LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Grapecheese by jandourek 2022-04-05T17:02:58Z

My immersion is ruined, 0/10. Jokes aside, while it's a little rough around the edges I had a good time with this game! The characters and their humour, the upbeat tune on the overworld, the boss fights, the main character's little waddle and throwing explosive wheels of flaming cheese make this a joy to play through in spite of its shortcomings. I think it would have been even greater with some sound effects, especially on those explosive cheese wheels, as well as a final boss projectile that's visibly distinct from the player's. Though I appreciate the chaos. Well done!

Do It Later by BauBau 2022-04-06T16:23:29Z

I love the lighting you got coming in from the side, with the ability to toggle it. More such distraction fidgets like opening window blinds, cleaning your keyboard or drinking a sip would have been really cool to add I think. I think playing the game twice causes... buying a mouse on amazon to turn on the lights, which is a dystopian scenario that works eerily well with this ambience.

I had quite a nice time with this! But I have two nitpicks I find worth bringing up, so I hope you'll indulge me. First, I think even if it was dark all day it would've been nice if the timer in the corner actually advanced. That'd help the procrastination mood even further I think! Second, using FTL material might be a little iffy for the PONG background. I think simple black would be more authentic(, as well as less of a copyright-hassle)!

Picnic Panic ! by Thiebaut Alexis 2022-04-05T21:06:01Z

I love the presentation of this game! The animations, the telegraphs, the cutscene and the way you flop around in an increasingly silly manner as you assemble more of your layers are just spectacular and managed to instantly put a smile on my face. The katamari-style zoom out is a nice touch I greatly enjoyed, though around 800 points the balancing act and hitbox size suddenly start getting harder to manage so I never saw if there was a second zoom-out later on (1000 is my high score). Great work! My top request: A way to skip the cutscene!

Rapid Reentry by ygrichman 2022-04-05T16:07:59Z

I love the mood in this game! The eerie soundtrack and vast empty fields set the stage for the quite unsettling scenario of the eventual station re-entry. I feel the game is currently held back a little by a lack of player feedback. Small animations when directing a drone where to go and when resources are obtained would go a long way in getting players to get that "aha!" moment of figuring out key strategies. Just a touch more of that and I can see this being a fun and intense strategy game to try and optimize.

Slither And Fire by J0ye 2022-04-06T16:10:33Z

A little bit on the chaotic side, but pretty f un nontheless! I love the utter ruination that sets in in the immediate vicinity as more shadow creatures spawn, leading to a bit of a tendril-like web of death that you try to protect yourself from.

It's a little hectic for my liking, mostly due to the enemy often spawning right at my doorstep, leaving me no time to protect myself. But one could argue that in this petri dish of relentless plague, that's exactly what would happen.

Well done! Surprisingly artistic for something without any explicit art.

Collapse by lizelive 2022-04-05T21:22:50Z

While unfinished, it looks really ambitious and I can see the vision behind the setting, mechanics and the likes. The potential is there, given more time and experience! And I think even in its current state, there is a lot of fun to be had by just throwing grappling hooks into various directions and watching the strings go wild. What I found particularly impressive is the scene transition and the motion the main scene undergoes. With the day/night cycle and what feels like some amount of vertical movement, there is a lot going on which, while it may not be easy to parse in its current state, shows a great dedication to the vision. If you go with a simpler concept to execute next time, I'm sure you'll do well.

Rat King by noisemaker 2022-04-06T16:26:37Z

Supremely amusing and beautiful! I love the way he just grabs people and runs off with them. It gets a little trial-and-error-y with the time limit later on, but that is no deterrent from seeing this creature's plans through to the end. Very fun!

Somnokid by Saturnyoshi 2022-04-06T16:30:58Z

More like Team Bugulong there is SO MUCH CONTENT. Love the sound design in particular!

Fight or Flight by chertkov 2022-04-05T20:55:56Z

Love the premise, and the creatures you defend yourself from are really creepy and great! My experience has unfortunately been hampered by me being unable to figure out how to actually gain more gold, so I sadly had to watch as my base slowly succumbed to an ever-growing onslaught of insectoids and cheetahs. I think with a bit more player guidance, and perhaps a small grace period at the start to let players figure out how everything works, this could be a game I could sink quite a while into.

Ice Ace by vila6 2022-04-06T15:52:38Z

Gosh I love the freeze when the bat connects with the ice. Really creative and fun entry! Thanks for making.

The Inevitable Sinking by Alpha Wolf Studios 2022-04-06T16:02:06Z

A very beautiful entry with a lot of visual appeal. Though, for this large a team I honestly expected a bit more... variety? Sorry if that sounds dismissive, but I wish obstacles scaled in more ways than just quantity and speed. Multiple hits, knocking them back, being able to dodge by moving the ship... I think those could have made the gameplay more varied.

I'll echo the remark about a very harsh rise in difficulty at level 3. The page says that "git gud" is the solution, but I feel like with 4 Designers and 2 QA testers the curve should have been a bit smoother, so that "git gud" reads more like an excuse for a low balancing commitment.

