LD52 — Harvest

Elonkorjuu - Live Harvest by Tutti Ankka 2023-01-09T22:49:25Z

yes this is THE game, thank you so much for making it! loved realizing you can't get touched by light, and the bullets being just slow enough you can see them in your face a frame before you die.

The Moonlit Harvest by WedgeMcCloud 2023-01-13T07:23:10Z

Oh, this looks like one night: werewolf, maybe my friends would like to try it. I would love more information about how many players it takes and if there needs to be a storyteller like in mafia...

The Harvester by 0x01F0 2023-01-14T18:47:51Z

Cool puzzle game with a lot of content! Found a lot of the writing to be comical which helped cut the macabre heaviness of the subject matter. I like to provide a piece of constructive criticism w my comments, but I notice the doubling of the entries was already caught, so maybe I'll say some of the entries gave me whiplash -- very few were straightforward deaths, many were like "car accident" ok "in a phone booth" oh? or like "died of poisoning" ok "after being stabbed by 20 forks" what? I think it added cool flavor and made the puzzle more interesting, but if I had to recommend a change I'd say adding in more straightforward deaths so the interesting ones felt more special. But again, this feedback is coming mostly from my desire to give constructive criticism (and I'm struggling to find anything tbh! cheers), and maybe if there were more normal deaths the game would've showcased less interesting scenarios and been more boring overall.

Some of these deaths were so wacky it had me wondering if there was an underlying conspiracy or story to be found, but nothing jumped out at me. Some other stray things I appreciated - graylisting people on the death book to help keep track of process of elimination, the weird gusto of ai saul goodman, music choice to match theme and "triumph" music when you get a good organ, unique writing. Good job on this game!!

Bittersweet Harvest by moonlightbomber 2023-01-24T03:07:48Z

Really like this idea, super unique take on harvest! While I appreciated the attention to detail with the menu, options, and the excellent feeling of the user interface -- not to mention the ambience of the backgrounds and music, and the expressive artwork--I just wish I could've traded some of that to have played further into the story!!!!

My greed for more story aside, this is a very thought provoking hook! I think my favorite dialogue line was probably the player character's kinship with the coffeemaker "doing its job," very human writing. I hope you are able to find a resolution to this story in the next game jam! Cheers

Last Harvest by mahalis 2023-01-13T05:08:49Z

Wow, the ambience is chefs kiss here! Really appreciated the subtle curvature of the fields... also I like that the mechanics of the game are simple enough you don't really need a tutorial or anything, just one control, and the "press anything reasonable" made me lol

only criticism is I was able to fall out of the world, breaking the game loop, which I assume means my farmer decided the deal with death wasn't worth it and preferred a free-falling purgatory haha. Overall, amazing work, especially considering it was for the compo! cheers

Galactic Garden by MartensCedric 2023-01-09T21:06:14Z

Cool take on the theme! The characters were very cute!

CharacteRiser by alexhonor 2023-01-14T19:28:09Z

Engaged all the way thru the end! I like that there's no explanation for the special abilities you can spell, it was really rewarding to figure out the puzzle of this game. The sound effects were appropriate and kept things juicy, and it felt great to finally buy the N! Perfect little game, well done

Goblin Sylvester the Mighty Harvester by Shess 2023-01-09T20:10:07Z

Was very confused at first, because the button in the top left was outside of my window for some reason, but was pleased to find a funny game that made me feel extremely confident I was going to die (in the game)

Horn of Abundance by fusionnist 2023-01-13T18:29:20Z

Ah!!! Got to 212, might try again to beat 214.... Learning how the upgrades work does help a lot with the strategy, although I haven't figured out why it feels enemies spawn faster than other playthroughs, does it have to do with how often you use the power mode with the mouse?

The looser aesthetic approach to harvest with gameplay having nothing to do with farming has been a delightful reprieve, one of my favorites so far:) Beautiful accomplishment for a solo dev in 48 hours, congratulations!!!

