Looked very promising! Hope you'll explore this gamemechanic further. Artstyle is absolute diamond, my favourite.

aruspice 2023-01-09 21:55

That artstyle is stellar, I especially love the little paper doll people

cat-chef 2023-01-09 22:49

yes this is THE game, thank you so much for making it! loved realizing you can't get touched by light, and the bullets being just slow enough you can see them in your face a frame before you die.

aisus 2023-01-09 22:55

Great art style and music! It took me some time to realize why the white tiles are causing damage. Interesting level geometry, maybe could be even cooler on a larger scale

pauljs 2023-01-09 22:56

What a graphic proposition! Congrats! The level design is sometime unclear but the game is awesome, one of the best one i've seen this jam!

matthew-lie 2023-01-09 23:01

F Pressers pay you respect

fallcresthero 2023-01-09 23:03

Feels like a full polished game. Amazing job, thanks for delivering so much fun!

F Pressers pay you respect

depression 2023-01-09 23:07

Pretty retro bro

tinykidtoo 2023-01-09 23:07

I love the art stlye, its very cool. It also is really easy to read for the player. Altough I did have some issues telling which tiles are going to be lit up, having to memorise which ones were lit up. I would love to see this expanded upon.

hawkin 2023-01-09 23:37

What a masterpiece!! This was just a joy to experience, everything from the visual style to the simple but responsive gameplay and the catchy tune. It took me some experimentation in the first level to understand the light and dashing mechanic, but then I was flying through the rest of them. So much fun.

I like that you even included support for people to insert their own level files! I'm sure it was part of how you generated your levels, but it's nice that you exposed it.

I just can't say enough good things about this. Nice job! By the way, I somehow got the game to crash in the first level when I walked up to the house? Maybe unrelated?

jormarysky 2023-01-09 23:49

@hawkin Tuttiankka might better know what causes that crash but sounds weird. Never managed to make it crash, I think you have a bright career as a play tester.

Yeah, if we have our own notepad level format, then why not exposing it! Not expecting people really experiment with it, but it did cost us nothing to make it available.

camden-obertop 2023-01-10 04:46

Such a beautiful game! I've always wanted to make something like this. Creepy theme with the blood harvesting!

hfsevans 2023-01-10 04:51

Probably my favourite game so far. Great art style and perfect for speed running. Really appreciated the puzzle elements. I also really felt like I knew WHY I was playing the game, which is hugely important

svemir 2023-01-10 07:16

Beautiful artwork and music!! Plus the mood is killer, it fits together wonderfully. The gameplay is also great, lots of challenging levels. Very polished too.

rhum 2023-01-10 07:19

Ahah this one was quite nice! Really like the ambiance and the art style! On top of that, you have straightforward and obvious game rules, so I knew what to do without even reading the controls/game description. Good job and good luck on your next game making adventures !

jackypark9852 2023-01-10 07:24

Loved the level design and progression in this game, really enjoyed playing it all the way through. Dashing mechanic makes you feel powerful. Really cool how there were little concepts that you discover along the way, would play a longer game based on this.

avian 2023-01-10 07:49

Adored the art style from the moment I opened the game. Very gritty and dark with good levels of contrast. The gameplay, visuals and audio all came together to create a really unique vibe that I very much enjoyed.

the1 2023-01-10 10:14

Good stuff! The 90s 2.5df fps nostalgia really kicks in :3

korvack 2023-01-10 10:39

Wow... It's wonderful! This is the most beautiful art style I have seen so far! It is very simple to understand and well thought out for speedrun. If you add a more dynamic animation for the attack, it becomes perfect. Nice work! =) Capture d’écran 2023-01-10 113121.png (Yes I died often but it was to try tricks! ^^ )

vasilypupkin 2023-01-10 11:26

incredibly cool game! Top art direction

808074 2023-01-10 11:49

The most fun game yet on this game jam!

jormarysky 2023-01-10 13:22

@avian @korvack Good to see people playing it through!

chaos-1001 2023-01-10 14:56

Amazing entry, Beautiful art and art direction. My favorite this far

emil-akper 2023-01-10 15:50

A very unusual artistic part. Interesting gameplay and thoughtful features. Great job!

martta 2023-01-10 17:08

Onko mahdollista saada Web/Mac buildia?

horda 2023-01-10 17:19

Wow!

