I like it, the art is cool, the ship is cute and the cannon makes funny sounds. Great Game!

smiley 2022-04-05 03:53

wow that was a lot of people involved :D

It was very easy at first but got insane diffcult at level 3. I loved that a hot dog was an enemy :D

raphiell 2022-04-05 03:55

As you have a studio, the quality is high! Great art and great music. I found the gameplay a bit repetitive. I got to level 3.

fosf0 2022-04-05 03:57

I really liked the art, and the music is great! The game is addictive, very well;)

purpoappo 2022-04-05 04:00

Level 3 has a very big increase in difficulty

proxy-games 2022-04-05 04:39

The graphics and music here were very nicely done! The gameplay is simple, but entertaining, especially with all the enemy types (I'm sorry, Ariel. I never wanted to hurt you.).

The sound effects were generally good, but the bell dong from firing started to get grating. Since this is in Unity, and I'm imagining the bell dong is from one audio source, a simple randomized float applied to the audio source's pitch before playing the sound would work to break up the monotony.

The game was easy, until, like everyone else, Level 3 decided to come around and show me why I shouldn't relax. (Ariel got her revenge.)

Nice game! Had a lot of fun with it.

str8griz 2022-04-05 04:42

@purpoappo Winner! XD

I will take on all challengers!

Fun game, wrist hurt by the end I must be getting old.

codexzier 2022-04-05 07:08

Wow. Big Team. Greate work. I hope I can manage to get so many people together to write a game. :)

lea251 2022-04-05 07:52

Very nice! Great Art and Music! Enemy pictures are fun:-) It starts really easy and gets very hard pretty fast so a bit more of balancing would help.

katasunder 2022-04-05 08:59

Its very addictive! nice work <3 <3

nash 2022-04-05 11:27

A good example of a game where solid art style and polish can make a simple idea a lot more engaging.

It would be interesting to hear how a team of this size managed to contribute to the game. Big jam teams are always a challenge!

mlho7 2022-04-05 12:43

Addictive game, simple, efficient, well done.

francisco-poluyan 2022-04-05 14:37

@nash Thank you! It was a really challenging Jam for the Art Team but they managed to get everything going on!

kazuren 2022-04-05 14:44

Fun game! Reminded me of those FPS aiming practice games :D

3lstmsinatrenchcoat 2022-04-05 14:48

The gameplay is quite simple, but it works reasonably well. I had fun. I like how the music is blatantly trying to come as close as possible to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme without actually being it.

Also, according to data downloaded from the API this the largest team in Ludum Dare history (or at least since LD38, which is how far back the data goes) by a wide margin. The next largest is 17. Thought you might like to know that.

nicolasjl9 2022-04-05 15:42

@nash Hi! Art Director here, first time with a group so big, it was really challenging and there were some complications at first, but adding one Lead to help with organization really got us going on the right direction! We set a fixed lineart, and a colour palette, form there we started with corrections on every sprite to get a cohesive artstyle overall. If you have any other doubt, feel free to ask about anything (:

mikomoares 2022-04-05 17:48

Wow! Big team.

Cool game!

Liked the visuals! Well done

pickyburrito49 2022-04-05 17:53

Well done! Quite enjoyable overall and I appreciated that part of the difficulty scaling was the camera zooming out. I may have 'shot' myself in the foot as I was constantly clicking on my ship thinking that it was sinking, then moving to get the enemies, then back to the ship. It wasn't untill I got hit that it gave me a hammer for repairing (though it didn't seem to lower the level of water in my ship) and then it was back to shooting the enemies. Two thumbs up to you all!

francisco-poluyan 2022-04-05 17:54

@smiley here in Argentina it's called a "Choripan" xD. Glad you like it dude! First time in a jam with such a big team, it was quite an experience.