The Ballad of Eric Hernandez, Cattle Rancher by GeraldFIngBurke 2023-01-24T05:14:32Z

The music reminded me of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, fitting considering that the word on the street is this game will find permanent residence post-jam at the MOMA's special collections wing. I could only find two of the secret endings but will persevere to find them all. Mooving experience, 5 stars!

Alice Redux by gamebuilder 2023-01-24T04:42:38Z

What an intriguing riddle of a game! This is honestly a huge accomplishment for 25 hrs, And using different scaling on the plants was an intriguing way to make a few assets feel like a forest, resulting in a really unique aesthetic. Also lovely guitar at the end, although I agree the harvest/out of seeds pings were a little sharp. Lovely game, thank you for making it and sharing it!!!

Bogged by InfinitySamurai 2023-01-08T04:06:58Z

Hi! I love this concept! Did you know cranberry harvesters often get absolutely covered with spiders when collecting in the cranberry bogs? Just a little fun fact for you:)

Also, I wish the time limit was a little longer so I could collect more berries! Good job!

Bogged by InfinitySamurai 2023-01-09T11:26:57Z

The spiders are here!!!!! Love that they aren't enemies, and also the detail of the cranberry coloration. great work!!

Bogged by InfinitySamurai 2023-01-09T20:01:17Z

ah every time I play this game it gets better!thanks for the kind interactions on my first ludum dare 😌 Also props to whoever made the music, the last bar or two of the loop go insane

Reap What You Sow by Hare Software 2023-01-13T06:03:57Z

Great game! Planning to show it to some friends who I think would like it... The AI and voiceovers were a great touch, and I appreciated the occasional pitching of the vocals to add ~flavor~, although i wish they were a little less processed as I can't always comprehend what they're saying.

Also loved the attention to detail with the art! Is it a little crow sitting on the rock? Just lovely!! Thanks so much for submitting such a cool game!

Pulling Teeth by Deprecat 2023-01-09T21:45:57Z

Came here because of your thoughtful feedback, and wow! I'm really impressed you made a two separate games essentially for day and night, what a cool concept! Loved the attention to detail with the particle effects being little teeth, and I was genuinely happy for this little gremlin when they got to retire. Also wow, what visceral sound effects...

I was wondering, do the shirts of the children always correspond to what candy they choose, or is it just a preference? Sometimes kids would show up with a chocolate shirt but when I tried to give them that candy they'd make off with something else... maybe they are just being fashionable or something. Anyways, well done!

My Bloody Harvest by vivek.sharma20 2023-01-13T06:24:11Z

Very cute arcade concept! I enjoyed the directness of the game and was quickly drawn into a zen-like worm-blasting state. Might have been something specific to my run, but when I got to 0 lives, the game continued without giving me a "you lose" screen or anything like that, but I might've just been confused. Congratulations on completing it as a solo dev!!!

Menagerie Street by Evan Charfauros 2023-01-10T21:23:29Z

Thanks for all the feedback everybody! Something important about the gameplay: No dialogue options will ever be locked, even if you anger a neighbor. The mystery will always be there for you to uncover. Good luck finding the good ending!

Menagerie Street by Evan Charfauros 2023-01-15T16:55:24Z

@adrien-tremblay unless you can find irrefutable evidence, it's up to your interpretation which neighbor(s) you believe:) Good luck tracking down your berries!!

@roroto-sic @yellowkamel @svenerik @zach-hsu @eddrw @orhu thanks for the love for the music!! Had a blast making it for this world

Menagerie Street by Evan Charfauros 2023-01-15T17:08:03Z

@zungryware Thanks so much for taking the time to beat the game and leave such a lovely comment--sounds like you had more or less the arc we intended! Unfortunately we didn't have time to implement an obra dinn / golden idol type deduction confirmation system, but hopefully the detective work to get to the end felt satisfying:) Our focus was making characters that were exciting to learn about, so really glad to hear you enjoyed them! Also lovely to get a comment from one of my favorite fellow text investigation jam creators ;) loved ur game

