I love this kind of storytelling. Great job!

hangarter 2020-04-21 02:42

Interesting idea. Maybe a bit more variety in the background scenes could have helped with engagement. But overall great!

darthnumbers 2020-04-21 02:42

aesthetic and graphics were very nice, and I'm a sucker for this type of game. A little hard, but fun. I laughed at a lot of the dialogue.

joannetteg 2020-04-21 02:44

Original art style. Along with the music it created a very pleasant atmosphere !

t-c 2020-04-21 02:46

Fun game, fun idea! I did get softlocked, though. I got to the merchant offering to sell you all of the relics, and didn't have enough gold for what he was selling. When I tried to say "that's outrageous" - it just looped the text and I couldn't get out.

Good job!

picusbgames 2020-04-21 02:49

Beautifully drawn, interesting take on the theme. A choose your own adventure with board game type elements :)

kristinamay 2020-04-21 02:50

I liked this! I didn't realize that I had to gather everything BEFORE i got to the castle, so I accidentally got there by the quickest route and he yelled at me and my baby dragon (??) died. Thanks for the game, love seeing a fellow narrative-structure-focused game maker!!

reid-willis 2020-04-21 02:50

Fantastic game. Very different than the others I've played so far. I'm loving the hand-drawn art, and the story telling is very humorous. You should be very proud of this! I'm definitely bookmarking and will play it some more

theqiwiboy 2020-04-21 02:50

THIS GAME IS GREAT. The only thing is that after about 5 tries, I still couldn't beat the game, but over all, it was great.

ranjan 2020-04-21 02:52

Very creative! I made a beeline for the tower the first time and ended up dying, my next runs were pretty successful though. The art and music are really good!

alphabetasoup 2020-04-21 02:53

I'm a huge fan of this style of storytelling. Feels like I'm playing DnD :) Well done!

petrifiedapple 2020-04-21 02:54

The game doesn't seem to load for us, we'll try again tomorrow

pvp 2020-04-21 02:54

That was an amazing experience. Art and music was perfect.

kanonix 2020-04-21 02:54

Impressive !

myles-mccoy 2020-04-21 02:54

Really ambitious game given the time limit! I liked the music a lot, the art was nice, and the dialogue was funny. It is crazy hard but in the end its more about the journey than the destination, right? Also I got stuck in an infinite loop in shoptown; i didn't have enough money to buy the supplies so all I could say was "THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS" and it would just restart the conversation.

x-c 2020-04-21 02:54

This game is really great!

kilthrall 2020-04-21 02:54

Really beautiful game, I loved it

jlv 2020-04-21 02:54

What a fun game ! A love text-based entries, and this one also had graphics and wit as a cherry on the cake. The quest to save the dragon pup was very enjoyable, and I really liked cruising my way to the tower before realizing how poor I was.

Strenghts : - Fun writing, close to games like Crusader Kings 2 - Great artworks - Good rhythm

Cons : - Some readability problems in menus

Excellent job !

2020-04-21 02:55

I can't win the game. I think there's too much RNG.

spookyfish 2020-04-21 02:57

great music, the story's very well written, I had a good time with this game.

trifectuh 2020-04-21 02:58

This was a fantastic experience. The writing and artwork is great. I loved getting to use the items gained along the way. Makes the game feel very complete and thought out. Nice work!

(played great on my phone also btw)

radow 2020-04-21 03:00

I like the combination of an oldschool text adventure with the atmospherical drawings and the map to navigate through. For The map it would have been great to have a bit more of an idea what path to go for, but I guess this way playing it multiple times can become rewarding =)

antaresvaldemar 2020-04-21 03:00

I enjoyed this, very atmopsheric and humorous, and the dialogue was nicely detailed, cool artwork too. I got stuck on a certain dialogue where it just said "the mist is all around you", not sure if that's a bug or intentional punishment lol. Anyway, very nice work!

snweos 2020-04-21 03:02

Amazing background art! Incredible writing!