- I love the graphics, reminds me of Obra Dinn. - Level design is done well so you can learn the game while playing. - The controls are both dynamic and smooth. - Music and sounds are well designed too.

Everything works well together. Really good take on this one !

jormarysky 2023-01-10 17:27

@martta Forwarded @tutti-ankka Mitä sanot, onnistuisikohan Web?

kita 2023-01-10 18:54

score.png Haha! This kept me entertained more than I thought! Really great game... Takes me back to the old arcade games... This is what I'd call simplicity done right... Really enjoyed it! Great job! (And it even has an option to make your own level?!:O)

mr-sun 2023-01-10 19:33

The game looks amazing! Great music and sfx as well! The final couple levels can get pretty challenging but it's fun Great work! Love it :D

noeloskar 2023-01-10 20:18

No Linux? would be nice to get a build for that, you are allowed to make builds for diffrent platforms post jam btw

feor 2023-01-10 20:32

I'm not gonna win any points for originality but it bears repeating, this game is absolutely gorgeous. Visually, it's the most interesting game I've played in this jam and it's hard to believe all the art was made in only 72 hours. The map design is interesting enough to keep you engaged, and the gameplay is alright if a bit repetitive. My only gripe is with the more 'platformer'-ish aspects of the game, the fact that you can't tilt your head down can make it a bit frustrating (but that could just be me being bad at the game). Very impressive.

pikario 2023-01-10 20:51

Great art style !

It was just sometimes a little confusing about which direction I was facing, also it takes me retries to understand which were the lighted tiles.

But overall, the voices are cool, the idea is great, well done :)

jormarysky 2023-01-10 21:37

Here is my time for those who want to try to beat devs:

Näyttökuva (2688).png

ben-lusted 2023-01-10 23:45

Awesome job! The graphics are simple yet very easy to read and things pop nicely! I had a lot of fun playing this one! Well done

sonicpixelation 2023-01-10 23:58

The pacing of the expanding feature set was really nice. Just as the came started to feel simple something new was added or at least made clear.

jajakeim 2023-01-10 23:59

Love the mood, the gameplay is simple but effective, great entry!

daitli 2023-01-11 03:27

I loved the artstyle of this game. It was very pleasing to the eye and it reminded me of my old favorite games so thank you for that :)

zuwu 2023-01-11 03:39

Really cool, I loved the graphics and the mood, seriously cool!

orhu 2023-01-11 03:42

Neat game! The art style was super eye-catching and compelling and the music compliments it well. I had a little trouble with some of the mechanics, but eventually got the hang of it. This is also a really interesting subversion of the theme. Nice work!

joshedev 2023-01-11 05:45

Love the way the art is both stylish and informative. And I'm a sucker for those crunched voice lines. I'm sure this would be a really fun one for speedrunners w/ mapping out the levels, the timers on the lights, things you can bypass with dash, enemy routes. Amazing work!

lerg 2023-01-11 11:17

Looks really cool, can't play but can you upload a video of the playtrough?

jormarysky 2023-01-11 11:35

@lerg Enduring Soldier made playthrough, so we don't have to. Check it out: https://youtu.be/Anv1m9BsrME

renneberg 2023-01-11 12:25

Great stuff, loved to artstyle

she-wrote 2023-01-11 13:30

It is a bit hard to dash over a ledge, or not stay in the light, when you can't see your feet, and the attack feels a bit short sometimes; but the core gameplay is fun and creative, and the art and colors are great! Well done!

efilheim 2023-01-11 13:47

Damn, that's a awesome entry! The art is stunning, the controls are perfects and the concept is easy to understand.

I enjoyed how you mananged to add new mechanics at each levels.

Good job!

jormarysky 2023-01-11 14:08

@she-wrote Thanks for the feedback. There were some last minute changes for dash logic to fix some bugs, that made it bit harder. It used to feel better. Attack for sure is bit on the short side, it was made that way so you cant easily kill NPCs standing on light without taking damage. Makes it feel bit bad I agree. Those cyan characters try to escape into light when they spot you (scared state).

lila-pause 2023-01-11 14:30

Very very nice. I played through the whole game!

tildecat 2023-01-11 16:36

Very nice visual stylization! Maybe the ability to move the camera slightly up and down would be good, but overall it's cool game!

nick-saulnier 2023-01-11 18:33

Awesome work! Super fun, cool take on the theme, and the art is really beautiful.

