LD38 — A Small World

Turing Compete by Kaisean Games 2017-05-03T09:13:36Z

Quite hard to get this at first, but very enjoyable when you understand it. Maybe the game needs to be more intuitive, and help you in the proccess of making a machine that works. I kinda like that there's no compete mode, and the just let you be creative with the machine.

Not my kind of game, I must say, but I found it enjoyable and I had fun trying to make something that works (and I even made one, hah!). As far as I know, this kind of games have a lot of potential and there are some games like this on Steam, so you could improve and expand this, I'm sure a lot of people can find this interesting.

Command Ant Conquer by JuDelCo 2017-05-02T08:20:15Z

Played this game with a friend some days ago. It's cool to see a strategy game on a gamejam. The game feel of this game is really polished and everything works as it should. The game is really enjoyable, even better when you play with someone else, and it is easy to understand and play.

Great game! :)

U-Turn by benjamin 2017-05-02T09:46:13Z

Hey, I'm very impressed, I really like the game! I saw the game some days ago on twitter and I was wondering about it now. I really like the idea of the game, going back on the same level but a bit changed, with new hazards and enemies. It works really well. It can get a bit hard and tricky, but I guess there's the fun of the game. You die at one hit, but you preserve all the improvements.

Graphics are good, and you did some awesome things like the water, or even the menu screen. I like that kind of effects. Overall, really good game.

Mouse and Blade by superpokeunicorn 2017-05-03T09:01:12Z

Cute game :) I really like the graphics and music, they are simple but really well done. I like the variety of enemies too, kinda reminding me Megaman's enemies. I would like the game to has some more deep, and not a single level, but I get this was for the compo, so good job anyways. The game can be a bit hard sometimes, and the jump can get a bit tricky, but this is a good game, overall.

Planet04 by geck0 2017-05-03T09:27:23Z

Challenging game. The controls are a bit screwed up, specially the way the truck turns left and right. Maybe the time is too short to deliver for someone who is learning how to play the game, and the different delivery zones should be better explained, in my opinion.

But overall, good game, and good job!

NomNom by MaikelOrtega 2017-05-02T08:11:35Z

Played this one with some friends some days ago, and we had ton of fun :D this game is a lot better if you play it with someone else. The aesthetic of the game is fantastic, graphics are superb and the music is really great too. First puzzles are a bit easy, though.

Arindama by Daniel Moreno 2017-04-25T11:06:02Z

@jupiter-hadley thanks for making the video! I really enjoyed watching it :D

LD44 — Your life is currency

A Moment To Reflect by aeveis 2019-05-01T16:06:44Z

Graphics are absolutely beautiful, and I get it is a narrative experience, so it doesn't need to be a larger game (it is more like a interactive experience, I guess?). The way the text is show is really polished, but maybe a more readable font would be better. I'm not really sure how this fits the theme, but I'm probably not getting it and that's my fault, haha.

Good job!

Timezone by joemanaco 2019-05-01T14:56:15Z

Nice one, good job! The graphics kind of reminds me of Downwell (which is always good). The idea is great and it is a good example of an "easy to learn but difficult to master" game. Maybe the first minutes could be easier to get easily the hang of it.

Death's Favourite Marble by rhythmlynx 2019-05-02T07:49:18Z

I'm really bad at this... haha. Good job with the game. The 'difficulty curve' is quite exaggerated and it could have some more balance. The first part with the flying platforms is easy, but then the thin line is really difficult. The graphics could be better with some textures and effects, too. The movement feels responsive.

Developer Story by KonH 2019-05-01T15:27:16Z

Nice idea, well executed. I know now that I'm really bad at living, haha. Is there a way to know your health status? On the first playtrhough I wasn't sure what was going to happen to me, and I didn't it to happen again on my second one but I'm not sure what causes bad health.

Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno 2019-05-01T13:18:24Z

Damn! I'm really overwhelmed by all the positive feedback, you guys are amazing! :-)

I'm really glad you like the game! I'm gonna try to answer some things that you've telling me these days about the game:

1. Yup, I know the music can be repetitive, I'm not a musician myself and I know barely anything about music making, but I tried my best. 2. There is a bug if you try to play again and you've selected a temple to build. I'll try to fix it on a post-jam version. 3. Losing having a lot of cultists is not a bug, it is intended. You've to keep building temples to make room for everyone. 4. Not all the buildings gives you the same amount of cultists per second. That's the big difference between the fourth and fifth temple, even though they give you the same room.

I really like those screenshots of you finishing the game! hah :D

Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno 2019-05-02T20:15:32Z

@redmountainman1 You can! Right click when you've selected a temple to build to cancel it.

Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno 2019-05-03T06:02:06Z

@calzep you can cancel a build right-clicking. The controls are at the bottom of the game page.