My only complaint is the difficulty is pretty brutal since it's rng based. Though that being said, this is still by a significant margin my favourite game out of this jam so far! Absolutely incredible work from all of you!

denglishdesign 2020-04-21 03:02

Wow really nice game! The map being randomly generated was a very pleasant surprise! :D I am generally not the greatest fan of text adventures, but the execution on this one and the visualization of the map and resources was very pleasant :)

elq 2020-04-21 03:02

Damn I got some Sorcery! vibes from this. Great job!

kfischer-okarin 2020-04-21 03:02

Very nice atmosphere and music. I like the somewhat board game like character of the game. I think I found a bug.... in the village where you can seemingly buy the artifacts but in the end only get offered expensive supplies you cannot decline to buy the supplies....

hyperbabyduck 2020-04-21 03:02

I really liked this art style and theme! I ran out of supplies because I'm always a pushover in these games!

larryv 2020-04-21 03:07

Wow! Really loved your game, it reminds me of those books i had when i was young, go to page 6, and stuff like that. The hand-drawn art look suppper nice and the music fits the style well. The game has a great overall mood. Great Job.

dedicave 2020-04-21 03:23

Great game. Love the mood it creates. Id suggest a little more variation in visuals and audio so it keeps more engaging to the players.

britt 2020-04-21 03:46

My dragon died and I was heartbroken! Very nice game :)

audreyc 2020-04-21 04:16

Very cool game! It was fun exploring all the random events (it took me about 10 tries to actually win and it seemed like there was something new each time). The music and art is great, though the font is a little hard to read. Great job.

thedashdude 2020-04-21 04:21

Fun adventure. The dialog was witty and the art was nice, but I felt there were too few random events. My last few runs before I ran I found nothing new for me to do. I was interested enough in the game to retry through that, though.

connie-liu 2020-04-21 04:27

Woah, loved the theme and the premise of the game! The dialogue was fun to read and mechanics were easy to understand.

yiyongc 2020-04-21 05:43

Very enjoyable game! I love the story-telling and the rng elements in different scenes. Awesome tutorial as well!

corruptor2037 2020-04-21 05:55

Very pleasant to find a fantasy story that interesting to read, not that template *** I see around so much I like it much

tomeks 2020-04-21 06:51

Very nice story and drawigs, the mood is matched perfectly. Well done.

isaiah 2020-04-21 07:38

Fun game! Really enjoyed the story. I don't play very many text adventure games but this one was really cool. The writing was stellar and music was a nice touch. I liked being able to travel between towns. I think what would have really added to the 'strategy' aspect is if we were able to ask townspeople different questions about where we might find the relics. Or maybe there could have been more clues for which towns to go to. I think that would have really helped the interactive aspect. "So you're looking for a relic huh? I heard rumors of dark magics spreading in the town north of here." Something like that to aid with direction, as I felt like I was aimlessly moving from town to town to find the relics.

krebzor 2020-04-21 07:52

I really loved the idea and the story itself, great imagination you have there! there is alot of dialogue and alot of fun stuff being said, and I mean it in a great way. The music is very nice and perfect for the ambient. The only thing I think I lacked was the theme itself to the competition.... it didnt feel "keep it alive".... but it is perfect for an RPG start of a game

chambre19 2020-04-21 08:28

As an artist and writer, I really loved this. You should be proud of your work here on this. It is amazing. I will definitely be returning to this when I have some more time to play it through fully.

Keep up the good work and i hope to see you in the next Ludum Dare!

jamesolivermusic 2020-04-21 10:23

Very nice storytelling and beautiful graphics!

gimblll 2020-04-21 11:28

I embarked upon the quest that was laid upon me, but it seems I'm an utterly hopeless adventurer. The dragon never had a chance. As a penance I shall now meditate on my failures for three thousand days and nights and also play [5000g] as a tribute to the local dragon conservation society.

chocolat-endive 2020-04-21 11:49

This one is really fun. And the drawings matches perfectly the mood of the game. Love that it has some replay value! Really good job here. VIVA LA REVOLUCION :D

gandalfderwaise 2020-04-21 12:09

I have to admit, that that's not the kind of game I like to play on a PC (for too long), but I just wanted to tell you that I really love the Idea, your amazing artwork, the funny script, and all the love you put into developing this - realy great job!!

