Crab It Alive! by Naca 2020-05-08T21:37:29Z
Really enjoyed graphics, palette and simplicity of controls. Interesting take as well. There was too much trash for me to handle, but I enjoyed playing. Great work!

Really enjoyed graphics, palette and simplicity of controls. Interesting take as well. There was too much trash for me to handle, but I enjoyed playing. Great work!
I am just stunned after playing. The amount of things you managed to put in the game is incredible, and I did not realized that I played for that long. You did such an amazing job. I love the art style, the story, having to balance reading and caring for the pet... What an emotional adventure. I really look forward for your longer version.
The only thing that bugged me a bit was the pixel ratio got a bit weird and uneven in full screen. Still, a minor detail for the impressive quality of the whole game.
PS : Managed to get a highscore of 18 at the squid mini-game!
Lovely concept, and execution.
I really enjoyed this one! Simple concept, and beautiful execution. The torch mechanic is great, and there are just enough in the maze to keep you going through without making it easy. Very nice balance, adorable pixel art. Only thing I did not enjoy was the piercing noises in the music.
Glad I managed to get all three grimoires!
It was a really great immersive experience, what a nice piece. Congrats on making such a gem. Love the pixel art, the sound design, the pace, the mechanics... Everything worked so well together.
A favorite. Concept is fantastic, everything very minimalistic and serving the mood. Great work!
Such a great game. It works super well. Concept is hilarious, graphics are adorable, impressive soundtrack makes for a great mood, sounds are a mix of cute and funny. Difficulty was just right. Loved it!!
Great concept! I had fun :) The mouse scroll wasn't working too well, skipping one topic (from 1 to 3, 3 to 5...), but the numbers were a better binding choice anyway! Dynamic audio is a very cool touch, the fading to black as well. You did a cool job. Manage to have a 4-minute party, yeeeah!
Hope you get your last ratings in time!!
PS : don't forget to give karma on feedback you received, and leave feedback on games you played! Will improve your chances.
One of my favorite LD game, I must say. The art and palette are so enjoyable... I absolutely adore it. Lovely story, good puzzles - though I got stuck looking for the tape since I didn't use right click until looking at that page again. Music makes for a great mood. Amazing work there!
The music is very enjoyable, and I absolutely love your little smiley planet gif.
I had a lot of fun! My day job is bioinformatics, I also do a lot of scientific communication, and would love to make games about biology such as this one. We need more science games in our lives! Really enjoyed the amount of information, naming of genes, and sources. Wonderful job!
Took me a while to manage the level 7 tricky move, but eventually managed to go through all levels! It was very enjoyable, with the right amount of difficulty, and a simple & efficient level design. Great entry!
This game is the best. I love everything in it. The idea, the art, the execution, the level design... perfectly on point. It feels great to control, and works well.
I don't know if it's a bug, or me not understanding everything that is happening, but some of myselves kept disappearing when they were supposed to be at key positions, so I had to record the same movements several times (especially for the 2 codes on the middle upper floor), but it was not too much of a hassle, because it was still a lot of fun to just jump around trying.
Totally flabbergasted. Amazing piece of work. Congrats on your entry!
Oui. oui.PNG
But more seriously : polished, fun, long & nice playtime for a jam, beautiful, macron, responsive, many different species and all of them are wonderful, suprisingly a story - and it works well... It's a really great piece.
Very nice game. I love the puzzle mechanic, and every animation is so cute. Would love to see a longer verson someday. Congrats on your wonderful entry!
Hee, finally had the time to sit down and try your game! Yey, fellow fesh-eating plant game  You got a nice embryo of a stealth puzzle game here - though am not entirely sure how mean the parent fishes are, never ran into a problem while playing. I liked the underwater visual trick, the colors and 3D models were really cohesive. Text is self-aware and knows, but yeah : wall of text isn't great (I know, am one to talk...) - there are certainly very fun ways you could deliver the same little story, in a later update. Additional advice : would be great to host the game on itch.io or somewhere else - easier to track!
Cool entry :)
The atmosphere of the game is really nice, and the art feels very polished. But like other mentionned, the game feels very slow, and the fact that we have to try a couple times, and that there are no easy way of restarting the level makes it tedious. I totally agree with the comment before me. The jump had to be a little too perfect to my taste, at times, too. There were some nice design ideas though, like the box that can be moved with the doors. Still, a solid entry. Good job.
PS : the keyboard controls are 100% thought for AZERTY keyboards & left hand only, and that also made it very difficult to adapt. Would have been nice to move with arrows and fill/empty with other two keys, for example
Adorable art, and super readable. Concept is simple, and straight to the point, as are the control, which is wonderful. Was nice to have a "hidden" endgame, too :) I had a hard time keeping the fire on, due to the fact that my little guy kept on throwing the log meters away instead of fueling the fire, it took me a while to figure out what triggered one or the other - even if it seemed obvious once I did - different keybinding for the two actions could be better, maybe.
Stumbled upon the post on handling a big team without it being chaos, and I was pretty curious to see what you made. Art is really nice and polished, and the music fits really well in both "worlds". Gameplay-wise, mechanics were a bit unresponsive at times. I kept facing invisible walls in the office, and it was difficult to go through the woods - sprint not working and freezing quite often (might be due to the web version). Still, an impressive piece of work.
Story-wise, you took on something very challenging, and I personnaly think it came out a bit short. Trying to tackle the subject of mental health in 72h is definitly risky, and while I applaud the attempt, I thought it was somewhat clumsy. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, and playing the game made me more and more unconfortable as I continued playing - to the point I even got a bit angry and anxious. While it is true that even the most minor thing can trigger one, I disliked the shortcut of the character not being able to go through a single thing and blacking-out all the time to serve the gameplay. It is just a very personal opinion, not really well explained, and maybe it just isn't a game to be played by people who do suffer from anxiety/PAs, but I thought I would share it nonetheless.
