Very fun games ! The graphism remind me of Tech Tree Games, it works really well with the gameplay. Nice game !

chaoseiro 2022-04-05 07:25

The visuals and music are really good!

My main complaint is that the enemies were spawning really close to me. I somehow managed to survive a first wave, but wasn't able to get to an upgrade.

Great job overall!

proxy-games 2022-04-05 07:28

Hello! I am loving the general vibe of this game-the graphics are simplistic, but they have a nice, deliberate polish to them, and the soundtrack is very nice. The gameplay was a little rough for me, though. I did see your comment saying that there are inconsistent effects at low volume (I am at 20 out of 100-turning it up any louder would cause my headphones to blast it at uncomfortable levels). I'm not sure if bullets are dictated by music volume, or beats in the music, but I did have issues with very few bullets spawning. It got to where most enemies were hitting me since I was firing so few bullets.

Other than the issues with not being able to defend myself, the gameplay and controls worked fine and were functional, so I don't think I can bash it too hard.

Overall, it's a very nice and stylish game!

reronin 2022-04-05 07:33

Wow that was a trip! Loved the music and how the game was completely synchronised with it. Almost died a few times (I think) but managed to complete the levels juuuust before my health ran out, so I'd call it perfectly balanced.

And such an emotional ending! At least... emotional for a circle.

Also: The game is marked as unfinished right now, so I can't rate. Is there any reason for this?

blue-pin-studio 2022-04-05 07:37

@fruit-du-dragbane @chaoseiro @proxy-games @reronin Thanks so much! By the way, if you can't rate it please refresh in a bit. I'm trying to fix that. I somehow managed to set it to unfinished and i can't set it back to Jam :((

hajpappan 2022-04-05 07:44

Very cool game, the visuals and music are both great, and the sync between them is really neat. I do think that enemies spawn a little bit too close to the player, and I did experience issues when played on low volume (as you mentionted). But great job!

henrik-ganard 2022-04-05 07:45

Great game. I really enjoyed that the beats of the music where the shooting mechanic. I had two problems with the game. First of I got irritated when engaged in a firefight, maving away just to have an enemy spawn in just behind me. The second thing is maybe more of a bug, I could not die. Anyway, I really Liked your game.

blue-pin-studio 2022-04-05 07:49

@hajpappan Thanks! Yeah, since the music makes the game function, when its too quiet some parts don't fire correctly.

@henrik-ganard The player character has a lot of health, you're meant to withstand a lot of enemy damage. :) Just lots of death and destruction! Thanks for playing :)

henrik-ganard 2022-04-05 07:55

Thanks for making the game =)

seng 2022-04-05 08:29

Nice game. I like the visuals and the music. But I have to agree with other comments about enemies spawning to close to the player. Other than that good game. Keep it up!

arscene 2022-04-05 09:21

The music really creates a great mood. I love the movements of the squares, it is really smooth!

I would say that I expected to die faster. It takes quite some hits before dying. Great job!

anchorlight 2022-04-05 13:24

This was great! Excellent presentation, and syncing all of the timing to the music was a neat touch. I thought the background was decent enough and tracking the player was cool, but then the upgrade animation started... wonderful.

I didn't mind the spawning system too much since you have enough health to get past it, but I think the game would be better off if you had an ability bound to left-click that cools down after use-- something like a piercing gun, or a radial knockback on enemies.

The web browser version didn't work for me at all sadly, some kind of bug was happening where enemies would never trigger (or a single enemy would) and the music fell out of sync after some time.

It's a shame you couldn't get the upload issue worked out, but you might be able to talk to Mike directly about getting that worked out if you made Jam submission time and that bug stopped you from participating.

PSA to Linux players: Make sure both chrome_crashpad_handler and QUADATORUM have execute permission, then start up ./QUADATORUM from the terminal. :)

bahska 2022-04-05 14:50

I just wanna say thx to everyone saying nice things about my music! I'm usually a song release man so this was my first go at game music :)

anchorlight 2022-04-05 18:45

@bahska Congrats on the strong debut!

sacredyouma 2022-04-07 03:05

Nice game! The graphic is smooth, and the music suites the atmosphere. However, I think that the amount of enemy spawning and the world shrinking doesn't balance out, therefore I often felt that the game doesn't really challenging. Some of the suggestions are decreasing the amount of shield and further increases the amount of enemy spawning. Other than that, excellent work!

dae-udain 2022-04-07 04:35

Nice and simple game. I think the visual aesthetics and soundtrack complemented the game very well. I do wish it had a bit more progress indicators (such as how long until the next upgrade, or how much health you have) but I did like that there were upgrades to change up the gameplay. Overall, I enjoyed this one.

blue-pin-studio 2022-04-07 05:31

@sacredyouma Thanks for playing! Yeah it was generally balanced to ensure most people who want to will get to the end.