effarek 2020-04-21 12:46

The game is great but really hard (or maybe I just didn't have luck)

ponypen 2020-04-21 13:04

This game isn't really my sort of game, but I was pleasently surprised to find myself enjoying it. I loved the artwork and story, I only wish there was a little bit more in terms of variety of artwork.

crispy-chicken 2020-04-21 13:19

The Artwork and The Music really gives the game a medieval feel. Good Narrative Too!

valisse21 2020-04-21 13:37

I love this type of games, so I really enjoyed it. Reminds of DnD type games and strategies. The music really gives this medieval atmosphere, as the art. But it was really hard to read the dialogues, the font was to much bold and cursive and it is not well readable on the black transparent background. I also think that different arts on the each town background would make it look more nice. But any, I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you very much.

heyllopotato 2020-04-21 13:59

Game had really cool graphics, only thing was that it was a lot of just the same graphics from each town, also the font was a little hard to read but not that much. It was overall a really cool and game had some fun!

jusw85 2020-04-21 14:17

It's a good roguelite - choose your own adventure type of the game. I felt that choices were too random though, and there's not much strategy a player can effect to alter the outcome. I guess the core mechanic is to repeatedly go through the game and learn what are the good choices.

In the end I managed to beat the game after a number of playthroughs. The only relic I managed to find naturally was the cultists surrounding the orb (no preconditions, single choice). Then get 800g, and rush to the capital. Also, it's possible to backtrack onto any grey node without incurring any cost. Since there's no difference between the nodes on the world map, it's best to make a path straight to the capital, then spend remaining supplies exploring open nodes that were passed.

chromaphase 2020-04-21 14:26

Always appreciating original artwork, keep going ! Maybe could replace some small graphics element by handdrawings as well, to keep the style altogether.

torn 2020-04-21 15:30

I kept running out of supplies even with taking every opportunity to get more. Not sure if I was doing something wrong. I liked the art and the music and the writing, so all that was great though.

vex 2020-04-21 16:09

Five attempts and not even gotten close to winning. It's a bit too random for my taste.

frokes 2020-04-21 16:20

Music appears to be broken for me as it's played at 2 - 3x speed with horrible clipping. Tested in both chrome and firefox. Looks great though!

synystercola 2020-04-21 17:11

I really like the artwork! The gameplay is like a rougelike Oregon Trail. A little random, but I think I got the hang of the play style. Good work!

kiln 2020-04-21 18:17

I'm assuming the music wasn't yours because you opted out, but nevertheless it was a great choice. Very fitting to the game itself, and even if it wasn't yours, picking the right music is still important. I loved the game, very Oregon Trail-like in gameplay I think, but definitely your own. It plays like an Interactive Fiction game which is fun.

brokencoggames 2020-04-21 18:21

Great story telling! I enjoyed the fact that picking up someone early on has benefits down the road. Really great music and transition sound FX too.

mcprog 2020-04-21 18:32

I had an issue where I tried to continue through the fog and it came up with the same options (to continue or to wait) but I could not continue.

indie-dragon 2020-04-21 18:45

Nice ambiencing and cool graphs

convg 2020-04-21 18:48

Really awesome game. The story is nice, the humor is great. I love the drawings, and it was difficult but not overly so. Really had fun with this.

johnjoemcbob 2020-04-21 19:00

Really great aesthetic, love that you included such an in depth tutorial. Fun! Well done!! VIVA LA REVOLUTION

sadsmile 2020-04-21 19:44

Very funny game. The gameplay isn't very original but the writing is nice and the music adds to it as well. I also like the drawn backgrounds.

duke 2020-04-21 20:39

That was a unique experience. Cool idea and well executed as well. There isn't really much I can provide as constructive feedback aside from that the game could use some more polish in most of it's departments. The soundtrack was awesome, but sounded crisly and glitchy. DonÄt know if it was just me or the browser. The art was cool but could be expanded more. Especially to provide more context to the stuff that is happenening in the sequences. Aside from that, really good production! Not too long, not too short and a lot of replay value.