@silas-reinagel It took me quite a while to try to think about it, and the thing that bothered me were not at all related to the gameplay or weird collisions - it's a gamejam after all -, it really was chosing this subject in the context of Ludum Dare. You have a short amount of time, so if you don't already know the subject well enough already, you can't spend it on researching how to tackle it properly - and it goes for any subject, really, but some more than others. Then, most people don't take the time to properly play (it actually shows a bit in certain comments, that's a whole other story), meaning they don't try to read between the lines, and can interpret things not in the way you intended, especially if the subject was clumsily brought to them - it's very easy to draw bad conclusions. I have talked to several good friends, including game devs with a lot more experience than me, and we always come to the same conclusion : it's better not to talk about something than talk about it poorly. Benevolent but clumsy intentions don't do any good to a widely misunderstood serious theme. Again, it's nice to want to start a conversation, but it must be done well - Celeste for instance, and it took time to make -, because the fallout could actually cause more harm to the matter, even if you did not want nor expect it.
The only clear advices I could give might be : 1. Make the story more.. blurry? Leave things to the interpretation. Don't say "this is pills", "this is humiliation", "those are blackouts and panic attacks", etc. 2. Have a more balanced life "cycle", not three seconds in the office then everything in the forest - it can be interesting to have two very differently paced gamephases, would serve the story and subject at hand better too. The dark forest as headspace with darkness closing in isn't a bad metaphor, either.
I really dig the concept! The sprites were quite lovely, and music very soothing. Could not survivre two weeks of double damage in a row, but I enjoyed my time in the castle while it lasted.
Definitely one of my favorite games. Easy to pick up, smooth, juicy, engaging dynamic music, great feedback, superb palette and cool minimalistic art style... and POOP BOOSTS. It just feels amazing playing, and you keep wanting to try again and achieve better. Loved it! You did a fantastic job.
Really enjoyed playing. The art is beautiful, and it was nice to find out where elements were, and when to use them. Clever instructions, too. I was just a bit confused by the Holy Water being purple, when a black serum was demanded.
Spotted a bit of French in the crafted objects description
I actually quite liked the story and meta-puns. Dialog box was smooth and looked nice, nice addition of colors to words. Art was quite nice and polished, didn't need more to it. The mechanics and gameplay were really intuitive and fun, and the music such a good fit it almost looked like a rythm game at times. Playtime was pretty confortable too. Then, well, I was clearly expecting the ending, and it still annoyed me really much since there was no way of dodging - even more so because it just happened that NumLock got deactivated on startup after that shutdown, and it took me several attempts of typing my password and rising anxiety to figure it out (which is clearly my own fault and not the game's).
Very nice compo entry, well done!
Apart from some gameplay and level designe issues, it's a nice little game! The art is cute, the music well fitting and relaxing. I enjoyed playing through. Like some other mentionned, you could make a quite nice post-jam update to make it complete.
Little things that could be improved to make it more fun : - **Key bindings information in game** would be nice. I came from itch.io, and couldn't figure out the inventory at all, even after trying every key. - **Looping music** between days? The last track is beautiful, a shame it goes silent when going home. - **Key for inventory items**. Using mouse seemed really counter-intuitive at first, even if I got used to it, could be nice. Or maybe mouse scrolling. Drag-and-drop, while efficient in the end, doesn't really fit the style imo. - **Longer days**. It takes a while to go from on point of the island back to the boat, and that's okay. But the time passes very fast, and it takes *forever* to chop down a tree. Considering the amount of trees... - if not longer days, **faster tree chopping**. It took me far too many days to cut all the trees. - **Less seeds** or **more tree planting**. A bit of a shame we cannot plant tree wherever we want, but understandable. I had gathered more than 3 stacks of seeds by the end, and only used a very low amount. (If more tree planting, and not longer days, maybe shorten watering too?) - It took me a while to figure out that the watercan was actually not for **waterings and growing the flowers**. Could be a nice addition! - **Endgame**. It was enjoyable that the world evolved as days went by, but a bit of a disappointement that nothing happened when every task was completed.
I noticed two places where a patch of grass is missing, I think : to the north, and to the far east. Untitled.png
I agree with above  Very catchy tune. Art and sound design are well done. Hand doesn't always respond too well. I am terrible at the game though, and thus didn't have a lot of fun - it's not for me, but still is a great jam entry.
Great game! Really enjoyed playing. Dark mood with great music, sound design and art. You put such variety in the buildings, and even added voice acting, it's a really impressive and polished work. One of my favorites!
I love it! The fact that you even made different countries to chose from is so cool. The little tasks to complete are fun and diverse, difficulty is progressive just as it should. I kept losing because I couldn't click on one of the objective at the bottom of the UK, sadly - might be that the UI is above it ?
Very nicely done!!
Yey, made it ! Good job with the creepy atmosphere. While I did not enjoy the sound of my char walking, nor the werid beepy sounds of the enemies, the art was great, and background music perfect to set the mood. The design of the enemies was especially great, I tried to have one stuck behind a shelf for a while to admire it ahah. Batteries were just big and colorful enough to be not too easy nor too hard to spot, and auto pick-up had just the right detection size :ok_hand:
Loved it!! Am such a big fan of this genre. Big Portal and Stanley Parable vibes. Beautifully executed. Really enjoyed the story, and attention to details. The cubes in the maze hiding the flashlight made it a bit tricky, even if doable.
I made Gill happy! Yey! Really enjoyed playing. Nice music, fine gameplay, humourous situation. Great entry. Only bit that was confusing is the fact that 1 happy actually equals half a smiley face.
This is so well made... loved it. Beautiful example of story-telling in only few words. I played without looking at the tutorial and everything was intuitive and could be understood straight away with what was drawn / the discret UI. The art is fantastic, and music was relaxing, it made for a wonderful experience. Amazing job on this.
PS : It would be great to add your screenshots and text on the Itch.io page as well :)
I love it!! It makes me really nostalgic too, because it reminds me of the card game "set", I used to play a lot with my family. The idea of raccoons having small talk is super funny in itself. Very nice take on the theme  Managed to score 26!
Aaah, finally got the time to try your game out! First of all, I have to say I love the name of the downloaded executable :joy: Am happy you're planning to make a full game out of it, btw.
Art looks stunning, the palette is superb, and the animations beautiful (that peeing wolf, damn), sound design is on point, and the bear lullabies always sound great. I absolutely love everything about it. The gameplay is very enjoyable too.
