ALL PLANED by Sirkovitch 2021-10-09T04:20:56Z

This is such a hilarious and charming game. I love the overall art style, with the appealing low poly 3D environment and the adorable 2D sprites for the characters. The transition from the main menu to the game itself is really impressive, and the gameplay is unique in how it forces players to play see saw with the plane to get it where it needs to go. The music itself is also great, and aids to the hilarious reveal of the gameplay itself, and the sound effects are well done (I felt so bad while also laughing when I heard the cute passenger screams from flying off the top of the plane). This was a lot of fun. Great work!

Fractured Edge by Samuli 2021-10-19T07:58:44Z

Well, this is certainly one of the most unique games of the jam. While I was forced to use the emulator, the effect of using an oscilloscope and the unique style that would come with that was not lost. I've forgotten about the charm of vector-like graphics, and the music feeling like it had come out of the 80s or 90s certainly fits in with the style. The gameplay works well enough, and I love how the lines making the environment warp and distort as your health gets lower and lower. Overall, *very* impressive entry. Amazing work!

PTSD Fishing by KuKuRammus 2021-10-19T07:46:42Z

This is a very nice experience. The pixelart here is very nice, and the sound designs work well to set the mood. The implementation of the theme via PTSD is well done, and it feels like the disorder was incorporated in a respectful way. The gameplay is very slow and simple, but it works well enough. I do wish there was more here, as it was a game I stuck with for about 5 minutes before getting the impression that I could in it. Despite that, this is a nice entry. Good job.

You won't believe your result from this personality test! by allthebees 2021-10-09T02:53:13Z

This is a very weird, but fun entry. The bad way I can describe this game is like the game jam was a question on a test, and this game is the answer by the smartass in the classroom. I love the satirical nature of it, taking a rip on the generic online personality quizzes. There's not much to say here, honestly. It is what it is. Very creative and unique interpretation of the theme.

UNFRGH is the best personality type. Don't @ me.

P.T. Bone-um's Fabulous Tightrope of Terror by Kyrio 2021-10-19T07:35:40Z

It's a very charming game. I did play the original jam version of the game, so some of these complaints may be fixed. The sprite work, art style, and the music are all nicely done and cohesive. The gameplay is a simple but effective infinitive runner, and the introduction of failing lights as a mechanic to keep players on their toes is very well done. The main gameplay problem I noticed was that the player would be thrown up off the ground a little if they land on the corner of a ledge. This would often leave me flying into an obstacle I had no way of responding to since you can't jump in midair. Other than that little annoyance, I enjoyed my time with this. Nice work.

Cthulhu goes to Work by battlecoder 2021-10-06T04:25:08Z

The art in this absolute beautiful, and the music is simple but very catchy. I also love how the intro artwork builds up this game as very serious, but then it suddenly cuts to Cthulhu working as a server. That was really well done build up towards a joke. The gameplay is simple, but addicting, balancing food on two different trays to keep both around the same weight. I do wish the game was paced a bit faster, as it took a while before the game started introducing new food types with different weights that make balancing the trays a lot more difficult. Overall, this was a lot of fun. Good job.

Pistolman by lekaleksay 2021-10-06T02:40:54Z

This game is decent and I had a bit of fun with it. The controls were a bit disorienting as the controls to move the pistolman don't match up well with the camera. It also seems like some of the containers don't have collision so I was able to walk into them and hide from the police bulb guys. Other than that, it was a interesting game. Seeing pistolman dance on the victory screen was not the kind of reward I was expecting, but I'll take it.

Stack Droid Saves The Party by Shawn Beck 2021-10-06T05:20:14Z

This game is absolutely adorable. The graphics are really strong with this one, having well done models and textures, adorable stop motion-ish animations, and good post processing work. The dialogue is very charming, and the incorporation of the theme by stacking physics with your mouth is a unique take on the concept. I did have the stack I was making glitch out I few times because it fell over after it fell off my head, which was frustrating. It might be better to have the stack get placed in front of the player. I imagine this would be a lot more complicated, and with the time constraints, this is a very well done submission. Great work.

The Salatroitsk Incident by DrunkardWolf 2021-10-09T08:02:50Z

Well, this is the scariest game of the jam so far for me. The PS1 style lends itself to the horror genre really well, and the sound effects and ambience here are high-quality. The gameplay *is* pretty similar to Slender, but considering this is a short 5 to 10 minute experience, I don't consider that a bad thing-the gameplay loop of Slender works well in short bursts. This is a nicely rounded out submission for the compo. I can't really think of anything negative about this game, other than maybe the iterative gameplay, but that'd only be for people who are sick of Slender-style games.

Unstable escape by Tory 2021-10-05T20:39:58Z

I love the music and graphics on this one, and the physics from the center console falling through the ceiling were a lot of fun. Gameplay is simplistic, but it encourages exploration of the environments which I feel were the highlight here.

Deep Space Defenders by megalukes 2021-10-06T04:40:23Z

This is a really fun game. It is a relatively simple tower defense-like game, but it's a comes together really nicely due to the simple, but really pleasing pixel art and due to the excellent sound design. The song during gameplay in this one is easily my favorite out of the jam, and I'd be lying if I were to try to claim that my head didn't start bobbing with the rhythm. I might be bias though since I love electronic music. Overall, this is really nice work.

Globs With Guns by Zachary Shah 2021-10-09T04:54:52Z

Really nice game. The simple art style is charming, and almost hearkens back to Atari-era games. The sound effects are also very simple to match, but it helps keep the presentation cohesive. I do wish there was some kind of music in the game, though. It feels quite empty without it.

The gameplay is nice, being a twin-stick shooter with the moving and shooting gameplay being divided into separate time segments. It works well, though it can become obnoxious when all enemies are gone. I was more surprised by the inclusion of a story of sorts, with the two characters talking back and forth to each other. It was very charming.

Overall, it was a short, simple game that told a nice story and had a neat gameplay mechanic. Nice submission.

ENTROPY by egawag 2021-10-19T07:29:18Z

This is a really simple concept, but it's executed very wonderfully. The aesthetics are gorgeous, and very well done for the game jam. The music as well is the some of the best of the game jam. The gameplay mechanic is simple, but it's very well done. Grappling onto cubes is very satisfying, and there's enough control to it to prevent yourself from just slamming into the cube you're grappled onto. The introduction of each stage with the cubes slowly rising to the beat of the music is very well done, and sets the mood very strongly during the first time playing. There isn't much else I can say here, honestly. This is just a really well done experience. Wonderful work!

Day Broken by UglySwedishFish 2021-10-05T21:02:27Z

This game and engine are VERY impressive, man. It gives me heavy "Outlast" vibes, and it was a strong atmosphere. I also love how the mesh, textures, and audio are all accessible from the folder. For someone like me, who loves to look into game files to see how things work together, this was basically heaven. The graphics and post process are high-quality and almost professional looking. It does bother me that the first person camera doesn't clamp it's vertical rotation, so you can rotate the camera all the way around, but that's easy to ignore. I really wish that there was a retry option without having to listen to the computer again, as it really hurts the atmosphere the game's trying to build up and can make things tedious.

JAAPC by Erlatronics 2021-10-05T20:25:16Z

The art style here is simple colored faces, but it works really well and looks nice, though some parts of the level (particularly for the second level) are too dark, and I can't really see where I'm going. I really like the falling rocks and debris on the first level. The camera trailing farther behind the rover the faster it's going is smooth and a nice touch, and the basic bouncy moments for the rover are good. I feel that the thrust is way too likely to send the rover into doing a bunch of flips, though, considering how essential it is to escaping the fog-like thing that is chasing the player.

Office Novice by HermesEs 2021-10-09T03:20:29Z

This game is so charming and full of personality. The art style is very cute and appealling, and the amount of different assets for the environment are impressive. The sound design is also generally good, and the gameplay is fun and more relatable than most would like to admit. I think the thing that stand out to me the most, though, is the amount of charm and storytelling potential this game has based off of its mechanics. I won't forget the three dirtwads that were blokcking the way to the coffee machine, forcing me to go around the table and pushing several chairs out of the way, and I definitely won't be forgetting the heavy metal segment that resulted in the employees breaking, like, 3 different windows while I was just trying to answer the phone. Wonderful work.

Unstable Delivery by MrBlue 2021-10-06T04:16:41Z

I really enjoyed the submission. The simple art style was appealing, and the arrow indicating where to go being based on the actual roads rather than the general direction was a really good touch. I felt a little weird about the crates falling into the truck at the start, if only because it would be 1)I couldn't hold down the forward key until they all feel in, and 2)It meant some crates would likely fall out based off no fault of my own. I do wish also wish this game had sound effects, as it hurts the game and makes it feel kinda empty and lifeless. I still had a lot of fun with this, though. I also would like to give props to you for responding to feedback in such a detailed manner. It shows you are really paying attention to the comments. Good job.

Nuclear Danger by Fluffy_Kaeloky 2021-10-06T03:30:01Z

This was a really fun game. The graphics are appealing, and the Russian music playing over me accidentally nuking myself for the seventh time in the row was very amusing. Props to the inclusion of controller support. In addition, the main game play mechanic is both fun to use to solve the puzzles, and fun to mess around with (slamming the hammer into the guys face while he chats with me was a lot of fun, though I wish he would respond). The physics are a little finicky, and sometimes things don't respond like they're meant to (I had the radio go under the map while trying to smash it with a hammer). Other than that, this game was a lot of fun.

Unstable Fury by Wizard 2021-10-05T19:48:15Z

Pretty fun and simple game. The stability mechanic makes it interesting and encourages memorization of the map in order to get back to areas where stability can be increased. I was worried about the game being a bit to simplistic when I was first playing, but the unexpected inclusion of guards that will get in your way helps add an extra layer in the later sections of the game.

WOLFGUN by sodaraptor 2021-10-09T05:04:39Z

Had fun with this one. The graphics are very well done, with nice-looking low-poly art and nicely-made sprites. The music and sound effects are really good as well. The gameplay is a pretty simple twin-stick shooter, but works well. Though, it does seem like the enemy movements freak out a bit from time to time-the enemies will be moving slowly and then the next thing I know they are launching themselves at me, and there seems to be very little indication of when it's going to happen (if it was intentional). Despite that, the gameplay is very satisfying. Great work, overall.

Tetrawave by zinnin 2021-10-09T06:28:06Z

I really love the twist on Tetris here, where the entire playboard shifts back and forth depending on the weight distrbution-it's such a unique take on the game that focuses people to play very differently. The artstyle is simple but appealing, matching the synthwave style (I actually did something similar for my own game). The music works well and keeping things lively. Overall, great job-I lost track of time playing this and managed to get onto the scoreboard with 55000. It's more addicting than it has any right to be, and I love it.

Neon Tower by Sli 2021-10-05T22:24:17Z

This game is simple, but it works really well that away. The glowing aesthetics of the game are very pleasing to the eye while still being simple enough for players to be able to see the scene clearly, and the music is a nice addition. I love the addition of more points for more difficult to use shapes as it helps incorporate a high-risk, high-reward system.

Drillte by Yokin 2021-10-05T20:12:50Z

The sprite art here is really nice and fluid, and the movement system for the rocket feels real floaty and nice. The drilling system for the asteroids are also real well done, and the gameplay mechanic of dragging asteroids into the star to prevent destruction is real enjoyable.

Wilson's Lab by Nebrazif 2021-10-06T02:48:05Z

This is such a charming game. The well-designed gorilla character in the background and the jungle music give this a very nice cohesive feeling, and gives it a lot of character to boot. It fits the theme well, with well-designed levels that must be shifted and moved around to get slime into a test tube. This is a well-polished game, and I could honestly see this as a mobile game due to the portrait orientation.

Mysterious Mine by TheGamerASD 2021-10-09T03:25:44Z

I like the eerie mood of the game, and the PS1-esque artstyle is always weird charming. The limited view distance helps give a feeling of being trapped. Ambient sound effects are good at making players very anxious, but the jumpscare was kind of weak, honestly. Anyone who has played Slender knows the kind of gameplay to expect, and it works entirely fine here. I love the subtle headbob-a lot of games tend to overdo it, but it's not too crazy here. Overall, nice work.

Time Rift by Unrivaled Super Hottie 2021-10-09T02:04:44Z

I really love the ambition on this one, and some aspects of the project really shine in this game jam. The graphics are astonishing and music is pretty good. Unfortunately, I feel like this game suffered quite a bit from the time constraints. Some aspects of the movement work wonderfully (I am impressed with how smoothly vaulting is), and I love the first person camera and arm animations. However, the movement feels "off", and I find myself struggling to do precise platforming since it feels like the character sometimes just launches itself.

This game does seem to suffer from the same problem that games like *Mirror's Edge* and *Dying Light* do, in which some players really struggle with first person platforming due to the lack of depth perception from being on one screen. In addition to that, the game really hurts from a lack of polish. I appreciate the settings menu, but I noticed that the music and sound sliders don't seem to work. I noticed that a lot of the level didn't seem to be fitted together properly, and that there was a lot of places the player could peek into places they weren't supposed to.

Screenshot (20).png Screenshot (21).png

There was also another critical issue in the game where the future and past levels don't seem to match up perfectly, and the player can accidently teleport themselves out of bounds as a result, forcing them to restart. The main one I noticed was right after the initial tutorial for how to time warp, and I included two images of the hallway in question. Since the future hallway is wider, if the player stands on the far side of the hallway in the future and time warps to the past, they'll be knocked out of bounds and fall into the void.