taran-unraveler 2020-04-21 20:58

My poor lil dragon died twice :( This is a great game! Had a lot of fun playing it! Thanks for your entry!

garys 2020-04-21 21:41

Really nice entry... the dialog was great and made me chuckle. I played through a bunch of times to see what else might happen, and I liked that taking people along for the ride often resulted in more options at a given town. Alas, I never managed to keep my dragon alive. :(

kleinzach 2020-04-21 22:17

Well done! I really like the graphics and the mood. My may point of feedback would be that there isn't much decision making when moving around the overworld. Sometimes games will have different icons or something to give a sense for what sort of encounter you might get when you go there. For instance, If I am low on supplies I might go to a farm to see if I can get more through the encounter. As it stands, I just have to be lucky to run into enough good events before the end.

technogoth 2020-04-21 22:34

Kinda like a fantasy version of FTL. End up dying every time without getting a relic or saving the little dragon.

gus-the-shark 2020-04-22 00:43

You guys deserve 1st place for mood. This was incredibly immersive and fun. Thank you for making this! I guess my only criticism is it is not very innovative but I'm nitpicking. Cheers!

kunonooni 2020-04-22 03:38

The overall presentation made the game very immersive especially the music. I liked how the map was random on each playthrough I did. I wasn't able to save the poor fellow but I enjoyed the time I had with him though

yarl 2020-04-22 05:17

Excellent work on the mood and story, probably the deepest in that way of the games I've played so far. Nice art and music. Great job.

bongooo 2020-04-22 07:02

Just played! very nice! Probably I will tweet about this in the next day on this page https://twitter.com/Free_IndieGames !

robowarrior1982 2020-04-22 07:24

this game remind me a lot of hours to playing at warlords(on PC), ambient is good, yours is a board game well done! maybe you display the choice on the map to make a better transition and i LOVE this music.TD3.jpg

shaolin-dave 2020-04-22 07:30

Music is nice and calming, the drawings are absolutely beautiful. Gameplay is a little lacking, sometimes not even offering choices (I actually would have skipped on those berries). Normally I don't like Jam games to be too wordy but this fit pretty well.

lapisraider 2020-04-22 09:09

Love the aesthetics and visuals of the game! Some of the dialogue is also really funny. I ended up playing the game a few times cause my dragon keeps dying XD

florianduf 2020-04-22 09:31

It's exactly what I love for story telling and ambiance :) The music is great and the artwork awesome !! The tale is about the surviving of a dragon or the hero so it's in the theme. I found it very hard... you probably need some luck and now every dialogue outcome but... It's not a problem to try and try again :)

jakier 2020-04-22 09:57

Good game, I like the text adventure / resource management mix. I found the font to be too busy for the textbox and makes for an unpleasent read. I think something simpler would work better and the font you used could fir better for the UI The art is very nice, and the world building and writing is fun.

pushkan 2020-04-22 10:47

A lot of text. Sorry, i need a game, not a book! =D

noirdrive 2020-04-22 12:15

This game has such a nice visuals. Maybe there is much more game mechanics for example turn based combat could be better but it is a good procedurally generated storytelling anyways. Thank you!

redfenix 2020-04-22 12:34

I didn't want to read so much text, but I liked the graphics and music

fat-cat 2020-04-22 13:01

Wow the art is so pretty! Didn't manage to save the dragon sadly :(

sinamon 2020-04-22 13:05

Great art. Great music. Well done!

fabula-rasa 2020-04-22 13:11

I loved the storyteling and the art both! Music was also nice and complemented everything else. It reminded me a bit of "Banner Saga", minus the cursed dragon ;).

Great job on the game! I have like zero complaints about it and will definitelly replay it!

jazkottaja 2020-04-22 13:30

Really fun storytelling. really liked the mood it gave. could have added some kind of travel animation or mid-traven encounters but other than that it was really good

pusheeneiro 2020-04-22 16:51

Great story and beautiful graphics.

cybernetic 2020-04-22 17:56

I have to learn from you and your game! Storytelling is too underestimate!

coleslaughter 2020-04-22 19:44

This is some top-notch writing. I'd have to say my favorite part was the "Difficult conversation" I had with the gatekeeper after I refused to pay the toll, haha.

