LD50 — Delay the inevitable

PRO TAX SLACKER by pcmaster 2022-04-17T16:27:29Z

More Tax Games! I went with the same theme!

At first I didnt understand what was the point, as I went straight for the taxes, then another run I ironed and made the bed. Then I thought "Darnit, I could procrastinate more!" and kept going to sort out the correct combination. I was cleverly lured into playing more!

H U N T E D by xk_the_name 2022-04-13T21:09:12Z

I was going to play one last game before bed... Unfortunately it was yours and I lost SO MUCH SLEEP! I played this for a LONG time. It's so hard, but really rewarding.

I read through the encyclopedia (I am unsure why it is yellow when choosing equipment. Perhaps since its part tutorial and part item?) But either way, that gave me so many ideas on load-outs to try.

I never really got too far, but I really enjoyed the gameplay. It's a dreary-dark Oregon Trail!

Picnic Calamity by XenosNS 2022-04-11T14:50:50Z

It looks like you scoped well for a weekend and made a complete project. Any jam game that can deliver that is a success in my eyes!

The Extraterrestial Farm Enterprise by Aggrathon 2022-04-21T15:20:41Z

Wo. I needed 1 or 2 runs to grasp all the different tools available and how they worked, but once I saw the system, I had a lot of fun.

Intense Gardening.

MineCraftMine by automatonvx 2022-04-15T09:38:48Z

As mentioned, the player controller seems to have lag if you only tap the input. My expectation would be to move 1 tile if I tap the key, and keep moving tiles if I hold it down. It seems to have per-pixel movement, but in such a strict grid that isn't as helpful, as being only a half-tile in a direction you still cannot move if blocked by a dirt tile.

I'd either move to a movement system that moves full tiles, or add a lot of movement smoothing for edges, so if the player is a few pixels off, they can still move around corners.

Nicely done! And proc gen in a game jam?! Wow!

Where do you go after you win by ded 2022-04-05T19:40:31Z

Wow, I was not impressed initially, but after discovering the additional... stuff? My jaw dropped. VERY VERY Clever.

Boulder Rush by SaraMartins 2022-04-13T16:31:42Z

The throw over is a great idea. Picking up objects was pretty difficult and also tripped me. But I liked the idea!

All Will Be Dust by Matt Heinrich 2022-04-17T16:35:04Z

Great jam entry! Needs more audio effects for shooting, robots hurt and destroy. Additionally, the music could use a bit extra length, as it repeats quite often. The mood was absolutely terrific and art was great for a weekend!

The Ribbit by omer1615 2022-04-17T16:31:04Z

It's almost a zen game or rhythm game! I just get lost in A and D keys with this frog!

Cabbage Crashers by UnitedFailures 2022-04-05T20:01:26Z

Like everyone else, I got into it a lot! I farmed cabbage for longer than I'd like to admit. But still not as long as the guy with the 38,000lbs cabbage lol.

Pachinko is Life by Don Fouts 2022-04-11T16:54:48Z

So strange. I love that.

Official Planetologist by DaleP 2022-04-13T16:39:17Z

Wow, the idea has so much promise! I enjoyed the game and kept rebooting to strategize a little differently. With more tutorial, balance, etc this would be super fun

Across Death Street by Jonathan Lorenz 2022-04-17T16:14:58Z

I think an adjustment I'd make is moving the camera more forward from the vehicle. Giving more sight ahead. Although that'd diminish sight of your little human horde. So, perhaps play with camera facing and offset to see what feels right.

I never knew I'd enjoy a game playing as a deadly shopping cart! Awesome!

Zombie, M.D. by Starr_Fighter05 2022-04-17T18:17:07Z

Camera work would improve this quite a bit! Either having the player more centered, or pushed out in the direction of movement. I also wonder what it would be like to have a fixed camera of the whole room, i.e. no hidden information, but working much more to manage zombies. It's an idea, something to try if you want to keep working on the project!

I had a good time throwing bottles at my coworkers!

DIZT by Sodaro 2022-04-17T16:08:26Z

LOVE the visuals and mood. (Maybe a little more contrast for character, enemies, and pickups, so they stand out more) It's SO hard though! I see screenshots of a car, but never made it that far :(

Battery Low by Milestone Games 2022-04-13T21:28:29Z

ENERGY! SCIENCE!

I know you have tons of feedback and praise already, but I'll add on.

1) So much polish and juiciness from just a short jam. 2) Ending scene was fantastic, made it a really rewarding experience, but bleak (Part of the theme)

InevitaBallistics by JHax 2022-04-11T16:44:13Z

Im impressed with some of the extra features, like level select and saving personal best times. That adds a nice level of polish to the project.

The Final Word: A Microsoft Word Platform Game by leekanarchism 2022-04-16T18:39:33Z

I hate rage platformers, but you put such a cute spin on the idea that I enjoyed myself (I tried racing clippy a few times, but there was no way I am good enough to finish)

Thanks for the game!

Balloon Drift by matt1will 2022-04-05T19:15:31Z

The artwork is perfectly charming and matches the gameplay perfectly.