There were a few annoying bugs with the v1.0, but they seem to have been fixed. Just in case, I'll list some I experienced : shift key not triggering minor note, game not starting after clicking begin (and "part 1" hamging in the air), menu unreadable when opened on credit scene.
I am *TERRIBLE* at such game, but I love it. Music and graphics contribute to that bubbly cheerful mood, and you just keep wanting to try again. Great wooork!
Only thing is Z seemed a bit weird and too close to space bar for my own taste on a QWERTY keyboard. PS : fullscreen in browser was very laggy (27"), but normal size was just perfect.
Straightforward mechanic and easy to pick up. I dig the idea - wasps are horrendous. Music was a good fit. The color choice / contrast made it really hard to focus, keep my eyes on the screen, and actually catch holes in the honeycomb. Good job nonetheless!
Pixel art and color palette are great, though a stronger contrast between the red brick background and beige platforms could be nice, to perfect it. The animation of the soap and viruses are really nice as well. Music is a great fit, and it was fun to collect toilet paper rolls. The controls werided me out a bit at first, but it worked well, and the gamefeel was good - nice touch with the little bit of aim help when shooting while jumping. Cool entry!
Had a bit of an annoying bug on my first try, the checkpoint didn't activate and I had to start all the way back,
The audio is wonderful, and the art style adorable. The throwing fish mechanic was a fun touch too.
As much as I wanted to enjoy the game, it fell short on the gamefeel for me, and made it difficult to like. Moving, jumping, sliding, even more so wall jumping, are too tedious. It doesn't react nicely, and feels weird. The speed at which you rise and fall during the jump is not quite right either. The browser playable version was unplayable for me, the downable version was a bit better. Added to the fact that you only have one life, and need to start all over again made me give up after 4 tries. Making a nice gamefeel is the most difficult aspect of a dynamic platformer like this, so I still admire the effort. It will need a bit of tweaking, but I think it is quite promising!
The art is wonderful, and it goes beautifully with the Debussy. I agree with @mcbeutelwolf for the flaoty jump and difficulty with certain platforms. A possibility to only restart the current level would have been nice.
Very nice entry

Saw the timelapse posted, and was very curious to look at the growing bansai mechanics. Am not disappointed, it's very impressive. The graphics are adorable, and music very relaxing. Managed to do all shapes between 83 and 92 percents! Only thing that I found weird was the silence when swithcing plants. The save is a very welcoming feature too, I am keeping the link handy.
Amazing work on your entry, loved it.
Great graphics, and cool base concept. My camera was at the top of a building right from the start everytime, so I couldn't see a thing and made it a bit confusing at first. Was reaaaally hard to get see a thing between tall buildings. It would have been easier to control movement with keyboard and camera with mouse, not everything with mouse, especially when we have tu run away / hide and rotate the view quickly.
I managed to survive 57 seconds at some point! No energy left, and copper got to me. Appart from the camera issue, everything was smooth, and I quite enjoyed playing.
The game is just perfect.
Nice graphics and animation, sounds are really cute. The puzzle were quite good too.
I just got stuck at one point : manage to have the chicks unblock it once, twice, but not the third time.
Capture.PNG
I don't really know where to begin after playing... am a bit at a loss for words. Loved the pixel art style, palette was pleasing, animations well done. Really good graphics. The music was nice as well - just the sound made during cooking time was a bit too loud and sharp. Gameplay intuitive and comfortable.
Then there's the story. The choice you went for in the current situation seems quite horrendous to be honest, and my teeth were gritting all the way. Going too far on many many occasions. I see couple comments saying they liked the humour, I have no idea where there even was humour. Story made no sense at times, contradicting itself. Starts off saying my family is starving, I go grocery shopping, then it says my family *might* be hungry. My family was dead, no reactions at all from me, yet they still thanked me for the meal I cooked?! And then story goes on talking about them as if they were alive. Everyone has a name except my wife?! Ran into a bothersome issue several times were the text would skip on its own, and I couldn't even read. Like at the end, I have no idea what happened, but everyone was dead apparently. And these are just a few of the things I thought were a big no-no. I really disliked playing.
Am impressed at the amount of content you managed to put together, though. There were couple great gameplay ideas, like dodging people downtown, and interacting with neighbours.
Fun game! Liked the reference at the end :D Really cool art style, fun concept. Played on normal, bit too easy to get rid of enemies : take door, go forward, everyone dies. Only thing that really lacked was more diversity in the levels - felt like it was pretty much 3-4 different rooms repeating through all levels.
Was quite fun! I am terrible at controlling Ponk, though. I join the idea about some kind of wall/border around the first levels, to show we can't fall off... yet
Very intuitive, responsive, fun to play, challengin, good audio, good color choice and contrasts. Was a very nice game to play.
The title screen already had me. The IG art is wonderful too. Simple, yet elegant. Created the mood perfectly along the music. I liked the concept, but it was a bit too slow to be enjoyable for more then couple stories, and I didn't have the patience to go up to 20. It would have been nice to understand directly from the UI that replaying would change something, and not get the info from the description. Little bug here : the music started late everytime I had to "sing" a verse to the audience - don't know if it's due to being a browser game.
Would love to see more to this game. Great job there.
Woohoo!
dfwe.png
The couple IT advices were quite fun. Nice sprites and animations. Pleasant music that fit well. It got a bit too repetitive and exhausting to keep up at one point, so I may have let go in order to go to bed :p
Great work there!
Beautiful art, very cool dynamic music, nice idea. Am terrible at the game, yet it was an enjoyable ride. Hard to keep track of the ship's status and where's you are going, but it's part of the fun - I personnally would have been fine with just maintaining the ship, would have loved to have someone other that one of my cats next to me to control the ship and make it a 2P ship co-op-ish game (if someone tries, let me know how fun it is, and if you go any further, am curious).
The unpleasant bit was the amount of text on the intro explanation, though x) However, might just be me that wanted to play and wasn't in the mood to read, to be honest.
Great entry, congrats team!
I am terrible, and thus couldn't go past the second level, but I enjoyed playing. The characters are adorable, I must say. Congrats on making this, it's a hidden little gem.
