I loved the artwork and the character designs of the different characters! The idea of the game is sweet, but it didnt seem to make a difference what I drew as long as I didnt submit a blank sheet. That kind of took the motivation away to put a lot of effort in. The audio was nice and I appreciated the different sounds for different customers :)
So, innovation here ;)

That's amazing. All fives from me. Animation, style, gameplay is great and fits 100% into the theme.
As a person who can barely draw at all I actually had a lot of fun!
Nice work on art and the athmosphere is super chill This idear is original !
Curious how you graded the drawings.

Oh wow what a game! Loved the varied character designs (*), each well executed with a lot of personality. Nice amount of special days and progression to keep it interesting, it really adds a lot. Not much to critique, the drawing matching is maybe a bit on the forgiving side but that's a hard problem to solve. I had an amazing experience, great work everyone! (oh yea the music and sounds are great as well!)
* !> (especially the hand, the count and the kanji man!)
Something about the new version of Unity doesn't work in Wine, so I can't play it on Linux. :(
Out of the 10 or so games I've played so far during the LD51, this is the best one! Great job. The artstyle has a lot of charm and personality. The concept is well thought, original and fits the theme. The gameplay is a lot of fun too.
My main criticism is that the algorithm that rates your drawings doesn't seem to be very accurate. I tried drawing garbage on purpose and it made me more money that trying to recreate what I'm supposed to. Granted it's pretty hard to do an accurate algorithm of this sort in 2-3 days.
Amazing job!

Super original idea! Like other people, I did wonder how the pictures were being graded...
I really enjoy this game. Well done! No complaints here.
I really loved this game, I could play it for hours if the time wasn't ten seconds per drawing (I stress a lot lol). Great art and feedback!

I love the game. Such cute artwork and an amazing idea. If only you actually had to kind of draw whatever was in the picture. You can draw a simple line in the correct color and get $8. Of course, this might have been improved if more time was available. Great job!

This game truly stands out to me. The amount of polish, charm and personality you managed to create in such a short time is insane.
I'm also a big fan of the rough pixelart style, I imagine it's fairly quick to draw, but it just wouldn't look this good and charming if the artist behind them didn't know what they were doing which here they clearly did.
Also love the music, but also how each customer has their own sound effect that reflects their personality.
Only complaint from me is that you don't actually have to look at the requests at all or pay attention, since just doing scribbles in black and hitting the bell makes you way more money then you need. I'd actually be super interested to see what actually determines the earnings since its clearly not fully random.
Overall this is just fantastic work and will for sure be one of my high favourites this time.

Thanks for all the feedback so far! It's putting big smiles on our faces and we're super happy you're having fun.
The drawing calculations, as brought up by @justabread @bqq @m11 @chaikadev and @zd-elise are indeed a tough nut to crack in this short a timeframe. They're by far the thing that took longest in all the game, and indeed for the time being we just went with a generous approach to ensure everyone trying the game could experience it to its fullest rather than making it accidentally unfair.
I've been brainstorming for and researching about ways to improve it since the deadline and have several things I want to try, for a post-jam period update that the team and I want to do.
For those interested in looking behind the current curtains, I wrote a brief explanation [here](https://hastebin.com/esonutuwij.py).
This game was so well made! All the little details made it wonderful: the fact is scrolls through your days work, the polish and charm in the backgrounds, the wonderfully cute character design - all add to such a wonderful game. Turnip businessman? Sports vampire? Gym-bro car cyclops? I love them all! Adding colors to her palette was a great move - a fantastic way to iterate on the gameplay. As a programmer, I am racking my brain to figure out how you did the recognition of a 'good' image. If you are willing to post the source code, I would love to take a look - or even just a brief comment would be well appreciated. If not, I understand that too.
All in all, fantastic job!!
Absolutely fell in love with this game! I loved how quirky and cute the customers were, and i think some of the art work they requested were equally so! Very well paced as well! I really liked how the entire game sort of reflected the scribbly doodle-like art style :3 Great work!

very nice :) it was already pointed out that you can draw anything, but its still a great game! if you would record the strokes, maybe you could take the vector angle and even the curve strength into account - just a thougth, not sure if that would work. All in all, a great entry! :)

WOW! This is definitely the most innovative and fun jam game I've seen so far - very nice idea and execution was on point. Like others have pointed out, the actual grading seemed a bit too lenient, but I liked to pretend that maybe Sally is more of a Jackson Pollock sort of artist, and doesn't need to worry about form all that much. I read your entry on how the grading was done, and I thought your approach was a good one to roll out in just a 72 hours. For a jam, I'm really, really impressed with this. I'd like to give it a try on mobile if the grading could be tightened up a bit for those that want that added pressure.
The artwork and scribbles are so neat and cute. The feeling of deadline lol while drawing haha. I cannot wait to play this game on my smartphone.

A very cool idea and implementation! You've done a great job! As an artist, the theme of working for a customer is very close to me. Charming characters, it's great that everyone is uniquely voiced and offers their own tasks.
A significant disadvantage of gameplay and narrative is that the game does not punish the player for incorrect drawings and does not encourage accurate ones. Perhaps you didn't have time to implement it during Ludum Dare, but it's good that you chose to simplify the game, but give the player fun rather than the pain of a poorly working evaluation. I would like the payment to depend on the accuracy of the work, and in the case of careless work, the characters expressed dissatisfaction, paid little or did not pay at all.
It is still unclear whether the game takes into account color matches in the order and drawing. There is not enough feedback, whether you got into the order or not - the feeling that you have a world with ideal customers and they are happy about everything.
Perhaps a solution in the spirit of the mechanics of spells from the game "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" would suit you. Гарри поттер.JPG
This leaves freedom in drawing, but prompts when the drawing is circled accurately. Or another option is to make a barely noticeable coordinate grid on the "order" and "paper" so that the player can assess the coincidence of the original and the drawing.
But even now it's a lot of fun to draw! 💙 I liked the characters, the gameplay itself and the presence of a story. Art, music, various little things like the weather are the frosting on the cake. The game has a huge development potential.

