Really cool camera effect! Also love the sound design, especially on headphones

feverdream-tim 2020-04-20 23:30

Some really cute visuals for a fun little game

no-grapes-games 2020-04-21 09:14

This was a very well made game. The lighting effects were super! For some reason it was very intense for me! Running around trying to grab all the light I can! Maybe it was the music and claustrophobia that made it so? In any case great work I had fun playing this!

senokos 2020-04-21 09:35

Loved the overall design.

sadsmile 2020-04-21 16:36

The cmaera effect is nice and the audio was very moody. A little "healthbar" for the light or a map would have been handy tho

deathgaze 2020-04-21 16:50

I really liked this one. Cute design and great work with the light!

endymion 2020-04-21 17:24

Accidentally summoned an Old One. Hate it when that happens.. Nice Game!

egoregor 2020-04-21 17:29

Great mood, music and camera! I like your game!

tudvari 2020-04-21 18:03

> The cmaera effect is nice and the audio was very moody. A little “healthbar” for the light or a map would have been handy tho

This :D I felt pretty lost and claustrophobic. Which could be good in this game, but I was literally lost :D

ironpower 2020-04-21 18:08

Nice idea to mix pixel art and Shader effect, it's work sooo good. Very Good work.

elendow 2020-04-21 18:34

@tudvari @sadsmile being lost is the whole experience, I think that a map would get the fun out of exploring :(

But thanks for playing and for the feedback to everyone, much appreciated :D

albertnez 2020-04-21 21:06

Nice game. The immersion feeling in the darkness is so, so well achieved. I also liked the progression, how the items are unlocked and how it's explored.

Loved it!

dasilvacontin 2020-04-21 22:18

Won on my second try! On the first try I didn't realize I could get those torches until I randomly got one. On my second run, I honestly felt like I was just completely randomly (without memorizing the map, but getting a sense of where the middle was) and randomly stumbling into the books, maybe luckily leaving the keys in the order that had to be left, idk.

Graphically wise, impecable. Audio is good too.

It was fun! Great game!! 🤗

rustim 2020-04-22 09:23

What a fun little game! Had fun exploring around, and discovering the elements of the game as I went. It feels really tight as an experience overall. If you decide to keep polishing, maybe some sporadic objects in rooms to help get some sense of orientation. Overall great effort and very on theme.

fancy89 2020-04-22 09:34

That was AMAZING. Awesome graphic and camera effect, awesome mechanic and awesome mood and music. WELL DONE!!!

itey 2020-04-22 10:47

The music is super atmospheric, well done

pandepic 2020-04-22 12:12

Great atmosphere and creepy vibes from the lighting and weird camera effect. Nice graphics and sound. A bit hard to play because of the lack of a map (could be good to build up the map as you visit rooms or something to still promote exploration) and the lack of an easy way to tell what your torch level is or how much refilling it actually does (makes planning when to do it/not do it a bit of a guessing game). I still had a lot of fun though.

lapisraider 2020-04-22 13:23

Love the graphics and sound, really managed to give off that spooky vibes. Unfortunately I had a pretty bad memory so I often got lost and wander around the map in circles. I also really like how we can increase our lights by getting the torches in the room!

Great game!

the-brodevhood 2020-04-22 13:38

Really atmospheric and it uses a similir light mechanic we do! Cool camera effect too, nice game! <3

fullmontis 2020-04-22 16:54

An impressive game in its simplicity! I love exporating dungeons and I think this game really nailed that feeling in a perfect way. I like the fact that you have to trade keys for tomes when your inventory is full. I found it however very hard to navigate, since all the rooms look the same without anything to distinguish them besides the torches and the doors it is easy to think you've already been in a certain room when maybe it is a new place. I think just a little of additional flavor in the visuals of the rooms would make the game a lot more enjoyable to explore, as a sort of visual reward for finding new rooms.

Also, the shader you used for the game is very good, although I think the excessive curvature made me feel a little disoriented after a few minutes, but maybe it is just me.

Amazing job, overall!

alexandroskap 2020-04-22 18:57

liked the exploration part of this. Would be nice if it had more types of rooms or some random events to break the silence but I think Im asking too much from a ludum dare game :D

elendow 2020-04-22 19:04

@fullmontis I wanted to decorate the rooms to make them more unique but I run out of time, so I made rooms of different sizes, with different doors and torches. There are some rooms repeated, but the important ones are unique.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I'm very glad that you like the game :)

sodap 2020-04-22 23:30

Cute visuals, really good atmosphere and simple but interesting gameplay thanks to a huge maze full of intricate paths, that coupled with the inventory restriction and the keeping the torch alive mechanic creates a great spooky puzzle that is easy to pick up and gets to the point while incorporating the theme in way that is subtle but fundamental to the whole experience. Great job!

babyking 2020-04-23 03:23

I want to draw the level out so I can beat this thing. Thank you for nailing the exploration/ resource management/ puzzle energy that is this beauty game.

geri 2020-04-23 12:08

Nice game with a very simple but adictive mechanic

pieter-uys-fourie 2020-04-23 16:20

Fun maze game forcing you to keep track of rooms visited while exploring and rationing your fire as you go

kkrac 2020-04-24 02:32

I like the ambience! Simple but well executed mechanic.

daniel-moreno 2020-04-24 09:06

One of my favorites of this jam so far. The simplicity of the graphics, the lighting and the well chosen music makes a perfect atmosphere for this game. The fish-eye lens effect is a nice touch, too. As others said, some variation for the rooms would be nice, if you plan to keep working on this game.

ithildin 2020-04-25 01:56

After mapping the full layout on grid paper I managed to beat it!

Great atmosphere, pretty immersive even in WebGL if you ask me; not sure if you got to fix the colours as you'd mentioned in the post-mortem. The mechanic is simple, but the focus here is exploration, so it doesn't really need much more.

Perhaps the lack of threats (other than the flame dying and sending you to the start room) detracts a bit of the tension created by the eerie visuals and sound in the long run, but I remained determined to find all three grimoires.

Amazing entry!

I really enjoyed this one! Simple concept, and beautiful execution. The torch mechanic is great, and there are just enough in the maze to keep you going through without making it easy. Very nice balance, adorable pixel art. Only thing I did not enjoy was the piercing noises in the music.

Glad I managed to get all three grimoires!

ricargoes 2020-04-29 12:47

I liked the result, the art and music are really nice. The torch mechanic is fun and it can really get under your skin when you are running out of time. On the downside, to beat the game you have to have either a good memory or luck and I (personally) do not like to depend on either.

In any case, nice job!

lereveur 2020-05-01 18:32

I didn't made it to the end, I gave up after few deaths, still missing one book. Nice visual effect, wich is simple but really effective on reinforce the oppressive, urgeness mood. Good job!

2020-05-06 16:53

Nice graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/p2lUl96x8_U