Menagerie Street by Evan Charfauros 2023-01-15T17:10:28Z

@matank Thank you as well for taking the time to beat our game, and hope sharing it with your daughter was an enjoyable experience!! Warms my heart to hear you enjoyed the characters and story. Writing so many characters felt like a big risk with the small timeframe, so I'm really glad to hear it payed off for you! Appreciate your comment and your time, good luck in the jam<3

Subnautilus by Guldfisk 2023-01-27T20:04:52Z

Banger art style, I gave it five stars:) There are a lot of mechanics here, well done! I'm impressed you fit so much in with the short dev time

Hector the Apothecary by Daxic 2023-01-13T18:54:27Z

Wow, one of the most beautiful games I've played in the jam! You packed a lot of content, and I agree that I wish it was more difficult, but nonetheless an enjoyable experience.

One thing I was confused about was the items, why don't you get to keep them throughout the run? I wish they had more impact on the game, like maybe the eye lets you see thorn cards, or the scythe lets you pick more than 5 cards, etc... just wish there was a bit more strategy there. I think out of all the games I've played, this one makes me feel the most like I want to experience development of the game which speaks a lot to its promise!

Night Harvest by EvilScotsman 2023-01-13T07:32:56Z

Only played for about 10 seconds, but really chill and relaxing wheat harvesting sim!

Night Harvest by EvilScotsman 2023-01-13T07:34:36Z

Ok actually tho I found this art style and concept super unsettling!! The way the field just... keeps going... and you have to get it all done before you can sleep... the combine harvester breaking down, it being the only source of light, not being able to see past a couple yards.... With more development I could see this game being a very effective horror piece! Nice job!

Night Harvest by EvilScotsman 2023-01-25T07:31:39Z

@szieberth-adam oh yeah I was being sarcastic this game scared the pants off me -- insane atmosphere, I loved it

Shape Orchard by Binney 2023-01-15T17:29:24Z

Wow! Loved this experience. Great tribute to our guy Wassily, but also so so so pleased to see you take your own spin on the style and make something that is your own. Really powerful artistic accomplishment here, congratulations and thanks for sharing such a cool game!!! cheers:)

Harvest "Harvest Simulator" Simulator by spyranteros 2023-01-27T19:35:03Z

hehe fellow harvest theme hater this game is sick! Love the music and the juicyness of hitting a bomb, and I actually think the controls being unusual added a lot of interest and challenge! Well done:)

Farmer Rabbit's Wild Ride by joyrev 2023-01-27T19:56:37Z

Enjoyed this! Interesting that the power ups don't last very long, but that power you get briefly from picking up a couple lightning bolts feels really great! Cool to see a game with an acoustic soundtrack, I think the guitar maybe could've been a little bit more in tune but maybe this was an intentional sound, either way I think the arrangement fits the game and mood well. Great job!

Oasis of Souls by Forik 2023-01-13T05:44:08Z

First LD game to lag my PC, haha! Really liked the use of a fixed camera to make expansive level design that was still extremely legible! Also adored the cryptic approach to the story, and the abrupt ending. Powerful game!

I am left wondering, what is being harvested? Am I harvested? Is harvest intended as a misdirect, leading to a twist ending? Either way, I hope to have dreams exactly like this jam. Well done!!

Disorder by Zykra 2023-01-14T09:25:54Z

I like this game! fun embrace of chaos.

I had a bit of trouble when the difficulty spike when immovable blocks are introduced -- I'm guessing the solution is {spoilers} you need to push blocks into the thin halls to dislodge the blocks therein {/spoilers} but with the placement of the hallways its pretty challenging, especially with all the blocks crowding the corner. Kinda wish running out of time would make you restart the level or move to the next one. Otherwise though, I like the concept a lot, and like others agree that the color changes and filters when dashing look sick. Great accomplishment, congratulations!!

Crypt Caper by Asieke 2023-01-09T20:36:22Z

I want to eat this aesthetic. The music was also very pretty! love the vision!

Under Cow-ver by cbab 2023-01-13T18:06:47Z

This is a really strong entry! I think the best ludum dare submissions are good at consolidating mechanics so more can get accomplished, here I think combining your objective (the crops) and your cover from vision spheres lead to really tense gameplay and interesting maps! Hats off for that idea.