That is a cool idea! My art got more and more abstract, some may say it got worse but my customers kept being pleased so I trust their judgement. I made it to day 12 and 600$ but then I discovered I could not buy anything with all that money so I quit my hard job at an artist, I had fun though.
Top 100 material right here

Really fun ! Some of my drawing were disastruous. Could be fun to have a top and worst drawing ^^. Interesting how you made the drawing/image comparison. Good job !
Really really fun. The music is perfect for this kind of game and especially in the beginning, it is extremely fun to find these new drawings to do and try to execute them in under 10 seconds. I do wish there was a bigger variety of drawings to work on but considering how quickly you are supposed to do them and the time frame under which this was developed I understand why there isn't. Amazing stuff for real.
I like it that while we're drawing, our pen moves along. I like the art style as well. Well done!
The best game i've played on this jam. Everything works perfectly here. Graphics, music, mood, humor. Volume up/down on mouse scroll was cherry on top.

This game is amazing, really... First time in my life I had an opportunity to play "speedrun drawing game" and I like it so much. Very good UI, funny sounds, great gameplay. One of my fave games of LD51

It was just awesome. I'm very stuck in this game. The game loop itself is beautifully made, and the work on animations is also gorgeous... Thank you for being able to have fun in your game).

@coda-highland Yo! Just got around to adding Linux and Mac builds to the itch.io page.
https://enjl.itch.io/sallys-scribbles
It is my first time downloading and using the relevant unity build targets so I hope it went smoothly.
This is a pretty fun game, even if I am terrible at the art. I really appreciate the concept of having to compromise more and more on the art to be able to see enough customers to make a profit. (Though I didn't make it past day 10.) And it fits really well with the theme for the event, so long as you're hearing "Every 10 seconds" in an exasperated, fatigued sort of voice.
I might suggest telegraphing the difficulty hikes a little earlier to give the first time player a chance to adjust their priorities in time for them.
Really enjoyed going through this! Was fun seeing how bad I get away with drawing lol

Quite fun! Lovely art style and seamless gameplay. Gave me some "Papers Please" vibes except more wholesome. While parts of me thinks the quality of my drawings do not influence my income (would be a pain to program this I imagine), it still felt rewarding to see the customers' comments.

- I'd really like a green broccoli, please - Sorry, best I can do is a black scribble - Oh, okay... here's twelve bucks
Life's good for Sally! ;)
Thank you for a great game!
I really like the art and atmosphere! Keep up the good work! :D Saw that you mentioned the art detection being better in an update, so I am looking forward to try the post-jam game!
This was really fun! I played a similar game earlier with drawing tattoos but it used a stencil that you traced (which makes sense for tattoos). Not sure which I like better, I think yours is more challenging. I need to pop open the code on both to see how you handle checking the drawing against what the customer wanted, thought that was pretty cool. Nice entry!
I think not playable on macOS? It's just a folder with a bunch of files but nothing executable

Alright, it's absolutely lovely ! I think i'll show this game to some people I know that actually know how to draw, not like me  Cute music, cute drawings, cute people, cats. This game as everything !
Very good job, I really enjoyed that entry !
Keep up the good work

This was a lot of fun! I loved the pixel art, the variety of drawings was nice, the sfx and design of characters was great, and having to reproduce the drawing in such a short time frame works really well. I am impressed with the amount of content you managed to put here.
I had a bit of a hard time with the font you chose for the text, sometimes.
Thanks for making your game!

@finn-pickart Ahhhh I feared it might be a problem. This is my first time checking out other unity build targets, so I foolishly assumed it would just spit out something that works, like for Windows. Gonna have to dig more into it.
This was similar to another game in LD51 called Tattooz, except they were able to get HTML5 web working and Wacom tablet pen... which did not work for this game, sadly. Web player would have been convenient, as I am always worried about downloading games.
I liked your concept of earning money, however! It shows that this game has huge potential for more polish, more doodles to draw, and more storyline! I really wish that my Wacom Cintiq 22 pen worked with the game. All I get with the pen are dots - the line will not draw. I was able to use my mouse just fine but the Wacom pen would have been great.
To recap...
Likes:
- Story concept involving the earning of money, - Graphics were really nice and polished, - Doodles were fun, - Sounds and music were nice!
Improvements:
- HTML5 web player, - Wacom pen did not work, - More challenging doodles would be nice, - Ending to the game!
I would love to see future updates for this game. Good work!
Cool game. Very unique

@artofluba I looked into WebGL post-deadline but ran into a dead-end with the current approach. Because of the way our shaders use RenderTextures to blit the drawn image onto the canvas, WebGL enters a framebuffer loop and fails to render any drawing at all! I have not been able to find an alternate solution to this on my own, so if you or anyone has an idea I'd love to be able to check it out.
Regarding tablet, that should be easily accomplished! I'll take care of it together with touch support for the post-jam update. Thanks for the detailed review!
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you after you uploaded the Linux build. It works great! I love this game! My wife is an artist that used to do commissions, so I get all the feels here. XD She'll love tablet support if you build that in.