What I struggled with the most is the lack of fullscreen mode, I had to squint really hard to play, and everthing was going so fast in all directions. It was hard to keep track of the egg, yet alone the alchemist.
Such a shame this game doesn't have more ratings! My tired eyes struggled a bit with the very fast rotations and full white screen when delivering the fatal blow, but it was still extremly cute and fun to play. Lovely idea. Loved the different bosses and giggled at the ending. One thing I have to add : I expected from the gifs for the game to be fast-paced, and readied my reflexes, but was hit with the slow intro dialog, would have been cool to speed it up by cliking, or delivering faster!
Long story short : am satisfied.
Took me a bit of time to get a hold of the control, even with the tutorial. Was a bit confusing that the attraction gun and canons had the same particle sprite. Other than that, once I got it, it was great! Very nice art, crisp UI, original mechanic.
Really loved playing. I still have the music playing in my head, it was great. The art was very readable and enjoyable. Got stuck at the level with the two rotating saws, I managed to reach the last canon once, but then ran out of energy before the final jump. Very nice entry!
What a polished game, and nice concept! I love the huge variety in modules you have here, and the music/sounds fit perfectly. The gap in difficulty between the very easy (and as such a bit too long) first level, and the second (that can be far too hard depending on RNG) was a bit too overwhelming to my taste, and I sadly only managed to get to day 3. I can't even begin to imagine what day 7 looks like - but am very curious. I had a bit of a hard time figuring out what to do with some numpads modules, also.
With a bit of adjusting, this is definitely a game I would love to play more of. Great work!
The mood you created is fantastic. The palette and art are beautiful. Music simple and repetitive, yet never annoying. The voice acting adds so much too, and I enjoyed the concept of clues delivered that way. When it came to the gameplay, it was a bit lacking to me : draging the bodies all the way, same path everytime. Shortcuts and dropping bodies from windows would have been quite nice. Loved it nonetheless, wonderful job you did. Congrats on this piece of art, hope you'll make an enhanced version at some point!
I liked the core idea of the rythm mechanic, and the fact that the pitch followed the gameplay, but the audio was not pleasing to my ears - which was an interesting experience, since I tend to want to play rythm games for their good music. Polished strong and well-executed art, even if not my cup of tea.
Some levels were a bit too hard (pixel perfect throw, I imagine), that's the only thing. The art is just wonderful, story makes sense however you connect the dots, music contributes perfectly to that strange nostalgia feeling, ending is very strong - even more so with the loop restarting. Amazing entry.
This was a beautiful experience <3 There are some minor issues, like spelling errors, or the resolution of the game not exactly right, with the last topic cut out when talking to Ms G. A highlight of the text when you select it would be a nice polishing touch. This game hits very close to home. You tackled the subject with such a kind touch, the conversations are lifting and just what they should be.
I am so very glad to have played. Thank you for making this wonderful little thing.
Like other said, it took me a while to figure out what to do with the interactions (wife, menus...), also that only the tip of the finger worked for clicking on answers to give. It was interesting! Really like the concept of trying to balance everything and actually having to read things and not pretend to. Very cool what you did in such a short time!
One of my favorite games <3 Palette and art are SO ADORABLE. Controls feel very comfortable, and the whole little story is so meta :') Looks very polished too. Fantastic entry.
For some reason left was bind to the Q key, but I had a great couple PEW-PEW afterwards.
Had a lot of fun. That squeeze, daaamn  Really liked your version of the classic. It's simple yet challenging, works perfectly, has infinite replayability... Superb. Lost at round 9, my brain got too slow for the countdown - sleep-deprivation, my fault.
PS : uncheck "Fullscreen button" in the itch.io Embed frame options, it adds a non-working one on top of the integrated WebGL build one.
My favorite things about this : palette, art, MUSHROOMS. Had a lot of fun, even if I got the terrible score of 366. Difficulty is super well balanced, punishing the player for trying to grow a shroom in the wrong place is definitely a great idea. Amazing job.
Absolutely love it. Haven't beaten the game yet, am definitely gonna continue trying ! Almost got to the 4th upgrade, but I am quite bad at dodging bullets  Your art style is awesome, and the game feels super polished. Amazing job!
I absolutely loved the art, it's beautiful. The game mechanics were very enjoyable, the balance of difficulty & time required to beat the game on point, and the music pleasing.
Wonderful entry, popularity well deserved. Great work!
Brillant ! Love the idea and name. Super cool job on the crowd. Customization was definitely a nice little touch too.
It got a bit out of hand on my second run, my rival got stuck and I ended up converting almost everyone : it was **GREAT**. Capture.PNG
Oh wow. What an emotional story. Really got to me. Your pixel art is fantastic, am completly astonished by the variety in backgrounds, and the smoothness of the animation. Your ambiant sound gives just the perfect amount of context. The only thing that didn't work well was the jump. You did a fabulous job, congrats.
Funny ride ! Really liked the idea. It took me a bit of time to understand the control, but gameplay was nice. Very impressed at the fact you built multiplayer in! Great job.
Sorry Snowball, you ended up drowning one too many times, and I could not pump your lil heart in time...
I surviveeed! Well, with only one dino since medieval age, but erm... that still counts. The art is so freaking adorable, and their tiny hats was the cherry on top.
Simple and efficient. I liked the cute art, and the fact that you were able to create such a big map & such a variety of assets for different environements! Nicely executed.
I had a blast! I died at the bit where there are toooons of enemies, my baby got stuck and starved. Sad day. Not sure if it's a bug, but it didn't show my score. I imagine baby starving makes the score fall down to 0? Great job there :)
Like previous comment, I skipped the text at the start because I thought clicking would make it appear faster.
It was a weird game, and it was also a great game. Couldn't go past level 4, but I had a lot of fun. Amazing work. Good keybinding choices, nicely increasing difficulty, fun story. I crave me some n̢̛͎̠̲̬̫͐͆̍͊͟͠ȗ̷̗̺̻̫͚̔͊͌̇̋͘͘̚ͅg̷̫͍͙̼͙̪͇̦̼̙̽͌̈̇̈́͝ḡ̡͖̜͙̬͈͙͚̿̒̌́̈́ȩ̨̛̦̻̊̅̎̐̎̀̒̓̀͟t̴̡̛̹̫̝̟̩̪̫̋̍́̊̾̇̔̉́s̵̡̮̲͙̳̑͋̑͋̚̚͞ͅ now...