Self Surgeon by chuckeles 2019-05-02T07:38:04Z

Good game, pretty solid and clever idea! My only complaint is that the levels could be better balanced, but I understand that this is a compo game and there's very little time to balance things on the game. The text on the HUD could have a black-ish stroke to be more readable.

But, overall, a really good job, and well executed game! :)

Ollo's Life by Memel06 2019-05-01T13:34:05Z

It's cool to see a GBStudio game made for this jam, as GBStudio is rather new. Good work! I played it with a GB emulator to give it the nearly-real feel :)

Necroxeon by Lyrcaxis 2019-05-02T12:56:03Z

Good game! I especially like the graphics and audio. As other people said, the game is quite unbalanced and needs more feedback on spells and when you're hit or you hit an enemy. Otherwise, you guys did a good job, and I get that balancing a jam game is really difficult and there's little time to do it.

Bora Bora Or Bust by WongKongPhooey 2019-05-01T13:41:04Z

Curious game, and a fun one! And nice to see a Pico-8 game made for the compo, not an easy task. The shop is a great addition to the game idea.

Nice work!

Life Path by kristinnes 2019-05-01T13:53:39Z

Really cool! Did several playthroughs to see different endings. Good job! I had a good time and the idea is clever and well executed.

Life for Likes by FM Studio 2019-05-02T07:32:25Z

Great and clever idea! This fits the theme perfectly. I like the graphics too, but maybe, they are too saturated, everything looks so vibrant and it could use some contrast. Good job, overall, I had real fun!

bird food by kyavi 2019-05-01T17:20:42Z

Clever idea! And well executed, too. My only 'grip' with the game, probably, was the kind-of difficult movement of the snake. As other people said, it's not easy to get used to it. But, overall, you did a good job, especially how you teach players how to play without any text at the first levels.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Pet Protecc TD by Ithildin 2020-04-23T10:35:36Z

Neat game! The mix between genres work really well. I like the graphics and the mechanic is easily understandable. My only (little) complain is that I didn't know I have activated the "build" mode when I tap a turret on the HUD. I know there's a sound, but it was a bit confusing as I didn't see anything changing on the screen until I moved the cursor to the game area.

Maybe, a way to let the player know that the pet hungry level is low, with a flashing text or something would be nice, too.

Great job overall, you made a great game here!

A-maze-ing Mess by Elendow 2020-04-24T09:06:04Z

One of my favorites of this jam so far. The simplicity of the graphics, the lighting and the well chosen music makes a perfect atmosphere for this game. The fish-eye lens effect is a nice touch, too. As others said, some variation for the rooms would be nice, if you plan to keep working on this game.

Please Stay on the Line by kleinzach 2020-04-23T19:42:24Z

First of all, congrats on doing a lot of consecutive LDs! That's really an achievement. You could try adding here some screenshots as you did on itchio so people will tend to play it more.

Great work on the lighting as others said, and good job on the atmosphere. I'm not a 'horror game' guy but this one was fun to play. Congrats!

The Tribe by Tommy 2020-04-23T19:55:44Z

Great game overall! I like the graphics, they could use a bit more color or contrast but they do the work. If you go for pixelart, maybe the HUD could be pixelart too, so it makes more sense. As others said, it can be a bit confusing at first, and there are maybe too many rules or too many things to do for a new player. This is exactly the kind of game that needs a step by step tutorial, but this is a jam game so I get that there's no time for that (just in case you want to keep working on it!).

Apocalyp Snow by keln 2020-04-21T18:37:46Z

Good job here! Great game, lovely graphics and music/sfx. Had real fun playing it, and when you get the hang of it, it gets really addicting.

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-29T16:54:45Z

@larsspawn it's made with Game Maker:Studio 2 :-)

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-05-01T11:00:48Z

@aryanjumani it's a permanent license, not just one year :)

Desktop Garden by 0x0 2020-04-21T17:41:17Z

What an awesome idea! It is really clever, and lovely graphics, full of details. I tested it on a quite old Windows machine and it ran a bit slow, but I guess it is my pc fault.

Tale of a Little Guardian by Morg 2020-04-24T08:18:44Z

I completely love the art, really aesthetically pleasing! I played the newer version, as I guess it is a bug fixing version, so I didn't get into many bugs as others said (good job on working on a post-LD version so fast, by the way!).

I played the Mac version, and I'm afraid the music & sfx were not playing, I didn't hear anything. I had the same problem as @mulberg, the font was small (dunno if it has to do with the Retina display?), but besides that, you guys did a really good job overall.