Whenever a bird popped my balloon, I would spam jump until I kill it and then plunge into the ocean like a vengeful Icarus. A+, would kill birds again.

Summer D[el]ays by krummja 2022-04-15T09:51:46Z

So from what I understand, I collect items in all the levels that may be used later on. So, by skipping objects I will be blocked later.

Mechanically, I don't mind it, but I was making mistakes in a level that I didn't understand would punish me later. So, if that's the case, and ability to RETURN to previous levels would send this game to another level! That way you could allow the player to make those mistakes, but remedy then (although lose some time). See "Sifu" for similar mechanic. They allow the player to make mistakes which permanently hurt the run, but remedy them by redoing previous areas.

My suggestions are just for reflection, doing all of this in a weekend is crazy! You did a great job! Nicely done.

Music was so summer. Absolutely loved that!

Bomb Over by Lucy Lu 2022-04-13T16:48:12Z

At the very beginning I said to myself, "It'd be so evil if they swapped the color written with the text color..." And then boom! It happened, lol! Great idea, amazingly well executed, and a real high-score table? Amazing job!

Bitboy by Proxy-Games 2022-04-13T12:31:11Z

Loved it! Refresh as a mechanic is genius and very creative. If the dialogues could be quick-clicked instead of every letter typed out, it'd be great. (Since there is a lot of dialogue)

I was Reincarnated as a Middle Aged Dad Protecting his Son's Sand Castle by mcmuniz 2022-04-12T16:38:17Z

I love this take on the theme. Tide, waves, sand castles. It's instantly recognizable with its connection to inevitable!

Let's Do Alien Taxes! by BurnsDesigns 2022-04-13T14:45:19Z

@cryptomnesic I fixed an issue with validation in the "Home Planet" field, as that was tripping a lot of people up. The field was case-sensitive and also some write "Planet Name" others wrote "Name" without the word Planet. Now its no longer case-sensitive, and with/without Planet will work. Should make it easier for everyone

@all Thanks so much for all the support/feedback!

Let's Do Alien Taxes! by BurnsDesigns 2022-04-16T18:31:20Z

@sirred Thanks for the feedback. I totally agree. The size of the fonts are far too small, even with maximized screensize.

I was initially really against sorting, and moving documents to the top, as I believed the gameplay was about space management for the papers and shuffling them around. But seeing peoples reaction, the fun was more in the solving the puzzle of the documents and the silliness of it all. So, if I take this further to a small demo game, I think I'd include moving documents stack order.

I ran out of time for the Incorrect-Entry-Feedback. I'd love to have had some of the wrong fields flash red, so you knew exactly what you needed to correct.

Let's Do Alien Taxes! by BurnsDesigns 2022-04-20T08:36:58Z

@occultone Wow, that is a huge compliment. Strange Scaffold is a big inspiration to me, so that is really kind.

@pcmaster Glad you enjoyed it! I think for a next version, I'll try some variety in text sizes and fonts. I like people hunting for the correct information, but I don't want them squinting and leaning into their screens :)

Corgi, Protecc! by JuulH 2022-04-05T19:26:48Z

Wow, that was fun. After my first playthrough, I saw the mini-map and it changed the whole game for me. I managed to get to Wave 7, which I thought was pretty good!

"I don't even own a dog!"

The Splat! Zone by PostPostScript 2022-04-12T20:18:23Z

I used to play an old Dreamcast game called Chu Chu Rocket. This game carries the same essence. Thank you for the memories!!!

Colorful Love by Mikomoares 2022-04-17T16:24:14Z

Wow! I played that for a long time! I was really having some fun with those puzzles. They were each pretty distinct from one another giving great variety!

The color popping was not super clear from the beginning, as I solved the first number of puzzles without realizing that mechanic (Or wasn't introduced until later puzzles). So, maybe more conveyance as to how that is working. With some experimentation I sorted it out, so doesn't need a whole lot.

Omni Empire by arqitech 2022-04-14T12:05:46Z

Lots of complexity and systems for a game jam! Thats impressive to build all that in a short time. The tutorial was a good idea, because I would have been lost without it. Even with it still took me a few deaths to grasp the gameplay loop.

Nicely done!

Destination Station by JM-Janzen 2022-04-11T15:47:16Z

Even having a tutorial within the timelimit of the jam is very impressive. Nicely done!

Not Enough Time by LauraQwerty 2022-04-13T21:14:30Z

I agree with some others. Feedback for how each interaction helps moral/defenses or if I have limited interacts (or is it time based?) But for a gamejam, this was excellent! That many frames in a walk cycle is impressive for the limited amount of time!

LD52 — Harvest

Glorious Pancakes by Local Minimum 2023-01-13T14:51:35Z

It's essential Shadow of the Colossus. I cannot see any difference. Both masterpieces!

But honestly, I really enjoyed the variety of challenges in each area. I think taking on multiple enemy types like that in a jam is awesome work.

The Bountiful by 100th_Coin 2023-01-13T14:03:25Z

Title Music! Boom Boom Boom!