Screenshot (19).png Screenshot (22).png

It's a shame because I love the idea of this game (It feels very similar to the level in Titanfall 2 where the player can switch between the future and the past to traverse) and can see the potential of the game and the work that went into it. It really feels like it just needed a few more days of work on it to really shine. As someone who's a fan of first person parkour-like games, I would really love to see an updated version of this game, cause this game is a *lot* of fun. I appreciate the hard work and the ambition of your team here.

Toy Tactics by JoeShanahan 2021-10-19T07:18:52Z

I enjoyed the use of XCOM-like mechanics for this one. It's a very unique entry gameplay wise for the jam, and it works pretty well overall. The art style is appealing, and the music sets the scene well. The levels in the jam version are still enjoyable, even if the gameplay mechanics basically demand more fleshed out levels. I did have issues with controls during the jetpack, and I had one instance where I actually couldn't control the first person camera for some reason. Other than those minor issues, I really enjoyed this one. Great work!

Unstable States by ELBIDEV 2021-10-05T20:00:09Z

It was a lot of fun trying to move forward in the level while responding to the player's unexpected changes in form and abilities. I did feel like it lacked a sense of direction, though. I didn't really know what I was meant to do.

F%$#IN BIRDS! by Substain 2021-10-05T19:54:24Z

This game is hilarious, both from the concept and from the fact that I know I look like an idiot blowing air into my microphone from an inch away. I kept giving up and laughing at around 10 feet into it, and just watched the poor gymnast fall to his death.

Blast Blocks by SciDev 2021-10-06T03:09:26Z

This is really good. The puzzles are well-designed and required a decent amount of thought, and are open-ended enough to have multiple correct ways of doing it. The main gameplay mechanic of affect blocks within a certain radius is simple enough for most to be able to play the game, but also allows for a lot of fun ideas and further development upon it for different ways to affect the blocks.

Unbalanced by archfan7411 2021-10-05T20:31:43Z

This was a pretty decent game. I love having to get the seesaw to go sideways just enough to dump a bunch of balls off without taking me out with them. However, I got the seesaw to go vertical and my character was still able to stay on it because I still had movement keys down, which ruins some of the tension. The 5 to 10 second music loop also hurts the experience for me since it got really repetitive. Overall, I enjoyed the game, though.

The Show Must Go Down by tykenn 2021-10-06T01:39:19Z

The idea of ruining and destabilizing a play is a very unique to interpret the theme, but it looks wonderfully here. The dialogue and the different branching paths are fun to find, and the characters trying desperately to keep the play on track regardless of whatever you do is hilarious to watch. I also love how non-linear this game is-there are a lot of ways to mess up the play at different points, and certain actions will mess up the play more than others (The piano is the best one to play with). Overall, this is probably the funniest game I've played during this game jam.

The Volunteer by DoctorTurbo 2021-10-05T21:43:51Z

I loved the mood and atmosphere of this game. The sound ambience really helped in selling the world and its story, and the aesthetics, while simple, aided the atmosphere while still making the environment readable for players so they could figure out where to go. I really enjoyed this one. Good job.

Among Monolyths by Dekajoo 2021-10-09T06:09:16Z

This is a really nicely done puzzle game. I can definitely see the influence from *The Witness*, which is definitely not a bad thing. I loved the graphics here-the sprites aren't super impressive, but the effects with environmental objects distorting and suddenly being upside down is really nice looking and helps give a sense of uneasiness to the whole game. The music and sound design are also really well done and feel consistent throughout the game. I love the open-ended design of the game world-an oddity for puzzle games, but was a defining feature for *The Witness*. On top of all that, the story is really nicely told. Overall, congrats on making a really great submission.

Erosion by ChewieCB 2021-10-07T03:53:26Z

I enjoyed this one. I like the gameplay being designed in a way that requires you to get close to the lose state in order to be able to use the mechanics needed to get through some sections. While the art style is very simple, the use of colors is good and lighting is done well enough to where everything a player would need to see is easily visible. I did feel like some of the gameplay mechanics were inconsistent in how they function. There were a few times I had managed to launch myself with the double jump several times higher than I did other times I used it, and the climbing mecahnic didn't always end up functioning when I was below a ledge. Though, this maybe just due to me being unaware of what is considered an acceptable height below a ledge to be able to climb up. Regardless of that, I had a lot of fun with this one. Great job.

Rocky Rhodes and the Cracked Case by Brainloaf Studio 2021-10-09T02:19:01Z

I love the creativity on this one-it basically felt like I was watching a character go through an acid trip, which was only exasperated by the sudden ending. The dialogue is really well done and can be hilarious when it needs to be, and the voice acting is really done for a game jam. The sudden shifts in gameplay never caused any issues due to the controls specifically being done in a simple easy to understand way. This is definitely one of the more memorable games of the game jam.

Everything is Fine by Noire 2021-10-06T06:26:09Z

This is a really nice and lovely experience. The story is told wonderfully through no dialogue, and it hits really well. It is one of the more unique interpretations of the theme. The art and music were lovely, and the gameplay mechanics were designed in a way that helped convey the story. The controls did feel somewhat finicky at times, like they weren't properly responding to what I was clicking on, but that doesn't hurt the overall experience. This is definitely one of the highlights of the jam.

Finding Balance by WooshDUde 2021-10-06T01:55:26Z

I love the depth of the gameplay here, mainly due to the inclusion of having to balance the level so you can continue puzzle-solving. The graphics are simple, but somewhat charming. The combination of simple platforming and graphics almost gives me a "Thomas Was Alone" vibe. The adaptive music based on what buttons are pushed is also an incredibly nice touch.

loop by peterfiftyfour 2021-10-09T05:46:50Z

The dithering art style caught my eye immediately, and I love the overall calm and relaxing vibe with the game. The music is very charming and adds a lot of life to the game that would otherwise not be there. This game is very effective in terms of mood. The gameplay is simple, but it works well and I had very little issue with it. The game does feel like it is a little directionless in terms of objectives, beyond collecting the crystals. Maybe it would be interesting if players in the server gained new abilities or tile types the more crystals they gathered? This would add incentive to finding the crystals and would give players more tools to further explore the little charming world you created, as well as add more incentive for cooperation between players as gathering crystals would benefit them both. Regardless of that, in it's current state, this is a very cute and charming experience that is a lot of fun to run around in for a few minutes. I liked it a lot.

Trenchrunner by curleysam 2021-10-09T04:32:29Z

Really great submission. The graphics are nice and charming and the sound effects are effective are drawing the player in while being distinct enough to let them know about different gameplay events. The gameplay is also really great, since the mechanics are simple enough to understand very easily within a minute, but designed in a way where it forces a balancing act. Players can't always vent the bomb pressure, shoot, and move quickly. They have to make distinct choices between the three, and it results in interesting situations where the player is forced to respond to multiple threats at the same time. The game is challenging, and I failed a few times, but I never felt cheated. It always felt like I had set myself up for that failure. Overall, really great entry. Would love to see this game expanded further.

Topple Tower by Kroporo 2021-10-09T03:02:34Z

I'm surprised that a lot of people didn't think about Jenga as an idea for this game-it seems like most people jumped on a game with roots in Tetris (I'm guilty of this). This is a very well-done recreation of the old table block game. The graphics and music are simple, but sound nice and don't get in the way of the main gameplay. I'm surprised this was done with Unity and PhysX, as from my experience, physics in Unity tend to be a bit wonky. However, the physics work really nicely here. There isn't too much for me to say here, honestly. This is just a really good recreation of Jenga. Nice work.

Milburt by LiquidFunk 2021-10-09T03:38:04Z

I really enjoyed going along with this adventure. The dialogue is very charming and humorous. The game has a very interesting art style, and it is charming, but the font choice to go along with that art style is definitely to read at points. I love the little details such as the way you made it where you can change how violently some text shakes. This really aids in adding character to the(uh) characters. The sound effects match up really well with the art style. The only disapointing thing about the game is how suddenly it ends-I would love to see this turned into a full story. Nice work!

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-09T02:29:41Z

This is a really fun concept-it reminds a lot of *SEUM* in how it plays out, with platforming mechanics in short speedrun-designed levels. The art style with a mix of 2D and 3D is a unique one that stands out in the game jam, and while the soundscape is simplistic, it is effective. I could see this working as a full title (especially due to the experience and success of *SEUM*). Great work!

UNTetris by JaviCoder 2021-10-06T00:31:46Z

I love the idea behind this one, and the graphics and sound are really well-done. However, I do feel like it is a bit too easy to win. The marble feels like it grips onto things too much. As a result unless you send a piece flying, it tends to be able to fall around the edges of the playspace. This game was still a lot of fun and very beautiful-it just wasn't super difficult.

Kevin Is Unstable by Uraffululz 2021-10-06T03:40:12Z

This was a lot of fun, and honestly left me kinda panicked as I thought this game would be the kind to have a horrifying out-of-nowhere jumpscare with Kevin once all the lamps broke. Luckily, that didn't happen. The playspace is pretty limited, and there are only two types of items in terms of gameplay (raise blood sugar and pause lowering of blood sugar) so the game fills a little limited, but it still worked well. I also really wish there was some kind of ambience as the game feels really lifeless right now. Overall, 10/10 would get $10 again.

Atomic Rock Paper Scissors by lucasvb 2021-10-09T05:33:43Z

I have to be honest-I played this game longer than I intended to. This is a really satisfying, polished experience. The sprite work is appealing and the objects are very distinct. The camera shake and sound effects make explosions *very* satisfying. The gameplay itself is similar to games like Bejeweled, but manages to have it's very own, unique flair to the genre via a game that literally everyone knows how to play. As a result, this game is really beginner-friendly, as well. I could see this expanding into a full game at one point or another, but even in it's current form it is a very addicting and enjoyable experience. Really nice work!

Citride by Asemic 2021-10-06T02:14:23Z

The concept is a fun twist on unstable, and the overall gameplay is enjoyable. The three different forms are simple to understand and fun to experiment with, and the level design allows for advantages and disadvantages to each one. However, the controls are a lit strange. It felt like the game sometimes just didn't acknowledge what I pressed, or took a long time to respond to it. Beside that, the art style choice is an interesting and well-executed one, and the music matches with it well.

AFTER SUN by rufson 2021-10-09T08:26:20Z

I love the presentation in this game-this is some high-quality pixel art and well-designed audio. The idea for it is also one I haven't seen yet for this jam, and the same goes for the gameplay. Taking people to the moon while desperately trying NOT to get them killed is very fun (I'm sorry to the 74 I killed because I slam head first into the moon accidently on my first try). It does feel like satellites appear a little too quickly? I don't feel like I'm able to respond to them as much as just let them happen. In a way, it does work with the chaotic nature of the game, so it doesn't bother me too much. Overall, this was a really cool and fun experience to mess with. I hope to continue to not kill people with my 'Kerbal Space Program'-level rocket ship piloting skill.

No hands Dorifto by Gorypixels 2021-10-05T22:18:47Z

This is the kind of game where my fingers are in agony but I must keep playing. It is a bit difficult to get into, as it is kind of hard to figure out how things work at first due to just how quickly it'll give the game over menu, but once I figured it out, it was really addictive. Barely managed to get 72. Shoutout to my lowest score of -9.

Unsteinable by shakastrai 2021-10-09T06:12:27Z

This is a pretty unique concept within the game jam, and it was executed pretty well. I love the cartoonish style of the game, and the audio is pretty well done. Gameplay is well-done and I didn't run into any bugs in my own playthrough. I feel like the levels themselves contain a good difficulty curve and slowly introduces new obstacles to the player at a decent pace. The game itself feels nicely polished, actually, considering it's a game jam. Nice work, overall.

Unstable Mind by PashaLoban 2021-10-05T21:34:24Z

It's an interesting game, but I feel like the lack of contrast and lack of time to find the object you need really hurts the gameplay and atmosphere. I'd often find myself stuck in a room and unable to find the doorway to exit and check another one before the time ran out. Also, when I first played, I ran into the bug where I was able to just go to the lamp and press 'E' and basically skipped all the gameplay, like many others did sadly. I love the monster hands, though-they are really creepy.

BALANCING ACT by anchorlight 2021-10-07T04:01:15Z

I really like the art and audio on this one. It has a pretty unique Hotline Miami-esque style, which has not been that common in this game jam from what I noticed. I love the little details such as the 3D elevator transition between levels and the way the game seems to freeze up when you get a game over, as if the game itself has lost all stability. I really love how the bullet particles look, but I feel like they are almost a little too big. Unless I got the center of the bullets to hit the person, the sprite would often times cross over them and not do anything. Beside that, this was a really solid game.

Boat History by etrealjunior 2021-10-19T07:14:24Z

I really liked the inclusion of the theme here, and the gameplay within this one is very unique for the jam. It almost feels like a mobile game in how it was designed to have very simple and easy to understand mechanics. I enjoyed the music and cute art here. The water physics made the game challenging, but they worked well. Whenever I lost it was due to my own faults rather than the water physics not working how I expected them to. Nice entry, overall.

Cairn by Chrispy977 2021-10-09T03:58:45Z

I really love the overall vibe of this game. The environment and graphics are some of the most detailed in this jam. The music tracks are *really* nice and relaxing-probably some of my favorite from the game jam. The gameplay is a simple stacking game, but having players do it with rocks is a refreshing take on the mechanic, requiring them to do it with more natural and organic shapes. More interesting is how well the physics engine behaves with these more natural and weird shapes-the reason why a lot of games with physics focus on simple shapes for the physic objects is to prevent issues and ensure stability, but you managed it with more complicated shapes. I also love the inclusion of a high score system-that is a really nice touch. Nice work-this was a really peaceful, zen-like game.