Would love to "sea" the game's mechanics expanded upon. I feel there's some potential left to be treasure-hunted here.

Sun Rush by Taek 2022-04-05T21:39:46Z

Really fun stuff! Love the visuals, the controls feel smooth and there's a real sense of powering up as you play more. The one thing it's kinda missing is increased complexity over time, but that's understandably cutting into the time budget. This is honestly just a game I'd play on mobile on long train rides and play for a while to relax, so great work! A few nitpicks: I think all purchasing options should always be visible. Also, there seems to be a bug with purchasing some of them where they give you infinite resources. (Bigger 02 Tank) Lastly, once I got about 1000m away from the sun, chunks stopped generating. It was cathartic, but not very engaging at that point :p

That Toilet... Feels so good. by Julyyyy 2022-04-07T17:22:14Z

Cozy, pretty and way too relatable. What more could you want? Frankly, some music would have been nice to drive the ambience home, but it was very enjoyable nontheless. Thanks for making!

Arrow's Theorem by Guy Girmonsky 2022-04-05T16:40:00Z

What a delightful educational trek through the world of voting systems! It's a bit rough around the edges, both visually and in terms of functionality (separating "cutscene" and "reset" button and allowing text scrolling to be advanced), but I was quickly engrossed by the practical examples of different voting scenarios you put forth. Double-check the typos, maybe add a scenario selector and perhaps get an artist friend to give it a paintjob and this would make for a great interactive counterpart to CGP Grey's old videos. I particularly liked enabling the help button and trying out different placements to see how they would cause the outcome to change.

Mushrooms of the end by Pordrack 2022-04-06T15:48:20Z

Seconding the arrow keys suggestion, as well as a hotkey to toggle the watering can. Really fun to manage, but the mouse movements are a little much to keep track of. Nevertheless very fun and well done!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

thanks, II hate it! by thristhart 2022-10-04T01:01:31Z

This splendid game could have only been improved by making it zoom out, revealing further and further rings of minigames until none of them were playable anymore.

Binary Blasterz『ロボット 弾幕』 by Junber 2022-10-04T00:41:47Z

Ha, very clever use of the theme. And a very stylish and fun game to boot! I think when you start multitasking with the turret is when this game gets really fun and tricky. Would love to see a few more backgrounds perhaps in those stages to indicate more of a progression, but I understand that time is tight, and the end result is worth playing either way.

autoball by torcado 2022-10-05T13:57:21Z

this is SO addictive hot diggity only round 92 high score right now but im chasing that high again

Résumé by croze 2022-10-04T00:50:16Z

Put THAT on your resumé :smirk:

It's a little jank, but nevertheless enjoyable. I wish there was a bit more to do! Though perhaps I was just bad at finding things. I DID manage to find ultimate safety though :p

Smack Demon by Firebelley 2022-10-04T10:26:23Z

Pretty neat! I wish there was more action and less walking, though. It gets a bit wait-heavy.

Gravity by Asue 2022-10-04T04:06:14Z

Really relaxing mood! I know the game wants me to actively try and survive, but with these visuals and sounds I just wanna fling my guy into a random direction and watch them drift for a minute. I think just doing that and seeing where I end up without worrying about any dangers is very fun in its own right. Thanks for making! I really enjoyed this.

My Creatures by Itskdog 2022-10-04T00:19:05Z

Absolutely adorable! They did a great job. I wish it was a bit easier to start with, though. Had to watch my initial 2 creatures die a lot before seeing them flourish.

My Creatures by Itskdog 2022-10-04T00:33:07Z

@itskdog Ahh, that makes sense. I ran into balancing issues with my submission as well. They always seem to take up more time than you'd want them to. Hopefully you can find a good balance. If I may throw an idea into the ring: Perhaps making it adaptive would be a good solution? Decreasing the leniency over time by mix of hatched/alive creatures (up to a limit).

Swapwood Quest R by Saturnyoshi 2022-10-04T04:39:13Z

i dare team brugulon to make a game where you play as a dog and make it as epic as this

The Crumbly Fumbly by Lezzlebit 2022-10-05T12:48:43Z

Super fun and intense! I love how the music accentuates the breaking of each chunk and how tight it gets, especially in the hard mode. Would love to see more levels :p

Dreihander by Defrag 2022-10-04T00:28:34Z

Super cool! The dynamic between the 3 mechanics is very creative and decently executed. Though since "Heal" already provides downtime from the chaos, "run" is perhaps a bit underpowered, and I wish the turn rate on "Shoot" was better so that you can't get flanked and combo'd as easily. Sounds and music are a definite standout to me. The eerie and intense atmosphere they craft imbues this arena and these geometric baddies with great personality. Great work!

Dreihander by Defrag 2022-10-05T00:42:50Z

@defrag Oh wow, you're right! I am the fool for never releasing the trigger, hah. Just goes to show how satisfying it is to hold that bad boy down ;p

Sally's Scribbles by Enjl 2022-10-04T14:07:10Z

Thanks for all the feedback so far! It's putting big smiles on our faces and we're super happy you're having fun.