PIOU.PNG My baby chick lives on!
Art is just amazing, am stunned. At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to protect the chick, so I went on by myself just to admire the scenery. The sounds are fantastic, probably my second favorite thing in the game, after the pixel art. "Piou!"
Very polished, beautiful graphics, good puzzles. Didn't take me long to pick up on what to do, without the need of further explanation. I enjoyed the attention to details, such as the rock on the neon sign making a broken glass sound. And the artstyle... it's beautiful, I absolutely adore it. Great job, can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Little bug : at the end, when doing the victory pose, I pressed an arrow key, resulting in the little guy moving with no animation, and triggering the walking sound during the rest of the end cinematic.
@petrifiedapple Hi there! I managed the general team, and we subdivided in smaller teams (dev / sound / art / story). We had one brainstorming session with everyone sharing ideas on what the game would be, and went to work. Each dev had specific parts of the code to take care of. We used trello and communication between sub-teams a lot. Was really a matter of having a list of requirements down, one team asking another for this and that, and sticking to it. Most of us had worked together previously, and we all adapted to one another. It actually went pretty smoothly.
@kc-shiftyyy Thanks for the feedback! For the lack of animation, as always, I spent faaar too much time on the first few elements, then ended up rushing the rest.
Our polishing backlog on trello has quite a long list of things we wanted to improve, but it'll have to wait for after the ratings.
@madebychaz Thank you very much for the detailed feedback! We initially set to do the game in 48h and use the last 24 to polish, but it was a bit too ambitious, even more so since we still enjoyed breaks and *almost* regular nights. A few points you mentionned were indeed on our list, with lower priorities, and we ran out of time before getting there. It'll be in the works for later, once ratings are over :)
I am actually honestly surprised to get so many reactions on our number! We coordinated nicely, and it felt very normal. Very lucky to have gathered such cool people together, and that we decided on what idea to go for in just above an hour.
@heiach @jake-marks Hi there! Thank you for trying the game. The inventory system so far isn't useable per se, the right dialog will trigger as long as you have the object on you.
@antti-haavikko Thank you so much for the amazingly detailed feedback!
When it comes to Kaz, the idea was never really to make him likeable or not. He ended up accepting he had to do this, and just does. And so does the player. I like the idea of people playing through actually disliking him, the game then definitely is a different experience. Very sorry if you felt it was bland! There are actually 2 lines about his hand in the game, for it to stay a detail that would stay a bit obscure.
I totally agree with the wall of text. We sadly were running out of time, and had to put couple things together very quickly, including intro and credits. Same goes for the highlights of objects, it was a work-around since I did not have the time to export each object as a seperate element, neither did the dev for putting everything back together in Unity. Using items was also one of the things we did not manage to put in the game. Butcher shop was left as a hidden "easter egg" - not yet drawn. It's on the list for post-jam polish, though. We'll hopefully be able to fix these issues and make the game like we imagined it. Maybe even adding more to the story.
The only repeating conversation is with the girl at the bar, all other conversations with useful NPCs are different right off the bat if you do have the correct object. Great idea for the shorter version, thanks!
There were several rounds of proofreading. Sadly, there are always some things that fall through the net ._.
Cheers!
@ilikescifi Oh my, thank you so much. It means a lot. Some of us work on projects together from time to time, it's definitely not the last from us! Four of us made [\ kūl† \](https://jmad.itch.io/kult) for another jam, for example - that's the only other story-based and somewhat finished game I have in store for now. We do intend to push Consequences of Gardening further, though! :3
@thedouche This *might* just actually be happening. We already have ideas for improving and polishing what's already there, and add to it. I'll try to post some news on here, but best to follow the game page if you want to catch a future update!
---
I didn't quite answer every single one of you personnally, but thank you so much for all the feedbacks. I am completly overwhelmed. Glad to have such a wonderful first LD experience :purple_heart: Everything said here has been taken into account for the possible future of the game.
@sageware Thank you for playing! :) For it to make more sense, we still need to implement a working inventory, where player has to actually use the items on something to trigger the story. A little hint for that one : Kaz is a bit weird, and would not lie about his computer being broken.
Very nice idea, had a lot of fun throwing thing all over the place and scaring my coworkers.
Character design, palette and animations were great! Looked really polished. The sound really set a dark creepy mood, good job there too.
I found the level design a bit weird, the character are slow and the ladders very long, I did not understand what was triggering what, and I had no idea what to do with the crow, and the 'jumpscare' death felt out of place. Still, there is potential. The fact that you cannot go back the other way when playing as the girl on the ladder made some levels very linear.
Must. Collect. ALL THE CATS.
Was a bit hard to keep up the pace, but I enjoyed playing! Cool minimalistic art.
The art is so aesthetic, from the simple animation to the choice of color : loving it! I can't last more than three day, but I loved playing, and started over many times. Amazing job there!!
Very nice entry! Am not always a fan of runners, but this one has a touch of humour and sprites that make it quite appealing. Only thing that might lack is more variety in the grater patterns, maybe also an increasing number of them as time passes.
I dig the concept! Survived for 1024 seconds (kinda let it happen after the 1000 milestone). The art style is adorable and the idea of feeding the organs etc. I was a bit annoyed by the end of platforms (falling because of the rounded edge), some jumps were somewhat tedious, especially the one on top of the right lung (so the one on the left), and I often got stuck in corners here and there. Great work! Would love to see some increasing difficulty, and a full body with more organs to feed, someday :D
Loved the art, loved the idea - we also went for a flesh eating plant :smirk: Art and music created a really great mood, and the eating animation was just what it needed to be : impactful and contrasting with the rest. I almost reached the final form after several tries, but gave up in the end. Not sure if it's just the web verson, encoutered couple frustrating issues : - opening window not working, had to be in a very precise space, not just in front of it - sometimes when getting to an object, pressing space would teleport the last object I held to my hand - watercan not watering
The needs are going down rather quickly, might be nice to have an easier mode for accessibility.
Overall a wonderful entry.
