Gorgoeus hand drawn cutscenes.

dandala88 2020-04-20 05:01

Ok. I tried. Really tried. Rushed it the first few times and was like ok let me just take it slow. Well, that didn't help. The attack range is way to small and the fact that you stop when you attack makes it even worse. I wanted to finish it but the enemy attacks are almost impossible to dodge unless you are already moving when they fire. On the plus side - the gothic metal theme was super cool with the music and everything. The start(and end) screen was also very well done. I would love to see how it ends but I am not sure I have the patience. Maybe I'll try again later. It's not a bad entry, but man is it frustrating.

I love your title and death screens. I can really tell you put a lot of work and love into those because they are absolutely gorgeous. I also really like your really simple rift that plays on repeat I don't know anything about music but it sounds very metal to me which works well with the human sacrifices. It felt a little like sometimes the distance I needed to be to hit enemys was visually inconsistent but that might just be that I'm worse at video games right now because its midnight and I have been awake sixteen hours making\playing games so I can't really tell. Last thing I really loved that you can tell when your near a hungry hungry hole in the ground by the low rumble that it gives (also the scream sounds are pretty sweet).

TL;DR : You made a good game with great audio

tattomoosa 2020-04-20 05:16

@dandala88 There is a casting animation for a set amount of time before they attack, try watching their animations so you can be dodging sideways already before they fire. Maybe it's a bit too subtle. You're totally right that the player's attack is more finicky than it ought to be, though.

zimny11 2020-04-20 06:50

Just got an error "Cannot read property 'getParameter' of undefined" :(

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 06:52

The earth swallowing animation is hilarious  I think you can tweak the attack & grab a bit to make it more forgiving. It's hard to keep exact grab in the midst of battle, especially with 3-4 opponents around slinging projectile at you.

I reached 8 HP and died there. I will visit again to finish the game later

chambre19 2020-04-20 06:52

So, first of all. Great job. as an artist, I can really appreciate the work that went into the art and animations. there was definitely a lot of care put into it.

There could have been improvements of course. but most of what I encountered is already written by others in the comments above.

You have done well with this and you should be proud of what was accomplished in 48 hours. Keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing what you make next!

mincemeat 2020-04-20 06:57

Great work on the animations! I love the scream sounds as well. The walk distance to the first hole was a bit rough but I had fun and was pleasantly surprised with your victory scene.

evolving 2020-04-20 06:58

Realy cool cutscenes! The main mechanic looks a bit weired, but makes fun!

criggles 2020-04-20 07:03

Wow! What an amazing entry.

The art is fantastic, the music and overall mood of the game is really really nice. I love how weak you are when you first begin but quickly gain HP.

Amazing.

tattomoosa 2020-04-20 07:08

@zimny11 Do you have any more information about what caused that error? What were you doing when you got it? I haven't seen it before.

zimny11 2020-04-20 07:37

@tattomoosa I received this error on itch.io, as soon as the loading progress bar finished. It was only text that I posted in the previous comment, nothing more. The realoding of the website did not help.

jk5000 2020-04-20 07:47

An interesting and fun little game. I love both the music and the graphics. The gameplay is overall simple and fun, but I found it a bit difficult to hit and sometime drag the men. The best part of the game is the cool little story. Overall a good jam game. Well done.

week-of-the-agents 2020-04-20 10:53

Far above average pixel art, cool ambient music but very hard gameplay and battle mechanics with WASD.

verrazano 2020-04-20 21:57

I liked the game, I wish you had done more with the concept, maybe more enemies or abilities - but alas we are all constrained for time. Not much in the way of the theme in this game though. Also please remember to always bind multiple control options even if it's just wasd and arrow keys.

tattomoosa 2020-04-21 02:43

@verrazano I have patched in arrow key support (and game-pads, hopefully).

My intention re: the theme was that you have to keep the enemies alive until you can feed them to the hole, as well as the thematic idea that the evil was being kept alive by you feeding it. YMMV whether that was successful or not, but that was how I thought about it.

tattomoosa 2020-04-21 02:54

Thanks to everyone who has played it so far. I'm really grateful for so much positive feedback and especially glad y'all are liking the art. I put up a small patch that adds more input options, fixes a soft-lock, and makes the hit-boxes more forgiving. You still will have a hard time if you don't watch your enemies and move carefully though!

god-colo 2020-04-21 11:37

Nice Story

sklaiser 2020-04-24 00:24

Nice sprites and sfxs :D, i think the drag it could be a little faster :)

abyss 2020-04-24 02:00

I loved the pixel art and the animated ending! I think I would have been even more engaged if there were different attack options and/or enemies. Amazing job overall and the mood is great!

wtmk-bk 2020-04-24 03:32

The ending was really good. I like how you progress and the timer system is fun. At first i didn't realize the 2nd hole but then it was on.

silkworm-sweatshop 2020-04-24 14:20

Nice! I really like the sprite work and the kinda distorted lo-fi sound effects work really well. Feels like some really old school samples games used to have when they had just started using them (that scream is so good). The music fits as well and the cutscene animations are cool. The gameplay loop gets a bit repetitive but the game is short enough that it's not a huge problem.

fancypants 2020-04-27 17:00

I liked the art, especially in the cutscenes, and the overall mood of the game. The gameplay was a bit repetitive, though, and hitting the enemies felt a bit awkward. Nice entry, overall.

junber 2020-05-07 19:40

The graphics and especially the sound in this work really really well. I would have liked if the game encouraged me to explore the map more. There were I few cool places that I almost wouldn't have seen. This would have also made playing feel more varied. Though this isn't really a negative, just something that could have been even better. Great job on the game!

mehrdadsh 2020-05-09 12:09

daaaaamn, epic game, cool story, a little hard, but dammmmmmmn good

xdsilentstorm 2020-05-09 12:19

This is a very impressive and fun game!

yy404 2020-05-09 12:20

Great artwork and nice ending! The process of dragging probably could be more interesting.

wdebowicz 2020-05-09 12:21

I like the the art (especially the DEAD graphic if you lose), and hit animations. Music also makes a proper mood. Nice entry!

ava-skoog 2020-05-11 17:20

Those screams are horrifying! Felt so bad about what I was doing but I had to see it through to see if more story would be revealed and wow, what a cutscene! Very well animated. Good graphics and audio, just a bit of a chore doing the same thing so many times over and quite easy with the HP increasing all the time haha 😅 Good work!

ondraklus 2020-05-12 10:27

I loved falling it the hole animation so much! Music and the atmosphere was great, I really felt like an acolyte. The dragging was a bit tedious. But nice work!