Solar Escape by Pryankster 2021-10-05T20:18:56Z

The graphics, character design, and animations are really cute, and I love the overall aesthetic of the game. It is pretty clear things are broken and missing here, and it's tragic as there is potential. I do love the effort, though, and the acknowledgement that things went wrong (I'm sorry your dog ate your video card. Have fun trying to get one in this new economy.). Every game is a learning experience, and it'll be fun to see your team's work in future game jams, if you decide to participate.

Contrary by Nekopi 2021-10-05T20:08:18Z

The graphics in this game are absolutely gorgeous. I wasn't able to attack any of the monsters, though, or at least there was no indication that they were being attacked. My health also stayed the same near them, so I think they can't attack either. As a result, it doesn't feel like there's a lot of "game" here, sadly. Hopefully, it's just a weird bug or glitch on my end.

Un-Stabled by Denhette 2021-10-06T00:42:03Z

This game is great and is such an interesting take on the theme. The voxel graphics look great, and the music speeding up with each new level is a nice touch. Also, the ragdoll physics with the horse are amusing. The main strategy for beating the game became just spamming the explosions, though, with the second to last level being the main exception.

Laura Magan by TheBlindEye 2021-10-09T01:36:01Z

The atmosphere and mood in this one is really well done, with the use of simple ambience and some reversed noises making it very eerie. The forest assets were also really nicely done. I did notice that in some of your screenshots the fog goes in the distance and into a grey skybox. On my computer, the background and sky was completely black. I also did see that the GIF you have on itch.io does the same thing, so I was curious if this was a asethetic choice where it got missed in the screenshots. Interesting game, overall.

Psycho-unstable Journey by KenForest 2021-10-06T04:08:05Z

This is a very and unique game for this jam. I love the PS1-era graphics, and the ambience and sound effects worth with the graphics to give the game a very creepy vibe. While the gameplay is simplistic, it is definitely made up for by everything else. For some reason, though, the controls for the car stopped working for me three different times, requiring me to restart. This really hurt the overall experience and atmosphere for me. Other than that, amazing job.

Space Alconaut by Bassilij 2021-10-09T04:06:14Z

This is an interesting take on the theme for the game, but I'm all for it. I love the voxels, but I'm kind of sad that it only looks like about half of the game assets dedicated themselves to that style. I would of loved to see the whole game like it. The astronaut being drunk is funny, but the slow movement speed does slowly become frustrating when trying to solve puzzles. Also, for some reason, the text-to-speech was just really funny to me. I really enjoyed what was on display here. Nice submission.

Unstable Genius by Doc Kaos 2021-10-09T02:48:03Z

Well, this game gets 5 stars in humor purely based off the opening video sequence with Simlish dialogue. I love the tounge-in-cheek feeling of this whole game, and the idea for the gameplay here is really creative while still fitting the theme well. This game is especially impressive, considering it was made for the compo. Nice work, overall.

Handle With Care by Liss1024 2021-10-19T08:13:18Z

This is a very novel concept for a game in this jam, and the control scheme is very unique. I actually found it really challenging to control the ship, but I slowly managed over time. The graphics and audio are both very well done, and the game feels pretty cohesive in theme. I did note that there didn't seem to be any end condition when the player fell off the playable area into the void-or none appeared in my experience. It was a little awkward when I sat there for 30 seconds or so, waiting for the level to reload when it never would. Other than that, I enjoyed my time with this entry. Good submission, overall.

Cloudy Adventure by Paprikcho 2021-10-06T01:16:22Z

The game looks really nice, and the gameplay is simple to use but hard to master due to the physics. It is a little frustrating when I land on a block since that basically means game over, but it is fun, regardless.

Going Home by lb01 2021-10-06T03:00:41Z

This is such a charming game. I love the idea of using just footsteps for the main character and the enemies, and the low poly art style and adaptive piano music work together harmoniously. I also love the detail that the character specifically starts close to death and has to walk to water, cleverly and subtly introducing two mechanics to the player. I also love how the camera proceeds to orient upwards and show the player on the cliff, with the playarea being shown in the distance. It feels a lot like BotW with the plateau view. The only issue I had was the lack of control over the camera, as it made it hard to view my surroundings, and that could easily get changed. Overall, beautiful work on the game jam.

Tetrilibrium by Melancholia 2021-10-06T06:11:19Z

The pixel art here is very nicely done, and the music is very cute and charming. The gameplay is a nice mix of a platforming and tetrimino-block stacking, forcing players to use a limited amount of blocks to make a structure that allows them to get to the next exit. I appreciate the open-endedness of the puzzles, as many puzzles don't have just one right answer. As a result, this allows players to experiment. The game is pretty easy due to the character's jump height, often letting me finish puzzles with one or two blocks still available for usage. However, a game being easy doesn't make it bad. I enjoyed myself with this submission-it was very peaceful, cohesive, and polished.

Wobbly Penguins by bqq 2021-10-06T04:55:29Z

Wow. That was NOT what I was expecting. This game is really ambitious, and it absolutely nails it. The gameplay is simple and charming, the music is catchy and the graphics are really well done, and I had already considered it one of the better games I had played on here. And that was before IT happened. I did not expect the twist to happen, but when it did it made me wonder why very few other games on the jam had decided to interpret the theme that way, as it was a very obvious idea in hindsight. Overall, this is a absolutely wonderful game. Amazing job on it.

(You guys made the black penguins eyes red so it looked like it was on [*redacted*] on purpose, didn't you.)

rUnstable by g5-leonardo 2021-10-09T05:12:56Z

Nice game. Despite some of the graphics not being yours, the animation system put in place here seems to work really well, as the character is able to move from different animations real smoothly. The rock music wasn't expected, but I definitely won't complain about it-it adds a lot of energy to the game.

The inputs changing feature *really* caught me off guard and had me panicking-that was hilarious and a lot of fun. The only issue I can think of with this game is that the climbing animation feels like it should be sped up a little, as it far too easily results in the player getting hit by the train when a lot of obstacles requiring that animation come one after another.

Overall, this is a really nice submission. Hats off to the dev team.

Wobble by BGDC 2021-10-06T04:30:32Z

This is a really good submission. The main thing that stands out to me really is the polish here, as it is VERY rare to see a game from a jam being this cohesive and finished. This genuinely feels like a complete package. The gameplay is simple but well done, and the art style is very pleasing to the eye. The music also aids in tying together the mood of the game. I also love the main menu being an playable level that you can make fall over. It's little touches like that that help elevate this game above most in the jam/

BLOP by ooyjian 2021-10-06T02:08:01Z

This is a fun remix of Tetris, and it feels well within the theme. I feel like the pieces move back and forth a bit too slowly considering how short the time limit is-if you end up messing up your timing on a placement you have to wait a long time for it to be position over where you want it again, and sometimes that means that the game is over by then. Besides that, the difficulty is reasonable and the physics are consistent enough to where I was able to get to level 3 before my tower fell apart (by my own accidental doing). Overall, it was a fun game.

RoughTrain by Dogez 2021-10-06T05:53:22Z

The thing that easily stands out here most are the graphics. They are incredibly detailed and well done for a 3 day game, and the idea of keeping the machine fueled so it doesn't explode is different from other ideas on the jam. The particle effects are nicely-done, and the character movement and animations are pretty slick. Again, the visual aspects of this game are AMAZING for a game jam.

I did have issues with the radio consistently overlapped with itself when I tried to interact with it multiple times, and the overlapping text for the objective makes it difficult to read what I'm meant to do next. As a result, it was hard for me to understand what to do next in the game, and I can imagine it might frustrate some players. Despite that, I had a lot of fun. Great work, guys.

Hardwork Simulator by cabjhegas 2021-10-09T03:09:37Z

This is a very unique interpretation of the theme executed very well. I love the casual narration via the button-mashing, and speaking of which, this is probably one of the few games I played where button-mashing feels relevant and not a method to add artificial challenge. The physics for the letters and the stickfigures were really nice, and I was impressed with how the WebGL ran well on my integrated GPU up until near the end of my run when I had about four layers of letter on the bottom of the screen. I really enjoyed this one-great job.

Unstabrick Maze by Moonblast 2021-10-06T05:08:40Z

This is a really nice game. The voxel graphics are nicely done and the music is catchy. The gameplay is pretty simple to understand, but the game itself is actually pretty difficult due to it's unforgiving nature. Despite that, it never really feels like the game stole anything from you when you die, which is pretty impressive. I did notice that I could start moving in a new level before I had fallen to the ground, I can get on top of nearby wall blocks. While this isn't gamebreaking, it does let me get ahead in levels with little difficulty and in some situations allowed me to skip levels entirely by going to straight to the end. Ignoring that one problematic bug, this is a simple, but well made game. Great job.

Turrim by Proxy-Games 2021-10-07T08:32:38Z

Hello! I saw many people take note of the physics working incorrectly and decided to check it for myself, and I can definitely see the issue. Since Ludum Dare does allow patches for features not working right, I was able to create a version 1.0.1 with more consistent physics. The original version is still available on the itch.io page if anyone still wants to see how the game came out initially.

@Saidrog You wanted me to let you know if the physics ever get corrected, and while I can't promise 100% consistency due to the unpredictable nature of physics, it should behave a *lot* better in this new version.

Turrim by Proxy-Games 2021-10-09T03:50:00Z

@anchorlight I know-how cruel of me to leave you to a physics engine, but it was something I must do. It's great to hear that you had a much better experience than most did in terms of the physics of the blocks. No rotation button was both something that didn't happen due to a lack of time on my end, and from deciding it would be more interesting if players were forced to make some weird choices and encourage a bit of chaos. A postjam release is planned at some point, and more sound effects are definitely something I want to add. Thank you for playing the game!

@pd-dev Sounds like there's still issues with the physics in this game-shoot. It's really weird because I've set the bounciness in the physics material to 0, so they really *shouldn't* be doing that. I think I know what's causing it, but the problem is that changing it would also make it much more difficult for blocks to fix properly in together, as the game has a sort of leniency in the blocks collision to allow blocks to fix together more easily. However, this can result in a tall tower having an uneven top due to the different collision shapes, even if it looks flat. Sorry you had issues with that. As for my high score, I've managed to get to around 2900. Thank you for playing the game!

Woops I Forgot My Ladder by Giulychu 2021-10-05T21:20:03Z

This game is a lot of fun to run around in. The amount of times I got to just two floors under a person before I ended up screwing up was uncountable, and the amount of rage and anger I felt was a lot. However, it never felt like it was the game's fault. In a way, this gives me almost a "Getting Over It" vibe. I also just find Kevin MacLeod's bubbly royalty-free music playing over scenes of people standing at their window ledge because their apartment's on fire hilarious for some reason.

--- by Dent 2021-10-09T05:24:01Z

The graphics and audio are really impressive, *especially* for a compo game. The game gave me very similar feelings to Playdead's games, which is not a game thing at all. The puzzles don't work super well, though. Two pyramids got stuck in the pipe in the very first puzzle, for example. It's overall still a very impressive entry, though, and I would like to see this game and the strange world it contains expanded into a fun game. Overall, very nice work.

Critical Night by Underdog 2021-10-05T22:38:21Z

I love the chaotic energy this game has. The extreme weapon and camera sway while running around, the zombies just ragdolling and throwing themselves at you, and the explosions resulting in the bodies flying several feet in the air makes this game hilarious and very enjoyable to me.

Can you help me ? by Pythorogus 2021-10-06T00:21:21Z

I enjoyed the game, despite how depressingly realistic of a portrayal of real life it is. I love the overall mood of the game, with the simple cutouts for people and the simple but pleasing music.

Lovecrafting by Concker_88 2021-10-09T02:37:26Z

This is a very simple concept, but very well executed and a lot of fun to play. The art style is simple but gets the point across effectively, and the animations on the abominations are very impressive. The music and sound effects are really nice. The gameplay is simple to understand, but quickly becomes intense and enjoyable as more and more things to manage get dumped upon the player. This game gets brutal in how quickly it forces you to make a decision by the end, but anything I lost, it never felt like I was cheated out of anything, which is a really impressive feat. Great job by the team.

Lumen Sphera by BrandonDev 2021-10-06T02:32:27Z

It doesn't fit the theme very well, but it was still fun regardless. The game has clear Portal-vibes going for it. The puzzles have some issues in terms of their design, though. In the last level, I was able to just jump to the different platforms until I got close to the end, and then just use the last two orb activators to boost me up to the door and open it. Overall, I still had a good time with this.

Cytoplasm Madness by dagon 2021-10-06T00:51:27Z

This game is really well done. The graphics match the PICO-8 style really well, and the music is really catchy. The gameplay is simple, but well done, and I didn't run into any bugs with it. This game is REALLY well polished for a game jam, and it honestly impresses me. Great job.

Temple Sprint by chrishg12 2021-10-09T08:16:20Z

I also struggled with the bridge part as well-the farthest I could get was about halfway through before I'd end up falling. Up to that point, the game is a lot of fun to run through. I wasn't expecting the environments to be so dynamic-having crumbling floors, rocks rolling down declines, and bridges collasping onto one another. It makes the world feel so alive to have so much movement in it. Overall, fun game could be a lot better with some polish and fine turning. Nice work!

Where's My Tripod? by Pixelydian 2021-10-09T04:14:24Z

This is such a great interpretation of the theme. I love the relaxing gameplay loop and lovely piano music, but the main standout thing here is the high-quality pixel art. This is just a really cute, peaceful game. Great work.

