LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

upgrades at a price by Nicso 2018-12-14T18:40:53Z

Nice pixel art and visual effects! It's impressive how you made a game with character progression all alone in such a short amount of time.

Checkpoint placement is pretty good, thank you for that!

At the same time, I must say that this didn't really feel all that much like a metroidvania since I only ever got one fairly standard new ability: the double jump. And when I got the double jump, there wasn't even a notable trade-off so it felt kind of off with the theme.

Generally the sacrifices felt more like trade-offs than like sacrifices. You could say, you sacrifice easier combat for an additional heart but that seems like a stretch, haha.

It was still very enjoyable to play and I had fun exploring. I liked how the level changed when the traps were added. Made backtracking way more fun due to the added challenge. Good work!

YOU ARE FIRED! by urbanhelsing 2018-12-14T02:37:34Z

Haha that was hilarious! The weird dialogue and the funny sounds when firing someone really elevated the game feel of this one!

I also accidentally fired the wrong person a lot. I think that if you simply highlighted the person I'm about to fire, that issue would not be so big.

I sometimes also hit space reflexively right after placing someone at a desk, firing them immediately as a result. I'm not quite sure why I had this reflex but it may be better if there was a dedicated place-at-desk-button so I don't accidentally fire people.

Oh and I absolutely loved the music!

YOU ARE FIRED! by urbanhelsing 2018-12-14T16:24:04Z

@dk5000p good to know it's not just me haha

Colors of Your World by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-12-20T23:12:05Z

This is a beautiful game and I had a lot of fun playing it! The music was really good too. I felt that the theme wasn't all that strong mechanically since only a visual change occurs with each sacrifice. Gameplay felt top notch though and the graphics are really nicely drawn and animated.

It got surprisingly hard but it felt like a good challenge all the way through. I appreciate that you allow space for jumping (In my country, y and z are swapped on the keyboard so it's frustrating when you can only jump with z.) but I think that it would be even better if you allowed jumping with the up arrow (especially since the up arrow is currently not in use)

It was a pretty cool moment when I turned into a bird in the end :)

Golem by yazara 2018-12-05T00:16:46Z

Was pretty fun, playing with Jonas today and comparing our solutions to the puzzles. I agree on the rotation blocks. The arrows should not rotate with the block orientation. There should be a delete all blocks button.

I played before you added objectives and with the objectives the game is like 100x as fun! :D

I quite like the visual style. Pretty charming to look at.

The wall sensor is a bit annoying since you can not change the relative direction of the green and red outputs.

Looking forward to what else you'll do with this concept!

False God by kothead 2018-12-14T03:27:14Z

I quite liked the harsh, relentless audiovisual style you have going here.

Controls were a bit weird, like juggling all these slow bodyparts individually was kind of hard to pull off. I didn't really know how well I was doing at any time. the green bar filled up a bit at some point but I didn't get why. The yellow bar never filled up and I didn't understand that either haha.

Oh and the hands with blood at the bottome... Well I don't know what they're for either :D

The mood was pretty cool nontheless, even though it was hard to understand.

Kill chickens for better art! by loveapplegames 2018-12-14T22:46:30Z

Wow that was surprisingly fun! Most levels didn't really pose a challenge, yet I still enjoyed just making patterns and seeing everything come together. I had trouble getting back to the menu at first too (when you're done it doesn't show the hotkey anymore so you don't know what it is and M is not really a typical menu-key).

The music gave it an interesting mood. Felt pretty cool to me.

I feel like the submission is just losely connected to the theme and the chicken-thing felt kind of tacked-on but that's fine, building patterns was still super fun and relaxing!

Hell Well by Incredible Ape 2018-12-14T00:57:06Z

This game looks pretty good! I liked the effect animation when you land on something. Gives it a lot of impact! Sometimes you can get stuck. I wish I could jump with the up-arrow (controlling with one hand is way easier to coordinate than having to use the other hand to jump.

I liked how the colours changed each time I collected a gem. Did the colours signify the ability I currently have? If so, I didn't notice while playing. I just remember that I kept thinking "I wish I had a visual way of telling which ability I currently have.

Theme felt a bit weak as it didn't feel like sacrifices and more like exchanges. That's ok though, it's an interesting mechanic!

Look and feel remind me a lot of downwell. If that's what you were going for that's a job well done!

The Cave God by pranjalbisht 2018-12-14T01:42:31Z

That was quite fun even though the gameplay wasn't all that engaging. The funny writing and the cute and polished sprite art made up for that! I had fun trying out the various objects and reading the god's reaction to them. I was quite surprised that he didn't appreciate the goat, though it kind of makes sense if you think about it haha. Some nice sound design would sure improve the game a lot.

Agent of Sacrifice by relampmarquin 2018-12-05T02:52:34Z

Hey, that was pretty cool! I found one (pretty straightforward and stabby) way to do the deed. I wish the game involved a little less waiting and an option to walk more quickly or run because of the setback right to the beginning once you get spotted. I also ran into an issue the first time when I didn't go to the elevator and I had no way to turn off the power again. The thing is that the first time I thought I must not get into the light cone because that's usually bad for you in stealth games. That's why I stayed in the back and basically softlocked myself, having to reload the page.

I wish I was given a reason for killing her. Some backstory about why I'm doing the things I'm doing, you know?

Other than that it was a pretty exciting time, trying to figure out how to use the environment to my advantage to get people to move to certain places and so on. I also liked the unnerving soundtrack and creepy art style of the characters. The animations looked pretty good, especially the walking cycles. Good job, overall!

Path of (dis)abilities by yuriaicruz 2018-12-21T03:08:25Z

The idea seemed pretty interesting to me and your thumbnail looked promising. However, I had some issues with how this game was balanced. Overall it felt like there wasn't a lot of strategy involved. I basically only ever did the thing that was obviously the best to do in each situation. The timer wasn't an issue either because it was super lenient. Because you could always just buy back abilities at the next store (and there was never a shortage of currency) the sacrifices didn't really feel like they mattered all that much. The abilities didn't feel distinct from each other. Mechanically they were all the same which made it less strategic as well. Since I had no way of knowing which abilities were required (as secondary abilities) in each level, I also felt like I couldn't really plan ahead and relied on random luck to get through to the next resting place. When slotting an ability, all the other abilities changed their position. That felt irritating and I wish that they all just had their fixed slots which are emptied once the ability is slotted or sacrificed.

I actually liked your music. Sounds quite pleasant to me :)

I hope my feedback makes sense to you and doesn't sound too harsh. Good luck!

Sacrificio Inc. by Reality Blind 2018-12-21T02:49:31Z

Great presentation, animations, sprites, colour scheme, audio were all really nicely polished. Controls felt unresponsive due to the lack of real time feedback and because I had to click multiple times to move something further than one block. Levels got a bit repetitive quickly and I didn't really feel challenged most of the time. I think that I "got it" pretty early on and then the game didn't add anything new. There were some strange flickering issues on texts. I'm not sure why. I played it on a windows 10 PC.

Your idea to change the timer to a move counter sounds like a good plan! The timer did nothing for me, personally ^^ Optimizing move count would be an interesting challenge though.

Good luck with further development!

Sense Shift by mambojambo 2018-12-14T00:45:10Z

Very solid entry! The idea of having to rely on spatial audio and switching back and forth was really nice. For a while I didn't understand the blue platforms and I figured out the order by trial and error at first. I finally understood it at the very end though. I liked the music :)

I think that if this works with controller input, you could even add haptic feedback to the mix which could be very interesting in my opinion.

Ropasquib by Groggi 2018-12-14T03:17:47Z

Wonderful visual design! The game does benefit from the sacrificial aspect a lot. It actually made it pretty hard. I couldn't beat the AI consistently, to be honest haha. Sounds were also very well made. Good job!

Save the Town! by Sam Reid 2018-12-04T23:32:39Z

I love your sound design, especially Ding, ding. We need more Ding Ding in games and in this world in general. Was pretty cute. The framerate dies when you shoot too much or when a wave spawns. It was still fun though. My favourite part: Selecting units. You know why ;)

CROM by Fluffy_Kaeloky 2018-12-14T00:26:53Z

I like the way this game looks for sure! The 3D models blend in perfectly with the 2d art which makes everything look really nice and still gives you all the 3D advantages. Love it!

I'm not sure how I feel about having fewer mechanics the further the game progresses. Combat basically gets less interesting over time. I liked the idea of the boss being the dog at the end.

I'm not sure about this but does the dog get more difficult, the more you hurt it before? At first I tried to do a no dog-hurting run, but I found it too hard. Then, with some dog hurting, I found the dog too hard. Wish the dog had a health bar in the end.

I'm really impressed by how far you got with this game in such a limited time!

Fight For Your Light by Raivk 2018-12-05T00:06:32Z

Hey, cool game! Looks really pretty and well polished. Getting to this level of graphical quality in a game jam is quite an achievement. I especially liked all the VFX.

I felt pretty weak though which is why I stopped playing. My damage felt too low, my character too slow and the enemies too hard to hit and too strong, especially for the beginning.

I like the concept of the rune rotation combat mechanic. Lots of potential there. I wish I could have unlocked the spells more quickly so I could experience what you did with this mechanic.

I feel like there's no reason for a smart camera here. Simple, direct 3rd-person camera control without any blending or automatic adjustments would have done the trick just fine. Right now it was really difficult to aim which reduced my enjoyment of the gameplay.

Overall good job, especially on the audiovisual side. The rotating combat mechanic should be explored more.

Sacritech by SandLantern 2018-12-14T01:21:26Z

You've got some great aesthetics in this game. The colours and shapes go well together and it feels like a well designed art style. Sounds were satisfying too and I especially liked the laser sound. I actually liked the music, too! It had many levels, maybe even too many for its own good. Some of them felt a bit pointless, introducing no new mechanics and not really having anything particularily challenging or unique about them. I too think that movement direction should not be based on mouse position. The amount of mental gymnastics I have to do just to know what button to press in order to move in the right direction was so much that I ended up only using the up arrow. This could be way more pleasant if the up arrow alway just pushed me up, down always pushed me down and so on... I ultimately gave up on the solar system level because it was so big and empty with very few goals and no clear sense of direction. I felt lost and eventually drifted off into endless empty space without a way back home until I lost my last remaining energy... That sounded kind of sad :(

Reactor Overdrive by JUSTCAMH 2018-12-14T11:48:47Z

It's impressive that you managed to pull this off alone! There's an upgrade system, different enemy types, various strategies, visual effects... Cool stuff!

I'm not sure I quite understood all the mechanics. I also felt a bit uneasy when going into the menu since the game was still going on and I couldn't see most of it. This may be better if the menu was slightly transparent...?

The guns felt a bit frustrating to me since they always seemed to shoot everywhere except where my cursor was or where I wanted them to shoot :D Maybe I'm missing some crucial aspect of the combat mechanics to fully understand how they work.

The music was pretty strange. Sounded a bit like music generated by a computer.

Reactor Overdrive by JUSTCAMH 2018-12-14T12:43:26Z

Oh, that makes more sense now haha. Yeah things like that completely went over my head when playing :)

Props for making the music with Bosca Ceoil though! When I tried it, I thought that it was a neat little tool but hard to use for more serious projects. I'm using FL Studio myself.

Cheers!

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-13T23:53:45Z

Man that was great fun! My favourite entry so far, I think. Feels pretty complete and has lots of levels. Had a good length for the content it gave me. Most levels felt pretty distinct even though there weren't so many new mechanics.

Sometimes I found the timing to be a bit tricky for a puzzle game, but maybe that was just me not finding the intended solution and cheesing it in an overly complicated way, I'm not sure haha.