2022-04-05 17:54

I really liked the game. It has an amazing art style, all the enemies look great and have something unique. Their movement is sometimes unpredictable and that's really annoying, well done. I also liked the music, the sound effects and all the visual effects on the background, the transitions between levels are cool. Great game!!

olguinne 2022-04-05 17:58

I liked the visuals and humour! The gameplay is simple, but addictive, it was fun to try to survive longer. Hoped to see Freddy, but my couple of trials was unlcuky. Thanks! Great job!

andre-sadie 2022-04-05 18:08

Interesting take on the theme. Nice art and plenty of variation. The game is addictive and quickly gets challenging. Just wish there was more to it.

kristinamay 2022-04-05 19:21

Hoooly wow this game gets hard. The click target for that lil anchor is tough! I love the vibe of this game - great work y'all!

gandelianna 2022-04-05 21:20

What a great big team! My record is 149 sec I think I will play a bit more:D

helen 2022-04-05 21:50

Great game, seems the most difficult task was to manage all the people :) I liked all the different enemies and the 'wait, was there a ufo dropping a cow at my ship?' moments :D

joedev 2022-04-05 22:55

This went from 'this is so easy!' to 'my wrist is falling off' in about 2 minutes! 😂 Good fun, I loved the whacky enemies and simple but fun game design.

minibobbo 2022-04-06 00:48

I'd echo many of the same sentiments already said here. I would have liked some feedback on the firing and maybe some animations on the destruction of the increasingly silly enemies. It was fun to play a single time but I don't think I'd get a better score if I played again. sinking.png

matt-rice 2022-04-06 02:43

Ahh yes, the pirates worst fears: Hotdogs. Great job this was a lot of fun! I liked how quickly the difficulty scaled. Though I think the first part of it dragged a little more because there were so few threats. Loved the music by the way, it felt very piratey!

borabee 2022-04-06 03:20

Very fun game with a simple and innovative concept that was wonderfully executed. Art is very polished and well done, plus super inventive that you managed to come up with so many different obstacles!

duckonaut 2022-04-06 10:30

very pretty art although with the amount of effort put into art i expected a bit more gameplay variation, the difficulty scaling is also weirdly harsh

she-wrote 2022-04-06 10:52

Fun game. I like the story, the art is pretty good, and there is a lot of creativity in the enemy designs

leom 2022-04-06 12:34

Nice one, just a huge step in the difficulty on lvl 3 (144s for me) I'm confused by the team size ! What did all thoses peoples ? Their is not enouth work for 15 artists on 2 or 3 days ? Still a nice game ^^

dining-philosopher 2022-04-06 14:45

Wow first time I see such a huge team for a game jam! I'd be interested to read a bit about the development process, when and how did you make decisions for the game? What was the biggest challenge in making it? I think a big risk with such a large team is that everyone has their own idea what the game should be (especially the game designers) and noone feels ownership anymore. I liked the diversity and absurdity of the artwork, gameplay is not really my thing and the difficulty scaling is too sudden for me at level 3.

davide-rossetto 2022-04-06 15:58

Man, the difficulty ramps up quickly :joy: Neat game, the art is amazing and the gameplay simple but effective. Good job! :v:

enjl 2022-04-06 16:02

A very beautiful entry with a lot of visual appeal. Though, for this large a team I honestly expected a bit more... variety? Sorry if that sounds dismissive, but I wish obstacles scaled in more ways than just quantity and speed. Multiple hits, knocking them back, being able to dodge by moving the ship... I think those could have made the gameplay more varied.

I'll echo the remark about a very harsh rise in difficulty at level 3. The page says that "git gud" is the solution, but I feel like with 4 Designers and 2 QA testers the curve should have been a bit smoother, so that "git gud" reads more like an excuse for a low balancing commitment.

Would love to "sea" the game's mechanics expanded upon. I feel there's some potential left to be treasure-hunted here.

francisco-poluyan 2022-04-06 16:46

@enjl Hey, glad you like the game and thank you for your feedback. First time ever working with such a big size team so the most difficult job was to organize all the departments involved. Trust me, that takes a long time and it takes even MORE time and effort if you don't have experience managing a lot of people:) Also, we are a group of students from a college dedicated to video games, where this year we have the presence of new first-year students with the premise of "carry a rookie", so yeah, it was pretty cool but challenging.