javasaurus 2023-01-11 19:39

This is so cool ! Brings back my first experiences in FPS (DOOM, Wolfenstein 3D, ...). Amazing ! I hope you continue this project and add some more dynamics to it (see comments above), but for a 72 hour game? Sheesh !

pokopish 2023-01-11 19:55

Very cool looking game! Only real gripe I have is that the music doesn't seem to fit the rest of the game's theme, unless that was done on purpose.. Really good effort!

maytch 2023-01-11 23:20

That's an impressive number of levels implemented in that timeframe. I like the fast-paced nature to it and the satisfying pops when you hit someone. I also like how you made the 2d sprites 3d instead of billboards.

kilirane 2023-01-12 00:34

I loved it ! The fast-paced gameplay focused on speedrunning and path optimization is really super enjoyable. Graphics and music work great. Great concept!

iesnihs 2023-01-12 09:03

The DA is amazing, gg it's a pretty nice work. I will try hard the speed-run with my friends ^^

jormarysky 2023-01-12 10:11

@iesnihs Don't forget to post your best times here!

jelliott 2023-01-12 10:33

Black and white (mostly) and dithering hell yeahhhhhhhhh. And crunchy sound effects. And intuitive gameplay.

Got really fun a few levels in when I realised it's designed for speed running. 58 deaths, 281 seconds.

noeloskar 2023-01-12 14:13

Okay so i played the game through wine, and well it's really cool, i got some lags though, which was weird but could just be caused by running it in wine, i like the idea, and the graphics, but i feel like the level could be diffrent color than the player hand, it blends too much imo, and is kinda confusing on the eyes

rickylee 2023-01-12 14:18

Holy hell this is fantastic! ^^ my score \o/

image_2023-01-12_141248014.png

My score is skewed though cos I skipped a level, I died in the town but instead of "restart lvl" it said "next level" and I went to a later level in a field, don't know if it actually was the next lvl.

Looking forward to more games from you guys, this was great ^^

jonqs 2023-01-12 15:05

Wow amazing job ! Love the visuals, i had in mind a similar art style ([inspired by this guy]( https://twitter.com/helpcomputer0/status/1611135374650122244?s=20&t=JVzjg9QmKj-KSvluSP6T3A)) but didn't manage to nail it, you totally did. The level design is also very smart. Honeslty the best game i played so far. Congrats !

jormarysky 2023-01-12 18:50

@rickylee Thanks for the bug report. After Queen Faith's blind run where they experienced same bug,Tutti Ankka was able to explain the bug. Is it probable that you were dashing at the direction of goal while dying? If so, it might be because player kept going on after death and finished level. So you launched your dead body in goal and gained access to next level. I would not call that skewed results, that is some genius speedrunning tactics.

jonas-tyroller 2023-01-12 21:55

Very enjoyable difficulty curve and perfect length for a comfi game jam play-though. Very nice experience. Well done.

yaen 2023-01-12 21:57

Lots of fun, this one! I love the aesthetics, especially that bit crushed voice sound!

danmerey 2023-01-13 00:36

Pretty nice retro-shooter-like game, although with some issues:

- Some sounds are too unpleasant (like ticking of you health). - Animation of reaping is too simple, could be done much more satisfying. - Ghosts models had some artifacts. - Camera rotation lock doesn't feel well in 21 century. I'd suggest you to let players see around them in all directions. It's not Doom 1.

In general – interesting experience and seems like a complete game. Good job!

thyoi 2023-01-13 18:17

Impressive style. The music, the atmosphere was perfect.

On the third level I kept getting killed by the white ground and I think there was some misdirection because there was a path straight through the white ground.

wouter52 2023-01-13 18:35

Whouw this one was awesome! I'm a sucker for these kinds of raycasting style games. The color palette is very well done! Some feedback

- I did not really know that the white tiles were deadly before. I thought I encountered some kind of bug - I think the background music is very nice, but it does not go well with the dark nature of this game

I have nothing else to say. I think we have a winner here.

