LD46 — Keep it alive

Feed The Pillar by SaxOps1 2020-04-24T01:22:03Z

Cool idea! I think the decision making between gathering energy from wraiths or feeding the tower is an interesting one, and there is definitely room to expand, maybe different energy sources, other structures you can build with the acumulated energy, or potentially some enemies that you use energy to defeat. Great work!

MAKE A WISH - A Star Journey by MAYFury 2020-04-21T05:04:46Z

At first I was afraid of what abuse might occur with any form of text entry involving multiple players (im looking at you, league), but the beautiful pixel art and soothing music erased those doubts. Great work!

The Acolyte by Tattomoosa 2020-04-24T02:00:03Z

I loved the pixel art and the animated ending! I think I would have been even more engaged if there were different attack options and/or enemies. Amazing job overall and the mood is great!

Croze's Moving Castle by croze 2020-04-25T05:31:03Z

Hi Croze! I love the inspiration from Howl's Moving Castle! I wonder if it was actually possible to dash with logs? sometimes I'd throw the log, linger by it for a couple seconds, then dash, and it would move with me as if I had picked it up in the location I dashed to. Even if not intentional, I found it a cool hack to workaround the slow move speed when carrying a log. Excited to see where you take this project, as it seems like you have some cool features lined up in your postmortem to-do!

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-21T04:48:28Z

Phenomenal polish. Nail polish. Polish kielbasa. Feels like Framed with a Nitrome pixel-art aesthetic, both of which I adore.

SPECIAL MEAT for a special boy by LethalTurtle 2020-04-25T06:38:45Z

This game was super hard, but I loved the art style and the whole concept! The monster eats humans, and we are told that it only eats "special" meat. Hmmm, wonder where the "special" meat we are buying online is coming from... :open_mouth:

Also I second @fallingflatstudios idea to bring this to VR!

LAST HUMAN by GuitarBro 2020-04-23T05:54:42Z

I enjoyed this game more than I thought I would! The ambient music paired with the ryhtmic shooting was somehow very satisfying! I'm not sure if this is a bug but on my last play, I was able to clear all the rooms, but didn't find any new doorways or portal room. Maybe a glitch in the procedural generation? Doesn't detract anything from this game though, great work! :100:

Guilty Transplant by AntaresValdemar 2020-04-21T22:42:24Z

I love the cover art and this whole idea of sacrificing your other subjects to keep the best one alive. Somewhat morbid, but fun! I wish there were more patients to leech off of though, after several plays of looking through the rooms, I couldn't find any other patients besides the two who try to attack. Hope to see the lore you mentioned someday as well! Nice work!

Cursor by MiracL 2020-04-24T01:41:22Z

I loved the clean aesthetic over a unique bullet hell. Not sure if that scoreboard is updated live across all players, but if so, I scored 7th which I'm proud of haha. I think it's an interesting tradeoff to consider whether you want to multiply the cursor, or to focus all your attention on a single one, and eventually I found that multiplying is usually worth it~

(Quicksand is one of my favorite fonts, you guys have good taste! )

Overly Fragile Relationships by vilix64 2020-04-21T23:12:34Z

Very poignant game considering the current social situation! I have definitely had similar experiences irl before, thinking about which friends might get along, and also that awkward moment when you ask someone how their relationship has been going and the say that they've broken up :sob: Loved it!

Open Fire! by Amazura 2020-04-21T22:57:14Z

Cute pixel art, glad to see you didn't neglect the gameover, as I imagine most would easily beat this game with all four surviving. However, I find it kind of of defeats the purpose of the game if you can win with a single troop left. Also might be a bug that if your troops die, sometimes they still keep talking (maybe they are just resting on the floor? haha) Hope you end up turning this into someting more immersive, but good work!

NOAS by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2020-04-21T22:24:22Z

Yes! The futuristic minimal aesthetic gameplay paired with some cool anime characters is a great match. The female character's outfit really reminded me of Char from Gundam! I think it would be awesome to see more different types of projectile effects to spice things up! The way you implemented the theme was also very creative, needing to keep a guard alive in order to use their biometric data to access the door like in movies. Great job!

Chaincards by Federico Giorgi 2020-04-21T07:12:23Z

It's time to d-d-d-d-duel! Really creative use of 2D hand drawn sprites in a 3D environment. The card battling concept is fun and has a lot of potential for more different types of cards/decks. Great job!

(Also the poetic dying letter is a nice touch!)

Strazy Dazy by B. Golda 2020-04-21T05:39:01Z

I'm a big fan of rhythm games! I've worked on making some in the past and they are quite difficult so kudos for making one in such short time. I'm not sure I'm sold on the how you tied it to the theme though  , but otherwise, good work!

This is Fine by D5R 2020-04-23T06:06:23Z

I loved the attention to detail, from picking a similar font, to making the frames of the game resemble that of the comic's! Super cute, great puzzles, and the music choice fits perfectly! Bravo!

Backcourt Brawlers by Luther-1 2020-04-21T05:07:40Z

Great work! It has a fighting game feel, but with a refreshing sports theme. Glad to hear your improvement, as that's what counts!