I love the atmosphere and overall tone of this game! Although I wish there a non-random way I could go about completing it, this is a pretty good compromise given the time constraints of the jam. Absolutely well done!

kate90 2020-04-22 20:05

NIIICE! I tried three times but failed (once at destination point), amazing story, beautiful art, gorgeus! At third attempt a part with entering into mist freezed, it didnt let me to choose an option and continue the travel.

mathurin 2020-04-22 22:38

Nice realization, nice storytelling graphics and sound!

acgaudette 2020-04-22 22:40

neat content-focused rogue lite with some fun dialogue. good work! the difficulty curve feels more random than intentional, but I enjoyed that it took some time to beat. the font is a bit difficult to read for such a text heavy game, but that's only a minor gripe

williamcarter 2020-04-22 22:46

Great game! I really enjoyed the atmosphere you were able to infuse into the game over such a short time. My only bit of constructive criticism would be to adjust the UI to feel more skeuomorphic, like maybe using a scroll for the window outline? idk. Either way, great game guys.

bakemonomori 2020-04-23 01:52

One of the best games of the jam

nghia-lam 2020-04-23 05:53

The graphic is so good. Nice storytelling also. :v: Congrats

adamcyounis 2020-04-23 06:37

I got a little distracted while voice acting for this game, so i forgot the supplies and the dragon baby died (oops). I thought the art was a nice addition to the game, and helped build a sense of scene. I think overall, some variation would have gone a long way, as all of the towns looked alike, and every location was a town. That said, you have a knack for writing, and I enjoyed reading it. Nice choice of audio for setting the scene. Good stuff, thanks for the game!

vesper 2020-04-23 08:35

I really enjoyed the core idea/mechanics. Didn't manage to "win" on the couple of play-through's I made, but I certainly enjoyed it. I know from experience how tough it is writing this much content for a game in 72 hours, so I take my hat off to you! Very well done.

endytroll 2020-04-23 08:58

Nice game. Interesting mechanics and cute graphic :) Good job!

magnusfurcifer 2020-04-23 08:59

Really nice hand drawn environments. Good use of music assets. Lots of good writing has gone into this.

Obviously more content would be nice, but it's a jam game so that's not an issue. My primary piece of feedback is that the text can be a bit tough to read (I have crap eyesight), some sort of contrast would have make it a bit easier.

mooshi 2020-04-23 09:47

Good work! I like narrative games very much. For this concept I recommend to use more graphics. It would make feedback for player more expressively. Since this is the text game, pay attention to interface. Sometimes the text get out of the frame. This makes reading more difficult for player. Text games must be comfortable for reading. Good luck and good job! <3

shigor 2020-04-23 11:59

Nice one, although it seems a bit too random for my taste. I gave it about half dozen tries and always failed... Some of the texts reall made me smile.

azo 2020-04-23 15:11

Fantastic art! Seemed a bit hard but i loved the humour and the variation in encounters. Again, the art is really what sets this above lots of text games, i think you did a great job!

charles-fernandez 2020-04-23 15:27

I played this game an unhealthy amount of times to finally beat haha. I think the game is a little too much RNG, as I found myself dying a lot while making, what I believe, to be the best possible decisions you could make in the moment. But this definitely holds A LOT of potential! I enjoyed the story and a couple of weird concepts like spamming to keep searching through the mist or zoning out at the guard giving you a lesson on paying the toll. I never really liked games like these before, but I really enjoyed this one!

I'm not sure if this will help anyone, but this is how I finally won the game: James, the Historian. I got 1 relic and James left me with 1000g. With that, I rushed on over to the Grand Wizard to rent the rest of the materials for 800g.

James-You-da-man-meme-40509.jpg

kkrac 2020-04-23 16:37

Great hand drawn graphics and pleasant music. The text is not very readable. An innovative take on the theme.

locksmitharmy 2020-04-23 17:35

that was... AWESOME! great game

ryzy27 2020-04-23 17:52

The best entry in my opinion. I'm on my 2nd playthrough while writing that and I need to go back as the music and the adventure lures me in again.