Tetromino Stack by Myles Doupe 2021-10-09T05:58:20Z

I really enjoyed this game. It very much feels like it knows what it wants to do, and sets out to do just that. It is Tetris with physics and it works well. The weight of the piece pivoting around where you grabbed it is a very interesting touch that makes the game a bit more difficult. The graphics are simplistic, but it's Tetris so it's not like too much can be changed there. I do wish that there was more in terms of sound, though. Other than the block placing sound, there isn't much of anything here, and it makes the game feel a little less lively. Other than that, it's a well-executed idea. Great job.

Also, @lawrence I have to say you are an absolute madman for getting that score. Could barely even manage 12.1 myself.

Equilibrium by zSharpFire 2021-10-05T22:31:11Z

The concept of this game is simple, but it is executed decently. The physics work well, and it is always satisfying watching all the physics object roll and fly off the balance board even though that means I'm about to inevitably lose.

I did find I could just spam blocks from the center of the board and they would distribute out pretty evenly in terms of weight (I was able to get a score of 109 this way). The block placing system always isn't working correctly, I think? It displays a silhouette for the next block to be placed, but it often seems to decide to place something else entirely (I was going to place a tiny triangle somewhere, but then the game spawned a big box, and it shifted the weight of the seesaw entirely). Other than that, I had a lot of fun with this.

Roscharch by Casa Ocho 2021-10-06T02:19:44Z

This is a really interesting concept for a game. Props to using the visual novel format-it's the first one I've seen in this jam using it, and the music and artwork succeeds in giving the game a very surreal feeling, aiding more by how ambiguous it is and how quickly it ends. Part of me kinda wishes there was more to this, if only to see where a fully realized version of it would go.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Oops, I'm Sinking! by Criobite 2022-04-21T05:26:48Z

This is a good base for what could be a really fun game. It does suffer from being too easy, as the fun with games like these typically come in the moment of panic of having to deal with multiple things at once. I very much agree with the comment above this one-I think more tasks would make this game more enjoyable, and adding local multiplayer into the mix would make this a really fun and chaotic game to play. Beyond that, the camera angle when steering ship did confuse me a little-it kind of made it feel like the ship was always veering a little off to the right?

The graphics and audio aren't anything standout, but they work well for what the game is, and they make the experience any harder to play. Overall, this a nice entry.

Shoal by Kerdelos 2022-04-09T08:28:28Z

I enjoyed my time with this one-the simple, but colorful pixel art combined with the banjo strumming in the background give the game a very peaceful and relaxing mood. The sound design in general was very nice, aside from the noise for collecting more fish, which I felt got a little grating after a while (though this is a minor complaint). The gameplay is simple and not anything groundbreaking, but it works very well and is very polished.

The only real complaint is that I wish there was more variety in the procedural generation of the river paths. From what I could tell, there was about 10 different environment chunks that would get selected at random for this game, and with the fast screen pan speed, it resulted in a game that the feeling of going into unknown environments quickly.

Regardless, what is here is really solid. Nice work, guys! I managed to get a max of 34 fish.

Time, Commander? by Jesús González 2022-04-05T07:42:37Z

I like the interesting control scheme forcing the player to think and plan ahead of every confrontation, and the inclusion of the rewind mechanic allows for experimentation, as well as fitting the theme pretty well. Overall, the gameplay has a surprising amount of depth to it, and I enjoyed it a lot. Graphics and audio aren't anything special, but they are functional and help serve the gameplay.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with it. Nice job!

Riposte by pickens-inc 2022-04-13T04:31:17Z

This is really fun! I have always been a fan of the vaporwave aesthetic, so seeing an entry like this is really nice. The only thing I could've wished for was a mask around the edges making it looked like one of the tube TV screens, and a few subtly used post processing effects such as chromatic abberation, fish lens, and static in order to fully complete the aesthetic. But those are more finer details-you nailed the important aspects! The audio also fits in really well, creating a strong mood for this piece. The gameplay is simple but well executed-I had no problem understanding it, but the gameplay quickly grew in difficulty as the back and forth between me and the opponent sped up. Overall, there's not too much here, but what *is* here is very solid and polished. Excellent work!

Baking Simulator 2022 by Sarah 2022-04-05T05:24:18Z

This is a interesting game. The graphics are simple, but effective. I love the use of the zoom function, which makes me feel like I'm playing the game through a little magnifying glass somewhat. The poster telling me I was slacking was *extra* motivational.

I agree with the above comment. This very much feels like old games I played when I was a kid, and it's very nostalgic. I enjoyed my time with this.

Drawn Out by mechanicallife 2022-04-20T19:11:22Z

This is a very nicely polished game, overall. The graphics and audio are top-notch and some of the best for this game jam. The gameplay is a little lackluster, due to the way the card game sort of plays itself-though it is fun to make the deck, and it is initially entertaining to see how the rounds play out. I do also feel like this game needs some sort of balancing, as once one side has two more cards on the board than the other, it is basically 'round over' at that point. At best, its fun to watch my deck play out well, but at worst, its frustrating to watch my deck fall out in front of me without being able to do anything at all. It really becomes a game of luck, which is likely intentional, but doesn't make it any the less annoying.

Despite that, the game was a lot of fun, and is impressive in its presentation. Great job!

The Sea Won't Stop by m11 2022-04-05T04:27:02Z

Capture.PNG The first mate is a hater.

In all seriousness, this is a short, but fun experience. The dialogue options are all charming and tend to have something funny in them. Above all, it leaves before it starts to get grating or monotonous.

Nice job.

Earworm Jam by ursagames 2022-04-06T03:41:20Z

Wow, what a bizzare experience. *I love it.*

The graphics and audio are well-produced, and both fit together well in how absurd they are. The gameplay is fun in terms of seeing just how far I could get (the answer is not very-about 600 points was my highest). I did notice what you spoke about in your 'making mechanics obvious' with perfects causing more harm than good (so much so that the previously mentioned high score came from purposefully button-mashing and getting a ton of offbeats). Other than that quirk in the game design, I had a lot of fun being confused at the absurdity of this one. Good entry!

Block or Bust by 100th_Coin 2022-04-07T05:08:12Z

Wow. Well, this game includes my favorite music track from the game jam so far. I really like this one! The concept is unique and creative, and was very humorous on top of that (Whatever this lady is getting paid is *not enough*). The gameplay is well done and the difficulty curve is well-balanced. The artstyle is also well-done, with good animations and effects on the main character. The only thing that I had issue with was the lack of a way to actually quit the game once playing with ctrl+alt+tabbing (unless I missed something), and I also wished there was some sort of controls screen within the game so I could double check them. These are minor gripes, though, and I enjoyed my time with this done. Good job!

The Beast Within by cad 2022-04-07T06:29:39Z

I enjoyed my time with this one! The concept fits the mood very nicely, and is a unique take on it that I haven't seen yet. The gameplay works well and contains a good amount of depth from having to place objects smartly in order to make them last. I did get confused and wasted time initially because I didn't know you could switch items via the number keys, but once I understood that it was smooth sailing. The artstyle is unique and well executed, and the audio fits together with the art to produce a strong mood. I also did find it quite funny when the LEGOs were the most effective object in the entire game. Overall, I managed to last a week (though I got *really* close to making it to Day 8).

Great entry!

Too Close by Webox 2022-04-06T02:49:26Z

This is an interesting concept! The gameplay was a little hard to get used to at first, but once it clicked it was a fun game to think through. The graphics and audio are very nice and fit together well. The controls were sometimes a little weird for me, though how much of that was due to me not understanding the rules of the game is questionable (The first time I tried to use the lightning, I didn't expect to have to place it down like a tile. I ended up having to wait for the blind lady to come back.). The use of randomization in terms of the puzzles is a neat concept, and it is executed well here. Overall, I enjoyed this one. Nice work!

Pass The Torch by Dan Smith 2022-04-06T02:29:32Z

Wow. I love the mood on this one-the graphics and audio come together to give a very tense atmosphere that grips onto players. The concept of the game itself is simple, but the presentation of the game help gives it life. However, the game *does* suffer on the gameplay side slightly. While the idea of having to choose who to leave behind and who to keep around works well with this concept and story, and the slow pace (literally) of the gameplay forces you to have to maintain your difficult choices for a period of time before they actually happen (such as gradually moving away from an elderly man who's moving too slow for the crowd, until he gets far enough away from the light and will die)) makes the game very downcast mood wise. On another note, I found it slightly funny when there was only one child in the group and absolutely no one was grabbing his hand or anything to make him fend for himself. Something about that was kind of just amusing, and admittedly offputting considering the tone of the game. Overall, though, exceptional work!

well by Turncoda 2022-04-05T02:27:11Z

This is interesting, and while I didn't get far (The most I could manage was sitting up), I enjoyed it.

I love seeing more experimental stuff like this in game jams-it's what they're all about, right? The only thing I could think of to improve this game is more direct hints towards what one should be doing (though by your description, it suggest that there might not be an ending to this game), or what one could do. I feel like there's a lot more here than I was able to find.

Nice game, overall.

Monster Dungeon Defenders by TheCrittersCove 2022-04-21T05:09:31Z

This is a very simple but well executed game. The idea of going through the same gameplay loop, not with the objective of winning, but of gaining as much currency in order to buy stuff to help you through the gameplay loop is a good idea. The graphics are cute, and the audio serves its purpose. I do feel like the gameplay could benefit from some depth, as currently their isn't much to do beyond buying and placing cards. The lack of a lose condition doesn't help much, either, as it causes a lack of urgency in the gameplay. However, it takes a good amount of time to implement and balance a game with mechanics such as this, and as this, this is a well-balanced and fun game. Nice work.

Dancing With Death by Enver Arco 2022-04-14T03:35:53Z

Nice work. The gameplay is simple, but the graphics and music work in tandem with it to create a tense mood. I did notice that once I was caught that there was no way to retry or exit the game, forcing me to ctrl+alt+del my way out. While the graphics are nice, I was also having really bad performance issues for some reason. I was able to check my profiler and see it was running off my rather high-end dedicated GPU, yet for some reason I could only manage to get 15 fps. Luckily, the gameplay wasn't anything that required high reaction so the performance didn't effect my time with the game. Overall, good entry.

LifeWasterâ„¢ by sirJupitron 2022-04-05T03:46:32Z

This is a nice cookie clicker-like game about the inevitability of death, no matter how pretty who try to match yourself look. The gameplay here works really nicely with the tounge-in-cheek humor style you're going for. The graphics and audio are simple, but effective. I especially like how the music changes based on what particular thing you're looking at. Not sure of what else I could say about it-it's just a fun, little game.

Nice work.

How it Ended by dxk2294 2022-04-10T04:13:34Z

I really enjoyed my time with this one! The first thing that stood out to me was the polish on it-the main menu, the smooth animations within the UI-it was clear attention to detail was given here. The graphics are very nicely done, and the audio fits the mood of the concept very well. The gameplay is generally enjoyable, though highly confusing. I see that above you mentioned paying for a project unlocks it rather than constructs it since another person had issues with it. I ran into that problem as well. Other than that, this was fun in terms of putting together plans to try to beat the clock. Great work!

First Contact by Tudvari 2022-04-20T18:52:33Z

This is an interesting game-the game looping through the same time frame again and again is an interesting idea, and I can see the *Outer Wilds* inspiration from that. The graphics aren't anything impressive, but the music is very nice and serene. In terms of the gameplay, I did struggle with figuring out that there was a lever on the boathouse initially, especially when it is up and above where the player normally looks. Beyond that, I enjoyed the explorative gameplay. Nice entry.

Pachinko is Life by Don Fouts 2022-04-10T05:55:49Z

Well, that certainly wasn't a game concept I thought I'd ever play-however, I'm currently glad I did. The game initially had me not that much on board, as it felt like the humor elements were trying too hard, at least for me. However, once things got serious, and the tone shifted, my attention was completely drawn in. The graphics on the pachinko machine were very nicely done, as well as the UI work. I especially loved how the pachinko changed depending on story elements. It does feel like the backgrounds could've used a little bit more love, however. The audio works well enough for the mood, but doesn't stand out as anything extremely strong. The gameplay loop was pretty good, overall, with the narrative decisions causing the stakes in the pachinko part of the game. Overall, nice work on a very unique entry!

Kalopsia by tailow 2022-04-10T04:22:32Z

Very nice work, overall! The general aesthetic of the graphics and the music choice works wonderfully at setting a tense mood. The gameplay is interesting due to the unique weapon, which comically turns any gameplay footage into absolute chaos due to all the mouse movement. The game does need some more polish, though, as some enemies would float horizontally for some reason? Regardless, great job!

Defence Under Construction by RAFFE 2022-04-07T17:42:17Z

Nice game! The gameplay is not anything super innovative, but it's polished and well-executed. The pixel art is very nicely done, and I'm impressed with the flag animations. The music works well for the general aesthetic of the game. I do wish that there were more enemies spawned per wave, or that their spawn points were moved in closer, but it does feel like I'm either waiting for them to arrive in a minute at the start of a new wave, or running far into the caves to hunt them down. Despite that minor gripe, this was good.

Good entry!

Later... by Kizu 2022-04-06T03:10:14Z

Such a cute little game. The graphics and audio are very pleasing and relaxing, and create such a nice mood for it. There isn't much gameplay here beyond time management, but I'd say this game is a lot more about the vibes.

Had a lot of fun it. Nice job.

Procrabstination by sebastianscaini 2022-04-05T04:55:48Z

I...I really, *really*, want to just post a comment saying "crab" and nothing else.

This game is very cute and humorous. It does really more on random humor through the absurdity of crabs for it, which is not everyone's cup of tea. Luckily, it is *mine.*

The amount of depth here is also hilarious, with the Star Wars and Final Fantasy parodies. The graphics are music are also just an aesthetic.

