LD51 — Every 10 seconds

10-Second Mechanism by GreenRadiation 2022-10-04T11:07:41Z

Really neat concept! I like the tension and stress over making your way into an unknown room with only a few seconds on the clock to find a charging station. However, that element of tension is also a bit of a downside sometimes- it can lead to trial-and-error scenarios where you cannot foresee the consequences of your actions. This makes the puzzles a bit less about thinking and a bit more about just trying stuff, which is a shame since the base mechanics here are really compelling. Additionally a little bit of feedback on the generators (for when the gate opens) would be nice.

Overall I really liked this a lot! The lighting is great visually, and the piano soundtrack is perfect for this kind of game.

HighRise Rampage by Zyger 2022-10-05T12:26:37Z

Really fun loop! I agree with everything above, that the game has a stellar atmosphere and could benefit from enemies. I additionally think the grenade is super overpowered compared to the gun- using the gun I sometimes got stuck on tiny pieces of geometry, an issue that the grenade avoids. Nevertheless, a very clean and fun end result!

Alfred, Coffee Pot [WIP] by fosf0 2022-10-05T13:32:02Z

The art direction is fantastic, as said above, and because the movement is a bit slow you really get a lot of time to take it in. I agree that the game could use some checkpoints, but it additionally could do with a bit of telegraphing for the lasers, since the jump mechanic is not super quick to respond to your input. Nevertheless, a very classy product with a ton of visual flair and character!

Fruits Frenzy by Bloodbane 2022-10-05T12:13:11Z

This is a lovely game! The basic loop is easy to understand and execute, and everything has a proper vibrancy to it. The requested fruit changing, as well as the very fact that you can eat fruit, though, could be communicated more clearly to the player since you otherwise run the risk of players going towards a certain fruit and being punished for it because it coincides with a fruit change. Nevertheless a really nice take on the genre!

Speed Dating for Misfits by itsBoats 2022-10-05T13:14:15Z

Cute game! I enjoyed the cast and especially the clean look and feel of the UI. I think the blackjack worm is a wonderful inclusion, and if you plan on expanding this framework, would love to see more of these interactive changes of pace.

BUN-hop by bqq 2022-10-04T08:15:15Z

This game has a superb atmosphere and feel to it. The music kicking in when the huge timer in the background starts is an amazing touch, and I love the 'knowledge checkpoints' of learning about your character's latent potential. Very nicely done.

Low On Power by Tatha 2022-10-04T08:06:18Z

This is really cool! I so desperately wanted this to keep going after the initial few screens. The vibe is great, helped especially by the lovely backdrop and truly excellent music. It's a shame there was no opportunity to expand upon the mechanics, especially since after that first stretch, there is rarely ever the tension of whether you'll find enough fuel. Another minor issue is that going left at the start has you sinking through the floor. Nevertheless, what's here is very compelling.

Ophanim's Eyes by GenericParadox 2022-10-04T10:47:38Z

This is a super neat game! The sound design is suitably terrifying, and the premise is clear right away. I really like dispensing information every 10 seconds, rather than affecting some other change- it means there is not that much waiting and quite a bit of tension.

As much as I love the belt conceptually, I do wonder if it would have been better off as a HUD element somehow. Looking down does add tension, since you're not looking at the level while you do it, but this information is all the player has, and broadcasting it a bit more clearly might engender more responsive and thoughtful play. Not sure.

Either way the current state is really cool, well done!

Face the Weird Worms! by Brovovar 2022-10-05T12:56:08Z

Agreed with everything said above! The humor is great, the mechanics are a bit clunky. I wish there was a way to tell where you were being teleported to, or some way to ensure that the player doesn't spawn somewhere they will immediately take damage, which happened to me a few times. Nevertheless, a charming end-product!

Paper Spirits by galaxybat 2022-10-04T08:26:35Z

This is, indeed, a vibe! The aurora-like texture over the lake is absolutely beautiful, and the whole thing indeed has a tinge of sadness to it. I wish there was a bit of feedback being near/interacting with the water, like gentle ambient wave-sounds, or a small splash when the paper boats are released into the water. In spite of that, a very lovely experience.
