LD46 — Keep it alive

Zen Watering by Gao Ming 2020-04-23T08:39:02Z

What a lovely game! Might be my favourite plant game of the jam so far :) it was really polished, and looked really cute. The plant animations were fantastic, great job. My only issue was, as most others said, the mouse sensitivity, which was too high. Having a mouse sensitivity slider is pretty much a must-have in first person games. All in all, good job! I wish it was longer :)

Whale Dive by vilcans 2020-04-29T22:54:26Z

Really cool! Impressive to see an actual atari game made for the jam. It's quite hard, which is appropriate, considering the difficulty level of the games of that age! Great job.

NOTHING by shubart 2020-04-23T08:41:07Z

@pilarius it's literally nothing...

Heart.ache//nascension by Alchemic 2020-05-09T04:55:10Z

Oh wow.

This is really weird.

But it's also impressive, in its own way. This is a completely new concept so it's really hard to make something fun out of it... but you actually did! Specially the post-jam version, it is much better. The fact that you made this in pure C++ out of everything available is also really, really impressive. This game feels like a system. A really intriguing system!

I think I share the same feeling as most players here. It's a mix of awe and confusion. Nice entry!

Elevator Orator by Le Slo 2020-04-28T22:09:50Z

This was the most fun I've had so far in this jam!! After I got the hang of it I couldn't stop playing!! It's actually addicting. It's simple and relaxing. It's super polished! The only bug I found was that sometimes, you would start on a mistake (ie. the word starts with a consonant in a light blue spot), but that was so rare I didn't really care. Great job! I think I might even play this again another time. Here's my highscore:

This was really fun! Got to $3229. I LOVED THE MUSIC, great job on that one! The graphics could've been better but honestly it didn't bother me at all. This kinda reminded me of my game, just a lot more balanced, lol

Great job! This shows that a game doesn't have to be big in order to be fun :)

ReOrb by aayush 2020-05-09T03:04:41Z

Great game! It's a really good concept that I think has a lot of potential!! The graphics are super simple, yet I really liked them, nice job :)

I did have some issues, though... first, the mouse control should have gotten more polish. It's weird that the "shell" is not pointing towards the mouse. I know it sounds weird, but trust me. I think you could make some kind of smart system that determines the "front" of your defenses and make that point towards the mouse. Or just an arrow, that would help too

Oh and it's too easy. Like, too easy. After you get a ring of converters, there's nothing else to do. And that takes just about 8 rounds or so... I think you should make it so they break after they give you at most 5x their own price, or something like that!

And I think I've found I've found a bug. I accidentally bought a canon, so I got rid of it and... that got rid of the entire slot. So I had an unfixable hole in my defenses forever. Which was weird.

Actually I found two bugs. The second one was what made me stop playing...

That projectile just. Kinda stayed there... so the round never ended. Oops!

All in all, great entry! Good graphics, good concept, wish it was harder. With a bit more polish, I'd honestly play this more times!!

Luciole by LaJazuve 2020-04-23T04:31:17Z

The graphics are beautiful and the atmosphere is great! But as others said, the controls were far too confusing and I couldn't go far. I tried the postmortem version and it still felt really weird. Having to hold down S to place stuff was really uncomfortable. But hey, I can see you put a lot of work into it, good job!

Beam Slinger by egawag 2020-05-09T03:44:32Z

What a beautiful, fun game! The graphics are by far the most impressive part of your entry, it's simply amazing! The music as well, it's really good! And... is that dynamic music I can hear?! It smoothly gets more epic when you get a lot of momentum and that's awesome!

The gameplay is good too! I feel like given the concept, this is probably about as good as it can get. I see you put a lot of effort into polishing, and that's really good. Once I left the "play area" it told me to hit Esc, which shows that a lot of thought was put into this.

I also feel like maybe there should have been an automatic collision avoidance system. It was too easy to lose all of your momentum by hitting a rock... which also kills the vibe somewhat. You're getting really fast, the music starts getting more intense then BONK you hit a rock and now you're frozen. Aw... (I know an "automatic collision avoidance system" sounds really complicated, but it's really not- I think that just adding a trigger around the rocks that applies a repelling force to the player based on their direction and momentum would work)

Overall, great entry! I had loads of fun! You should be proud of yourselves :)

(oh and also... 96 MB?? Ouch! I think you should improve the compression of the files, because that's a lot!)

Cells by Gaming Night 2020-04-29T23:17:55Z

It's awesome!! The graphics are definitely a major point. The UI is incredible, specially the 3D UI animations. It's super polished. You actually managed to include a proper tutorial which is impressive given the limited time. It did take me a couple of tries before I figured what I had to do (and that I could have more than a single "module" per type).

My main issues were the slow camera movement and the fact that the game didn't tell the level of the upcoming virus (which was specially punishing when, out of nowhere, it started incrementing by 2). But that were postjam version, so it was fine.

The sounds were good! But not perfect. At first they were cool, but after a while they got kinda tiring, specially the high pitched heart sounds. But that's a minor nitpick, don't worry :)

I still haven't managed to beat it yet, but my best was getting to virus level 12, with 30+ orange nutrients and 1 green nutrient. Really close to winning, so I might try again later!

This was a really cool and innovative take on the concept of using the human body as the "it" for the "Keep It Alive" theme. I also made a game about organs, but it was much less strategy sci fi than this, haha!

Overall, awesome entry! Best of luck!!

Parenting Crash Course by hollowspecter 2020-04-22T00:12:24Z

This was actually really fun! This is my favourite so far. Really good idea, good execution, good levels, nice graphics! Great job!