Watching by kristinamay 2018-12-14T02:07:19Z

I don't usually like to play text adventures, but this was quite fun - especially due to the visual effects, font changes, audio (I think there could have been some more audio but what was there was good) and small text bites.

It was quite fun to read the game commenting on my choices (though my choices obviously didn't matter much)

The scene in Jakes house was delightfully uncomfortable. I find it interesting how I got fewer and fewer choices towards the end. Almost like I was remote controlled. That went along with the narrative quite well!

Meta Magic by Inkie Inc 2018-12-07T02:42:58Z

The low res effect was a pretty interesting form of punishment. When I first played the game (hadn't read the description) I was confused by it and thought something had broken though haha.

I feel like the controls could be a bit more intuitive - or maybe I was just overwhelmed by the large amount of spells, all with their own buttons. Something like that can work but only if you learn it over the course of a longer game, piece by piece.

I can also confirm that the screenshot @spacemonkey posted is 100% legitimate and definitely not edited. Impressive score, I must say!

Jamming Dilemma by Rapyo 2018-12-14T14:45:25Z

Haha, the whole game is a meta-game, love it! Lots of cool ideas that you have to throw away here but as they say, you have to kill your darlings. Good job!

Welcome to the North Pole! by fre 2018-12-14T02:55:56Z

Aww that was so cute! I loved the faces on the snowballs and snowmen. The music was adorable too. Really nice mood on this one. It was very fun to play around with the snow, growing and splitting both felt satisfying, building specific snowmen was an interesting challenge. All in all, great submission!

The gameplay reminded me of loco roco by the way.

One way to give it even more character would be to give the snowballs some cute voices :D

A Dark Forest by Kyrnix 2018-12-05T02:21:49Z

I don't think I really understood this game. All I did (after two failed attempts of running to the side and into everlasting darkness) was holding W, which worked fine enough until a text informed me that I sacrificed my fuel. I kept holding w until it told me that I had nothing to sacrifice... Not really sure how the game is supposed to be played. The atmosphere with the torch light against the purple VFX of the entity was quite nice though.

A Man and a Dog by YYZ 2018-12-14T00:10:50Z

Very pretty game. I had lots of fun exploring. Nice environment design, too. The mood was spot on! Audio was great (don't know why I can't rate audio for this submission but I would've given it a good rating here).

Trying to forcibly escape the bear trap resulted in an ending that didn't fit the game's style. Felt kind of slapstick but in an unfitting way. I'm a bit unsure how to feel about the third ending. It's a bit strange that for the best outcome there are no additional sacrifices to be made. In the end it just depends on picking up a weapon, so it feels like it clashes with the narrative theme a bit.

LD44 — Your life is currency

key, knife, flower. by LucasMolina 2019-05-20T21:25:03Z

Fascinating entry! I like that you went for something unconventional with this series of micro-interactions where the game becomes a bit of a puzzle, trying to figure out how to interact with each screen presented to you. It's clear to me that there's a deeper meaning to every screen but it wasn't clear enough for me to "get it". That's unfortunate because I'm quite intruiged by it and I think you have something interesting to say. Nonetheless I enjoyed my time with this game and hope you can get across the 20 ratings-mark soon.

Carl Currency - Expert Exchanger by yazara 2019-05-02T19:14:12Z

Brilliant little thing, this game :)

The graphics are super charming and do exactly what they need to do. The gameplay was quite tricky to figure out in the beginning but at some point you can calculate everything. It's great though, because you have to come up with the correct maths equations yourself which makes the challenge in this puzzle quite creative!

It'd make more sense gameplay-wise if there weren't as many "useless" exchanges that can't tell you anything new. It could be interesting to have the NPCs giving you multiple different currencies in the late game, as that would add another dimension to the challenge. It's a little strange that they're angry if I give them too much. They should be glad haha! I'm a bit sad that there's no audio.

Blood Chest by PeachTreeOath 2019-05-03T19:48:28Z

Haha that was a pretty fun game and I enjoyed the "combat" mechanic as it felt quite different from other games. It was only a bit frustrating when there were too many enemies around and the tongue would just collide with everyone and it was almost impossible to get a good throw. Resetting the player back to wave 1 after losing is pretty mean. I would have prefered if it just gave you back a bit of your treasure and let you retry the wave you failed on.

LAZERBOI by SteveCrse 2019-05-04T11:54:56Z

Enjoyed this one a lot once I got the hang of it. I tried to "get" it for a long time by just playing the game but I had to give up and go to the LD page in order to understand what I was supposed to do. Some final win condition would have been nice. I'd also have liked some more UI letting me know how much a body will let me upgrade the mechanics and how much I already gained from the respective coffins.

Other than that, big props for the visual fidelity, the city models, vfx and post fx. Looks amazing, especially for a game jam game!

Insert Coin by gil4 2019-05-20T20:47:08Z

This was one of my favourites from this LD so far! I can tell a lot of effort and passion went into this little project. The atmosphere is dense, the graphics look really nice and different, the music is moody and helps developing this thoughtful, melancholic atmosphere. I also really like that I had some choices at the end of each stage even though they may not have mattered all that much in terms of my progression through the game. The little letter at the end was a nice touch too. Overall it really feels like a complete game more than just a game jam game and that's super impressive.

Value of Life by pokepetter 2019-05-03T20:25:30Z

This is super pretty, I like your art style and your choice of colours a lot. I can't really say that I understood your narrative but it was a beautiful experience still. It's quite impressive that you wrote it all in python, seemingly without an engine. Respect!

Life is precious by freso 2019-05-02T20:28:05Z

Wow, that's a pretty tough game! I couldn't beat it after several tries but I generally enjoyed my time playing it. In no small part due to the kickass soundtrack! Unfortunately the rest of the sound design didn't do it for me. I don't get the appeal of loud, crunchy 8-bit sounds, especially if the game doesn't otherwise have an 8-bit aesthetic. It's just hard to listen to and decreases any kind of mood the game might otherwise have had.

The camera was quite tough to work with for me since it moved around so erratically with my aim. A smoother blend would have been cool, I think.

Generation: Why?! by LeFayGames 2019-05-03T20:03:37Z

I love the graphic style and you came up with a pretty cool narrative twist on the theme. The game itself does feel a bit clunky however and the game concept doesn't tie in with the theme super well. It's essentially a standard collecting-platformer with a narrative and cool art attached to it. That's totally ok, just not super unique. The controls and physics felt a off though since it was very easy to get stuck on the sides of platforms. The moving platforms can also be a problem when trying to jump off of them. These two things made me lose several times so that I could never manage to make it to the end.

Cool submission and great art nonetheless!

Seaway by Constantin 2019-05-04T10:43:40Z

Beautiful game! I loved the art, feel, simple controls, sound design... It's all really well made!

I'm not sure if there's an end goal to the game... I wish it didn't reset you to 0 after death (bit too punishing and demotivating). And finally, it's missing bullet trail feedback once my bullet speed exceeds a certain value. Other than those things I absolutely adore this game and I sure had a great time playing!

Zap Signal by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2019-05-04T15:38:06Z

As cool as the premise to this game sounds, I couldn't get past the calibration stage because it didn't get any input from my mic (even though I enabled mic input in firefox and my mic itself works). Really sad, I wish this worked for me!

Zap Signal by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2019-05-05T10:09:35Z

Hey, worked in chrome! Thanks! Was pretty fun yelling at my computer screen :D

I Burn by mamoniem 2019-05-01T22:31:58Z

Only saw the thumbnail and was really surprised when there was a face on the candle after opening the build. I was surprised again, to note that none of the controls that I tried worked until I "got it". It was kind of shocking and sad to see that face melt. Overall it fits the theme very well and was executed quite well too. It has no interactive element. It's not a game. But who cares if it's a game or not? It wasn't fun but it made me feel and that's what matters. Fascinating work!

My only real critique would be that the flame looks way too detailed for a candle flame. It looks more like a campfire-sized flame. All this detail kind of distracts from what's important here too so if I'd change one thing about this, it'd be that.

Heart of the Grove by johnnydalvi 2019-05-05T09:04:42Z

I like what you did with the theme! Though with an environmentalist theme like this, it's kind of hard to take that you're basically doomed to lose sooner or later - and in the real world, nature can't even fight back!

Quite original mechanics in this game too. It's a pretty different take on the tower defense genre. Only thing I wish for is some more variety as it does get pretty repetitive for its playtime. But it's a game jam so what you got done is already really impressive!

I liked the look of the game but I'm really glad that you had those graphics options in there because even though I have a fairly powerful machine, it lagged like hell with the standard settings. Even with low settings it was still a bit sluggish but at least playable.

Teller Me More by hollowspecter 2019-05-20T21:12:27Z

That was a lot more fun than I expected it to be! The characters all had a unique personality to them and the dialogue was quite funny. Though, in the beginning it was a bit hard to focus on any one thing and I failed miserably, not getting that I had to throw money into the hole and throwing all of it onto the floor (though the game would also give me the tip at the end not to throw it on the floor even if I hadn't). Anyway, fun game, very innovative, wish it had some sort of in-game tutorial rather than just a text file on the main menu.

Lifelust by MateusBoga 2019-05-20T20:04:33Z

Really cool game, this one! I love your colour choices, and the pixel art that goes along with them. The music was totally kickass! I wish that there was a bit more of a tactical element to the combat system. Right now it just feels like mindless button mashing and getting hit or not mostly seems to come down to luck.

Leap by Adam Elaoud 2019-05-04T09:58:30Z

Fun game, pretty hard! I wish that rounds would last longer and let me use the health-sacrifice mechanic more often. So basically, there should be more hearts! Maybe a flag could also give you a heart if you're at 1 heart. OR you could have independent heart pickups. That way, upgrades would be more frequent and flags would be useful more often. The way it is right now, I only ever get 1 upgrade at max per run.

I like the graphics by the way, game looks pretty cool!

EXO by Firesplash Entertainment 2019-05-11T12:59:15Z

This is a quite interesting take on the tower defense genre. I don't think that I've seen a tower defense game in first person view where you have to defend YOURSELF before. The concept worked remarkably well too and I spent quite some time playing before finally being too outnumbered. Gotta watch out for that positive feedback loop which makes you less able to improve towers after being hit previously. Some catch up mechanic would be cool but I'm not exactly sure how I'd do it... In the audiovisual department it's a bit lacking in my opinion. Some things just have no sounds, the monster noises are overly loud and not rooted in the world and the ambient background sounds didn't really suit the theme and setting that well I think. The graphics could have been improved a lot by just choorsing a more appealing colour scheme in my opinion. I find it very impressive how you managed to get multiple animated 3D characters into a Ludum Dare game though, hats off!

Board Life by Serious07 2019-05-04T15:32:59Z

Very cool entry! The game design is quite original and different. Unfortunately I managed to get stuck with my dice leaning onto each other and the game couldn't go on. I'm not sure if having those "realistic" dice is really necessary, since a simple RNG would have done it. Pretty cool and fun game regardless! Lots of cool ideas to be found here. The Circle by DUandI 2019-05-02T19:44:13Z

Cool take on the theme and awesome graphic design! It was a bit weird at times when I didn't get any feedback on negative consequences of my actions that "went wrong". Like, ok, it didn't go too well but what exactly happened if I gave the diabetic his soda? Did he die on the spot? :D

Coin Puzzles by Mika la Grand 2019-05-05T00:31:58Z

Fun game, frustrating "End"-level, agonizing music :D

I like how you ran with this idea, it turned out really well and you've got some pretty interesting puzzles in there. Yeah, just the non-extra end-level took me WAY too many tries lol

Precious is Life by -banzi 2019-05-03T19:36:31Z

Beautiful creature art here, loved those drawings! The twist at the end was super cute, nice payoff. It's cool that you even managed to get in a world map into a game jam game.

