Fun game with a really cool concept, only suggestion would be to either bound the play area or provide some method for the player to turn around. i got stuck moving very fast with no asteroids near me for a long time. also couldnt exit the game as there was no menu/exit key. great job though and i hope you pursue this further!

peachtreeoath 2020-04-23 16:43

This game needs more attention! This is one of the most solid core gameplays I've seen so far. It's very kinetic and feels great as you're building momentum and swinging around like a space Spiderman. The decision to make your colors change as you level up and get to later levels was brilliant, because after I had seen the first level and how it plays out, the main thing driving me forward more was how cool I could make the main character look. The game is very addicting not just because of the upgrades and testing the speed limit, but also that you feel like you're mastering the game over time. Very very good entry! 5/5 fun

thepiratenun 2020-04-23 20:31

@dceddy7 Thanks for the suggestion! We made it so that esc now resets the player into areas with more asteroids. And thanks for playing!

prototype-jon 2020-04-23 21:46

The game was a lot of fun. It was also unexpectedly challenging to guide the character into the portals. The main character was also super cute and charismatic.

Excellent game!

kent-reese 2020-04-23 21:51

Wow! Great visuals and a really neat mechanic, I really liked this one.

herrybiscuit 2020-04-23 22:05

I had a lot of fun toying with the mechanics of this game. Very beautiful soundtrack and visuals. Absolutely love the particle effects.

As a side note, the mechanics and flow work very well without reading the tutorial, and i felt like i was clicking though license agreements in the beginning.

Very nice entry overall <3

muchobestostudio 2020-04-23 22:16

Relaxing game with a good audio. Gameplay's mechanic is very interesting and a bit challenging. The story is good and put the player in the mood. But too much texts on the tutorial.

zubspace 2020-04-23 23:21

One of the most relaxing games I've played. Very nice and smooth! The rope physics are well done and the effects are nice to look at, especially the rainbow one :) You also did a good job with the intro!

One thing I struggled with: Sometimes finding a missed orb can be quite a challenge if you don't know where to look at. There are so many gray indicators but no blue ones, when you're far from them. Maybe try removing the gray indicators and only show the blue and golden one, but from farther away?

But nonetheless, very good job. Thanks for the game!

cadstor 2020-04-25 22:39

Good job! I really enjoy to play your game, the aesthetic and the gameplay are amazing. :3

sorko 2020-04-26 10:44

I really enjoyed the high-speed action. It was a bit difficult to get it going at beginning but developed a touch for it quite fast. At first I thought the tail flame was a sign for the critical speed, and got mad when the asteroids didn't break when hitting them :D

Very nicely done, good idea and solid game play!

miltonnh25 2020-04-27 02:36

Good job with the game. It was very relaxing and fun to swing around. Good touch with the music changing when you reach max speed, made it feel impactful.

madalaski 2020-05-03 20:47

A really nice time. Very fun and peaceful. I think having to reset when you go too far out of bounds, causing you to lose all your orbs, coupled with it being very hard to see where the orbs, gives an element of unfairness. But certainly nothing that can't be smoothed out with further development!

johnnysix 2020-05-03 22:02

Loved the intro , was nice to have the story told without words. The grapple / flying felt pretty natural, although maybe some unnatural physics could help on things like turning / orbiting an asteroid to change direction and/or differences between large/small asteroids in terms of how you move.

Amazing particle effects, and top marks for the music!

Would be cool to see more.

Aww, what a cute little game! And the idea is amazing! It feels so so exciting and adventurous to grapple yourself through space like a little space spiderman (could'nt have put it better!) Th graphics we're cute and simply, keep making stuff @artist :) Indeed a great entry for a gamejam! if you continue to work on it, maybe balance it as of trying to eliminate the deadbeat situations that can sometimes occur, like there being no astroids to grapple to, and if one is directly in front of you, you most likely die as well :( But again, amazing achieveent in the course of 3 days! also, if you'd add more objectives the player has to collect and maybe enemies (do you know "Lovers in a dangerous spacetime"? if not, check that game out!) I can see this becoming fun for hours :D Good job!

willops 2020-05-05 05:46

Great entry! I really liked this one and played it all the way through! It was super fun and felt great to fling myself around the map building up momentum, though I think you might be able to do a bit more with that core mechanic, since it did get a little boring near the end. I also found it a little obnoxious to collect all the blue spheres, they felt like they were there to extend the length of gameplay more than anything. My suggestion is to try adding more ways for the play to build up their momentum, and make that the main goal instead of collecting the blue orbs, really hone in on that core mechanic, that's what arcadey games are all about. Overall this was a great entry though, loved it!

egawag 2020-05-05 07:21

@willops thanks for playing :D, bit late to say, and sorry that it was misleading, but you don't have to collect all the blue orbs to get through the gate, you just need to reach 100% momentum, each level is beatable with no blue orbs. Sorry if it decreased your enjoyment of the game.

willops 2020-05-05 19:55

@egawag Oh no, I know getting all of them is unnecessary, I just thought that it might be interesting to give the players more ways to build up the necessary momentum than just collecting the blue spheres. I still had a lot of fun though, so this is a bit more of a post-jam suggestion.