The Sky Land by rk0307 2020-05-02T02:26:30Z

This was actually great! The graphics were amazing, the overall style was really cool and memorable, the animations were great and so was the level design (I loved that it was just one big level that you had to explore but some areas weren't accessible at all times). The sounds were really good as well. I also felt very comfortable with the player controls, which is rare in jams haha! There are a few points I want to make, however:

* The camera was a bit weird. It felt slippery and kinda slow * The story was pretty lame but that's fine, story's the least important thing of jam games!! * I found a funny bug where if you hit shift you get pushed backwards. It works even if you are in mid air, so you're able to skip some parts of the game simply mashing shift, like that first jump where you need to use dash * 3D platforms games require 90° vertical shadows so you know where the player's landing. This had no shadows at all (which honestly is better than bad shadows) which made some jumps a little harder * I wish it was longer! More levels, more enemies, more details... * I found something funny when I replayed it. If that last cube (where you jump to your death) isn't actually the 15th (if you left one behind) you will respawn at the last checkpoint normally and nothing happens when you do get the 15th cube, unless you purposely jump out the play area. It was a good opportunity to hide a secret ending haha

Overall, you made a great entry! It's rare seeing good 3D platformers out there, and this is one of them! Great job!!

(Also the music did get a little annoying, but I know you used free Kevin McLeod music so it's fine- I know the struggle haha)

Me: Tree! by Groggi 2020-04-27T03:54:33Z

@blackmoodgames it's not an unity game, lol

Me: Tree! by Groggi 2020-04-27T04:04:28Z

Really liked the idea and it looks really nice! I had two problems though. The first is that it's really unbalanced. It took me many, many tries until I was able to not die after growing three times. And when that happened, my progress went exponential! I was getting over 100 water and energy per second in a matter of seconds and that was fun :)

My second problem was the performance. I'm not sure what's going on, but after a few dozens of "nodes" the whole thing started lagging so bad it pretty much grinded to a halt. And I couldn't play anymore... There must be something really wrong with your implementation. I might take a look into the source code to see what's going on, if you'd want :)

Also I think the post-jam version is more broken than the jam version :P

Anatomic Mayhem by henrycgs 2020-05-02T14:59:01Z

@aurel300 "tutorial indicators"? I guess you're playing on the postmortem version. Which suggests you were playing on Easy. Have you tried other modes?

Anatomic Mayhem by henrycgs 2020-05-09T02:28:40Z

@emperor-eagle thanks for the kind words! I did add multiple difficulties in the post-jam version, haha!

Anatomic Mayhem by henrycgs 2020-05-09T15:21:06Z

@ddrkirbyisq well... that's why I think "sound" and "music"should be different categories... I did make all the other sounds...

But I guess you're right.

File Survival by Probe31 2020-04-28T04:23:57Z

Loved the looks, concept and presentation! It is really hard, though. Also it broke when I enabled fullscreen, lol

Was there a win condition? I gave up after getting the key and then immediately getting bombarded by popups... If it wasn't as unforgiving I actually would have wanted to play much more of this!

Overall, great entry!

Running Old Game On Windows 10 Simulator 2020 by Kszaku 2020-04-21T21:46:34Z

Very creative! I almost gave up trying to figure out the missing disc thing but then I remembered what an .iso file was

Power Defense Game by SciDev 2020-04-21T21:24:07Z

Nice game! Made it to the flip phone, then I moved away from my keyboard and the battery ran out before I could reach the button again

hype dream by Dane Tesla 2020-05-06T15:58:01Z

You did a great job at this!! It's a really cute game, the graphics are on point!! I really like multitasking games (well, I mean, I did also make one) and this was an awesome one. I think my biggest issues (nitpicks, really) were the length of the tutorial and maybe the fact that you can't move windows around (and close some?).

All in all, awesome game :)

Where`s my Pills by colan 2020-04-21T22:08:20Z

It's a nice and simple platformer! Quite difficult, too. The player moves a tad fast... Good job!

-SPROUT- by ZEN 2020-04-23T08:29:49Z

This was a cool concept and a cool game! Just wish there was a way to adjust mouse sensitivity. Also I felt like I wasn't hitting them when I felt like I was. All in all, nice job :)

Spider's Food by 8BitCharlie 2020-05-09T06:12:32Z

Wow, a pure JS/HTML game! That's impressive. It's something I actually do for fun sometimes, but I usually never share those with the world haha

There isn't much to say here. It's a really simple game... but it was well made, given its scope. I had fun with it. Nice job :)

Monstrous Affection by PatateNouille 2020-04-23T04:10:51Z

Hey, that's a really cool concept! I liked the controls and the mechanics are really well made. The graphics are cute as well!

However, I did get stuck... twice. The first time was trying to understand how to get ingots, since neither of the two crafting machines made them. It took me a very long time to realize I could change the recipe of the machines by using E... The second time I got stuck was when I was about to make the last gas tank for the rocket and then my gas making machine ran out of fuel and I got softlocked, since there was no wood/green rock thing anywhere. I also didn't get the monster... it kinda just sat there doing nothing and the only food available was the single tree.

But still, you did a great job, specially in such a little time. I'd totally play a postmortem version!

Message by NoamRaz 2020-05-01T17:44:55Z

Cool idea! I liked the graphics and sound, and the mood was great. The controls were a bit slippery though, and I wish there was a checkpoint somewhere... but I also wished it was longer, I wanted to keep playing!

Anyway, nice job!