Perfect.

coatline 2020-04-23 18:30

Really nice atmosphere you created there. The art was very nice, the music was soothing, and it just had a nice feel to it. The only thing is that I think that the font is a little too hard to read. Great job.

recursor 2020-04-23 18:32

This reminds me a bit of the Inkle games (80 days, and the Sourcery! series) which is a good thing. One bit of feedback: It would be helpful to show gold and supplies all the time, so that I can make an informed decision when in the towns. I like that the main map is different every time too which provides some more replay value. Great stuff!

madalaski 2020-04-23 18:47

Love the variety, love the world. There's a lot of good fun and I will certainly keep playing because my god there must be SOME way to beat it! I did have a glitch where I went below 0 money after buying a new wagon but aside from that it was a lovely experience.

lesslwo 2020-04-23 19:41

Solid entry and very nice art.

inaki-roque 2020-04-23 20:09

love the music, and the story telling concept! great job!

ifidamas 2020-04-23 20:47

Wonderful game, really enjoyable. I loved the theme, fantastic audio (truly immersive).

I was at first catched by the spectacular drawings, but I would loved to see more of them! Maybe asking one for each town is asking for the sky, but I think at least making few more background would have changed my overall rating from 5/5 into a... well... 5/5.

pilarius 2020-04-23 21:45

Nice game and cute graphics :) Great entry!

fatsheep 2020-04-24 00:59

Loved the adventure, and the art was great!

ryulan 2020-04-24 01:42

Ok this was a lot of fun - the music was beautiful and the dialogue was definitely funny enough for multiple playthroughs. I especially like the fog one - which I figured out in the end. XD Anyway, there seemed to be a very minor issue after the title screen where the game would show a purple-ish screen until you clicked again, but besides that I enjoyed every bit of this game. Thank you for making it! XD

pomelouncia 2020-04-24 02:12

Interesting conversation. Classic gameplay. Nice art. Let this adventure have a very good experience!

tattomoosa 2020-04-24 02:28

I played 3 times and never really got very far... it seems like its just random if you can do well or not, and the odds are stacked way against you. The art and music were very nice though, and it made me chuckle several times.

amerigo-gazaway 2020-04-24 07:16

Really love the artwork. The world travel system is nice and lot's of surprises along the way. If you ever need original music keep me in mind!

miracl 2020-04-24 09:52

This not my kind of game at all but I can see that you did great ! The art (and the font :D) fit very well with the story and it seems that there is a deep narrative work done. And you took the time to explain the game at the begining. Very good entry !

I wonder how did you manage to have your html build full screen at the page load ?

bigwhiteshogun 2020-04-24 12:15

Funny and eyes pleasing. Sadly after many tries I feel like if you win or not only depends on your luck as randomness is to strong and I never felt like it was my fault that I failed, or that I could've done something better. Also the popup about the mist, if you decide to continue walking, second option won't work and you are forced to wait anyway. Overall really nice entry.

I did encounter an issue where at least after my first game the tutorial messages were still showing up but I was able to go from city to city, and when starting a new game the screen would flicker from one scene to another then back again for one part of the intro sequence.

I hadn't caught it the first time around but you greyed out the different places that you've visited already which is cool but it wasn't quite bold enough to obviously notice. The dialogue I enjoyed and the music was great to listen to in the background while playing. I'm hoping that sometime after my fifth attempt I might actually beat the game XD Hasn't happened yet :(

This game is beautiful!

nsadie 2020-04-24 19:22

I really enjoyed it! Excellent writing and very well done. I enjoyed the mood and the music.

fvafhae 2020-04-24 23:33

Impressive entry with awesome gameplay! I like the atmosphere, marvellous music and interesting writings, which altogether creates engaging gameplay.

Excellent game, very engaging and interesting, especially charming and enjoyable. I've played it through many times already. I currently professionally speedrun this game, I think I hold the WR; the current speedrun meta is to get James as soon as possible and collect as much gold as you can; forget relics, just get enough gold to rent all the equipment. If you don't have James on your first or second town you may want to restart your entire game. Cheers.