jajo 2020-05-08 11:43

That little character was adorable. Speeding through space so fast. You go little guy :) Really enjoyed the game, if you couldn't already tell. Nice job :)

goffmog 2020-05-08 15:56

This game is gorgeous, relaxing and super satisfying to play with the orbital mechanics. The little dude is so personable it's one of the few LD entries where I've felt legitimately sad when I died. The music fits perfectly too, and it's a pleasant change from the kind of serious sci-fi orchestral or electronic themes that you usually find accompanying space based puzzle games. Really well done!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:41

@peachtreeoath Thanks so much for playing, and we're so glad you enjoyed! We are really glad other people are enjoying the effects and the gameplay!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:42

@prototype-jon @jajo Thanks so much for playing, and glad you guys like the main character! If you were curious, his name is Winchel!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:42

@kent-reese @MiltonNH25 @MuchoBestoStudio @cadstor @sorko @johnnysix Thanks so much for playing and for the feedback!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:43

@herrybiscuit Thanks for playing, and I totally get your point about the tutorial. We appreciate the feedback!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:54

@subspace We really appreciate the feedback! Balancing the indicators without making them overwhelming was a challenge, so we'll definitely keep refining that.

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:57

@fatpenguin Glad you enjoyed and thanks for playing! We were trying to avoid hand-placing asteroids, but it definitely does lead to some tough situations. We'll keep refining the asteroid system moving forward! Thanks for all the ideas!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 01:59

@goffmog Glad you liked Winchel and the music! Thanks for the play!

hlo-world 2020-05-09 03:25

I'm loving how snappy the gameplay feels!

henrycgs 2020-05-09 03:44

What a beautiful, fun game! The graphics are by far the most impressive part of your entry, it's simply amazing! The music as well, it's really good! And... is that dynamic music I can hear?! It smoothly gets more epic when you get a lot of momentum and that's awesome!

The gameplay is good too! I feel like given the concept, this is probably about as good as it can get. I see you put a lot of effort into polishing, and that's really good. Once I left the "play area" it told me to hit Esc, which shows that a lot of thought was put into this.

I also feel like maybe there should have been an automatic collision avoidance system. It was too easy to lose all of your momentum by hitting a rock... which also kills the vibe somewhat. You're getting really fast, the music starts getting more intense then BONK you hit a rock and now you're frozen. Aw... (I know an "automatic collision avoidance system" sounds really complicated, but it's really not- I think that just adding a trigger around the rocks that applies a repelling force to the player based on their direction and momentum would work)

Overall, great entry! I had loads of fun! You should be proud of yourselves :)

(oh and also... 96 MB?? Ouch! I think you should improve the compression of the files, because that's a lot!)

nobongo 2020-05-09 04:14

@henrycgs As the guy who thought some giant animated animated portals would be cool, I apologize for the file size. I plan on compressing all of the graphics in the future!

Thank you for the input (we seriously appreciate all of it) and I'm very glad that you enjoyed our game!

thepiratenun 2020-05-09 04:19

@henrycgs Yes that is dynamic music, thanks so much for noticing! :)

alexfsmirnov 2020-05-09 17:25

Now this is an incredible game! Cute story introduction, great music and atmosphere, particle systems are simply amazing! The gameplay feels very smooth, "slingshoting" around the asteroids is very fun. I really enjoyed playing it. Beat the game only being frozen 2 times :) Very nice job, this game is definitely one of my favorites from this jam

thomas-bringer 2020-05-09 17:36

Amazing game! Nice concept, the controls are very satisfying. Had a lot of fun flying around and trying to get the highest speed. The visuals and audio are great, too. Might be a bit away from the theme. Congrats on making this great creation! :D

ptsnoop 2020-05-09 17:40

Now this is a good game. Ever considered making a phone version? I bet it'd work well with a touchscreen...

Just one thing I'd have preferred - at the moment, when deactivated, the level-end portal looks quite a lot just like two asteroids. So it surprised me at first that I couldn't grapple off them. It might be worth either making them grapple-able, or making them look a bit less asteroid-like. I did like how Level 1 always starts off with an orb right in front of the player, though - as a good way of introducing them, it's a nice touch!

angusdick 2020-05-09 20:54

fun concept! I definitely need to keep playing it to get the hang of it though!

thewinrawr 2020-05-09 23:47

This game is so pretty and so polished. I love how the music changes based on your speed, which really adds on to the atmosphere of this game. The particle effects are amazing, and it was immensely fun just zinging around the map. The astronaut dude is super cute, and I loved the opening cutscene that came with it. Incredible job you guys did!

kaeveris 2020-05-10 10:25

The game looks and sounds great - relaxing soundtrack and beautiful graphics! Would be nice to have some boundaries when play area ends or some way to get back to play area instead of restarting

alexander-wayne 2020-05-10 11:45

It was rather hard at first, but felt really enjoyable when I got the hang of it. Great job!

mharring 2020-05-12 19:58

Excellent game! The mechanics took a little learning but once you figured them out it was very satisfying to zoom around space. Well done!