My one criticism is that there doesn't seem to be a win condition that I've found, but the gameplay still felt exciting and juicy. Congratulations on such a good game!

Harvestigator: An IRS Tax Auditing Game by crow_seeds 2023-01-24T04:32:18Z

Wow what a banger of a game!!!! I can't believe I managed to die..... Love that there are happy/sad reactions from the various auditees, and that they bluster while you go through their paperwork... You guys really went the extra mile with this game and it pays off big time! In addition to the writing, music, art, and humor being excellent, I also found the infinite audit mode to be just an enjoyable game to speed through! Amazing work all around, thanks so much for making the funniest game I've played this jam!!!!!! Cheers <3<3<3

There Was A Day by T90. 2023-01-24T02:47:57Z

Wow, gave me chills. I don't really like Tchaikovsky much, but the nutcracker suited this piece to a T. Perfectly matched the songs to the scenes--especially entering the greenhouse, and the perfect timing for that sobering crescendo of an ending. A great accomplishment, thank you for sharing this story with us!!!

Soul Gardener by taikinaaa 2023-01-09T20:27:40Z

I grew two as well! Honestly wish I could've grown my cute little garden longer. Fun game!

Harvester Inc. by OffDutyExtractors 2023-01-13T07:14:16Z

Wow you were able to accomplish so much with this! Interested in learning more about the world (apparently Baton Rouge is an active warzone..?) But not sure how much of that was intentional and how much was just something the AI spit out hehe.

If you were to develop it more, I thought it was cool that each person has their network of friends, and would love to see that used as a mechanic more, in this game it seemed mostly flavor.

My biggest criticism is (and maybe I'm just a bad dataminer)--after buying the email, I wasn't able to recoup funds fast enough to make a profit and ended up losing by the timer. Would love the option to amass more money, explore more and with more tools, and maybe have more specific data to collect like political affiliation. But, for the time limit, this was a great concept executed well! Also, cool to see a fellow game go with the "harvesting information" theme ;)

Boxed In by BurnsDesigns 2023-01-14T07:18:05Z

I think this may be the only truly idle game on LD this time... seemed appropriate you can just watch Racer McTavish and the DVD logo chase each other around. Like @nikitavychuz, I noticed the DVD logo gets an evil expression when close... This made me so happy to realize! Fun and addicting. Good job!!

Boxed In by BurnsDesigns 2023-01-14T09:37:41Z

Update--just watched the game run for a while (which included a thrilling run where McTavish almost got to 5 circuits!! better than any of my intentional scores lol) and noticed the DVD guys eyes also follow you? So many great details and polish in this game, exceptional job

30 Days With Thiiis Guy by Beeb GameCodeCompany 2023-01-15T17:50:46Z

Loved it--This is probably the only game I've found with extensive voice acting, congrats! The audio probably would've benefitted from a pop filter, but the voice acting was very lively and made me chuckle a couple of times -- especially the lampshading line of "Kinda feels like I say the same things everyday..." Also for some reason the delivery of "More water. Greaat." killed me. I was doing a perfect run but was kind of excited to kill the tomato in a subsequent run, but then the (spoilers) happened and I was actually sad when I killed the tomato:( Played again to the end and had an enjoyable time playing! Thanks for this fun wholesome entry, good job!!!

30 Days With Thiiis Guy by Beeb GameCodeCompany 2023-01-19T05:50:24Z

@beeb-gamecodecompany it absolutely did make it stand out for me! Your delivery and comedic timing were exceptional, and the quantity of dialogue implemented without bugs is a huge achievement. Hope to see more voice acting in future games c:

Calorie Crunch by Sean Esopenko 2023-01-25T01:01:20Z

Really liked this experience, and it played perfectly on my phone too which was a cool surprise! The sound design was very juicy and the artwork for the crops was probably my favorite part, I was especially charmed by the fried egg plant.