Audio and some more feedback in general would have been really nice and would have elevated the game to the next level, I think. I wish there was some more strategy involved in using the 3 different creatures - they all felt a bit too similar in my opinion.

They ran out of mana by Sergi Montaner 2019-05-01T22:10:54Z

This was a lot of fun! Played many rounds and still wanted more :) The graphics were a mixed bag: I really liked those cartoony sprites but the graphic design work on both the fonts as well as the kind of ugly gradients could be better in my opinion. That didn't really matter though as I cared more about the fun game loop. Choosing which cards to play in which order was really fun and made all the difference. I lost some fights but generally it was a pretty easy game to win against the "AI". The fact that you made the AI so predictable was actually kind of cool though as it turned it into more of a puzzle game. It'd be super interesting to play this game against a real human being. I'd love to have a local multiplayer mode. Anyway, great submission! I enjoyed it a lot :)

Over by alixmi 2019-05-02T20:08:25Z

Such a beautiful submission! You've done a fantastic job with the mood here. I wish there was some audio feedback for gameplay events such as collecting soulds, wandering into the void, ending the game, footsteps. Would have made the mood and atmosphere even stronger in my opinion. There's a lot of potential here. This game with more levels and some sort of story progression would be pretty amazing :) But it's cool as it is too!

SHROUD (Synthetic Human, Radiation OUtput Determined) by thevinter 2019-05-05T09:56:57Z

It was fun exploring the wasteland and finding items here and there. The mood was quite nice in this one and I felt like I was always in danger. However I beat the whole game and never had to sell any body parts. It was simply never clear why I should even give my body parts to the robots as they just told me something like "hey, I want your kidney, sell it to me?" without offering anything that I'd need in return. The combat had some weirdness to it since the game depends on using the mouse to use items and the combat requires me to put both hands on the keyboard. I think you could have gotten the same shooting mechanics done with just the mouse buttons. As others have said this is a very ambitious project for a game jam so I'm impressed that you got so far with it and made it feel like a fully fledged game.

Pew Pew Crew! by Jonas Tyroller 2019-05-03T20:27:32Z

@Biebras Thank you for your comment and thank you for playing! And don't worry, there's nothing after the victory scene. It's basically just a level with a bunch of harmless enemies to play around with.

Pew Pew Crew! by Jonas Tyroller 2019-05-04T23:42:33Z

@mika-la-grand That's awesome, gonna check it out right now! Which crew members you lose is random as far as I know, by the way.

Pew Pew Crew! by Jonas Tyroller 2019-05-05T08:28:00Z

@peachtreeoath Haha what the hell, that comic is amazing and kind of how I imagine this game from inside of the ship :D

Thank you for the kind words!

ORBid by Martynas 2019-05-01T21:32:34Z

Really nice game, man. I enjoyed playing and upgrading a lot until I died to the fast enemies that caught me off guard. Because I wanted to hop right back in, I hastily clicked the restart game button, not knowing that it would erase all my progress. That's such a shame and I think that such buttons should be placed elsewhere and with a warning since I don't think that most people want to ever wipe their progress. It was a really nice and satisfying game loop until then though!

I also liked the complementary colour scheme and in general you built a cool and interesting atmosphere with this game.

However, I think the 8-bit sound effects took away from that atmosphere quite a bit. It's as if the game audio is actively trying to remind me that I'm just playing a video game. I think 8 bit sounds mostly belong into 8 bit games to serve the aesthetic such games are going for. This game didn't give me 8 bit vibes though so the sounds didn't really work for me. The music was great though, loved that part of the audio!

Cat# by Omickron 2019-05-02T20:58:06Z

I came here because I absolutely adore your thumbnail key-art. That looks beautiful! I wish the entire game had gone for this style. Instead, it is unfortunately not unified enough and feels like your artists didn't really talk to each other.

Wish you guys could have added some more feedback since I was super confused by the game due to the lack of visual feedback or any sound effects (except for the quite nice BGM). I think the game would have been a lot more enjoyable and easier to understand if there were some particle effects, flashing materials, more UI, animations etc..

Xochipilli's Trade by Giezi 2019-05-11T13:25:14Z

What a nice looking game, I especially like the look of the outside area. I wish the inside had some more colours like that too. It was very pretty nontheless and had a great presentation. At first I tried to do it without sacrificing anyone but I had no chance. Then, after sacrificing half of my party and getting all the upgrades, the boss was a piece of cake haha. It really does matter a lot how many you sacrifice. I loved the sword slash sound, very satisfying. The platforming could have felt a bit nicer if you weren't stopped with every little step and the character would just climb over it automatically like in dead cells instead.

Danko by Pixel_Error 2019-05-04T14:13:19Z

Wow, what a great game! Pretty much loved every aspect, wish it was even longer with more enemy types etc. But it's already pretty damn good! I loved the atmosphere and setting along with those really nice pixel art graphics.

The Giving Thing by Jam373 2019-05-02T19:54:32Z

Wow, that was quite something! I'm not quite sure if I can agree with the message that I took away from this. At least, from my personal experience, helping people has so far been a very positive thing in my life. That's not to say that other experiences are invalid of course! Very interesting take on the theme for sure. Makes you think...

Bloodia by Sebastien Bourgeois 2019-05-02T20:39:27Z

Loved your graphics, you went for a very pleasing colour scheme here. Nice!

The theme is also strong in this one and that becomes clear very soon after starting the game.

I wish the movement speed was at least twice as fast, everything felt so sluggish, especially with the large level size and the constantly ticking timer of my life. I died to one of those mimics without knowing that they even existed in the first place. That felt so bad and I felt so cheated by the game that I stopped playing lol.

Escape from Hell by Becher 2019-05-04T12:59:28Z

Appealing art style, especially in the woods. The souls-system was pretty nice except that it was possible to get locked in, unable to progress due to having 0 souls early on. That way, I had to reload the page several times before I understood why this was even happening. The combat did feel a tad clunky because it always stops you when hitting, breaking the flow of movement a bit.

LD45 — Start with nothing

World Collector by Joe Williamson 2019-10-16T01:20:41Z

Amazing submission! Really enjoyed the free-form puzzling emerging from the world creation system and simple button / door rules. Once I got the four-way, everything was a bit too obvious though. That one was just a god-tile that removed a lot of the puzzly aspect of the game towards the end. Just a minor nitpick though since until then there were already quite a few interesting and tricky challenges.

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-08T00:39:04Z

@lukvasando Thank you for the comment! I agree, Flubbies are very cute :3 The early game is intentionally paced a little more slowly so new players can consider their choices, read the cards and learn the mechanics without too much stress. I see your point though, we may have gone a little too far with the slow pace.

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-08T00:41:34Z

@dragonsbeardgames Thank you for playing and commenting! I'm glad you liked it. We tried pacing it a little more slowly so decisions can be considered carefully and new players can read the card descriptions and make an informed choice what to place. May have made it a little too slow in the end though haha

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-08T21:25:49Z

@flashviper maybe the creator of Flubbies @yazara can make one for you?

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-08T21:27:38Z

@lil-penguin thank you for the comment! I generally prefer to have some win-state as well. I think there's some replay value in the simple card-based highscore we've got in the game though. Play as many cards as you can before the Gronkas eventually win.

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-13T19:48:23Z

@asfdfdfd AWESOME!!!!

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-13T19:48:43Z

@shubart well, thank YOU for playing. And for the kind words :)

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-17T22:43:21Z

@recursor more cards and enemy modifiers would definitely make it more interesting in the long run. I'd love to extend the game with that sort of stuff at some point. Thank you for your kind words :)

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-17T22:43:54Z

@kenster not bad at all! Thank you for playing and giving feedback. Glad you liked it :)

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-17T22:45:56Z

@purrseus Thank you for playing and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed it that far. It's balanced to be kind of a slow paced long game but I feel like in order to fully back up that balancing it should get some more content in terms of more different cards and perhaps also some boss waves. We might add stuff at some point :)

Flubby Farm by yazara 2019-10-17T22:47:34Z

@tjmcdonald Not sure if we'll have the time to keep developing it as most of us have full time jobs but I do definitely see the promise :) I'll keep it in mind and maybe we'll have the time at some point to make more out of this.

A Merchant's Adventure by sharbelfs 2019-10-13T17:43:34Z

Your graphics are quite appealing and the layout of the UI made everything easily understandable and clear so that I understood the game's concepts quickly without much tutorialization. Good job on that!

I feel like you choose the perfect scenario and setting for the theme but balanced it in a way that the merchant fantasy doesn't get fulfilled as you actually start with some money but it becomes less and less. I never ended up making any more money than I had in the beginning. It didn't feel like I was building something from nothing as a result but more like I was forced to drive myself into ruin. Hope that makes sense to you :)

I still had fun, playing your game by the way, I just feel like with some different balancing and with some more choices regarding what to buy (maybe with a limited selection with each card draw) it could be more fun and fulfill the merchant fantasy a lot more. Maybe it's also a comment on the difficulties of entrepreneurship though in which case, well done haha :D

A Merchant's Adventure by sharbelfs 2019-10-13T19:15:20Z

@sharbelfs what I can say is that you definitely achieved your goal of making players want to move on as quickly as possible :)

Dissociation: Shadow of oneself by mindtricks 2019-10-13T18:00:13Z

I liked your setting and the tone of your game. In my runs I only ever got the sword ability for some reason and for the first few runs I didn't understand how the abilities filled up.

I dig the environment art, looks very cool!

It's cool you added music and it's generally a pretty nice track but I didn't feel like it fit the tone of the visuals very well.

Props for adding several control schemes to the game.

Start with nothing by rubyleehs 2019-10-24T22:23:30Z

Amazing take on the theme and all around a really cool puzzle game. Had lots of fun playing with language and finding new letters :)

Nothing by JoelLikesPigs 2019-10-13T15:20:23Z

12 deaths. One of my favourites so far! Blue mode is the best!!

It's really nice to see what interesting stuff can be done if your options of movement are limited in a platformer.

Ragtag Rescue by Tim Ruswick 2019-10-08T00:28:12Z

Lots of fun! I loved the emergent situational humor of things like honking every time I use a thruster or accidentally tearing apart my own space ship with an ill placed gun :D It was really hard to control but that's probably because I built my ship like a total idiot haha Great game overall, really enjoyed it.

Tale of the Toad King by Beebo Studios 2019-10-13T18:15:51Z

Haha that was really funny :D Cool backstory and funny voice acting. The graphics were really nice too, congrats!

I'd have kept playing if it wasn't for the life-system that sets you back to the first level if you lose too many times. I really don't understand why you chose to implement this as it seems like a pretty sure way to turn off players who are already engaged.

As long as I played, I really enjoyed my time though :)

HEARTSCAPE by ZakAmana 2019-10-13T14:12:55Z

Cool to see you also made a card game! I liked the simple yet effective graphics. The gameplay was engaging and it got somewhat challenging towards the end. The lightning bolts were definitely the item that added the biggest challenge.

PIPO THE GHOST by woody_builder 2019-10-12T21:33:33Z

Wow it's a super ambitious project to basically make a level editor for a 3 day game jam. You have my respect for that! The mood, music and visuals are not bad either! I love the effect of the blue background. Very pretty.

There were a few bugs with the physics and Pipo fell through blocks quite a few times, even preventing me from being able to finish the last level because the portal block didn't seem to work at all.

I enjoyed my time with this game regardless and hope that you'll take it somewhere great from here on. Great work so far!

The items, that change everything by Dock Frankenstein 2019-10-13T23:06:22Z

I liked this very much. It felt like I was watching and performing an experimental art performance at the same time.