Edit: first I did not know why you choose L, M & B as attack buttons. And then it hit me... That stands for LeftMouseButton :'-)

jormarysky 2023-01-13 18:58

@thyoi @wouter52 Thanks for the feedback. Third level is the one that teaches you that white ground (light) is hazardous for you, being vampire and all. It is game's novelty feature and later levels are built around the feature. Path goes right through on purpose so you walk through the light and learn it kills. It is very transparent kind of tutorial, we did not want to put any text on screen telling you what you are supposed to do. We will implement red screen flash for taking damage post jam, to make it more clear and less "bug" feeling

Is not LMB kind of standard abbreviation for left mouse button? I thought so, though you are not first one who did not got it. Might have to update wording in future jams.

yogurtthehorse 2023-01-13 19:07

Very beatiful art, though some antialiasing would make eye hurt a bit less x)

jormarysky 2023-01-13 19:13

@yogurtthehorse We disabled it cause it caused some artifacts on transparent objects. Might be just because there is no proper padding on canvas. But oh well, you can only do so much during 72 hours and complicating UV mapping was not high on priority list.

Antialisointi.png

yogurtthehorse 2023-01-13 19:19

@jormarysky yeah, i totally understand, that's fine for ludum entry

tygrak 2023-01-13 19:33

Love the visuals! Feel like this game could be super fun for speedruns which is cool too.

Kiva! Hyvä työ. Se oli hauskaa. Minä rakastan "visuals" teidän pelassa. (Olen Tšekilainen, mutta oppin suomea :) )

jormarysky 2023-01-13 19:35

@tygrak Osaat jo ihan hyvin!

mr-field 2023-01-13 20:08

like everyone else has said, a really beautiful voxel-ish looking style & simple and fun gameplay.

I think a little more leniency with falling off ledges / getting caught in the light and perhaps an alert sound / extra initial time before shooting for those with guns would go a long way to help make the fast gameplay style feel a little more smooth.

Great work!

score.png

landberglife 2023-01-13 20:50

Great submission! The art was fantastic! The range characters made the game a lot more fun. I would have liked to be able to change the mouse sensitivity. It was insanely high and made it significantly harder. After each level I didn't really know if I had made a good time or not. A "possible best time" or bronze/ silver/ gold after each level would be an excellent addition to an already great play. Keep up the good work, see you next jam :)

jormarysky 2023-01-13 20:56

@landberglife Pageup/Pagedown changes sensitivity.

Thanks for the suggestion. You are in luck, cause earlier today we discussed about what we want to show in intermission screen, and "par time" were one of em.

landberglife 2023-01-13 21:02

@jormarysky It even said so in the main menu.... I'll give it another try once the par time is added. I got a total of 350 in my run, but im guessing it can be done alot faster .)

automatonvx 2023-01-14 01:04

Wow, great atmoshpere and vibe, the insane art style, the eerie bleepy music loop that somehow also fits the visual and even the harsh crushed voice sound fx that fits also. The actual gameplay is fine too, I didn't read the description so I liked that it took me a little while to understand what was happening and why i kept dying, reminded me of playing games in the 80s that would just dump you in a weird world that you had to make sense of, with no hand holding, this also fits with the bizzare retro graphics. Great experience overall, this is exactly the kind of weird gem that makes game jams so much fun. Thanks

pyspher9 2023-01-14 04:42

This game is great. The art style is iconic. The 2D in a 3D world and having pretty much everything in black and white was captivating to watch. It really forced me to see the depth and texture of the world. Not to mention, the fact that you added the ability to add your own levels is not only innovative but visionary!

lintfordpickle 2023-01-14 14:15

A really nice entry - the artstyle just sets the game apart -well done

ozzzim 2023-01-14 16:18

This has a good shot at becoming a full fledged game, which is probably the highest praise you can give a gamejam game

almax 2023-01-14 23:52

It goes without saying - amazing art style. Gameplay loop was solid too with an impressive number of levels. One of the best games I've played so far!

sakura-magika 2023-01-15 03:39

this has gotta be one of the coolest looking LD submissions i've ever seen! i've never felt called to make 3D games, but seeing this game makes me feel like i could try it, designing with a sort of 3D world 2D asset hybrid.

i love both your visual style and level design sense, especially the use of dithering and color. gameplay is the perfect balance of simplicity and engaging.

the fact that you even support custom levels is just crazy for a jam!

main feedback would be that i don't think the BGM really fits the atmosphere, i would have gone with something more atmospheric, eerie, and moody, less rhythmic and up beat. but that's just a personal sensibility, the way it is now feels like it would be right at home in a 1980s arcade cabinet.

jormarysky 2023-01-15 08:58

@sakura-magika Seems like music been most controversial part of our game. Personally I dont see game really as trad horror theme, you are the bad guy after all. He is just jamming as he harvest the crop, it is his victims that listen Dunkelheit.