The drawing calculations, as brought up by @justabread @bqq @m11 @chaikadev and @zd-elise are indeed a tough nut to crack in this short a timeframe. They're by far the thing that took longest in all the game, and indeed for the time being we just went with a generous approach to ensure everyone trying the game could experience it to its fullest rather than making it accidentally unfair.

I've been brainstorming for and researching about ways to improve it since the deadline and have several things I want to try, for a post-jam period update that the team and I want to do.

For those interested in looking behind the current curtains, I wrote a brief explanation [here](https://hastebin.com/esonutuwij.py).

Sally's Scribbles by Enjl 2022-10-08T04:26:12Z

@coda-highland Yo! Just got around to adding Linux and Mac builds to the itch.io page.

https://enjl.itch.io/sallys-scribbles

It is my first time downloading and using the relevant unity build targets so I hope it went smoothly.

Sally's Scribbles by Enjl 2022-10-18T01:09:13Z

@finn-pickart Ahhhh I feared it might be a problem. This is my first time checking out other unity build targets, so I foolishly assumed it would just spit out something that works, like for Windows. Gonna have to dig more into it.

Sally's Scribbles by Enjl 2022-10-19T08:11:40Z

@artofluba I looked into WebGL post-deadline but ran into a dead-end with the current approach. Because of the way our shaders use RenderTextures to blit the drawn image onto the canvas, WebGL enters a framebuffer loop and fails to render any drawing at all! I have not been able to find an alternate solution to this on my own, so if you or anyone has an idea I'd love to be able to check it out.

Regarding tablet, that should be easily accomplished! I'll take care of it together with touch support for the post-jam update. Thanks for the detailed review!

Finest Urban Planning by Fnessa 2022-10-05T11:13:30Z

Very ambitious, making a cycle-based 3D platformer in this short a time. It's a little rough, but it feels like it's just a polishing step or two away from being very enjoyable. The camera sensitivity in fullscreen in particular seems like the biggest hurdle to getting into this, as it is way high. Still, a very good result given the difficulty of the task at hand!

Low On Power by Tatha 2022-10-05T11:30:26Z

Cool playground for this idea of feeding off enemies to survive! It's perhaps a bit too lenient in that running and mashing the attack button renders you virtually unkillable, but that's nothing that can't be tweaked. The addition of the kind of... full power overcharge mode? is something I really enjoyed. It's a very fun and satisfying reward for staying on top of your power levels. Thanks for make!

MAGICAE CATUS by chaikadev 2022-10-05T11:23:29Z

On the venn diagram of things I enjoy this mix of cat and shmup hits the bulls-eye, and I really like the concept it's presenting as well. It's a bit mindless at the moment, as endless onslaughts of the same enemy tend to be, but I think that shouldn't distract from the core idea being enjoyable and worth expanding upon.

Since I'm a shmup-fanatic, some general notes that may be worth considering:

- Shmups tend to have snappier movement, to make dodging easier. I found myself drifting into bullets quite a bit, which can be frustrating.

- Most shmups don't have the bullets fly in the direction of movement, but instead straight-up. That makes it easier to position yourself, and also easier to build predictable bullet patterns based on enemy and the player's position.

- Some frames of invulnerability after getting hit might be nice to have for the player. Enemies tend to not have them because it's more satisfying to blast away at them, but getting combo'd yourself feels a bit bad.

I hope these can be of help when it comes to the itch updates. Keep it up!

Polyhedron by Skeptes 2022-10-18T12:51:22Z

Have to do something else so I'm stopping at 81, though I could've gone for another 100 or so. Very fun and to the point! My only complaint with regards to game feel is that the feedback (color change, sound effects) seem a little delayed from when the key press happens. Having them go WHAM! Straight when the finger touches the key would add a lot to the mood I think. The math shakeups were very funny.

Every Ten Seconds Counts by Maaack 2022-10-04T03:56:24Z

Super cool! I love how you combined time with a text adventure to create a very dynamic environment. The different solutions are also very cool to see. Though I have to say that the time mechanic takes a bit of a backseat once snuck inside the building. But perhaps I just took a very fortuitous path. In any case, I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for make!

You Fix Spaceships! by BeetleBox 2022-10-04T10:23:02Z

Adorable stuff! I had a good time listening to their stories and I love their goofy shapes and lifestyles. Truck Ghost is my favourite.

Tiny Time Jockey (Future) by other thinking 2022-10-05T11:39:21Z

A bit limited by the theme because of how much there is to read, but I like the concept! Deciphering their messages at rapid speed and then getting it right is very rewarding. Perhaps there should be an intro screen where all your records can be viewed, before the night begins, to take away from the initial time crunch?

The music is stellar, and the dancers all look like swell ladies and gentlemen. Though I encountered a situation where my mouse got stuck in the bottom left corner of the screen, making navigation a bit awkward.

Great work overall!

Sort Me Right Out by omphh 2022-10-04T10:43:22Z

Oh gee I'm gonna need a faster mouse for this one  Very addictive and great spread of new mechanics to keep things fresh.
