controls? What do you feel is most wrong with them? I agree it's more fun to attack really fast, but I figured I would set the attack speed low at first so you couldn't just mindlessly hold down attack. Spend some points into attack speed, and the situation should quickly improve.

Sadly even for such simple sprites, the animations took way too much time for me, so I scrapped the idea of having fancy attacks or more enemy types.

A Walk In The Neighborhood by aeveis 2018-12-04T13:06:25Z

The art and narrative are nice, cozy, and heartwarming but it's not much of a game with nothing to do. Would have liked to see some choices, like what would have happened, had I not given my stuff away.

Keyboard Twister by Papercookies 2018-12-04T12:53:35Z

Really made me laugh. Simple idea, but a great result. What is actually a very big problem though is, yes, that most keyboards do not support so many simultaneous keypresses in a close region. Often even as few as 3 is too many. This really breaks the game, sadly.

Eternal Home Floristry by Deconstructeam 2018-12-10T01:55:49Z

I am at a loss for words for the quality of this game. I'd give a 6 for mood and 5.5 for graphics and audio, but I can not. My only, and by that I mean the *only*, gripe was the spelling mistakes.

Gosh, most proper paid games these days aren't even as good, and that's accounting for the length of the thing.

The Mist by tpamir 2018-12-09T23:56:38Z

I really like it, but there's the problem that sometimes you just don't get the things you need, leading you to an inevitable demise.

Otherwise, it's real neat, nothing bad to say.

Ludum Dare: The Game by Darylsteak 2018-12-04T14:03:20Z

The pop-ups were thematic, but didn't tie too much into the gameplay. Overall, it was very simplistic - just click buttons and eat, sleep, and game to make sure you don't fail. Not much thought needed from the player. The pixel art was nice though.

Lava Luva by mcovert 2018-12-04T12:27:37Z

Rather easy, but I liked the style and the overall idea. Just wish there was more to it. Right now it's just "do anything and win".

Eskate Death by DougDevs 2018-12-04T12:05:46Z

I feel like the skill cap could be improved by allowing the player to vary the time of the jumps. As it stands now, it's often quite unavoidable to hit an ascending ramp and lose most of your speed. Also, sometimes the game throw a lot of ascending ramps in a row, and if you mess up on one, it can be impossible to get the speed to get going again.

However, I feel it fit the theme very well. I wanted to stack all the penguins, and making a sacrifice felt quite difficult.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keeping SNES Alive! by drludos 2020-04-21T14:30:44Z

The game itself wasn't too much, but it's amazing that it's actually a game for an old console. Max points for the theme for that. =D

Keep It Alive by danman9914 2020-04-21T14:20:45Z

Excellent work. Art and audio, and by extension, the atmosphere, were great, save for the lack of any music. Shoe tying looked liked it was a timing thing, but I guess not? And I wasn't sure if after falling I'd have to press W to get back up. But for the most part the controls were intuitive, and the gameplay, while not much, was well made. The small story woven in there was nice as well.

ADRENA-LINE by managore 2020-04-21T09:58:32Z

To get the negatives out of the way - I don't feel it chimed with the theme very well, and it was lacking music. The gameplay was also very simple. However, this simplicity made the game very intuitive and made it flow well. I really felt the rush as I raced against the clock, which was also a nice addition to an otherwise simple game. Overall, everything that was present, was very polished.

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-21T09:48:43Z

A unique concept with lovely visuals. Sound effects were nice, but there was sadly no music. The intuitive gameplay was also a plus, but the levels were a bit simple for my liking. Overall, great job!

No Fish To Die by dillonbecker 2020-04-21T14:51:35Z

The lasers blink so fast and require like perfect precision to throw the fish into the tank at level 2 and then make it through. I just couldn't do it. I liked the funny intro though. Didn't seem like a bad game, I just can't time to save my goldfish.

Hacking is Probably Not Like This by sayumeki 2020-04-21T15:42:53Z

Absolutely loved the puzzles and the upgrade system. Even if the other aspects of the game were lacking, this is the most fun game I've played this LD.

Lich Clicker by Fictions 2020-04-21T15:05:36Z

It's a bit simple, being a clicker game, but I loved the voice lines and the decisions to make.

Lamps by qkjosh 2020-04-21T14:43:09Z

The visuals look really nice, but I didn't quite get what I was supposed to be doing. At one point, my light stopped working and that was sadly the end of my journey as I was stuck in darkness.

The Dragon's Curse by Aditya Kumar 2020-04-21T15:30:58Z

I kept running out of supplies even with taking every opportunity to get more. Not sure if I was doing something wrong. I liked the art and the music and the writing, so all that was great though.

It Lives by Sbug 2020-04-21T16:00:39Z

Oh I love these kind of growing games where you later go back to eat things you couldn't before. It wanting to eat you after it got big enough was a nice touch and made the game more difficult. I just wish I were a bit faster to outrun it should it suddenly turn around.

Remember, Apollo by AdamCYounis 2020-04-21T10:34:44Z

The audio was a bit quiet and there wasn't much of a *game*, but that's about where the bad stuff ends. The atmosphere and art were amazing, and I managed to get quite invested in the story, despite its brevity. The branching path that looped in on itself and allowed you to experience the story slightly differently depending on how you went was great.

Overall, really well made!

Save the Fish by Duck Reaction 2020-04-21T14:26:12Z

I'm a bit slow for these kinds of games, but I can appreciate the funny visuals and sounds. Gameplay's simple, but works.

OwOrbit by AudreyC 2020-04-21T15:12:03Z

It's adorable! Didn't feel like there was too much I could do to not get hit, but the music is nice to listen to.

My Mother is a Caravan? by Gideonnf 2020-04-21T15:21:18Z

The ranged characters were a bit difficult to fight against, and it seemed like no one actually went after my mother, meaning I could leave her in the middle of monsters. It was also a bit difficult to understand where my sword was pointing, but no, overall I liked the game. Lovely graphics, good sound, maybe a bit cryptic as to what I was supposed to do, but I liked it.