That support for custom levels is really just support for levels. That is how we made all the official ones. Screenshot_20230115-104810_Docs.jpg Just bunch of numbers on text file.

In post jam/future jams you are able to create those levels with real tool. Working on universal graphical .txt level editor that requires none integration to the game, making possible its use even in jams that disallow using existing code Cant be arsed to go back to notepad.

2023-01-15 10:08

Amazing art style!!!

pcmaster 2023-01-15 14:56

Very well executed. Love the humour. Love the simple mechanics. Love the graphics. And the page up/down mouse sensitivity setting, duuuude. Reminded me of the 1997 game Blood. So polished, epic, congratz!

jormarysky 2023-01-15 15:21

@pcmaster It is nice of you to notice that, humour rating been dragging behind everything else. I guess it is pretty subtle in our game compared to some of the dedicated humour games, that many don't notice that most of the things in game are or contains joke. Premise of game is really just one bad joke, being game about toothless vampyre.

big-cyckos 2023-01-15 16:55

Great! The base mechanic gives a lot of fun, wish it took the idea even further. Audiovisuals are so consistent.

ginxel 2023-01-15 17:45

Really interesting art style!

pcmaster 2023-01-15 17:59

@jormarysky I can't grasp how anyone would NOT rate your game particularly in the humour category, they must be dry inside :P Cheers and keep such jewels comin'!

octopulse 2023-01-15 23:20

Really like the artstyle ! congrat' you got great material there :)

stephenwhoskins 2023-01-16 03:44

Oh my god. This is such a good game! I really want to see an entire game in this art style now! I looooooove it!

strega 2023-01-16 06:24

Awesome 3D first person game! I liked the aesthetic you guys achieved, well done! The game kind of has a speed runnable quality to it. I could see people optimizing routes with dashes. I fell into holes pretty early, but maybe that was to help teach about them. I wish there was a way to tune the camera sensitivity, I definitely over shot my turns a lot.

jormarysky 2023-01-16 08:44

@strega Thanks for your kind words. Pageup/Pagedown adjust mouse sensitivity.

strega 2023-01-16 09:16

@jormarysky ah, I should have read the instructions on the page more closely!

elmoeinstein 2023-01-16 09:32

Wow the art and aesthetic on this game is very nice. It reminds me of Adventure time kind of with the music style as well. This is very impressive and quite fun.

matank 2023-01-16 15:16

Really cool art and gameplay! I'm glad I've been persistent because some of the later level designs are really good.

annie-owl 2023-01-16 16:47

Great game! The gameplay is very fun and addictive. No matter how many times I've died, I wanted to go again (upbeat music definitely helps with that) Finished the game in 47 deaths in the end. Also loved the visuals - they give the game a very distinct look.

caeonosphere 2023-01-16 21:12

Great aesthetic, lots of well designed levels. Enjoyed the Y-only rotation, it added to the feel you were going for. The dash feels a little wonky, but I got used to it. 'Til next time...

koboldskeep 2023-01-17 03:49

Excellent art style, slick gameplay. Awesome entry!

jormarysky 2023-01-17 08:16

@caeonosphere Yup, last minute bugfixes made dash bit weird. Used to feel better.

niterich 2023-01-19 15:00

Amazing game! Loved the DOS-style presentation to everything, it was a real blast to play! I especially liked being able to control mouse sensitivity on the fly with PgUp and PgDn, I thought that was a really nice touch!

bubug 2023-01-19 15:46

The black and white color scheme really adds to the creepiness of the whole experience. Had fun, really cool entry.

weefairyfabi 2023-01-19 17:11

This is an amazing looking game! It definitely reminded me of Doom and similar games and I loved the vibe! You really paid a lot of attention to smaller details like the mute button and the ability to add your own levels is pretty neat! Amazing entry

jormarysky 2023-01-19 17:49

@weefairyfabi Heh, I think it was just Elmeri getting tired of listening same loop three days in row

hayricakir 2023-01-21 00:04

Gameplay is fun, graphics are cool. Good job mate!

dock-frankenstein 2023-01-24 15:12

Amazing artstyle and sound design. I really love games that make those doom styled first person view hands holding 2d pngs instead of models. The game is really fun to play. Good job

alex-de-la-cour 2023-01-24 20:52

I loved this! The art and the music and audio were just perfect, and I liked how the game got more challenging as the levels progressed - I died a ton on that penultimate level! A cracking submission, well done.