Complete with the fact that I'm not quite sure what to make of the message at the end. Brilliant

Sneeter by bubblewandgames 2019-10-13T13:11:08Z

Haha that's a fun idea and also some insightful commentary on how people are incentivized to just say what the majority thinks in their social media bubbles.

Didn't get the rules at first but it became a lot more clear once I read the how to section :D

TidePool by Rebecca Harrison 2019-10-08T21:24:41Z

Love it, the crab is sooo cute! I like the movement system of climbing and would be interested to see what else you could do with that mechanic. Quite reminiscent of Grow Up / Grow Home (both games I really enjoyed). I really liked the detail that the music changed when you go underwater. I love dynamic soundtracks like that. Big plus on the audio side for that alone!

The point of collecting the trash was not immediately clear to me as the trash mostly didn't stay on top of the pillar. That may be fixed if the pieces automatically stuck in place at the top. Just a minor thing though. Sometimes I wished the camera was a little more zoomed out for better control but it was quite interesting to get this low-angle from the little critter's perspective.

Overall, very solid title, great job, everyone!

Ludum Dare Simulator by Marcin J 2019-10-13T19:12:12Z

Haha wow I ended up spending quite a bit of time on this one! It's actually quite fun and somewhat relatable. Watching those bars grow was engaging! Some balancing issues I had were that innovation was really hard to maximize or get a good ranking for, even after many rounds and adding lots of proc gen.

Ludum Dare Simulator by Marcin J 2019-10-13T19:26:19Z

@marcin-j Oh, that's fascinating since that part FELT quite sophisticated, actually! From a player perspective I didn't even feel like that part was shoddy or rushed I guess that the root of my problems was that my coding skills were going up really slowly compared to the other skillsets and that this in turn gave me a lower innovation outcome.

Leverage by BilalCh213 2019-10-12T20:56:24Z

I like your idea a lot. I think that this is an interesting spin on the tower defense genre. The flow of the game was quite fun, interactions were satisfying and the game looks nice.

There is one core design issue that I feel holds the game back: To achieve victory, you have to have ALL switches active. So the game isn't really ongoing if you don't have all the switches active. However, switches also act as power ups. This means that while the game is actively running, you always have all powerups and all the progression is front loaded. I think that if you only had to have a certain number of switches active to keep the counter going, it would make for way more interesting decisions and interactions. "I just lost a switch so I can't see the map anymore but the timer is still going so I just need to fix this problem to get back my power". This could be a situation in that case. Another way to fix the progression would be to unlock new switches by having micro-goals. Like, at first you only have to keep one switch up for some time, then two, then three and so on. This way, you'd have a progression that is running throughout the game. Just some of my thoughts, hope they make sense to you :)

Very fun game regardless!

Leverage by BilalCh213 2019-10-13T11:13:48Z

@bilalch213 cool, I'm looking forward to what you could do with these concepts. I appreciate how well you receive and respond to feedback :)

Fit the Sticky by Leonard Graf 2019-10-13T16:38:44Z

Interesting take on the katamari formula! From a game design perspective it's cool to see how the positive feedback loop of katamari works when turned on its head. I wish the level design was a little less linear as it quickly became obvious which route to take and the game turned into a normal auto-runner in which you have to take the clear optimal route and avoid obstacles.

Shadow Walker by SheepDog123 2019-10-12T13:30:30Z

Hey there, played through a couple of runs. The procedural generation was a nice touch for sure. I almost missed that aspect but then decided to go for another run at the end to find some new obstacles. Pushing the darkness often had me running into spikes but it wasn't frustrating due to the frequent checkpoint torches. Overall a nice little game you made here. I enjoyed my time :)

Planet Zero by benjames171 2019-10-13T16:01:02Z

Wow, very impressive to make all this in a weekend. High quality level design too!

Memoirs Found in a by Dane Tesla 2019-10-13T17:23:50Z

I played this because the graphics in your screenshots genuinely look amazing. I would love the style of this game if the circle of light in which I can see wasn't so tiny. This unfortunately made it very hard and tedious to get around and immerse myself in the game world.

I do appreciate the world you've built but I feel like I barely had a chance to witness it, despite running around in it for quite some time.

The collision in the church was a bit strange. I got stuck between the pews often and for some reason there's an invisible wall preventing me from going further to the left and right sides of the church. Sadly I was not able to progress past that part.

V0iD by senar93 2019-10-13T16:10:55Z

The atmosphere and audiovisual presentation was amazing! I wish the jum was not so slow and high and I wish that once I had the character I would still have had to use the block creation mechanic. I liked that but it was underused.

It was pretty cool though that after all I had played in the end screen message all along. Nice reveal at the end there.

Priest of RAGE by TheVideoGamester 2019-10-12T16:40:00Z

This was very interesting to play, especially in the beginning when every little change had major gameplay implications. It reminded me quite a bit of the "Upgrade Complete" flash games I played back in the day.

At some point the BGM (which I believe was made with Abundant Music, right? ^^) started playing over itself without ever stopping again which made it unlistenable but until then it was very enjoyable.

I wonder how far you could take this project if you had more time. It's already super impressive that you got so much gameplay out of such a short dev time. Congratulations!

Priest of RAGE by TheVideoGamester 2019-10-13T19:34:25Z

@thevideogamester yeah Abundant music is awesome. Very powerful composition tool. It's interesting how easy it is to identify its musical style though if you already know the program :)

I'm glad that we're in agreement that the flash game era was an amazing time for innovation in games. It feels like whenever someone tells me about their new game idea, I can send them a link to a flash game that did this or something similar years ago, haha :D

Run Dash Go by Etch-light Studios 2019-10-13T23:18:32Z

It was fun to play and I played all the way through the game even though there were some bugs with the jump (sometimes you can double jump but it seems inconsistent) and with getting stuck on walls (typical Unity platformer thing that can be fixed by assigning a different physics material to the character). Your take on the theme reminds me of the great flash game "Give Up".

Falling Flat by bonicle 2021-04-29T17:54:04Z

Love it when I manage to get through a tough section. In those moments, the flow is just through the roof. Sometimes it could be frustrating to collide with stuff that is already next to you or behind you since you can't even see it due to the first person perspective. The ending was absolutely priceless. We were both wrong :O Got a big laugh out of that one

Bunny Bunny Dig Dig by ZakAmana 2021-04-30T00:32:12Z

Very impressive to bang out such a complete and polished game. The visuals are cute and very well designed. Great cartoony graphics with beautiful, well chosen colours. Only thing I was missing was a final goal or ending to play towards. Reaching the bottom of the pit felt a little unsatisfying because there wasn't actually anything there. And I guess it would be cool if at least one diamond was guaranteed to spawn per playthrough since they're so important to the upgrade trees.

Other than those two nitpicks, it's a fantastic entry, deserving of all the attention :)

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-28T21:15:45Z

@danial-jumagaliyev Thank you for playing and commenting! For your info, neither Liam, nor Noa did any voice-acting on this. The player character Bubblyn was voiced by Jonas' sister Klara and the other two were voiced by me.

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-28T21:16:48Z

@gamesbysaul Thank you very much! There is only one ending. Multiple endings could've been cool but we barely had enough time to finish it with one ending already haha

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-28T21:22:07Z

@tim77 We should probably have enabled some kind of controller option. We actually thought of trackpad users quickly but then didn't pursue that line of thought further for some reason.

I also thought of mentioning Joefish in the ending cutscene but I wanted to end the story on a positive note. I thought, hey they're probably so happy to see each other, they won't think about anything else in that moment and would likely start talking about Joefish at a later point... I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of the story though, especially since I'm not usually a writer :)

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-29T09:27:58Z

@keppersnapper Ah that was actually just Noa's warm up sketch. We did our ideation after he made that one and one of the first things I said was "Let's avoid making a typical mining game" :D

We pretty much stuck with our plan as soon as we had one after our 2 hour ideation phase though.

I appreciate your praise of the story & VO, especially since I'm not normally a writer. So thank you :)

@strangeryann Hi there! Sure, I'd love to see you play it. As for behind the scenes materials, I actually streamed parts of the development here: https://youtu.be/AOj-sTuzqc4 and here: https://youtu.be/UoHCNMkvJ98

Other than that, most assets we made made it into the final game, actually. The "Concept art" we had was the level design sketch on our miro board and that's visible in the streams.

Have a great stream :)

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-30T23:40:03Z

@argorum thank you for playing! Glad you enjoyed it :) @pixel-lifetime Thanks a lot! It's cool to see how many people enjoyed our voice acting. I know I was super happy with the delivery we got from Klara and had to try hard to match that quality with my own lines :D @threeli Ah we could have done that but allowing movement opens a whole can of worms: what if there are spikes on screen and you swim into them? Do we just let you die in the middle of a cutscene? Do we have to restart the cutscene? What if you swim off screen? Do we push you back somehow? Do we just let the camera snap back onto you after the cutscene is over? It would've been cool to find solutions for all this but it seems like a lot of scripting would be involved for a minor benefit ^^ Glad you still enjoyed our game though, cheers! :) @heiach Oh I loved the Brbbrbrbrbrs that Klara sent us. Sooo good, we just had to use them! @yorsh I'm happy that you liked the story. Writing isn't usually my strong suit so that's good to know ^^ As it's mostly a linear story-adventure, we decided to focus more on making the experience nice and less on innovating mechanics.

Sewer's Plague : Into the nest by Nicolas Revillon 2021-05-03T21:37:40Z

The game looks really good and the control scheme is innovative and interesting. Nice music too!

I liked how the two characters are connected to each other and rely on each other. However, it was really difficult for me to get into as it felt way too hard to keep track of everything, juggling two characters, resource limits, cooldown timers and so many enemies and obstacles at the same time. It might have been balanced for 2-player mode but for me as a single person, it was way too overwhelming and I always died very quickly while feeling super incompetent. I personally think you should rebalance it to ramp up the difficulty far more slowly and maybe introduce one thing at a time because right now, you're expected to be quite familiar with all the systems from the get-go which didn't help.

Tl;Dr: I loved your game but I was totally overwhelmed by its difficulty.

Sewer's Plague : Into the nest by Nicolas Revillon 2021-05-03T21:41:15Z

Ah one more thing that just made everything harder and could probably just be removed to improve the game is that the hanging knight always went further and further down even without any inputs so another thing to keep track of on top of everything else was that I also have to pull him up every now and then. That felt kind of pointless.

Sewer's Plague : Into the nest by Nicolas Revillon 2021-05-03T23:34:58Z

@llaumegui Thanks for your reply! Perhaps the slow descend of the knight is cool in coop mode but I think in single player mode another layer of difficulty on top of everything is really not necessary but rather detrimental to the play experience. Maybe there can be a difference between the two modes here in the future :)

Now you see me by Haiyoooo 2021-04-28T21:42:30Z

Love the creepy creature paintings! The lighting effects gave it a pretty cool overall look too. And wow, it's pretty hard, especially in the totally white areas! Quite often, I died because I hit a wall lol. Managed to get 159 points so at least I got past the 100 threshold :D A custom font choice would've been nice to tie it together a little more but it's not a big deal

River, Carry Me Away by Noire 2021-05-02T00:13:56Z

Very nice visual design here. Obviously full score for mood. Only thing about the visuals I didn't like so much was that it overall has a very low-contrast look to it where many silhouettes just appear in a pale grey. But all the individual elements as well as the overall composition of each scene were designed beautifully! I really like the graphic design elements used like the stylization of the river's waves. Looks so cool! Overall great presentation!

I also love how unique the style and setting feels - the slavic folklore look really makes it stand out and makes it feel more authentic in a way.

The music is absolutely gorgeous! Big respect to the composer!