@dae-udain Thanks for the kind words! There actually is a health indicator, the circle in the middle of your character shrinks according to your remaining health. The health pool is very generous in order for more people to reach the end :)

marvalgames 2022-04-07 08:10

Well done. simple graphics became stylish with the music and effects. Liked the shooting mechanics. Danced through this game. :)

devzhrssh 2022-04-07 08:13

Very nice and simple game! I wish there are more varieties of the enemies tho. Anyways, I really enjoyed it!

minusc 2022-04-07 08:22

Great job ! Love how the music fits perfectly with everything. Graphics are great too, everything fit great together. Took me while to notice the arena was getting smaller and smaller ! I liked the ending too, I was expecting something darker at first xD

blue-pin-studio 2022-04-07 08:22

@marvalgames Thanks! Dance the night away :)

@devzhrssh Thanks a lot! Yeah we only had time for three enemy types. Lots of room for improvement :D

tombuston 2022-04-07 08:51

This is really cool! The player design is very elegant, with the health bar represented in the center. Animations and shooting on the music beat was great too, it set a great mood. I think each round is a bit too long as it is (you wait a long time before the first upgrade) and enemies can sometimes spawn very close to you, but otherwise this was a fun arcade game!

substain 2022-04-07 09:32

Nice entry :) I like the use of the background, and the music (+shoot synch) was cool too :)

jirushi 2022-04-07 20:36

Game looks sweet, but IDK, feels like stuff should jump to the beat or something IDK. The music is dope IDK, like when enemies appear, IDK, I like that. Gameplay, I didn't get any upgrades IDK, was in browser so IDK.

yaen 2022-04-08 01:53

So I think this game didn't really work for me I don't know... I played in the Firefox browser with hardware acceleration as recommended but somehow enemies couldn't hurt me, I only shot at really irregular intervals, kinda rarely and also there was just nothing going on for long stretches of time.

I'm sure the game can be a lot of fun if it all works out but for me it was strange.

anchorlight 2022-04-08 02:41

@Yaen I played in Firefox as well and found that enemies didn't spawn at all. Give the client version a try, it seems to be a lot more stable that way.

fulminderek 2022-04-09 02:34

Incredibly well-put together game. With nothing more than a little polish and some more levels, I could easily see this being a full release.

I'm not normally a fan of rhythm games since they try to get you to stick to the beat, but having the bass dictate your shots being fired was a pleasant spin on that that I very much enjoyed.

Also the song was sick as hell, if nothing else, you should consider listing it on Spotify or something!

joshh 2022-04-09 03:17

Fun game! I really like how the health meter is integrated into the character design.

peachtreeoath 2022-04-09 03:36

Nice! We had similar concepts in having gameplay that sync'd to the beat. This isn't something I've seen before in a topdown shooter. The art/music/gameplay really lined up quite well.

I couldn't help but be inspired by the gameplay especially once I saw the upgrades. Since you're lucky to have a music artist on the team, it would be really neat if a full version tied different weapons to different music instruments/tracks. So if you pick up missiles, now missiles are firing to the bass or something.

But I digress. For the gameplay I mostly did a gigantic circle strafe. I'm sorta glad the HP bar was forgiving, I definitely ran into a lot of enemies when they spawned right next to me lol. I thought it was really neat that the arena size shrunk and it became VERY apparently once you were near the end of the game.

The ending was a very nice touch honestly. It plays right into the shrinking arena by making you feel like you're screwed but having someone drop down to save you. It worked better emotionally than I expected.

A very cool concept that shows what a beat sync'd game can do. I could see this going further with more work, great job!

dingledorf 2022-04-09 04:21

Great game! I love games that incorporate music into the gameplay, and the music for this game was fantastic! The ending cutscene and climax were excellent too. The gameplay itself was smooth, and the extra visual effects (e.g. the background) were really cool. Nice work!

szkocka 2022-04-09 12:25

Nice UI design, audio is top notch. I never thought I will enjoy game about circle shooting squares :D

emaigualmc2-art 2022-04-09 18:32

I played the web version, I think it takes too long to start between the home screen and the tutorial that cannot be skipped there is too much time. I played it for a while and I didn't notice that the difficulty increased even it seemed quite easy and slow, the enemies take time to come out and one can never really die no matter how many enemies hit you. Of course that balance is the most difficult thing to achieve but I think that polishing that more and making the gameplay more fluid can be more fun xD. The art is simple but I like the particle effects, it would be great if as we go along we can move the particles in the background it would be a nice detail to add, and it would be great if they could polish the interface more. I think the music is fine but it doesn't go with the slow rhythm of the gameplay, it's more frenetic and fast. Maybe it is a question of the web version but I noticed a bit of lag in the shots, I did not feel that it will fire immediately after a click. In general it is very good, thanks for your entry!!

blue-pin-studio 2022-04-09 19:43

@fulminderek Thanks a lot! So kind :)

@joshh Thanks a lot, im glad you noticed. This game is full of tiny things that will likely go unnoticed by most players.