I wish there was something that could be done to remove toxic sludge, I would often feed a character several at a time just to clear then out. I quickly went to a strategy of filling the entire screen with crops to try to block out those cute alien guys, which was fun to figure out. Also i found most of the recipes intuitive except for dumpling, never figured out what carb you were supposed to use / what the filling might have been....

Altogether a very well put together game with lovely art, polish, and gamefeel! Well done guys:^)

Forget-Me-Not: Harvesting Memories by eddrw 2023-01-09T20:18:22Z

This art style is really charming! Unfortunately my inventory got filled up with salt and got stuck in the oven, but hoping to play again and get farther!

Organ-ized Crime by ZungryWare 2023-01-10T11:04:54Z

Got to New Zealand! Enjoyed taking my marks on strolls to explore the maps, level 9 in particular was really cool! Loved the music jargon and the time the player character mentions his profession but the npc doesnt notice. The different systems and dialogue options come together to make some tricky puzzles and I enjoyed finding the solutions! Great work!

Chaos Mode by vacuum_packed 2023-01-09T22:17:24Z

We've all been there. Love that you can step on the untrademarked vacuum machine to make it stop for a moment. Five stars

Final Harvest by GreyNovemberGames 2023-01-13T05:23:30Z

Wow, monumental accomplishment here! I like that instead of a timer, you depicted the weather growing colder and colder... very effective tension as I scrambled for my last items! (I survived) Glad you uploaded the more finished game in addition to the actual entry so we could see it all:) Again, amazing job! Would love to see a full length game in this style!

Dream Reaper by Orhu 2023-01-09T21:21:47Z

ooh the puzzles start getting super zesty when you get the scythe! Appreciated the animation on the door phase too, well executed game!!

Harvest of Love by Mariavalcam 2023-01-24T04:54:24Z

A wholesome game with a bit of a bite at the end! Great work on crafting three unique characters! Congrats on finishing your first ludum dare, this is a great entry! Thanks for making such a charming, tender game and for sharing it with us.

It is not time to harvest by Wolfraam1974 2023-01-13T06:39:26Z

Impressed by the variety of traps you made in the short timespan! Really excellent feeling, the monochrome was a perfect fit. I agree with previous criticisms about the hitboxes making the game feel unfair, but that's understandable with the time limit. Couldn't beat the game myself, but would love to see the whole level design!

Also, found an interesting bug where crouching meant you were immune to arrows, even if they shot directly at you. Congrats on submitting such an aesthetically polished and vibey game!

gatherAI by Keksls 2023-01-09T20:59:49Z

My favorite take on the theme so far! Also, I've never seen a game expand out the way this one did in the first couple of minutes.... Definitely give it a try! Wish it was less grindy, maybe I'm missing the point but i seem to need an infinite amount of green grass to progress...

Alien Fruit Harvest by kossnocorp 2023-01-09T22:06:21Z

begging you to make more small stupid games, this was a delight! Also, the pain of missing that one jump.......... sdghsdga

Garden of Eldritch Delights by autumnmnmn 2023-01-15T17:19:58Z

Wow!!! This game is a visual FEAST -- Can't believe how much content and systems you could fit in, from multiple playable characters to the kaleidoscopic menu screen... I am a little bit confused about if I'm successfully planting seeds / how points are made, but maybe it will be more clear if I find someone to play against co-op. Amazing work!

BLOOD HARVEST by drowsy 2023-01-24T05:08:42Z

wow I'm in LOVE with the music, especially how it grows more mysterious and choral when you go into the back rooms. Atmosphere is A+. I'm also amazed with how many mechanics you could fit into this game, but sometimes I got confused with which barrels needed to be done in what order, but I think this was solved pretty effectively by actually showing the blood flow in the pipes... excellent detail by the way:) Well done!!!

Human Harvest by Gregormack 2023-01-09T21:11:34Z

Wow this art is so polished! Great job!

Xenorp Replacement Surgery by DungenRobot 2023-01-13T06:12:20Z

Deeply cursed (lovingly)

the instructions did make me actually laugh. The player character did about as well as I would've in the situation! Kudos for not making a farm game, this is a gem