Wish there was a bit more to do other than just clicking on an object every now and then. Like it was cool the first time but the trick got old quickly and I felt like there could be some more depth to the interactive elements.

I wasn't entirely sure what exactly to make of the narrative. Maybe I wasn't clever enough to put the pieces together or I didn't immediately manage to tell all the characters apart but it was a bit hard for me to recognize a clear chronology of what actually happened in the plot. Could just be me being dumb though lol. Maybe there's also a bunch of cultural references that I'm not getting. Not entirely sure!

Either way, this has been a fascinating artistic experience. Well done, y'all!

Hot Rods: Highway to Rod by robokarla 2021-04-28T21:58:52Z

Haha I liked the little jokes you put in there. The lumpy beanbags lol

The 3d graphics looked kinda bad, especially with the camera often not being able to see much if you go deep enough. But I did like the character portraits!

The music was cool for sure! ^^

Kira's Flower Delivery by peterfiftyfour 2021-04-29T22:57:57Z

The premise of spreading happiness even to those that yell that they hate you is really cool! The music is nice and the art is what drew me in in the first place.

Gameplay wise, it's a bit shallow as you can just mash both buttons very fast and still get everyone a flower.

Still a fun and quite different experience, this one :)

Blackout by Frasse 2021-05-03T21:19:43Z

What a lovely point & click with a suprising story and lots of great humor! The music fits perfectly and sounds very professional. The animations are impressive. Really the only thing I had trouble with and had to look up was finding the cigarettes. A bed is not really a typical place where you'd find those and the bed already had another dialogue assigned to it so I didn't click on a specific point of the bed. A bit more of a hint or the pack slightly peeking out would've made it better.

There are two more UX-things I would have liked: 1. Change the mouse when hovering over something clickable 2. Make the text skippable when clicking rapidly to reduce waiting

Other than those few things, I really loved my experience with Blackout. Good job!

LostBrother by MeritCoding 2021-04-29T17:35:42Z

It was definitely the first shooting pickaxe I ever played with in any game so that's points for innovation! The mad brother following me was kinda scary actually.

Asterisk by Crychair 2021-05-01T23:38:40Z

It's fascinating how a little bit of good voice acting can elevate a game to a higher level like it does here. Really makes it feel more like a complete work.

Interesting to see so many sound designers on a single game jam game! I wonder how the workload was shared there. It does have some of the typical fmod problems with loops just suddenly cutting off and glitching out but it's a minor thing here.

The art was pretty all around but I wish the mines had a bit more visual feedback like a warning range and some nicer explosion effects.

Also, did I get it right and you can actually charge the mines actively and destroy them with the laser to prevent explosions? If that's intended, it only worked sometimes for me and I'm not sure why.

I dig the music, well done to the composers!

Wish there was some sort of meta-game loop like doing something with the money whenever you survive and get teleported. Without any run-to-run progression it feels like it's lacking some depth (hehe) But it's fine though, I get it was made for a game jam so obviously resources to pull off stuff like that are quite limited.

All in all, good job, fun game!

G.O.L.D ! - Goblins Outventure Loot Diggin'! by Argorum 2021-04-28T22:13:55Z

The pretty look drew me in and indeed, the game looks very nice! The control scheme while certainly being innovative, was very hard for me, especially with the precise drag&drop while also having to go back and forth with the keyboard at the same time. It was just a cognitive overload to control for me. Maybe just moving all magnets at the same time by adjusting your mouse position overall would've been easier to deal with. Like this, I sadly only made it past the first level and got frustrated with the second one especially since so many of the materials are placed near the edge and there's no grace period at all once you reach the edge.

I hope my little rant here wasn't too discouraging and at least a little helpful. It's still one of the better games in the jam, even just for the great looks & goblin impression!

Down Under by anactualhuman 2021-05-01T20:35:45Z

Pleasant little platformer. I like how it goes around to the start in the end. Also the springs have a cool sound :)

Level design had a nice difficulty curve to it and sometimes I had to think to get to the right solution which was cool. Well done!

Shotgun King: the Final Checkmate by benjamin 2022-04-08T00:06:50Z

What a fun, polished and well designed creation this is! I'm quite amazed by the amount of gameplay depth this has to offer, even with a full progression system and all that. Impressive!

Water Rises by Samuli 2022-04-07T01:37:13Z

This was super cute and quite relaxing to play. I enjoyed my time with it :)

Wish there were a few more different island layouts and wanted to understand the effects of each building a bit more but other than that it was a good time and totally on theme!

The Inglorious Yet Highly Stimulating Life of an Underpaid Graduate Student 2 by Kyle Farwell 2022-04-07T00:17:54Z

This was so cute and funny, I loved it. You have a great idea here and a nice sense of humor. Also that buff axolotl is something else hahaha.

Flooded Caves by nusan 2022-04-07T03:00:39Z

Nice, I'm really impressed by the water physics. They made for a really fun and interesting gameplay loop too. Played for multiple rounds and had a lot of fun with it :)

The Last Construct of Edos by Roberto Romao 2022-04-05T22:11:53Z

Super nice visual style and the photo cutout face as a representation of the other god was hilarious! Nice music choice too, even if you didn't create it yourself. I liked it.

The surprise when I tried to just jump into the same pit twice but then got blocked was cool.

I would've liked some more ways of dying. Like, once I tried to crush myself under those moving blocks but it just didn't do anything. Also I think it didn't really have a lot of those nice helping features like coyote time and corner avoidance so I missed a lot of jumps and bonked my head on tiny corners quite a bit. Not a big deal though, was still fun!

Please Don't Date Me by Shess 2022-04-05T23:53:34Z

Wow I'm really impressed with how you managed to turn the concept of this genre around in such a clever way. Until I was halfway through my first playthrough I actually still thought I was playing FOR the guy even though knowing her thoughts made it really awkward.

Then I understood and got all the different endings. The weird gundam ending was really funny :D

Oh No, Earth! by JudgeZedd 2022-04-07T18:29:07Z

Nice, I liked the voice acting. It was kinda hard to coordinate at times but that's the challenge of this game. It didn't feel all that inevitable that the earth would get hit since it didn't feel like the number / speed of rocks was increasing that much over time at some point. But I accidentally shot a lot of the rockets lol.

22h38 by Katutt 2022-04-09T01:08:40Z

Wow this is so impressive like how on earth did you guys manage to produce this much content in one jam?? Plus the idea behind it is fascinating and a real breath of fresh air. No complaints, great game!

Mia's Bear Service by Lumous 2022-04-09T12:36:03Z

2022-04-09 14_33_20-Window.png

Finally an innovation to the dress up game genre! :D This was very cute!

Got a little hectic towards the end but I liked that. Has a good ramp up the difficulty. I wonder if it's even possible to get a run without letting a single bear slip through. The ending when all your bears come out is quite rewarding :)

Later... by Kizu 2022-04-09T01:45:24Z

This is so beautiful and cute. Both the 3d and 2d art were super nice to look at. Amusing and relatable writing too - especially all those post-it notes were quite funny. I had a lot of fun finding all the endings. Gotta love jam-meta-games too, great stuff!

Don't Wake Me Up! by fjlucas 2022-04-06T21:21:32Z

Wow this game really has a creepy atmosphere. Why are all these hands coming to touch the poor guy D: But I like the visuals a lot, you've got a really nice style here. Wish there was some kind of score system, even if it's just a simple timer to let me know how long I made it. Just to keep it motivating.

Don't Wake Me Up! by fjlucas 2022-04-07T12:38:41Z

@fjlucas Sure, a post-jam version is usually a pretty good way of dealing with this. We'll make one of our game too but for fairness' sake will only publish it once the rating period is done. Good luck with yours!

Dead Weight by jsloth 2022-04-05T22:59:51Z

After some tries, I got 2 minutes. Very nice audio too. Quite enjoyable voice work :D

It had unique gameplay as well as visual style. Really cool idea overall and a good take on the theme.

Decay Season by Morricore 2022-04-06T19:56:57Z

Overall, I liked this concept. I felt like I always had enough food but the enemy encounters were the real problem for my playthrough. The diary pages in between with the little story pieces were a nice touch. Just wish there was a little more variation to it all. It gets quite samey after an ingame week. I survived 14 days in the end. It's generally quite impressive that you managed to make this alone during the jam. Cool!

Nice music by the way. Did you make it yourself?

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-05T21:45:33Z

@cedric86 Thank you for your kind words! Yes, it's possible to make but it's intentionally set up to make you *feel* like you're just delaying the inevitable. That's also the narration's job ^^

@schirdev thanks! I'm sorry for your mouse pad :D

@silkmeloni Ah, that happens a bunch at the start. We kind of expected many people not to make it very far but it's certainly possible to get the hang of it. Thanks for trying!

@digital-bacon Yeah, makes sense. It's a really hard game. Thank you for your kind words nontheless!

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-05T21:50:11Z

@sprunth Thank you so much! I really care about putting work into audio.

@kro yeah I agree. We kinda put all the voice work in within the last hour. It would have been nice to have more random lines especially early on. It kinda gets better once you get further every try (after learning for a bit) but yeah, having more variation would help keeping it motivating.

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-05T21:57:56Z

@zachsbutt Thank you so much! If you made it to 38m that's already further than most people here. However, there's still a lot more if you manage to get further. It's hard though ^^

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-05T22:14:08Z

@andrground If Bennet Foddy was really mean to you, this is what you'd get hahaha:D Thank you for giving our game a try!

@sagiii Glad you made it to the pop up ^^. There are a lot of fun little ways of tricking the player like that in this game.

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-05T23:55:20Z

@katsuhira Hey, thanks so much for trying it out! It's actually a partially hand-animated 2d sprite that we rigged to get the smooth tilting movements. It's funny how most people are actually convinced that it's 3d until I tell them :D

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-06T03:42:18Z

@mopifish Thank you so much for the glowing review :) I'm happy that you pulled through and made it further than most people would. I'm glad you liked my voice acting, that was such a last hour thing to add (but we planned it from the beginning). Good thing we managed to get it in in the end. I also loved your game!

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-06T13:29:06Z

@cakestorm Thank you for playing and leaving your kind feedback! I totally understand if this kind of insulting narration isn't everyone's cup of tea. The idea behind it was that it'd contribute to convincing people that failure is inevitable (though in truth it is possible to make it and there is a win-state). I hope my recorded voice wasn't all too harsh on you. I'm nicer in person :)

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T01:41:45Z

@pickyburrito49 haha got you :D Thanks so much for playing! It's actually possible to close the popup by clicking on the x but it's pretty hard to pull off without falling to your doom ^^

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T02:23:17Z

@puttiputt Thank you so much. Making me blush haha

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T12:36:03Z

@asukanami @mrpouletbzh @recyx yeah I hear you all! That's definitely something to fix in the full version. We'll just make the first voiceline play only when you load the scene initially rather than every subsequent try. It's not so bad once you get the hang of it and make it further every try but when you're new to the game, I realize that it's pretty annoying. Thank you all for the kind feedback!

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T15:06:32Z

@real-flamingicecubegames Thank you! So, you think you can make it across?

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T18:39:49Z

@pipelinks wow you made it really far! Yeah I agree with the VO stuff, we need to make more random lines for the earlier events. The best way to behave when it's about to invert is to keep it very centered in anticipation so it doesn't throw you off suddenly.

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T21:00:15Z

@pipelinks I kinda love that about it. You never quite know when to expect it so there's so much tension!

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-07T21:00:48Z

@bottled-up-dark-peace Oh awesome, thank you! I'll have to play your game later too :)

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-08T03:36:09Z

@unitedfailures Thanks for playing! It's definitely possible - I've done it. But yes it's hard. I haven't heard from anyone else that they've managed to get all the way. I hope to see more people make it eventually.