Thank you for your comment, we hope you enjoy your time playing The Inevitable Sinking.

forgin-bits 2022-04-06 21:46

Wow, huge team ! So each one of you picked a different enemy to include into the game, right ? I want to know who picked the rocket penguin, the evil toilet bowl and the hot dog  very simple concept, funny for a while. Good job !

bqq 2022-04-06 22:25

Starts off a bit slow but gets surprisingly engaging with when the screen gets full of enemies :D I'm not sure what I lost to in end though. Nice work!

amerigo-gazaway 2022-04-07 07:47

Haha that was so much fun to play! Loved the silly premise, art style and the game had some really nice 'juice' fx with all the background changes and camera movements. Not sure if the music/sfx are original but if so great work on that too. And if not let me know if you're ever in need of that sort of thing! Great work

mmemim 2022-04-07 16:54

I thought I could manage at first but it quickly became Expert Osu map levels of difficulty ahah! Maybe I should try again with my tablet... Got 150 seconds or so though! Nice concept and good execution.

allax 2022-04-07 19:54

Great game! Very addictive and the art is just perfect. Good job!

abdonatioera 2022-04-07 21:08

Nice entry. The music was great, and it was funny seeing all the weird stuff coming at your ship. It did seem to get very difficult at about 120ish seconds in, which is were I lost. Maybe try smoothing out the difficulty curve a bit.

maxpowergd 2022-04-08 02:22

Ta piola porque es de piratas uwu

squimmy 2022-04-08 14:14

The gameplay was fairly routine, but it was was frantic and eclectic enough that it works.

Good job.

n00b 2022-04-09 02:47

It was alright, but it didn't really do anything all that original.

pious 2022-04-09 03:39

This was pretty engaging! I felt the energy ramp up! And wow what a big team. The hand drawn art is cute however I see that the art team is big and what I saw was mostly a bunch of kind cohesive but also independent drawings tweened in. It's definitely well put, but in the future, perhaps have the drawings at least be of similar size/scale so it looks more cohesive?

angiemon 2022-04-11 09:58

Screenshot 2022-04-11 at 11.51.25.png

haha, what a wild ride! Love this. Graphics were cute. Music was fantastical and fitting. The way the enemies move moved and turned made this into a real nice challenge!

But whyyyy exactly is Arielle an enemy?! ^^ That's not what Disney taught me! :D

Nice entry, could be a smartphone game :) (since tapping is even more intuitive, might have to crank up the wavering of the enemies/projectiles)

I'm glad I made it to level 3 to be able to see Zeus, a Toilet, Spaceship, Turtles, Angry Birds and whatnot attack me, hehe.

From a graphic design point of view this could be a bit improved, your Text can be scaled down and not all over the screen, and also Serif Fonts aren't really great for continous text, for example in the credits I would have either only made the names or the titles in that font and the rest in a Sans-Serif.

But since this is a gamejam, I'm sure time ran out ^^

If you plan to continue to work on this, you might wanna step up your "legally safe knock-off" game :p

Good job guys!

blooalain 2022-04-13 04:09

Nice simple game with lovely gameplay and a cute aesthetic. Would love to see how it improves, especially on the polish end with more particles/effects for example. Great job!

doot 2022-04-16 19:15

Cool little game!

I liked the simple mechanic, even if as other said the difficulty curve is a bit out there on level 3. I still got up to 158! Zeus is so annoying haha.

strega 2022-04-17 06:22

I got just over 160s! It really ramps up very suddenly. The music and SFX were great. There's lots of art variety going on, but I felt like playing in browser the details got a little lost especially when the camera zoomed out more. It was a bit hard to tell how damaged my ship was. But overall, the franticness was still fun.