PS : uncheck “Fullscreen button” in the itch.io Embed frame options, it adds a non-working one on top of the integrated WebGL build one
Catchy tune, makes you want to continue the keep the party alive indeed ! Simple, to the point, very nice work.
Started the experience really surprised, as I did not need to follow all the steps to play : I just clicked on the download file link, and it opened the game - which is good, but also threw me off quite a bit (is my web browser sentient?).
Played through twice. Lost my life to a terrible glue accident, only to learn from my mistake. I got caught in a loop of eating spam, philosophing about spam, thinking I could escape reality... and in the end, I became a successful ad-plagued social media for old people company. Am an all star.
It was great. I had a blast playing, and will definitely try to get different endings later. Great writing, great content, absolutely loved it.
Very nice take on the theme! I like the gameplay, and feel. Managed to score 1350, woohoo :raised_hands: The BSOD completly destroyed my eardrums, though. Might be nice to turn it down, or advise people against headphones, or telling us to turn the volume down.
What a needy boss!
I really love the art, color palette and mood :purple_heart: The story was really moving, and game mechanics interesting. Took me couple tries to figure things out, too bad the game has to be launched again. Favorite LD46 game I played so far :)
Got two different endings !
Interesting take of the tower defense / FPS! Impressive polishness for 72h.
Looks really great, and interesting concept. Quite enjoyed that 8bit version of Breakbot - Baby I'm yours. First time, ran into a fatal error clicking the (i) with no more profiles. Second time, opening the profile of the last person showed the profile of the girl just before. At first, messages took forever to pop up, third time worked well for some time though. Conversation still ended in a fatal error at one point, guy wouldn't type anything anymore, the screen jumped to the list of messages, a bunch popped up really rapidly, and bam.
Little issue when having a conversation for more than the lenght of th screen :

Despite the bugs, was a nice ride! You even reminded me of that one anime I watched years ago.
It was so fun to play bro.
I liked what you managed to put in the game so far, even if you have ideas to add to it. For some reason it reminded me of myst a lot. Gameplay serves the story, and it works well. Art is really nice. I was stuck at the date guessing and could not finish, the game kept on rejecting "31" saying it was already a date I put, when it wasn't. Great work there.
Coucou les coupaingggs ! (feedback en anglais pour etre propre)
Great things : - Unusual art style, fresh and original, works really well for the snow setting - Very good ambiant music, fits super well, sets the mood just right - Super responsive jump, all hail. - Good level design mostly : no pixel perfect jump like many tend to try (spoiler alert, pixel perfect jump are never good) - Me likeh - There's a guy called Fred Bob
Issues : - ctrl is not a good choice for an action keybind (and it's so very unatural to mash), E or F are better fits - not being able to turn while airborn, thus being stuck in place if facing opposite direction - not enough contrast between lower platforms and background - weird hitbox for the edges of platform resulting in falling when it would seem unfair - part of the lvl with two slugs after 3rd or 4th checkpoint slightly too unfair : player has to wait for the right timing to dodge the slugs, and can fail from not moving rather too quickly - can be prevented by happily jumping into the slug, though - same as above, after the hard bit with the consecutive vertical jumps on desintegrating platforms, fading away comes really too fast when trying to dodge the slugs - and getting eaten now and then is not solving it this time - so I stopped because it was 2am.
Looks super nice. Art and music/sfx are ON POINT.
I kept pressing space to jump at the start, out of habit, and restarted the game a couple times because of it. Might be nice to add it to the controls! Cool to figure out that throwing not yummy things on other not yummy things would kill em.
PS : I let the game play in the background while writing this, to enjoy the tune, and it managed to get a better score than I did. I am a terrible karrot feeder...
Nice entry! Made me very nostalgic. The mood you set is really great, and I had a chuckle at the brain level. Would love to see the easter egg at one point, so I might try again later :D
Artistic direction is :ok_hand: Simple and efficient gameplay, with a hint of science - and I love me a wee bit of science. Died at 100 with two bacterial infections, and got shamed for drug abuse. I contributed to antibiotic resistance, deeply sorry for that.
The art is incredible. The coffee making needs a bit of trial and error to remember, but nothing tedious. No hand-holding, all flows smoothly. The night brings a nice unexpected yet gradual twist, very pleasant. The walking one step per key at a time was not very intuitive for me at first, but made a lot of sense when in the kitchen. A great entry, thank you for making this despite the sickness, and I wish you a good recovery!!
Working perfectly well on Win 11 here! I love puzzles like this. Took out a pen an paper, noted down all things, and tried commands one by one. I think I get it, but it seems my execution is off, unfortunately. Had a blast just thinking about it. Thanks for the fun!! And congrats on your entry.
This games has : - cats - adorable pixel art - a music loop that will turn in your head minutes after playing - more cats
Should you play? Yes.
That is art. The story and voice acting were brillant, and I loved the deeply contrasted pixel art - legible and gripping. One of the most impressive entries in terms of moodiness.
I am in love with the music! Thank you for sharing, ohlala <3 Exactly the kind of autumn chill vibes I am looking for. Hygge, like they say in Danemark, I might add.
Easy to pick up, hard to master. After a couple runs, I am now able to memorise the recipes and only mess up every 1 out of 5 orders! I don't even want to imagine the hard mode ahah. Difficulty number 2 is enough for me - and the simple fact you actually have multiplayer and several difficulties is astonishing.
Just the right amount of everything!
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I spent a lot of time just turning around in the garden while cutting grass and pretending to be Link ahah. Clever mechanichs, beautiful graphics, and amazingly relaxing. The humming <3 Looking forward to seeing what you do next!
You win for innovation!
The pixel art is fantastic, the difficulty and challenge just right, the music catchy - let's be honest, the best bit is when the batteries are dead :D I loved your take on the the theme, it was such a clever twist!
I love beards. Thank you for making me achive my dreams of shaping them. Simple, to the point. Works perfectly with the theme. Very nice art and beard hair physics, I might add.
You always deliver on game feel!! The juice was so very juicy. Awesome game, will definitely try to improve on my way of the sandwicher.