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-08T22:35:13Z

@krisztian Thank you and good luck! It's 100m

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-09T00:28:28Z

@renge what happens at that point is that your controls are being inverted for a little while. To make it past that point, stay very centered with your mouse and stable with your balance in the time before and during the inverted phase.

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-09T01:10:07Z

@porcus-pie Congrats, nice indeed :) Keep going, you can make it!

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-09T22:01:53Z

@leekanarchism Thanks for playing, sharing your experience and for the detailed feedback! W is mostly for those who are already quite good and want to get through the beginning section more quickly to get back to where they failed last time. 26m is a good start :)

@tim-leach Thank you so much! I wish you the best of future attempts. The game has quite a few more tricks up its sleeve ;) If you make it further one day, let me know :D

@decrementedpalindrome That's a great score, further than most people get! Congrats! I'm happy the game worked so well for you

Mr. Final Boss by Oroshibu 2022-04-07T01:09:17Z

This was just all around fantastic. Really well polished and great looking game. I had a lot of fun playing and the different abilities really encouraged different playstyles. The music was also just kickass! Nice!

QUADRATORUM by Blue Pin Studio 2022-04-08T01:53:27Z

So I think this game didn't really work for me I don't know... I played in the Firefox browser with hardware acceleration as recommended but somehow enemies couldn't hurt me, I only shot at really irregular intervals, kinda rarely and also there was just nothing going on for long stretches of time.

I'm sure the game can be a lot of fun if it all works out but for me it was strange.

Highrail to hell by BadPiggy 2022-04-05T21:20:59Z

Love your iconic visual style. I can always tell when a game is made by you. The ending kind of surprised me hehe. What I really liked was that you always added a new objective for each room and kept it fresh that way.

I didn't really understand the kick mechanic while playing but that's ok since I never really needed it to play the game. It seems like the background-music plays over itself for a while when you reload a level. But those are minor gripes. Nice game, short but sweet and with a good difficulty curve!

Ballgeon by koro.games 2022-04-08T20:07:34Z

This was a lot of fun and I like how you did the progression both of the player and of the difficulty. The triangles are my nemesis haha

Good work on this one, I had a great time with it!

THEMARUNGA by Trexxak 2022-04-07T02:35:15Z

Quite the humerous experience, I liked the meta part of the guy pulling up an LD page. The gameplay was a bit overwhelming at first before I really understood what was going on.

Tactical Ghosts: The Impification by SnowyCocoon 2022-04-06T20:16:25Z

Pretty cool concept overall. The chess rules mixed with the frantic timed gameplay made for a unique and fun experience. I managed to get a score of 4100 and unlocked all the content. I wonder if it would've been cooler to have fewer repeated levels until you unlock all content and then having a sort of endless highscore mode. Also in my first run I didn't get what to do because I simply didn't notice the yellow square at all. I think if it had been animated, that wouldn't have been an issue for me.

Gone Out by Bea 2022-04-05T22:48:33Z

I loved the mood and atmosphere of this - the audio did a lot for that but visually this was also beautiful. Generally, the idea fit the theme super well too. I only wish that there was a little more to the gameplay. For what it's worth, there was quite some tension when going back to the fire, wondering if it's still on. But other than that, I was just kinda holding one key the whole time. It achieves its goal well enough though. Good job!

Save Sin by KillRyusha 2022-04-06T01:21:32Z

The artwork for the backgrounds especially is super beautiful, great rendering, nice lighting and colours and all the rock formations fit together in a very cohesive way. I'm not so convinced by the score system since it both kind of takes the focus away from the theme of trying to delay the inevitable but also since you only get points within a certain speed range, it feels a bit complicated and not so elegant. Maybe you could find a system that focuses on staying alive and collecting potions more?

Also, while I did really enjoy the cool moody music, the sound design was otherwise a bit lackluster. There are all these different objects with different material properties and yet they all make the same sound.

The fun little ragdoll guy was pretty cool to play around with, especially since you can just place things on top of them and it gets all glitchy ^^

I wish there was a fullscreen mode because I'd really like to have a closer look at all the nicely detailled artwork while playing.

Terra Defensio by MrchickenBoy 2022-04-08T00:18:53Z

I shot 69 astroids before deciding it's enough and the earth should have a total health value of -69. Nice.

Running the Clock by Boykala 2022-04-08T01:32:07Z

I liked the puzzle where I have to use multiple runs and place my previous corpse on a button to open a door. Nice, clean, efficient art style. Quite consistent with it too.

I was pretty confused a lot of the time though. It wasn't always clear to me what to do and in the end the game crashed when talking to the lady near the barrel.

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-05T21:41:21Z

There's a lot to love here, the art is gorgeous, there's plenty of content and the premise is intriguing. I also like the sound the strange creature makes. I sadly got a crash twice and I don't know why. It just suddenly said that the webgl connection was lost or something and then the screen went black and I heard a snoring noise. Not sure what was up with that.

Also I'd have loved to read more of the text more carefully but the creature just kept advancing towards me so I just skipped through a lot of it, sadly.

Driving through mountains has never felt this immersive before :o All jokes aside, this sure has a car in it. Wait, that was another joke. Dang idk uh. I liked the best jar. It truly was the best. Hmm. What else. Ah right, honestly quite ambitious to make a whole driving game for a jam like this. And you did it. Congrats!

One Last Letter by fosf0 2022-04-06T23:42:01Z

Very interesting idea, totally unique gameplay concept and multiple game loops interlocking to create something cohesive. My favourite feature was the music dynamically getting more messed up when getting closer to death. That was a really cool touch!

There were several bugs like the text UI not going away when going towards the bed and the double piano guy but I'm sure you're already aware of those. I wish the graphical style was a bit more cohesive since it felt like there were several styles existing besides each other. Maybe because there were multiple artists working on this. I really like the logo and the title screen art though, that looks super cool!

Oh and idk how to solve this but it kinda goes on for too long. It feels repetitive once the pills & strawberries run out. I was just in a loop of writing, going to the piano, going to the mirror and back again for quite a while.

Still though, really charming submission and I enjoyed learning about this man's life & doggo

Hydroponica by Cakestorm 2022-04-05T23:20:21Z

This is a really pretty game with great music too. It felt quite unique and I think it's clear that a lot of thought went into creating all of these plant species.

However, I was just confused about what to do most of the time. While figuring out the mechanics was part of the fun, I think that in the end my actions felt like they lacked direct impact on the outcome for the oxygen & carbon levels. I never really quite felt in control enough that I could really make informed decisions.

Well, I did it! However, I kinda gave up on figuring out the order of the digits of the final puzzle and brute forced it. I have no idea what the plan was for that. Really liked the other puzzles though. Took me ages to figure out where to find the morse code but felt pretty clever when I noticed the answer.

The framerate was pretty bad for me throughout. Maybe because it was webGL only. Wonder if it would've run better with a Windows version.

The blacklight puzzles were great overall.

I also liked the chill music.

One thing that felt kinda unnecessary was how high the rotation panels were. Just made it hard to reach especially when you have to use all the boxes at some point. Also never quite figured out the rules for the rotation numbers but oh well :D

Exit by Krzyhau 2022-04-08T19:35:43Z

Arboressence by Aspect Studio 2022-04-07T00:52:34Z

I agree with the fluri :)

Fire go brrr

Really nice art it was so cool to look at all the nice 2d animations and the castle was designed in a pretty creative way. At first I was confused about what the non-fire abilities did but once I understood, I was at least able to make it a bit longer. My high score was 102 seconds ^^

Hungry Hungry Bird by IanTheBee 2022-04-08T00:57:09Z

Aww this was so cute :) Even dying felt kind of juicy and cute. If there's one thing to criticize it's that the music stopped when dying and never resumed again. Sad, I really liked the music!

Delay Dragon by dindotjs 2022-04-08T00:45:12Z

I made it and it had a consistent difficulty curve but boy was it hard! The last two levels both had a significant difficulty spike compared to the previous one but it was pretty cool once I understood how to pull through.

Also, the dragon is cute, generally nice visual art.

The platforming controls with the dual use of shooting at the wall to hold it back and propelling yourself forward were pretty interesting and something I haven't seen like this before. Nice work :)

Nightwaker by Bottled up Dark Peace 2022-04-07T23:19:54Z

Wow this is really good! I liked the visuals and general atmosphere a lot. Also it's an interesting feeling to have to type out words while still hitting j and l. There's one place where I think another checkpoint could've been useful - at the pit where you have to push to make a bridge. It kind of feels like a very long and dangerous section.

I got a crash once where it said webgl context lost and then the game hung up. I'm using Firefox.

Cool music too, I liked the ambience of it. Wish there was a little more other audio like footsteps and audio feedback when typing letters.

Overall felt very polished and the game world was intriguing.

Hole by OlgaVek 2022-04-06T19:47:59Z

This was hilarious to look at while playing :) I also really liked the artwork in general, all the rendering is super well done! I'm sure it must've been quite hard to get this to work, technically. I must say though that often I felt like things didn't quite work the way they were supposed to. Often I couldn't grab a limb anymore or when placing a limb on a wall it just wouldn't stick for some reason. If those things were fixed, I'd love to play this again and try to get all the way up!

The Gallows by Burn Tree 2022-04-08T20:37:38Z

I liked exploring the backstory with this beautifully drawn scenery and cute artstyle. The music is probably my favourite part though. Really set the mood super well. Wish there were some more sound effects to complement it.

Game system wise, I didn't understand what the paper did at first. Maybe that could've been made a little clearer from the beginning. But it's fine.

Strangling by josep93 2022-04-06T02:56:49Z

I really liked this. Everything from the art being extremely beautiful, even with the sort of messed up surreal things it portraits to the clever body-transformation mechanics and puzzles was really on point.

Only wish that there was a little more interaction or narrative with the npcs in the starting area. I would love to learn more about this strange, interesting world.

You will fall by adobobo 2022-04-06T00:36:28Z

This was so tense to play, I was really afraid of crashing quite often because the checkpoints were spread out so far. I think that was good actually because it felt extra satisfying to reach a new one.

I'm not too sure about how well it fits the theme but gameplay wise it was one of the most enjoyable games of LD50 that I played so far. Good job!

Also, I got to this game because my team made a game with the same name haha. It's quite different but similarly to yours also pretty hard ^^

Very cool concept and good, clear visuals. Though, I never really felt like I got the hang of it. Like I understand how it's supposed to work but the progression is too fast for my golfing skill and I can never get more than like 6 balls before everything starts falling apart. I think it could be really satisfying to build up a large golfball "herd" but I'm just too bad at it to make it happen...

I enjoyed this quite a bit. The music is very fitting for the setting and scenery, the graphics are nice and pretty and then it happens... Replace the fairies with farm animals and you get what happens irl all the time... Clever game!

Lil Death by ghostbomb 2023-01-15T04:34:48Z

I like the overall flow of the gameplay! Doing long combos in midair is incredibly satisfying.

I wish there was a way to have runs lasting longer and the character being less fragile. I also wish there was some more leniency with hit accuracy, invuln time, hit timing with enemy spawns etc. That would make it even more enjoyable but the fun-factor in this game is already really high. The animations also look fantastic and juicy. Catchy music completes the package for a great game feel :)

@fabdynamic well... seems like you cemented your high score lol. GG man!

Homunculus by Iluvatar 2023-01-15T06:23:37Z

Nice little game here, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and backstory. The way you did the voice audio is really interesting sounding, almost like a different language. I got an ending where the homunculus came out of the tank and presumably attacked the others. I wonder what other endings may be possible...