Just a really nice chill game. Nice job.

Turbo Toilet Tomfoolery! by RonanRory 2022-04-14T08:48:18Z

I had a lot more fun playing this than I was expecting. I have to be honest-the sound effect for the guy running into stuff basically made the game for me. That one sound effect is absolutely perfect. The concept is unique for this jam, and it connects to the theme well. The graphics aren't anything special, but they are clear and concise-it's easy to see the gameplay. It's sad that you didn't have fun making this, and are considering quitting Ludum Dare, but it's understandable. Ludum Dare is meant to be fun, and it isn't fair for you to force yourself to do this out of some sort of obligation.

Whatever choice you make in terms of continuing Ludum Dare will be the right one. For what it's worth, you've ended with a pretty fun game.

mote by KianaMosser 2022-04-05T02:54:56Z

This game is simple, but I think that's what I like about it. It gives time for the art and audio-the most impressive aspects of this piece-to really shine. I especially love the abstract and atmospheric soundtrack in the background. Overall, this game is really effective at what it aimed to do.

Really beautiful work.

The Last Stand by MaxKyckling 2022-04-07T08:58:56Z

Had fun with it. It was initially a lot easier than I expected, and was feeling unimpressed, and then *the swarm* came in. The graphics and audio are generally pleasing while not drawing too much attention away from the gameplay itself. The gameplay mechanics work well and were generally easy to understand when I looked over the initial tutorial and went through a first run that went horribly, horribly wrong (I failed to the second enemy). I did struggle to tell if power was properly going through my lines or not due to the text overlapping the power lines and generally being the same color, and when it wasn't, it was sometimes difficult to figure out what exactly was the problem. My second playthrough ended when I had a mine and power plant right next to each and powerlines and about 3 turrets connected to it (and these were part of their separate branch so power wasn't getting diverted anywhere else, unless power acts more as a universal resource in the game?), and none of the powerlines were sending power, resulting in that stuff getting destroyed by enemies that proceeded to invade my base.

Despite the confusion, I had a lot of fun with this game. Nice job, overall.

Eggspiration Date by Nash 2022-04-10T06:38:47Z

Nice game. The rigging and animation on the bird were very nicely one, and I couldn't see any stretching from it or anything like that. The character slipped around a bit too much for my taste, as it got very troublesome attempting to control the bird's glide. The thiefs were a nice little gameplay touch, and the general soundscape is nice and fitting. I do wish there was music though. I did manage to collect all the eggs-even the one on the tall stony tower. I did feel like the game didn't match the theme well, overall. Despite that, I enjoyed my time walking and flying around the little island. Good job.

Hypercube Warrior by DPS2004 2022-04-10T05:14:35Z

Very nicely done! The main menu reminds me a whole lot of the GameCube menu in add the best ways (with rotating to different sides of the cube for different menus). The graphics are very elegant and polished, with the camera tilting based on player position being a very nice touch. The audio while not being as refined and strong, is still good and aids in setting up the mood the game is going for. The gameplay is a typical top-down shooter, with one little "twist"-whenever the player reaches the edge of a cube side, the cube twists to show the next area. While this was neat originally, the first time the concept showed true potential to me was during the first boss fight where I could use the sides of the cube to teleport to different edges of the boss screen.

The gameplay was very polished, overall! I was very impressed with this game. I could see a more refined and extended version coming out as a full game. Congrats!

Stop the clock by Shampop 2022-04-10T06:00:35Z

Fits the theme well, overall. The graphics aren't anything simple, but they serve the gameplay good enough. The music is what makes this entry due to the way it builds the tension for the gameplay. The gameplay itself is very simple, but the entry manages to make the most out of a one-button game. Nice work, overall.

Ludum Dare 50 - Don't Give Up by Furtive Pygmy 2022-04-14T06:04:39Z

Simple, short and cute. For a compo game, with this well done. The graphics aren't anything standout, but they do a good job matching the theme and tone of the entry, and the audio does helps enhance it as well. The gameplay is very simple platforming, but it is well executed. I enjoyed the changes in gameplay and how they matched the theme of each level. The only thing I wish for was that the final level had the obstacles match the beat of the music, if only because my brain thought of *Geometry Dash* while playing it, though that's quite unreasonable for a compo game.

Well done!

Necro-king by filgreen3 2022-04-10T04:28:08Z

Nice entry. The gameplay is simple. but effective and easy to understand. The variety in different units available for spawning gives the game some flavor and encouraged me to keep playing to see just what the others could do. The graphics are simple, but well done-I especially love the little waddle walk animations on the characters. The lack of audio really is the only thing that this entry suffers from, as it would help make the game feel *sooooo* much more lively. Overall, nice work!

The Snooze by krystofjo 2022-04-13T03:20:36Z

Nice game, overall. It was surprisingly challenging all things considered, though I feel like part of that was simply because I was struggling with the controls. I feel like this game with the hand attached to the mouse cursor and with left click to smash instead of the arrow keys and space would've been a lot easier to handle. I feel like part of the point is the difficulty of the controls, though. The graphics are nicely done, and the audio is all good-the music especially is well done. This was a very nice, quick to pick up and play entry. Good job!

Cut for Power by hexkritor 2022-04-12T06:23:55Z

This game is interesting conceptually, though it does feel a little incomplete. The graphics and UI work are very nicely done, and the audio works in setting a mood for the entry. The gameplay loop is quite satisfying, as the use of mana cards allow for players to smartly stack up effects as long as they add the right card at the right time. The difficulty is a little easy at the moment-I had no issue defeating line after line of enemies, so that could use some balancing. I also feel like there should be more variety in the enemy types, as having the same enemy sprite with the same general stats makes the game feel really repetitive. Overall, there is a good foundation for a game, and I'd like to see more add on top of it in terms of enemy types and card types.

Life On Mars by anstabo 2022-04-06T04:01:49Z

I loving this game. It has such a strong and charming atmosphere to it due to the graphical style and the use of older songs. The gameplay is simple, with just having to control the vehicle to collect upgrades, but it is so much fun, and the battery power management adds a layer of depth to it. The graphical effect when in shade does a great job at properly illustrating just how bad that is for the battery power and helps the player remember to avoid shade after the first interaction. I did sometimes have issues with almost getting stuck due to getting caught on a corner while the rover is facing it, which caused frustration, but that's the only thing I could hold against.

You guys did a great job. Congrats!

Holding On by Trebby 2022-04-05T02:40:55Z

This is a simple game, but it's very effective. The monotony of the gameplay serves to further enforce the message of the piece, and the pastel-desaturated colors of the environment work to serve it further. The story here is a very nice one.

overRUN by Kaleido 2022-04-05T23:50:47Z

This is a really nice and simple RTS like game. The moving around of soldiers and citizens works well and makes set up positions for them easy. The graphics are pretty simple, but they work well at presenting the gameplay and aren't obtrusive. The sound effects and music help make up for it and result in a decent, well-established mood. I enjoyed this, though I struggle to see it having a strong connection to the theme.

Good work, overall.

Deck And Decay by ThorPalsson 2022-04-07T05:50:22Z

Good concept! The gameplay was solid and entertaining. The game is quite humorous and got a few chuckles out of me (I immediately scarified the guy who plays in Among Us public lobbies). The card game mechanic was not something I expected, but it was a pleasant surprise since it gives the game a unique gameplay loop. The only problem I had with it was that it was hard to initially tell how many cards to put out on the playing board-once there were two zombies, and they killed the only person I had on the board, it was game over. The graphics and sound design are functional, though they could be refined (I particularly feel like the generic font could use replacing).

Overall, really nice job! I'd like to see this game refined further in a postjam version, as I feel like this game (which is already very enjoyable, mind you) could benefit greatly from further love and attention.

Unladen Penguin by ComicSans 2022-04-06T03:02:17Z

This game is pretty rough...but I *love* it. It has a sort of chaotic factor to it that works really, really well. The graphics are nicely done, and while the sound is lacking, what's there is pretty good. The very loose controls, however, do result in a game that feels more like an experience where I suggest what to do next rather than something I'm actively controlling. Luckily, that experience is a very entertaining one, and the first time I got a game over got a laugh out of me from the sudden brutality of it.

Overall, really nice game!

Tax Evaders by Carlos Murillo 2022-04-05T03:05:19Z

This game is simple, works well, and managed to get me more scared of squares then I'll care to admit. The backgrounds are very nicely done, and the controls are quite effectively. The actual AI for the enemies is not that great, but that hardly matters when you're like me and try to embezzle close to the max amount, resulting in like four guys swarming the spot at night. The lack of sound does hurt this game quite a bit, as every other part of this game works very well. I think this is one of those games in a gamejam where I would like to see a polished postjam version of it come out.

Very nice game, overall!

Too Cute for Space Fights by YogurtTheHorse 2022-04-06T00:29:50Z

Love the art style and sound design here-the pixel art is very polished and charming, and is some of the best graphics in the game jam I've seen so far. The gameplay is simple and very easy to understand, and it makes the game approachable.

Nice work, guys!

KRANT by pepnou 2022-04-14T05:21:39Z

This was a fun game! The gameplay reminds me of *Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes* with the roles of both players combined into a singleplayer experience. The graphics are well done, and the music works at setting the mood of the entry effectively. Some sound effects, however, would've gone a long way in making this game have a stronger atmosphere. I do wish that the font for the book was different, however, as the current font with flipped letters feels like an attempt to artificially raise difficulty by making it harder to read instructions. At best, it adds to the panic when trying to figure out what to do as the reactor starts to fail, but at worst, it makes it feel like the developer is punishing me for trying to learn how to play the game. I feel like making the reactor fail quicker, or making player mistakes actively hurt them, would be smarter ways to make the game more difficulty. Other than that, though, this is a solid entry. Nice work.

Lumber Tracks by Black Flag 2022-04-13T02:40:20Z

The game is pretty good, overall. The graphics and audio fit the entry well considering the goofy concept for purposefully knocking trees in front of a moving tree. The gameplay loop is mostly satisfying, as it was fun getting up momentum for powerful axe throws. I think the main issue right now, though, is that once the train gets up to speed and passes the player (by, for example, the player throwing their axe at a tree too late so the train goes by before the tree falls), the game is essentially over as the train gets up to speeds faster than the player can move. The experience would be improved if there was a way to catch up with the train beyond hoping it hits a box and you catch it up with it then. Overall, solid entry. Nice work.

Freemine Castle by Stefan0198 2022-04-21T07:12:39Z

The presentation of this game was nice-the graphics were high-quality, and the audio set the mood well. However, I did not like the gameplay. The reliance on trial and error became frustrating when it involved up to 30 seconds worth of walking just to get back to the challenge I had failed. The rock level especially started to drive me crazy, both with it having the longest way to walk to get back to the challenge, and with the fact that the death sound effect started to drive me insane ("Nani!"). The honeycomb level also needs a lot of polish. The doors were more of an obstacle than the hand due to how hard they were to open, and the fact that it was nearly impossible to tell where the hand was, or if the hand caught me aided in that frustration. Overall, the graphics are really nice done but the gameplay could use some love and polish.

Aster Defense by emrod 2022-04-09T04:41:28Z

Pretty good, overall! The gameplay mechanics work well and are very polished, and a turret defense game where you place stuff on tiles in an orbit rather than a regular square grid makes things a bit more interesting for this type of game. I did get caught off guard by the lack of a tutorial initially, but once I read the description I got the hang of what was happening. The pixel art here is nicely done, and the sound effects work well in setting a strong mood. The game does feel a bit too easy overall, though, as from what I saw, simply putting one layer of turrets with radars every third one or so, and then a layer of shields under it works at preventing anything from ever happening.

Capture.PNG

I don't consider it a major issue, since the game is still fun, overall, and it is polished-it could just used some difficulty balancing. Overall, great entry!

Gerascophobia by aZamBie 2022-04-13T03:15:49Z

I initially got really confused on what I was doing-it turned out I had skipped the first step of unlocking the door which was why I couldn't find out where to put the flasks. I wonder if some sort of objective displayer on the UI that was constant would be a good idea (to show people that the very first step is to unlock the door, as I was busy trying to remember the different flask combinations). Some objects I was carrying phased through the wall accidentally because of how close I was to it (Goodbye, white flask. I'll miss you.). It was satisfying when I first got a combination, right, but I feel like the years removed should be a little more generous, as a little more incentive to collect and combine the flasks. When I saw that combining flasks of the same color would be bad, I thought it'd do something funny like blow me up and give me an instant game over, but having a hilarious amount of years taken from me worked too. Overall, the gameplay is functional, but could use a lot of polish. The graphics are also fine-they set the mood well-but I did notice UV stretching on a few objects. The ambience was really nice and carried a lot of the atmosphere here-I especially appreciated how they were 3D sounds and changed based on which way the camera was facing. Overall, nice job on the entry!

Mr.Filton Deluxe by DS Nahogara 2022-04-10T04:47:55Z

I had a lot of fun with this one-especially since I could poorly draw emoticons. The artstyle and music is on point for the aesthetic you're going for, and the gameplay is a defending a point game, but given so much more heart via being able to draw your own soldiers. This entry does suffer quite a bit from the drawing soldiers being all there is in terms of gameplay-with the rest of the game just being watching how things turn out. Despite that, I enjoyed my time. Good entry.

Click to Continue by Daniel Foutz 2022-04-05T03:31:22Z

I'm amazed at how this game manages to feel like an absolute waste of time, but I keep pushing the button anyways. I don't know if it's out of spite, or if it's because I just want to see if anything actually *does* happen.