I personally don't like "Read and choose" games, so I'll not be voting in the categories that I'd be biased by that... BUT...

Pros:

- ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE SONG (I saw you Opted out that, but great choice of music, really matched with the game) - The painted over the sketch art-style really caught my eyes and drove me to just be staring at the background and forget it was even a game, They are so good it made me wish to add them to my Desktop's Wallpaper - The map exploring system gave me a "Faster than light" vibe, really enjoyed that.

Cons:

- Sometimes the designated area that all the text should be in gets overloaded and some answers shows up outside this area (First screenshot) - In the same screenshot above I'm asked with things that involves my precious coin, but it hasn't shown me how much of it I had (Maybe detecting if the choice involves money and displaying it on the screen instead of going to the map section?) On the second Screenshot I don't even have the option to click on the map to check my wallet. Capture.PNG No Option.PNG

Well, I guess that sums up for what I could find out of your game, even knowing I don't like this style of game, The story is really well written for a Jam/Compo game ^^

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 05:19

The game and storytelling is amazing. This is one of the best games so far.

nice!

joamd 2020-04-25 09:35

I played a lotta times, never won tho. At max i got 2 relics and lost in the end. Its a hard game but overall its good, maybe it could do with some hints and making it easier to win. Good random maps/graph :ok_hand: which algo did you use for it? Overall good game, interesting gameplay

jay-berlin 2020-04-25 13:14

Really interesting game, and has a good variety of encounters. Only thing I could suggest is to have your resources/money displayed on the dialog screens so you know what you have with you (for hiring people, etc.) Otherwise, great game that is fun to play. Hope you keep expanding on it.

ondrasej 2020-04-25 14:05

Great game. I loved the writing - just the right amount of text to give all the info, entertain, but not exhaust the players. It took me a good 10-15 trials to beat the game, but I didn't mind. Though the randomisation of the map (and the fact that one can't repeat encounters) makes it difficult if not impossible to always win.

limbo 2020-04-25 15:34

Quite cute experience, spiced with fable-like mood. But try next time use more readable font. And consider showcasing always supplies on the hud, so the player could make more informed decisions.

jimbly 2020-04-25 17:04

Would have been nice to be able to see my current gold when making decisions - I got attacked by bandits on my first turn, and had an option of "-200g", I didn't know if that was all, or nothing =).

Really enjoyed playing, but was awfully challenging. I played two games, and was not able to lift the curse -_-.

trigueiro 2020-04-26 02:22

Nice game. It reminded me of FTL was that intended or just coincidence? The most negative aspect in my opinion was the text font/background combo. It confused me and caused trouble reading but I am a bit tired so it might not even be that big of a problem

aditya-kumar 2020-04-26 08:02

@trigueiro The FTL similarity was not a coincidence. We drew inspiration from a lot of games, including FTL, renowned explorers, the yawhg, and even a DnD campaign I used to run.

aditya-kumar 2020-04-26 08:06

@joamd The map is the Delauney triangulation of a 2d point cloud generated by Poisson disk sampling. I kind of regret generating the map this way though. I explained why in our postmortem [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-dragons-curse/the-dragons-curse-ld46-postmortem)

frogravity 2020-04-26 12:39

Incredible game! One of my favorites thus far. The graphics are incredible, and I played it lots of times trying to find as many scenes as possible (my personal favorites were the 'unpleasant' chat and Geiger handling the revolution). There were some RNG problems, however: I never managed to find more than one relic and one time the map only had about 8 towns. In addition, I felt the tavern should've been more common, as the companions anyway have only a few scenes they interact with, and since the tavern was rare as well, it was very hard to find those. Other than that, great game!

trexxak 2020-04-26 18:45

Great artwork and very DnD-y gameplay :D I was happy to see that consequences weren't too harsh like I know them from these type of games, but instead forgiving if you don't choose to do something extremely ill-advised, and even then the game is so kind to remind you that you did an oopsie.