Poppy Defense by tiptoe 2023-01-15T20:21:18Z

Wow what a fully fleshed out game! I'm impressed with the amount of plants and upgrades you managed to get in in such a short time. Can be pretty hard at the start. I had too little seeds to get a good start sometimes but then again I think that was mostly because the minigun seems to be bugged in some way so in my next run I didn't buy that and got to wave 212023-01-15 21_15_08-Window.png

Overall really liked my time with this game. Good job y'all!

Paper Druids by rubr 2023-01-15T15:58:16Z

Ahh this is frustrating because I think it can actually be a brilliant tactics game but it's balanced to be way to inaccessible for new players like me. Little things like not being able to see the attack range of my units before walking with them, strong enemies like cavalry coming in really early, generally too many enemies spawning in, no matter how many units I have on the field, only being able to do one action per round, some enemies having too much health to deal with, most plants (that I saw) only having 1 health, not being able to undo an accidental move or attack action, being able to accidentally kill your own plants and unites and I could go on and on, sadly make it impossible for me to really get to the fun part of trying out the different units. I am just never able to build any complex shapes because I'm constantly overrun. But it could all be fixed by just tweaking these values.

I think then I'd actually enjoy the game greatly as I do like these tactics games and this one has a lot of potential while using the theme innovatively and cleverly. Please do consider rebalancing if you ever do a post-jam version.

Managed to get a score of 12 in my 4th run fyi.

Crop Circle by Rulrite 2023-01-14T01:46:30Z

Quite the pretty game! Love the color palette. I think audio and visuals feel very consistent throughout and the feedback is nice an juicy :)

In a way you can pick up this game without really knowing what to do and there's not much of a negative consequence for not understanding what's going on. After two rounds I still kind of feel uncertain about whether some of the items and events are a good or bad thing. But I had fun nonetheless!

Travelling Tea Maker by detectiveLosos 2023-01-15T03:17:56Z

Ah this is a nice concept to be a travelling tea merchant and make different teas based on the situation. I also really like the little illustrations :)

Unfortunately I often didn't quite know which ingredients would be the correct ones but maybe I just didn't look for enough clues since I read the text kinda fast.

HarvesTile by Wieczny 2023-01-14T02:47:46Z

Hmmm this looks so promising but sadly I just didn't manage to understand the basics. I just have no idea how to ever get that all-important resource number up in any way. Really sad, would have loved to get this and play more. There just seems to be a lot of complexity right away and I'd like it better if it slowly built up to it from a very simple beginning.

reOrganiser by The-Vecter 2023-01-12T21:33:26Z

It seems the web version doesn't really work like I can't place organs anywhere. It's better in windows though. I think you've got a pretty interesting and different idea here which is quite cool! Graphics are nice too, pretty ambitious for a jam, honestly!

Squirrelativity by cassowary 2023-01-15T07:07:12Z

Thank you for this adorable little title. I had a good relaxed time with it :)

Last puzzle was pretty hard but I got all of them. I won't reveal your little squirrel secret, don't worry ;)

Only thing I could wish for would be some new mechanic so there is some more variety.

Cultist Garden by GreenRadiation 2023-01-12T21:00:38Z

I loved the graphics, story, and concept. However, playability could be better. I often feel like the cards don't really react to my clicks and they seem to have long cooldowns that get tedious quickly. Nice music too by the way, really sets the mood.

@zahkros Thanks! I think we scoped it pretty well for the jam :) A more intricate version would be nice but at the moment, we both don't have the capacity for it ^^ Feel free to steal the idea though, I also think there's still more potential here ^^

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-13T19:38:53Z

@hawkin Damn feeling sad for Sora now :frowning: We did try not making it too hard to have a satisfying experience and score, since in game jams, it's nice if you get to play through it and leave with a nice memory of your experience. You did end up getting an exceptionally good score though! And yet there's still lots of room up, I think the highest score I know of so far is 26 :)

@vivek-sharma20 What is death if not a necessary part of life? Thanks for playing and for your suggestions! I agree that some more random events happening would make the game even more interesting for repeated runs. It's just that this time we really didn't want to take on another project and were committed to finishing everything in a polished state well within the jam time. I think that worked out pretty well for us :)

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-13T19:46:01Z

@fizzbark ah I agree, it would be great to have more individual costumes, hats perhaps, and of course can always have more names in the list. Kinda hard to come up with all those names. It's already over 100! :D The tricky part was to try to go for mostly gender neutral names so the reproduction system doesn't need to be more complicated ^^

Oh and a goba fruit tastes delicious and has a rich hearty taste with a juicy texture to it.

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-13T19:50:23Z

@pazzi Hey there, quite glad you chose to play our game too, as I did really love yours :) Your comment makes me happy, thanks for all the kindness! We had exactly that issue early on of there being no benefit to feeding the elders so we decided it would make sense to be kind and let them have a dignified old age. Score is an easy way to justify that ^^

Now that you say it, kind of strange that there's no system design category! Yours would certainly score quite highly there too!

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-13T19:51:24Z

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-14T16:03:15Z

@aune Thanks for playing and leaving a thoughtful comment. I would have loved to do even more to create this emotional intensity you're speaking of. Like what if some people had accessories like hats and stuff and then if they die, you see the hat or their favourite toy etc. on their grave...

The point about percentages is very fair. Not sure how else to show an accurate chance representation that feels more intuitive though. There's this 1:10 1:50 kind of representation but I don't know if people can understand this stuff better. I think whenever you roll a 1 with dice and every other number would have gotten you a win, that feels unfair too, just like when you lose in a 70/30% bet. It just doesn't feel like that's supposed to happen lol :D

Turbeets racing by Aune 2023-01-14T03:56:58Z

Great fun! I think it's interesting how much you can catch up even extreme distances between the radish and you if you get into enough fields. At the same time there's a self-balancing aspect to this as a faster speed gets harder to control and you run into obstacles like trees and rocks more easily.

Managed to beat all levels but the last one was a huge jump up in difficulty compared to the first two.

Some sound effects could make this feel even better, especially for crashing into things and getting boosted by fields.

Doki Doki Ninjin by ChevalBancal 2023-01-14T02:18:05Z

It is incredibly impressive how much content you managed to produce in the jam time. And that with just two people! I'm amazed! I loved all the little unique mini games and quests. The graphical style and music is beautiful and consistent. The gameplay kept staying fun and interesting throughout. All in all, a fantastic and cute experience <3

Click On Fish by Pomo 2023-01-14T03:17:16Z

Wow this gets pretty hard! Managed to get a score of 75 but damn does it get stressful once you have a lot of fish chaotically swimming around. I like the funny designs of the fish. Very creative haha!

Really fun music and VO stuff too :)

Oasis of Souls by Forik 2023-01-15T01:35:04Z

Wow this is an incredibly pretty game! I especially liked the automatic camera adjustment system that would make the view look quite cinematic all the time. The game just lagged sometimes but that may well be Unreal Engine's fault as it might not play too well with my somewhat old gpu driver.

Didn't really understand so well how it was related to the theme or generally what the narrative was supposed to be about. It's fine though as I did enjoy my time a lot.

Harvcrab-232 by Raynorr 2023-01-14T16:36:59Z

You've made something pretty complex and big here and your audio-visuals craft a wonderful atmosphere. I would have loved to play more but when I died from the second time ind the second level to the drones because there was just no way I could get enough resources in time to create even just a single turret, I gave up. It's especially sad that it throws you back to the main menu so you have to do level 1 again... Why not just reload the current level as when you entered it?

In my opinion the game is balanced in a way that makes it too hard to achieve the objectives for a new player. It's fine that the ship controls are really difficult. It feels like you're in outer space and I imagine that to be hard to control. However, the player health, the time when the drones start coming in, the station health, the amount of resources needed. Pretty much all of these could be tweaked in order to make the game a lot more accessible.

The Harvest by EpicGameFan 2023-01-14T04:22:35Z

Weed Em and Reap by zhelding 2023-01-14T03:30:18Z

Cool idea, just wish a round lasted a little longer to balance out the inherent randomness of the car draws a little. Maybe would be nice if I could expand towns in some way to other places or if there were cards that make the run longer. Different cards could also use different amounts of the time resource so that certain things like migration can be more worth it when going for a high score. My best run ended up being at a score of 15. Love the graphic design on the cards and cities by the way!

CrapCirclz by Francois Dervaux 2023-01-12T20:20:44Z

ctrl+key browser tab closing also happened to me...

Graphics are super pretty, love the handdrawn shader.

Not sure how to float, didn't really find out...

Controls can be a lil choppy on keyboard, not so easy to draw stuff like circles with just wasd.

The idea is super cool though, just wonder if a different control scheme would have played more into it.

Hex Crops by armlubos 2023-01-15T22:01:36Z

Pretty game! It took me a couple of rounds to get it well enough until I could beat the AI. It's possible to get to a point where you can't play any card due to lack of resource and the game has no way of handling this by passing it seems.

Art is generally integrated pretty well except that some tiles have a different scale than others like the city looks too small compared to the trees in the forest.

SolarShip by Bardia Crunch 2023-01-09T21:46:34Z

2023-01-09 22_44_12-Window.png

Fun little game. For a shooter feels kind of relaxed because of the music but also because you're tryng to move as little as possible.

My favourite part is hands down the visuals for the shot. Feels super powerful! :)

Dark Harvest by JakeJet 2023-01-15T05:49:35Z

Ohh pretty tense atmosphere in this one, actually got kind of scary. Never managed to get out alive because the creatures kill instantly and it's a bit hard to notice them due to all the darkness. Which of course makes it scarier but also a bit too difficult for me.

Harvest of Life by schnodelfactory 2023-01-14T02:36:50Z

I liked how you interpreted the theme with this symbolic philosophical idea in mind. It just needs some more feedback as to how many more choices I get to make before something new will happen since a lot of it is repeated to the point where I felt like I HAD to make some bad choices to progress in any way. The UI selection code was also sadly quite buggy at times, like fonts would stay there longer than the frame, once I clicked one to the right, I couldn't go back to the left anymore and so on. In the end I am also not really sure how my specific actions affected the outcome. Most choices also feel pretty obvious to me. Like of course it's good to do well in school, not to steal, not to insult people and not to take drugs. But that makes the choices feel less meaningful because they're so obvious.

Like the drawing style by the way. It's something else and refreshing. But my favourite part was probably the audio design and music.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Microdominion by LeReveur 2024-10-23T19:04:12Z

Huh that is interesting. Despite the right microbes having way better stats, they always lose now. I don't know what I did...

2024-10-23 20_57_18-LD#56 - Microdominion – Mozilla Firefox.png

I like the theme interpretation a lot. Going as tiny as possible is a cool choice. Though the feedback was so lackluster that I didn't understand the game at all at first. Like, I didn't realize that I won a round when I did because the game still says "Oops, lose" and tells me to "improve dna" even though I can't even choose anything. Similarly confusing is the fact that when you do win, you get to choose between some of the traits to improve them but it seems arbitrary which traits you get to improve. For a casual game, this was sadly quite the confusing experience and start into the game.

Unfortunately there's one more strange game design aspect I'd like to highlight: You only get to make a choice when you lose. That means, that you are kind of rooting for the enemy to win so that you can have an interaction with the game. I think because of this, it may be better suited as a 2-player game where each time, both players get to make a choice and the losing player always gets to choose last so they can react to their opponent's strategy, as a catch-up-mechanic.

I wish there was some audio.

The game also lagged quite a bit for me but it's ok because it doesn't require fast reactions at any time.

A tiny worm's life by angry-cyboot 2024-10-17T20:13:21Z

Really liking the mood that the adaptive music system delivers alongside the limited visuals. Quite the tense horror for such simple graphics. Or as some game reviewers would say: it really makes you FEEL like the worm!