Okay, this is me two minutes later. I wasn't expecting it to go in this direction, but I'm loving it. Nice job on creativity, both in terms of the concept, and in terms of where you go with it.

Walterfall by Ulisses 2022-04-06T01:38:56Z

I enjoyed my time with this one-I always have a soft spot for games that require you to use two buttons to control a character that slides around the place to avoid obstacles. The graphics all look nice, but the audio quickly got grating personally. The music is fine, though it did start to bother me after about 3-4 minutes. The sound effects for objects falling, though, was pretty persistently annoying. I wonder if adding some randomization in the pitch for the sound effects when the objects fall off would help (though I can't tell if pitch is randomized already).

Overall, simple and fun game.

Saviour by Robonaut121 2022-04-19T03:14:39Z

A simple and well-executed game, overall. The act of throwing people around gaps is fun, though I wish there was a way to more effectively aim as I often overshot my throws, causing people to be yeeted into the darkness. The graphics are well-done overall, but nothing crazy. I do wish there was audio to this piece, as I feel like it is the thing hurting this entry the most at the moment.

Battery Low by Milestone Games 2022-04-06T01:20:08Z

Really nice entry! The pixel art is nicely done, and the dithering effect on the backgrounds give the game a real 90s feel (as you probably intended). The gameplay is simple, but well done and polished (I did fail to notice the minimap the first time around though-appearently I'm not that observant). I did imagine to get myself stuck on a rock at one point resulting in a loss, but luckily the game's pick up and play design makes situations like that not so frustrating. Very solid entry!

Out Of Gas! by mortalfosca 2022-04-10T04:36:13Z

Nice job, overall. The graphics and audio are, to me, the highlight of the game, as both are very pleasing and set a very lovely and relaxed mood (ignoring all the parts where I committed vehicular manslaughter, anyways). The gameplay is simple and nothing super innovative, but is well done, overall. Some of the ways vehicles spawned would cause me to get stuck and basically made it impossible to get through without hitting anyone, though. In addition, the omission of a quit button on the main menu surprised me, considering all the effort went into the main menu. Despite these minor gripes, you guys did a great job. Congrats!

Heat Death by RoofloorWall 2022-04-10T05:19:30Z

Very simple and well done game. The gameplay loop is satisfying once I figured out what to do-especially when you're able to string up multiple hits via the use of the boosts. The graphics are simple but polished, with small flourishes such as the shaking of the star's surface as it gets closer to death, and the eventual explosion animation of the sun. The absence of audio is really what hits it most at the current point. Good job, overall!

Cat in the Bag by JoshH 2022-04-05T04:07:50Z

The artstyle is very cute, and the story is very humorous. The items are sometimes hard to guess, but luckily dialogue is skippable so it's easy to get back to where you were. The music also fits with the asethetic very well. Overall, this is a very charming game! Nice job!

QUADRATORUM by Blue Pin Studio 2022-04-05T07:28:56Z

Hello! I am loving the general vibe of this game-the graphics are simplistic, but they have a nice, deliberate polish to them, and the soundtrack is very nice. The gameplay was a little rough for me, though. I did see your comment saying that there are inconsistent effects at low volume (I am at 20 out of 100-turning it up any louder would cause my headphones to blast it at uncomfortable levels). I'm not sure if bullets are dictated by music volume, or beats in the music, but I did have issues with very few bullets spawning. It got to where most enemies were hitting me since I was firing so few bullets.

Other than the issues with not being able to defend myself, the gameplay and controls worked fine and were functional, so I don't think I can bash it too hard.

Overall, it's a very nice and stylish game!

1 Man 6 Bullets by Raphaeltan 2022-04-07T06:53:12Z

I *really* liked this entry. The graphics and audio work together wonderfully to set a strong mood, and the gameplay is really strong, balancing skill and strategy in order to produce a very satisfying, difficult gameplay loop. Just one thing:

This part of the level is comically broken and OP: Screenshot (122).png

Due to the shape of the room, bullets ricochet around for easy collection, and the hallway forces the enemies into a small space to fire bullets and take them out easily, and as long as you're aiming straight, 90% of them will come back down the hallway to be collected easily. Plus, the enemy spawn at the bottom of this triangle room allows for easy farming of bullets during combos. The end result is the player can generally just wiggle around while firing at visible enemies and just never be taken down. While I absolutely loved it, because it made me feel like a god with my 10,000 points, I imagine it was *not* intended.

Considering this is literally the one problem I can find with the game-not even like a bug, or a game design issue, but a level design quirk that is still fun in its own way-I can safely say this is a really strong entry. Wonderful job!

The Inevitable Blast! by Martin183 2022-04-06T00:10:18Z

A nice little game that fits the theme well. The controls did a great job at being confusing, causing panic when moving around desperately attempting to put out the fireballs that try to set the dynamite on fire (I'm assuming the confusing, panic-inducing controls were intentional).

Had a lot of fun with this one.

Fight The Darkness by Specturnal 2022-04-14T05:09:36Z

Well done game, overall. The pixel art is simple and charming, and the music fits the mood of the situation well. The sound effects are satisfying, in addition. The gameplay is simple and there isn't anything real innovative here, but what *is* here is very well done, and the variety of weapons (my favorite is the shark) keeps the gameplay fresh. Overall, good work!

Herbert vs Homework by Str8griz 2022-04-05T05:46:55Z

Such a weird and memorable top down shooter. I love the inclusion of a roll to help give the gameplay some more depth. The graphics and audio are well done, fitting the 8-bit style very well. The unique enemy animations and sound effects are a nice touch. The only grudge in terms of graphics I have is that I found the intro text difficult to read. Luckily, the story isn't super important here. It's the gameplay that's the focus.

High quality work, over all.

Ground From Under Feet by wild_fat 2022-04-11T17:40:34Z

I enjoyed this one! The hammer and the gun both are very satisfying weapons to use against enemies for very different reasons-(being able to use the gun as just a knockback thing to fling enemies off platforms was very amusing). The superjump is fun to use, and the gameplay loop overall is satisfying to go through. The gameplay does suffer in the sense that there simply isn't much incentive to keep anything more than 1 or 2 platforms up, as having more than that just causes the player to get stretched thin between all the forces without any benefits. Also, when it comes down to just 1 platform, the game just isn't a challenge anymore due to how easy it is to overwhelm enemies. Moving on from gameplay, the audio is functional and helps fill the world with some more life, though it doesn't particularly standout. The graphics are also functional-they look decent, and they don't get in the way of the gameplay. Overall, I played this longer than expected and managed to save 63 platforms.

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-05T08:16:27Z

I really like the gameplay here. The mix of tile-based gameplay with card deck building is interesting, and it works well here. In addition, the graphics and audio are very nice, and the music ramping up when enemies are around is a nice touch.

Colony Defender by Henrik Ganard 2022-04-05T07:19:56Z

The game is a simple RTS, but it's a well made one, overall. The 3D graphics look nice, and the music during gameplay is appealing. The main menu music being a short loop was slightly annoyed, though. I loved the camera sway when moving the camera around, since it gave the game a much smoother feeling.

Overall, nice job.

Energy tower defence by John llyod Apolo 2022-04-11T17:23:29Z

Good work. The gameplay is simple and nothing innovative, but it functions well. The graphics are clear and to the point-they don't stand out, but they also don't get in the way of gameplay at all. I did like the modelling for the grass and wall vines, though-those were a nice touch. The sound effect for the lazer gun started to get grating very quickly-having the pitch of that clip randomized each time it played would've helped with the repetitiveness of that sound clip playing. The music wasn't what I was expecting considering the evacuation story, but I kind of liked it, actually. Does give the mood a bit of a conflicted feeling, however. Despite that, this is a well done entry. Nice job.

Planet Saver by PashaLoban 2022-04-07T04:28:03Z

I had fun with this one. The pixel art is nicely done and unobtrusive, and I like the fact that the planet rotates under us rather than it being the other way around. The concept of the game is good, and the gameplay, while simple, is made a little more difficult by the fast speed of the player. However, the gameplay does feel like it could use a bit more depth, or one more mechanic or obstacle for the player. I was able to just run around the planet in a straight line and keep fixing holes without any issue, so some difficulty balancing would improve the experience. However, I feel the lack of sound is what hurts this one the most-I could see this game being elevated to the next level with some sound effects for fixing the holes, for the alert indicator, and I think a fast-beat song in the background would help establish a stronger mood.

Overall, nice work, and good improvement over last year. I remember playing *Unstable Minds*, your LD49 game, and struggling to understand the gameplay and becoming frustrated. This one is a lot more clear and forgiving, and I had a lot more fun with it as a result.

Malpractice by ikelucas 2022-04-05T02:48:52Z

This is game is funny. The circumstances and situations designed to murder your client are consistently unpredictable, and once the TV turned on, I knew this game was going to be a good one. The graphics are quite polished and nice, and the controls work well. The sound design works for enhancing gameplay and increasing tension (the heartbeat on the monitor increasing works very well).

Overall, very nice job!

Sands of Time by TheMentalSheep 2022-04-05T02:08:42Z

I had a lot of fun with this one.

The idea behind it of having your time left scarified when using your abilities is a really good one, since it requires the player to do a balancing art. The art looks quite nice, and the music is pleasant.

The controls did feel a little finicky, and I found that attacking the flying clocks for extra time simply wasn't worth it since it'd result in more time lost than gained. Beyond that, I enjoyed this. It would be nice to see the concept expanded.

Super Mowser Bros by Guilloteam 2022-04-13T02:57:36Z

This is a very nicely done entry! The gameplay is probably one of the most well-done in the game jam, in terms of tower defense-like games. I initially got confused because I didn't know you had to assign soldiers to construct stuff, or that you could drag the soldiers to the little circles to assign them to buildings. I'm pretty sure you went over that in the tutorial, and that the information just dropped out of my head when I started playing. The graphics are very cute and the audio is charming. I did notice some areas where it looked like parts of the environment were being rendered over UI elements that made it difficult to place enemies where I intended-it wasn't a massive issue, but it's something that could be polish up. Overall, excellent entry. Here's where I made it before I decided to stop playing:

The Average Quest by MelekTaus 2022-04-07T17:33:19Z

It's a simple, but charming platformer. The gameplay works well and each new gameplay mechanic implemented does a good job at building upon the current moveset. The level design also does a great job taking advantage of all the abilities. The pixel art is simple, but cute, and the music and sound design are very pleasing and fitting. I did get confused initially by the use of 'Space' when talking to the monster, but I managed to figure it out. I also learned that my browser's hotkey for creating a new bookmark is 'Ctrl + D', which made jetpacking to the left go comically wrong half the time (though, that's no fault of the game. I just thought it was funny).

Overall, very nice work.

The VortExperience by Hawkin 2022-04-13T03:44:22Z

Nice game! The voice acting is very amusing, and gives me heavy Cave Johnson vibes (I will also definitely not mention how Carol is very similar to Caroline). The gameplay is simple, but works well enough. However, it seems to be more used as a vehicle to continue driving the story and the humor rather than anything else, so it's not exactly what I was focusing on here. The graphics are functional-nothing super amazing, but work well with establishing the mood and keep gameplay easily readable. The audio is also well done. Overall, great entry!

Definitely not Titanic by Charles Viau 2022-04-06T03:17:37Z

This is a nice concept for tying a real life event to the theme. The amount of love and attention given to this-with the high quality cutscenes, and the well-done voxel style. The music during gameplay works well at giving a tense, upbeat feeling. The gameplay is simple but well done, and the end cutscene with the main character just leaping off a piece of wood is comical. Nice entry!

I Love My Sheep by his-games 2022-04-15T04:56:18Z

Such a charming little game! The graphics and audio are very well done-I loved the music in particular. The gameplay loop is fun in how it encourages experimentation and exploration of the uses of the resources the player currently has. It does run into the issue of a lack of incentive or motivation to get back to where you were after reaching a game over. This is mainly due to the fact that it resets the player back to square one. A gameplay loop that encourages exploration of the current uses of resources like this one does can run into problems if the player can't easily hop back into exploring those new resources (if there aren't other mechanics to keep the player entertained), since it basically forces the player to tread old ground. Some people may enjoy that experience, though, so it's a preference sort of thing. Overall, this was a very well done game. Congrats!

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-09T04:58:15Z

Really nice game, overall! The point and click gameplay makes it very quick to pick up and understand, and the art style is very well done. I was initially thinking this was just going to be going around the house collecting things with a monster chasing me-what I wasn't expecting was the overall story for the game, and the changes in the environment as Abby slowly gets more and more tired. I was genuinely hooked, and then the bug happened.

Capture.PNG

I saw @cyzaine addressed this issue with another comment, actually-the comment had a screenshot almost exactly like this one (Though they were in OperaGX. I'm in Firefox,). From what I'm seeing, you guys are also being very proactive in attacking bugs and further refining and polishing your game, which is great to see! It's a shame that my run was stopped by a softlock, but it's Ludum Dare-they happen .

Overall, despite the bug, this was great work! I only critique I had was that the music started feeling repetitive after a bit of time.

Department Of Demise by Crychair 2022-04-09T06:29:46Z

From the voice acting and the high-quality art, to the amount of love given to the game page, it is clear a lot of effort went into this game, and it was worth it. The writing for the game is great, and the gameplay is unique for this game jam and insanely more satisfying than I thought it would be. Things got complicated, but they never felt like they got extremely unmanageable-there was a really difficulty curve here. Graphics and audio contribute to a strong mood, overall, and of course the concept of the game matches the theme very well. The *only* thing I was this game had was a form of tutorial, as even after reading the description and the controls, I failed almost instantly three times while I experimented to figure out exactly what I was supposed to be doing. Other than that, this was amazing. Wonderful job!

