Hello ! Infortunatly, the game failed to initialize on my side (chrome on PC) avec the talk with my boss.
@pixelstuff Hey! We had some game breaking bug, it should be fixed now.
Let me just start by saying that I would istantly play a longer version of this, I'm a total sucker for these comfy cute text based games. I had a lot of fun going through it and meeting the various characters, I feel strongly represented by Fronk :^). The humour was spot on and the Stacy part had me laughing irl, also the mood was amazing and the pixelated art too. My only small complaint is that I get what you were going for with the super pixelated font but sometimes it was hard to read.
@mmisspelling Thanks so much! And agree on the font feedback - we could have picked a more readable one. We actually begun development in PICO-8 but then decided to migrate to Love2D to be able to fit more complex music, and the font just kinda followed along (I deliberately picked the pico-8 font). Glad you liked it! :)
This game is really great. Absolutely the kind of game I would buy if it were any longer. The font was extremely hard to read, though.
So I'm obsessed with Fronk and want a whole game about him, I was laughing out loud every time he was on screen. This is a really cute and funny concept, but there are a couple parts I thought could use some work. The bits with Stacy made me incredibly uncomfortable, I get thats kind of the point but it was laid on a little thick. I would have liked a little more humour and caricature to that aspect of the game. I think the game would also benefit from an epilepsy warning, the moving font, mixed with how incredibly difficult to read the font it, made for a headache-inducing experience. I stuck through to the end just because I love the humour of the game and the art is really charming and simple. Great game, just needs a couple small tweaks!
Good story, but the font it's very confusing and hard to read.
Oh other people already mentioned the font. I can't quite describe my problem with it, just that like it felt like I had to super focus to read. But otherwise a very cute and stylistic game!
It is a pretty straightforward text adventure without much choice, but it was still a fun romp to read through!
Good writing and good text effects with really good music with it. I think I noticed some of the character's audio text effects were switched around at some points, making it sound like it was the main character saying stuff.
Top notch humor throughout, it was enjoyable all the way through!
I had a good time playing this, really funny (and pretty relatable tbh). :D Thanks for sharing!
For next time, maybe consider a slightly more readable font, but other than that, good stuff!
Short und funny story to play. Love how the effects are perfectly used in the text. The font is sometimes hard to read, especially when in movement
Thanks everyone, we really appreciate your comments! As @toppervideogames mentioned we accidentally put the wrong sfx on some lines, we were pretty stressed towards the deadline
@BridgeFromTV Glad you liked the Fronk bits, we had a ton of fun writing him. I put an epilepsy warning in as per your suggestion!
The game was really funny. I had a good time playing it, and the music and sound effects were really well done as well!
Honestly I'm genuinely floored by the presentation here - this is a really well-put-together visual novel. I loved the wild text effects you had going on.
I have two issues, one more serious than the other. One is that it's hard to tell at times who's talking - there's quote marks, yes, but I got really confused at Fronk and Stacy's scenes because I mistook their dialogue for the protagonist's. The second is...everything with Stacy is ***really, really gross.*** Like I get the whole succubus angle, but the narration is trying *way* too hard to have its cake and eat it too, like, "she's *sooooo* sexy we're going to go through the whole thesaurus describing her boobs, but it's okay since she's evil and you're being brainwashed."
It's a shame, because I really liked everything else (especially FRONK ASCENDED!), but the Stacy scene was enough to put a big dent in my enjoyment.
Okay, the game crashed on me on the part where the succubus began to suck my lifeforce or something... But this game really went on steroids, I give you that 😂
@tomssuli oh! we thought we eliminated all crashes... :( glad you liked it at least!
i never clickd on reject stacy! i promise i never will! nice little run ! i loved it pretty fun!
Thank you all so much for the kind comments and constructive feedback!
I knew the Stacy stuff was going to be divisive, haha... That scene was supposed to be completely ridiculous, shameless and on-the-nose, with no subtlety whatsoever. We had a really fun time writing that part, but of course it saddens me that it made it difficult for some people to enjoy the game. Ultimately, me and @liquidfunk write dialogue with ourselves as the audience, with the sole purpose of making the other person laugh. Often (and almost as a rule) the end result is stupid and immature. But that's how we like it... Thank you for sticking through with the game despite the parts that were difficult to get through!
So, I overall very much enjoyed the game! The humor was fantastic, and I enjoyed how the text changed to emphasize the mood! However, I wasn't *really* a fan of the end. ._. I understand that it was meant to be an over-the-top, weird, crazy thing...however, it was also frustrating for me to be like, "Mmmmm nope, I would like to reject her thanks", but nothing happened and in order to make the game go forward, I had to pick the option I didn't want. Ultimately, that's probably my biggest gripe: I'm used to dialogue menus wherein your choice actually mildly affects/controls the flow of the game, but that didn't seem to be the case here.
I personally didn't have any problems reading the text, though. And I really truly did enjoy the humor (with the exception of the bit with Stacy at the end). It had me chuckling throughout, and the music seemed to fit just right, too. I especially enjoyed how the tempo picked up when you encounter the "ascended." Good job c:
Pretty good game yeah. Great humor and pretty good music. I liked how much the text changed after the nap. The ascended fronk is the one true god. Not too sure how it related to the theme tho. Overall, good game.
So firstly, Fronk is incredibly relatable and deserves his own game. That being said, I like the style and presentation of this game! One of the few games this jam that made me chuckle to myself a few times.
With that being said, I feel like this type of game would benefit a lot from some type amount of choice or player agency. As it is, it's pretty much just going through all of the existing dialogue options until you get to the end. Also, the font used can be a bit hard to read at some points (specifically M's and W's imo), I understand you were going for a specific look, but I feel like a game that is mostly reading text should have extremely clear and readable text.
All in all, very cool! I would definitely play a full version of this type of game
I really enjoyed going along with this adventure. The dialogue is very charming and humorous. The game has a very interesting art style, and it is charming, but the font choice to go along with that art style is definitely to read at points. I love the little details such as the way you made it where you can change how violently some text shakes. This really aids in adding character to the(uh) characters. The sound effects match up really well with the art style. The only disapointing thing about the game is how suddenly it ends-I would love to see this turned into a full story. Nice work!
cannot run on linux. gave x permission and tried to run but it failed
$ ./milburt.love bash: ./milburt.love: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error
any suggestion?
@leggy as stated on itch, you need to install Love2D and use that to run the game!
@leggy If that is not clear enough then after installing Love2D you should run
love milburt.love
And not treat it as an exe like you did!
Very cool example of interactive fiction.
I liked the font effects, but agree with another comment, that some letters are hard to read. Graphics in general were very cool and were consistent in a style.
It also wasn't immediately clear how to navigate within the dialogues.
I enjoyed the humour and chuckled in multiple occasions.
Nice job!
Very interesting narrative. It really had catch me. It reminds thoose books you had to follow to a specific page depending on your choices. The idea is very simple, yet well executed. I think the font was a bad choice, though. I like specially how you were able to draw scenaries and characters with only white dots.
Cute game! I for one welcome our new Fronk overlords.