Would have liked to have some strategies on how to deal with the different predator types. Right now it's always just "as soon as you see the tremor, turn the other way and hope that your turn radius and speed suffice".

I managed to get a score of 300 in the end.

Tiny protector by RickSquanchez 2024-10-17T21:34:29Z

Wow, that was over before it started! :D Just kidding, even if it was short, I had my fun during the couple of seconds it lasted. At least this way it doesn't unnecessarily repeat itself, overstaying its welcome.

I think you actually had quite some creative level ideas. Wish you'd have had more time to expand on those to make it a bit longer.

Also wish that there were SFX, that could've added a lot of juice.

Oblob by HermesEs 2024-10-23T18:29:57Z

What a cute game! It looks great and the creature designs are adorable AF!

I wish that the magnifying glass behaviour was a bit more geared to what I'm doing and less just random, unpredictable movements that are for the most part 100% easy to avoid by just going to the edge of the map and waiting. That unfortunately diminished the fun quite a lot, even if the game looks super great and highly polished.

And I wish I knew if you made the (awesome) music yourself or took it from somewhere. Otherwise, I feel like I can't rate you fairly on audio.

It would be a lot nicer if the game ended sooner too. I eventually simply got too bored and quit.

Aggrolotls by Zomk 2024-10-19T00:37:09Z

One of my favourites so far! I really had quite some fun growing my swarm and improving my abilities over time. Attacks were very clearly telegraphed, the movement system works well (once I realized that I could hold the mouse button down to move), and it's got some nice creature design, especially the tongue-enemy. I love that goober.

I managed to get to level 14 before there were so many creatures around that it wasn't safe to exist anywhere and they overwhelmed me. Would've liked to play for longer too but that's that.

A little less "grindy" balancing for unlocking more levels would've made it even a bit nicer in my opinion.

Hamster Hamilton's Cardboard Quest by Yaen 2024-10-17T23:42:45Z

@angry-cyboot Thank you for playing and for your comment. I'd love to make more levels eventually. We had to cut the pipes because of the hamster's unexpected inability to climb small ledges. And the choice to hand-craft dedicated levels instead of a generative approach happened 2 hours before the final deadline so I had to rush through it like crazy in the end lol

The last level is beatable in various ways, and yeah some of them include clipping seesaws into walls and each other but there are ways that feel more legitimate too where you have to kind of block the seesaws rotation with other blocks so the hamster can go up on them.

The web buttons breaking is an unfortunate thing: we used an older script that has worked fine in the past but apparently doesn't work anymore with Unity 6 or perhaps just this project.

I hope you still overall enjoyed the game, even with its quirks

Hamster Hamilton's Cardboard Quest by Yaen 2024-10-17T23:46:00Z

@mibro Thanks a lot for playing! Yeah I agree that at least the first screenshot looks like a level that should work. It's a bit frustrating that the hamster can't handle small ledges like that. Only taller walls will make it jump.

Hamster Hamilton's Cardboard Quest by Yaen 2024-10-19T13:10:44Z

Hamster Hamilton's Cardboard Quest by Yaen 2024-10-23T18:36:18Z

Tiny Companions by MidnightMist 2024-10-25T13:14:05Z

Very impressive to make a metroidvania in a game jam (trust me, I know!). I like the concept of sending out creatures with different abilities quite a lot. The beetle is especially cool, as a creative "double jump alternative" that can also do more than just gain you some height. Very creative mechanic.

I overall also liked your pixel art quite a bit. Looks nice!

It can be a bit fiddly with the controls being split between two different input devices (mouse & keyboard) where I'd have expected switching between creatures to be on the mousewheel and also "w" or up arrow to be jump. But I beat the game still so it's fine.

Very impressive scale of the game too, even with two distinct environments. I didn't really understand the ending though. I only just entered the 2nd environment with the red walls, lit a single torch, and then a spider (which looks awesome!) comes and a flying thing flies to my character and I get a repeating ending cutscene... Hm not sure what to make of it.

While we're at things that confused me: For a long time I didn't know that it's possible to switch between creatures using q and e so the cave section really didn't make any sense to me. My bad if it did say that you can switch via q and e in the game... If it didn't, well I think that it should. We actually have a similar problem in our LD submission where we forgot to write ingame that you can rotate pieces with right click. Anyway, that made me wander around for ages in that dark cave.

Personally I think the enemies have a bit too much HP. Not a big deal though.

Even with these little issues, I still think this is an outstanding jam submission to be proud of! Well done!

Eater Scrutiny by knexator 2024-10-17T21:41:24Z

The most fun and most innovative game I've played in this jam so far! I really enjoyed picking out the patterns of the ant movements and the comments of the picky anteater were also quite funny. Sad that there's no sound, would've loved some slurpy licking sound when I gobble up the little insects. And some approving / disapproving sounds of the anteater would also have been really funny.

Very creative idea with all the different movement patterns. Ended up with 119 points :)

Fat Bear Fumble by wazce 2024-10-23T18:16:44Z

The first time I played, I didn't understand how to interact because there was no ingame tutorial so I just stood there, confused, until I lost to mysterious circumstances. Then I read about the controls. So I controlled my bear (kind of sluggish and un-fun to control, but hey, we movin!) and steered it into all bunnies to catch them, of course! When I finally succeeded, I got presented with the glorious victory message: You Lose! Yay! Wait, what? Ok, let's read the rules... I have to protect them! Oh :D

Third try went better though they somehow never seemed to collect or use the acorns I threw from the trees for them. Not sure how to enforce that. Of course I still lost in the end. I don't know if that's preventable.

Despite my confusing experience with the game, I must commend the charming graphical presentation and the cool and fitting music and soundscape (wish there were sounds of interactions to make them feel more impactful though!).

Tiny Creature Support Group by coltonphillips 2024-10-17T21:18:40Z

Funny music! I like the idea of guessing at words like hangman but with a theme and tips to narrow it down a bit so it's not just totally random guessing.

I suppose I personally would have liked it more if it was just actual animals for most of it rather than pop culture references as I didn't know all of them. The way the hints were written, they mostly also didn't seem to help me much at all. But since it was balanced so generously, I managed to get through it anyway. Without even realizing that there's a buy mechanic so I was just hoarding money :P

At the end of the day it's just not that satisfying though if I'm basically just exhausing all the letters one by one until I happen to press the right one. It often felt less like guessing at the creature and more like just using my knowledge of what are the more common letters in the English language.

By the way, not turning off graphics rating will simply mean that you're getting lots of 1s for the graphics rating. And that can influence peoples' overall ratings.

It's an interesting idea for a setting but I must admit that even after trying to get how the game works and what things mean and trying to play for a good while, I came out of it not really understanding any of it. I don't get what the goal is, what my strategy for skipping or collecting symbols is, what the rules are for what symbols give what scores... I just didn't get it unfortunately. I tried reading the tutorial texts ingame but between them often going past me before I could read everything and them being written in honestly kind of broken English, that didn't help me much.

Could be my fault but my friend who tried it at the same time, didn't get it either.

Hamster Shelter by Doonutsaur 2024-10-23T17:54:15Z

Very nicely designed and cleverly thought out game! I think it's one of the best ones from this jam I've played yet. Can be a bit slow sometimes though and involve a bit much waiting / downtime when you build a new cycle. But maybe that was just due to my subpar strategies. After building my third cycle expansion, I got "too much" food storage immediately. Maybe something to look into, like how to prevent the balancing from exploding too suddenly with all the multipliers and so on.

Also cool to see another hamster-based game with level editing features, just like our own haha

Pseudopseudopodia, or amoeba walking simulator by TheLastSlowpoke 2024-10-23T21:54:48Z

I like this toy a lot, not only does it look really great, it's also a wonderfully pure interpretation of the theme. Also quite innovative to control a fluid amoeba creature. You never know which parts are going to move so there are interesting shapes that happen as you click around. Pretty cool demo!!

Kat Kicker by Agent__Maxwell 2024-10-17T20:42:45Z

What a fun premise. I liked the moment of realization the characters had in the end. Beautiful work on those character portraits too. Really enjoyed those.

The art in the game is sadly a lot less pretty than those portraits, mostly due to some less than ideal colour choices. The cats are cute but I wish they were more alive. It felt a little like I'm just throwing cat statues.

While I like what the game is going for, I think that in the end, all those little assets you're adding over time don't seem to amount to much because they basically didn't really do anything discernable and it felt like the game is just repeating the exact same non-challenge over and over until the story ran out of new text boxes.

I wish that I could have actually used the leafblower to blow cats over the fence or something. Or that I'd have to actually catch cats that are running around and trying to avoid being caught.

I liked the music. It was nice :)

I am impressed with the presentation of the game, especially in all the wonderful little drawins your team made. Not only are they pretty to look at, they also have a unique and innovative style and colour palettes.

I do like the humour in the game too, also with the gestures and so on, but maybe choosing to commit to this old-english thing in your tutorial texts wasn't the best idea when it comes to clarity.

Which brings me to the point that I struggled with the most: The game desparately needs a way of easing me into it. It immediately overwhelms you with complexity rather than introducing things slowly bit by bit. And another thing is that the game lacks clear feedback of what is happening with all my fingers and nails and the enemy's HP and actions etc. There just need to be some animations upon finishing my preparation phase that show me clearly what the results of my actions were.

Clearly your game designers did quite a lot of work to come up with quite the unique and complex battle system, but it's wasted effort as the game fails to make itself clear enough to me as a player. And yet, I was consistently unable to lose any battle due to overly forgiving balancing. I didn't understand what I was doing - but the game design and balancing also made it so that I didn't have to understand anything to succeed either.

The audio is alright. I liked the sounds going along with some of the gestures. It's a bit annoying that the music keeps starting over and over again. It'd be nicer if it just played through.

I think your UI also looks gorgeous like all the other graphics did, but in the shop, the text flows out of the boxes of the tooltips, making it impossible to read it all.

Soul's Descent by maneoliz 2024-10-17T21:28:39Z

Really awesome music! I liked it a lot. The lack of sound effects made it not really come together as a whole though.

The graphics are fine and have a consistent style which is always a big plus.

It was really difficult to make it through and because there were no checkpoints and the controls weren't all that polished, I kind of gave up after one try where I felt like I got really quite far. Didn't feel like starting all over again.

I didn't really understand how this game relates to the theme to be honest.

Unfortunately couldn't play because it just started into a black screen and then closed itself :(

AquaLens by Chlolauro 2024-10-18T23:25:13Z

I liked the music and the beautiful drawings of the creatures a lot. Zooming in on the graphics is really worth it! I also like that you found a nice and peaceful mechanic. That's a great thing when so many games would rather go the dave the diver route here where you'd kill the fish instead.

It's a little bit odd that you don't really move as the diver and can just move your screen anywhere, including through walls. In that case: why even include a diver character?

I also had the bug that the purple jellyfish didn't register.

There was a thing that happened where almost all the animals seemed to converge at one point in the map more and more over time.

Planktos by Dabuliaoyidianer 2024-10-18T22:55:26Z

It's nice how atmospheric, comfy, and relaxing your game is. I enjoy the particles and pulsating lighting effects. The music is also beautiful and contributes greatly to the serene atmosphere.

I didn't realize at first that I could collect the green circles after moving through one of the other circles that don't seem to do anything. So I just went all the way to the left until I hit a wall of colourful shapes. Then moved up through what seemed to be the water surface. But I didn't find anything so I went back, to discover that I could actually collect the green circles and that they'd push me back left again when collecting them. Nevertheless I persevered and collected all of them. I was a little let down by nothing happening afterwards but it's fine. Just thought writing down my experience might be somewhat helpful and interesting from a dev perspective. Nice submission <3