The Assessment by Okamit 2022-04-07T04:55:57Z

Firstly, *very* nice touch with the page background perfectly blending in-I really liked that. Secondly, very nice entry! This is a good collection of WarioWare like minigames with a comedic story attached to it. I never played WarioWare games before, so this was a new experience for me-I quickly learned I sucked at them. The artstyle and music is also very charming and add to the games upbeat, comedic mood. Overall, good entry!

Healer's Handbook by javi7 2022-04-12T01:41:17Z

Wow. I was *not* expecting such an intense experience from that-that was great! The pixelart style is very well done, and the music does a great job of setting up a tense mood. The gameplay itself is also an interesting concept generally well-executed. When I was on a roll, etching out all the different combinations for healing spells at fast speed was very satisfying. Of course, that was always until I ended up in a panic and inevitably ruined a spell or forgot to watch my mana. There were a few times where it felt like my mouse should've registered dragging over one and didn't, though that might've just been me going fast.

Overall, very nice work! I managed to get 4 out of 5 books. Capture.PNG

The Inevitable Sinking by Alpha Wolf Studios 2022-04-05T04:39:06Z

The graphics and music here were very nicely done! The gameplay is simple, but entertaining, especially with all the enemy types (I'm sorry, Ariel. I never wanted to hurt you.).

The sound effects were generally good, but the bell dong from firing started to get grating. Since this is in Unity, and I'm imagining the bell dong is from one audio source, a simple randomized float applied to the audio source's pitch before playing the sound would work to break up the monotony.

The game was easy, until, like everyone else, Level 3 decided to come around and show me why I shouldn't relax. (Ariel got her revenge.)

Nice game! Had a lot of fun with it.

Escape Grades by naplz 2022-04-05T02:14:44Z

This is an amusing little game. I found the destruction physics on the objects nice. The controls were fine, though I really wish there was a mouse sensitivity option (it was *really* low for me).

The music and sound design worked for what they were, though it wasn't really my style and started to get a little grating. I also managed to softlock the game when Mom arrived back home by bringing up the pause menu. Whoops.

Capture.PNG

Despite that, I had fun with it.

Death is inevitable by RedFusion 2022-04-21T06:30:29Z

This is a decent entry, overall. The graphics are decent, and the music contributes to a panicked mood. The controls feel a little weird, mainly due to how the character instantly snaps to the different tracks. I also feel like there should be a bit more variety in the kinds of objects to avoid and their layout on the tracks, as it felt quite repetitive. Despite those issues, I had fun. Nice work.

Catocalypse by Neshtyak 2022-04-07T17:26:02Z

The gameplay was a little bit of a struggle to understand (I didn't know you actively how to lock onto the cats with the left click), but once I got it, I had fun. The concept is interesting, and the artstyle is cute. I especially like the intro cutscene. The graphics and audio come together nicely and give them a good, upbeat (and slightly intense) mood. The main thing I can thing about improving is better communication of how exactly the mechanics work.

Other than that, nice entry.

Gods of Divine Stuff: RAgnarök by Anaxie Studio 2022-04-15T05:33:14Z

This is a well executed tower defense game! The character art is very nice and stands out. Overall, the art and dialogue is charming and well done, and the music fits the Egyptian theme well. The sound effects are also nice and give the game a lot more life. The gameplay is good, overall, and the inclusion of fast forward button is very nice for once I was finished putting down new characters. Having a sort of tutorial level with dialogue was a very nice touch, as well. The game did feel a little too easy for my own liking, but that didn't effect my enjoyment of the game. Overall, you did great work!

Majellan by Reulan 2022-04-19T03:41:57Z

This was an interesting concept-having the player character shift over time, with unique controls for each phase makes for gameplay was a surprising amount of depth. The music aids in giving the game a very abstract feel, and I think the game lands a pretty good mood overall. I do think the game is a little too brutal in terms of difficulty, as it was hard to get the hang of things initially. This game would likely benefit from a kind of tutorial or introductory level that is smaller and simpler in scale. Despite that, this is a nicely executed game for this jam. Nicely done.

ENDURACE - Drift Or Die by Phillip Scott 2022-04-07T08:10:25Z

Fun game! The driving mechanics function well and it was satisfying to get ahead of other racers. The beginning was initially chaotic as I was less driving and more getting pushed around, but as vehicles distanced a little bit was when it really shined. One of my favorite bits of this jam will likely always be the moment I watched a car take a ramp and blow up on the other side, take the ramp myself and start going into a nosedive, only to bounce off the top of the car and flip all the way around to land back on my wheels. God, I wish I was recording so I could put a GIF. The graphics are really appealing, and the 3D particle effects add a lot to the exploding of cars. The music was a little repetitive, but it did fit the mood, and the rest of the audio was great.

Overall, great job!

Mortal Compass by JakubBala 2022-04-13T03:52:19Z

Great entry! The pixel art here is very charming, and the audio work in tandem to set a downcast mood for the game. The gameplay loop is simple, but satisfying, and quite well balanced. It was very satisfying to figure out where people were within the world from the realm of the dead, in order to pop in right on top of them and slash them. In addition to the crowd of ghosts that follow you once you get a lot of souls, it makes the game shine as a fast-paced game requiring quick thinking. I kind of wish there was a faster and more tense version of the gameplay music that came in based on how many souls you reaped that would play if you where in the dead realm-I feel like that would set a really strong mood.

Overall, this is a very well done entry with very little flaws (beyond maybe the difficulty with more ghosts, but I kind of liked it?). Good job!

Princess: Unwed by saintchristopher777 2022-04-19T04:09:57Z

Interesting concept-I liked the idea of gathering information on a suitor while never being quite sure of where they were, and never actually interacting with them. However, I did struggle a lot with getting information, or properly guessing where the suitor is going. I feel like having the actual map pop up when pressing 'Select Destination' and being able to choose from there would help streamline things, especially if it was possible to look at the letters at the same time (if they were off on the right side of the screen and the map for select a destination was on the left). As is, it feels like the information needed to pull everything off is a bit too segmented and separated from each other-a revised and streamlined UI system that makes it easier for the player to survey all the information they have at once would help the player focus on the strategic gameplay. Beyond that, the only other thing is that the music does start to get repetitive after a while. Despite those issues, this is a very nicely done entry, and I love the unique gameplay loop in this game.

Mad Monkey Manor by not-tomo 2022-04-07T08:20:16Z

I had so much fun with this. I love the intro cutscene-the style reminds me of *Undertale* quite a bit, and the initial tutorial does a great job of getting the player used to the mechanics. The environment art is okay, but where the graphics shine are with the character art and animations. The use of dubstep for once the monkeys are introduced is perfect for setting a feeling of complete panic, and shoutout to the programmer who coded the monkeys to spaz out when chasing you sometimes or when going for a banana.

The gameplay mechanics are very polished and well-done, and every action feels purposeful. Overall, everything comes together and gives a feeling of adrenaline pumping through your veins as you avoid an onslaught of monkeys. It, in fact, did so well that when about 12 monkeys dove for me all at once, I accidentally breathed while swallowing the monkey I was drinking. I proceeded to choke on water while repeatedly panic rolling (and then died 10 seconds later). Thanks for that.

Overall, amazing job!

IBYH!? by Trabasura 2022-04-07T05:23:23Z

This game has a very unique tone for this game jam, and the concept of a getaway chase for Wario Ware-like minigames works surprisingly well. The art and music are very nicely done and fit the overall aesthetic of the well extremely well. I did struggle with the gameplay in some cases, but Wario Ware-like games are usually meant to be retried repeatedly in order to fully grasp all the minigames and how they work, so I don't see too much of a problem with that. I really liked the concept of characters being representative of the amount of lives a player has-that's a unique addition to this genre of game, and it gives the game all the more character. Very nicely done!

Pixel-Panic by IdeasPerSecond 2022-04-07T06:14:09Z

I really loved playing this one! In terms of this jam, I think it's the one that does "easy to learn, hard to master" the best. The simplistic mechanics, combined with the physics on enemy cubes result in a surprisingly amount of gameplay depth. One can't just simply sit in the middle of the screen and move around slightly-you have to be moving around in order to get the velocity of enemies high enough to cause them to skyrocket off the screen, or to get them to run into each other and cause them to ping off. As a result of that, along with the introduction of new enemy types, gameplay gets very hectic quickly and it is glorious to behold. The graphics and audio are very simple here, but I don't think I'd want it any other way. With a game this fast-paced and hectic, the simple presentation allows players to focus on the game and responding to enemy manuevers.

Overall, good concept, excellent execution, and great submission. Good job!

The Final Day by Very Bad Bunny Studio 2022-04-05T03:23:17Z

This game very much harkens back to 90s text-RPG games, and I very much like that. The sprite work, color choices, and font selections all fit that style very cohesively. SFX are very simplistic and 8-bit (again, matching the style this piece is going for). It's impressive just how much is here in terms of exploration and enemies. Random encounters are very pleasant. I especially loved when I went into the 'florest' (sorry, guys, couldn't resist).

This game was a lot of fun! Nice work!

Sweet Bedtime O' Mine by K4M1 2022-04-15T06:15:54Z

Very simple, cute game. The spritework for the cat is really cute, and the graphics and audio are generally very nice. The gameplay does feel like it could use some work since I mainly just stood in one place and held 'J' to continuously shoot at the enemies until they were dead-maybe more aggressive AI were be beneficial to this game? The inclusion of a boss was a very nice touch, but I was able to beat the boss by standing in the center, only moving out of his way while he was going around the arena, while holding the 'J' button. This also runs into the issue of the melee attack basically being useless, as you're more likely to hurt yourself from touching the enemy when you're trying to get close enough to be able to hit them.

Despite the gameplay issues, I had a lot of fun causing the cat to be late for work. Nice entry.

Plague Fail by Dogez 2022-04-15T06:07:27Z

This is a interesting game that would shine with a bit more love. The graphics are very impressive, but they feel like they run worse than they should (I was barely reaching 60 with an RTX 2060). This feels like a game that has almost suffered as a result of the graphics due to the performance, and due to the download size. The most successful game jam games tend to be the ones that are the most easily accessible to all, and this sadly isn't.

The combination of the graphics and the audio create a strong mood, and having the village in the background in the fog is a great form of environmental storytelling. I wanted to see what this world exactly was. The gameplay is arguably the weakest part here-while the collecting of materials for the cure works well enough, the combat system is very basic and simply not fun since it is just swinging at the villagers repeatedly waiting to see if either you or them die first. A sort of dodge/leap back would probably help the combat feel a bit more fleshed out.

Overall, this is a good entry, especially since from what I saw in the dev accounts, most of you are still pretty new to game jams. It'll be nice to see what comes from this team next.

Bitboy by Proxy-Games 2022-04-07T03:57:13Z

@otterfaelure Firstly, thanks for the kind words! Secondly, you actually pointed out something I didn't realize-the game is actually programmed to be able to use 'Left Control' for the slide as well, but I forgot to put it in the page descriptions since this game was submitted in the final hour. I've updated the descriptions now, so hopefully others don't run into the same issue as well.

Bitboy by Proxy-Games 2022-04-07T08:52:35Z

@alexsolonnikovp4 To keep things vague, let's just say the game is hiding something that becomes very apparent after about 2 minutes of accumulative platforming. If your curious, it'd be best to return to the game and see how things go down.

@his-games Thank you for the very in-depth review! I'm sorry *Bitboy* wasn't a fun experience. There *are* reasons for the games unimpressive gameplay and graphics, which are set up that way to subvert expectations with a twist that occurs after about 2-3 minutes of platforming. Regardless of intention, though, it is still a failure of design on my part if I don't make the experience entertaining enough to get people to the part that subverts those expectations, especially when the twist requires refreshing the browser page.

If you're still curious and confused about what this game is meant to be, you can check out this stream of someone playing it (https://www.twitch.tv/nardandas20/v/1446823757?sr=a&t=4297s @ 1:11:35). About 3 minutes or so of it should help clear up what this game was going for, and where the focus on development laid.

Choboro by DaivyIsHere 2022-04-12T07:24:06Z

Very interesting idea! I struggled a lot with the controls initially-it seems like the dragging for the creatures and the strength seems to work more like a golf game where you drag back the point rather than drag towards the direction you want it to go, which wasn't what I was expecting. Once I got the handle of that concept, though, I started to enjoy my time with this one a lot more. There were points were the creatures were heading down at the two doors at a velocity to where they actually pushed the doors out of the way despite me pushing the doors button, which caused some frustration. However, that was the only issue I had with the game's physics. The graphics and audio are simple, but effective at establishing a calm and relaxing atmosphere for the game. Overall, very nice work.

Dilate the time! by milq 2022-04-06T02:16:58Z

This was a simple but effective game. The controls themselves are simple, but the gameplay is expanded by having to collect keys and being able to grab boots that dilate time. The graphics are simple but cohesive, and the sound effects work nicely. The music is simple, and I was originally unimpressed, until I realized that the pitch of the music was going down over time due to the time dilation, which was a very nice touch.

I didn't manage to get to my loved one in time, but I got to hang out with her corpse for 10 seconds before I died, too, so that's pretty cool I guess. Good game, overall.

Wait For It ! by Forgin Bits 2022-04-13T04:13:53Z

Nice entry! The WarioWare like mini games are surprisingly addictive in this one, and they are well-designed enough to where I was able to get the jist of them the first time around. I like this is the first entry of the jam where I legitimately got agitated about losing some mini-games (the falling candles having collision that blocks other ones screwed me over *so many times*). Despite this, however, they felt (95% percent of the time) fair. The artstyle and audio is charming and well done, and the overall concept fits the theme well. The addition of online leaderboards is very impressive, especially for a compo.