@peachtreeoath Wow thanks! I really enjoyed your game and i thought it was super well made, so it means a lot coming from such a good designer.

blue-pin-studio 2022-04-09 19:45

@dingledorf Thanks! Im glad at least a few people managed to see the ending cutscene, i was starting to think it was wasted effort haha

@szkocka Thanks! It was my first time doing art for a game, wanted to keep it fairly minimalistic

@emaigualmc2-art All very good feedback! Thanks :D By the way, the game is entirely synced to music, the enemy spawn rate and your fire rate. You cannot shoot with the mouse buttons. Maybe you had your music volume too low causing rate issues. Afterall, its based on overall audio levels :P I wish i could've made a system to compensate for low system sound, but didnt have enough time

ddrkirbyisq 2022-04-10 15:16

Kind of interesting. The concept of reacting to the music amplitude is cool in concept, but with such a repetitive music loop I found myself wondering whether that implementation was really necessary as opposed to simply synchronizing to the beat. Regardless, the music loop makes this game much more bearable, I can't imagine playing without it going on.

Without any indicator of remaining health, I had a hard time figuring out whether I was ever in any danger or whether there was actually a difference between shooting vs ramming the enemies (I assume there is). Interesting, the game psychologically felt a bit boring when the arena was too large (free to just move in big circles), and it felt restricting when the arena was too small (nothing really happens, and there's only a few spots for enemies to warp in). There was a sweet spot in the middle when the gameplay felt just right.

One last note, your default html5 canvas size is huge! Please note that a significant portion of the population is running at 1366x768 or 1280x720 desktop resolutions ([reference](https://gs.statcounter.com/screen-resolution-stats/desktop/worldwide)) and your canvas size of 1440x810 will not fit on their screens. (I'm running at 1280x1024, for reference)

borabee 2022-04-10 16:52

Really loved this game! The story, the graphics and the rhythmic shooting are all very satisfying and the ending is just :chefskiss: The diminishing world size is very fitting with the theme, however I felt the difficulty level was a bit backwards, as the small world seemed to make it easier to shoot the enemies. Also, the game felt pretty easy overall, since there was no indication that I ever took any actual damage from the enemies. I liked it though, because I'm usually terrible at this types of games, so the short, easy and story-centered experience really catered to my tastes! haha

etherion 2022-04-10 18:58

Probably the best game I've played so far this jam. Loved the audio, and the synchronization with the character. Graphics conveyed exactly what it needed to (and I really enjoyed the unique way of displaying remaining health). Controls felt good, and the cutscene at the end was really cute.

tested 2022-04-11 01:59

cool concept

quackbehavior 2022-04-13 07:00

Well made! Visual is nice, gameplay feels good. Ending was cool.

Some my thoughts: - No way see how many HP I have(actually I'm not sure if HP exists at all, I passed game in first attempt) - Enemies sometimes spawn too close - When I was get first upgrade and wasted too much time choosing what is better damage or shield the game like: "You get nothing! Good day, Sir!"

Thank you for this game!

quackbehavior 2022-04-13 07:04

and music is good for sure

vixenmink 2022-04-13 17:41

Very nice and solid entry for this year's theme.

+ The inevitability made me laugh. I forgot what was told to me in the beginning then freaked out "Oh no the square!" + The graphics are very nice + Music with bullets - Very nice.

- The background could be a few shades dimmer so the circling rectangles don't distract too much from piloting the circle but overall is not too bad.

I am a huge fan of Geometry Wars and I would always try to time my bullets to the music. The fact that you linked it for me plus had music changes depending on what wave is happening really did it for me.

Great job

hori 2022-04-13 22:44

Really cool and well made rhytm game! Other creator suggested to play it - and it totally worth it! Thank you very much!

There were some things, that seemed unfair for me as a player (such as squares-enemies) that appeared right in front of me and, probably, their hitboxes, because in combo it made evading and shooting much harder. But other than that, really good job!