Aaah I loved growing plants! I'm amazed you managed to transfer real growing 'strategies' to the game, in such a digestible way. I played story mode, and was really getting in the story. Unfortunately, I don't know if it is not finished or if my game is stuck, but after the small plant with a lot of colourful flowers, I could not get the text to show up :(
Screenshot 2022-10-08 233119.png
I had a lovely experience, this was relaxing and perfect before bed. Congrats!
Cat for the done button? Perfect. Menu and flowers animation for scene change? Even more perfect.
I really enjoyed playing! I have a thing for cute art and violence mashed together... The little noise the bears make is cherry on top. Changing loadout is a great idea, weapon variety is nice and all have quite a nice gamefeel. Strong entry!
I had fun :D Loving the minigames idea, and how you put it into place. The vibes are fantastic and everything just works o well together.
The one thing I would complain about is that last labyrinth... Took me a few MINUTES, ahah.
I managed 2:30 - after practicing the maze! Great entry.
I did NOT expect the ending ahahah! Really nice play on the theme. I was really invested in fetching those groceries!
I love it! Played three times to select different choices and see how the story would unfold. Balancing everything, and strategising about crate placement and stocking shelves was really fun. Great work!! Also, Pico8 <3
My favourite game so far. I shook my head 360 style on Zoom, as one would do in real life too. As a cat mom with a needy boi, this is so very accurate. Fantastic.
Thanks for sharing :D The music works so well. And oh my, this juice! I cleared 16 waves, after being a liiittle bit too daring to optimise money grabbing on the last few ahah.
Good luck with the bug fixing! I look forward to seeing more :)
Aaah! I love the graphics :D Great work there, like always! The music sounds nice, repetitive and never annoying. Simple and to the point :) I look forward to seeing your team's next game.
523m, final run for me. I saw the dinosaur after a few runs, and really wanted to see what else you has in store! The inversion of the screen, then of the colour broke my last brain cell of the day ahah. The laser bot got me on the third shot :') Loved that the patterns are randomised, the retro feel, and my favorite element (apart from the dino), was the animation of the dimension change.
Gameplay is really intuitive and works super smoothly.
Here for the music and the pixel art :D That chiptune is getting me nostalgic! Thank you for sharing. I unfortunately cannot play, as I encountered the same issue as blk_dog, stuck on 0% for quite some time, so I'll rate what I can see and hear :D
PS: the details put in the settings are INCREDIBLE
Typos are just the worst bugs to find.. good job there!! And thank you for letting me know :D I had a scare at first, the game loaded but I couldn't see anything but the base - turns out I just unselected everything from the rendering section of the settings ahah.
I could not get rid of the both enemy bases, but I am satisfied with my runs! Adding ratings now.
Like other, I am unfortunately unable to firgure out the watch. Nevertheless, I love the concept of minigames like this, and having to figure out what to do. Starting over from the begining is rather frustrating though.
The art style is simple and that's excellent - black and white doodle aesthetics ftw. Great entry.
I really like the concept, this is really novel! Great idea for the theme. Stuck on the loop as well ahah.
Easily one of my favourite games so far. I followed you since LD46, and you always present amazing stuff. I am trying to get a perfect score in each scene ahah.
The pixel art is just breath-taking, the music got me head-banging, and the twist on rythm games was a nice touch.
Smooth and efficient. Visually stunning.
The art is just fantastic. The old school vibes, and treasuring of moments... such a great idea. Thank you for making this game. It was a great little experience to go through.
The art and animations are stunning. The game in the game is challenging just the right amount. The sound ambiance was on point.
This was fun! You can easily add onto it by adding levels, too. The length was just right for a quick playthrough. I like the idea and you did a good job with the implementation : controls respond well, it straightforward, and challenging enough to keep one entertained. Nice one!
This is a brilliant idea, the duality between wanting to pet, but also wanting to optimise the kill by attracting all those rabbits to the soon-to-be bomb... ah! I love it.
IT IS SO GOOOD! The track and how sounds were associated to moves really got me going for a while - I managed to go about 17 moves in I believe. The little drummer get is adorable, and the colours scheme is pleasant. I am tempted to go back and try to see if there is an end to it :D Your game deserves more love!!
113 years! Long live Poda. Fun and simple mechanics, really makes you hit replay to try and get a better score :D
For everyone struggling with ChampagneShower.exe : - we sadly didn't have time to implement the feedback animations before the submission deadline - the controls with keyboard instead of mouse like the other games wer not supposed to be misleading, there were originally other minigames requiring keyboard controls that we didn't have time to code into the game either, we realise the lack of instructions can mislead - the hitboxes are REALLY lenient
champagnep.gif
@kalendhos Thank you for your feedback! I bugged the devs for mouse controls ahah. We have a post-jam version where it is a thing, that we will release after the ratings period is over. Hopefully we will have some additional minigames for variety, and a less random popup selector! Too many of the same minigame can be a total run killer.
GarbageSnackz.exe sadly did not have time to be implemented. Glad you liked @sersie's boi, Morgz! His game would be a small labyrinth, where you have to collect his dinner.
- I like breaking walls too. - Simple to pickup, intuitive controls. - Sound design and monster approach are manageable, even for people hating jumpscares - It just works. - 10/10 would swing mallet again.
Edit : AND I ESCAPED, YESSS!
Such a moody little story. This was absolutely lovely. I loved the pixel art and sound atmosphere, solid entree.
That was such a challenging one! The randomising of the kill order AND attack menu... it took me a few rounds to notice ahah. Dies on stage 10, it was going too fast for my tired brain x) Sold entree, and smart choice focusing on gameplay - the simple graphics just work.
Thank you for sharing your musics :D The concept is fantastic - and really makes me realise how bad I am at coordinating at the moment... The pixel art is brillant, I love when the manager just randomly sneaks up on you on the side, I couldn't hold a laugh, and I then got fire for failing ahaha!
I didn't look at the controls at first, and was using F, so it kinda prevented me to understand on my first playthrought ahah. When I got that it was a debug key, the second time around it quickly made more sense!
I ADORE the racoons dancing around, and the wee tune going with it. It's adorable. Low poly works great. You could easily build up on the game and do more tasks, more levels... Nice entry!
This is great! I love the colours you chose - totally not just saying this because purple is my favourite colour, it really does work well. I thoroughly enjoy making donuts and hot dogs. The way things are slowly introduced to you makes the progression very natural.