Overall, you did great work for this entry. It took a few tries, but I was able to get my name on the board tying for 3rd place. Yay, me.

Streets of the Dead by Neon Orbis 2022-04-14T08:57:31Z

Interesting concept. Applying a sort of card game like this to a zombie apocalypse is not an idea I've really seen before, and it does a good job at making something as repetitive and overused as zombies more refreshing. Unfortunately, I had a hard time really understanding all the mechanics at play here-this game would've benefited more than others in the jam from a tutorial due to the rules in actions, turns, and combat. The graphics and audio are both functional, enhancing the mood and making sure gameplay is understandable. The UI layout in this game is generally good, which is especially important considering how much UI is used in this game. Overall, while this game needs more polish, it's a decent entry, and it is always refreshing to see weird and experimental ideas within a game jam. Nice work!

Stay Afloat by Fredrik Rosell 2022-04-14T05:52:16Z

Decent game, overall. The platforming works well, and the battery acts a good timer to force the player to move forward. I'm sort of confused on the power mechanic as I never ended up using it during my playthrough, so I have no idea what functionality that may or may not have had. The graphics aren't anything spectacular, but they do a good job at keeping gameplay generally clear and readable-though it was hard to see underwater at times. The music is also decent and unobtrusive. Nice job.

The End Is Coming by MOOOKS 2022-04-21T06:06:52Z

I think I've had some years taken off my life with how fast my heart was beating, but I managed to dethrone the champion.

Capture.PNG

This game is really, *really* fun. It is such a simple game mechanic wise, but it is so well polished and well done that it hardly matters. The pacing of the game in terms of the meteor speeding up is really well done, and the powerups come at a rate that feels fair and balanced, and the variety in the powerups is enough to keep the game fresh. I feel like after 230 or so, the meteor does become basically impossible to handle with the current size of the game screen. However, the theme is 'delay the inevitable' for a reason, so I guess it fits. The graphics and audio are also nicely done and enjoyable.

Overall, excellent work!

Way before death by Arfilish 2022-04-11T17:17:11Z

Nice work for a compo piece. The controls make this game interesting and difficult (in a good way), and it fits the theme well. The graphics and audio are generally good, though I feel like there should've been a bit more audio balancing (some of the sound effects were *really* loud in my ear compared to everything else). I did get frustrated a few times due to not being able to pick up a cube despite facing it, but it wasn't a regular occurence. Part of me also wishes there wasn't so much velocity on the boxes when putting them down since it causes game over's in a few cases, but I get that this is supposed to be one of those 'tugging your hair out from anger' kind of games. Overall, solid work. Congrats!

Can't Tax Me by SasquatchBStudios 2022-04-06T01:33:43Z

Fun game, overall! The graphics and sound design are solid, and it's hard to find anything to complain about in terms of them. The gameplay is a lot of fun, and it is very satisfying to take down enemies. The camera shake during slashes, and the graphics and sound effects during special moves makes it VERY satisfying.

The only thing that really agitated me when playing was enemies attacking from below. This works fine when the player has powerups such as the bombs to counteract it, but during the first round it just comes across as frustrating and cheap on the AI's part.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with this one a lot! I managed to get to reputation level 114.

Distance of Heaven by Little-Rain 2022-04-05T02:34:05Z

This is a fun concept, and one that I could see expanded in a larger, more polished concept. As of right now, this game does suffer from a lack of polish, as it was hard to tell how long I was delaying, which would've help in planning attacks better. The graphics for are cute and simplistic, and the controls are very responsive (ironically, considering the whole delay thing). It was especially satisfying when I managed to target a lightning strike in a way that burnt down a majority of a settlement.

Nice work.

Dino Defense by 3BT 2022-04-10T04:03:19Z

Hello, I enjoyed my time with this one. The gameplay, while nothing exciting or innovative, works well and is decently balanced in terms of difficulty. The artstyle is cute, and the walk cycle on the dinosaur is nicely done. The music, while nothing standout, does well at setting the mood and tone of the gameplay. I did initially get confused because I thought 'wood' was 'bronze', since I thought everything was going to be a metal or rock of some sort, but I quickly figured out what it actually was. I do wish for better controls, though I didn't have too many issues with it. Overall, good job.

Darko by Sodoj 2022-04-07T04:39:17Z

The gameplay here is a lot of fun. The platforming, fighting gameplay and use of 2D sprites in 3D environments reminds me a lot of a entry from last year, [Tables & Tremors](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/tables-tremors). I enjoyed that one a lot, and the same is the case here. The artstyle and audio are both very well done and give a strong atmosphere to the entry, and it overall fits the theme well. I did struggle with the first person perspective and platforming with this game, admittedly. I also had an issue with the camera continuously rotating to the left unless I went fullscreen, but absolutely no one else is reporting that problem, so I think it's a hardware thing on my end.

Overall, very nice work!

Over the Rainbow Bridge by Iguanana 2022-04-05T03:10:48Z

Very simple, very quick-it lasts less than a minute-and that's why it works well. The game gets in with a sweet, little story, and leaves before it becomes too intrusive or overstays it's welcome (not that it was much of a risk.). The graphics are nice. The music is a little too simple for me, but it works for the game, and the sound effects are effective.

Nice game-didn't expect a nice story in such a short timeframe.

I Sink Not by eeldam 2022-04-09T04:25:50Z

Very relaxing artstyle and music for the game. The gameplay is simple and kind of zen-inducing in its simplicity, and it gives the game a very strong mood overall. I did initially think that the sound effect indicating stuff was breaking was just duck quack SFX as ambience, and got confused when my big ship started sinking. After two fails, though, I understood what was going on and managed to make it to 10k. Overall, very nice entry.

Dungeon Crawl by jzucc12 2022-04-19T03:27:29Z

Interesting idea for a game-actively trying to thwart progress in escaping is a nice way of making the gameplay refreshing, as it becomes a balancing act of surviving while still not doing great, rather than doing as best as you can. The graphics and audio work well enough in setting a mood, and the overall RPG-like gameplay is well-balanced. Overall, this was a really nice entry, and a unique concept in the game jam.

Cold and Alone by David York 2022-04-05T03:37:51Z

Wow. For a game jam, this is *really* good. The pixel art is very nice and well-done, the gameplay and story do a great job of making the player feel the tension of the situation. The lack of music is probably the only thing I can hold against it, since adding some would really help fill out the atmosphere.

The controls were slightly wonky, in that moving up and down would help the rover straight, but moving left or right would move the rover on an isometric plane, I think? I can't tell how well I'm explaining it, but it did make navigating sometimes frustrating, especially when time is such an essential resource in the game.

Despite that, everything else about this game is excellent. Wonderful work.

RESET by Kazuren 2022-04-09T07:16:02Z

Good game, overall. The animation on the sprites was quite impressive and the sound design was solid, overall, especially with the changing in pitch of the music. The story was pretty engaging, and I enjoyed the interactions with the character. I did find the ending not exactly satisfying, however. I thought it'd be something where we'd have the choice at the end to go into another world or not, and either end would be unhappy, though it'd leave the story feeling complete. As of right now...I don't know, it feels like it just suddenly cuts off before it properly built up an end. I think it was because I was expecting at least one more interaction with the professor to sort of wrap up the character development between him and the main character before the ending happened (since this game was doing about one major character death per reset).

Regardless of that minor gripe, I enjoyed this piece a lot, and it is always nice to see jam entries with a focus on story.

TimeCave by Karahan 2022-04-10T05:03:14Z

Wow. I am bad at this game. This was about 50% of my playthrough.

I_am_so_bad_why.gif

Beautiful.

On to the actual review, this is great! The pixel art is very nicely done, overall, and the audio adds to it to build a strong atmosphere for the game. The pixel art for the UI here especially is a great attention to detail. The gameplay is simple (which makes the above more embarrassing), but very polished and well made (having a little power bar goes a long way). Very nicely done!

Lava Land by kleszcz 2022-04-21T05:42:22Z

This is a decent entry, overall. I feel like the game suffers from a lack of direction, though-I'm guessing the structures block/slow down the lava? Regardless, the controls worked well. I did feel like the sound effect for stuff burning was a little uncomfortable with how low and distorted it is, but the other sound effect for gaining more settlements was quite satisfying. Overall, this is a nice compo entry.

Corgi, Protecc! by JuulH 2022-04-07T04:46:21Z

So I have to admit I didn't read the description. My god, am I glad I didn't. It made the peaceful menu transitoning into the heavy metal with the gun a lot more comedic. The gameplay is simple, but very well exectued, and ramps up in difficulty surprisingly quick. The aforementioned heavy metal, along with the rest of the sound effects, do a great job of setting the tone, and I loved the old man's little quips inside the building (The music *is* boppin). Overall, great job!

HungryBot by Aka Black Dog 2022-04-15T04:43:14Z

Such a cute little bullet hell like game. I was initially confused about what I was meant to do, but it was very quick and easy to get the hang of what was going on. The game play is well-executed for what it is, and the graphics are simple, but get the job done. I enjoyed the music way more than I thought I would. Part of me wishes that the game was *a little* more difficult and chaotic, only because I think it would instill more panic in me, and therefore more enjoyment. Overall, nice job!

Kinderkaos by Gravityflip 2022-04-07T07:29:10Z

Really funny game. I was expecting some of the deaths, since they don't get mentioned in the instructions, but that's part of what makes the game so entertaining. The concept is unique, and I haven't seen another game approach the theme in quite this way. The artstyle in cute and charming, but the music does start to get grating after a bit of time. It fits the asethetic of preschool well and gives a cohesive mood to it, but it does get repetitive. In the end, though, I managed to get through the day with only 2 dead toddlers-above average in terms of daycares.

Overall, 10/10 would get hit by a car trying to keep a toddler from getting run over again.

Battery Buisness by Smoofy 2022-04-10T06:15:37Z

Very simple game that works well, overall. Considering this is your first game jam, and the fact you made this in 6 hours, it is solid. The graphics are visually pleasing, and they are simple enough to where they don't effect gameplay in any negative way. The gameplay loop is simple enough and nothing crazy, but it works well enough. It's especially impressive given this is Scratch, which is quite limiting.

I do share the sentiment of others about the usage of audio, since in this business it can get you in a *lot* of trouble due to stuff having copyright protection (though I imagine if Toby Fox came across this, he wouldn't mind too much considering this is your first time and you do source his work). However, for future jams, you can find a lot of [free](https://www.free-stock-music.com/) [audio](https://freesound.org/home/tosacceptance/) [online](https://incompetech.com/). Be sure for look for the licenses on them, or if you can't find any, check to see if the website has an FAQ section that talks about what you can do with stuff from the site and what they ask for in return (some creators/sites ask for credit in the game, for example). The safest license for anything (audio/music included) is CC0, or Creative Commons 0, which is a license that makes them effectively public domain. They are safe to use for whatever without any strings attached, but its still nice to give credit to the person who originally made it.

Overall, good job. Considering it sounds like you'll be moving on to another (more liberating) game engine at some point, it'll be interesting to see what you make next.

Brakeless by silkmeloni 2022-04-05T04:15:28Z

This is a fun game in terms of mechanics. There isn't too much to the gameplay, but what's here is nice. The strong steering does a great job at making any movement panicky. The lack of any audio hurts the atmosphere quite a bit, but it's luckily held up by the nice graphics and the fun steering.

I was going to put humor low, until I accidentally committed a crime.

I can explain, officer.

Nice game, overall.

Life Finds a Way by Mopifish 2022-04-07T06:05:06Z

The gameplay is simple, but very well done, and works to the browser format very well. Not having tools default back to where they originally spawned was a very smart idea, as it turned tool management and placement into a very important mechanic for the game. I'm clearly not that good at it, though-I only managed to get to year 77 as I struggled to grab the right tool.

The story is effective, and Balthazar is charming in his dialogue boxes. However, his dialogue boxes *did* occasionally get stuck, which was initially confusing and made me worry that the game was soft-locked until I saw the skip button. The graphics and audio are also simple but effective, working well to establish a mood while not getting in the way of the gameplay.

In the end, there isn't any real major gripes I have towards the game beyond the glitch with the dialogue boxes. Nice work.

Last Night at Tax fraud by iMadislol 2022-04-11T17:09:22Z

Nice game-this reminds me a lot of *Welcome To The Game*, with a dash of *FNAF 4* for the door mechanic. The artstyle and audio design is effective at setting a generally tense mood without it being overbearing, and the use of sound for certain mechanics is a very nice touch. The take on the theme is an interesting one, and it's always nice to see horror-based entries. I feel like the game is a bit too harsh, since I did end up having where I got attacked and lost a few times within 15 seconds of starting typing. The first time around, I had only begun to notice the window sounds and pull back from the computer when I got attacked and hit with a game over. It might be good to have a minute or so of leeway before the Tax Man comes around to allow players to experiment with the controls and get prepared, and then have his aggressiveness increase as the player gets farther into the game. I do follow the sentiments of the above comment as well with a WebGL build. While I and others are fine with downloading files, others do not feel so comfortable, or do not have available storage, or have slow download speeds. Having a WebGL build can *really* help in being able to push your game during a jam and get more people to play it.

Overall, very nice work!

StopShot by AugustCoder 2022-04-10T04:17:13Z

The concept here is pretty good! While the game *is* rough, you did well considering it's your first jam and you only had 24 hours! The controls work well, and the main issue the game faces is adjustments to collision and hitboxes. There's nothing special about the art, but it is at least clear and doesn't disorient players. Nice work overall!