pietro-ferrantelli 2020-04-26 20:59

Fantastic entry, it has so much in it ! As a role playing games lover i especially loved it ! Great aesthetics and awesome storytelling, really happy to see this kind of game on Ludum Dare, really interesting ! It also has a lot of potential for post jam version I think some gamers would love to play this kind of game, congrats to the team :)

josephbyam 2020-04-26 22:06

I really enjoyed the artwork and audio. The decisions relevance wasn't always clear to me, but the more I played the more it made sense.

andrfw 2020-04-26 22:41

Digging the aesthetic. Would be cool to have some clue (but not absolute info) as to village type on the top screen, would spice up the decision making a bit.

splitpainter 2020-04-27 08:30

I can't believe how much content this has for a jam game. It's really involving and kept me hooked.

And you really knew how to sell the game with the uploaded cover image here in LD.

mykola 2020-04-27 19:20

Great story-telling and dialogues! Loved the art and sound and music fit well together. Very nice fantasy medieval mood. Great job!

thebreakfast 2020-04-27 19:54

Good dialogue, decent art, good music choice, everything works fine (although I did get some stuttering a few times). I couldn't find any of the artifacts though. I couldn't figure out how to use the magic detector after getting it.

bobost2 2020-04-28 17:34

The game has interesting artwork, but the game sometimes shutters. Nice job :D

aeveis 2020-04-29 07:02

took me a long time, but was eventually able to beat it. I really like how there are certain things you can unlock depending on what you do, but at times it does feel a bit too random (one time a small map spawned and winning wasn't possible). There are some things I didn't get a chance to figure out, like the weird contraption, but overall pretty cool. I like how some of the choices seem to have a different results. I was able to get two of the artifacts and buy the last one. nice job!

sibi 2020-04-29 16:59

Impressiive scope and writing for a jam game! I somehow managed to get my satchels into the negatives by buying a wagon I couldn't afford after burning my old one (woops). Really liked the mood that the game conveyed. For more replayability it would be great to have some icons or imagery together with the text. Reading all of it again can become quite boring even with this awesome writing style ;)

lazzydev72 2020-04-30 10:05

Love The ArtWork And Great Story telling. Keep it up

jontherealjon 2020-05-02 01:42

The writing was great, one of the best parts of the game; had me chuckling in certain points too.

I really like how you can bargain with villagers to gain things/mercenaries, I had the survivalist and I was very surprised to see that I could get out of the misty villager with her, I honestly didn't expect parts like that, my ast self is very stupid for not taking her earlier haha.

It took awhile for me to collect the relics, not sure how to find all of them consistently, but that may be me overlooking something.

The backgrounds were also very nice, they fit the medieval (I think that's what it is) aesthetic you guys were going for.

You guys did a great job with this game!

disperse 2020-05-02 02:05

Took us way, way, way, too long to beat this game. Finally got both the magic detector and the witches fire event to get 2 / 3 magic items. The art is great and the game is very well written. Good job!

zerohbeat 2020-05-04 12:21

Really cool game...but its really hard couldn't beat it. My dragon died :( . Thanks for the experience!

puppetmaster 2020-05-04 21:38

Very good mood and very nice drawn pictures.

It was really fun to play through the different story threads.

Keep it up, great game!

dane-tesla 2020-05-06 15:01

I'm a simple guy. When I see a game with a "dragon" in the title, I play. It was a great experience, following the story was quite interesting and challenging to find the perfect route. A good one!

frederika 2020-05-07 02:18

I really liked this game, although I wasn't able to save the dragon. I really liked the different encounters and I loved the art style.

matootsy 2020-05-07 04:41

This kind of game is not easy to make in a Jam, with lot of text dialogues to manage. Congratulation to the team! You have done it very well. The mood is very good and the graphics, even if it look always like the same town (But in a Jam we don't expect more) are nice. It is a promising game. I like the fact that you have to find your path from towns to towns with different stories.

very-dark-lord 2020-05-10 11:49

Splendid! Very well written, I'm not sure if I usually even like this kind of game, but this one was highly enjoyable, and surprisingly funny. Didn't beat it yet, but it's very intriguing. Also great fantasy music you've got there. Remarkably well done overall!