You made a good one, it's hard to stop until all levels are cleared. Very clever pun btw.
One tiny thing I noticed, I think the mouse icon might be wrong in two bits of the tutorial :
Screenshot 2022-10-08 221242e.png
Screenshot 2022-10-08 221434.png
I clicked 61 times and got a raise, but then I got fired reapeatedly for being unable to build even the one rocket ... Challenging and fun, but I am unfortunately no rocket scientist.
Win! Art style and animation are stunning. Props to you for making a really simple gameplay with intuitive controls, and a solid visual/auditive experience.
I found that the battles grew increasingly easier due to the enemies throwing several attacks at you, and clicking when the candles was underneath several would count as a double attack/defence. Does not get in the way, the satisfaction of winning is still there ahah.
That went into a direction I was not expecting, all for the better. The backstory is just the right amount of cryptic, too. Loved the boss fight. The spawning of garbage lights and sfx are one detail I appreciated the most. The attention to detail you put in this... congrats on your entry.
Untitled.jpg
First playthrough, tired and in browser, happy with the result nonetheless!
It takes a bit of getting used to for each song to get hold of the rythm, and then it's such a pleasing ride! The drawing are beautiful, all animations so smooth... The music is soothing and catchy at the same time, I would definetly love to stream the soundtrack even out of the game :D Impeccable polish, and funny story as the cherry on top. Beautiful entry, thank you for the nice bedtime story.
That's what I call innovation, and brings a nice addition to the dating sim genre ahah. The amount of content is impressive. Voice acting and spacial sounds, yes please. I crave bad puns, thank you for packing them here. If you don't catch that one rule, you pay. Simple gameplay, just works. Great entry.
Definitely second the headphones recommendation, I couldn't play with speakers.
I was about to leave the same feedback as the comment above regarding where the cable should be to plug it. Additionnaly, the number above the hole would be nice, so as not to cover them when plugging them.
More ambiant sfx (like phone ringing, indistinct conversations...) would be a nice touch.
It was a bit hard to track which call to disconnect, but I imagine that's part of the memory game :)
I really enjoyed playing, it's definitely not something we see a lot of! You did a great job with this, thank you for creating it!!
I also ran into the "I cannot see words" from stage 3 ahah. I adore word games, so glad to have found one! The bonus/malus combo was just the perfect balance too. UI makes it very comprehensive. I struggled a bit with understanding how to change the letter order as I wanted, but had a lot of fun. The timing works so well, imo. Job well done! :D
Minimalistic pixel art is so complex to me, I admire what you did. Everything is so legible. I really enjoyed playing! The atmosphere with the music and environemental changes is greatly efficient. The Wilhelm scream had me laugh. Managed to destroy towers, but not four in one playthrough. Awesome work!
This was a lot of fun! I loved the pixel art, the variety of drawings was nice, the sfx and design of characters was great, and having to reproduce the drawing in such a short time frame works really well. I am impressed with the amount of content you managed to put here.
I had a bit of a hard time with the font you chose for the text, sometimes.
Thanks for making your game!
Beautiful art! The recipes are great, and learning curve smooth. I just struggled a bit understanding the coffee. Impressive work here :)
Big Hotline Miami vibes, here! Dynamic and pleasant gameplay. - Like some people mentioned, feedback for the guns for instance would be nice. - I struggled a bit with the white flashes, and the dark green of the grass might make the enemies a wee bit less legible.
The sprites and cover art are dope. That's a solid one, great work.
Birbs! I enjoy your take - as well as typing, and latin.
You deserve so much more love.
This is such a beautiful and fascinating idea. It reminds me of the language aptitude tests ([LLAMA](https://www.lognostics.co.uk/tools/LLAMA_3/index.htm)) I did a few month ago, to assess how good one is at leanring a new language, with sentence structures, grammar rules etc through pattern recognition. The way the brain works to make up rules without really being told anything is fantastic, and this game is an absolute ode to it.
Couldn't help but read your feedback, @zungryware. It's a meta-level of fun, analysing why we associate one thing to another. You might enjoy going through the LLAMA tests I mentioned above, I had a blast going over why I had ease with this or that.
Back to our captchas. It's simple, it's addictive, it looks just great. Loved to see the timer in the background and the colour gradiant.
I managed to get 69 rounds in!
It's Halloweeeeen season!! I like to see we were not the only ones to choose "minigames every ten seconds". I love the portable console feel and the graphics :D
BRILLANT! I had such fun! At first I was trying to avoir killing, but it quickly become a needed mechanic. One of my favourites.
I fell in love with the drawings! Not to mention that mouth-track, and the fact that it is about GENETICS. <3 I truly think I have bred the most fabulous snake there can be.
(I did try to disable Math)
Screenshot 2022-10-05 231535.png
That was fun! I am terrible at bullet hell, but the "you get a chance to heal" saved me more than once ahah. Great use of the theme. Congrats on your entree :) Happy these two can get their lives back in the end :D
Thanks for sharing your music. This is so very trippy! The artistic direction is right up my alley ahah. Loving the sounds and graphics dearly.
...I managed to get a jumpscare from a ball sneaking up behind me, and killing me.
That was quite a powerful story, through visuals. Impressive work tackling this!
This is a great first jam game! Welcome to this fantastic world. I went throught the games a couple times to get all the answers, I was curious hehe.
Oh myyy! Had not dealt with stacks in a while. This made them fun all over again! It's such a neat game. The instructions are clear, and seeing the result of each input really helps make sure we understood what does what.
Like in 'real' programing, I love how there are many solutions for one given problem, I tried digging with fewer inputs for instance... it felt like cheating ahah!
Screenshot 2022-10-09 000839.png
One of my favourites! Congrats.
Screenshot 2022-10-17 211335.png
Fun little platformer! Love the addition of the collectibles, and very nice timing for each level. Would be quite fun to speedrun! Most of my deaths - if not all of them... - come from that one level with the very close platforms that demand extreme precision to jump and not bump your head :'D
Music and art are cute, sfx work, gamefeel is comfortable and intuitive. Great one :) I'll probably come back to it and better my score!