Harvest Superhuman by V0odo0 2023-01-12T12:01:35Z

That art style is so cool. It really feels scoped for a gamejam, but at the same time polished and beautiful in its minimalism

Village of Plenty by p0l4r 2023-01-12T22:32:02Z

Wow, I quickly got myself in a tight spot from not quite understanding the strategy. But I was able to recover and build a nice farm year to year.

It felt like a card based factorio!

LD52 Moonlight by Fis 2023-01-13T15:09:14Z

Okay, after seeing 1m+ in the comments I dont feel so good about my score.

I found a good rhythm of planting and eating the flowers that could keep me going for a long time.

Corpse Circle by Jonathan Lorenz 2023-01-21T19:48:48Z

Hmm it seems from the comments I missed a number of mechanics, like the scarecrows and beehives. Just thought they were cosmetic additions to the fields.

Adding extra conveyance is difficult in such a short time for a jam, but maybe adding details in the game's page could help people.

Bill, The ATMan by J0ye 2023-01-13T14:57:04Z

Giving exact change was a silly challenge and it had me scrambling to grow correct bills. Such a clever idea of the man behind the ATM machine. So creative!

HarvesTile by Wieczny 2023-01-12T21:22:04Z

This is the most ambitious game I've played thus far! Wow did you fit a lot into the jam! Usually I am turned off by so many rules and text for a game, but I stuck it out and read up on my goals and what I was trying to do.

There was a bit of discovery on trying to balance +/- cards on the board, but on my 2nd run I got the hang of it!

Finished the game and was really having a lot of fun. Well done!

Mafia's Drive-Thru by Pusheeneiro 2023-01-13T15:24:18Z

I wish I read about rotation and overlapping before starting. Once you get that down it starts to click! What an innovative game over a weekend! Awesome job!

District 17 by Paulsams 2023-01-12T11:55:17Z

Man! That was an ambitious game jam! All that art and mobility and extra polish within the timeframe is crazy! Nicely done

Chloroblast by Phibian 2023-01-13T15:17:00Z

Wow, lots of polish in this game! Even a cool parallaxing menu!

I really got into the vibe of building and selling and trying new plants. Excellent work. I just adore tower defense games.

Money harvest by ffrusik 2023-01-12T21:56:19Z

It's very chaotic in those initial 15 seconds and levels out. I think being able to reverse that feeling would be a great change for players. Rising tension as days go on.

It was quite fun! And I made it!

Oyster Odyssey by osh.studio 2023-01-12T21:44:52Z

So, I got really involved in this game and I came away with a lot of questions.

I seemed to kind of get "locked" in that I needed a lot of money to keep upgrading, but carrying enough money to the next upgrade caused me to go REALLY slow. After a few deaths I changed my strategy to not pick anything on the way down, but gather on the way up. So, I am at my slowest near the surface.

While it's a cute strategy that works, it's not intuitive and goes against the players nature of trying to collect and keep enough gas to the top.

I also found the depths were not more lucrative than the shallows. I expected to see larger and larger clams as I improve my oxygen and speed and can come away with more money.

Also I was confused by Agility. Is that truly my ability to redirect and change direction? Or is it perhaps related to carry weight? I was getting weighed down so quickly with the clams I was carrying, I expected that upgrade to improve my "Purse" or the amount I can carry without getting slowed.

Additionally, there were a few instances where I was ~50% gas, but very deep and slow. I knew I couldn't reach the top. The optimal strategy is to check my phone and wait to drown. Perhaps there is a mechanic in order to preserve the run by ditching some of my clams. Unsure how I'd exactly implement it, but I am imagining players tossing clams desperately trying to reach the surface, but of course they are ditching their money. So, that greed vs survival tension would be at it's highest.

Boxed In by BurnsDesigns 2023-01-09T20:15:25Z

@iluvatar Thanks for playing! Yes, the dash is a great idea. It needs some more mobility in the game and maybe a little variety of challenge, but ran out of time.

As for the theme, I gave up on the theme after a bit. So, I removed that category from the judging. This is more of just a game I made during the weekend, lol.

Harvest Net by YoungArtifact 2023-01-13T10:35:57Z

Music and art style gave a great relaxing mood. It was a meditative game, you lose track of time and just harvest!

Harvest Soon by Rob6566 2023-01-12T22:19:22Z

Wow, I played both the Compo and Jam versions. Lot of improvements and a great direction for the game. High score! I hope you do more for the Jam version, it's already improved so much!

The Polar Vet and the Non-Swimming Penguin by bezbiletnym 2023-01-12T22:04:23Z

Am I harvesting these penguins?! Truly evil!

I finished the full game. I was having good fun with them.

Perhaps a bit of pitch modulation on the move sfx would keep it from becoming too redundant too quickly.

Vermin Attack by stevepixelface 2023-01-11T11:57:35Z

Small game, but well suited for a game jam. The art style is very consistent and looks well together. Also gave clear indication of where moles were coming with very simple sprites. Very effective!

Well done!