For Ducks' Sake by GaryS 2020-04-24T06:51:54Z

Great game! I'm always in if a game has ducks in it, heh. Fun game and easily understandable mechanic. Aiming was a bit odd as it only shoot in eight directions but aiming was with the mouse, so I thought the bullets would go that direction. Graphics are simply fantastic and I really felt sorry when I lost and saw the duck crying, hah. Music and sfx were great too.

I didn't have any collision issues as far as I know.

Outlet Hero by Omicron 2020-04-24T08:01:15Z

The game totally got me for the graphics, the style kinda reminds me of 'Megaman Legends' (which is always a good thing!). My feedback has been already said, the camera went into buildings sometimes and the level feels a bit long and repetitive (I don't mind having a shorter level for a jam game), but you guys did a good job overall, playing this was fun, instructions are clear and fits the theme.

Oh! And I really like the way the HUD is shown, it blends with the game.

Focus, kid! by Necromic 2020-04-21T18:17:04Z

Really enjoyable and polished game, lovely art style and fitting music and sfx. Overall, you guys made a really good job here, and it was a cool use of the theme.

Protect the Walnut! by Eduardo Yukio 2020-04-21T17:59:14Z

Hey, nice concept you got here! First of all, thanks for making it available for web as it makes testing a lot easier for others.

I like the mechanic, and it is enjoyable to read those little messages all over the levels, some are handy and some other set some humor to the game, which is cool. I liked the level design, too, you get to learn how to play without too much hassle. The moving and, specially, the jumping behaviour was a bit odd for me. It was difficult to control the character as he has some heavy friction while moving, and some jumps were quite difficult to get them done right.

Nice game overall, and that Walnut is, indeed, lovely with that bowtie, haha.

The man who watches the time pass by TPZombie 2020-04-21T20:42:10Z

What a touching story, I really like it. Art goes well with what you wanted to achieve here. Congratulations for this game, this is something I was not expecting for a jam (in a good way).

Keep chicks alive! by Sleeping Panda Games 2020-04-22T06:45:27Z

Hey, great game! You're basically speedrunning this game all the time, haha. I like the graphics and music, I'm curious about the decision to use the Nokia restrictions on here. As others said, I would like to see some more obstacles and hazards, but I get this is a jam game and there's not a lot of time.

The only complain I have is that some numbers of the countdown aren't very readable, as the six. The screen resolution is quite small so I get the font must be very small, but maybe giving it more size as the countdown is important would be a good idea.

Pogo by Motley 2020-04-23T09:03:42Z

Hey, this is quite a little hidden gem here!

I really liked it, simple and easily understandable mechanic and controls, cute graphics (oh, the giraffes!) and good progression, really important on this kind of games. I would like to try multiplayer at some time.

I don't really see how this fits on the "mood" category however, but you did a great job overall.

Medic! Keep'em Alive by Robert Li 2020-04-23T19:36:49Z

Nice concept you got here. Some soldiers spawn where I can't reach them. I really like the art style, but you're mixing different pixel dimensions/density (some pixels are bigger than others) and that can be seen as a little bit ugly, but maybe I'm just the one bothered by that, haha. Music sets the tone and is quite good!

Good job overall.

Terminal Charge by Gal Afik 2020-04-23T19:50:06Z

Great game! I know you didn't make the graphics but you made a good use of them! You've quite an eye for it. This is, indeed, one of my worst nightmares, so it was difficult to play (in a good way, haha). The idea and mechanic are clever and I really had fun playing it. As others said, it can be really hard, I guess the frustration is on purpose but maybe it could be more balanced.

Boid Survivor by Pumpkikin 2020-04-23T19:30:42Z

Hey! I'm not sure why, but I had to get the game out of my Downloads folder so they game could run (on Mac). The game run correctly on other folder. Hope it helps those with the Mac problem.

Great job you did here, the game was quite fun and entertaining, and fits the theme in a certain innovative way! Music was not playing for me, but I guess it has to do with those Mac problems.

Jump to Die! by C. Ryder 2020-04-21T17:48:38Z

Quite simple and straight to the point, good job! I was confused at first with controls, but I guess it is on me as I was testing it alone, heh.

Crates N' Gates by HireMeDeveloper 2020-04-23T10:25:16Z

Neat hidden gem we have here! The gameplay is great, I like the isometric graphics and they do the work. Music and sfx were a bit quiet, but set the tone.

Looks like the levels are procedurally generated or something? I like that, you can't just remember where are some things so it adds to the difficulty. My only complain about the game is that there are some empty boxes that seemed unfair to me, as you don't have no way to know that and they usually mean you will die. Maybe a way to know if a box is empty before, or no empty boxes at all, so you'll always get some reward for the time spent. Some love to the menu and the dead screen would be a nice touch too, but I get this is a jam game and there's not a lot of time for that.

But overall, you did a good job here, I really enjoyed trying to get a better score, and the game and mechanics are easily understandable.