Egg Drop by Bob174 2020-04-21T21:42:43Z

It was me, PIO! :hatched_chick:

I see this being a great party game, especially if you can have teammates to throw the egg to! The eggs breaking after falling once felt a bit strict though, maybe it only cracks a bit the first fall and breaks the second time? The music choice and sfx are spot on though! (cue the rubber chicken)

8-Bit of Farming by StinkyKitty 2020-04-21T06:41:09Z

Super cute floppy nose and relaxing game! As many before have pointed out, it is a bit slow, but that might be part of the charm for a farming game! I can see you taking it in the opposite direction and instead of speeding this up, making the growing take a day or two, and making the payoff bigger. Glad to see you responding to the feedback and nice work! :muscle:

Royal Decree by Furqaan 2020-04-25T06:01:04Z

Cute game! I think it would be good to make the controls more consistent by scrapping the mouse, and make dropping an item another key, or even the same key as picking up. Unfortunately I got softlocked in level 4 by the villagers in the right side where there's a house with a tiny fence and no gap between it and the right side of the screen. softlock.PNG Otherwise, I think you guys did a great job! :cake:

LYMPHOSITE by Saturnyoshi 2020-05-01T05:01:10Z

Amazing! The art was great, the sfx fit perfect, the music was superb, the variety of guns and enemies, and even bosses, oh my!

I do have a qualm, however. It feels as if little playtesting was put into this game. I say this because from the get-go one can feel how hard the game is. The player's projectiles feel sluggish in comparison to the green enemies; the Little Fellas, or currency, dropped too seldomly, and made it difficult to purchase anything; the damage output of the enemies seem much greater than the speed at which a player can defeat them. I totally understand if a game is intentially challenging, but at some point it ceases to be fun if its too hard, especially if the player isn't rewarded (able to purchase upgrades) for overcoming the difficulty. That being said, it is totally acceptable given that this was made during the jam, or, heck, maybe I'm just not good at top-down shooters.

But enough about that- the inclusion of randomly spawning secret rooms, the progress bar when you lose, and a whole freaking encyclopedia bring spectacular polish and overshadows any concerns I could ever have. Excellent work! :100:

Keep Earth Alive! by ivn 2020-05-03T00:21:08Z

Cute arcade game! Kudos for making it all in C!

Elementrees by Mathieu Semin 2020-04-23T06:47:32Z

The pixel art here is fantastic and I'm a fan of the four elements theme! I think there is definitely room for a story surrounding the trees and the player's role in protecting them. And maybe it's just me, but I didn't realize the bottom-right section was lightning until I read the description. Regardless, this was still a great game and I think you guys did a great job!

Prometheus by Nathan Dimmer 2020-04-21T05:45:54Z

Solid platformer that fits great with the theme. I enjoyed the cave-painting style art and pairing it with greek myth is an awesome idea. Well done!

Patty & the Cannon by hiisileiri 2020-04-21T05:59:12Z

Very cute egghead with a helmet! I think this game is deceptively simple, there's definitely more than meets the eye: the fact that Patty is actually protected from the projectile and falling boxes from the top, but dies if knocked over, and that the boxes are too heavy for Patty to push but the round projectiles can be used to push the boxes. For something of a backup game, great work!

Infermum by Brandon Gonzalez 2020-05-01T04:06:59Z

A hell of a game indeed! Although I'm not usually a fan of games that require players to interface through both the keyboard and mouse, I think that was utilized well as part of the challenge here, forcing players to decide between the multiple tasks. I think the tutorial level is great, but could maybe also be improved for clarity by splitting it up into more levels, each focusing on one task (ie. 1st level: typing to fill pentagram, 2nd level: collecting souls and feeding, and so on...) Overall a solid entry, and I loved the theme! :smiling_imp:

The Lightwielder - Ludum Dare 46 by 1StepCloser 2020-04-21T05:22:58Z

Beautiful pixel art. Loved herding the deer and shooting light birds and snakes. Now give it a narrative and some direction and you have yourself the full package. :metal:

Sparky's Joy by Danielle Schugars 2020-04-21T04:37:36Z

We had a similar idea when brainstorming for this theme! I love how you guys implemented it and the cute art. There is definitely potential here for building trickier puzzle levels!

Milk for A Dead Man (Web and Downloads Available) by Billnotic 2020-04-21T06:13:51Z

I can't believe this is your first game jam! Congrats! This is really well made and I loved everything about the theme (skeletons liking milk). Some I found I could bypass the 4th level without killing the bat so I'm not sure if I did that right, but amazing overall! :skull: :milk:

Keep her happiness alive by CokeJet 2020-04-21T06:52:23Z

I got run over by a car trying to bring a burger to my needy gf. 3 times.

This theme is hilarious and the floaty gameplay matches that perfectly. You've captured the infuriating feeling of a self-centered girlfriend in a fun game and I'm all for it! :joy:

Hikikomori Simulator by yeojoey 2020-04-23T02:15:59Z

week.PNG

@yeo-niki Wondering if I should be proud or concerned that I made it a week as a Hikikomori

Herblore by Rustywolf 2020-04-21T23:26:24Z

I'm getting serious Overcooked/Unrailed vibes! So stressful... but I loved it! I like how the plants can get sick too haha, looks like they need to learn some social distancing.

The only part about the game that sucked was the landlord!

Yakka by MidnightMist 2020-04-27T22:28:45Z

I loved that you guys took inspiration from your culture for this game. The art and music really complement the theme nicely and you successfully intrigued me to look up the Yakka/Yaksha spirits! I'm curious to know if there were any spirits with long tongues/or ones that store things in their mouths? Great job overall, and I can see this being fleshed out to have more puzzles and maybe even incorporate stories of specific/famous Yakkas!

Make it Count by Carson Bentley 2020-04-21T05:15:01Z

One of my first ideas after hearing the theme was Conway's game of life and although my team went a different direction, I'm really glad to see someone go with it. This is a simple but effective demonstration of the theme. Nice job!
